you've probably mentioned this previously but what is your fave disney movie and your least favorite? you seem so knowledgeable on them (or at least the ones related to twst) so i'm curious
have a great day!
Gonna take this as an opportunity to procrastinate on writing (yes, I actually have been writing, believe it or not), and rate the movies that inspired TWST. I will not be including the events or any other Disney movie, but I can add that later if y'all wanna hear me yap more.
ELEVENTH: Cinderella.
You know what? I'm about to say it. Cinderella is not a good movie. It feels like it's 50% plot with Cinderella and her story, and then the other 50% is Tom and Jerry kinda tomfoolery with the mice (Jaq and Gus Gus) and Lucifer the cat. I'm not kidding. Watch it again and you'll realize how much precious time was spent on them. Why? I couldn't answer that. It seems like a waste to me when the time could've been spent on other more creative and important scenes.
TENTH: Alice In Wonderland
Like Cinderella, Alice In Wonderland has a similar flaw where time is spent on a scene where Alice or any of the other main characters are not involved at all. However, I don't believe it's as much as Cinderella. I just don't think this movie is very good, I mean, it does a good job at feeling like nonsense but each scene feels like it could be it's own short and it literally would not make a difference.
NINTH: Sleeping Beauty
I'm just not the biggest fan of this movie. I mean, I can give them credit where credit is due. The prince here, Prince Philip, is one of the best of the early princes. He's actually pretty funny. Maleficent carries the film hard, to no one's surprise. Again, I see the same pattern of unnecessary scene, where the kings are drinking wine, singing, then arguing, then making up.
EIGHTH: Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, higher than Sleeping Beauty? You must think me insane. I swear, I have a valid reason. I just really appreciate the historical aspect of it. That's my main reason. I like history. Call me a nerd, I don't care.
SEVENTH: 101 Dalmatians
I like dogs. A lot. Beyond just that, this was one of those films I watched a lot as a kid, and as I got older, I came to appreciate it more and more. The music for it is genuinely solid, even if the plot may not be entirely interesting throughout the entire thing. Plus, they gave one of the most iconic villains of all time (I LOVE the Cruella movie, but that's not the point). One of my favorite things about this movie is the animation. It's old, it's hand drawn, you can see the lines!! I just love that, and I can't explain why, I just do.
SIXTH: Beauty and The Beast
Some might be shocked that this movie is this low. Maybe it should've been higher. Don't get me wrong, I like this film, but I just like the others more. Belle actually isn't my favorite character, but I will say, she's a good character, just not something I'm drawn to. Gaston is an entertaining villain with one of the better villain songs. I will add this, the best addition to this film from the live action was the song "Evermore." We love to hear some male yearning.
FIFTH: Aladdin
The humor carries this film hard. Genie and the duo Jafar and Iago? My favorites. They're great. They are what make the movie special to me, because you don't usually see that type of humor often in Disney movies. It likely has to do with the fact that Genie and Iago are voiced by comedians. The music is great too, but the humor is my favorite part of this film.
FOURTH: The Little Mermaid
Historically speaking, this film is known as the one to start off the "Disney Renaissance" which is just a term used to describe the films that came and did really well after they struggled to create a good film for a while. Ariel is a decent character, but y'all know who I'm here for. URSULA. Did you know, supposedly, they struggled with her design for the longest time until they finally found her look which is based off the drag queen Divine? Look it up. Ugh, she's so iconic.
🥉 THIRD: The Princess and The Frog
Speaking of banger music. This film probably has the best songs, or at least, it's definitely up there in competition. It's also somewhat a bit familiar to me, because I spent many years in one of the neighboring states. Here's where the explanations are gonna get long as we get closer and closer to first place.
Compelling princess? Definitely. Tiana is one of the best princesses, and I will die on this hill. It's not like she was born royalty, she's humble and hardworking, and that's what makes her so unique. If you really think about it, there's not a lot of other Disney characters like her and I appreciate her for that.
Charming prince? Check. I think Naveen is one of the best princes to date. He's definitely in my top three. The design? The ego? The accent? Oh, he's definitely got it. The way he goes from insatiable flirt to down bad for one girl to the point of changing his entire lifestyle is SO GOOD.
Intimidating villain? Oh, for sure. I think people forget about Dr. Facilier a lot. And that's a shame, because he's probably like one of the last great Disney villains we've got. He was a real menace, securing deals like that and then controlling literal shadow creatures? That's terrifying?? I love it.
The cast overall does a really good job, with some household names among them (voicing Eudora, Dr. Facilier, Mama Odie) and Disney legends (voicing Big Daddy La Bouff, Ray (I met his voice actor!!)). I think my only issue with the film is that they stay frogs for longer than they're humans. That's the only real problem I can currently think of. Other than that? Great film.
🥈 SECOND: The Lion King
Make it Hamlet but lions. I'm gonna go back for a second, and remind y'all of my earlier complaints: unnecessary scenes. This movie feels like it has none of that, and that's is GREAT. Immediately it get points from me for that. Aside from that, if you go and watch this movie again right now, it still holds up amazing. It may not be no princess and prince movie, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Not at all.
Catchy soundtrack? Yes! Each song is a banger. Each. One. Even when there's no singing. What I love about it are the influences from African cultures, like the lyrics in Zulu as soon as the movie opens with "Circle of Life" among other details like the instrumentals and background singers. Not to mention, this soundtrack is written by LEGENDS. Hans Zimmer (I listen to his soundtracks all the time for writing) and Elton John. Yeah, that Elton John. My favorite villain song is from this movie. Y'all know the one. Be Prepared. FUN FACT: The voice actor for Scar actually struggled with the later part of Be Prepared, so much so that his voice gave out and someone else had to complete the song. That someone else was the same person who voices Ray from The Princess and The Frog and Ed from the Lion King (I have the signed Scar merch :)). Don't believe me? Listen to the song, and if you listen carefully, you can hear the difference with and after the line "so prepare for the coup of the century."
You can probably guess, that my favorite thing about this movie is Scar. He's such a wretched villain, literally so cunning and evil and manipulative. If you really think about it, and I mean really think about it, he technically won. I mean, for a while, he did win while Simba was gone. The only reason he lost later was because he didn't think Simba was alive. He got what he wanted for a while. What other villain can you say that for?
This movie probably has the smoothest plot out of all the ones on this list. I love revisiting this movie whenever I'm doing research for TWST. I actually did it a lot of times recently for development of lore in the Empyrean AU, and each time I check it out again, I always learn something new about this movie. Every single time.
🥇 FIRST: Hercules
Humor. Music. Characters. Plot. Action. Romance. What doesn't this movie have? Y'all can't seriously tell me you didn't expect this, especially since I've stated multiple times that it's my favorite Disney film and most of y'all know I very much enjoy Idia. Ever wonder why I love Idia's character? It's because of this movie.
I literally used to watch this movie all the time as a kid. Can you guess who was my favorite? I'll give you a hint. It wasn't Pegasus, or Phil, or Zeus, or Hercules, or Megara (although she's super iconic) ... It was Hades. Hades has always been my favorite, y'all do not even understand. Let me try to break it down, why I love not only this character but this entire movie.
The vibe is giving Caesars Palace in Vegas, and I mean that in the best way possible. Which is like so weird and specific, I know, but I think it's because it has the inspirations from Greece, right? But also, the film feels modern too with the whole fame, marketing/merchandise, and fangirls in the movie. So the vibe in itself is very unique and odd to see.
I'm gonna save the best for last, which is why I won't dwell on Hades too much yet. Yet. I'll start with how the movie starts: music. Notice how when I was talking about The Princess and The Frog, I didn't explicitly state it had the best music of all the films. Well, it was because of this one. While I will admit, none of the songs in The Princess and The Frog miss, Hercules has one less than decent song (One Last Hope, sorry Danny DeVito). The others though? All top tier songs. The Gospel Truth by the Muses? BANGER. The I want song by Hercules with Go The Distance? BANGER. Zero to Hero by the Muses? BANGER. I Won't Say by Megara? BANGER. A Star Is Born by the Muses again? BANGER. It's just banger after banger, and the fact that most of them is gospel is just amazing. It's probably the most creative take they could've gone with when composing the songs. I cannot express how much I love the Muses, their voice actors are just so talented. They ate.
Hades. My favorite Disney villain of all the time. Lord, where do I even start? I could probably write a whole essay on this character. First, I think I'll go with his actions. He's a bastard, but god is he a fun one. The way he talks, reactions, and the scenarios play out? It's so amusing, it always made me want to see the whole movie revolve around him even if he was the villain. Hot take? I think he's the strongest Disney villain. I know everyone likes to think Maleficent is the strongest, and yeah, she's strong, but Hades is a GOD. With a capital G. He released and commanded titans that took out MULTIPLE GODS. Yeah, he's evil, but technically, we can say he's like Scar in the sense that he won for like a single minute tops. But a win is a win.
The humor won me over with him, like why is he actually kinda hilarious. And that voice? That is such an unconventional voice to go with, but oddly enough, it works so well? Usually Hades in different media is portrayed as a brooding silent intimidating type of character, but this Hades is nothing like that. He's a fast talker, like a con/business man, and gives some of the most iconic lines. I can recognize that voice anywhere. Actually, I was doing research for TWST (specifically Ignihyde) once, and out of curiosity, I ended up watching part of the movie in Japanese. For research, you know. Y'all, when I tell you that Hades in the Japanese dub sounds EXACTLY like the original English version–– I lost my mind that day.

I’ve discovered my favorite genre of Bagginshield art is where Thorin is a lovesick idiot who is Losing It and Bilbo is unbothered or oblivious to Thorin’s suffering LMAO
#thorin oakenshield#bilbo baggins#bagginshield#if anyone has more please send it to me I have like four rn#I know I made a post a while back talking about how I wish there were more posts that focused on each of their lives outside of each other#and I still stand by that but I also can’t deny the fun in a Important Dwarf like Thorin turning into an idiot around Bilbo#tbh this works even platonically. this guy has friends bc he’s lucky not bc he’s actually friendly#so I can imagine becoming friends with Bilbo is like ‘fuck now I have to be nice bc he WILL actually leave. uh. oh god’#love men who are grouchy and offputting <3#and Bilbo is oblivious not as a flaw but bc he’s just not wired that way and he’s just accepting that Thorin is weird#bc he has no basis of which to assume he isn’t just Like That sometimes same way the dwarves don’t know shit abt hobbits#and it’s not as like. Bilbo being extremely innocent either he’s just not thinking about it LMAO#and Bilbo Also doesn’t have a ton of friends (different reasons but he IS also grouchy and petty) and he’s just ‘?? ok’#they’re both fucking stupid and everyone around them is dying and in anguish#I particularly enjoy when a character who is emotionally constipated and stoic and whatever just starts losing it#not even necessarily in a sappy or angsty way just. those emotions gotta come out eventually#so for a guy like Thorin who takes himself seriously and is very closed off emotionally it’s fun to just imagine that facade cracking#meanwhile Bilbo is just like ‘you ok??’#Bilbo himself has some emotional issues so it’s double the entertainment

Have I seen more than ten episodes of Kamen Rider Geats? No,
Is that enough to get a strong grip of its themes and the meaning behind the story it tells? Not Even Close.
That said there is something that feels incredibly and overwhelmingly thematically relevant about the way the opening theme sounds. You’re telling me this story about people participating in hazardous and dangerous events and challenges (all presented aesthetically as a game show) has a theme song that is very heavily stylistically similar to k-pop/J-pop idol music coincidentally? Okay- sure, I’ll buy it.

Lenore Dove is so misunderstood and mischaracterized by the fandom it makes me sad to see.
She is not this manic, dream pixie girl. Her character very much shaped, flawed and real. Haymitch is able to oversee and ignore her “flaws” because he’s a 16 year old teenage boy who is madly in love with her, but it is not hard for us readers, to look between those lines and see how fleshed her character really is.
She is seen to act before thinking, making rash decisions which aren’t the best for her wellbeing. She is way too emotional, feels too many feelings and has too many thoughts and she doesn’t know how to articulate them into words because she’s an introvert and she fears her words being lost in translation.
She only reveals her unfiltered, (sometimes) dark thoughts to her loved ones, and often enough she does it by using metaphors so she can still backtrack incase she gets misunderstood because she still feels like her thoughts could be a burden to the people around her.
