Suffer The Little Children
"Alastor finds a secret of heaven's Lucifer willing hides and learns how cruel judgment can be."
Fandom: Hazbin Hotel
CW: hints of child abuse and existential dread
Hi, everyone! This is a work I've been stewing on thanks to talks with my friends on Corona After Dark and a few others in our discord server.
Please don't stress yourself out if the subject matter is too heavy. Otherwise, enjoy!
“You betcha, Kiddo!” Lucifer chirped as they made their way through the massive amusement park.
***
***
***
“Oh, my gosh!” Charlie nearly shrieked. “This is going to be so much fun!”
“Hm….a little garish and over the top….” Alastor chided. “So, very fitting of your taste, your majesty.”
Lucifer gave the deer sinner a flat glare.
“…fuck off.”
“Dad!”
There was a little beep from Lucifer’s phone and his face fell.
He held up a finger, making Charlie pause her lecture.
“Oh…hey, have something I need to take care of.” He said softly. “You guys go have fun! I’ll catch up later!”
Alastor noticed the tightness of the king’s smile, a brow rising just a fraction in curiosity.
“Okay, Dad... Oh! Angel, Niffty! Wait!” Charlie shouted as the two sinners ran off in opposite directions.
Alastor waited until the others had run off, then melted into the shadows, trying to locate the king of Hell. He went down many twists and turns and slipped under the cracks of many a sealed doors to find the king.
And so he did, in a darkened room, floor to ceiling shelves lined with files and binders making up the walls, a single armchair and end table facing a wall with a window taking up the top half.
He was talking softly to a clown looking sinner with two hair poofs that resembled purple cotton candy, her tan skin littered with little pale pink hearts under her eyes and matching painted lips, both whispering softly.
Lucifer nodded and gave her a tiny little chocolate drop shaped like a duck. He whispered back to her and she nodded and shuffled off, bright blue poof dress bouncing as she rushed off.
Lucifer turned to the large bay window, looking very troubled.
Alastor materialized behind him and was about to say something snarky when he heard it…
Laughter…
Children’s laughter, to be precise.
He looked over the king’s shoulder to see a huge almost endless smaller park.
“What the fuck—”
“Ah!” Lucifer nearly leaped a foot in the air.
Alastor paid no mind to the flailing angel.
“Gah! You creepy fuck!” Lucifer hissed. “What are you doing here?!”
Alastor instead walked around him to look out the window.
Children…
Thousands of children from teens...to infants being rocked by several nurses dressed as dolls or clowns or even old nursemaids.
“What is this?” Alastor asked, an ear flicking with distress.
“Alastor…please don’t tell Charlie…” Lucifer pleaded.
He looked away from Alastor and sighed.
Looking out the window, he watched the children eat and play and run around screaming excitedly.
“…why are they…”
“In hell? Good question…I tried to find out but…hell is forever or whatever bullshit they peddle…” Lucifer said. “They started appearing not too long after we started getting regular sinners. Just…fell like little shooting stars…and with the stupidest tags and files…”
"Fell?!" Alastor asked, recalling his own violent entrance to hell. He couldn't imagine an infant...
Lucifer extended his wings, answering Alastor and calming him slightly.
He motioned to the window, Alastor looking where Lucifer dragged his finger on the glass. He pointed at a little boy playing with a sparkler by a few shimmering puddles of clear water.
“Jason. Accidently set his house on fire. Tagged with arson and murder since he was the one playing with the candle that took him and the babysitter.”
Lucifer then pointed to a teen girl laying in a patch of pretty orange poppy flowers and talking to a toddler who was dozing off on the older girl’s stomach. Alastor's ears lowered seeing the older girl rubbing the younger's back, as if experienced with small children.
“Yali, committed suicide at fifteen. But little Carolina attached to her. The tot threw a massive fit that distracted her mother from the road…” Lucifer sighed. “And the babies…”
A droplet of golden blood traveled from his bottom lip where a too sharp tooth dug in.
“Well…I’m sure you could imagine the stupid reason…”
Alastor’s eyes widened a fraction.
“Unbaptized?” He asked.
Lucifer’s silence spoke volumes.
“Why aren’t there more?” Alastor asked. “If the reasons are so petty?”
“There was a reform concerning children in heaven a few centuries back…these are the ones who slipped through the cracks…”
“So this is one of heaven’s dirty little secrets?”
Lucifer let out a flat chuckle.
“More like their biggest fuck up…and heaven doesn’t fuck up. As far as they want everyone else to know, these souls don’t exist…so I keep them here…safe to live the best day ever again and again…”
Alastor’s neck cracked as he turned to the king.
“Parton?”
Lucifer took a deep breath and stared at them.
“You wipe their memories…” Alastor whispered. “To keep them from...getting bored?”
“If they get bored, they get curious and venture outside and…” Lucifer took off his hat, holding it to his chest.
Alastor took a step closer to the window.
“They were out during the exterminations?”
“Some of the elder ones of their own choice…” Lucifer said softly.
“So you keep them in a cage to never do anything. Just relive the same day over and over?” He growled softly, static buzzibg around him.
Lucifer whirled on him, thin whip like tail lashing from side to side and horns ripping through his temples.
"What happens to a child who cannot grow?” He snarled at the sinner, taking a step forward. “What happens to a six year old who forever has the body of a six year old?”
Fire flowed from the king of hell’s mouth.
“Tell me, Alastor!” He roared, the flames causing Alastor’s hair and coat to singe.
“I get it.” He snarled back, but none of the venom aimed at the fallen angel.
“I don’t think you do. I tried to keep them safe, but they would wander out and older sinners…” Lucifer turned away, scrubbing at his eyes with a tightly clentched fist.
Alastor looked out the children in their blissful ignorance.
Today would be the best day ever…
And it would repeat...over and over and over again for all eternity.
“Suffer the little children…” Alastor muttered. “How woefully ironic the king of hell would understand that more than Heaven…”
“Only one new soul in the last hundred years…” Lucifer said. “So they’re improving…”
Alastor saw the clown like sinner sitting with a dazed looking ten year old boy. She gave him the chocolate, and he rubbed his eyes before gasping and looking around in wonder.
She called over a group of children, who excitedly took the boy into their group, rushing off to a massive carousel.
Alastor glanced at Lucifer, noting how tired and dark his eyes were.
“I won't tell Charlie…" Alastor promised. "This could break the poor girl…”
Lucifer let out thankful huff.
“…One day however…maybe they will only remember falling…and an angel catching them and letting them play before his daughter reunites them with their families…” Alastor hummed. “Or some other sentimental drivel…”
Lucifer gave a small exhausted smile as they both looked through the window in that darkened room.
Listening to the joyful screams and laughter.

Evil Author Day #1
February 15th is Evil Author Day - you can read more about it on Jilly James' site, but in short it's about posting titles or descriptions or parts of stuff that's not actually ready for posting, the evil part being that there are no promises what so ever that there will be more.
What I'm posting under the EAD-tag either isn't finished and might never be, or it could be considered finished only I'm not happy with it.
Either way: Enjoy. Or not.
AN: Takes place during New Moon, sort of, just after Bella’s graduation. It’s a reality where Bella never confronted Jacob(?) and Jacob never tried to make her understand.
Jacob phases for the first time in February (2006) and Bella graduates June 11th.
When Jake phases Bella and Quil connect. They grow closer and closer, and end up dating – Bella’s scared to let him in, but even more scared not to. After all, Jake wanted more and when she didn’t give it to him he disappeared. Couldn’t the same happen with Quil?
She gives him everything he wants, including sex – all for the same reason, to make him stay.
Then one day he’s gone.
The Beast You've Made
It wasn’t until the phone rang that Bella noticed how late it had become. She’d attributed the darkness to her pain, knowing she had more or less blacked out again, but in reality it was dusk. Slowly she walked over to the phone, already knowing it wasn’t him.
“Bells, honey? Everything okay?” Charlie.
“Yeah, just a bit preoccupied. Did you want something special?”
“I’m going to be a bit late home tonight, that okay with you?”
She wanted to scream “no”, but instead gave him the answer he expected and told him she’d be fine, and that there would be a plate in the fridge for him. Acting normal.
She could hear the smile in his voice when he told her not to stay up too long, tomorrow being a school day, and to drive carefully if she took my truck out.
His parting words, “you kids behave now”, felt like a blow to the face. Bella was glad that he hung up right after, since she would have been unable to provide him with a convincing reply. Instead she sat down, practically collapsing onto the floor. There was no reason for her to drive anywhere. There was no one there for her to misbehave with. There would not be anyone there for her again. Her boyfriend had left her. Bella was alone.
And all she could think was that it was her own fault for being stupid enough to trust in love again, stupid enough to let Quil Ateara into her life and her heart.
They’d been dating for three months now, and this Saturday was to have been a lazy, comfy day starting with lunch and ending... Happily. Instead it was Quil and her that had ended. Oh, he hadn’t broken up with her, had in fact not talked to her at all. He just hadn’t showed up, and was now more than five hours late. Bella knew though. It was over.
A normal girl would start wondering what had happened to her boyfriend, but she didn’t bother. There was no need. She knew.
It wasn’t the fact that he’d never been more than five minutes late – that, in fact, he was usually early – that told her this. No. It was intuition, and the fact that this had, after all, happened to her before. She was willing to bet every cent still residing in her meager college account that Quil was now as far out of her reach as if he’d moved to the moon.
Bella’d had enough. She had lost, again and again, and even though she’d been patched together after every break she had come out of it another person. Less. The thought of how much less she’d be this time wasn’t something she was willing to entertain. Was there anything left to be saved of Bella Swan?
She got up, and started moving around, following patterns, routines, acting like a robot. Zombie, a voice Bella couldn’t identify as her own echoed in her head, and she knew that it was where she was heading.
“Not again,” she whispered. “Not ever again.”
Straightening her back and focusing her mind on one thing, and one thing only, she grabbed the phone and the phone book. Less than a minute later it was ringing at the other end.
A girl answered, and Bella was shocked into silence. A girl? Wasn’t that just... so damn hypocritical?
“Hello?”
She steeled herself.
“Tell Sam congratulations. Game over, he wins.”
As she hung up she heard her trying to ask who it was. She didn’t care. She didn’t have it in her any longer. Instead she walked out of the kitchen, only to return and take the phone off the hook, before going up the stairs.
~*~*~*~
When Sam felt another wolf phase and touched Paul’s mind he was only mildly surprised. Yes, Paul wasn’t due for patrol yet for a couple of hours, but then he’d never been one to phase according to schedule. Even the newest members of the pack had more control than Paul – his temper ruled him, not the other way around, meaning he spent more time phased than not.
Then he felt Paul's anxiety, followed by a frantic “call”.
“Sam, you there?” He didn’t wait for Sam to ask, or even acknowledge him. “You need to get home, now. Emily’s been calling all of us, and she sounded really freaked. Man, I could practically smell her panic over the phone.”
Sam was running full speed, having turned towards the house before Paul had gotten even halfway through his message. Paul was taking over the rest of the patrol, but Sam didn’t even have it in him to think about it. He was worried. Emily had never done something like that before, and that meant something was very wrong. The thought that he knew what it was chilled him – Harry Clearwater had been having heart problems for a while now, and Sam was terrified that Emily’s emergency would be his death. He didn’t know if he’d be able to deal with that. Harry’s problems were partly his fault, after all. He carried the burden of his daughter’s pain, after Sam’d broken her heart, a burden that was doubled by the fact that Harry knew exactly why he’d left her – but couldn’t tell her. There was also the additional worry brought on by the knowledge that the Clearwaters carried the same gene that Sam did, making his son Seth a potential member of the pack.
He phased, still running, and burst through the door without bothering to stop and get dressed. Emily was sitting by the kitchen table, looking troubled, and for once Sam's own problems didn’t lessen just by being in her presence.
“What’s wrong? Is it Harry?”
“No. It’s... There was a call for you.” He didn’t understand. What had unsettled her so about a simple call? “It was a girl. I think... I think it was Bella Swan.”
“What?” Sam was floored. Why in the name of all that was holy would Bella Swan call him? Yes, he’d been the one to find her in the forest all those months ago, but since then they’d had no contact. She blamed him, rightfully, for Jake no longer being in her life. The things he’d told her before phasing ensured that. So why?
“Yeah. She just said to congratulate you. That you’d won. I’m guessing she knows about Quil.”
That would be Sam's guess as well, even though he still had a hard time understanding why she’d called here. Bella wasn’t confrontational, this much he knew from Jake’s memories, so why? He’d expected her to try contact Quil, of course, when he failed to appear for their date, to call him or come down to the reservation. He’d even stationed Jared with him for just that possibility. But she hadn’t done either, or had she?
“There’s more.” Emily’s voice shook him from his thoughts. “The way she sounded... There was something in her voice, Sam, something dark and empty. I don’t think she’s taking it well. In fact, she just might have broken beyond all repair this time. I... Sam, I think you’re wrong to do this. Really, really wrong.”
Emily had been angry with him for a long time for the way he had hurt Leah, and part of her had never really forgiven him (or herself) for it. This however... Sam’d never seen her like this, and he sure as hell had never heard that tone before. He just stared at her.
“Sam! That girl has been through too much, and you just took away the only thing that she had left. Now, get someone over there to check up on her, at once. Because if you don’t? The way she sounded tells me that otherwise there just might not be a Bella Swan around tomorrow.”
The venom in her voice shocked Sam as did her words. His beloved Emily was furious, and with him. Could she be right? Could loosing Quil really have pushed Bella Swan that far?
“Go! And God help you, Sam, if you come back here and tell me that girl is dead. Because if she is, then you killed her – and I don’t know if I can live with you then.”
Hearing Emily threatening him like that was physically painful – because Sam could tell she meant it. He looked at her for a few seconds longer, silently begging her to take it back only to be met with a hard glare. He ran back out and phased without stopping. As soon as his paws hit the ground he ran all out towards Forks and Charlie Swan’s house.
As Sam felt the others he closed his mind as best he could. Jake had phased now, as had Embry, and Sam didn’t want him to know what might be going on. He had no time to deal with him now.
“Jake. Phase back, now, and relieve Jared. Tell him to phase immediately and join us. Now!” Sam enforced the order with every bit of power he had, and only felt Jake's surprise for a second before he faded out. The others’ surprise, however, remained.
Not for long though, as Sam lost the fight to control his thoughts. Their emotions echoed through him, and he felt Embry push himself to the limit while fighting the panic. Bella was perhaps the most important thing in the world to his two best friends, and he knew that if something were to happen to her neither of them would recover.
Even Paul worried. His derogatory thoughts about “the leech lover” had had Quil and Jake both ready to tear him to pieces – yet still he worried. He might not like the girl, or rather her association with the Cullens, but he had too much honor to wish her dead. The thought that she might die because of them, they who were meant to protect... Yeah. Not even at his worst Paul was willing to have that on his head.
Then again, it wouldn’t be on his head, now would it? It would be all on Sam's. And so he ran. As if his life depended on it – knowing it just might. Emily thought Bella Swan might try and kill herself because of what he had done. He had been the one to take Jake from her, and then, only a few hours ago, he had done the same with Quil. His intentions had been good, but.
If she tried to harm herself now it would be on him.
He was supposed to be a protector – the thought of causing an innocent human being's death was almost crippling. He didn’t want to know what the reality of it would do. On top of that there was Emily, his beloved imprint. Loosing her would cripple him, might even kill him, and she’d practically promised to leave should Bella die because of him.
And then, of course, there was the very real risk of either Jake or Quil killing him, should anything happen to their beloved Bella. Realistically Quil wasn’t that much of a threat – if push came to shove Sam could always order him to stand down, but Jake... There was no way Sam’d be able to control Jacob Black in that particular worst case scenario.
Jake’s love for Bella nearly rivaled an imprint. He’d refused to step up as Alpha so far, but for this? He wouldn’t hesitate to claim his birthright for a second if it meant avenging Bella. After all, the only reason he hadn’t done so already just to override Sam's orders and be with her was the very real issue of her safety.
He ran even harder.
The Swan house was dark and neither Bella’s truck nor Charlie’s cruiser was in place. Sam still phased back and let myself in with the (supposedly) hidden spare key in order to search the house.
Bella’s scent was still strong, among the fading aroma of what must have been a very nice meal. There was cake on the counter, burnt-out candles on the table and dvd:s on the living room table. Everything reminded him of the date Quil hadn’t shown up for. No signs of Bella, or clues to her whereabouts.
When Sam phased back he was met by anticipation. Jake was guarding Quil now, but the others were phased and ready for whatever their Alpha might need.
“No sign of her. Any ideas where she might be?”
“There’s that meadow where we found her with the leach,” Jared offered, and they all shared the sudden flashback. A nod, and he was off.
Embry offered to search First Beach and the cliffs, leaving Sam with Paul and not a fucking idea. Except there seemed to be something forming in Paul’s mind.
“What?”
“It might be nothing, but... I think I should check out the leaches’ place.”
It made sense, in a twisted way. Bella had thought of the Cullens as a second family. The people at the rez might have seen their departure as cause for celebration, but for her it had been the start of her downwards spiral.
She had been happy at that house, had believed herself safe there. It wasn’t really that crazy to think she might have returned there now – not when Sam had ripped every last remaining shred of happiness from her.
“Snap out of it, Sam.” Paul had already left, sensing the agreement and deciding not to wait for Sam to regain his focus. Smart move.
Sam was out of ideas, but he simply couldn’t do nothing, and so he ran patrol. The others would soon check in. Maybe the spirits would be benevolent and one of them would have news.
“Sam?” Embry. “No sign of her here, and I can’t pick up her scent either. Do you have somewhere else in mind for me? If not, I’ll head over to Emily’s.”
“Do that.”
The meadow was a bust too, and Sam's heart sank. He was a dead man.
“Sam!”
His head snapped up. Paul. He’d almost forgotten about him – and how that was even possible he didn’t want to think about – but now everything Sam had was focused on him. It sounded like Paul had news, and again Sam started praying.
How ironic, his brain supplied. Paul of all people being the one to succeed? Be– And he ripped my thoughts into order. He needed to focus, not get ahead of myself.
“Yes? Did you find anything?”
And then he was hit by the smell of Bella Swan, as it filled Paul’s nose. She was there!
“I’m on my way!”
“Sam, I’m not sure... There’s something off here...” And Paul disappeared, phasing out. Sam could understand him, even after being empty for months the Cullen house would reek – assaulting his sensitive nose in a way that was physically painful. It would be easier, even if not by much, to stand the smell and to investigate in human form.
Arriving Sam longed to phase myself, but instead he took the time to sniff out as much as he could. Bella had been here, of that he was certain, and not long ago. Her truck was still here, which meant that even if Sam couldn’t detect her presence it was possible that she was either in the house or somewhere near.
He walked up to the house on two legs, nose twitching and blood pounding in his ears. There was glass on the porch, and a large hole in one of the windows. He didn’t know why, but obviously it had made it easy for Paul to enter. Sam followed him.
Once inside he was hit by a rusty smell that made my stomach turn. Blood. Was that what Paul had meant about something being off? Sam inhaled deeply, steeling himself against the bleach. There was no signs of any living beings in the house, except for Paul, and Sam couldn’t smell any humans other than Bella.
Did that make it her blood?
If it was, then where was Bella? “No living beings in the house” he’d thought – but that didn’t rule out her being here.
“Sam.”
“What have you found?”
Paul was on edge, Sam could tell, both from the situation and the location, but he held himself together just fine anyway. He was doing much better that Sam, and Sam found himself leaning on that. He was Alpha. Paul was only third – yet right then he was running the show, and Sam was letting him.
“There’s blood, Bella’s blood. Some on the window – I’m assuming that’s where she entered, it was broken and open when I came here – as well as just inside it. Not much, probably just from the broken glass.”
He relaxed a little.
“But Sam, there’s more. I could smell it, smell her, so I looked around. She was in the bathroom over there,” he gestured, “and there... I think she washed it down, but she bled in there. A lot. And there was someone else here, a second car – I couldn’t pick up a scent, but whoever it was must have taken Bella with them.”
“I think– We should be looking at the hospital.”
Sam swallowed. The hospital. If Paul thought she’d gone there, knowing what we all did about Bella’s reluctance to it, then he had a good reason. Only, “good” wasn’t exactly the right word.
“Okay, we should–”
The howl was desperate and panicked, and ripped through their souls. They both phased without thinking and were met by a frantic Embry.
“Harry, Harry Clearwater, he’s dead... And–”
It just got worse from there.

