This is a newer one in the genre you can get in on the ground floor of. Uesugi-kun Wants to Quit Being a Girl. This time the MC already started off looking really girly but personality wise doesn't follow suit. Which is a pretty rare combo for these fire-and-forget genderbender stories. And I like the magic reasoning setup, kid is bummed because he wishes he was a little bit taller, wishes he were a baller, etc. and can't stack up next to his cool guy friend. But is also a bit bummed the girl they hung out with a lot as kids drifted away come middle school. Mom sends you on an errand with the macguffin of a 10000-yen bill someone doodled on.

Mom gave it to you because she was too embarrassed to use it, MC feels the same, uses it as an offering at a shrine, starts wishing to be bigger and cooler and all that. Voice warns him he's being to greedy, makes this joke wish last. The lazy god of the shrine is funny, she tuned him out and only granted the last one because "that's usually the one from the heart." Now you're stuck as a girl until you can recover that specific doodled-upon bill. Which realistically means...you can roll with it or let modern medicine take over which I'm certain if acknowledged will only be briefly so as a last resort a la Boku Girl.

With only a few chapters, we're still not really past the first hurdles. But I do have a few signs of hope. Unlike a lot of these, our MC hasn't shown anything like a feminine personality, and I get the vibe this one will stick to the side of the genre that's like, walking him through normal struggles girls his age deal with. Which is a core component of why Ranma 1/2 was so successful. Though I doubt this one will have tea ceremony martial arts battles...which is a loss.

Every forsaken but Ishy is, to a lesser (Graendal) or greater (Balthamel) extent, a bozo. Their side is one dude who understands what he's fighting for and is actually committed to it, and twelve goobers who wish they were a little bit taller, wish they were a baller, wish they had a boy named Lews they call him.

As fantastic as the our first brush at Forsaken Office Drama is, my favorite line of the night has got to be "Because alone among the Chosen I actually believe in the Dark. I believe the only way to stop all this suffering is to stop the Wheel itself. Stop everything."

Because it goes back to one of those central extremely important themes of the series: the power of having the sincerity of your convictions. That's the reason Ishamael is the most dangerous of the Forsaken, because whatever else he is, he is a true believer, driven by an ideal. One that is abhorrent and fueled by despair, and yet a sincere ideal all the same.

I didn’t know we were rapping today.” Reggie smiles as he sits up and Ray laughs. “It’s a good song. We’re about two hours from home by the way.” “Sick. I miss Julie and the guys.” Ray looks over at Reggie. “Yeah. We would’ve been home by now if you hadn’t detoured into San Francisco.” Reggie puts his hands up in defense. “It was an accident! But you were able to get that sick picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.” Ray shrugs. “That’s true.”

The car gets quiet for a while with soft Lofi playing in the background and then there’s this new song that comes on. Reggie starts. “People talking crazy they saying I should quit.” Ray continues. “I’m feeling like the greatest on the beat whoever did it” Now it’s both of them together: “Mike WILL the one who made it, It’s shady on the lyrics” They stop for a second and look at each other in bewilderment. Ray talks first. “You like this song?” Reggie follows “You know this song?” Ray gives him a look. “Pfft. Heck yeah I know this song. I love Eminem!” Reggie nods his head “Much respect Ray.”