She is not a “Lucy Gray Rip-Off”.
Lucy Gray was a born performer. She loved to be on stage, she loved performing for her people and knew how to get the crowd on her side, how to keep them entertained.
Lenore Dove doesn’t sing in front of people. It makes her uncomfortable. She’s not a “Born Performer” nor does she know how to control a crowd, at least not in the way Lucy Gray did.
She’s a rebel. She’ll only use her voice when she realizes she absolutely HAS to. She’ll use it when she’s mad, and sad, and in despair.
She’ll go against the rules at any given time, especially when it comes to protecting her loved ones. She doesn’t realize nor care about any consequences at the time, she only acts because she’s in pain and wants to avenge her people.
She’s a sixteen year old girl who dreamt big in a world where dreaming was a luxury and not something many people can afford.
In spite of her dark, burdened thoughts, she had still kept her innocence and was able to dream of a world without the reaping, she had hopes that one day that dream could become a reality, no matter how crazy it sounded to others.
She also had dreams of growing up, having a loving family and living peacefully with her loved ones and her boy who she loved more than anyone and she was willing to die for him.

Residuals Pt 3
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series
Synopsis: You and Robby spent seven long years together until the day it ended. You’ve done your best to create space; to become invisible. You can’t miss what you don’t see. Unfortunately, the universe (Gloria and the Board of Directors) seemed to have missed the memo.
Pairing: Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch x Reader
Genre: Established previous relationship, slight age gap (by about 15 years give or take), a little bit of tension mixed in with a little bit of hate yearning, cause she’s a saucy angsty fic ok
A/N: Screaming at the top of my lungs because you have all been so incredibly lovely and sweet. I appreciate every single one of your comments, reblogs, and your excitement over this spur-of-the-moment series idea. Honestly, I can gush forever. Thank you! This chapter is centered around a little extra backstory on their relationship (briefly). I noticed it's around ep. 4 when everything starts popping off in the show (and I have scenes already pre-written cause I’m excited!) so I hope the story stays entertaining and true to showing slow insights into characters, their flaws, and being human. As always, I hope you all enjoy this next chapter. Much Love. Jenn
Thank you to the bestie @viridian-dagger for humoring me and checking all of my work. Thank you for helping keep me sane.

Previous I Next
Tumblr media
You remembered with agonizing clarity the last day you’d seen Robby. You could recall down to the very marrow of the hour how you’d watched him grab his backpack and head out the door.
If you weren't careful, your subconscious loved to dredge that particular memory up in frequent rotation.
If you weren’t careful, always on mental high alert, the memories came violently to the forefront demanding that you remember what it felt like to walk the halls of your home in nothing but his shirts. It had you up late in the middle of the night writing a list of all the achingly obvious differences between the empty bed you now slept in and the one you’d shared with him. How his large frame curled against your back or how his nose pressed into the crook of your neck before he woke you, trailing kisses down your collarbone.
Sometimes, Robby held you so tight you’d jokingly ask if he was trying to morph together like The Thing.
You’d gotten used to the quiet in your home. The lack of security knowing another person was there. You’d learned to portion down your meals, so you didn’t make some on accident for two, or three when Jake was home for the week. You did laundry less and didn’t have to fold as much. There was no one to help you build furniture or tear it down. The trash was handled by you and only you. Dishes sat questionably for longer in the sink than they should’ve. There were no hands on your hips to keep you steady as you demanded to be an independent woman and use the step ladder to change broken fixtures and lightbulbs. No car rides with blues gently playing through the speakers with his hand on your thigh.
No. You were reminded every minute of every day since you’d left of what you lost. What you chose to leave behind.
The day you left you’d waited in the hall. In the past, before the pandemic, before the world went to shit and stopped making sense, Robby waited for you to send him off. You’d bring him his backpack full of protein bars, a homemade sub sandwich (if he ever got to it), and instant coffee packets when he didn’t. The moment you were close enough for him to grab - to touch - Robby would reach for you.
Before Robby, you didn’t know what it felt like to be worshipped; to be craved and wanted so badly that they couldn’t wait for the moment they could touch you. The safety of trusting someone because they loved you without pretense allows you to be comfortable enough to be good, bad, weird, and everything in between.
“You’re my favorite person.” He’d told you this randomly, while you’d both been curled up on the couch. Your cheek pressed against his chest. You heard the slight change in rhythm before he spoke. It was an answer to a question you’d asked weeks ago. One he refused to answer because “What are we in junior high?”
You didn’t believe in fairytales or the idea of perfect relationships. You believed in what someone’s actions said about them when they tried to cover them up with words. You didn’t know what it was like to have someone choose you, all of you, until Robby.
Whenever he had the chance, Robby was always touching you - light traces of fingers that drew aimless doodles in your skin while he read. His hand glided across your back as he passed you in the kitchen or the hallways at work. Once Robby learned how much you loved having his hands on you, he found ways to use them all the time - in ways that made you feel secure and others that were far from innocent.
But out of everything, Robby always made sure you were taken care of and, most of all, loved.
Usually, when Robby departed from the house, he used his large frame to crowd into your space. Possessive hands snaked around your waist to pull you flush against him. Every time, like clockwork, you eagerly respond to his touch. Your neck already falling back just enough for his mouth to slate over yours.
Those memories of better days, days where you didn’t have to question if he still loved you, are what made the last day so hard. You stood there, silently hoping that he would turn around. That Robby would just stop putting in his air pods, looking everywhere but at you, and finally acknowledge you. You didn’t want your last fight to be what you remembered - the words you’d hurled at one another with tired vehemence the final thing you heard.
You just wanted him to love you like he used to. But the problem was, you weren’t sure if you could love him how you used to anymore either.
“I think you should take Kiara up on her offer, Michael. You need to speak with someone even if it isn’t her.”
“Jesus,” he huffed. A hand scrubbed at his face before latching behind his head. His eyes screwed tight as if he could simply blink the conversation away. “Here we fucking go again.”
“Yes, here we go again. We wouldn't have to keep doing this merry-go-round around the issue if you would just admit - “
“Admit what?” His voice rose in challenge, and it took every ounce of you not to return it. “You seem to want me to say I’m broken so you don’t have to be the only one.”
“That’s bullshit,” you scoffed, pushing your dinner plate further down the table.
You weren’t hungry anymore.
“It’s not bullshit! I’m not the only one in this room who won’t be honest with themselves.”
“That’s real rich coming from you, Michael. If you think that’s true, look me in my eyes and admit you don’t feel some type of way since he passed. And I never once fucking said that you were broken - “
“That’s the point! You don’t have to. I can see it in the way you look at me. The way you talk to me. It’s like no matter what the fuck I say you don’t believe me. You just want me to be depressed like - “
“Like what, Michael.”
The room went glacial cold. Your eyes turned to slits as you waited for him to finish his sentence. A piece of you prayed he didn’t because you didn’t know how much more you could take before you finally broke.
“Like you,” he sighed, voice defeated as if he hated saying it as much as you hated hearing it. “You haven’t been the same since -”
“Shut up.”
“- it happened and I’m sorry. I - I wish I’d been there - “
“I said shut up! Jesus, just stop talking!”
The venom in your voice was toxic. It had your arm lashing out and shoving the plate of food off the table. The sound of tableware clattering and glass breaking dimmed the flash of anger enough to be embarrassed at your outburst. You hadn’t meant to do it. Just like you hadn’t meant to do a lot of things since Adamson passed, since the pandemic, and…since you received the news.
It was written plainly in the silence held between you. The unspoken depression from two different spectrums left you both unable to help the other. Neither of you knew how to bridge the gap your stubbornness bred.
Doctors were historically the worst patients because of that very reason. Pride. You used to believe Robby and you didn’t share an ounce of it between you, but you’d been wrong. You forgot you were both human and flawed.
“I just want to help you, Michael. Please. Ever since Adamson passed and - and what happened - “
“He doesn’t have anything to do with what happened! What happened fucking happened because it’s nature. It’s - it just wasn’t our time. You’ve got to stop beating yourself up for something you have no control over. How many times have we told our patients this?” Robby looked up from his hands and you wished he hadn’t. His watery eyes were close to spilling; the tsunami of pain was all-consuming and when he whispered your name before he spoke again, you wanted to shatter. “You’re killing yourself from the inside out with this self-hatred.”
How many times have you been told that exact thing? It was an unfortunate natural process. It just ‘happened’. Every word is sterile and scientific which makes you feel less and less like a person. And what about the news that came after? Was that natural too?
Maybe you were the one who was broken.
“Adamson happened too, and you haven’t been the same since we lost him. You’re on edge more, Mike. You snap at work and home. You’re closed off. You’re so desperate to put it under the rug that we only focus on me? Bring up my faults so we can bury yours.”
A sneer pulled up his lips as he turned away from you. His eyes scan over the shelves and furniture in the room - looking everywhere but at you.
“You just want to help me? That’s what you keep feeding yourself but in reality, you just want me to be who I was before this. I don’t know if I can be that man again and when I tell you that, you act like a fucking child going around slamming doors.” Shame flushed up your face, turning your cheeks red with embarrassment. You’d done that and worse. You thought you could wait whatever this was out until it got better. But it wasn’t better. It was worse and you were so, so tired. “You want to focus on me but what about you?”
“You aren’t the only one hurting - that lost someone. You left me! You fucking left me to deal with it all on my own. Where the fuck were you when I needed you?”
“I’ve been right here with you!” Robby shouted back. “I’m right here with you, baby, but you don’t fucking see it. You won’t let me in.”
The tears you struggled to contain escaped in one shaky exhale. You carried around so much of your shame and guilt - tried repairing the cracks with quick fixes so Robby wouldn’t see because the last thing you wanted was pity. You didn’t want the confirmation that you were irreparably broken.
“But you’re not here. Are you? Not really.”
The earlier flash of rage was extinguished with each word. This job was a marvel and a curse. It took and took without forgiveness. Sometimes you’re fighting to save people who don’t want to be saved; who’ve never known the support and love they needed to believe they were more than their demons. Who wanted to succumb to a brief drop of loneliness in the ocean of a lifetime. Or you saw the ugliness that people did to one another and left you having an existential crisis if someone’s bad choice made their life unworthy of saving.
Robby dealt with all of these things daily. He shouldered them for every friend in the hospital. For every patient who needed the strength of his resolve and the care he delivered. He gave all that and more during the pandemic and now he’d given so much that there wasn’t much left to tend to himself.
Robby used to lean on you for just about everything. Sometimes, your talks were gradual - opening up little by little until everything was exposed. Other times, they came in bursts. A rush of words said too fast because if neither of you just ripped the band-aid off and said it, nothing would ever get fixed. Now all of that came to a screeching halt. You didn’t know what he was feeling anymore or thinking. He shut you out in so many ways. You tried to break through and failed.
You both stood at separate spectrums of grief and neither of you knew how to reach the other anymore.
“I can’t do this anymore.”
You hadn’t meant about your relationship. You wish you could’ve said that - informed him that the despair and betrayal of your own body left you in a place of purgatory. The pandemic stripping you bare and raw pressing salt into every wound. How was Robby supposed to love you if you didn’t know how to love yourself?
But it’s not how it sounded leaving your lips. It’s not how he took it as you watched his shoulders deflate. The emptiness that hollowed out his eyes in protection and left them empty as you felt.
“No one is forcing you to stay.”
You never did get to tell him you saw him - saw that he’d been there waiting for you to open up. He wasn’t who he was, but he’d still tried the best he could in whatever ways he could. In the end, you believed you deserved punishment.
Maybe that’s what losing Robby was - the universe's way of dishing it out for a wrong you never knew you committed.
It felt suffocating; your chest caved to create a black hole of grief that felt never-ending. You watched as the pandemic tore him down piece by piece - shredding him to ribbons. So many lives were ravaged by the virus with no way to combat it. You remembered the overwhelming, crushing feeling of seeing dozens of patients lining hallways because there were no more beds. Every doctor, nurse, RTs, and CNAs struggled to care for every patient and be with those in their final moments because the families couldn’t. It was chaos. It was frightening. It felt like it would go on forever. The last thing anyone expected was for Adamson to get sick. For the virus to infiltrate his body and claim his life.