I’m so excited your requests are open!!! Can I request a blurb of rough sex with Charlie where he throws around and manhandles his girlfriend (it’s all safe and consensual). I just know he’s a bit burly dude who would have no problem picking up his girlfriend with one arm
Watch Your Mouth
C.W. x FEM!READER
17+ IF YOU ARE TAGGED AND DON’T WANT TO BE TAGGED IN SMUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW
warnings: smut, oral (female receiving), vaginal penetration, manhandling, size kink, tummy bulge, praise kink, sub!reader/dom!Charlie, mentions of edging, spanking, overstimulation, UNPROTECTED SEX (wrap it before you tap it), kind of subspace (nothing too intense), also unedited because i am lazy ✋🏻😔
“But it hurts.” You whined into your boyfriend's ear.
Subtlety was fading fast in your act, after Charlie spent all night last night teasing you with the idea of an orgasm but never actually letting you get there you were far past the point of just horny.
Charlie placed a warning hand on your thigh, fingers gripping the flesh tight enough to have you squirming, “Eat your food and behave.”
His tone was husky, whispers harsh as he tried to keep you at bay in front of his family. Perhaps dinner at the Weasley’s- a usual Friday event- wasn’t the best place to start acting up but really it was Charlie’s fault. He had to have known his teasing would result in something of this sort.
You also knew his hand could be heavy when he wanted it to be, spanks from Charlie always left a mark that could be felt for days following. So you listened to him, quietly picking at your roast as your mind wandered to what might be in store for you once you two got home.
“Yeah, better get going, it’s getting rather late.” Charlie announced as he stood up from the couch, your hand in his.
You had to restrain from vibrating with excitement as you stood up next to Charlie, your head barely reaching his broad shoulders.
Everyone bid farewell to you two, a longer exchange than you would’ve liked but you managed. Finally Charlie pulled you into his side, tucking you under his arm as he appareled you two to your flat- after the war he wanted to move closer to his family and you had no complaints.
Leaning on the hardwood floor of your living room, you stumbled a bit only to be grabbed by Charlie. His arm wrapping around your waist to lift you up and off your feet, carrying you to the bedroom. He grunted through the doorframe, making sure he wasn’t going to hit your head on the wall as he passed through before tossing you onto the bed. Upon hitting the mattress your body bounced roughly, only adding fuel to the fire of your excitement.
Charlie pulled his boots off hastily, hands moving to unbutton his shirt and fling it somewhere in the room to be retrieved later for you to wear. In just a pair of tight black boxer briefs and a single silver chain dangling between his pecs, a dragon tooth at the end.
You watched him with wide eyes, breath hitching as he grabbed your hips and flipped you over with ease. His palm, open and heavy, rested on your plump backside. You panicked, trying to turn around to face him, because you knew what that meant but you thought you had been a good girl.
“But I was good.” You whined trying to move your butt away from him.
He tutted, pulling your hips back to where they were, “You were good...after I had to tell you to behave, and now you’re questioning me.”
“Because I was good. If you hadn’t been mean, not letting me cum, then I wouldn’t have been so needy. S’your fault.”
The silence was deafening and you realized you should’ve kept your mouth shut.
“My fault?” Charlie questioned, his voice unnervingly calm.
You shook your head quickly, trying to back track as best you could, “No, no no, I didn’t- I’m sorry, I’m your good girl, I’m sorry.”
He shook his head, “My good girl wouldn’t blame me for her being a horny slag. My good girl wouldn’t question my authority. My good girl would take her punishment, but no. You just had to open your mouth, didn’t you?”
Charlie didn’t give you a chance to respond, instead grabbing the material of your tights and quite literally tearing them apart, exposing your g-string and soaking cunt. He continued to rip and tear your tights until whatever was left didn’t have enough structure to stay on, he picked up the pieces and tossed them to the floor before roughly tugging your shirt and bra off.
There was a moment of silence again, as Charlie adjusted the rings on his fingers. You barely allowed yourself to calm down before he was sitting on the edge of the bed, grabbing you by the waist to roughly pull you across his lap. The action made you squeal, your legs kicking up in an attempt to stall the punishment that was coming. He wasn’t having it, forcing your legs under his thick thigh to keep them out of the way before playing with the thin string that made up the back of your thong. You let out a muffled whine as he pulled on it, lifting it up and making the front of your panties rub against your throbbing clit then letting it go, snapping it against your skin.
“Only thing I wanna hear out of your mouth are apologies after every swat. Understood?” He asked, hand running across the globes of your ass.
You nodded, not wanting to anger him further.
“So you do know how to watch your fucking mouth, good.”
You had little time to prepare before his hand came down onto your backside with a painful sting sending pools of arousal straight to your core.
“I’m sorry, Charlie.”
Another swat hit your warm flesh, then another, and another. With each slap apologies fell passed your lips along with muffled cries, fat tears rolling down your cheeks.
Forty spanks later your butt was beet red and practically numb, his ring clad hand massaging the raw skin making you whimper. He dipped his hand down to your core, running two fingers up your slit collecting your juices before teasing your entrance making you jolt. His other arm came down to keep you still as his fingers entered you, making your walls clench. You bit your lip, trying to suppress the moans as he started to thrust his fingers in and out of you at a steady pace, alternating between fast thrusts and massaging the spongey spot that made your vision go fuzzy.
You gripped his calf tightly as your orgasm neared, your legs started shaking and you could only hope he’d let you finally get off. Only you weren’t so lucky, Charlie pulled his hand away quickly watching as you writhed around in his lap.
“You wanna cum? I’ll make you cum until you’re begging me to stop.”
His hand dove back in between your legs, this time with an unbelievably fast pace making you let out loud, wanton cries. Charlie’s arm pressed down on your hips firmly, giving you no wiggle room as your toes curled and eyes screwed shut, orgasm hitting you like a ton of bricks.
You were shoved onto the bed as you heaved, Charlie having no trouble moving your from place to place without your cooperation. He got down on his knees, eye level with your pussy clenching pathetically around nothing.
Making sure you were still sensitive from your first climax, he was quick to dive into your weeping cunt. Tongue lapping at your glistening folds and nose nudging your clit, your twitching was uncontrollable as he was relentless with his mouth. Your hands tangled themselves in his deliciously wavy red mane as his copper beard rubbed the insides of your thighs raw.
You were unable to form coherent sentences, choked cries, waterlogged moans, and desperate pleas were the only things leaving your lips. Charlie gripped your thighs tightly, keeping them open after they had started to close around his head. You came again, loud sobs sounding through the room as he continued his torturous lapping at your cunt only to pull away seconds after your second orgasm hit you to aggressively rub at your clit.
“Go on, cum, you were begging for this.”
The back and forth motion only got faster as you tried to close your thighs and push his hand away, a third orgasm washing over you before you could even realize. Charlie pulled his hand away after giving your clit a harsh slap making you cry out again.
Charlie took his time peeling off his briefs, his prick taut against his abdomen with precum leaking from the mouth watering tip. He had always had a rather gorgeous cock, the lively red of the spongey head contrasting the creamy beige of the shaft had you clenching your legs in need. You’d never say no to that no matter how worn out or sensitive you were, he was just far too beautiful. But the sheer size alone had excited nerves mixing in your belly, regardless of how often you’ve seen him nude. His tip was dangerously close to his navel, and not only was he gifted with length but his veiny cock was girthy- never failing to stretch your aching pussy out just how you liked it.
You watched as his hand gave a few languid strokes to himself before your eyes traveled over the expanse of his torso. His skin was dappled with countless freckles and a few scars scattered here and there from misbehaving dragons or rowdy brothers, most of the time his sheer size as a human had your walls convulsing. Charlie was big, he was tall but by no means lanky, his thighs were deliciously thick along with his biceps, his entire being painted in the likeness of Norse mythology’s Thor.
“How cute, my little girl is staring.” Charlie teased, hand abandoning his cock and coming closer to you on the bed again.
He gripped your hips with his large hands, pulling you up onto your knees with your ass in the air. You were too tired to hold your head up, opting to rest it on the mattress instead as you watched Charlie - as best you could from this position- as he paced a hand on the still raw skin of your backside. You didn’t need a mirror to know that a few visible handprints would be left on the skin for a while. The cool feeling of his hand on the skin made you jolt forward, but Charlie hunched over carefully and placed a handful of feathery kisses on the tender skin- you could’ve sworn the pain started to subside immediately at the contact.
You whimpered as you felt him start to prod at your entrance, he chuckled at the way you wiggled your butt back into him hoping for more. Giving you what you wanted, he pushed in all the way, careful to go slow keeping in mind that he was rather large.
“Look at you, taking m’cock so well.” He grunted, bottoming out.
Cries emitted from your parted lips as you nodded into the sheets, words and sentences long gone as he started to thrust. You knew what was in store, and it only made your moans and chants of Charlie that much louder. It was no secret he had stamina, a product of his insatiable libido was usually you getting to cum twice before Charlie even thought of filling you up himself. Seeing as tonight you had already trembled through two, four and five seemed a bit daunting- but you need it.
He quickened his pace, eagerly thrusting into your tight cunt as his voice started to crack with each grunt and groan before looping an arm around your midsection and pulling your back flush against his chest. The new position had your head lulling back, pornographic moans crooning from your mouth and into his neck. Your hand came up to make its way the back of Charlie’s head, fingers carding through the copper curls at the nape of his neck as his hips snapped up into you at a hellish pace. His hand, the one not occupied with holding you up, moved to rest on your lower belly wanting to feel the way your tummy bulged with each of his thrusts. You were so tiny compared to him, so dainty, and it made his thrusts get that much harder.
His breath fanned over your ear and neck as he spoke huskily, “Such a tight little cunt f’me, can feel my cock in your belly.”
You hummed in response, his hand pulling yours down to rest where his was just moments before. The outline of his dick, each time he thrusted, running up the inside of your palm making you clench around him.
“S’like I’m gonna slit you in two, you’d like that wouldn’t you?”
With pathetic cries and nods you answered, “Yes, want you t’split me in two, need it.”
Orgasm number four hit you before you could even register what was happening but Charlie didn’t slow his thrusts, instead dropping a hand to your pulsing clit to rub rough circles and the engorged nub. His other hand, still holding you up, shifted so he could grab a handful of your breast, pinching and pulling at your erect nipples as best he could while he kept you upright. The overstimulation had you seeing stars, orgasm number five was already knocking on your door ready to come barreling in. At some point, your not sure when seeing as your mind was foggy from your fast approaching orgasm, Charlie had doubled over with your body firmly held in his arms as his hips continued to thrust into your weeping pussy at lightning speed, your back still held tightly against his chest only now your chin was hitting the mattress with each rough thrust.
You could register the stuttering of his thrusts meaning he was nearing his own release and you could finally let go for a fifth time. The weight of his body on top of yours mixed in with his forearm pressing into your abdomen and fingers massaging your clit while his balls were slapping against your glistening and used pussy had your body trembling uncontrollably in his grasp. Charlie gave a choked moan of your name as he finished deep inside you, your body spasming along with the walls of your cunt as you came with him.
Charlie held you to his chest still, but shifted so he was now on his side and you were no longer taking any of his weight. Slowly he went to pull out of you, making you whimper at the feeling, your over used cunt far too sensitive for the movement.
“Shh, you’re ok,” He cooed, gentling running a palm down the side of your face and through your hair. “Gotta get you cleaned up, yeah? Then I want my best girl’s cuddles, ok?”
His voice was gently, coaxing you to open your eyes and look at him as you answered with a feeble nod, “Ok, then cuddles...” you murmured.

A Summer Secret Part 1 - F.W
Masterlist, Requesting Rules, Writing Prompt Masterlist
Part 1 of my mini-series 'A Summer Secret' want to be tagged? Let me know!
Part 2
Requested/About: After bursting a water pipe and flooding his house, Fred needs a place to stay - whilst the family is on a vacation he temporarily stays at  George's house. Y/N tries to get out of an arranged marriage her parents have planned with the Malfoy Family. Failing to do so, she flees to George's house - the father of her best friends who promised she could stay there to escape. Fred and Y/N meet unexpectedly, and something sparks between them - something that Fred vows to be nothing more than a summer fling, a summer secret... but is it?
Warnings: Age gap relationship (y/n is 18), swearing, mention of arranged marriage, mention of food and eating.
Staring out of the train window, bidding farewell to the mountains, the river, and to Hogwarts, you felt tears prick at your eyes. You weren't ready to go home for summer, you never did - you were always at the Twin's house, living under George and Angelina's roof to escape the arguments your parents caused when you said no to them controlling every aspect of your life.
Unfortunately, Gideon and Fabian were going away for the summer with their parents to visit Charlie and you were unable to join them, you understood and was fine with it, but you were absolutely terrified to step foot into your home, with your parents trying to force you into a marriage you didn't want.
"Cheer up, Y/N." Fabian frowned "I hate seeing you upset."
You broke your stare from the scenery and looked over at your best friends, taking some puking pastilles from their bags.
"Just in case" you muttered, "If they're sick they'll leave me alone."
Fabian smirked and shook his head, tutting "Did they say anything else in the letter?"
You shook your head back "No, they just told me I didn't have a choice.  I've graduated, I'm eighteen yet I can't decide what I want for myself."
"I can't imagine getting married at this age to someone I've probably never met."
You stared at Fabian, a little sore and taken aback by his sudden burn.
"Thanks, Fabian, I can't either." You squirmed in your seat and pulled out some jelly snakes from the bag of sweets you were sharing, biting and pulling at the tail, stretching the snake, bursts of green apple and lime flooded your mouth.
"I'm sorry Y/N," he apologised starting to panic.
You shrugged it off and tried to stay calm, throwing him a jelly snake"It's okay."
Gideon rummaged through his large bag and pulled out a large bronze key, handing it to you. "If things get really bad, stay at our house anyway."
You smiled slightly and took the key from him, examining it before stuffing it in your pocket "Thanks, lads."
Fabian nodded his head, flicking through job applications he had filled out before sighing and plonking them back in his bag. "Thank Merlin we've got dads shop"
"Tell me about it" Gideon replied "Uncle Fred will be chuffed when we roll up begging for a job."
The two of them laughed, waiting for you to join in, but you were too busy staring out of the window getting lost in what could unfold in a few hours time.
Dear Y/N,
We are so proud of you for working so hard, we are very eager to find out your N.E.W.T results in the next few months to come.
Your mother and I have been looking for jobs you can apply to once you're home, if you've got the grades, working for The Ministry seems rather promising. Your friend's uncle worked as an Auror for a little while, the one who now picks up spare shifts at that joke shop every now and then.
Anyway, we have got some news we need to share it with, unfortunately, we are unable to tell you in person as the wait is too long, but I don't doubt our owl is rather fast at delivering letters; a lot faster than yours it seems.
We have decided that you will be getting an arranged marriage, your status needs to be high if you want to go for and do well in life, you will marry into a very successful family, one that will open doors for you which your N.E.W.Ts cannot.
If you have anything going on with anyone right now, you need to end it before you arrive home. This matter is not up for discussion, neither is the family we have chosen for you.
Arrive home on time, well dressed, and we will go through the meeting. Don't you dare show us up in front of them, you will regret it.
Please write back, I'm not sending another owl to check on you and you are old enough to realise that Howlers are for kids.
Grow up and act like an adult.
See you soon.
Safe Travels,
-  Y/D/N
Grumbling down the path to your house, your stomach started to do flips as you inched closer and closer to the front door. Seeing yourself in the reflection of the glass diamond shape in the middle of the door, you quickly fixed your hair that got ruffled in the wind, unrolling your skirt and straightening out the creases in your blouse.
Taking a deep breath, you exhaled and pushed the front door open, carrying your trunk inside, your owl flying inside eagerly for scraps of food. Your heart thumped in your chest and you could hear each thump in your ears.
"Mum!" you called out "Dad!"
"We're in the living room, Y/N," Y/D/N replied.
Setting down your trunk beside the stairs in case you needed to make a quick escape, you walked into the living room, staring at your shoes, afraid your parents had already pulled out a wedding dress and pamphlets of various venues waiting to be hired.
"How lovely to see you," your mother smiled, getting out of her seat to pull you into a hug before your dad cleared his throat.
Yeah, go on, scare her away from me like you always do.
Your mum quickly sat back down beside your father who didn't hug you or welcome you home. Instead, he pulled two moving photographs from the pocket in his waistcoat, setting them face down on the table in front of you.
This must be the family he's chosen for me.
"Well dressed like I asked, thank you." He smiled "You'll be happy to know that the family we have picked out for you are rather eager to... get the ball rolling. They've been kind enough to offer to cover the costs of the wedding, and helping you move into their home once you have married their son."
A wedding... I won't get to choose...
Moving into their home... where I cannot escape...
Fred cursed under his breath standing in his kitchen, the bottom of his trousers heavy and drenched because of the water rising up to his ankles. He dragged himself around the kitchen, searching for some parchment and a quill, but with no luck, he grabbed the muggle telephone, trying to remember how to ring his brother.
"Hello, George Weasley speaking-"
"Alright, Mr Fancy arse" Fred replied, swearing as his shoes started to squelch with each step "Look, I need some help."
Angelina could be heard in the background, telling George to meet her at the airport after she lands with the boys.
"What's up, Freddie?"
Fred sighed "I'm up to my ankles in water, a bloody pipe burst and these muggles take ages to get here. The whole house will be flooded by the time you get here, can I crash at your place? I don't want to bother mum, she's got enough going on with Ron and Hermione's newborn."
George smirked through the phone, amused at his brother's bad luck with something as simple as a water pipe, magic not being able to fix it after a prank going wrong with Fred's wand.
"Of course, me, Angelina, and the boys will be gone for a few weeks though, there's enough food and that - all I ask is that you look after the owls for us."
Fred walked up the steps, his lower legs now getting wet "Thank you, George, I owe you one!"
"It's okay Freddie, just don't get up to any trouble."
"I won't. Say hi to Charlie for me!"
If Gideon and Fabian knew Uncle Fred was staying at the house too, they would have texted you, sent an owl if they didn't have any signal, but they didn't know - and their father didn't think to tell them.
If Fred knew a younger girl would be staying in the house, he would have rented a room somewhere else, hell, he would've stayed in the office above the shop, but he didn't know.
And you of all people would've forced yourself to stay under your parent's roof for a little longer, or jump on a plane and bump into Gideon and Fabian just by chance, but they didn't tell you.
Fred always felt amazed when he was in George's house - it was large and cosy, a proper family home, a master bedroom with an ensuite, two guestrooms where you had slept during previous summer - where the twins often slept instead of their own room from time to time, and a large bathroom that could fit in the whole Weasley family.
You swallowed hard, shifting in the stiff chair, you shook your head, your voice wobbly as you tried to speak.
"Dad, I appreciate all of this, I really do - but I'm an adult, it isn't your choice or right to make decisions for me, I don't want to get married, I don't want to live with another-"
You wanted to continue, but Y/D/N glared at you, he spoke through gritted teeth, flipping over the photographs of the family trying to buy you for their son.
"How dare you disrespect me. After everything I have done for you, for this family, you are not an adult, you still act like a child!"
"I'm eighteen!" you snapped, feeling brave, finding your voice.
"You are still living under my roof! You will do as I say!"
Your mother did nothing but stare into the fireplace, perhaps deep in thought or imagining you in a white lace dress, walking down the aisle with a face smile plastered on your face.
"No, I will not!"
"You will!" your dad bellowed, rising out of his chair "because they are coming to meet you in an hour and you better comply, girl!"
Tears pricked at your eyes, your chest tightened and the familiar lump formed in your throat. Staring down at the picture made you sick to your stomach, you recognised the young lad in the photograph, for he was no other than Scorpius Malfoy.
"The Malfoys!" you also stood up "I will never, ever marry into that family! Not after what they did!"
Y/D/N grunted "What are you going to do? Marry a Weasley? Work in a joke shop and be a laughing stock for a living?"
You stormed out of the living room, grabbing your trunk, your mother continued to stare into the flames, blocking out everything around her, smiling about what could have been.
Your dad followed you, grabbing the other handle on your trunk, pulling you to him.
"You aren't going anywhere!"
"I'm going anywhere but here!" you snarled back, your trunk opened and your clothes dropped onto the floor, letting go, you stormed up the stairs and sprinted to your bedroom, slamming the door behind you.
Frantically, you pulled out your phone, messaging the twins.
Y/N: They want me to marry into the Malfoy family! I can't fucking do it.
Fabian: Wait. Scorpius?
Gideon: You've got to be joking.
Y/N: No! I'm not! His family are coming to meet me in the next hour, what the fuck am I going to do?
Gideon: Puking Pastilles?
Y/N: No, I'm not risking leaving this bedroom if I'm not going outside.
Fabian: You've got our house key, use it genius.
Y/N: I will tonight, I just need to fake this shit, hopefully, I won't be married by morning, I'll run away to yours in the night.
Gideon: Be careful.
Fabian: Don't do anything we wouldn't do.
Y/N: Why do you think I'm running away? The Malfoys are the worst match!
Fred got used to being alone in the house after a week, blasting loud music, dancing like no one was watching, walking around in nothing but his boxers as the summer heat became unbearable. He felt on top of the world, he was alone, enjoying himself, in a huge house all to himself.
Managing to escape through the night as you had planned, you were taken by surprise when you arrived at George's manor to find the lights on and music blaring through the walls.
Maybe the twins came home early to surprise me.
Knocking on the door was pointless, even if you yelled the music was too loud to compete with. Pulling out your key, you unlocked the door and walked inside, setting your bags down on the table on the porch, hanging your coat up on the peg. Following the music you stopped in your tracks, in front of you was Fred, dancing in his boxers, sliding across the wooden floor in his socks, playing the air guitar. Your cheeks started to go red. If this was a prank, it was definitely well thought out - but deep down, you knew that Fabian and Gideon hadn't come home.
You had met Fred before, you always visited the joke shop with your friends and he had been at George's many times over Christmas, and Summer when he wasn't working. Each time you had seen him, he had always been on his own, no girlfriend, no ring on his finger.
Fred spins around with his eyes closed and opens them as he faces you, he jumps out of his skin and instantly covers his private parts with his hands as his eyes met yours, you grabbed the remote and rapidly paused the blaring music.
"W-What are you doing here?!" he asked, breathless and red.
You picked up one of his T-Shirts and threw it at him, leaning against the table, staring at your shoes as he got dressed "I could ask you the same thing." you replied shyly.

