it's been /checks my watch, 2 years since the first time i watched cql, and i'm still annoyed that lan wangji cuts off jin guangyao's arm after he's just demonstrably proven that he was never actually a threat to jin ling's life.
#literally what was the point of doing that#he was not the one wielding the giant angry resentful fuck you sword in that scene--wen ning was#jin guangyao shoves jin ling to safety the SECOND it becomes clear jin ling's life is in danger#jin guangyao was NOT the danger in that moment#salty peak sect 🧂

💀Chapter 5 💀
✨masterlist✨
Like a swarm of angry hornets, a legion of snarling beasts crawl from a hole at the apex of the geode. Their bodies were as black as obsidian, elongated, and muscular like dragons as they scaled the ceiling like insects. Giant shards of amethyst continue to plummet from above, giving Megan and the captain every reason to seek cover in the nearest tunnel.
Megan is first to duck inside while the captain lingers at the entrance and pulls a silver disc from one of the many deep pockets of his cargo-style pants.
She watched him run his finger over its center before tossing it towards the crater. It coasts through the air like a flying saucer, dodging falling crystals effectively on its way to the middle of the gaping hole. Once there, a series of lasers extended from it, forming a complex grid of red beams that hovered over the purple diamond.
A group of sentinels crawling down the walls stop midway and leap toward the hole, disregarding the device as their only concern was the tantalizing heartbeat of Purpura's core.
However, once their bodies met the barrier formed by the lasers, they screeched as the heat sliced through their tough hide like knives through butter, sending splatters of neon-yellow blood in all directions.
From the tunnel, Megan grimaced at the gore before her eyes cut to the captain. He takes hold of the gun still in his hand, cocking it back once more until the red notches glow brightly to life. He then turns it around and offers it to Megan without hesitation. Her eyes immediately go wide.
"Whatchu want me to do with that??" she exclaims and the captain rolls his eyes impatiently.
"What do you think? I'd give you a sword but I don't think you want them getting that close to you," he responds hurriedly. Megan's eyes go even wider.
"YOU EXPECTING ME TO SHOOT IT OUT WITH THOSE BIG MUFUCKAS?!" she exclaims, a high-pitched squeal ripping through her as a giant shard hitting the ground shakes the tunnel. The captain barely reacts to the tremor, shaking the weapon towards Megan more urgently.
"Please. Stop acting like you've never seen or used a gun. I've been to Luminasia. Just take it."
"The fuck is that supposed to mean?" Megan's expression deadened but the captain wasn't entertaining her any longer than he had to. Forcibly handing her the gun, the captain proceeds to attempt to make contact with anyone on his team via his watch.
"Agent in command to Bangtan, the nest has been breached. I repeat THE NEST HAS BEEN BREACHED."
The harrowing screams of sentinels continue to echo throughout the geode as more and more dislodged shards shatter against the ground.
"The core is secure for now but the disc's field isn't going to hold them off very long.."
The tunnel shakes again, this time from the overflow of sentinels entering the geode. Their cacophony of ravenous snarls and screams is almost deafening now, forcing the captain to yell. Megan could hear them through the walls of the tunnel and her heart rate quickens.
The gun in her hand vibrates as if in reaction to the impending danger, pulling her eyes toward the swirling red matter that glowed in its chamber. While a part of her may have resented the captain's remark about the people of Luminasia and their familiarity with certain weapons, Megan couldn't deny the power she felt holding what she immediately knew to be a plasma blaster, a cutting-edge weapon that harnesses the power of superheated plasma to unleash devastating energy blasts on its targets.
It consists of a sleek, metallic body with intricate circuitry and advanced cooling systems to handle the intense heat generated by the plasma, while also being compact enough to wield in one hand.
When fired, it unleashes a beam of searing plasma that can melt through armor, shields, and even solid structures with ease.
The weapon is highly versatile, capable of firing rapid bursts of plasma for close-range combat or charging up a powerful shot for long-range engagements, sure to reduce these snarling beasts to vapor off of one hit.
The plasma blaster is also equipped with advanced targeting systems and smart ammunition technology, allowing users to lock onto multiple targets simultaneously and adjust the intensity and spread of the plasma blasts as needed.
Megan wasn't sure how to make it do all of that but she might have fired off one or two (or more) in her lifetime at a range, never to defend herself against hungry aliens though.