Robby had run outside, tearing off his hazmat suit. Unable to breathe around the soul-crushing grief that constricted the air from his lungs. He’d crumbled like a house of cards as you held him in your arms, but he wasn’t allowed to grieve. He was a doctor, you were still a fucking doctor, and neither of you were allowed to grieve. You needed to compartmentalize; sew up the fraying edges of your grief and go back inside and be the doctors everyone needed.
It was agony watching what came after. The way he struggled day and night to get any amount of rest while wrestling with his demons. The guilt kept him up at night and woke him screaming covered in a cold sweat. Eventually, he stopped sleeping in bed with you all together. Slowly, you saw him less at home and only at work. You watched while the anxiety ate him alive and transformed him into someone you could barely recognize, and you felt helpless against it. At any moment, the pain in your chest would swallow you whole.
And just when you thought, given a few months, you’d be able to find new joy in your life, it all came crashing down again.
So, you waited in that hallway. You waited for any sign that you should stay. You waited to see if you’d change your mind and begin to be honest with him. You waited for him to at least turnaround and look at you - for the recognition of the life you’d had months before to flash in those beautiful brown eyes. You waited in the hallway even after he’d left - waited for your tears to dry before you went upstairs to pack up your old life and find a new one.
You’d expected a lot of possibilities when Gloria brought you back down to the Pitt. You considered all the variables and the endless amount of what-ifs. It felt inevitable for you to end up in this very situation; him being the attending, in charge of the Pitt, and overseeing a case. The only thing you hadn’t accounted for was how the heat of his body pressed against your back made you forget how to breathe. Your mouth suddenly dry and your heart pounded violently against the ache in your chest.
Was Robby even aware of what he was doing? You could practically feel him take a breath he was so fucking close. Fuck, you wanted to scream and you almost did when you felt his gloved hand move across your lower back as he stepped around you. The old desire to touch you every chance he could was a surprise to you both when the reflex made its appearance. It must have been a mistake - a subconscious tick because old habits can die hard. It was the only thing that made sense. You fought the urge to mouth a, ‘What the fuck?’ at him. Did he even realize what he’d done? If he did, he was damn good at hiding it.
You needed to get your shit together. You brought him in here for your patient.
“Allan,” you began to introduce him and found you had to clear the warble from your voice. “Allan, this is Dr. Robby. He’s the attending doctor here in the emergency department. Robby, this is Allan and his mother, Rebecca.”
“Pleasure to meet you both. Now, Allan, why don’t you tell me what brings you in today?”
Tumblr media
Once Robby agrees to your use of wire cutters to remove the key rings, conferring on medications during and after a take-home prescription, you immediately go to work. It took a few extra minutes of explaining to Allan (and his very traumatized mother) that you would be as gentle as possible, but the longer the key rings stayed on to cut off circulation, the higher the chance of necrosis would occur. You also promised him lidocaine to numb the area. Lots and lots of lidocaine.
You’d just signed off on discharge paperwork and spoke with him one last time about maybe just buying what he wanted to try next time. It was not only the safer option but probably more fun and less mortifying than having his mom bring him here.
You stepped out of the room and made your way up to Dana’s desk. While you’d been in the room doing minor surgery to metal keys, you’d heard a couple of new traumas that arrived through the ambulance bay. The one that unfortunately had stuck with you was the nineteen-year-old kid who’d been found unresponsive. Nineteen. Two years older than Jake.
For years you tried to make sense of how it was possible to become so attached to a son that wasn’t even yours. You didn’t give birth to Jake and missed the beginning stages of his life. You met him at his ninth birthday party and thought he would automatically hate you. Instead, he asked you questions about superheroes and if you had a favorite wrestler.
The relationship between Robby and Jake’s mom had been hard to navigate. Harder when you came into the picture because all mothers are understandably weary of unknown variables and people around their children. You did your best not to step on any toes and bided your time until Jake’s mom trusted you - felt comfortable enough - with your presence to allow Jake to stay over when he asked Robby.
You went on field trips as a chaperone when Jake asked, helped him build science fair projects, and tried your best to play basketball with Jake and Robby. You were better at three-pointers and playing horse than the original two - on - two. Jake chose to see you as another parent. His mother decided to let you be a part of his life and knowing Robby, loving Robby, brought you all together. You were forever grateful to both of them for it.
But seeing cases like this one - hearing about them - caused a cold sweat to spread across your body. Jake was a good kid - a smart kid but even smart kids could make mistakes.
You pulled your phone out of your back pocket and continued moving towards where Dana sat front and center in all the chaos. She was currently on the phone but her eyes tracked you as you made your way towards her.
Quickly, you unlocked your phone and went to your messages. You tapped on Jake’s name.
Mom v2.0 ~ Hey kiddo just checking in. Everything good?
You were about to lock the phone and put it away when his reply came back at lightning speed.
JakeTheRipper ~ Hey! Ya everything’s 👍🏽 I’m coming by the hospital later to get tickets from dad. Be cool to see you.  JakeTheRipper ~ if you can! JakeTheRipper ~ if you have the time!
You and Jake never lost contact with one another after you and Robby split. It’d been his golden rule and who were you to break rules, especially golden ones? But you hadn’t seen him since he was fifteen. The last weekend you spent housed up in the house - his teenage self picking up a dark cloud stole the warmth from the home.
He’d asked to see you a few times since then but you were always busy. Always unsure if you were overstepping. But you were here now and he said he was coming here anyways so -
“What’s got you smiling all goofy?”
Dana’s question sent you crash landing back into the present. You were standing directly in front of her seated position, phone in one hand and wire cutters in the other while a perfectly arched brow did most of her questioning.
“Ugh, it’s nothing,” you replied, tucking the phone back into your pocket.
God, you were acting suspicious. Be natural. Be cool.
“You got a boyfriend or something?”
“Oh, god no, no, no.”
You were throwing in way too many no’s.
You felt like you were under a microscope when Dana’s eyes narrowed in on you like this. A cold sweat was going to happen any minute now.
“There aren’t that many things that make women smile at their phones like that.”
“Memes make people smile at their phones because they’re witty and funny. A good deal on a pair of shoes, funny videos of animals, or cute babies…anyway,” you mumbled before handing the wire cutters over the top of her computer. “Ron the maintenance guy should be coming by to pick these back up. If I miss him, can you let him know I appreciate him letting me borrow these?”
“Did you tell him what they were gonna be used for?”
“Oh, god no, and please Dana don’t tell him I used it to cut key rings off a patient's penis.”
“You mean he didn’t know why you were asking for them?” She laughed. Dana fucking laughed and it eased the tension from your shoulders tenfold. “I think at least owe the man some kind of lunch, don’t you?”
“Ugh, well, I disinfected them. Twice? Does that count?”
Another bark of laughter came as she shook her head in disbelief. She was still smiling when she reached out and took the cutters from your hand.
“Aren’t you supposed to be up in triage?” Langdon asked, sliding in on your right.
“Did you come all the way over here from your spot in hell to ask me that, Langdon? Are we slacking off today or willfully choosing to be lazy?”
Langdon shot you a sarcastic smile before he reached over to grab a tablet and handed it over to the med student who’d been with him before. Her dirty blonde hair was slicked back into a tight ponytail and her glasses gave her an almost childlike demeanor that was only enhanced by the excited way she bounced on her heels. Her hand shot across the counter in way of introduction.
“Melissa King - everyone calls me Mel.”
She was so eager - sweet - that you almost warned her to be cautious in the Pitt. It tends to eat the good ones alive.
“Dr. Fullerton,” you replied, taking her hand briefly. “I remember you from earlier. Hopefully, Langdon is taking care of you and isn’t showing you what not to do during a residency?”
“Ha, that’s very funny, Fullerton. How long has it been since you’ve been down here? You’ve probably gone soft with all the babying they do upstairs.”
“Out of the two of us, Langdon who is still in their last year of residency and who is a board-certified doctor?”
“You know what I smell?”
“I don’t smell anything,” Mel interjected, thin lines of confusion creasing around her eyes.
“No, I don’t mean - it’s metaphorical, Dr. King.”
“Okay, kids that's enough. Robby sees you two both standing here bickering, you'll both be in trouble.”
“Is that your way of telling us to go back to taking care of the board?” You asked.
“No, it’s my way of telling you both to get the hell away from my station. Now shoo both of you,” Dana retorted, using a stack of patient demographics to swat at Langdon and you.
“I’m going, I’m going,” you surrendered, backing away.
You were mid-turn when an enthusiastic wave from Dr. King was thrown your way.
“It was nice to meet you. Again,” she excitedly called after you.
She seemed too pure to have picked the Pitt. Everyone had their reasons for doing residencies here and, hell, you believed med students should be mandated to work at least one full rotation in an emergency department to truly learn. Mel, however, made you just want to protect her from the harsh realities of a place like this. It could be soul-crushing and there is no way to prepare yourself for when it happens.
“Likewise, Mel. If you ever want a break from ER Ken you’re more than welcome to come find me.”
“She’s good where she’s at, Fullerton.”
You didn’t bother giving a retort; you and Langdon could keep up the verbal back and forth the whole shift. You were only a couple feet away when you heard Dr. King state, “She seems nice.”
“Yeah. She’s alright. A little unhinged, but alright.”
Each word had been pulled like teeth from him; admitting you weren’t the absolute worst thing in the world, or at least inside this hospital, you knew made Langdon grumpy. Those few words left a sour taste in his mouth admitting anything nice about you, but it was enough for you because it meant one thing for you. There was hope that today wouldn’t be a total disaster after all.
Tumblr media
It was a busy morning but mornings were always busy in the Pitt. There shouldn’t have been a reason the hum of panic constantly buzzed behind his ears. It only grew louder the closer he got to the pediatrics wing of rooms. The bright colors blazed out into the hallway; all greens and blues. Animal motifs meant to instill comfort instead summoned what he’d struggled to keep buried.
Dana already caught him helplessly trapped outside the room. The memory of that day - the last day with Adamson - flashed vividly like every nightmare he’d had of that day since. Robby had been so engrossed in the recollection of monitors blaring and Princess shouting for him to do something, “Robby we’re losing him,” that he wasn’t able to shake the feeling of dread off.
He knew Dana noticed. The way her eyes craned over his shoulder to take in the peds room was the only confirmation he needed.
“You okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. When do I ever make you worry about me?”
“Are you kidding?” Dana chuckled. “All the time.”
They both knew he was lying. Robby never did confirm it when Dana asked, but he didn’t need to. He wasn’t sure if he’d ever be fine or even close to simply being okay. Even after four long years, Robby found he still sought Adamson’s advice. Moments in the Pitt he swore he could hear him directing the room; asking questions to challenge Robby because “a doctor never stops learning.”
He missed being able to confide in him. The expectant look on Adamson’s face when Robby asked about situations in his life where he was at a loss of what to do.
Robby needed to change the subject - and lead Dana down a safer path of questioning that he could handle. If he could keep himself away from that room he should be okay. He could handle you being here and everything else if he didn’t have to step foot in that room. He should’ve known there was no safe space where Dana wasn’t going to bring you up. Robby could see the hard exterior she tried to keep up to defend against your presence was beginning to crack.
Maybe so was his.
“The two of you looked cozy earlier.”
“Dana, you know I wouldn’t know what to do without you.”
“Uh-huh.”
Her voice oozed a playfulness that edged towards teasing.
“But there is no universe where you and I talk about this.”
“I was just making an astute observation.”
“I would appreciate it if you maybe observe somewhere else. We have eleven more hours of this shift to go and I’d rather not have to spend it talking about her.”
“Yeah, because you’re allergic to talking in general.”
“Well, that’s just not true. I’m allergic to people I don’t want to have a conversation with,” he pointed out.
She tried to shake the smile off her lips. Her palm lightly smacked at his shoulder which caused his smile to rise in response.
“You’re such a smart ass.”
“I try my very best,” he mumbled as he leaned down towards the computer.
He’d just grabbed his badge to swipe past the electronic monitor to unlock the computer, placing his arms to brace on either side of the keyboard when he felt her presence eclipse to his right. Dana was leaning over the counter divider. Her arms hanging over waiting for him to look back up at her.
“Something else I can help you with, Dana?”
“Just wondering if you’d be more talkative if you knew Fullerton was all smiles earlier. She had her phone out. Seemed to be textin’ someone.”