It had all started when you had jokingly suggested that you should invite your boyfriend Charlie and his family along on your annual family trip to the beach. Your mother had agreed, and before you knew it she was on the phone to Charlie’s mother working the whole plan out.
Your family lives in Quebec, and Charlie’s in Dieppe, so your mum’s quickly decided that your family would drive to his house, and then the two families would continue the rest of the way together.
So that’s how you ended up in your dad’s old truck, pulling into the driveway of the Gillespie house at 6am in the morning after almost 8 hours of driving.
You jumped out quickly, wanting to get away from your brother’s annoying rap music and your sister’s constant whining about being bored as quickly as you could. The front door of Charlie’s house swung open and within a few seconds you were being pulled into the arms of your boyfriend, inhaling his familiar scent.
“God I missed you.” He murmured into your shoulder and you grinned.
“I missed you more handsome.” You replied, exchanging a soft kiss.
Charlie’s family joined him outside and after a few quick introductions, you were on your way to the beach, this time tucked away in the passenger’s seat of Charlie’s car.
Once you arrived your families spent the day at the beach, and Charlie couldn’t keep his hands off of you. By the time you finally headed off to bed you were certain that every other person in the house was sick of his touchy behaviour.
You made yourself comfortable on the bed, watching Charlie as he entered the room, shutting the door behind him.
“I don’t think your dad likes me that much.” He said with a giggle, flopping down onto the bed. You rolled over to look at him.
“He’d like you a lot more if you stopped looking at me and touching me like you want to fuck me at every free moment you have.” You stated, and a light blush appeared on Charlie’s cheeks.
“You think he noticed that?” He asked, pressing his nose against yours.
“I can’t imagine he wouldn’t. You haven’t been subtle at all. We’ve only been here for the day and you’ve tried to jump me three times and that’s not even counting the shower sex.” He grinned cheekily at your words.
“I can’t help it, you’re just so hot.” He whined, and you rolled your eyes.
“But we’re on a holiday with both of our families. You gotta tone down the horny.” You said. He sighed dramatically.
“Fine, I’ll try to be better tomorrow. But for now, we’re all alone... and it’s our first night...” He trailed off, pouting, his eyes dark with lust. You nodded once and that was all the consent he needed, crashing his lips against yours and making quick work of climbing on top of you and sliding his tongue into your mouth.
You moaned, your fingers scraping down his back as he grinded his hips into yours.
“Fuck.” You mumbled against his lips, your hands finding a place in his hair. You tugged lightly on his hair causing him to moan into your mouth.
“Hey Y/N?” Your mum’s voice called.
“Shit.” You exclaimed, pushing Charlie off you. Not expecting the reaction, he jumped slightly, falling off the edge of the bed with a thud.
You giggled as your mum opened the door, frowning as she took in the sight.
“Charlie, why are you on the floor?” She questioned. You laughed harder.
“Fell.” He replied simply, rolling over to stand up, climbing back onto the bed.
“What’s up Mum?” You asked, hoping that you didn’t look like you had been making out with your boyfriend only moments ago.
“Did you remember to grab the bag of board games? We were going to play Monopoly.” She said, leaning against the door. You nodded.
“I put it in the little den room.” You told her and she smiled.
“Thanks Hon, you two are welcome to join us if you’d like.” She invited. Charlie shook his head.
“We’re good thanks Mrs Y/L/N. My mum is scary good at Monopoly so I’d rather not lose to her again.” He grinned and your mum returned the smile.
“Well the offer is there if you want it.” She said, before leaving the room. You let out a sigh of relief.
“That was a close one.” You mumbled. Charlie nodded, leaning in to kiss you again. You pulled back, giving him an incredulous look.
“Really? You’re still horny after being interrupted by my mum and monopoly?” You asked. Charlie pouted.
“A bit.” He admitted. You rolled your eyes at him, pushing him away. He whined but gave in, curling up next to you instead.
“Tomorrow night.” You said, flicking the tv on. Charlie snuggled his face into your upper back.
“You promise?” He mumbled against your skin. You nodded.
“I promise. But only if you’re good during the day.” You bargained. He thought for a moment before humming in agreement.
“Deal.”
“This is not being good.” You whispered to Charlie as his hand crawled up your thigh at lunch the next day.
It was tradition for your family to get lunch at your favourite restaurant on the second day, and you had barely been there twenty minutes when Charlie started to get fidgety.
“I’m not doing anything.” He lied, giving you an innocent smile.
“Bullshit.” You muttered in reply, and Charlie shook his head, making a disapproving sound.
“Language.” He faked disappointment.
“Fuck you.” You rolled your eyes. He gave you a flirty smile.
“Oh I wish you would.” He teased, his voice deepening slightly.
“Charles.” You warned, and he sighed, sitting back up again, his hand returning to your knee.
“Remember our deal?” You said quietly, and he nodded.
“How could I forget, I’m so sexually frustrated I might explode.” He admitted. You stared at him in disbelief.
“We literally had sex yesterday evening.” You whispered, your voice hushed. Charlie nodded, eyes wide.
“Exactly! It’s almost been a whole 24 hours.” He sighed.
“A whole 24 hours since what?” Meghan questioned, and you choked on a mouthful of fish, grabbing your glass of Coke quickly to wash it down.
“None of your business.” Charlie retorted. “Stop eavesdropping.”
“Don’t have private conversations around other people then.” Meghan bit back, but dropped the conversation anyway. Charlie gave you a relieved look.
“That was close.” You muttered.
“You’re telling me. Almost enough to get rid of the semi in my pants.” He winked and you hit his arm.
“Charles. Stop it.” You reprimanded. He grinned cheekily.
“You love me.” He sung, placing a wet kiss on your cheek. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes.
“I’m reconsidering.”
“So what were you and Charlie discussing at lunch that was so private?” Meghan questioned, once you, her and your sister Isabella were alone sunbathing later that afternoon. You cringed slightly.
“You don’t want to know.” You replied.
“Oh god was it a sex thing?” Isabella gasped, and Meghan’s eyes widened in fear. You blushed.
“I told you that you didn’t want to know.” You said simply, and they both squealed in disgust.
“Do mum and dad know that you’re sleeping with Charlie?” Isabella asked after a pause. You rolled your eyes.
“I’m a fully grown adult Bel, I don’t need parental permission to have sex with my boyfriend.” You told her. Meghan fake gagged.
“Can we not talk about this? I do not want to think about my brother having sex.” She begged. You grinned slightly.
“You were the one who brought it up.” You said. Meghan sighed.
“If I’d known it was a sex thing I would have never.” She replied.
“With Charlie it’s always a sex thing.” You answered.
Meghan and Isabella groaned in unison as you giggled, flopping back into your chair.
You really needed to get some girl friends who weren’t your sister and your boyfriend’s sister.
“Was I good today?” Charlie questioned, jumping onto the bed next to you as you scrolled through Instagram that night.
You put you phone down, pretending to think.
“Well, you tried to tease me at lunch and then tried to discuss it, which then led to me having a very awkward conversation with our sisters about our sex life. So I’m gonna go with no.” You said. Charlie’s eyes widened.
“Y/N!” He gasped. “You can’t do that to me.”
“Why not? I told you to be good and you weren’t so that’s on you.” You replied, returning to scrolling on your phone. Charlie placed his head on your chest, pouting.
“But...” He trailed off. You raised an eyebrow.
“But what?” You questioned. He sighed loudly.
“But I’m so horny.” He complained. You rolled your eyes.
“That sounds like a you problem.” You replied.
“Baby.” Charlie whined, dragging out the ‘y’. “I’m gonna get blue balls, do you want that?”
“You’ve got hands. And I know you know how to use them.” You said. He sat up, giving you his infamous puppy eyes.
“Please?” He asked. You stared at him, not wiling to budge.
“Your sex drive is frankly disturbing Gillespie.” You told him.
“I know.” He agreed, batting his eyes at you. “Please?”
You groaned.
“Fine.” You said. His eyes widened.
“Really?” He questioned, a grin appearing on his face.
“Yes. Quickly, before I change my mind.” You nodded. Charlie moved forward but paused.
“Wait.” He said. You frowned.
“What now?” You questioned, your tone clearly showing your exasperation.
“You want to do this, right? I’m not making you do anything you don’t want to be doing?” He asked, suddenly serious, and your frown fell as your heart filled with love for the boy in front of you and the fact that he was still asking for consent despite how desperately horny he claimed to be. You lent in, kissing him gently.
“I promise you’re not forcing me to do anything I don’t want to do.” You said softly.
“You’re sure?” He checked. You nodded.
“Positive.” You reassured him. He grinned.
“I love you.” He whispered, leaning closer.
“I love you too.” You replied.
And with that Charlie pulled you towards him, ready to show you just how much he really loved you.

Owen hosts Couple tag
Pairing: Charlie Gillespie x Artist Fem Reader
Summary: We play pretend world guys✨ (I missed them, I’m SoRryyyy.) So, Charlie wants some reassurance after starting to prepare his proposal to Y/N and makes this “genius” plan with Owen to find her answers without being suspicious. (She totally knows tho) also a lot of friendship fighting between Owen and Y/N because I had to, I made myself laugh a lot so I’ll hope at least makes you smile🤧🤣Anyways, have fun!
This is also my weird and nonsense way of doing sweet @marvel-ousnesss request of the we play pretend couple to do a couple buzzfeed quiz 💖
Tumblr media
The blonde takes a deep breath before picking up his phone and heading to the living room, where his couple of friends and roommates are on the couch. Charlie is lying down watching television and Y/N is lying on top of him with her face snuggled into his neck, he hugging her around the waist while gently running his fingers down her skin.
The plan was simple, to help Charlie plan the perfect proposal and give him an idea of what she expects from her wedding, they were doing a “Couple tag” video. That way the questions wouldn’t be as suspicious. Of course, there are easier ways but we are talking about Charlie. They convinced Kenny to call her and tell her that it was to promote the second season that is currently being filmed, and she agreed.
Charlie mentioned many times that someone else had to ask her the questions because she reads her boyfriend like an open book, so his improvisation had to be perfect to keep his best friend’s clever girlfriend out of the hook.
He decided to start the live from his room so as not to give the singer the opportunity to think much about it, so he sits in the living room and focuses the image on his friends who are not affected in the least by their positions. After all, everyone already knows that they are a couple and that they live together.
“Hello, I’m Y/N Y/L! And yes, that sexy, beautiful, adorable and talented man is my boyfriend, Charlie Gillespie.” He blushes as the memory of their first night back as a couple invades the mind of the Canadian, who had his girlfriend in exactly this position when she was, as she said, 'practicing' her introduction. Sadly, this time it will not end like that night because his best friend and about 500,000 people are watching.
“Welcome to my first edition of the Couple tag everyone! Here's my first guest couple, I know it’s not much, but I promise to find someone worthwhile next time, this is just for practice." Charlie laughs but looks nervous. Instead, his girlfriend sits down and rolls her eyes.
"I can't believe you chose him over a puppy or a hamster." The girl says to her boyfriend while laughing at her friend's offended reaction.
“I'm going to write that down in my long enemies list, but for now I have a live to lead. Okay guys, so basically I will ask them questions and I will also choose who answers them because I’m the only one hot enough to call the shots here."
She laughs and sticks out her tongue. Charlie sits down too and she takes his hand to fiddle with it. She keeps arguing for a few minutes with Owen but shows no signs of not wanting to play the game so he starts before she regrets it.
“Okay, first one is for Charlie. How did you guys met? This is actually a good one because a lot of the fans think you met on set and are like this really intense couple who started to date the very first week without even knowing each other’s last names.”
They both start laughing at the comment. The truth is that they have seen multiple posts and comments online from people judging their relationship and how fast they were going, especially when they did that last interview together and Y/N said that Charlie was taking his sweet time to ask for marriage, since for the fans they only have one year and months of knowing each other.
“We have known each other since forever. Our moms were best friends and we were born only a few weeks apart so we've always been together. We grew up as best friends and were dating before Y/N moved to New York to play Daniela on Stardust." Charlie tries to shake off the memory of the last tearful kiss before Y/N got on the plane. Hopefully he’ll never have to part from her for so long again. Sometimes he can't even understand how he managed to get through those 5 years.
"So no, we don't know each other for just one year, but 22." She adds, kissing his nose.
"Y/N, honey. I didn't ask you, don't be rude and wait for your turn." Owen says teasingly, the girl laughs and throws a pillow at him.
“Okay, rude again. Y/N, What is the first thing that he ever gave you?”
“Oh my, this beautiful valentines card! We were like eight I think. The paper is red, and it is filled with gold and silver glitter stars. Inside is a big star that has written in the middle, “My bright star, happy valentine’s day. I love you. And a lot of doodles of my favorite things, like my guitar, a microphone, chocolate, and a little Charlie. Just adorable, I still have it and to date it is one of my favorite gifts.”
The emotion with which she responds makes Charlie's heart melt. That was the first time he called her bright star, and he kept saying it to her during every audition, every performance, every practice. The exact reason not even she knows, but maybe one of these days he'll tell her.
“Rude and a liar. The 22-year-old Charlie's handwriting is horrible, the 8-year-old Charlie handwriting could only be close to a squiggle, nothing more. Oh, and probably only you had the ability to read it. I very much doubt that was beautiful."
She opens her mouth in surprise and wrinkles her nose, feigning annoyance. “I liked you more when you had a crush on me. You were nicer.”
Owen's eyes widen and he turns to see Charlie looking for help but he just starts laughing. “Wh- What are you talking about, mean girl?”
“Oh c’mon, you totally did, Ohio.” She smiles at the camara while showing a superiority face.
“Really? I already told you a thousand times, I'm from Oklahoma. But hey, how funny, forget about Stardust and audition for Funny Girl!”
“Jokes on you, I would nail Fanny Brice.”
“Man, defend my honor!”
“Bro, I can’t. You totally did, I even got worried for a second there.” It is incredible to think about how their friendship has grown and matured over time. They went from Owen fangirling every time he saw her to being really good friends. All these fights are more of a show than anything else, the truth is that when nobody is recording they tend to be very cool around each other and the three of them have quite a pleasant dynamic now that they are living together for the show.
“I won, Idaho. Now, please continue.”
“Well, my friends embarrassed me on my own live. I can already imagine the headlines tomorrow. Anyways, Charlie, Would you let yourself in danger to save her?”
Charlie starts laughing as he drops his head on the girl's shoulder. "I think she's not going to let me lie, I always have and will continue to do so. For me it's always her safety first."
"Which has given me more than a scare but he's so freakin stubborn." She adds while looking stressed and Owen can't help but imagine all the situations Charlie must have put himself in before.
“I prefer you scared than in danger, beautiful.” He grins and kiss her lips, her facial expresions relaxing at his touch.
“Gross. Y/N, do you prefer a small wedding or a big wedding?” She can feel Charlie tense at the question, so she leans her body back to support it against him and give him a lowkey reassurance.
“I hadn't really thought about it, but I know that my almost mother-in-law has been planning it all her life so you should check with her.”
His mom. Y/N is right, as always. His mom is their biggest shipper and the wedding is probably something she’ll want to be an importart part of, maybe way more than with his brothers since she adores the girl as much as her own kids, and the fact that his girlfriend is even more aware of that fact than him makes him smile.
“Do you love it when someone refers you as ‘her boyfriend’?”
“Always. Especially if it's her. She has that little knack of saying it whenever she can and it’s the most adorable thing in the world.”
“Oh I thought she was just showing it off to me because she was intimidated by our chemistry. I don't feel so special anymore.” Charlie chuckles and sends a secret air kiss to his friend, who just smirks and fakes to blush.
“How would you handle it if you thought another man was hitting on her?” Owen asks the guitarist raising an eyebrow.
“She usually takes care of that situations, her method is to take me by the shirt and kiss me hard on the lips. I’m never going to complain about that.” Charlie says smirking and blushing.
“We are a celebrity couple, for better or for worse. I’m not having him in a fight when I can just kiss that beautiful lips and solve the problem.” Charlie smiles as he wraps his girlfriend in his arms, so she can't see his face with the next question.
“What do you dream of your marriage? Mmm, let’s go with Y/N.”
“Anything will be perfect if I spend it with the man of my life. My Char is my everything and my biggest dream is to live my whole life laughing by his side.” Owen pretends to vomit as Charlie fills her with kisses under the ear, clearly moved by her answer.
“Let’s get to someting less cheesy because I really can’t with you both anymore. Has anyone ever tried to break your relationship?”
Charlie rolls his eyes and thinks for a moment. “Yes. We were like seventeen, and this guy from hockey had this big crush on her, so he tried to flirt with her many times even though everyone knew she was my girlfriend, until one day that he made her too uncomfortable and things escalated between him and me. Luckily my brothers intervened before something else happened because he was much bigger than me. I would have totally lost.” He chuckles while his girlfriend turns to see his face and gives him another sweet kiss on the corner of his lips.
“Yes guys, they are this annoying all the time. How do I survive? A lot of yoga. Next question, If three guys are standing, and you have been blindfolded, then how would you recognize him? Guys we actually did this like three days ago on set.”
“It was awesome! We put my bandana on her eyes and since it had my smell she couldn't be guided by that to choose.” Charlie explains excited.
“We got the three of us, first Jeremy then Charlie and then me in front of her, then she began to lightly touch Jer's hand. Then she went to Charlie's, it didn't take her a minute to recognize him and she took him from the hair and draw him to her lips, it was actually a pretty smooth and risky move, I’ll give you a point for that, prodigy brat.”
“Char's body inadvertently reacts to mine. It was pretty easy to tell the difference, especially after touching Jeremy's hand.” She turns her head to give Charlie a soft kiss on the lips and then Owen starts laughing like crazy and telling her to come see a specific comment.
She gets up and goes to sit next to him, Owen changes the camera so that now they are the ones in the image and she begins to read aloud. “Charlie I could give you my... Oh my god!” Owen continues laughing, resting his head on his friend who simply watches the screen in shock.
“Thank god Charlie doesn’t know how to read.” Owen, who was just recovering from his giggling fit, laughs again as Charlie giggles and sticks his tongue out at his girlfriend.
"Who needs to read when you look this hot with sleeveless shirts." He jokes while winking at his partner, which seems to melt in front of the camera that is still pointing directly at her.
“The man has a point. Okay, Y/N move your ass back there I’m still in charge of this show. Would you prefer a silver or gold ring?”
She makes sure to move off the screen and sticks her middlefinger at Owen before heading back to her place with her boyfriend. “Good and really random question.” She smirks, not making contact with her boyfriend. “I don't have a preference, but I would love Char to design it. Obviously with the correct guidance, but yeah he choosing every detail and then explaining to me why he choose it would be the dream.”
Charlie smiles. He was already imagining something like this after so many years of gifting and has already been visiting the jewelry store several times to make sure he designed the perfect ring for his girl, a slight feeling of pride filling him.
“Which series does she thinks resembles your relationship?”
“She loves Boy Meets World and see a lot of us in Cory and Topanga. I can totally see it too, after all they too have known each other their whole lives and have a bond as strong as ours.”
“Well that explains why she’s always telling me ‘Life is though, get a helmet’ instead of actually help me.” She grins at the memory of Charlie’s last prank on Owen a couple of days ago, it was really good since she secretly helped him plan it.
“Man, It wasn’t personal. I do the same with Char. I’m not going to be known for being the one ruining prank war. Take it to the end of the road, if you need me to take you idiots out of jail I totally will... eventually.”
“My girl, everyone. Isn’t she awesome?” He watches her adoringly and she blushes in response, buring her head on his neck.
“She always has this enormous energy and personality but all it takes is for you to see her for her to melt, that’s... kind of cute actually. Okay next question Stardust, What about If Charlie tells you to marry him tomorrow?”
For the thousandth time that night Y/N can feel Charlie stressing out. The fact that he planned together with Owen and Kenny all of this just to make sure he was on the same page with her is the most adorable thing in the world.
“I’m pretty sure he knows I would always say yes. He could have gotten on a plane when we were 18 and told me ‘I don't want to be without you, let's get married.’ And I would have said yes. He’s my person, I have nothing to think about, I have always known it’s him."
Now it's Charlie's turn to melt, and Owen himself can't help but smile.
Charlie's confidence in what he has planned is higher than ever, and the day when he can finally make it official is near. He has been dreaming of this day with his Y/N for years and he will finally get it.
“Well guys, that was it, give it up to my favorite couple of dumbasses and please stop asking obvious questions. Will I be Y/N’s maid of honor? Of course I will. Oh, and tune in next week to see me becoming Kenny’s new favorite after I challenge Y/N in a dance duel with I got the music. Golden star is GOING DOWN."