"NEAREST EVACUATION POINT IS IN THE SOUTH TUNNEL OF THE CENTRAL STATION! WAIT FOR US THERE AND READY THE GAS FOR DEPLOYMENT IN T-MINUS 8 MINUTES!" the captain concludes before unholstering a blaster identical to the one he'd given to Megan seconds prior. He quickly activates it, the telltale red glow being its indicator.
He then looked back at Megan, noting the way she was now holding the weapon as if she were prepared to use it with a lightened look of approval in his gaze as he nodded.
"READY TO RUN?"
Megan nods back, placing both hands on the blaster's handle. If she was afraid, her expression didn't show it and the captain didn't have time to question her.
"GOOD! STAY CLOSE TO ME! WE'RE GETTING OUT OF HERE!"
From that point, everything felt like a dream. Well, more like a nightmare.
The second they emerged from the tunnel, the captain's focus honed in on three things; the southbound tunnel on the far side of the geode that would lead them to their evacuation point, the amount of tumbling shards and scrambling sentinels ahead, and Megan at his side. She kept his pace surprisingly well, following a few strides behind him and matching his every move as he used his weapon to clear a path for them.
The plasma blaster emits a sharp, crackling sound as it fires, resembling the sizzle of electricity combined with a powerful burst of energy. The sound is intense and high-pitched, with a distinct futuristic and otherworldly quality to it. With precision, the caption lands head and body shots on anything crawling on four legs toward them.
At his left, he's somewhat surprised to find Megan shooting along with him. She's not as accurate as him, naturally, but she still knocked back several moving targets as they sprinted towards their exit.
The captain pauses shooting to quickly tap at his wrist, transmitting a command to the silver disc hovering over the core. It responds by initiating a countdown on its panel to self-destruct.
The captain picked up his pace, sparing Megan a glance to make sure she was still behind him before going back to firing.
"KEEP MOVING!" he yells to her and the two manage to evade being impaled and attacked the entire way to the waiting tunnel.
They ducked inside just as the sudden and violent release of energy, accompanied by a loud noise, heat, and pressure, filled the geode and bathed the swarm of screeching sentinels that weren't grated by lasers in hellfire.
Once inside the narrow passage leading out of the geode and away from the flames, Megan flinched at the sound of a sentinel she hadn't realized was so close slamming into the tunnel's entrance. The heat from the explosion blew in her face, as well as the rancid breath of the beast inches from where she stood. Thankfully, its body is too big to fit anything more than its arm and thrashing head as it releases a feral snarl at her.
She looks back with wide eyes, panting in shock at the way the sentinel face was nothing but an exposed serpentine skull that led down to a scaled body that shimmered even in the dark tunnel. Its haunting head encases frighteningly bright red eyes, a long whip-like tongue, and jagged teeth designed for cracking diamonds. It wretched and wailed in agony as it squirmed, possibly being burned as it clawed the air in an attempt to reach her.
Megan is frozen, never having seen anything like it, at least up close, and it takes the captain pulling her away to remind her they are on borrowed time.
After rushing through the tunnel of packed dirt and exposed pipes, the two reach their end at a partially constructed portion of the subway's central station.
Overturned scaffolding and piles of building materials scattered the half-placed tiles beneath their feet, and an eery silence welcomed them as they paused to catch their breath. More so Megan, the captain barely breaking a sweat during the mad dash. He regards her similarly to how Yoongi did before, perking a brow as Megan stood wide-legged, one hand on her hip while the one holding the blaster dangles at her side.
Slick leather-bound curves kept the captain's gaze on her as he dusted his arms, observing the way her hips swayed as she began to pace slowly.
Even after shooting it out with sentinels, escaping an explosion by a hair, and trudging through dirt, she still managed to look unharmed. Even her slicked-back ponytail remained intact, not a hair out of place.
He was impressed.
When their eyes met, Megan's brow knitted at the way the captain was looking at her blankly. If it weren't for that damned mask, she would at least be able to read his expression beyond his enigmatic gaze.
"What?" she mutters breathlessly. The captain blinks, immediately shaking his head.
"Nothing. I just knew you would know how to use that though. Good job.." he jokes while gesturing towards the plasma blaster in her hand, earning a cursed glare from Megan that makes him laugh. The sound is charming and youthful.
"Whatever..." she makes a playfully resentful face at him, huffing air into her lungs. She wasn't doubled over like the last time she had to run for her life, most likely due to the peaking adrenaline, but the burn in her chest was no less agitating as she spoke.
"So..that explosion. You don't seem too worried about the core.." she exhales, the captain getting the gist of her fragmented statement.