Robby could feel his eyes narrow in on her position. He shouldn’t care - he shouldn’t fucking care - because you were the one who left. What did he care if you were dating anybody? It’s been two years. The chances of you dating were astronomically high; shit, he’d attempted it a while after you left. Instead of taking care of himself because, “You look like shit,”, as Dana lovingly told him, he’d done what 95% of the population does: he ran from it.
Heather Collins was an R2 at the time. She was funny, intelligent, witty, beautiful, and he’d fucked it up in record time. All the things you’d thrown at him about being shit at taking his own advice, hiding from his problems, were true. When things took a turn he’d lock up. Collins noticed the cracks and mentioned them enough he countered with argument after argument. The worst part was he was harboring a love for someone else that was gone. You can’t love someone else, give them the love they deserve, when you’re buried ten feet deep for someone else. She deserved better than to be a rebound - better than what Robby could’ve given her because no matter how amazing she was he still thought of you. Heather deserved more than to be a body to bury his sorrows in. He tried dating again a year later but that had also gone up in spectacular flames. Robby couldn’t keep the ghost of you from haunting him.
He tried to act like he didn’t care - that Dana’s words weren’t threatening his last proper brain cell for the day. By the look on Dana’s face, he did a shit job of hiding it. So what if you were with someone? He shouldn’t even care.
“Did she say who she was talking to?”
Why the fuck did he ask that? Dana didn’t necessarily answer him as much as she chose instead to grin. A silent, ‘Gotcha’ flashing that he absolutely hated. He’d walked right into it.
“Surprise, surprise. I thought she’d be one of your allergies.”
A huff of laughter rushed past his lips that he tried to cover up with a cough.
“You’ve got a mean streak in you.”
Dana patted his arm before she retracted back inside her bubble. The phone went off in record time to pull her safely away from having to hear him complain. She gave him one last thumbs up before her back faced him, completely ending the conversation and forcing him back to the open file on the screen.
He enjoyed the quiet for all of a millisecond before he heard -
“Hey, fruitcake.”
God, take him now. Robby chose to ignore her. Ignore her like every other time -
“Hey, I’m talking to you, fruitcake.”
“Myrna,” he bit out. “I told you a hundred times my name is Dr. Robby.”
He expected her to argue about nicknames and their usage. It’s usually what happens when he advises her that maybe she’d get better treatment if she’d use real names. That isn’t what he got.
“Do you wanna see my vagina?”
Robby’s eyebrows ran towards his hairline as he replied, “I've already seen it. And once was enough, thank you.”
“And what about mine?”
Robby knew that voice. He’d know it in any lifetime, through space and time; Robby would know your fucking voice anywhere. He turned to his left and there you were with your elbows and back resting against the counter. You’d leaned close enough so that your words were for him and him alone.
Robby wanted to humor himself that it had to be his imagination. The flash of something dark, ravenous, and achingly familiar he saw in your eyes must have been his subconscious going haywire. It wasn’t until he watched recognition dawn of what you said, the way you’d fucking said it, crest over your face that Robby knew he hadn’t made it up.
The heat of embarrassment had you straightening up beside him. He could see it in the light tinging of your cheeks, the anxious beat your fingers rapped on the counter. You weren’t looking at him now but he wished you would.
And then the memory of Dana saying you’d been caught smiling at your phone reared its evil head.
Mine.
He couldn’t keep the word from forming in his head. You’d been his for so long and those words of yours meant to tease and force him to give you a response. Robby wanted to tell you that no, once wasn’t enough. It was never enough.
Mine.
The last few months of your relationship had ended in flames but the rest. What about the rest of the many years you’d spent together? They’d been spectacular. The best memories he had you were a part of. The attempts at gardening and doctoring up sick animals. The way you’d dance to his records as you danced through every room while you dusted. The sounds of yours and Jake’s laughter mixing from the kitchen table going over homework.
He could remember the way your hands fisted the sheets as his hands hooked under your thighs to bring you closer to his greedy mouth. Your slick drenching his face, his beard, stubble - whatever phase he was in with or without facial hair. Robby loved it when you began to let go; body melting in his hands as your fingers wound themselves tightly in his hair to pull him closer, deeper. Robby could get drunk off your taste, the soft keening breaths that came ragged and shaking from your chest. How your body trembled as he worked each finger inside you until your back arched beautifully off the bed.
Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine….
He shouldn’t care. He shouldn’t fucking care, but he fucking did.
“What can I do for you, Dr. Fullerton?”
Robby grabbed the PPE gown from beside the table before he went to his full height. From this advantage, he could faintly make out the dying hint of a flush on your cheeks.
“I was talking here first, Sugar tits.”
You pivoted to glance around him and waved at Myrna who waved back with her middle finger.
“Myrna, always a pleasure. I think that’s my third finger wave today,” you muttered the last part to him.
“Dr. Fullerton.”
“Right, right. I wanted to see if I could borrow one of your med students. Central 3 and 4 have two patients, males twenty-three and twenty- four in age. Both were at the same BBQ and believed dumping liter fluid on a fire was a good idea.”
“Yikes.”
“Yeah, they look like human marshmallows right now. One has second-degree burns while central 4 has, what I believe, might be second degrading into three.”
“Do you need me to come take a look?”
It felt like a reasonable question. He was attending and usually, all consultations like this went through him for an opinion. He’d just done it with her half an hour ago. It shouldn’t be a big deal -
“Oh, no, no. Thanks but I think I got this.”
“Oook. If you got it, why do you need a med student?”
“I figure it would be a good teaching moment for one of them on treatments of burns and how to assess the level. I’ve already called surgery for a consultation on central 4. Plus, there’s no available nurse to help me attend to both.”
Robby tried to keep the scoff from coming out. He shook his head and went to move around you, shooting Myrna an irritated glance that hopefully she caught as his nonverbal way of telling her he didn’t want to see her the rest of the day.
“So, you are saying you need help, you just don’t want my help.”
God, he sounded like a petulant child. By the look on your face, you’d agree with that statement.
“Robby, I know you’re busy - “
“I’m not busy,” he cut in.
“Robby, the parents of the OD teen are here.”
Dana came from behind the station, her eyes glancing between the two of you.
“Okay, park them in Trauma 1. He’s not back from CT yet. I’ll be there in a minute. You can borrow Whitaker,” he directed at you.
He had to move. There was still the floating face patient in trauma 2. He needed to find out if they’d been able to prep for a safe intubation and if not, they were doing a solid alternative. Langdon was there with both interns. Robby could trust him. He should’ve been more worried about himself because as he passed by you on his way to trauma 2, he felt his body dip towards you. The jealousy rushed up like a lance piercing his heart as he remembered Dana’s words. The idea that you’d moved on, that someone else had taken his place, threatened to remove whatever sensible bit of himself he had left.
“And don’t pull your phone out on the floor. It’s unprofessional, and I won’t have it in my department. You can step outside like everyone else.”
You didn’t look at him as he spoke. You didn’t even snap at him or give him any hint you’d heard him. Robby knew you’d heard him, but your eyes were solely focused behind him. It was the spot he’d just been standing - the spot Dana now occupied.
Tumblr media
There should’ve been some satisfaction in watching Dana’s face crumble like this. All the earlier anger dissipated back into a playful, if not biting, rhetoric that gave you some hope the day wouldn’t be your version of Dante’s Inferno.
But Robby’s comment…
Only one person saw you on the phone earlier. One person who’d asked about who you’d been talking to while you’d read Jake’s texts. You’d been so ready to shout at Robby that it was Jake, his son. It might have given you some retribution but why should you have to explain anything to him? He was acting like a jealous significant other, not a damn boss. The way he’d pressed himself against you earlier; touching you as if half-possessed.
You weren’t helping, were you? The minute the words had leapt from your mouth you’d wished you could take them back. You shouldn’t have said it and yet, you did. You fucking did and now the wanton look he’d given you was forever etched into your brain.
You were an idiot.
An even bigger idiot for thinking Dana would’ve left anything between you.
“You just couldn’t help yourself. Could you?”
“Kid - “
Dana took a step forward ready to explain. You didn’t have it in you to listen. When the phone went off in her hand you found your way out and took it.
“Do you know where I can find Whitaker?”
“He had a patient around the North-East hallway.”
“Thanks.”
You heard her call your name. Not Fullerton, not kid. Dana said your name and for the first time today, you wished she’d stuck to calling you an asshole.
You followed Dana’s instructions and moved toward the hallways. You weren’t sure how long you’d be searching for him, but luckily it wasn’t long. On the opposite side of the hall, you watched him wheel a patient out of 17 North and into the halls. Whatever the patient said stopped Whitaker in his tracks - both grateful and surprised all at once. You waited a few minutes longer for him to enjoy a good moment with his patient (because sometimes it didn’t always go like that) before you made your way around to get to him.
“Whitaker!”
“Uhm, oh yes. Hi, Dr. Fullerton.”
“I have a couple of burn patients in Central 3 and 4; second to third degree. Dr. Robby said you’d be able to assist if that’s alright?”
“Yeah, yeah. I would. That’d be awesome. Thank you.”
He was so earnest it was endearing. “You’re welcome. Now, let’s go remove some dead tissue.”
You took the lead in showing Whitaker to the rooms. You were trying to make polite conversation. It only seemed fair to take a small interest in what motivated a young doctor to get into the field of medicine, of saving lives. Basic questions such as those were able to tell you a lot about who someone was and if they held enough compassion to be around people during their most vulnerable times.
You did try your best to keep your attention trained on the work. It was your turn to be a teacher, and you wanted to do it well. You didn’t have an excuse why you looked toward Trauma 1. No excuse at all why you watched Robby speak to the kids' parents looking defeated before they’d even begun. There was even less of an excuse for when Robby looked away from them, his eyes searching until he found yours, that should’ve made you want to forget these last two years. You hated the old impulse to run to him - to care for him. The last time you’d seen Robby looking desperately close to combusting like this it’d been a few doors down standing outside pediatrics.
Looking at him now, Robby seemed ready to quit, and it wasn’t even close to 8:30.

Later at the wish granting ceremony, CEO Magnifico announces he’s greenlit Ice Age 6 and five more live-action remakes.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
There are so many cancelled and unrealized projects that Disney is sitting on, that they do not benefit from in any way by keeping them locked up tight. They really ought to just let them go if they don't have any intentions of doing anything with them.
Incidentally, I could never agree with the mentality of “Magnifico is actually the hero, and Asha is the TRUE villain” that a lot of people seem to have. I drew my comic based on this post. I feel like if more people had been aware of this possible interpretation, they wouldn’t have sympathized with Magnifico.
Does Wish have bad writing? Yes, it does. And it’s because of that bad writing that every single character suffers. What I think happened is that, as a result of said bad writing, Asha became a character that’s so uncompelling and lacks uniqueness that she ends up a blank slate for audiences to project their frustrations with the movie onto. King Magnifico on the other hand, is probably the most interesting and entertaining character, due in no small part to Chris Pine’s performance, and so the audience is much more sympathetic towards him and willing to ignore his flaws.
One of Asha’s problems as a character is that she doesn’t really contribute much to the story. By contrast, Magnifico’s downfall is brought about entirely as a result of his own actions. Magnifico is in fact not a good leader, because he gives in to paranoia and temptation, acts in a very unprofessional manner, and escalates the conflict to an absurd degree.
Please note, Asha does not get upset that Magnifico refuses to grant her grandfather’s wish, nor does she ever demand that Magnifico needs to grant every wish. She gets upset that he insinuates that her grandfather might have dangerous intentions, and because he does not have a convincing reason why he doesn’t return wishes that he won’t grant. Rather than calmly explaining his reasoning to her, Magnifico rudely dismisses Asha and then blows up at her.
If Magnifico were a good leader, he would have explained to each person WHY he won’t grant their wish, and given them advice on alternatives. As it stands, he knows full well that everyone expects their wish to be granted. It’s why they even came to Rosas in the first place, it is the literal reason he even built his kingdom. He clearly makes a big spectacle out of the wish granting ceremonies, which every citizen visibly goes wild for. He never elaborates to anyone his specific standards for the wishes he chooses to grant, other than a broad statement of "for the good of the kingdom". In his regard, Magnifico reminds me of bureaucratic systems that never provide every option or solution upfront, with their logic being "you didn't ask".