MIDNIGHT SKY
I have three important warnings about the AU oneshot.
The first is that this story is a little different from what I have already written. What does that mean? It means that the story will have dirty jokes, (1) detailed french kiss and alcohol. And sexual tension. Yes. An ace trying to write UST. Ah! They are 18 here.
The second is, of course, language. There is nothing more explicit than what I have written in other stories. It's just that it's hard for me to write stories without cursing like a sailor. Sorry.
The third is that I didn’t tag anyone in this story for the reasons above. I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable.
The two songs featured in the story are (in order of appearance): Gone by Charli XCX and Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus.
9.6K (the story is under "read more")
Maribat by @ozmav
In that au, Alya and Marinette dated for a year at the Collège, but when they joined Lycée and Lila arrived, they broke up because Lila managed to convince Alya that Marinette was cheating on her.
Lila's obsession with Adrien in the canon is replaced by Marinette, that is, instead of Adrien, Marinette is Lila's target here.
Since Lila never lied about being friends with Ladybug, Mari never suspected the girl.
So, Lila comments to Alya that it was very strange Marinette's constant disappearances and how the girl made up weak excuses about it
Alya is hard to convince at first, but with Lila's time and persuasive words, she ends up giving in and believing in Lila.
Alya accuses Mari, Mari denies it, but it's no use.
They break up.
Everyone starts to exclude Marinette, supporting Alya who is heartbroken because she still loved Mari.
Except Adrien, who is a good friend for the designer.
So, while everyone was focused on Alya, Lila approaches Marinette and Adrien in the image of a concerned and supportive friend.
She offers a shoulder for Marinette to cry, and friendship to Adrien.
This is, of course, hidden from everyone.
Lila uses Adrien and Marinette for personal gain. Knowing that Adrien was too innocent and Marinette too kind.
Marinette falls in love with the Italian and with Adrien's encouragement, she confesses.
They start dating and Lila loves that Marinette kisses the floor she steps on
This is all hidden from the class.
Lila gives the excuse that she didn’t assumed her sexuality to anyone and that she is not ready yet
Mari and Adrien are quick and comfort the Italian, telling her that she doesn't have to force herself into anything. That they loved her.
Months go by, Kagami arrives at Dupont stealing Chloe's heart and befriending Adrien
Eventually she joins the pair (adrien and marinette) bringing Chloe and Sabrina together, who apologize to Marinette
They start to hang out together as friends and Mari is happy.
This makes Lila angry, since adrinette are no longer isolated and available to her all the time.
Lila accuses Mari of not having more time for her and not loving her anymore, trying to make the girl feel guilty
Mari fearing that the same thing that happened with Alya, happens with Lila, starts to isolate herself from her friends, giving her full attention to Lila
Kagami and Chloe notices Marinette's behavior and how sad the girl looked
Marinette can't take it, and tells the four friends what had happened and that sends red lights to Kagami who starts watching Lila closely.
That’s until Chloe and Sabrina find a mistake in one of Lila’s lies and tell the fencer
And so, Kagami investigates and uncovers all Lila's lies
Including why Alya broke up with Marinette and she tells Marinette
Marinette doesn't believe in Kagami and fights with her friend, because Lila would never do that to her
So, Mari starts to avoid Kagami and Chloe and Lila celebrate with the victory
Lila warns Kagami to stay away from Marinette, because Mari was hers, thinking that the Japanese girl was interested in Mari
Kagami becomes Onii-chan, exposing Lila to Chat Noir and Ladybug
Marinette again has her heart broken and she cries on her friends' shoulders after asking for forgiveness for not believing.
She breaks up with Lila the next day when Lila is alone without the class present.
Lila tries to make the girl change her mind, blame Marinette's friends, emotional manipulation, but it's no use and Mari leaves without looking back
Lila has an outbreak of anger, but surprisingly, no butterfly appears
She tries to win Marinette back throughout the week, but the girl pretends not to see her and the group of friends was also quick to repel the Italian.
Kagami being the most brutal
With that, Lila takes personal revenge and begins to lie about Marinette and her friends
About them bullying her and harassing her.
Everyone believes in the girl and the group of friends become the outcasts of the class
Even though Lila made their lives hell, she still believed that Marinette would come back to her
The same for Alya, who still liked the girl, but treated her badly for revenge.
That is, until Lycée's graduation party takes place.
▫▪▪
The fact is: Marinette was happy.
For a while she thought it would be impossible to be happy. When you discover that the two people you loved with all your heart were two fake ones, it’s kind of makes you think that you are actually the problem.
And for a while she thought just that.
When Alya, instead of asking her to talk privately to try to understand what was going on, decided that the best time to yell at her was in the middle of the courtyard with all the students watching the show; her thoughts were that she might deserve it.
It had been humiliating, yes. She never felt so much embarrassment and hurt as she did that time. But being honest, Marinette knew that something like that could happen, since she couldn't tell her secret to Alya. It wasn't much of a shock.
She tried to convince Alya, denied it, did what she could. In the end she gave up and ran home to lick her wounds, putting on her big girl mask.
It was really a surprise that there wasn't even a butterfly. For her or Alya. No sign of akuma for an entire week.
Or later, when she found out that the girl she loved, the same one she loved the floor she stepped on, was all the time lying to her and that it was Alya's cause to break up with her.
And that in the end she became a villain almost bigger than Hawkmoth in Marinette's life; leaving her isolated, almost without friends; making up lies or accusing her of things she hadn't done. Lila tried, and in a way, managed to ruin Marinette.
She thought this was her destiny: failed and illusory relationships. No sincere and passionate romance. Kisses that wouldn't make her blood boil or her heart race. Nothing that made her weak and wobbly legs.
Marinette had broken up with Lila just six months after they started dating. She was about to turn sixteen. Alya broke up with Marinette after a year of dating, she was fifteen.
Maybe it was a curse, she thought. Since she was lucky enough to have been chosen to be a hero; loving and concerned parents; wonderful friends (all four); talent recognized by powerful people (Audrey and Gabriel).
In the same way as Ladybug and Chat Noir, if she had one side too good, the other would have to be as bad as to balance the scale.
What Tikki had firmly denied and said that Marinette just needed to be patient, that the right person for her would show up. She just needed to mature and wait for it.
Marinette tried to be positive about the words of the little goddess. Really. She really tried.
So, when she turned sixteen and Adrien announced that he and Luka were in a relationship, Marinette celebrated for her friends. She was genuinely happy for them. But when Sabrina, not even a month later, appeared hand in hand with Felix, both with red cheeks and babbling about deciding to try a relationship; Marinette broke.
She broke down and gave up.
Seeing how Chloe changed when she was with Kagami or how Felix was opening up more and more because of Sabrina, showed Marinette that she hadn't been enough for Lila. Or Alya. She was the problem.
Then she stopped.
Marinette began to focus more on studies, friends, commissions, training as a guardian and life as a hero. Not looking once for romantic relationships. And she was like that. Increasingly strong and independent, not once bowing her head to other people.
For her seventeenth birthday, Luka - who had discovered he was Jagged's son and was now living with the man - invited family and friends to celebrate at the rockstar's mansion in Gotham. Trying to keep the group away from Paris and Akumas for a while. Everyone agreed, since it was a good idea.
(Gabriel who was leaving for a business trip in New York and allowed Adrien to go with them, like a long-delayed vacation.)
And it was there that Marinette met Damian. Tall, arrogant, beautiful green eyes, olive skin, broad shoulders, defined muscles, dark hair like the night and a permanent frown as a causal expression. She felt like air was being stolen from her lungs.
The second time they kissed - the first being just a brush of lips - Damian held her tightly. His fingers sinking into the flesh of her hips, the palm leaving feverish impressions on her skin, the fullness of his cologne soaking her senses, the sharp drag of his tongue against the roof of her mouth, pulling the tiniest delightful sighs from her lungs.
Marinette had been lost in Damian. She dragged her hands through his smooth, combed hair, as if she were drugged with passion. Her nails scraping over the bare skin on the back of his neck, never wanting to let go. The sounds that escaped, Damian swallowed fervently, looking just as drunk as she did.
Marinette was weak, wobbly, her blood was like lava, her heart was beating as if it wanted to break her ribs, she was short of breath and her brain was like goo.
It was there that she gave herself over to love once again.
They returned to Paris, Luka staying in Gotham, but promising video calls and visiting when he was off tour with Jagged; Adrien was sad, but he was also the musician's greatest enthusiast.
For Marinette, leaving Gotham and, consequently, Damian, had been painful. The chaotic, disgusting thoughts about how the relationship had been only a 'summer love', but in the end it was him who insisted on continuing. Then the same promise that Luka had made to Adrien, Damian made to Marinette.
Returning to Paris was fine, but returning to Dupont had been disappointing. Somehow, Ms. Bustier's class came to believe that Chloe, Adrien, Marinette and Sabrina had been absent for a week, just to get attention and as a result, the verbal attacks became more violent. Alya and Lila being the two most aggressive.
Aurore, a few days after the group's return to Paris, had told Marinette that Alya let slip that she was dating Nino just to hurt her. As revenge for being 'unfaithful', so that Marinette would regret having deceived her.
Marinette was really sad for Nino, as he seemed to really like Alya.
Thus, a year passed in the blink of an eye and in two days, there would be the graduation party for all classes of graduates.
The first idea - coming from the teachers - was that the party would be in the American style of prom. Beautiful dresses, king and queen and all that bullshit, but all the students who were graduating refused. They wanted something different.
Hawkmoth and Mayura had been defeated, they were all graduating, all of them of age wanting to leave the lycée in style. And Chloe - as always - at the meeting with all the class representatives, offered the Moulin Rouge as a graduation party.
Everyone loved it. Well, almost everyone, since the teachers thought that a graduation party at a nightclub would be overkill; but with all the students excited about the idea and the fact that they were of age, the school allowed it.
It was three months of organization. Selling tickets to non-students, buying drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic -, food - since no one would be able to stand all night without eating -, talking to the club's employees, making the guest list. It was exhausting, but it only increased general anxiety.
"What do you think, bug?" Chloe was wearing a yellow sequin bodycon dress with spaghetti straps and four-inch silver strappy high heels. "Kardashian or Paris?"
Marinette chewed the strawberry in her mouth. One side of the earphone to the ear, the phone in one hand on a video call with Damian and with the other hand, she wagged her finger, asking Chloe to turn.
"Hmm, I think it would be better to choose something that you won't have to fix up every time you move around a lot." The brunette considered after Chloe turned to her again. "We are going to a nightclub to drink and dance, so I think a bodycon is not the best idea."
Chloe pouted, looking at the back of the outfit in the mirror. “But that dress makes my butt so round. 'Gami would love it.”
Marinette looked at the phone in time to see Damian raise an eyebrow at the subject, an amused gleam in his eyes. "For sure, but choose something that you will be able to dance with me because I intend to leave that club without feeling my legs."
She was biting into another strawberry when Chloe put her hands on her hips, still looking at herself in the mirror. “Watch out, bug. You spend a lot of time without feeling your legs, an hour can become dangerous.”
Marinette frowned without understanding, but the wink that Chloe sent and Damian's laughter took the confusion out of her.
"Chloe!" She took the pillow closest to her on the bed and threw it at her friend. "No sexual jokes." The blonde was laughing as she returned to the closet, easily avoiding the pillow.
"Because actions speak more than words." Damian had a small mischievous smile on his face. "And I'm a man of action."
“Oh? We'll see." Marinette threw the second and last piece of the strawberry into her mouth, chewing it slowly as she stared at the camera. "I'm looking forward to your actions, baobei."
▫▪▪
While Marinette was eager to leave the lycée and forget her classmates for good, she was also feeling salty about everything. About how Lila would get away with it, go on with life as if she hadn't fucked Marinette's entire lycée life.
On the one hand, she wanted to unmask Lila so that everyone could see how rotten the Italian was. On the other hand, she no longer cared what others thought of her, much less wanted to help them get rid of Lila's slimy claws.
There were more cons than pros and she didn't know what to do.
"Marinette, why don't you let your hair down?" Tikki flew to the girl.
"I don't know, Tikki." She took the mascara, wiping it on her lashes. "My hair is too big and I'm going to sweat." Marinette turned her face away from the mirror, studying the makeup.
She had decided to dare that night. After spending years with just mascara and gloss, Marinette had smeared black eyeshadow on her upper and lower eyelids, a little highlighter above the pink cheekbones and a pink nude lipstick.
The makeup had become a spectacle, giving it a mature look.
"Just take a ribbon to attach." The little kwami pouted and Marinette rolled her eyes affectionately. "And it will also match your outfit."
"Okay, okay. Let me fix this mane, then."
Marinette thought about wearing one of the many evening dresses she had designed before, however, considering the same advice she had given Chloe, she choose something safer.
Skinny jeans with subtle rips in thighs and knees, lace crop top with spaghetti straps and sweetheart neckline, her loyal Louboutin daf platform ankle boots. All black except for the Chanel red – synthetic – leather jacket that Damian had given her as a gift.
She opted for different jewelry this time. Tikki and the earrings would stay with Sabine, and a small, discreet pink gold earring in the shape of a ladybug took place. On the neck, the choker that matched the earrings adorned the delicate skin, as well as the ring on the finger.
"There." Marinette announced. The hair was in uneven curls, giving volume. "What do you think?" She opened her arms for Tikki to take a closer look at the choice of clothes.
She had adopted the sexy and dangerous look with praise.
"You look wonderful, Marinette!" The kwami squeaked excitedly. "Damian will love it!"
Marinette smiled excitedly. "Do you really think?!"
"She's right, my love. You look stunning.”
The two jumps in surprise at the new voice and Marinette turned in time to see Damian enter her room. Tikki soon became scarce.
"Dames!" She quickly approached her boyfriend, happiness on her expression. “When did you arrive? I didn't get late, did I?”
Damian was quick to wrap his arms around her waist, pressing the smaller body against him. There was an evil smile on his face. "I just arrived and I missed my girlfriend a lot, so I decided to show up early."
Marinette wrapped her arms around his hunched shoulders, her fingers sinking into the short hair on the back of his neck. "Good, because your girlfriend was really missing you too."
"And what does she intend to do about it?" Damian dragged his hands under the leather jacket, letting his hands roam over the bare skin on her back.
Her eyes darkened with the touch and the proximity of their faces. They hadn't seen each other for a few months since Damian had been busy joining Tim in charge of WE and that took a toll on both of them.
The hunger for touch - Damian's touch - for Marinette had become unbearably difficult to control without him around to relieve. But now he was there, so close that every slight movement of their heads resulted in their noses rubbing against each other.
And she wanted more, much more. Damian didn't seem averse to that, if the warm look was any indication.
"What do you want-" He didn't give her the chance to finish her thought, his lips firm against hers in a passionate kiss.
And Marinette gave herself up again, as anxious as she was, to get lost in their own little world. She wanted it so, so much. It was disturbing how lost in Damian she was.
"I didn't want to disturb the love birds, but they are all waiting in the limo." The two of them reluctantly moved away.
Both were panting, Damian's lips red and damp with lipstick marks on his skin, his hair ruffled by Marinette's fingers; she was no different, lipstick had smeared the skin around her mouth, her lips were red and her eyes were blurry.
Adrien had been the one to interrupt the two, still standing on the stairs and leaning on the bedroom floor as if watching a very interesting movie. He had a mischievous smile on his face.
Damian sighed, regaining consciousness, frowning at being interrupted.
"Sometimes you are a pain in the ass, Agreste." He grunted as he helped Marinette adjust her clothes.
"And you still love me." Adrien showed his tongue in retaliation. “Don't forget to clean that lipstick stain. You know that if Jason and Tim see it, they won't be talking about anything for a week.”
“Thank you, Adrien. We will be leaving soon!” Marinette replied before Damian said something rude and dragged her boyfriend over so she could wipe his face with makeup remover.
The model took no more time in the room and went down.
"I think it's best not to apply lipstick again." Damian leaned against the dresser, arms crossed over his chest, watching Marinette fix her smudged makeup.
Her hand faltered over the lipstick tubes with his comment, rethinking the options, and decided to pick a strawberry chapstick.
"I don't think you're going to care about the artificial strawberry taste, are you?" She winked at Damian boldly and took a second look at what he was wearing.
"Not at all. Now let's go, before Chloe comes for us.” And he pulled her into the hatch on the floor.
The girl was so distracted by his presence that she hadn't even paid attention to what he was wearing. And she approved the choice of the set.
Damian wore a gray v-neck t-shirt folded inside his black slim fit pants - without a belt -; over the shirt, a graphite blazer folded below the elbows to show the inner print of the piece; polished black shoes on the feet.
And she thought seeing him in a three-piece suit was surprising.
They left the house without much fanfare. Sabine and Tom sitting on the couch with Tikki and Plagg watching some old movie on TV just waved their hands, telling them to have fun and call if they needed anything.
Chloe's limo was parked right next to the bakery exit. Luka leaning against the open door, talking to Félix and Jason.
Félix had - surprisingly - left his ties and waistcoats in the closet this time. Wearing a rare gray polo shirt, regular cut black jeans with leather belt and on his feet, Gucci loafers. Only the hairstyle remained the same, as he and Damian were two people who breathed hair gel.
Jason hadn't changed much. All in black, regular pants looking well-worn on his knees, combat boots, Henley with open buttons and a leather jacket. Hair looking much wilder than on a normal day.
Luka, on the other hand, wore almost the same as Jason. The differences were that Luka did not have a leather jacket, his shirt was a white button down and was wrapped around his forearms and his pants were leather. But that was not what caught Marinette's attention about her friend.
It was the first time she had seen Luka in person in months (almost a year) and she learned from Adrien, that he had adopted a new haircut and that he had gotten some tattoos. But she didn't think he would have both arms full with complex designs and colors.
His hair was short on the sides and nape, the natural tone left untouched in the shaved parts. With longer top totally dyed blue. She was able to see that there were more piercings in the ears, a dark ring on the nose and a black plug in each ear.
"Hey, guys! Sorry we are late." Marinette smiled at their friends who had stopped talking to look at them.
"Good night, Mari."
"Bugnette, what's up!"
"Ma-Marinette, your music is still fantastic."
"Luka, you're total rock 'n roll! Jagged must be proud.” She commented.
"I liked the Red Hood style, Bugnette." Jason pointed out the similarities.
"It would be interesting to see Red Hood kicking ass on a six-inch platform heel." Felix looked at Jason, considering.
"There is an image that I would rather not have in my head." Damian groaned as if in pain.
Jason opened his mouth to probably swear at his friends and brother, but was interrupted by Chloe, who came out of the limo snorting in irritation.
“Can you guys get in soon? I want to make a dramatic entrance and you are getting in the way!”
“Wow, Chlo. You are wonderful." Marinette ignored her friend's angry snort, preferring to look at the clothes the girl was wearing.
"Of course. I am always wonderful.” Posing with hands on hips.
Chloe's outfit was not the most outrageous outfit she had ever worn before. They were simple pieces, but together they made a fatal set.
She wore a black satin top with spaghetti straps, folded into a white high-waisted mini shorts, on the legs, four-inch black over the knee boots - Tom Ford's lace-up nappa she loved - and on the neck there were two chokers: the broadest was white with black print and the thinest was leather decorated with crystals; plus a gold necklace with bee pendant.
Her hair was in a messy ponytail and her makeup was simple; black eyeliner, shadow on the eyelids was a sparkling metallic - yet soft - there was a lovely pink on the cheekbones and her lipstick was nude.
"I'm getting more and more excited about it all." Marinette murmured, an evil smile on her face.
Chloe winked at her friend, having the same thoughts as her. "Come on suckers!"

When they arrived at the club street, there was a considerable line at the entrance for people who had bought tickets; but as Sabrina, Adrien, Chloe, Marinette and Kagami were students, they were entitled to VIP entrance and could take two guests each.
"That's a lot people." Adrien commented sitting next to Luka and Chloe.
He wore an oversized pastel pink button-down shirt; the last three buttons open with the left end folded into the slim fit light blue denim pants. On the feet, off-white converse with white socks.
The hair, which he had let it grow - not too long, just long enough for a little ponytail - was parted on the side and messy, two kitten clips holding the right side of the bangs, while the left side fell textured over the eye.
"I see Nath and Marc from your class coming." Kagami lays a finger on the window, showing the two boys to enter.
She wore a pleated red peplum off-shoulder knit top, black leather pants with golden zippers on both sides; and on the feet, six-inch silver gold peep toe platform high heels.
Her hair, now in a pixie cut, had her bangs pushed aside. The makeup, she just had a thick black eyeliner on her eyes, ruby lipstick on her lips and minimal blush. Accessories include a pair of diamond earrings.
"Aurore and Claude too." Sabrina replied. That night, she had left her glasses at home, opting for contact lenses.
Sabrina opted for a black backless bodysuit with spaghetti straps, a pleated two-tiered skirt with the first being gold sequin and the second layer was peach tulle. On the feet, five-inch black lace up bandage high heels.
Red hair in a French bob, with loose curls and messy bangs. A silver necklace with a fox pendant around her neck. The makeup the same as Kagami's, changing only the color of the lipstick, which was a wine purple.
"Everyone has arrived." Jason says, his eyes glued to the phone.
"Everyone?" Marinette asks, eyebrow raised.
"Yeah..." He looks up, feeling the sharp edge.
"Everyone who?" Damian asked, already knowing the answer to that question.
"You know..." Jason looks away before speaking again. “Artemis, Dick, Kori, Tim, Conner, Cass, Steph, Babs, Duke and Jon. Bruce and Selina didn't come because Helena cried every time they put her in the crib.”
Damian grunted and Marinette laughed, incredulous. Luka and Adrien were out of breath from laughing.
"My god, the entire Wayne family under one roof..." Félix gasped in horror.
"If Paris remains whole tomorrow, I will ask my father to declare a holiday." Chloe joked.
"Okay, I think we better get in soon because this is getting weird here." Marinette opened the limo door and let out a breath.
It was now or never.