"That explosion wouldn't even put a scratch on it. Heat has little effect on a stone that is almost as hot as the nearest star. It would take well over 100 times more force for something that dense."
"But those things are strong enough to hurt it?" she stops pacing. The captain nods.
"Not a handful of them but a swarm like that definitely could. Their strength is in numbers."
Megan nodded in understanding, turning her head to observe the tunnel they'd just come from with a deep sigh.
"So..What now? We're safe?" she poses the question after a beat and the captain shakes his head again gravely.
"Not until we've reached the end of the south tunnel. I don't expect that blast to have taken out all of them. More will come. As I said, their strength is in numbers. So until we deploy the gas.." he pauses and Megan nods in understanding as she completes the thought.
"No one's safe. Got it. So which way to the.."
Her question is cut off just as the echoed roars and grossly familiar sound of heavy stomps shake the walls of the central station. Both of their heads go on a swivel, the captain lifting his weapon reflexively.
It starts from the east and then rumbles from the west, letting both of them know that the sound is coming from both sides.
They were surrounded.
"Shit! Here!" the captain whispers harshly to Megan before tossing her the blaster in his hand, now arming her with two. As expected, her eyes nearly pop out of her head.
"Wait.." she exhales in shock, but it's barely audible as the captain does a quick sweep of the area with keen eyes. He turns back to Megan, tilting his chin in the direction of an arched entrance several yards behind her.
"The south tunnel is 100 feet to your left but they're obviously coming from that way on both sides. We won't get there without being spotted so our only option is to run through them if we want to get out of here before the gas deploys."
Shortly after saying that, he reaches up to draw both long thick blades that were sheathed in an X behind his back. His knuckles rolled as he tightened his grasp on the handles, rotating them in preparation. The blades cut through the air with a swift whoosh, a testament to how sharp they must have been.
As if they were already onto them, the volume of the lurking creatures crescendo, making Megan flinch as her head whips in the direction of the sound.
For the first time since meeting her, fear colored her expression and something about it made the captain hypervigilant as he stepped towards her. He turns his body so that he's facing the mounting sound of heavy feet and hungry growls, keeping her in his peripheral.
"Hey.." he calls to her over his shoulder and Megan locks eyes with him, visibly afraid but alert.
"It'll be fine as long as you stay close to me," he utters all too calmly just as the first few sentinels round the corner. Sniffing the air and licking at their fleshless snouts, their hulking black bodies are damn near masked by the shadows. They're mostly given away by their haunting skulls for faces and glowing eyes.
Stalking forward and growling from deep in their guts, sentinels creep into the central station from the darkness, honing in on the two heated figures standing in the center.
The captain moves cautiously, still inching closer to where Megan stood frozen. Their backs touch and he can feel her trembling through his uniform.
"If you can, tell me how many you see on your side.." the captain nudged her gently to ensure she'd heard him. Megan hums in acknowledgment, her shaking hands tightening their grip on the two blasters in her grasp. She inhaled deeply, closing her eyes for only a second as she exhaled.
"Ok Megan, tighten up. You've faced scarier shit than this. This ain't the time to be shaking in yo mufuckn boots bitch!" her inner voice chastised her. With every careful breath, Megan felt the fear dissipate from her body slowly and her head lowered a fraction to do as the captain said. She counts them silently, mouthing each number as her sharpened gaze passes over each skeletal head growing bigger in the distance.
"5.." she exhales and the captain shifts his stance behind her, his swords cutting another windmill through the air.
"And 6 for me so 11 in total. Cool." He mutters, shuffling closer to her. Megan might not have realized it until then but when the captain moved, she followed and the two gradually shuffled towards the platform leading to their evacuation point. As they did, several of the hungry growls and hissing surrounding them grew louder as the sentinels closed in.
One of the beasts was now close enough for Megan to see a line of drool stretching from its permanently bared teeth.
Stealing one more look over his shoulder towards the tunnel, the captain steps around so that Megan is facing it more than he is, essentially placing himself between her and the sentinels.
He slides his foot back to lower his stance, locking eyes with a large-bodied opposer as it growled at him menacingly. The captain notes patches of charred flesh on the beast's arms and back, allowing him to assume it had barely made it out of the geode explosion unscathed.
Hence why it seemed so pissed.
The captain clenches his jaw beneath as he slowly lifts his wrist towards his other hand, tapping it to contact the ship.
"Captain speaking. We are near the south tunnel and currently surrounded by sentinels in the central station. What's the status of the evac portal?" He requests calmly, never taking his eyes off the growling sentinel leading the charge.