Not to mention, he literally tells Asha, "People think wishes are just ideas. But no, no, they are a part of your heart. The very best part." He knows, for a fact, how important wishes are to everyone. But the movie's awful writing makes him think the best solution to dealing with wishes that MIGHT have dangerous consequences, is to just hoard them. All that returning the ungranted wishes will accomplish is returning the memory of what the wish even is, that's literally it, and the people will be no better off than they were before they gave Magnifico their wish.
I dunno about you guys, but whenever I watched stories that preached “be careful what you wish for”, my takeaway was never “your desires could be dangerous and you should never pursue them for fear of disaster”, I always thought the stories were telling us, “beware of anything that promises instant gratification, because it’s usually too good to be true, and will cost you more than you will gain”. While the things you want in life may have disastrous consequences, you won’t really know until you try to pursue them through your own honest efforts, and not through “magical” shortcuts. That’s how we learn and grow, through trial and error.
As it currently stands from my point of view, when people say "Magnifico has every right to keep ungranted wishes" it looks like they're unintentionally saying, “The Disney Corporation has every right to keep your work and ideas, because you willingly and legally handed them over. Tough luck if you regret the deal you were given. No takesies backsies!”
While I have found no evidence to confirm that the filmmakers intended for Magnifico to be a criticism of Corporate Disney, considering the inclusion of the animation sweatshop scene in Pixar's Inside Out 2, I think the probability is likely. (Not to mention, when Asha shows Magnifico her little flipbook animation, he dismissively remarks “Do we consider that a talent?”)
Please note, everyone is free to rewrite and reinterpret Magnifico however they want. He's just a fictional character after all, and fan content is supposed to be for fun. I just think it's funny how defensive people get over him a he appears in the final movie. They say he deserved better, and I agree, but we have very different ideas of what "better" means. In fact, I think every character in Wish deserved better, because again, they were all victims of bad writing. My problem isn't that they took a good man and made him arbitrarily "evil", it's that they didn't make him evil enough from the very beginning. Remember those deleted scenes featuring a villainous Magnifico with better writing, along with an evil Amaya that he can play off of? I'm fairly certain that everyone unanimously agreed these deleted scenes were much better than the final movie, and yet some still insist that Magnifico should have been a hero all along. I dunno, it's a funny dichotomy.
EDIT: A few days after posting I came across this video essay supporting the interpretation of Magnifico as a critique of Corporate Disney and I loved it. Please go watch it!

"I didn't realize you think so low of me."
God like I usually HATE the miscommunication trope with a fiery passion because typically it's something painfully obvious that could've easily been avoided and is usually a pointless stressor to elongate the plot but the way it's done with Stolitz is so real like this isn't tiresome tropey miscommunication, it's real world miscommunication. It's a very real scenario that is as complicated as it plays itself to be and it's so well done actually. Like, the perspectives the characters have are completely different because they're individuals with problems and experiences that have formed different views on themselves and the world around them and it's caused this major rift in how they view things. Stolas is a bleeding heart who has always been an honest individual and he doesn't treat his royal status as something to lord over others and tries his hardest to be as free of it as he can despite his obligations, meanwhile Blitz is an imp who has had a rough life and views himself as lowly, as something not deserving of love, as someone that someone like Stolas with all his wealth and power wouldn't ever spare a glance at romantically. Blitz's view is so tainted by his own self-deprecating view of himself and his self-sabotaging nature that he drives Stolas away because he can't even entertain the idea that Stolas would ever genuinely love him.
All up until the moment Stolas has to throw his feelings in Blitz's face and be as vulnerable as he can and say it to him straight. Which is painful. Even for an honest person. What Stolas did is so incredibly difficult for anyone to do because of how raw of an action it is. That level of openness with someone you aren't sure is going to be accepting of it is like trusting someone with a gun pointed at your head not to shoot. This kind of miscommunication isn't just an easy fixup or something that could've been avoided, nor was it unessesary for the plot. It IS the plot. The divergence of their characters and how those two experiences and their flaws clash with one another is the driving narrative here. Stolas being brave enough to let go of the rope he'd given up everything to hold on to, because it was hurting him. Blitz realizing what he was losing and how he was wrong. And Blitz being seconds away from apologizing after he got hit with the reality check he needed only to end up seconds too late.

Slasher Reaction When You're Not Interested In Sex
Warnings: +18 content, manipulation, obsession, unhealthy relationships, dark content, there is a hint of non-con in Art the Clown and Alex DeLarge (are you surprised?), angst, mentions of infidelity in some.
Characters: Michael Myers, Chucky, Billy Loomis, Stu Macher, Patrick Bateman, Hannibal Lecter, Vincent Sinclair, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Art The Clown, Jason Dean, Alex DeLarge, Kurt Kunkle, Brahms.
Michael Myers
Does he really care about that stuff? I feel like you'd have to actively provoke him to get him interested in having sex with you. If you don't bring out that side of him, he won't care. Seriously, he doesn't care. It's quite likely that he won't even care whether or not you want to have sex. He'd rather have you have a bad side that you can't control, something that makes you more like him than anyone else. He'll enjoy that badness and chaos. Sex takes a backseat.
Chucky (Human Version)
I honestly don't think it would work. However, if he really wants to keep you for himself, you'll have to agree to let him have sex with other people. In that case, I think it would work. He'll try to convince you anyway, but he won't force you if you say no. But you'll probably fight, because he'll think it's personal and that you have something against him, and then you'll have an argument that escalates and you'll end your relationship in the worst way. After that they'll get back together and then break up again. And so on. Although, if we're being honest, that scenario is going to happen either way (Chucky is toxic).
Billy Loomis
Okay, he will. But he'll be very manipulative; he'll push you all the time about it, and it'll be much worse if you know he's Ghostface since he might threaten you, and his manipulations will be much worse than if he was pretending to be a good boyfriend. I think you'd eventually agree, but he'll get used to you giving it to him, and it'll be much worse when you say no. I think he wouldn't force you physically, but he'll pretty much use psychological manipulation to get you to do what he wants from you, which is still forcing.
Stu Macher
If you're just another low-level conquest, he'll cheat on you or leave you for someone else. If you're someone special, he'll stick with you even though he gets frustrated. He could be very loyal if you push his weaknesses correctly without Billy finding out. He will insist that you have sex with him in a silly way, acting innocent and playful, but you will be able to see his disappointed and upset face when you say no. However, if you play your cards right, I think he might continue with you without cheating on you; but you have to manipulate him, which will make your relationship even more toxic, but at this point…who cares?
Patrick Bateman
Tough scenario for you. If he thinks you are a person worthy of him, but you just happen not to want to have sex as often as he does, he will overlook that little flaw of yours. However, that doesn't mean it will be good. He wants you to admire him, to be the center of his life, to moan his name loud enough for everyone to hear. If he doesn't feel that way in the sexual realm as well, he will end up cheating on you with other people, but he will keep you by his side selfishly.
Hannibal Lecter
He doesn't care. Just give him control over you in all the other areas of your life. Give him the pleasure of watching you break down to the point of questioning your own morals and life choices. Make him play with your mind and show him your reactions. Tell him everything that happens to you so he can see if he can use it in some way. Give him a challenge and keep him entertained with your conversations. Provide him with a context that leaves him in euphoria and maximum exaltation. If you can do that…who needs sex?
Vincent Sinclair
He will be slightly disappointed, but he will respect you. He will not treat you differently or anything like that. He will not cheat on you or betray you in any way either. He will be very frustrated if Bo finds out and starts bothering him, but it is nothing he cannot handle. Other than that, I don't see any other problems. He cares more about your loyalty and that you follow the orders imposed on you. That's all.
Jason Voorhees
The best scenario for him. It will be much better if you do not want to have sex ever. He likes not having to fight those instincts that disturb him greatly. It's not even going to be brought up; just tell him you're not interested, and the subject will be forgotten as if it never even existed. This doesn't change your relationship at all. In fact, I think it will be better, because for Jason you won't be an unwanted temptation for him, so he won't have two opposing thoughts about you to deal with.
Leatherface
It's okay; he'll understand. He won't force you or anything like that. He won't treat you differently either. I don't think he cares about those things, if I'm honest. He's more focused on his family and loyalty. And that includes you too. He asks that you get along with his family and be okay with what they do. That you don't have a problem, basically.
Art the Clown
He doesn't care in the conventional way. But if he finds out that the subject is sensitive for you, he will use it against you. So it's best not to let it show or say anything to him, because this man is a fucking madman who enjoys other people's pain (you know that). If you don't say it, the subject will go unnoticed for a long time. If Art ever feels sexual desire towards you and wants to have sex with you, he will simply take you and use you. Seriously, he won't ask questions. He sees you as his toy.
Jason Dean
For him not to care, you would have to be crazy like him. In that case, he will overlook it, because he will believe that something as crude as sex does not have to hinder a love as perfect as yours. I think that at first he will feel personally offended by your refusal; he will try to explain to you that he feels rejected. If you explain it sincerely, he will understand and will not insist further. But he will use it against you in arguments to get you to give him more attention and spend more time with him, claiming that he does a lot of things for you.
Alex DeLarge
Uh… no. He wouldn't take you seriously if you didn't want to have sex as much as he does. He likes sex quite a bit; he's not going to give that up. I think he might keep you around if you like ultraviolence and enjoy it as much as he does. I don't think he'll leave behind a person to help him and follow his orders. But you two can't be a couple; it just wouldn't work. He'll actively try to provoke you into falling for it. In your case, it would be much more fun if you gave it to him consensually, because that would mean he has complete control over you and can make you do things he wants of your own free will. However, if he doesn't want you around him because he's not interested in you in any way other than sexually… then things get darker. We already know his tendencies.
Kurt Kunkle
If he doesn't feel rejected, he doesn't care. If he feels rejected, the relationship will be more toxic. He is manipulative and obsessive. He wants you to admire and love him; if he feels that you dislike him sexually, he will not force you, but he will be excessively controlling, and you will argue a lot. He uses it to victimize himself. There will come a point where he becomes a nuisance to you. On the other hand, if he does not feel rejected, that is fine; he will be toxic in other aspects of the relationship.
Brahms
He will take it personally, no matter what you tell him. He will manipulate you, and it will be emotionally draining for you. You will probably agree on several occasions to get him to shut up, or you will end up manipulating him with sex to obey you. He will obey you every time if you offer him sex. He would like to resist, but he is too hungry for contact and needs to feel the sensation.

❝ — FATA VIAM INVENIENT ❞
𓏵 ( the fates will find a way )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
८ sypnosis. the blasphemous scholar, in opposed to the priest of the titans — hadn't you two made it clear that you loathed one another? If so, just why is the Fates so keen on entwining the intricate threads of you in conjunction? Anaxa swears, the Fates really don't play nice. ( anaxa x gn!reader) - wc: 1.9k
@ warnings; angst if u squint .. not much though!! Slight mentions of blood and canon-typical violence, generally, mainly crack? Just exploring anaxa's character & tropes with this one.. ᝰ.ᐟ
── notes. just kind of rivals to lovers-ish but in the sense of like 'hatred is an easier word than love', basically: two idiots refusing to entangle with one another yet find themselves always in that position. I wrote this to try and experiment with Anaxa's character cause he's definitely the hardest one to write. I hate this but i need to get SOMETHING out for anaxa (ᴗ_ᴗ)
You hated ANAXAGORAS, no – even hate was a bleak word to express just how deep your disdain for the green-haired male go. You despised him, and in turn, he loathed you just as much, such was obvious to every single Chrysos Heirs even 3 meters close to either of the two of you. Aglaea shares a similar abhor towards Anaxa, but even she admits not to that extent.
Every time either of you laid eyes on one another, the expression on you and Anaxa’s face goes consecutively sour. A frown framing both of your faces, as Anaxa ushered Hyacine to quickly leave the proximity of your presence, as you quickly (a safe distance away) conducted Castorice to leave, fearing that if you saw his despicable of a face again, you’d most likely throw up. Castorice eyes you weirdly when you claimed that, hesitantly taking a step away from you.
Needless to say, the two of you were polar opposites, ‘opposites attract’ be damned, because you certainly weren’t attracted to the likes of him! He may be smart, a little attractive, with exemplary argumentative statements and intelligence, and he may be good with younger kids, and good at cooking – but he’s not all that.