Lila was ready. This was the last chance she would have to mess with Marinette, before everyone followed the path of adulthood with colleges and jobs.
Was she a little obsessive? Yes. She would not deny it. But there was something about Marinette. Something that she couldn't name, that made her waste hours of the day thinking about her; feeling angry that the girl broke up with her and never looked twice at Lila again.
She simply pretended that the Italian did not exist, regardless of the lie that Lila told or accused her, Marinette did not even blink in her direction and that left her burning with frustration, a bitter taste in her mouth.
When Marinette broke up with her, the first thing she thought was that it was Alya's doing, but she soon gave up on the idea since Alya was her most loyal follower and didn't know about Lila and Marinette's relationship.
But she knew that Marinette would not have found it out on her own, that she had help and that the person who had done it would pay. It was only when she noticed Kagami's murderous looks that everything fell into place and she tried.
Lila tried so hard to ruin Kagami Tsurugi's life. At school, at home, with the girl's fencing partners. Everything. But somehow Kagami was untouchable.
So, she went around, attacking Chloe with gossip around the school, accusing Marinette of bullying, telling everyone that Adrien was gay, throwing suggestions to Sabrina's stupid father; everything she could do she did and in a way, she got some results, but nothing significant.
Not even when Lila talked – lied - about lovers or high society ex-lovers like Damian Wayne, Peter Stark, Princess Shuri to make the girl jealous, Marinette reacted.
It was frustrating. Marinette getting further and further away from her control, the days and months passing, the anger rising. But she had everything ready for that night.
Lila would recover what was hers for better or for worse.
Nino choked on his drink and coughed violently, drawing her attention.
"You're right, man?!" Kim asked worriedly as he hit the DJ on the back.
The whole class was sitting in a discreet corner of the club that filled up more with each passing minute, so the boy was soon surrounded by concerned colleagues.
Lila tried not to roll her eyes in annoyance.
Nino inhaled the air trying to compose himself, his outstretched arm pointing to a somewhere in the club. "Ma-MA"
Alya frowned in confusion before following the direction with her eyes, where Nino pointed. The reaction she had was almost identical to Nino.
"MARINETTE?!" She screamed; the club's music drowning out, but the class was able to hear without a problem as they were close.
Lila felt a sharp pain and burning in the back of her neck from the speed that she turned her head, but it didn't matter. With ‘Marinette, Marinette, Marinette’ singing in her mind, she rested her eyes on the sight of the gods.
There she was. Sin itself. Lila felt her mouth dry, feeling deeply dehydrated.
She had other people with her, but the Italian had eyes only for Marinette. For the way the pants hugged the curves like a glove, the contrast of red and black against the alabaster skin, the sudden ability to walk in heels.
The loose hair that she never showed anyone, just for Lila, but now everyone was seeing.
"Wow, Marinette looks beautiful." Alix sighed.
"I didn't know Sabrina could look like this..." Max commented back.
"Chloe looks beautiful, too." Kim's cheeks were flushed.
"... Mari..." Alya said again, her eyes glassy, unaware of Nino's grimace.
Lila felt her anger burn again.
Everyone was looking at Marinette. Everyone was coveting what was hers.
She swallowed the rest of the gin violently before placing the glass on the table and walked to the dance floor.
Tonight, Marinette would look at her, only at her.

Meeting Damian's family on the sofas in the VIP area of the Moulin Rouge had been quite a scene, since the group of heroes - and vigilantes - attracted a lot of attention, even though they were doing nothing but talking and drinking.
Artemis and Kori, two tall and strong women, wearing simple clothes: Kori with a black lace trimmed silk satin mini dress accompanied by black shorts, and on her feet, four-inch open toe pump noir from Visage; Artemis, on the other hand, was more comfortable with blue ripped skinny jeans, a transparent black button-down blouse - a lace bralette underneath - and on the feet, Jeffrey Campbell's four-inch rodillo-hi wedge sandal.
Babs was also tall, but not quite as tall as the other two. She was wearing a scribbled multicolored Jeremy Scott mini dress and red YSL stilettos opyum 110 on her feet. Cass was the most casual, all in black wearing a black t-shirt with sleeves wrapped around her shoulders, denim and converse Chuck Taylor.
Steph was wearing a black Prada technical nylon jumpsuit with black Oxford heels and Marinette was never so proud.
She succeeded in just a year, making them understand that jeans and hoodies were not the solution for everything. Only Cass who was still fighting her, but Marinette was nothing but persistent. She was going to make it.
From the boys, there was not much difference from the ones she had seen before. All between Félix and Luka. Which was disappointing, honestly.
They were all sitting, talking and drinking, Jon had disappeared with Mirelle in the middle of the dance floor and Tim had gone to the bathroom when Adrien jumped off Luka's lap.
"I love this song!" He shouted excitedly. "We have to go!" He took Marinette and Chloe's hand, pulling both without thinking twice.
Chloe laughed excitedly, turning quickly just to wave goodbye to Kagami and Marinette blew a kiss to Damian who leaned back against the couch, relaxing to watch the girl.
They had to push some people out of the way to get a good space, but soon they were dancing.
‘Why do we keep when the water runs? Why do we love if we're so mistaken?’ Adrien sang for both of them, arms up as he moved his hips.
‘Why do we leave when the chase is done? Don't search me in here, I'm already gone, baby’ Chloe sings back shaking her head while tossing her ponytail over her shoulder.
‘Why do we keep when the water runs? Why do we love?’ Marinette shrugged to take off her jacket and do a slow body roll. The sharp and sensual hips.
She looked over her shoulder, catching Damian's eye across the dance floor. He smiled; his eyes dark. Tim catches the change and laughs hard. Damian looks at his brother, his expression irritated.
Marinette dances again with her friends, putting her jacket back on her shoulders, getting lost in the music. Feeling the melody vibrate under the skin. Dancing was really wonderful.
The three of them stayed on the dance floor for what seemed like hours. Jumping, singing or just playing with each other. At one point, Sabrina joined them, but she didn't stay long.
Adrien was flushed from the effort; Chloe had a wet neck and Marinette was scalding in that leather jacket. That's when they decided to stop and go back to their table.
Chloe and Adrien were quick to sit on the plush seats, leaving only Damian's lap free for her to sit on, which she didn't hesitate to do.
"Hey, big boy." She wrapped her arms around his neck. "You come here often?"
Damian hugged her waist. "No, but if you want, I can come." He kissed her neck, his arm stretched out on the table to pick up the water bottle. "But first you have to drink water and take that jacket off to cool off."
She made a face, but didn't complained when she took off her jacket - which Damian threw on the table - and took the water from his hand. She managed to drain the bottle without having to stop to breathe, the thirst she hadn't noticed, calmed.
“Water has never tasted as good as it does today. Wow." She sighed in delight.
"I know something much better." Damian whispered in her ear and lowered his head to place a kiss on the back of her neck, enjoying the goosebumps.
"D-"
"If you guys stop flirting for a moment and pay attention to me, I would appreciate it." Adrien caught their attention.
"Agreste." Damian growled as he pulled his mouth away from her skin. “This is the second time today. Second."
Luka laughed at his friend, blinking slowly. “Easy Wayne. He just wanted Marinette to see that.” He pointed discreetly at the dance floor.
Dance floor where Alya and Lila danced against each other, trying to sensualize. Trying was the key word, since Lila didn't seem to know what she was doing. But the worst was not them trying to sensualize, but trying and, on top of that, looking at Marinette waiting for a reaction.
"Do they really think this is going to work?" Sabrina asked really surprised.
"I wish I could unsee it. Jesus." Felix grunted.
"They can be worse than Tim." Dick stifled his laughter in Kori's dress and she stroked his hair.
"It's like a live trainwreck." Kagami had a glass of whiskey in her hand, trying to hide her laughter.
"This is disturbing." Jason raised his eyebrow at Alya twerking. "Very disturbing." He was sitting on Artemis's lap, his eyes barely open, almost asleep.
"I should sue them for this." Chloe was extremely irritated.
"Think on the bright side: at least they haven't started-" Damian raised his eyebrow, before rolling his eyes. "Forget what I was going to say."
"They really are- oh my god." Marinette put her hands on her face in disbelief.
Lila and Alya were kissing. Kissing in a very obscene way, if Marinette could add.
"Guys, this is worse than I expected." Cassandra commented without emotion. A beer in her right hand and her left arm on Stephanie's shoulders.
Marinette was not really believing the general situation of what was happening. Of course, she imagined that Lila would try some of her irritating plans to humiliate her in front of everyone, but she didn't think that Lila would be allying herself with Alya in such a rude way.
For God’s sake! Alya had a boyfriend and even though she didn't really like Nino, she should at least respect him. Nino was not a bad guy, perhaps too innocent for falling for the lies of the two girls, but he was still kind and fun. Quite honest.
Seeing Alya simply dismissing his feelings as if it was nothing, made Marinette disgusted.
If she still liked either girl, that would be the moment when the feeling would end.
"I feel so bad for her boyfriend." Steph said pointing to a dark corner on the other side of the club, where Nino looked devastated.
Marinette felt her anger burn at the sight.
She had arrived at the club determined to do nothing against Lila or Alya, but that changed when she saw Nino looking so heartbroken.
Those two would pay for thinking only of themselves.
Marinette turned to her friends, the miraculous team, with a stormy expression. “Bee, Cat and Fox-” Chloe, Adrien and Sabrina straightened up, their eyes hardening. "I have a plan and I think you will like it." She smiled like the devil, the three showing equal smiles.
"What about me, Mari-hime?" Kagami asked, eager to help.
"You and everyone are going to sit here and watch."
Damian squeezed her waist, reaching for her ear again.
"I love it when you look like this. Ready to bite heads off."
Marinette turned her face only to place an innocent kiss on his lips, before moving away to Damian's ear.
"Then you will love even more what I am about to do." And she bit the lobe of his ear, pausing only to appreciate the way his fingers dug into the bare skin of her waist, before getting up.
"Now if you guys excuse us, we have a show to do."
▫▪▪
Lila was about to open her mouth again to deepen the kiss with Alya, when the music was abruptly cut off and everyone started booing.
"Sorry! Sorry!" The DJ - Allan from Mr. Dubois' class - said into the microphone. "I know you want to keep dancing, but a very peculiar request came and I thought you would love it."
She looked at the spot where Marinette had been sitting - sitting on the lap of a man Lila had never seen before - but did not find the girl. Only Tsurugi and Couffaine were still sitting there with the strange friends. None of Marinette's other three minions were there.
The man who had been with Marinette before noticed Lila's gaze and raised an eyebrow in defiance and she had to look away back to the DJ booth.
"What do you think of a live show?" Allan asked, getting excited by the enthusiasm of the audience. "Great, great- because I have four friends here who want the high point of the night!"
Lila had a really bad feeling about what was about to happen.
He turned back, waving to the people in the back and when they reached the light, Lila's heart dropped to her stomach.
Marinette, Chloe, Sabrina and Adrien were smiling like a cat that ate the canary while waving to everyone.
"You must recognize them: Adrien Agreste, Sabrina Raincomprix, Chloe Bourgeois and Marinette Dupain-Cheng, from Ms. Bustier's class!" Everyone shouted excitedly. "The stage is all yours." He said to them when he handed the microphone to Marinette.
Adrien, Chloe and Sabrina already had microphones in their hands.
The melody started and Marinette, along with the three of them, headed for the stairs that led to the dance floor. The light following in their footsteps.
La-la, la-la, la
They leaned against the railing, posing. Marinette first, Adrien behind her, Sabrina next and Chloe at the top.
Yeah, it's been a long night and the mirror's telling me to go home (go home)
Marinette started to sing, her voice rocking everyone in the club watching her and the three friends doing backing vocals.
But it's been a long time since I felt this good on my own (uh)
She ran a hand over her bare belly before going up to her hair, pushing it out of the way. Marinette was breathtaking.
Lotta years went by With my hands tied up in your ropes (your ropes) Forever and ever, no more (no more)
Marinette rocked her hips to the side, shaking her head in denial and the other three did the same, but Lila's focus was only on Dupain-Cheng.
The midnight sky is the road I'm takin' Head high up in the clouds (oh, oh)
Her voice came raw, sensual. She slid while holding the railing of the stairs, never failing to move her hips. A wild glow in the eye.
I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no Don't need to be loved by you (by you)
She got up and the four started to sing together in what looked like the chorus.
Fire in my lungs Can't bite the Devil on my tongue, oh no Don't need to be loved by you
They started down the stairs slowly, still dancing to the melody of the song.
See my lips on her mouth Everybody's talkin' now, baby Ooh, you know it's true (yeah, yeah)
It was then that Marinette, for the first time in months, looked directly at Lila. To Lila and Alya, who was shaking next to the Italian.
That I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no Don't need to be loved by you (loved by you)
She raised her hand and with her finger, signaled a 'no' before winking at them and looking away again. Lila was having trouble assimilating everything.
La-la, la-la, la
They reached the dance floor, everybody making room.
She got her hair pulled back 'Cause the sweat's drippin' off of her face (her face) Said, "It ain't so bad if I wanna make a couple mistakes"
Side by side, they waved their hands in front of their faces as if they were hot.
You should know right now that I never stayed put in one place Forever and ever, no more (no more)
They started to walk in a circle, looking at each person around them and smiling.
Marinette took the lead again.
The midnight sky is the road I'm takin' Head high up in the clouds (oh, oh)
Her voice was raw, resonating through Lila's body like a charm.
I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no Don't need to be loved by you (by you)
The four returned to stand side by side, to sing together.
Fire in my lungs Can't bite the Devil on my tongue, oh no Don't need to be loved by you
Adrien turned to Chloe and Marinette turned to Sabrina, her back to Adrien. They approached, so close that any mistakes Marinette and Sabrina could bump each other's mouths.
See my lips on her mouth Everybody's talkin' now, baby Ooh, you know it's true (yeah)
Lila felt the hatred burn in the pit of her stomach, disgusted by the intimacy that Sabrina - the same girl who had scorned everyone with Chloe for years - had with Marinette, while she only had a quick look and worst, she had to share with Alya.
That I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no Don't need to be loved by you (by you)
They moved away from each other and started walking on the dance floor, messing with people. Marinette getting closer and closer to her.
Until she stopped in front of Lila.
Oh I don't hide, blurry eyes like you
And sang to her. Directly to her. Marinette inches from her. If Lila reached out, she could touch Mari's skin again.
Like you
Marinette looked up at someone - Alya - behind her for a moment, before leaving again.
The meaning in the letter does not go unnoticed by either.
I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no I don't need to be loved by you (by you)
They walked on the dance floor again singing and dancing together.
Fire in my lungs Can't bite the Devil on my tongue, oh no Don't need to be loved by you
Marinette approached someone, the same guy as before, the one she was sitting on the lap. He was a few people away from Lila, but even with the distance, she was able to see the way his eyes were dark with possessiveness.
He advanced, being pulled by Marinette, before she turned her back to him making him embrace her.
See his hands 'round my waist Thought you never be replaced, baby Ooh, you know it's true (yeah)
Lila saw his hands go over Marinette's hips, the comfortable way he hid his face in her neck and the swing of her hips against his. As if it were normal for them.
Jealousy was burning again in Lila's chest.
That I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no Don't need to be loved by you (yeah)
Marinette looked up, meeting Lila's. The lyrics of the song were like a knife in her skin.
La-la, la-la, la, la-la
She saw Marinette turn around in his arms and kiss him. Slowly and deeply, completely oblivious to the screams of the audience.
You know it's true, you know it's true Loved by you
The others finished singing the song and with the end of the song, the hope that Marinette would return to her died.
But Lila would make her regret that.

"MARI, I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD SING!" Kori shouted over the applause.
"I didn't know the three of you sang." Conner commented in surprise.
"I think everything they do comes out well." Jon snorted.
"Thanks, guys." Marinette laughed sheepishly. It was still difficult to receive so much praise.
"You sang like a Rockstar, Bugnette." Jason raised his hand and she hit a hi-five.
"That's why I always invite her to be part of my music." Luka laughed; arms wrapped around Adrien.
"Damian doesn't seem happy about it at all." Tim commented, looking at his sullen brother.
"Oh no. He's like that because you interrupted us four times tonight.” Marinette replied.
"I'm surprised he hasn't tried to kill us yet." Dick laughed.
After the group of friends finished singing, they were approached by friends excited by the show. Damian getting annoyed at being interrupted for the third time that night.
Chloe had kissed Kagami, Adrien jumped into Luka's arms, Sabrina and Félix having a moment; but when Damian tried to monopolize Marinette, his family appeared to interrupt them.
"It’s because I’m without my katana here, otherwise I would have already killed you."
"Uh-oh here comes trouble." Adrien looked over Marinette's shoulder and she feared what it was about, but she turned nonetheless.
And for sure. There was a problem.
Alya, Lila and the entire class, even a constipated-looking Nino, walking up to them.
"And here they come wanting to be humiliated again." Sabrina shook her head in disbelief.
When the class reached them, Marinette was able to notice Alya's murderous look at Damian, as Lila had a smug smile on her face and Nathaniel's apologetic look.
"Good night, Marinette." Lila greeted, the fake sweet tone already taking Mari's patience.
"So, it's him, huh." Alya snarled, Nino looked like he was about to cry.
"He...?" Damian frowned.
"You must be Marinette's boyfriend." Lila doesn’t answer the unspoken question. "My name is Lila Rossi; it is a pleasure to finally meet you." She raised her hand to him, but he didn't react. Still looking at the group with contempt.
"Damian." He replied dryly.
The two had a silent dispute to face.
"Ah- hi, Juleka!" Adrien waved at the girl and she looked away, refusing to wave back. Luka had a sad gleam in his eyes.
Juleka was not part of the group of people who attacked them verbally, but she also remained neutral, since Rose really believed in the bullshit that Lila told. She didn't want to become a pariah of the class like Marinette, and it hit the Couffaine siblings hard.
Which got worse with the discovery that Jagged was Luka's father and that Luka was leaving Kitty Section to live with him in Gotham.
Juleka never forgave him for it and blamed Adrien for supporting Luka's departure
"So, it was with you that Marinette cheated on Alya, huh." Alix said without caring about anything.
"You aren’t that great." Kim looked analytically at Damian and Marinette felt Damian exhale heavily.
"Who said that?" Marinette asked Alix.
Ivan raised an eyebrow at her. "It's common knowledge that you cheated on Alya, Marinette."
"Don't act innocent!" Alya shouted. "I can't believe you exchanged a year of relationship to be with this... ugh."
Chloe stepped forward to defend her friends, but Marinette stopped her.
"Alya, whether you believe it or not, I never cheated on you." She said calmly.
Alya scoffed. "It seems to me that you got over it really fast, since you were exchanging spit with this one."
Marinette blew out an incredulous breath. “We broke up almost three years ago, Alya. Did you really think I was going to be single forever?”
Max frowned upset. "People who can't stay faithful shouldn't be dating."
"I agree with you, Max. I'm glad I was never unfaithful." Marinette responded as calmly as she could at that moment.
"You should have more compassion for other people, Marinette." Lila decided to get involved. "Knowing that Alya would be hurt to see you being cozy with your... boyfriend." A false expression of concern on her face.
She looked at the Italian, her face blank. Lila hadn't noticed the opening she left for Marinette.
"What are you talking about, Lila?" She asked, confusion on her face. "You didn't seem concerned about Alya when we dated for six months after she broke up with me."
Alya turned to face Lila, surprised by Marinette's words. The class was in the same state.
"What are you talking about, Marinette?" Rose asked, shock clear in her expression.
“Lila, after Alya broke up with me, came to me offering a shoulder to cry. She stayed by my side while I tried to forget about Alya and in the end, we started dating.”
"YOU WHAT?!" Alya snarled.
Marinette tilted her head. "I thought you told them, Lila."
Lila's eyes were wide, not knowing what to say.
“But why would Lila date you, if she was the one who said you were cheating on Alya? It doesn't make sense.” Nino pointed.
"Maybe because Marinette never cheated on Alya and Lila lied to you about everything." Felix replied.
Alya shook her head in denial. "This has to be a lie, because if it's true..."
"... If true, you broke up with your girlfriend just so that Lila would have the opportunity to date her." Nathaniel commented, a devilish smile on his lips.
"It's a lie, guys!" Lila shouted. "She's just saying that to mess you!"
Alya stopped shaking her head, considering Lila's words.
"I have proof." Marinette said and Lila stiffened. “But it doesn't matter anymore. Today is the last day I have to see you, so it makes no difference whether you believe me or not.”
"Last day?" Lila asked curiously.
"Yeah. I'm going to live in Gotham with these losers here.” And he pointed to the batfam, superboys - even if they were from Metropolis -, alien, amazon and the miraculous team behind her. "Today is our farewell." She shrugged.
"Oh." Alya sighed.
Lila didn't like what she heard. Angry again.
"So what? You are leaving just like this? Are you going to leave me to live with this nobody?! "
Damian snarled. "What did you call me?!"
"Damian." Marinette said and he stepped back. “And yes, Lila. I will leave just like this. I owe you no satisfaction from what I do or don't do. You decided to lie to me and I decided that you would not be part of it.”
She picked up the jacket on the table and took Damian's hand. The party was over for her.
“I grew up and you should do the same. Goodbye."
Deciding to leave as soon as possible, Marinette did not wait for Lila's answer and pulled Damian away.
She was an adult now; teenage intrigues were no longer part of her daily life.
When the two reached the Moulin Rouge's sidewalk, Marinette turned to Damian.
"So, how about a tour in your hotel room?" She winked at him.
Damian smiled beatifically. "I thought you'd never ask."
Tikki was right. Waiting was worth it.
BONUS #1:
"Hey, Damian did you saw Ma- oh"
“Okay, this is it. Run Agreste.”
"But-"
"Shut up and run."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"...!"
"LUKA HELP ME!!!"
BONUS #2:
Marinette picked up the phone, noting that there were two voicemail notifications.
She was surprised, since everyone who had that number was in the gardens enjoying Alfred's birthday party.
Marinette put the phone to her ear, curiosity eating at her.
"Hello, Mari?" She inhaled hard. How did Alya get her phone number? “Hi, it's me Alya, Alya Césaire. Hah of course you know who I am... You, uh, must be wondering how I got your number... I got it from Nathaniel. Don't be mad at him, please! I needed to talk to you, but it's like you moved to Narnia. You probably blocked me, hah.”
She felt tears prick her eyes. As much as Marinette held a grudge against Alya, she still missed the friendship they shared and hearing her voice like that was like putting salt in the wound.
“Mari- Marinette. I wanted to apologize. I'm sorry for everything.” Tears falling freely. “I know that just words won't undo everything I did or said to you, but I needed you to know that I regret everything. I loved you, I still love you, but I see that feeling has rotted and blossomed into the worst of me. You didn't deserve anything that we did for you. I want you to understand that I was stupid, childish and did not weigh the consequences of my actions, but that I am trying to improve-“ The signal for the end of the voicemail rang and Marinette immediately clicked on the second message.
“Sorry, I reached the time limit. Hah. After that night at the club, I came home and thought about everything a lot. Nino has been helping me daily and- I'm grateful Mari, because Nino was kind enough to forgive me for what I did. I think I'm really falling in love with him now that I'm not blinded by meanness. Lila is no longer in Paris. I may have... left some videos at the Italian embassy for her mother to see and even if she is of age, some things would be really harmful for Ms. Rossi at the embassy, so the two left Paris. The last thing I heard was that she was arrested for stalking a girl from university she was attending. Anyway. I thank Mari, for being my best friend, my girlfriend. I love you. Bye." The finishing beep rang again and Marinette put the phone down.
The tears came down salty, wetting the beautiful fabric of her summer dress. She felt light, relieved as if a heavy weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
Marinette knew it would take her a while to actually talk to Alya, but deep down she knew she had already forgiven the girl for everything.
"Mari?" She heard Damian's voice and the silent footsteps on the wooden floor.
She quickly wiped away her tears, trying to compose herself. "I'm here, Dames."
He entered the room worried. Her voice seemed unsteady. "Hey-" Damian stopped, observing the state she was in and ran to her side on the bed. "What happened, habibit?"
Marinette pressed her forehead against his, a shy smile on her lips. "I'm fine, love." Damian put his arm around her, pulling the girl onto his lap. "Really. I'm fine. No need to worry."
Damian kissed her lips tenderly. "Of course I worry. I will always worry about you.”
She pulled him in again for a kiss. Longer, but no less sweet.
"I love you, Damian Wayne."
"I love you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng."