"We are approaching the southern entrance, Cap. Dropping portal in 60 seconds.."
Hoping for that ETA to be a few seconds sooner, that captain hisses his frustration.
"Heard..." he clenches his jaw, rolling one shoulder in preparation. Another threatening snarl pushed the captain back in ready mode.
"They're reactive, meaning they will immediately chase us if we run. So when I tell you to move, I want you to run as fast as you can towards that tunnel. I'll be right behind you. And be ready to use those. We have about 45 seconds. We make a move on my count, ok?" " he tacks on and Megan mutters her response of understanding.
"1.." the captain nearly whispers, sliding his foot back. His blades cut through the air again in a synced whoosh that offended the beasts, provoking them to snarl each time they fanned through the air in circles.
"...2..."
Megan lifts her arms, flexing her wingspan with a blaster aimed to the left and right, her back parallel to the captain's.
Whether she noticed it or not, with each backward step he took, Megan was shuffling forward. It was as if he was guiding her closer to where they needed to be while both keeping their attention on the threats.
Her breathing quickened the closer the sentinels became, her grip on her weapons tightening.
"...3.."
Heartbeat thumping in her ears, Megan had barely registered the captain's firm 'GO' before everything around her leaped into motion. Heavy feet trample toward them the second she lifts her foot to run and the captain's blades slice through the air in defense, wounding the first of the hoard bold enough to charge him.
He moves backward with agility, keeping up with Megan as she moves, utilizing the blasters in both hands to fend off snarling beasts that approach from the side, a few coming around to block the entrance of the south tunnel.
"No!"Megan yelps when one of them lurches forward, its jaw snapping at her wildly, forcing her back to collide with the captain. They share a look, locking eyes for a millisecond that felt much longer before she felt a strong arm wrap around her waist, whirling her around while he sliced through the sentinel's throat with one fell swoop with his blade. Since he was distracted handling Megan's aggressor, his opponents were rapidly advancing, and Megan immediately landed several kill shots with the plasma blasters in each hand. They were a dream team, acting as the planet's sole defense as more and more sentinels emerged from the shadows to close in on them.
The captain sets her down swiftly but their backs remain pressed together, him swinging his swords effortlessly and her shooting down one sentinel after another with a determined and sinister smirk on her alien blood-splattered face. The slain few twitched on the ground under the feet of others leaping over them. A few hesitated to keep attacking, having greatly underestimated this Borasian and his unexpected ally. Little by little, they made their way to the mouth of the tunnel but with too many pressing them.
"Shit! I..I don't think we can hold them off much longer!" Megan yelled over the captain's shoulder but he was already ahead of her. After driving his sword through a sputtering sentinel and withdrawing it forcefully, he uses his free hand to tap over the communication device on his wrist.
"JIN, GET US OUT OF HERE NOW" he barks.
Just then, a massive vessel zooms through the indigo sky, coming to a stop to hover over the metro's southern quadrant.
"Beam descending in 20 seconds. Haul ass, Cap!"
The response in his ear is registered just as a shrill shriek has him turning his head sharply to spot Megan being accosted by a sentinel, roaring viciously as it forces her back against the stone wall adjacent to the tunnel's Despite it knocking a blaster from her hand, she's able to use her forearm at it's throat to keep it from biting her. Thick saliva drips over Megan as she grits her teeth and turns her head while the monster gnashes and growls at her, inching closer to her face by the second.
Suddenly, a flash and vaporized blood splatter later and the sentinel's weight vanishes from Megan's arm as its headless body drops to the ground.
She barely had a second to blink before the captain, who was now wielding the weapon, rushed towards her.
"LETS GO!!" he commands, grabbing Megan by the hand and sprinting down the tunnel. She keeps up with him as they venture towards a growing beam of blue light that drops from a hole in the tunnel's ceiling. From behind them, several growls of fury and clambering footsteps follow closely in the shadows. At the sound, Megan attempts a look back but is thwarted by a sharp squeeze on her hand.
"Don't look back! Keep moving!" he yells and Megan does just that until they reach the beam. Once underneath it, the captain hands Megan her weapon and secures his arm around her waist, pressing her lush against his hard body.
"oop.." Megan mutters under her breath, oddly impressed by the hidden muscle underneath the captain's uniform.
"Hold on to me." he gruffs and just as wrapped her arms around him, as well as the very moment the hoard of sentinels reached them, they immediately teleported out of the tunnels in a blinding flash of white light.