Not to mention, the two of you just had to both be professors in the Grove of epiphany! Seriously, there’s barely anyone primarily teaching, why couldn’t you just avoid this man? For titan's sake, he ruins your day just by passing by the field of your vision, your heart thumping and your cheeks flushing. Due to hate, of course, what else?
Anaxa despised the gods, a blasphemous existence he ran, the very acknowledgement of their overseeing presence irked him to no end, the fates, the destiny they imposed upon the mortals they so play with like entertainment puppets on their endless strings. He loathed it – you, on the other hand, were ever so obedient and bending to the wills of the gods, going on about, oh the gods believe ‘this’, the gods believe ‘that’, whenever you enter his classroom, Hyacine has to stop the two of you from engaging in an infinite verbal arguments in front of all his students.
You, a priest under Tribbie, a Chrysos Heir, adhering to the wills of the citizens, claiming prayer, singing praises for the divine above as if the gods ever cared even the slightest about any of them. Anaxa narrows his eyes at any act you perform for the gods, he almost feels sickened by it. Thus, when you first met – led to him ‘accidentally’ spilling a cup of coffee on you, the sarcastic display of an apology he gave, which then accelerated to the hatred you both held now. (PS; it really was an accident, and he did feel bad about it, but due to Anaxa’s pride, he would rather kill himself than say sorry to you)
Tumblr media
“Your logic is flawed, your argument proves no pivotal point, insinuations towards your essential research query has not of any evidence nor extensive knowledge, is this what you are feeding to your students?” Anaxa dismissed you with a scoff, as he ‘happened’ to pass by your lecture – with the two of you both being professors at the Grove, somehow, someway – the universe seemed to love placing you together when both wanted nothing but to be as far away from one another as possible.
“No one asked you, professor Anaxa.”
“It’s Anaxagoras.” He scowled, his eyebrows pinching against each other.
“That’s my bad, Anaxa.”
“G-guys!” Hyacine stammered, waving her hand frantically to stop the eye contest the two of you shared in the room full of confused students, neither of you ever backed down, though.
This pattern of verbal arguments seemed to never cease. This, quickly became a nightmare for anyone in both of your proximations.
Tumblr media
“I’m pretty sure your ideology towards this is incorrect.” Anaxa noted, eyes peering onto your board.
“I’m pretty sure I’m going to bash your head into the wall.” You glared back at him, your words of attempted threats did little to faze his stoic demeanor.
“Maybe when you get the right idea.”
“You little–!”
“Can you two please focus on the Chrysos Heirs meeting?” Aglaea sighed, her voice a stammer of annoyance or resignation at your childish camaraderies, urging you two to take your respective seats before another verbal debate happened to commence, and possibly delaying the progression of her plans further.
Tumblr media
“You just seem to have all the answers in the world, don’t you?” You scoffed at the brazen display of knowledge that he bloated to - well, everyone.
“Someone has to be the voice of truth, of knowledge. Clearly, you aren’t that voice.” Anaxa hummed, not even lifting his head from his book. However, you didn’t fail to notice that he lifted his eye up to goad at your reaction.
“Gods I wish some external forces were to dissipate you.”
“Creative, but I don’t believe in the gods.”
“I swear to Kephale–” You scowled, his nonchalant facade seemed to fuel your competitive side as well.
“Still don’t place belief in the titans either.”
“Okay that’s it.”
"U-uh, we think this overview can end here..!" Tribbie suggested, her bright red hair stuck between the glare you and Anaxa shared, as Trianne and Trinnon allocated a glance at each other, then you two.
Tumblr media
“(name), are you sure you really hate Anaxa? You talk about him so much even I think–” Aglaea started, hesitant to interrupt your thirty-first ranting session that week about Anaxa and all his apparent flaws, somehow, you always come up with new ones each time.
“I do not like him!”
Castorice and Aglaea paused, turning to share a glance, a small smile creeped onto Castorice’s lips.
“I didn’t ask whether you liked him or not.” Aglaea only offered a smile, to which you quickly avoided, spouting out the best rebuttal possible.
“Well, either way, I do not, do not like him!”
“But (name), I think it’s fine if you do, he seems to like you.” Castorice softly smiled, you knew she had no ill intent, but you were close to leaping off a ledge. Though, you couldn’t help but get slightly curious at her words.
“Yeah I don’t know where you got that from but he hates me, and fair, because I hate him too!”
The two paused, a glance shared with each other, then both turned their gaze to you, before Aglaea casted her hand on your shoulder with a reassuring glance??
“It’s okay, (name), rejection is–”
“I do not like him!”
What the two wished to say drowned in the moment, because both Castorice and Aglaea shared a quiet agreement that the words should properly come from Anaxa himself. Perhaps, you were simply blinded by hate, because despite the disdain, Anaxa’s eyes are always on you. No matter how far away.
Tumblr media
It seems like the black tide was just as relentless as it sounded, because you, hunched over your stomach with a hand obscuring the iron-scented blood that stained your hand a disturbing bright red color wasn’t a good sight.
The grove of epiphany had been, for a lack of better words, evaded, by monsters drawn in by the black tide, along with a tall male-like figure dressed in a black cloak, the sword they held an abysmal of stars, which, you would’ve been mesmerized by, had it not struck you.
You weren’t a fighter. More of a priest – scholar, than anything, so just why did you stick behind in the grove of epiphany in an attempt to ‘protect’ your home from being ravaged by said beasts? It’s not a reason you’d ever admit out loud, no, not even if you were held at gunpoint, but you ultimately chose to stay because of Anaxa.
You quietly cursed yourself in your mind, a fumble of thoughts circling that made the wound too apparent, a burning sear traveled up your sides in an annoyed fury.
“(name), that’s enough.” Anaxa cursed, limping to your sides. You looked up, meeting his gaze, and hell, you really thought that you were already dead, because Anaxa looked like he was going to cry. Or, maybe it’s your own tears obscuring your vision, you really can’t tell.
He really couldn’t garner a bit of you. At all. Had you just left with the rest of the scholars like any dignified and reasonable person - you would’ve been fine! He wouldn’t have to look at you injured and feel that weird tugging at his heart like he’s the one injured, nor the clog of his throat that forced his words down as he stared at you.
Anaxa told you to leave the Grove of Epiphany behind, his hand had grasped your arm as he tried to reason with your obscene of an idea, he wanted you to be safe for - logic’s sake! The fighting hadn’t receded, as the monsters still towed across the soft hums of the trees in the Grove as he held you in his arms.
One of his hands rested on your shoulder, to steady you, the other – hovered over your injured form, afraid. But what was he afraid of? Had you asked Anaxa that, he might’ve chased you down before you could hear his answer.
“Why couldn’t you just have left?” He bitterly recounted, trying to calm his own mind. His body wasn’t looking any greater, either. His words were sharp, but lacked the usual bite as it would when he talked to you.
He couldn’t help it – he softened his voice unconsciously, with you so vulnerable. A soft breeze of the wind reminded him of the presence of a titan that loomed over his shoulder, gazing at his pathetic display of an emotional vulnerability, but he paid it no mind, not this time.
He didn't wait for you to talk, not that you could muster up much, the injuries rendering you quiet, to the point where he found a weird distaste towards your unusual lack of a rebuttal, shouldn't he be happy? The thought left a weird taste in his mouth.
He turned to Cerces, the reason titan. A resounding gaze in his eyes that didn’t offer any betrayal of emotions.
“You have to protect them. Please.”
He didn’t believe in gods, nor the titans - of their virtuous and welfare deeds they claimed and whatnot, but if that belief would protect you at this very moment, he’ll pray thousands of times over to secure you alive again. Even if you wanted to hit him in the face, even if you offered the dumbest of arguments, even if your presence annoyed him.
Cerces nodded, her gaze almost sorrowful, pitying the likes of him. Maybe she knew what it was like. A loved one, but Anaxa could care less about anything other than your state, because the fates just had to make him care about you, didn’t they?
He truly was a puppet to the strings of fate, as much as he tried to deny so, even in this sense. After all, Anaxa couldn’t help but care for you.
“Sorry, Anaxa..” You weakly peer up, your consciousness slipping out of your head, Anaxa looked down, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear softly, his hand hovering closer to your face, if you were just a bit more conscious, you might’ve seen the upturn of his lips.
Anaxa shakes his head softly. “Don’t be foolish, just rest.. You know you can’t possibly offend me.”
Tumblr media
NOTES:
- OUH I HATE THIS SM. This took half my brain out i seriously DESPISE this. Anaxa's character is so interesting but so HARDDDD to incorporate when I want to vro - small notes i'd like to say: i really really like Anaxa's annotations to his real life excerpt: the greek philosopher Anaxagoras hahah, it's quite interesting because the said philosopher actually came up with the philosophy of nous !! And the greek mythology reference he could be based on is so annoying to think about because i can't find a good hero or god to base him off of, it's a work in progress though TT - I'm sorry if the dialogue were buttcheeks i can't write dialogue for the life of me. I just don't socialize man how am i supposed to know how to write people talking if I aint even talk??

THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP: A LOONEY TUNES MOVIE Movie Review
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest, when it comes to movies, the Looney Tunes brand has not had a very good run this decade. In 2021 there was Space Jam: A New Legacy, which turned out to be nothing but a shameless commercial for all things Warner Bros., and then there was the infamous tale of the shelved Coyote vs. Acme movie that may never see the light of day. So it’s with all of these tragedies that it’s a miracle that this movie, The Day The Earth Blew Up, even got released. (Granted through Ketchup Entertainment and not WB. themselves.) Not only that, but it’s also incredible that the end result is undeniably the best Looney Tunes ever made.
THE GOOD
What separates this movie from something like the Space Jam sequel, is that it is made by people who clearly love Looney Tunes. Despite the fact that we only have three characters, this movie stays true to who they are. Daffy Duck is more reflective of how his was when he was first introduced and before he started being paired up with Bugs Bunny. He’s a complete lunatic, he’s overly confident, and has a tendency to cause more trouble than what they have to deal with in the moment! Meanwhile, Porky Pig is the more sensible of the two, complete with his famous stutter. Eric Bauza does a fantastic job voicing both characters and much like Mel Blanc long before, it’s incredible how many of the Looney Tunes characters he’s able to voice to perfection. Petunia Pig is also a fun character. She manages to be the most sensible of the group, while also being crazy and…dare I say looney in her own way!
The animation is spectacular. It’s great to not only see classic 2D animation, but also 2D animation that was made for a big screen experience. The last two animated movies that I can think of that look like they were hand drawn are The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim or Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. In both instances, you watch those movies and question the reason to release them in theaters. The animation in The Day The Earth Blew Up is not only smooth and well detailed, but it also amplifies the insanity and comedy. One of my favorite gags is with Farmer Jim, the adopted father of both Daffy and Porky. While our two main characters are fully animated, Farmer Jim is mostly a static drawing played for full comic effect.
The movie is not just hilarious in how it captures the spirit of Looney Tunes, but also how it works as a parody of the alien invasion movies of the 1950s. From mind control, alien goo, 50s style flying saucers, and the title of the film itself, this movie is a perfect homage to those old school science fiction movies. However it’s mixed with that very chaotic tone that you expect from Looney Tunes and features enough twists that make the movie feel fresh and funny! The big masterplan of the alien invader is ridiculous but makes sense within the nature of the film!
OVERALL
This is about as good as a Looney Tunes movie can get and the flaws it has, aren't worth mentioning! I never got the appeal of Space Jam, and this is coming from a kid of the 90s. That movie should’ve been my childhood, but it just doesn’t work for me. As for Looney Tunes: Back in Action, I have a soft spot for that movie, but even then I can’t deny that The Day The Earth Blew Up blows that one out of the water. It’s got spectacular animation, it’s fateful to the source material, the characters are fun, and it’s jam-packed with jokes that made me laugh hard! Not to mention it has a lot of heart when it comes to Daffy and Porky’s friendship. It’s a reminder of what made Looney Tunes work in the first place and why they will endure until the end of time despite David Zaslav’s hatred for them!