______________________
You didn’t think at this age you would have to be sneaking around with a boy. Let alone sneaking around with a boy because of your older brother Jeremy.
Yet here you are, your back pressed up against the closet that was a part of Julie’s bedroom set. Your hands entangled in the blond hair that was attached to the boy who had his lips pressed up against your neck. Faint gasps of pleasure escaping your lips.
As much as you loved moments like this and loved having the handsome boy’s body pressed against yours, you were hyper aware of the voices and bodies that were around set that sounded like they were making their way towards the two of you.
“Owen...” You do your best to get out but his mouth working wonders on your neck makes it almost impossible.
The voices get closer.
“Owen!” This time you succeed and are able to pull your body from his, “I think people are coming!”
He looks around panicked, now hearing the voices too since he was pulled back to reality.
“Get in the closet.” As the words leave Owen’s mouth, he starts to open the door and push you in.
“What? No?” You tell him trying to hold your ground, “You get in the closet.”
You can tell Owen is trying to hold in his laugh based on the look on his face.
“Y/N, you think they’re not going to think it’s weird if you’re the one that’s just alone in here?” He pauses, “or would it make more sense if they guy who acts on the show is alone in the set they’re going to shoot on later.”
“Ugh fine!” His logic makes sense, so you let him push you into the closet and close the door behind him.
You can’t believe that this is the scenario you got yourself in. You probably could have avoided it if it weren’t for your brother Jeremy, but alas here you were.
“Owen, what are you doing here?” Speak of the devil, the voice belongs to your brother.
“Well I thought the next scene was here but turns out I was wrong; I was just about to leave.”
On the other side of the door you would have witnessed Jeremy, Charlie, and Carolynn all give each other a look, not fulling believing the words that left Owen’s mouth. He had been acting weird lately and they had noticed.
“Anyways, Care what are you doing here?” Owen tried to change the topic of conversation, again it was noted.
“Oh uh, I was going to take Y/N to lunch and then shopping to have a girls day with her! But I can’t find her.”
Carolynn had decided that a girls day for you two would be a good idea, especially after the fight you and Jeremy had gotten in just days prior. The atmosphere around the two siblings was still tense so she was trying to ease the situation.
Your mind flashes back to the fight just days prior.
“Y/N, hello, Y/N,” your brother is waving his hand in front of your face to get your attention, “earth to Y/N.”
His voice snapping you out of your gaze.
“What Jeremy?” You ask frustrated at your brothers antics.
“I was asking you a question but you couldn’t seem to pay attention to anything else except for my friend.” Both you and Jeremy roll your eyes at his words.
“Shut up Jer, I wasn’t starting! I just got lost in my thoughts.” You try brushing off his words, not wanting to get into this with him or expose what truly was going on.
“Well good because the last person you can be with is Owen.”
His words shock you. They even shock Carolynn. You both knew Jeremy was protective but he was never so blatant about something like that.
“Excuse me?”
“I said what I said Y/N, the last person you could be with is one of my best buddies, not happening!”
Again, you’re shocked by him.
“I think I’m old enough to make decisions on who I can and cannot date Jeremy, even if one happens to be a friend of yours.”
At your words, Jeremy has himself on his feet. His anger evident on face. You’ve seen him mad before but not like this. It was weird.
“Seriously Y/N? You don’t get it. You can’t date Owen not only because he’s my friend but because you’ll just get in the way of things and I won’t have you ruining my friendship with him when you get bored of him like you always do with your crushes. So get over it.”
You can feel the tears well up in your eyes at your brothers words. You didn’t realize how low he thought of you.
“Wow Jer. I didn’t realize how badly you thought of me but I guess thanks for letting me know! Just because you’re married doesn’t mean you know everything that has to do with relationships. But thanks.”
With that you’re on your feet, fuming at Jeremy. His face falls at your words, realizing what actually came out of his mouth. Instant regret filling him.
Truth be told, he was just weirded out about the idea of you and Owen together, knowing both of you had a crush on one another. Yet he didn’t know what was already happening between the two of you.
Carolynn’s words pull you from your flashback of the fight.
“Maybe I should just call her?” Panic fills both you and Owen.
“No!” Everyone gives him weird looks due to the outburst, “I actually thought I saw her down by the trailers on my way over here!”
“Oh okay, I guess I will go find her then. Bye guys!” Carolynn leaves them waving to go to try to find you not knowing you were about a foot away from her.
That leaves the three boys together and you still crouched in the closet. All three of them just stand there looking at one another awkwardly.
“Well, they actually need us at the school set so we should get going.” Charlie is the one to break the silence.
Jeremy just nods and follows his lead.
“I’ll be right behind you guys; I lost my phone in here so I have to find it.”
The two boys shared a look, not trusting Owen, but still leaving him on his own.
Once you hear their footsteps fade, you open the closet door and peek around it.
“Have you still not talked to him since your fight the other day?”  Owen reaches out to grab your hand and pulls you in front of him as he sits on the bed.
“Nope, I haven’t. We both have pretty much been avoiding each other.” You shrug your shoulders, “which hasn’t been hard since he leaves early and comes home late.”
All Owen does is nod back to you and moves to stand up and place his lips on yours.
You let him guide your lips for a little longer before you pull away. Your brothers words swirling through your head.
“I just wish he would mind his own business.” You say as you push Owen off of you. He looks at you with sympathy.
“He just loves you and wants to look out for you and based on what you said the fight was about I would say the same for me as well?” He ends his statement with a question not really knowing the answer.
“Besides I get him not wanting his friend to have a friends with benefits relationship with his younger sister.”
Your eyes widen at his words, that hurt. Friends with benefits relationship. Just a benefits relationship. You thought it was more than that.
You pull your hands from Owen and step back to put space between you guys. Owen notices and tries to grab your hands again but you don’t let him.
“Oh just a friends with benefits relationship. You’re right.” Owen can hear the hurt on your voice, his words now ringing in his head.
“Shit Y/N, that’s not what I meant, I...”
“No, Owen you’re right! This is just a benefits relationship so maybe we should just end it now so I don’t have to deal with the attitude from my brother anymore thinking I like you!”
“Y/N, come on.”
He tries to reach for you again but again you step away from him. The tears in your eyes no longer welling but falling freely down your cheeks.
You turn on your heel and book it out of the set, Owen hot on your heels calling your name. But you don’t stop. You keep running through the set, weaving through the people, until you run into a chest.
You look up and through your blurry vision you can see your brother. He immediately wraps his arms around you and you bury your face in his chest, your tears seeping through his shirt.
“What’s the matter Y/N? What’s wrong?” Instead of the frustration you’ve heard from him the last few days, all you hear is worry.
“Y/N!” Owen’s loud voice pulls your head from Jeremy’s chest. He stops when he’s in front of you just a few feet away, looking at the two of you.
Jeremy looks at you and then Owen, his eyes go back and forth for a few seconds before it seems like it all clicked.
Jeremy is pulling you from his body and pushing you to stand to the side of him, next to Carolynn and Charlie who made their way over to you once they saw you crying in his chest.
“What did you do?” Jeremy says through clenched teeth, no one had ever saw him this angry or sound so scary.
“Nothing Jer,” Owen goes to move around your brother but he stops him, “just let me go, I need to talk to her.”
“No, you’re not talking to her, Owen. It looks like you’ve done enough.” The anger still seething through Jeremy.
“You don’t even know what you’re talking about dude, just let me talk to her.” Again he tries to move past him and to you. Carolynn pulls you a little closer to her at his actions.
“I said no Owen. See!” Jeremy turns to look at you and then back at Owen, “I told you this was a bad idea! Now look, you’ve hurt my sister and now I can’t be your friend anymore because all I want to do is punch you now.”
Everyone chuckles a little at Jeremy’s words, even though tensions were high, everyone heard the falter in his voice when he said that because everyone knew Jeremy was the softest person.
“Dude like I said you don’t know what you’re talking about please just let me go so I can talk to her!”
“No Owen, you...” Owen’s voice loud and yelling cuts Jeremy off.
“Dude I love her! I love her okay? And I said something dumb trying to hide it so I wouldn’t complicate anything more between you guys because you were already acting weird at just the idea of us liking one another but I love her and want to be with her.” His voice slowly turns into a whisper at the end. Owen didn’t think this would be the time he would have admitted his feelings for you but it happened.
“What?” Both you and Jeremy at the same time. Everyone was shocked to say the least.
Owen just shyly smiles at everyone, not knowing what to say anymore.
You slowly step away from Carolynn and walk up behind Jeremy to stand next to him. Owen still just a few feet in front of the two of you.
“You said what?” Your shocked at his confession but need to hear him say it again to believe it.
Owen stands and just stares at you for a few second before he makes his way toward you. He stops once he is in front of you, this time when he reaches for your hands you don’t pull away.
The only person that moves is Jeremy so he can turn and face you guys.
“I love you Y/N, and I’m pretty sure I have since the minute you walked through set the first day you got here.” He smiles at you, which you return, “I’ve known for a while now but I got nervous because you were always saying we had to keep us a secret and then I got extra nervous when you told me about the fight so I thought if I just made us a casual thing in my head, I would believe it and my feelings would go away.”
You just look up at him, at a loss for words.
“Obviously that wasn’t the right move.”
You both chuckle at his words.
“I mean it though when I say it Y/N, I love you and I would much rather be in a real relationship than continue with the sneaking around.”
Without another word, you have your arms thrown around Owen’s neck and are pulling him down to have his lips meet yours. It was a short lived kiss because you needed to get how you felt out.
“I love you too Owen.”
Then your lips are back on each other’s, moving together passionately.
“Okay, ew! Gross! Stop that!” Jeremy is the one to make you two pull away, well more force you two as he moves to stand in between you guys.
“I really don’t need to be seeing that.” Everyone laughs at the look on his face and at his words. You shove your hand onto his face and push him away laughing.
“Well you’re going to have to get used to it big bro!” Again everyone is laughing at the look on his face.
“Okay I know this is like a happy thing considering the moments prior but is anyone else curious at how long they were sneaking around without anyone knowing?” Charlie chimes in, shocked that you were actually able to keep it a secret from everyone.
“Well,” you begin, looking at Owen trying to think how long it had been, “I moved in with them 5 months ago so I would say at least 4?”
You weren’t quite sure, the start of the two of you was quite a blur. A real whirlwind romance if you will.
“That sounds about right.” Owen shrugs his shoulders agreeing with you.
“Okay that’s impressive.” Charlie says and again everyone laughs.
“Alright hold on,” now it’s Jeremy’s turn to chime in again, “I don’t know how I feel about all this quite yet,” he says while moving his arms around the two of you, “but Y/N looks happy so I guess it’s fine. But I swear if you hurt her Owen Patrick Joyner, I don’t know what I will do but it will be something!” Jeremy says trying to keep his best stern face.
“Alright slow down there tiger.” Carolynn says, wrapping her arm around his waist and laughing. “I’m sure he will treat her perfectly, won’t you Owen?”
“Of course I will!”
He wraps his arms around your waist to pull you in for a hug and press his lips against yours again.
“Alright I just don’t need to see that okay!” Jeremy is pulling you away from Owen laughing, “And I’m sorry about the other day Y/N. I just got freaked out about the idea but of course I trust you and Owen. I guess now even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have a choice, but I am glad you’re happy that’s all I want for you.”
You wrap your arms around your brother, hugging him tightly. “I know Jer, and I appreciate that. Even if you are an annoying older brother sometimes.”
“Oh shut it, you love me.” He says, ruffling your hair. “Ya, ya, ya. I love you whatever.” You say shoving his arm away.
“Love you too sis!”
“Alright can I have my girlfriend back please?” Owen says pulling you away from Jeremy now.
“Girlfriend? No one here was asked to be a girlfriend.” You say sassily back to Owen, causing everyone to laugh.
Again he is wrapping his arms around your waist to keep you in front of him and looking at him.
“You’re right, my bad! Y/N would you please be my girlfriend?”
A huge smile on both your faces. “I would love to be your girlfriend Owen!”
You lean in to connect your lips to his yet again. Loving the feeling of them on yours, it was one you would never get tired of.
“Hey! What did I say! Gross!”
And you pull apart yet again because of your brothers words.
“Sorry!” Both you and Owen say in sync laughing.
“Ya, ya, whatever!” Jeremy says turning to walk away.
Owen leans down to press a quick kiss on your lips, both of you pull apart smiling. Everything was finally good again; you’ve got your brother and now your boyfriend. Nothing could get better than that.

Okay I'm talking about Charlie Weasley again bc he's my lil bean and I love him... how do you think the Weasleys would react if he like, brought you home for Christmas? He didn't tell anyone either he just showed up and was like, "Everyone, meet my girlfriend," and everyones just like *surprise pikachu face* and like they had a hunch he had a girlfriend but he never said anything about it so WTF CHARLES
Ok so maybe he is home for Christmas sand stuff right and maybe you’re not coming until like a week later or something so this gives Charlie the time to ask his mum if ✨a friend✨ can come over because maybe your relationship is a bit new and he is very nervous because he has never brought anyone home before.
Fred and George definitely ask if it’s a dragon and they keep this joke running for the whole week and keep asking what type of dragon it is and how big it is and Charlie gets so frustrated and is like ‘it’s not a fucking dragon😤’ and Fred and George are like ‘that’s exactly what someone who doesn’t want to get yelled at by mum for bringing home a dragon would say’
Anyways I really do feel like the rest of the siblings end up going along with the joke as well and Charlie is just so frustrated but he knows that they’ll eventually see you’re not a dragon and so he tries just thinking about how excited he’ll be when you finally turn up.
Charlie makes you meet him a good distance away from the burrow so he can see you privately before you’re introduced to the ‘craziness of his family’ as he always says and the whole time he is walking you there he is telling you how annoying they’re being and how he can’t wait to shut them up.
And then as soon as you walk in and he introduces you as his girl/boyfriend everyone is staring at you like the pikachu face and fred and george are like ‘this isn’t a dragon :/’ and Charlie is about to lose his actual shit but he doesn’t care because you’re there and Molly is hugging you and you’re meeting everyone.
And then later that night Molly is telling Charlie that he should’ve told her you were more than a friend and Fred and George are like ‘we told you it was more than a friend mum’ and Molly is glaring at them because they forgot to mention that they were telling her it was a dragon instead.

It was the most cliche scenario in the book. You had agreed to join your best friend Charlie on his trip to Hawaii with his cast mates, and somehow there had been a mix up and instead of having two beds in the room you were sharing with Charlie, there was only one.
Which would be perfectly fine, except for the fact that you were harbouring a crush the size of Jupiter on that same best friend you would be forced to share a bed with for the next few weeks.
“You’ll be fine.” Carolynn reassured you after you had finished ranting about the mix up, as the two of you and Tori laid on sun loungers as the boys wrestled in the ocean.
“You sure about that?” You questioned. “You don’t even know the worst part.”
“That you’re in love with Charlie?” Tori asked. Your eyes widened.
“How did you know?” You spluttered. She grinned.
“Y/N it’s obvious. Just like it’s obvious he feels the exact same way about you.” She explained, and you cringed.
“Do you think he knows?” Tori and Carolynn shook their heads.
“Trust us, he’s just as oblivious as you are.” Carolynn teased, and you pouted.
“I’m not oblivious.” You muttered and the girls giggled.
“Sure you’re not.” Tori said, as they exchanged a knowing look.
You sighed, leaning back onto your chair and shutting your eyes. It wouldn’t be that bad.
-
If there was a competition running for famous last words, you would definitely get a prize for saying it wouldn’t be that bad.
Watching as your best friend, the boy you had been in love with forever, entered the room with only a towel around his waist, body still wet from his shower, you sure regretted saying that it wouldn't be bad because clearly you had temped some kind of fate.
You tried to ignore him, deciding that the best plan would be to just focus on the TV, but Charlie had other plans.
“Do you want me to sleep on the floor?” Charlie questioned, running a towel through his wet hair. You swallowed as you looked back over at him, and shook your head, trying to ignore the droplets of water running down his chest.
“No it’s fine, we’ve shared a bed before.”
“Okay.” Charlie nodded. He ran the towel down his chest and you tried to focus your attention back on the TV in front of you and not the dripping wet, very attractive, half naked boy across the room.
Charlie crossed the room, grabbing his clothes from a pile, and without a second thought, dropped the towel from around his waist.
“Charlie!” You exclaimed with a choke, your face going bright red as you try to look anywhere but your completely naked best friend. Charlie just laughed.
“Nothing you haven’t seen before. Remember when we were kids and we used to take baths together?” He said cheekily.
“Yeah when we were like 7. Not fully grown adults.” You replied.
“So? You’ve seen a dick before, right?” He asked. You rolled your eyes.
“Yes, but that’s not the point.” You mumbled. Charlie didn’t move.
“Dude! Just put your fucking pants on.” You exclaimed. Charlie shook his head, finishing drying himself off before throwing his towel at your head.
He pulled a pair of sweatpants on before flopping down on the bed next to you. You looked at him and he looked up at you with a smirk.
“Enjoy the show?” He teased. You flicked the towel at him as he laughed loudly.
“No you asshole.” You muttered.
“Oh yeah? Then why are you so turned on right now?” He questioned. You blushed even darker.
“I’m not.” You denied. Charlie raised an eyebrow.
“You sure about that?” He sat up, moving closer to you so that you could feel his hot breath on your lips. Your heart was racing.
“Charlie, what are you doing?” You managed to stutter out.
“You can feel it too, right? The tension between us?” He questioned. You didn’t respond so he continued. “The same tension that’s been around for years. I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling it since we were just kids. I’ve been in love with you since I was 12.”
You froze at his confession.
“You what?” Your voice was shaky.
“I’m in love with you.” He repeated. You threw yourself towards him, connecting your lips with his in a heated kiss.
“I love you too.” You told him. He groaned, flipping you over so that he was hovering over you.
“Do you want to fuck me as bad as I want to fuck you?” His voice was low.
“Please.” You whimpered, and Charlie connected your lips again, his hips grinding down into yours. You moaned into his mouth, allowing him a chance to slip his tongue into his mouth.
“Char.” You groaned, your hands threading through his damp hair.
“You want me to fuck you?” He repeated, mumbling against your lips. You nodded eagerly. He pulled away from your lips and began to kiss down your neck, biting and sucking to leave marks that you knew you were going to struggle to cover in the next few days.
He pulled away, sitting up, watching as you pulled your oversized shirt off, leaving you in just panties. His eyes lingered on your naked chest for a few seconds before he looked back up, his eyes meeting yours.
“Do you still have that thing in your arm to stop you from getting pregnant?” He questioned. You nodded.
“Good, cause I don’t have a condom. Wasn’t really expecting to fuck my best friend on this trip.” He admitted. You laughed, pulling him back down to kiss him again.
His hands made their way up to cup your breasts, his calloused thumb flicking over one of your nipples.
You whimpered again as he moved to suck on your nipple, his tongue flicking at the sensitive skin.
“Can you hurry up and fuck me?” You said, and Charlie chucked.
“Impatient much.” He teased, but he obeyed nonetheless, moving to pull off his sweatpants. You copied, pulling off your panties, and all of the sudden it hit you what was about to happen.
“Oh my god.” You mumbled.
“What?” Charlie frowned. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” You replied. “Just realised we’re about to fuck.”
Charlie laughed.
“No kidding.” He teased. “You know we don’t have to if you don’t feel ready.”
“No, no, I want to. It’s just... I’ve been dreaming of this for so long and now it’s finally happening.” Charlie smiled softly at your words.
“Hey, I love you.” He said, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips.
“I love you too.” You replied. “Anyways, now that the sappy moment is over, can we get back to business now?”
Charlie laughed, pushing you back onto the bed before hovering over you.
“Ready?” He questioned. You nodded, opening your legs. He lent down and kissed you again, the tip of his dick brushing against your clit, and without a warning he pushed into you.
You gasped slightly at the discomfort as he slowly slid into you, waiting once he bottomed out.
“Okay, ready.” You told him after a moment, and he nodded before pulling almost completely out and slamming back into you. You couldn’t help but scream out in pleasure, and Charlie grinned, covering your mouth.
“Shh, don’t want anyone to hear us.” He said, reminding you that Owen was in the room just next door. You nodded, and the next time he thrusted he muffled your moans with his hand.
“I’ve been dreaming about this for so long, and you’re even better than I imagined. So tight and warm around me.” Charlie spoke as he thrusted. “And don’t even get me started on your tits, god they’re perfect. Oh and that ass, I’ve always loved your ass.”
You blushed at his words.
“You really never shut up do you?” You said, and Charlie grinned.
“Nope. Talking is kinda my thing.” He told you, his pace speeding up slightly.
“Gee who would have thought.” You mumbled sarcastically.
“Hey, no sarcasm while we’re fucking.” Charlie reprimanded.
“Can we not have a normal fucking conversation right now? Surprised you haven’t commented on the weather yet.” You groaned, the sound turning into one of pleasure as Charlie hit your g-spot.
“Apparently there’s a storm coming tomorrow.” Charlie commented. You glared at him.
“Charles I swear to god.”
He fell silent, the only sound the both of your heavy breathing, and the sound of skin slapping together. After a moment he spoke up again.
“Can’t do quiet. My mouth just needs to be doing something.” He whined, and you pulled him down to connect your lips, sliding your tongue into his mouth as your orgasm rapidly approached.
Charlie sped up again and you moaned into his mouth. He pulled away quickly.
“I’m so close.” He told you. You nodded.
“Me too.” You replied. He pulled you in for another kiss and with a few last thrusts he came inside you, causing you to topple over the edge too, walls clenching around him as you came.
He pulled out and collapsed on top of you, his damp hair pressed against your cheek.
“We have to do this again sometime.” He sighed, snuggling into you. You smiled softly before agreeing.
Now that you had slept with Charlie, you didn’t think you could ever go back to the way things were.
And honestly? Neither of you wanted to.

Chapter 1: What Lies Ahead
Verna Malinda had been anxiously awaiting the beginning of her fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, even with a detention of indeterminate length looming in front of her. She knew in her heart that this year was going to be important, and not just because of the O.W.L. examinations but because of the events of last June, and the chance of finding Jacob in the next vault. For Verna, summers had, for the past four years, felt like an inescapable limbo. Every year she longed to be back at Hogwarts, delving into the mystery of the Cursed Vaults. This year, however, she had been elected as a prefect to her great surprise. She hadn’t really considered prefectdom as something to aspire to, because all her time was spent either breaking the rules or planning to break them. Was it really appropriate for a Hogwarts prefect to be serving detention? Mysterious were the ways of Professor Dumbledore.

As the Hogwarts Express whistled as a signal for departure, Verna waved to her father from the train’s window and then turned to her friend, Rowan Khanna, the one out of the two of them who should’ve been the prefect. Rowan pushed their glasses up their nose and smiled.
“What is it?”
“I ought to go find Charlie,” Verna said as the train picked up speed. She’d been feeling all kinds of weird about talking to Rowan ever since she got the letter proclaiming her prefect. It had been Rowan’s ambition to claim that spot ever since year one, and somehow Verna had managed it even though she hadn’t even tried.
“Alright, I’ll find Ben. We’ll hold a spot for you, if you get a moment to come sit with us,” Rowan replied and the two headed their separate ways. So far it didn’t seem like Rowan was holding Verna’s election as a prefect against her. Even in their letters, Rowan had only seemed supportive and proud. They had been friends since first year, and Verna hadn’t exactly stolen Rowan’s spot on purpose. In fact, she was fairly certain she had entirely too much on her plate for this year even without being a prefect.
~
Once Verna located Charlie Weasley, Gryffindor’s resident Dragon-enthusiast and Quidditch hero, and as it happened, her fellow prefect, the two of them headed to the special carriage meant for prefects and the Head Boy and Girl.
“What in Merlin’s name possessed Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall to make you and I prefects?” asked Charlie, sounding genuinely confused, although in his defence, it was truly baffling.
“I have a theory that it’s to make us so busy we won’t have time to do any curse-breaking,” Verna reasoned.
“Bill’s a prefect and he’s had plenty of time,” Charlie argued but then added: “Though maybe that’s why he became the Head Boy… Wow, actually you might be right.”
“Thanks Chaz,” Verna laughed as the two entered the prefect carriage. It was already quite packed with new and old prefects, as well as Bill and the Head Girl, Ella Higgs.
“Are we late because I had to wait for you…?” Charlie whispered and Verna shushed him as Ella and Bill started to congratulate them on their achievement. Verna locked eyes with a certain Slytherin student across the carriage. Apparently Merula Snyde had also become a prefect. Verna should’ve expected as much. Her hair looked tousled as usual, but she had elected to sport a dark eye-makeup, which somehow made the purple of her eyes look even more prominent. Merula gave her a look of loathing and then promptly ignored her. Verna’s mood sunk.
“Hi Verna!” came a greeting from among the other fifth-year prefects. It was Matthew Luther, a Ravenclaw chaser who had given Verna a run for her galleons last quidditch season. Verna was pleased to see not only complete arseholes had become prefects.
“Hey!” Verna replied, taking her place among the others.
“Hi Luther,” Charlie whispered, smiling.
“Nice to see you two made it as prefects.”
Verna was about to answer but was quickly silenced by Bill who very deliberately raised his voice and started his introduction to the wonderful world of prefectdom, looking at the three of them meaningfully.
~
After nearly an hour of instruction, Bill and Ella bade them pleasant journey and reminded them of their job to patrol the corridors in regular intervals. After that, many returned to their friends or settled down in the prefects’ carriage. Bill walked up to Verna and Charlie.
“Congrats on becoming a prefect Verna!” he said and slapped her arm for good measure.
“Thanks, I’ll be sure to be as responsible as you, William.”
Bill laughed and Charlie rolled his eyes.
“Well, I for one think you two will do just fine,” added Bill.
“If you say so…” Charlie mused. “Should we find Rowan and Ben?” he asked Verna.
“Yeah, see you later Bill!”
“Remember to patrol the corridors! And don’t abuse your power!” Bill called after them as Verna and Charlie headed back to find the compartment their friends were sitting in.
“I don’t think he actually has as much faith in us as he lets on…” Charlie said.
“Yeah, probably not. After all he lives with you, and I’m the one who roped him into this curse-breaking stuff in the first place.”
“Yeah, at the ripe old age of 13.” reminded Charlie. Verna was really starting to doubt Professor Dumbledore’s judgement.
~
Rowan and Ben had found a carriage and reserved spots for them. The two seemed in good spirits and Verna felt much more relaxed. If Rowan was on her side, then everything was going to be okay. Even Ben seemed to be okay, even after he was used to attack Verna under the imperius curse last year.
“How was it?” asked Ben as Verna and Charlie took their seats. He glanced quickly at Rowan, who nodded encouragingly. Verna figured Rowan and Ben had been discussing the incident before she and Charlie arrived. The food trolley had passed ages ago, so Verna nicked a treacle tart from Rowan who gave her an exasperated but amused look.
“Pretty standard stuff, honestly. They explained everything we were told in the briefing about prefects at the end of last year,” explained Charlie.
“Who else was elected?” Rowan inquired.
“Oh you’ll never guess Slytherin’s-“
“Merula,” Rowan said before Charlie could finish.
“Yeah, and she seemed right pleased about it too, I bet she’s gonna have a blast abusing her position,” Verna grumbled. She really was not looking forward to yet another thing to compete over with Merula.
“Not if we abuse our position first,” Charlie said, grinning.
“No,” Rowan admonished them when they saw Verna’s matching grin.
“I’ll disown you both if you sink to her level.”
Both Charlie and Verna stopped grinning.
“Sorry Rowan,” Verna said bashfully. “We’ll try our best to make you proud.”
Rowan groaned in mock-annoyance, and all four of them laughed at the absurdity of the notion of Charlie and Verna as prefects. Even Ben. Verna’s hopes for the year were rejuvenated a little.
~
The rest of the journey went by in a relatively normal manner. Verna and Charlie patrolled the corridors every now and then but didn’t face any incidents. Tonks gave them both grief about becoming prefects though, and loudly announced that this is why she had trust issues. Verna couldn’t exactly blame her, they had after, pulled pranks together in the past and prefects had a well-earned reputation of being spoilsports. After sunset, the train arrived at the Hogsmeade Station and Charlie and Verna were again required to perform their new duties. Verna hadn’t really thought about how small the first years looked until they all filed out of the train and followed Hagrid to the boats. It wasn’t that long ago she had been in their shoes, completely terrified and anxious to start looking for her brother. Jacob. The thought stung like a wasp. It had taken four years and she was no closer to finding him as she was to finding the next cursed vault. Jacob had always been there to protect her and help her and what good was she, if she couldn’t do the same for him?
~
The Great Hall was all decked out for the Welcome Feast when they entered. Verna always felt a sense of belonging at the sight of Hogwarts, but it was also always mixed with something like dread. This year instead of Professor Dumbledore, it was Professor McGonagall taking the podium to hold the traditional speech after the Sorting. Apparently, the Headmaster was on an errand outside of Hogwarts. They were also going to have a new teacher for Defence Against the Dark Arts, which at this point surprised no one. The new DADA professor did surprise Verna, though. It was Madam Rakepick, the curse breaker Dumbledore had hired to investigate the vaults last year. Rakepick turned her eyes to Verna and something passed across her features, but Verna couldn’t place the expression. Then, just as fast as it had arrived, it passed, and McGonagall bid everyone dig in their food.
~
After the feast, as Verna and Charlie were getting ready to herd all the new Gryffindors (including Bill and Charlie’s little brother Percy) to their common room, Penny walked up to them, looking excited.
“Hey!” she beamed and tailing behind her was a small blonde girl who looked very much like Penny. “How was your summer?”
“Oh, you know, researching advanced curses, eagerly awaiting for my detention this year, the usual” Verna joked.
“I worked on my extra credit stuff for Professor Kettleburn,” Charlie said. “And hung out with my siblings. Fred and George have gotten it into their heads they wanna be the best quidditch players in the world and I have to be their coach.”
“That sounds really nice! We need to catch up more later, I just wanted to introduce you two to my sister, Beatrice,” Penny exclaimed, and the younger girl waved her hand at them.
“Hi,” she said, rather excitably.
“Hi Beatrice, I’m Verna and this is Charlie.”
Next to her Charlie smiled wide and shook Beatrice’s hand. It seemed to Verna that she appreciated being treated like a grown-up.
“Figured you were Penny’s sister when they called Haywood during the Sorting,” Charlie said.
Beatrice nodded. “And now we’re both in Hufflepuff! I was hoping for it, but I would’ve been happy with Gryffindor too.”
“Bea is… sort of a fan of yours,” Penny explained looking at Verna. “She’s always asking me to tell her stories of my adventures with the famous curse-breaker Verna Malinda.”
“Now I can join you!” Beatrice said. “To find your brother and the cursed vaults.”
This, admittedly, took Verna by surprise. She glanced at Penny who, by the look on her face, had not expected this either.
“Bea…” Penny whispered.
“I mean it, I want to help,” Beatrice insisted.
“Well… Maybe you can help with some small things, but I’ll be honest with you, it’s really dangerous stuff,” Verna told the young witch and hoped that was the end of it. No such luck.
“You investigated the cursed ice when you were just first-years,” Beatrice protested.
“That’s… true…” Penny admitted but didn’t look happy about it.
“And Harry Potter defeated You-Know-Who when he was just a baby!”
“She has a point, you know,” Charlie cut in.
“Knock it off, Weasley. There’ll be plenty of time for death-defying adventures when you’re older Bea, for now you can just show Verna what you made for her,” Penny said with a glare at Charlie, who seemed vaguely apologetic.
With only a little complaining, Beatrice presented Verna with a yellow, self-made puffskein toy. It was extremely cute, and the gesture made Verna wonder how much Penny had exaggerated her stories.
“Thank you, Beatrice, this is super cool,” she said as she inspected the stuffed animal. After that, she was served to a story about shaving the Haywoods’ pet puffskein every week for the hairs to make the toy, after which Penny had clearly had her fill, because she whisked Beatrice away and Charlie arched an eyebrow. “Wow, they really do just keep getting smaller.”
~
Up in the Gryffindor Tower, the young students were excited but obviously tired, so Verna kept her introduction short and let them explore on their own or just go to bed. After that, the two new prefects made their way to their favourite corner of the common room. The couch there was already occupied by Rowan and Ben.
“Hey guys,” said Ben meekly behind his new Charms textbook.
Charlie squished into the vacant spot between Rowan and the armrest, while Verna sat on the floor, not bothering to drag the nearest chair closer.
“I think I’m going to possibly have a mental breakdown this year,” she mused. “I mean I still have to find my brother, do normal homework, play Quidditch, study for O.W.L.s, and now be a prefect.”
“If you had started studying for the O.W.L.s first year like I told you, you wouldn’t be in this situation,” Rowan simply said. It’s not like they were wrong, but Verna still rolled her eyes.
“Literally no one else but you does that, Rowan” Charlie jumped into her defence, which Verna appreciated. She fist bumped Charlie over Rowan’s lap.
“You two are impossible,” Rowan said warmly and turned to look at Ben. Verna followed their gaze and noticed Ben looked distinctly uncomfortable. Well, more than usual.
“Ben…” she started.
“I just wanna say I’m sorry,” Ben blurted out. “I know you already said it’s fine last year, but I don’t think it’s fine. I’m too easy a target to use against you, and I don’t think you should include me in your plans anymore.”
Verna stared at him for a moment, trying to find words. Any one of her friends could’ve been used as a pawn by a dark wizard. After all, they were only students up against adult wizards.
“Ben, I get it. I’d probably feel the same way if it was me in your shoes right now, because it easily could be. You’re not weak for losing against an adult.”
Ben bit his lip nervously. “But I-“
“We need you. You’re one of my best friends and nobody blames you for what happened,” Verna countered before Ben could form a proper argument.
“In the train you lot acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary when everything is!” he slumped against the couch and let the textbook fall into his lap. “I’m going to bed.”
With that, Ben got up and disappeared into the boys’ dormitory, his friends’ pleas falling on deaf ears. Verna looked at Charlie and Rowan.
“Maybe he just needs some more time…” Charlie mused.
“I think I was too harsh on him last year,” Rowan said. “I apologized though. In the train. We had a whole chat about it.”
“I’m glad,” Verna said with a smile. It hadn’t felt right, when Ben and Rowan weren’t on speaking terms.
“He just hasn’t had the easiest time at Hogwarts,” Rowan continued. “And all this business with the vaults… I think it has us all on edge.”
“Understatement of the year…” muttered Charlie.
“Well… It’s only the first day of it, we’ll have plenty of time to make more understatements,” said Rowan gloomily.