to be distressingly earnest for a moment, I cannot applaud sylvia feketekuty enough for how incredibly well she balances comedy and actual emotional impact in emmrich's storyline. it's such a fine line to walk as a writer, and she does it perfectly to my mind. johanna hezenkoss is a wonderfully cartoonish heightened comedy character whose literal stated goal is world domination by means of necromancy and also this giant skeleton mecha monster I built. her main redeeming quality is that she's SO entertaining and perfectly unrepentantly herself at every turn and never ever does she grow anything we might readily recognize as a conscience; she may be a monster but in such a marvellous way you simply cannot begrudge her for it. we are going full tilt into the yzma zone here and never looking back. and yet! emmrich's reactions to her, and the lingering emotional fallout of their friendship ending clinging to everything, are very real and grounded and genuine, and her functionality in the narrative rock solid. it's still funny the whole way through, but also weirdly poignant.
she is a blunt archetype, but her presence causes nuance in other places. it tests emmrich's inherent kindness to show some of the flaws running through it. it shows quirks in his character you couldn't get at otherwise, exposes what the lines of temptation can get their hooks in him even in all his genuine basic well-meaningness way before the lich storyline gets fully unveiled -- that there is something in him that was drawn to her ambition and unceasing intellectual exploration of the world, even when it edged up on ruthless; that it was only when the line was openly crossed he put his foot down for good. it exposes the darker side of nevarra's political life, especially the mortalitasi -- that it would only take a handful of them forsaking their oaths and morals and deciding that ruling from behind the throne isn't enough. in the words of emmrich, how easily it would make them a new tevinter, except with a skeleton army so arguably much more metal. the slope is slippery. watch where you put your feet, watcher.
and johanna's cheerful and unrepentant spider verse doc ock supervillain antics are emblematic of the way that aside from anything else, this storyline is also -- and I must return to it once more, one cannot emphasize this enough -- so so SO entertaining about it along the way. it sets the tone in that it's campy and over the top and hilarious... a levity you really do need to bring to emmrich's arc, revolving as it does around *checks notes scribbled on hand* ah. the desperate crippling all-consuming terror of death. like um. yes. you need some liberal spoonfuls of comedic relief to make that particular theme palatable enough to get through and process, and providing that feels like both a very kind, a very intelligent, and very wise thing to do as a writer. and also ties in so perfectly with the whole thematic structure and conclusion -- the message that perhaps you will always be afraid of this thing. maybe that fear of cessation, of irretrievable loss, will be with you forever. but there is kindness and connection and fascinating things to discover in this world to make it bearable. it's all very elegantly done and I admire it deeply on a craft level as much as I appreciate getting to engage with it as a player. a masterful balancing act of tone. thank you for coming to my ted talk and goodbye

I’m asking this out of pure curiosity, in another post you said one of the reasons you don’t like the nightmare critters is because they don’t follow the design rules set by the smiling critters, exactly what do you mean by that? Like in your words what does a critter have to look like to be considered a smiling critter? I’m not trying to be rude or anything I’m just trying to understand what you mean
I dont find this rude don't worry- a lot of people don't actually notice this, but sometimes when a group of characters are designed together, in order to make them look cohesive, there are unspoken rules that may go unnoticed to viewers untrained eye, but helps keeps the characters looking like they came from the same place.
I mentioned, back when I was into Welcome Home, that they used a very special rainbow pallet that hardly ever included purple.
And when old black and white cartoons are brought up, there's specific clothing and anatomy (like pie cut eyes and hose-like limbs) that define the rules of the era.
If you want a cohesive character design, you have to pick out the rules, and then decide when breaking them would benefit the character in a way that won't break the viewers immersion.
Tumblr media
Some of the most obvious rules I caught for the smiling critters:
- 2 color pallet.
- Simple Charms
- Tongues but NO TEETH
- Dynamic posing that speaks to their personality
Some of the critters break these rules for the benefit of diversity, but never ALL of them! Dogday is the leader, so he gets an extra color, Crafty is all white, but her CHARM is rainbow, so it balances it out. Kicken doesn't use a lot of his second color, because the LEADER is also using that color.
None of their charms get that detailed. All of them maintain the no teeth rule because that was the whole fucking point of their creepy factor- big open GAPING maws, no teeth. And all of their poses spoke to their personalities. Half of them aren't just *standing there* with a hand up for no reason, and none of them used the same pose.
Now let's compare with these rejects.
Tumblr media
Ignoring the fact that Mob Entertainment failed to realize they didn't even post the right images for the first three nightmare critters they showed off (failing to include the iconic smiling critters line-shadow-effect)
-Simon, Maggie, Rabie, Allister and Touille break the color pallet rule, this amount needs to be lowered. To like 3 at most. Holy shit.
-Icky, Maggie, Touille, and Baba's charms are FAR to detailed, they do not need to be.
-THE TEETH OH MY GOD I HATE THE TEETH SO FUCKING MUCH you have ruined anything scary about them in one simply design choice I hope you're happy Mob entertainment.
- Touille and Allister have the same pose. Icky and Maggie have the same pose. Simon and Poe have the same pose. And NONE of them are as effective at telling their personalities as much as the smiling critters were.
Further more- even beyond rules. Icky is FUNDAMENTALY FLAWED as a design. They're ugly- not to mention we all struggled to know what the fuck he actually WAS supposed to be when he was released. It took someone pointing out that he didn't have a tail for me to realize he was one of those toxic frogs.
If you're gonna make something based on a group of characters you ALREADY made, and try to pass them off as new characters, I expect the rules to be the same. These are ugly knock offs made to sell more plushies on Mob entertainments website and I hate them with every FIBER of my being.

a little too prideful.
read part two (a semi-standalone comfort fic) here
warnings: blood, mimzy, violence & gore (alastor), injury & gun violence (you), cannabalism (alastor again), light angst w/ a happy ending
word count: 3735
summary: When Mimzy lures a group of vengeful loan sharks to the hotel, you’re left to deal with the fallout—both physically and emotionally—while Alastor is forced to realize that his pride blinded him to the one thing that truly mattered: you. (story takes place during ep. 5)
alastor x f!reader—technically gn!reader minus the ~two instances i use 'her' pronouns for clarity. whoo this one's a doozy. i'm not necessarily sure if i'm proud of how this turned out, especially since a good chunk is just taken from episode 5. i also struggle a lot with multi-character scenes like this, so please let me know if i could improve on anything. nonetheless, though, i hope you all enjoy!
Life at the Hazbin Hotel with Alastor was many things—chaotic, unconventional, but above all, it was yours. The two of you had carved out a comfortable existence amidst the madness, his constant grin and ever dramatic behavior a fixture in your day-to-day life. It was hard not to adore the way he’d hum while cooking, or the way he’d twirl you in the hallway just for the fun of it. You had accepted him despite all his flaws, including his particular flaw of being obsessive over his power. But, hey, they don’t just call it the Pride Ring for no reason.
Tonight was no different. You sat with the rest of the hotel group, half-listening as Lucifer and Alastor bickered back and forth in song, their battle of wits crescendoing in dramatic flair. It was an odd sort of game, something between posturing and genuine irritation, and though you were used to Alastor’s theatrics, the sudden appearance of Lucifer had only seemed to make him more insufferable.
And that's when she arrived.
Mimzy. A name whispered from the past, a figure Alastor knew from his time alive. She waltzed through the doors of the hotel like she owned the place, all charm and nostalgia, completely interrupting Alastor and Lucifer—the goddamned Radio Demon and the very King of Hell. Everyone else seemed bewildered by her unexpected entrance, save for you and Husk. Because unlike the others, you both recognized her. Mimzy wasn’t just another demon Alastor knew: she was perhaps the only one still lingering from his life before Hell. And that was a life he never spoke about to you.
You weren’t jealous. Of course not. That would be ridiculous. Petty, even!
Which is why you smiled and offered her a drink when she settled in like she belonged there. Even when Alastor seemed more preoccupied with his initial task of challenging Lucifer, you continued to make polite conversation, keeping Mimzy company like a good host as Alastor waltzed off with Charlie and Vaggie to show Lucifer around the hotel. You even decided not to question why exactly she was there, because you definitely weren’t someone who was even remotely bothered by the way she looked at your lover—your Alastor—like she still knew him better than anyone else in the room. You must simply be paranoid!
Thankfully, Angel Dust and Husk kept you entertained by the bar with their usual banter, sparing you from being the sole communicator with Mimzy. You were actually starting to have a decent conversation with her, listening to her talk about how she used to perform at the jazz club Alastor commonly frequented, finally excited to get a glimpse into Alastor’s life before his fall to damnation. But Mimzy had a way of causing commotion, and she knew it. She, like Al, seemed to share the same sin of pride, which resulted in her slipping a sharp, snide little comment hidden beneath her layers of old-timey charm.
"Oh, sweetheart, I do admire ya dedication. Must be so tiring, trying to keep a man like Alastor entertained. I mean, he does get bored so easily, doesn’t he? I’m even surprised he kept me along for this long!"
The words struck deeper than you wanted to admit. Her comment made Angel Dust’s amused grin falter, his mismatched eyes widening in offense for you. Even Husk paused, ears flicking at the sheer audacity.
But you? You simply smiled.
Because you weren’t petty. You were raised better than to stoop down to her level, knowing just how much she wanted to see the worst in you come out. So all you did was smile, your hand tightening on your glass imperceptibly.
“I like to think I do alright,” you replied, voice saccharine. And before she could get in another jab, you excused yourself, turning on your heel before anyone could see the way your jaw clenched just a little too tight.
You needed to find Alastor.
Tumblr media
It took some searching, but you found him shadowing Charlie, Vaggie, and Lucifer as they walked the halls, his posture perfectly poised, his expression fixed in a grin that was just a little too flawless. Lucifer’s presence was, as expected, a threat to the power balance in the hotel, and Alastor was treating it as such.
Your feet picked up the pace, jogging up to him as you called his name. He didn’t turn.
You tried again, and this time, his head snapped toward you, his entire neck cracking with the speed of it. His smile was still there, but his eyes… they were strained.
“Dearest,” he greeted, the word drawn out with thin patience as he twisted his body to match his inhumanely turned neck. “I’m a little busy at the moment.”
You purse your lips sourly, crossing your arms as you replied. “Mimzy said something to me. Something rude. I—”
“Oh, she does that all the time,” Alastor interrupted, waving a dismissive hand. “Don’t take it so personally, cher.”
Your brows furrowed, impatience rising. “Al, she—”
“Really, must we do this now?” His voice, usually so smooth and lilting, held the barest edge of frustration. His focus was drifting back to Lucifer, and that—that stung more than it should have.
“Alastor,” you pressed, but he cut you off again, his expression flickering with exasperation.
“I’m trying to ensure Lucifer Morningstar doesn’t throw this place into absolute chaos,” he said, his usual theatrics dampened by irritation. “Forgive me if I don’t have time to entertain every little grievance.”
That was the breaking point.
Your hands curled into fists at your sides. You weren’t asking him to start a war over this, you just wanted him to listen. But apparently, his pride, his status, his stupid fixation on proving himself compared to Lucifer—that mattered more.
“Fine,” you bit out, voice tight. “Go ahead. Play your little game. I’ll be downstairs.”
And with that, you resisted the urge to bark anything else at him and left, ignoring the way his shadow frowned as you stormed away.
By the time you reached the lobby again, your anger was simmering beneath the surface, hot and unresolved. Angel Dust raised a brow as you rejoined them, Husk grunted in acknowledgment, and Mimzy?
She just smirked.
And that—oh, that just made your blood boil all the more. You bit your cheek harshly, letting the pain distract you from the way you wanted to absolutely tear your claws into her snobby little head.
Just as you were about to say something, the hotel trembled violently, sending dust raining from the ceiling. Your eyes shot open from the interruption, the four of you jolting from the bar in surprise. Angel Dust barely had time to curse before another explosion rocked the walls, and even Sir Pentious and Niffty had rushed out into the lobby to see what was happening. Husk’s ears flicked in irritation, eyes narrowing as he downed the rest of his whiskey in a single gulp.
“What the hell is goin’ on?” Husk grumbled, pushing himself off the counter.
Niffty skittered toward the window, peeking outside. Her single eye widened, smile terrifyingly wide: "Oh, wow! Lots of company! And they don’t look very friendly!"
You pushed yourself up from the bar stool, already seething from your argument with Alastor, only for your frustration to triple when you caught sight of what was happening outside through the windows. Your hotel was under attack.
Explosions continued to pelt the exterior, fire and debris scattering across the pavement. Figures lurked in the smoke, their silhouettes illuminated by the flickering flames. Loan sharks. Armed. Dangerous. And heading straight for the entrance.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” you hissed, storming toward the door, ignoring Angel Dust’s warning call.
The moment you stepped outside, the gunfire ceased momentarily as the gangsters caught sight of you. Their expressions twisted into rage, and before you could say a word, one of them barked, “That must be her—Mimzy! Get her!”
You barely had time to register what they meant before pain exploded through your side. A gunshot rang in your ears, the impact knocking you backward as agony tore through you. You hit the pavement, breath wheezing from your lungs as Angel Dust and Husk shouted your name.
“Oh, hell no!” Angel snarled, grabbing you before they could get another shot off. Husk swore under his breath, hauling you back into the hotel as more bullets followed, splintering the doorframe. “What the ever-loving fuck did you do, Mimzy?!”
Inside, you gasped, hand pressing against the wound in your side as black blood seeped through your fingers. The injury wasn’t too damaging and you hardly worried since it wasn’t an angelic bullet, but your vision still swam from the sudden sting. Angel crouched beside you, protective, his face set in grim determination (and annoyance of this entire situation) as Niffty rushed off to grab medical supplies. You were too busy focusing on the teeth-clenching pain to hear Husk arguing with Mimzy over why these loan sharks had said her name, hearing her say she apparently owes them fifty grand. Before you could even respond to her words, Sir Pentious’ shouted at everyone as he dodged a fireball. “Take cover!”
You watched as the hotel descended into chaos. Angel lunged forward, yanking Niffty out of the way before another fireball could flatten her. Husk abandoned Mimzy without a second thought, his wings fluttering as he rushed to your side. He grabbed you gently, hauling you against the bar wall, out of the direct line of fire.
Angel was back in an instant, Niffty dangling from one of his arms. The moment he drops her onto the floor, she tears through the hotel's makeshift first aid kit, muttering curses about bloodstains on her carpets.
(A passing reminder to thank Charlie for creating a first aid kit for the hotel entered your mind, the temporary thought stored in the back of your adrenaline-filled brain as you realized how genius the idea was even if you all had originally found the concept laughable.
Who knew you would need one when fighting and pain was practically a daily guarantee in Hell?)
Charlie, Lucifer, Vaggie, and Alastor descend from the staircase a minute later, their eyes scanning the chaos. But it was Alastor who froze, his entire frame going rigid as his eyes landed on you. You two locked eyes for a moment, his foot hovering mid step as he took in your pained expression.
The ever-present smile on his face faltered, just for a second.
Then his world snapped.
Alastor’s gaze darkened, his static flickering erratically as he shadowed towards you in the blink of an eye. His movements were slow, almost mechanical, as he crouched before you, reaching out to gently touch the black blood on your fingers. When he pulled back, his hand trembled, shadows pooling below his kneeling body exponentially.
You had never seen him look like this before.
Vaggie took a step forward from behind the broken front doors, holding her spear in her hands with a pissed off expression. “All of you, get a safe distance. I’ll take care of this.”
Alastor didn’t even glance at her. His voice came out in a low, sickeningly sweet purr. "No, my dear, leave it to me. It’s time I remind everyone why I am here."
Mimzy, pops up from behind the bar counter, perked up. “Oh, finally! Took ya long enough!”
Alastor didn’t react. His shadow twisted violently beneath him, tendrils stretching, shifting, writhing as an eerie green glow seeped through the cracks of the floorboards.
Outside, the gangsters were reloading their catapult and guns, laughing amongst themselves—until the air grew thick with static. A heavy, suffocating weight pressed down on the street, the distant flickering of the hotel’s neon sign the only warning before a massive tendril shot out, smashing the catapult to pieces.
The loan sharks barely had time to scream before more tendrils erupted from the ground, slicing through them like they were nothing but paper dolls.
Alastor’s laughter rang through the chaos, distorted and wrong. His body grew taller, limbs elongating unnaturally as his smile stretched too wide, his antlers curling into jagged points. His form twisted, pulsing with raw, unfiltered eldritch power as his shadow spread across the pavement. You heard Husk curse next to you in horror, your eyes glancing to the terrified bartender as he crouched beside you.
“A reminder to all,” Alastor’s voice boomed, shaking the very ground beneath them, “not to mess with the Radio Demon!”
The remaining demons screamed, scrambling to retreat, their weapons useless against something so vastly beyond them. Alastor stepped forward out of the archway of the once undamaged doors, unforgiving and unrelenting as he grew in size with every step. His eyes turn into two red radio dials floating in dark pools of shadow, his radio staff puny compared to his now gigantic form.
“I will devour each and every one of you,” he broadcasted from his unmoving smile, voice rich with unhinged delight.
You winced as you watched your lover start to swallow the mafia members whole, unleashing his stress from today as distant cries of terror fill the hotel. Unfortunately, the broken windows of the lobby did no justice in shielding any of your eyes from the chaos outside, resulting in you having to grossly look away at the gore happening in front of you.
Angel Dust watches beside you, shaking his head as he’s mesmerized by the scene. “I can’t believe you date this guy.”
Your chest huffs in an attempt to laugh, groaning softly as you hear Charlie and Lucifer arguing in the background. The hotel was filled with the sound of family drama and cannibalism, yet somehow that seemed to be even better than the sound of Mimzy’s grating voice cheering Alastor on.
After a mere few seconds, the battlefield was silent save for the faint crackling of embers and the distant, gurgling groans of the last unlucky gangsters who had met their demise at The Radio Demon’s hands. Alastor, now shrinking back into his usual form, let out a sigh of satisfaction, brushing imaginary dust from his sleeves.
“Oh, I missed getting to let off steam!” he chirped, his voice dripping with amusement.
The tension in the air hadn’t yet settled when Mimzy emerged from the hotel, peeking out to ensure the coast was clear before prancing toward Alastor with a delighted grin. “Oh, Alastor! What a fantastic show! Bravo! As always. Thanks for helpin’ lil’ old me out of a tough spot, you're always such a pal!”
Before Alastor could respond, a loud crack split the air above you.
Your head snapped up just in time to see a massive chunk of debris from the ruined floor above give way, plummeting toward you and Angel Dust.
“Move!” Angel yelped, grabbing you as the two of you dove aside. The wreckage slammed into the ground where you had been leaning on the wall just seconds before, sending a gust of dust and gravel into the air.
Your pulse pounded in your ears, adrenaline and pain mingling in your veins as you looked up, meeting Alastor’s gaze. His red eyes flickered between you and Mimzy, and for the first time since the carnage began, his smile began to wane as the static in the air crackled with unease.
You weren’t just glaring—you were seething.
It was a rare sight to see you so angry, your emotions normally hidden well behind your mask of calm, poised indifference. Typically, Alastor would be reveling at the fire blazing within your eyes, delighted to see his darling so full of wrath it made anyone in your line of sight shake in terror. Yet in this instance, as Alastor stared a moment longer, he realized he was technically in your line of sight, along with the blonde flapper next to him who caused this whole mess.
Alastor watched as you narrowed your eyes even more at him, taking a mental picture of your fury to cherish forever. Then, with a slow turn of his head, he set his gaze upon Mimzy, his usually cheerful aura twisting into something cold. He realized Mimzy had been speaking to him, something along the lines of apologizing for the mess—really, he could care less what Mimzy was saying given the full extent of things.
“I think you should go, Mimzy.” His flat voice was devoid of amusement.
Mimzy scoffed, twirling a stray curl of hair between her fingers. “Oh pff, Alastor, you're such a kidder, you! Haha, you are so funny—”
“I mean it.” His voice sharpened, cutting through the tension like a knife. “You deliberately brought danger to this place just to have me clean up your mess. I can’t have that here.”
Mimzy’s smug expression faltered, but she quickly recovered, waving a dismissive hand. “But you love takin’ care of me! What? You don’t actually give a shit about this tacky little place, do ya? Come on. I know you.”
She took a step forward, jabbing a sharp-nailed finger into his chest with every word.
“You heartless son—” poke.
“—of a—” poke.
“—bitch!” poke.
Before she could finish, Alastor caught her wrist in midair, his grip like iron. His smile had all but disappeared.
“I do care about this place.” He let her wrist go, stepping past her to glance where you sat on the ground in the hotel, still nursing your injury. His fingers twitched, desperate to shadow next to you, but he simply clenched his twitching hand into a fist. “And more than that, I care about her.”
Mimzy’s face twisted in disbelief. “What?”
Alastor’s eyes sideglanced at Mimzy, his voice laced with something genuine. “I am madly devoted to her. And I refuse to let anyone—anyone—disrespect her. Especially under my roof.” His eyes flickered with finality as he fully turned back to Mimzy. “So unless you plan on giving a damn well and sincere apology to her, you are no longer welcome here.”
Mimzy stood there, mouth agape, before scoffing dramatically and throwing her arms up. “Well, fine! Who needs ya?! Have fun with ya little sweetheart and ya little hotel. See if I care!”
With one last huff, she stomped off, disappearing into the distance.
The moment she was gone, Alastor turned back to the hotel, his sharp gaze softening with concern as his eyes landed on you. Everyone in the lobby had seen this little fiasco unravel, Husk, Sir Pentious, and Angel all sharing snacks as they hummed in appreciation at the drama. You simply sat on the ground a few feet away as he appeared in front of you, his shadow curling around your ankle as it stared up in worry from the floor. Alastor crouched down, his fingers ghosting over your wound, his usual devil-may-care attitude completely absent.
“You should have listened to me,” you muttered, still glaring, though your voice had lost some of its edge.
Alastor winced, his breath hitching at the exhaustion laced in your voice. His fingers twitched against yours, his usual bravado faltering for just a moment. He averted his gaze, as if the sight of your pain was too much even for him, before forcing himself to meet your eyes again.
"Yes… I see that now." His hand finally rested over yours, pressing lightly against the wound as if to assure himself that you were still there. “I was wrong. I should have listened to you from the start. I was too… preoccupied.”
You raised a skeptical brow. “Too prideful.”
He let out a soft, breathy chuckle. “That, too.”
A moment of silence stretched between you before Alastor finally sighed, something deeply regretful in his expression. “I’m… truly, truly sorry, mon cœur. I should have protected you. I will make this up to you.” His voice lowered, his fingers gently lacing with yours. “Just… tell me how. Anything you ask for is yours, even though it was already yours before this whole incident occured today.”
You sighed, the tension in your body slowly easing, though not entirely. A part of you still wanted to stay angry, to let him sweat a little longer, but exhaustion tugged at your limbs. The ache in your side throbbed as if reminding you that you had bigger things to worry about. Still, you weren’t ready to let him off the hook so easily, exhaling deeply once more as you spoke. “You owe me, Al.”
His grin returned, softer this time—devoid of its usual mischief, holding only sincerity. “Then I shall spend every waking moment treating you the way you deserve. Like royalty, my love.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn't help the tiny smile tugging at the corner of your lips. “Damn right you will.”
Alastor chuckled, finally helping you to your feet as you rejoined the group. His grip was firm, steadying you a little too carefully, his fingers lingering at your waist even after you were standing upright. His usual boundless energy seemed restrained, his eyes flickering over your wounds before he forced his smile to remain in place. You could tell—he was still shaken, even if he’d never admit it.
You watched as Niffty scurried around the hotel, eager to clean up the damage. It seemed like Charlie and Lucifer had made up, your anger at today’s events lessening ever so slightly as you watched the two. Even Husk, Angel Dust, and Sir Pentious had seemed to be helping clean up, even if Vaggie was yelling at them to do it.
As Alastor wrapped a careful arm around you, leading you toward a more comfortable place to rest on one of the less damaged couches, he leaned down, whispering just for you to hear.
“I do love you, you know.”
Your heart fluttered, but you played it cool, nudging him in the ribs. “You better.”
His smile widened, his head lowering to give you a hidden kiss behind your ear as he paused for a moment. “I’m sorry you got hurt… because of me.”
You hum slightly at his display of vulnerability, your own mouth morphing into a soft smile. “You’re an idiot, but,” You pause, closing the distance between you as you rub his head with yours, “I love you as well.”
And despite the pain, despite the chaos, despite everything—you knew he would spend the rest of his afterlife making sure he never let his pride come before you again.