“Think we could just.. skip the wedding, perhaps.. stay up here for the evening, run away tomorrow morning, find a little cottage somewhere and grow old together?”
You laugh softly and push playfully on his chest. “Freddie—”
“Doubt mum would even notice,” he replies, gently running his thumb across your cheek and down your neck, across your shoulder blades, over the goosebumps rising on your arms, “she’ll be crying the entire time, anyway. C’mon—” he jokes, pulling you closer to him, “we won’t be missing much, will we?”
“Don’t let your future sister-in-law hear you,” you tell him, wrapping your arms around the back of his neck. “Promise we’ll have some alone time later. You’ve to help the guests when they arrive. Also—you, sir, promised me a few dances, don’t you remember?”
Fred pauses and considers this for a moment. “You sure you want me to embarrass you like that? In front of all these people, no less?”
You laugh again, letting him twirl you on the spot in the middle of Ginny’s bedroom. He tightens his grip around your waist and begins to slowly lean from side to side, careful not to step on your feet. He stifles a bit of a giggle when he notices you watching. “Yes, my love, I want you to embarrass me—for the rest of our lives.”
— -
George, Bill, and Charlie are a few drinks for the worse at this point. The summer heat is dying down, the sun has completely set behind the hills in front of the Burrow. Fred, dancing horrendously next to his twin in the middle of the dance floor but doing his best to pace himself, holds out his hand to you and pulls you into him.
“I love dancing with you,” he says against your ear.
You hum appreciatively as he squeezes your hips and spins you on the spot, and you both glance at Mrs. Weasley in the corner grinning emotionally at all of her sons and their dates on the dance floor. You turn back to Fred and shake your empty drink at him. “In need of a refill, are we?” He grins lazily at you and you say after placing a hand softly to his cheek, “Be back in a jiff, darling.”
You feel a body appear next to you as you approach the table. You turn; a strapping young man in dark colored robes grins at you and sticks out his hand to introduce himself. It’s firm; his smile brightens more when you take his hand in yours and tell him your name.
“Pleasure to meet you,” you reply, turning back to pour yourself another drink.
He takes you by surprise and asks, “Care to dance?”
“Oh, I’m flattered—” you’re nearly tripping over your words now, a bit stunned at how forward he is. You nod to Fred in the middle of the crowd again, “I’ve actually, erm, got to get back to my fiancé.”
“Fiancé?” he asks with wide eyes, but still—there’s something rather flirtatious in the way he’s eyeing you; it doesn’t seem as though he cares at all that you’re engaged. He inches a bit closer. “Young girl like you, already tied up? Shame, really.”
It’s as if this comment alone calls out to Fred like a signal of some sorts, because before you know it, you feel a hand snake itself around your waist, pulling you closer to him. Fred is there; his eyes have darkened slightly, something you’ve noticed happens in bouts of jealousy. His lips form a thin line; it’s always odd to you when Fred becomes irritable, jealous, angry, when normally, he’s the one who’s always having a laugh.
“Can I help you?” he asks, squaring up the man across from him. You can feel his fingers tighten around your hips and it’s hard for you not to laugh at the tickle it’s causing. You clear your throat in an attempt to suppress your laughter.
“You must be the fiancé.”
“Right I am,” Fred says proudly, taking a swig of his drink. He nods in the direction of a few tables on the other end of the tent, “believe there are a few veela looking for a bloke to have a dance with if that’s what you’re interested in; but this beautiful woman,” he turns to you and grins, “is taken. Or have you chosen to ignore the ring, mate?” You peer down quickly at the sparkling ring on your left hand, and back up at the men in front of you.
“You speak for her?”
You place yourself in between the two of them, now both looking like they’re ready to duel, or worse—kill one another; you squeeze Fred’s hand and say to the other, “No, he doesn’t. Once again, I’m flattered, but I really think it’s time you leave. Wouldn’t want to cause a scene in front of the bride and groom,” you say through gritted teeth, “right?”
A bit embarrassed, but mostly a little on edge, he backs away and heads toward the other end of the tent, sipping rather moodily on his drink. You suck in a deep breath and turn back to Fred, whose eyes are still dark.
“I don’t like him.”
You smile cheekily at him. “You don’t say. Ever met him before?”
“N-no,” Fred replies, taken aback by your teasing, “but it doesn’t matter. Did you hear him? ‘You speak for her?’ What a complete git.”
You pull him close to you and whisper against his neck, “You jealous, love?”
“I’m not jealous,” he replies tersely. He swallows thickly when your grin grows larger before continuing, “I just don’t like the way he was looking at you.”
“Yeah?” you ask, “like how?”
“Like he’ll fall in love.” Fred replies, moving your hair gently out of your face.
“Yeah, well, he can fall in love all he wants,” you tell Fred now, pulling gently on his tie, “but he’s not the one who gets to take me home, is he?”
You know you’ve said the right thing; Fred’s lips curl into a sensual smile and he bites down on his bottom lip, probably to keep himself from jumping on you right then and there. He hums appreciatively before nipping at your neck, “Oh no he isn’t.”
— -
You’re both gently gliding along the dance floor, the soft sounds of harps and piano floating through the air between the guests. Then suddenly, there are a few audible gasps coming from outside the tent where the aurors are standing guard; Fred is tightening his hold around you, a bluish white ball of light shoots through the tent, landing right in the middle of the crowd, only to take the form of a lynx.
And Fred is grabbing your hand tightly, pulling you toward his brothers, and aurors are shouting directions at everyone, and Lupin is rushing the tent when suddenly, black hooded figures enter unannounced and uninvited, the screams of guests and the quick whipping sounds of others Disapparating are filling your ears.
You grab your wand from the pocket of your dress, watching as Harry, Ron, and Hermione Disapparate as Lupin shouts, Bill rushing to protect Fleur at all costs, Fred and George back to back as they shield you and Ginny from any spells or curses headed your direction.
Someone’s shouting angrily about the whereabouts of Harry Potter, Mrs. Weasley is yelling in horror, Lupin is firing spells left and right. Ginny hoists herself on top of a table, Mr. Weasley is dragging her down, George grabs your arm and screams “no!” as Fred closely misses a stunning spell by mere centimeters. Fred pulls you and Ginny together and moves you in the direction of a table. “Under here!” he screams, the force of his weight bearing down on you both.
“No!” Ginny yells, tears streaking her face as, undoubtedly, thinks of the safety of her loved ones. This time, it’s Charlie who’s pushing her down, attempting to shield her yet again, from any spells or curses aimed for you both.
“Let me out!” you scream and push passed Charlie and into the arms of Fred, whose eyes are darker than usual, concern plastered across his face.
“It’s too dangerous!” he yells before wrapping his arms around you and forcing you behind him, only to hit another Death Eater with a stunning spell. It’s as if his words alone are enough to sober him up. “You need to get back—now! Where’s Ginny?”
“No!” you yell over the screams of the guests, “I’m not leaving you!”
Your words are drowned out by the sounds of cries, mock laughter, explosive balls of light, and the crumbling of debris around you as a spell hits you and sends you flying backward, slamming into chairs and tables and nearly knocking you out cold.
And in a half conscious, half awake, barely breathing, horrendous state, you catch glimpses of George shielding his sister, Death Eaters being knocked back by the others, Fred’s tear soaked face as he slings an arm around you and pulls you up from the floor, until before you know it, you’re Apparating Merlin only knows where.
— -
You’re watching from the entrance of Shell Cottage as the sun begins to rise, Fred next to you, asleep on your shoulder, the sound of his breathing like a soothing balm to your soul. Suddenly you feel a blanket wrap around your shoulders and peer up at George, who smiles softly and places a gentle kiss to your forehead before retreating back into the house. “Breakfast should be ready soon.”
“Thanks, Georgie,” you say. Your voice is hoarse in your ears; it sounds strange. Like it’s not even yours. Fred stirs for a moment before fully waking, his eyes bloodshot and tired and weak, only having slept for maybe twenty or so minutes.
There’s silence hanging in the air between you both. You swallow a few times—your throat is extremely dry, it feels like you haven’t eaten or had anything to drink in days. It’s scary that it’s only been a few long hours since the wedding.
“It’s really happening now, isn’t it?” you ask suddenly. The words sound foreign in your mouth. Fred lifts his head in surprise, peers at you solemnly for a moment before squeezing your hand.
He watches a few tears escape your eyes. “Yes,” he replies, and still, it seems so strange to see him in such a serious, stoic state. It makes you feel off balance. You don’t like it. You shudder for a moment and wiggle your way closer to him under the blanket. “But I promise to do everything I can to protect you.”
You wonder, selfishly now, if maybe you should take up Fred’s offer from the day before. Run away, find a small house somewhere far away, grow old together. You wipe a few tears away with your sleeves before turning to face him. You can see tears welling up in his eyes, to. But it’s not long before he’s making you smile and you’re letting laughs escape your lips with no effort. “But we’ve just got to finish this, haven’t we? Reckon those slimy Death Eaters don’t stand a chance—”
And yes, he’s making you laugh, and he’s grinning broadly at you, but the memory of last evening’s events, and the thoughts of events to come, hover over the both of you like a storm cloud ready to release the rain. His voice is a bit shaky when he tells you softly, “We’ll be okay, you know.”
“I hope so.” you reply.
“Besides,” he continues, taking your hand in his and examining the still sparkling ring, “I promised to embarrass you for the rest of our lives, right? Our wedding being the prime spot for it!”
“You’re ridiculous, you are.”
“Yeah,” he replies, kissing your forehead, “but you still agreed to be my wife, anyway.”
And soon, Bill is calling the both of you for breakfast, Ginny is bringing you both steaming cups of morning tea, marking the start of a new, stranger beginning as you both peer in front of you, once more, at the blending of sea and sky.

Five: You Were Romeo (I Was a Scarlet Letter)
Day 1: Thursday, June 13th
7:00 pm- Welcome Cocktails in the Stardust Lounge, Deck 6
“Champagne, miss?” The formally dressed waiter offered a flute of sparkling wine, a raspberry garnish floating in the glass. Rosalie took it from his hands with no hesitation, sending the attendant a silent smile of thanks. She put the glass to her lips, then paused and looked up at Derek.
“Will people judge me if I chug this whole thing right now?” she voiced, loving the amused smile that lit up her partner’s face at the innocent question.
“I thought we didn’t care anymore what people thought of us,” Derek reminded her, though she knew that when he was referring to ‘we’, he really meant her. Derek never was one to care what people thought of him.
Rosalie weighed her options, then decided that her family judged her anyways so why not have a good time?
In order to get through this hellish night, she’d have to be tipsy. Best start now.
Without a word of affirmation, she forewent her instilled manners and chugged the glass down in one long sip. Rosalie wasn’t normally a fan of champagne, unless it was Dom Perignon, which she realized made her sound like a total snob. It was the one thing that she’d inherited from her father, her expensive taste in food and drink. It seemed by the familiar, rich, and delicious taste of the bubbly that the cruise ship staff had only provided the very best for their VIP guests.
Rosalie searched for a place to set her glass, finding a nearby unoccupied table and gently depositing it there. She, quite literally, couldn’t afford to even chip one of the crystal goblets.  She stumbled back to Derek, who was waiting for her with an open arm.
“You ready for this?” he whispered in her ear, his breath hot on her neck. It caused unvoluntary goosebumps to crawl up her arms, which she prayed he didn’t notice.
Was she ready?
A part of her never would be. She’d purposely left this part of her life behind, knowing all too well how toxic it was for her mental health. But Rosalie knew if she backed out now, then the family would know that they finally got to her. They would think that she was still strung up and heartbroken about Drew, or jealous of her stepsister for getting the diamond that was meant for Rosalie.
And sure, she had been… once upon a time.
Moving back to Beacon Hills, reconnecting with normal people, people she loved more than her own blood relatives… it had put everything into perspective for her again.
Rosalie could once again be herself, be that strong woman that Talia Hale had raised to be when Rosalie’s own mother had fallen short. The strong, kind, generous, goofy, compassionate, empathetic woman with a mind of her own and a head on her shoulders. Not the ice queen, the submissive and serious woman that her father had tried to warp her into.
And for that, Rose was forever thankful.
She was different now, but exactly the same. And this version of her, with her closest confidantes by her side, wouldn’t cower in a corner.
Rosalie held her head high, meeting Derek’s gaze with a confident look in her blue eyes.
“Yes,” she declared, feeling her confidence rise.
“Good.”
“Lead the way, Prince Charming.”
Derek snorted and shook his head at the nickname, but complied and escorted Rosalie further into the room. She searched for a friendly face among the crowd. Normally, she’d be able to find Lydia by her head of bright red hair, but nearly half of the people in the room had some shade of red hair.
Thankfully, Rosalie didn’t have to look all that hard, as Charlotte came bounding up to her aunt, screaming, “Auntie Rosie! Uncle Derek!”
And suddenly, as the child wrapped her arms around one of Derek’s legs and one of Rosalie’s, all of the attention in the room shifted to the couple.
“Is that Rosalie?” her cousin Noah commented to the man next to him.
“Who the hell is that with her? Because dayum, I’d like to tap that ass,” Noah’s twin, Nick, said back.
“That has to be her friend,” Uncle Alex said to his wife, his lips around a glass of Scotch.
“Not with the way he’s holding her. Besides, did you hear her niece call him Uncle? How she managed that is beyond me,” Aunt Sarah replied, looking Rose’s companion up and down with hungry eyes.
Rosalie ignored all the talk, even though it seemed as if the crowd wasn’t even attempting to be discreet in their conversations.
She reached down to pat Charlotte’s blonde head. “Hey, honey! I missed you!”
Derek ruffled Charlotte’s curls playfully, to which the little girl pretended to be angry with him. But Rosalie could see the smile that she was hiding as Charlotte clutched the adults’ legs even harder.
“All right, all right, Charlie. Let’s let Auntie Rosalie and Uncle Derek breathe, yeah?” Rosalie’s brother, Levi, broke through the crowd, detaching his daughter from the couple and telling her to go on and play with her cousins.
As soon as the little girl was out of sight, Levi enveloping his sister in a hug. Derek held out his hand for a friendly shake, but Levi pulled him into an embrace as well, the two men patting each other fondly on the back.
“I’m digging the beard,” Derek approved, gesturing to Levi’s newly grown beard while rubbing his own.
“What can I say? I was inspired by yours. Although I have to say, mine looks a little better. Y’know, because it’s still all one color,” Levi joked, comparing his solid red scruff to Derek’s salt-and-pepper look.
Rosalie elbowed Derek in the side teasingly. “Yeah, you old man!”
Derek raised one brow and stepped away from Rosalie, crossing his arms. “Oh sure, call me old man one more time.”
Rosalie beamed up at him, wagging her own brows. “What would you rather me call you? Sugar daddy?”
With one fell swoop, Derek was pressed against her, fingers tickling the small expanse of visible skin on her waist. Rose squealed with laughter, trying in vain to pull away from him and begging for mercy.
Levi cleared his throat loudly, causing the couple to separate. Rosalie’s cheeks burned red at the embarrassing scene that she had been a part of. Surely her brother would tease her about it.
Instead, Levi looked a bit pissed.
“So, I guess my daughter didn’t dream up your engagement, then. This,” Levi gestured to Rosalie and Derek, “is really happening?”
Derek shifted his weight on both feet. Rosalie bit her lip and looked to the floor guiltily. She loved her brother. She really did. But she knew that Levi had loose lips, and he’d surely have one too many and (unintentionally) let slip the whole ruse. That, and Rose couldn’t take the disappointment from him.
“It’s about fucking time,” Levi added, sounding a lot more jovial. Rosalie’s and Derek’s heads shot up instantly, shocked at his comment.
Levi slapped Derek on the shoulder. “Bro, I am so glad you didn’t listen to me.”
“What’s he talking about?” Rosalie interrogated Derek.
Derek scratched the back of his neck and turned his head towards the large window next to them. Before he could explain, Jess, Levi’s wife, snaked her arms around her husband’s waist, resting her chin on his shoulder. “Lee was telling me all about how he’d threatened Derek with his guns if he even put his hands on you.”
Rosalie’s jaw dropped. Derek stayed unusually silent. “You gave Der the boyfriend talk?! When was this, big brother?”
Levi raised both hands in surrender. “In my defense, Derek was a horny college kid back then, and I was only trying to protect my little sister. You know the, um, milestones that come with prom night.”
The tapping of a mic interrupted their conversation, which Rosalie was thankful for since she was at a loss for words.
She’d remembered that night in question, fondly. It was the night that she’d realized that she’d had feelings for Derek. Rosalie’s then-boyfriend, Ryan, had dumped her a week before prom for another, more sexy, more experienced, girl. Rosalie was heartbroken, and had sworn off prom, until Derek had shown up on her doorstep in a suit with a pink corsage and a sparkling silver tiara.
She’d laughed, of course, at the reference to the childhood nickname. Then, she’d excitedly rushed upstairs to ready herself, leaving Derek at the mercy of one Levi Martin. Levi Martin, who had, apparently, threatened to cut off Derek’s balls and feed them to the family dog if he had even touched his baby sister in an inappropriate way.
(Levi was always… poetic when it came to his threats.)
Rosalie had hoped, prayed, that as Derek had driven her home in his black Camaro, that he would kiss her, to put a fairytale ending on a perfect night. Sure, he’d kissed her when he dropped her off at her front door… on the cheek, like a brother, or a best friend, might.
Rosalie had dreamt about that night for years afterwards, of what it would be like if he had actually kissed her.
_______________
“I’m sorry, Grandma Rose. I have to go rescue my fiancé from your dear grandson.”
Rosalie stood from the table, feeling a rush in her head for a few seconds. She was definitely tipsier than she thought.
Once Rose got her bearings, she strutted, barefoot, to Derek, who looked highly uncomfortable. With every inch that Nick advanced on Derek, the man backed a considerable distance away.
“Has anyone ever told you that you have an amazing ass?” Rosalie heard Nick flirt from paces away. The way that Nick was looking at Derek, the way that he was blatantly hitting on the man when Nick knew that Derek was taken, it unsettled something in Rosalie. Her vision turned red as she approached the two from behind, wrapping an arm around Derek’s waist.
“Hi Nick. Sorry, this amazing ass is mine.” Rosalie didn’t know what she was saying, didn’t really think through what she was doing. All she knew was that she was grabbing Derek’s right butt cheek with her hand, smiling smugly as Nick’s eyes widened.
Derek waited until Rose’s cousin scurried away before stiffly asking, “Rosalie, why are you grabbing my ass?”
Rosalie let go of Derek immediately, feeling as if she’d spontaneously combust in mortification. “I am, so, so sorry. I just kind of… he was ogling you and it made me mad. Like you’re gorgeous but you’re more than just a pretty face and an incredible ass.” Rosalie’s eyes widened at her word vomit, and now she definitely wanted to throw herself from the nearest balcony and test her drunken theory that she was secretly a mermaid.
“I… I need a drink.”
Derek turned to face her, a hint of a forming chuckle on his lips. “I think you’ve had enough of those, babe.”
Rosalie wished that she could slink away. She wished that someone would hit her in the head, and she’d wake up with amnesia. Maybe she could change her name and move to Antarctica? Yeah, that would be good.
Derek rolled his eyes, grabbing his best friend by the elbow and latching her hand back onto his arm. “I’m not mad at you, Rosalie. Feel free to grab my ass anytime if it makes you feel better.”
Rosalie tried to scowl, but the frown was turning upward with every second. “I hate you so much.”
Derek escorted the two back to Rosalie’s table, where Grandma Rose looked completely unimpressed with the whole shindig. Before they sat, he pulled Rose close and whispered, “I’ll let you grab my ass as long as I can grab yours.”
At that, he pulled out Rosalie’s chair and plopped her down, taking the one next to her. Rose was speechless. Did that actually come out of his mouth? Wait, did he actually want to grab her behind? Yep. Those were his words. Exactly.
Rose’s cheeks flushed a healthy shade of pink. Derek laughed at her slowly coloring face, to which she smacked him on the thigh under the table. Before she could remove her hand, Derek grabbed it and held it between the two of them.
“I always knew the two of you would end up together.” Grandma Rose said wistfully, looking at the couple with soft eyes.
You and everyone else, apparently. Everyone but Derek, Rosalie thought sadly, and tried to shove the painful pang in her heart.
“You know how I knew, Rosalie?” Grandma Rose shakily reached for her flute of champagne, taking a long sip. “I knew it when this one, this big, strong, handsome man,” the old woman reached for Derek’s free hand and patted it kindly, “punched my idiot son in the face at that party, after you got your master’s degree.”
Rosalie snickered at the memory. Jason and Derek had never gotten along. Jason thought Derek was ‘some jock who was too concerned with an unlikely career in basketball instead of his studies’. Derek thought Jason was a ‘pompous, cheating, scumbag, son of a bitch’. (Both quotes were their words exactly)
All of the building tension exploded when Jason had chosen to make a below-the-belt comparison between Rose and Ashleigh’s accomplishments. As if they weren’t celebrating Rosalie graduating from Columbia University, an ivy league, with a master’s degree, with the highest honors.
Derek had broken Jason’s nose. Jason had gotten a restraining order (his favorite defense tactic; it expired last year).
“I’m so sorry,” Derek told Rosalie’s grandmother, though he didn’t sound the least bit remorseful.
“Oh, sweetheart. It wasn’t like every sane person at that party wasn’t thinking the same thing. You were the only one brave enough to do it. Rose’s knight in shining armor.”
Derek’s face flushed red, a rare sight for a man with so much confidence.
“Rosalie, dear. I do have to warn you, Drew and Ashleigh are here.”
Rosalie sighed. She knew that they would be here. The pair had done a very good job at avoiding them; Rose wondered when they’d finally make it around her and Derek’s way. If Rose were lucky, maybe they’d just avoid her the whole trip. Only in her dreams…
“I know, Grandma. I—have you seen them yet?”
“Yes, I had the misfortune of running into both of them while yelling at your father for dragging his ninety-two-year-old mother on an extravagant trip. Do you know how long the plane flight was? Anyways, Drew called me ‘grandma’. You know what I told him, loves?”
Derek and Rosalie looked to each other, both knowing that it was probably something rude. Grandma Rose was Rosalie’s favorite relative, outside of her brother and Lydia. She was the most real of all of them. She spoke her mind and wasn’t afraid to let anyone know how she felt.
“I told him to go fuck himself.”
Derek choked on his glass of white wine. Rosalie smacked him on the back a few times, unable to hold in her shaking laughter.
“Yes, I told dear old Drew to go fuck himself. The only man that’s allowed to call me that is Derek. He doesn’t have his head up his ass. He sees how beautiful, wonderful, and deserving of love my real granddaughter is.”
All jokes aside, Grandma Rose’s words warmed Rosalie’s heart. At least one of the extended family members didn’t think she was a disgrace.
“Well, kids. Would you look at that? The pompous son of a bitch wants to go blab about himself. Someone should go tell him to shut up.”
Rosalie looked to the small stage at the front of the lounge. Sure enough, there was her father, Jason, dressed to the nines in a likely customized Hugo Boss suit, a pink Hibiscus sticking out of his breast pocket. Jason looked around at the crowd, clearing his throat to get the attention of his guests.
“Welcome, everyone! I’m so glad that you’re here and could join me on this fantastic excursion…”
Jason continued his schpeal and Rosalie tuned him out. He was likely talking about how great he was for paying for everyone’s accommodations, or how lucky they were to be spending time with him on this 1K-a-night cruise. Rosalie had heard it all before, multiple times, and she was sick of it, frankly.
What was it about rich people’s money that made them think that they were gods and should be treated as such?
Derek squeezed Rosalie’s hand hard, his nails digging into the back of her hand.
She looked to him in explanation, but he only nodded his head towards the stage.
Where Drew was shepherding Ashleigh up the steps, his hand resting on her backside.
“Yes, as I said, we have two exciting announcements that Evelyn and I could not wait to share with you tonight.”
 Jason looked fondly towards Ashleigh and Drew, who were now hobbling towards him. There were resounding gasps and excited squeals, but Rosalie could only focus on Drew.
Drew was still as handsome as the day that she had first met him. His blue eyes sparkled with confidence and charm. He’d grown a beard since Rosalie had seen him last, wafts of brown hair covering his strong jaw. He stood behind Ashleigh, his hands moving to rest on her stomach, and that’s when time stood still.
Because, under Drew’s lithe fingers, was a protruding bump. Rosalie, despite herself, couldn’t help the gasp that formed around her lips, nor the shaking of her hands.
Drew, when he was with her, had told Rosalie that he didn’t want kids. He’d had daddy issues too and didn’t want his offspring to grow up with a messed-up dad. Even though Rosalie desperately wanted a family, she was so in love with Drew that she’d put those dreams aside, for him.
Now, Drew stood proudly cradling his pregnant fiancée’s stomach as he spoke sweet nothings into her ear, looking thrilled to become a dad.
Derek squeezed Rosalie’s hand tightly, then removed it to wrap around her shoulders instead, nestling her into him. Derek’s lips brushed the top of Rose’s head, then her forehead.
“Fuck, Rosie. I’m so sorry. I… he didn’t deserve you. You’re better off without him. Do you want to go?” Derek whispered huskily in Rosalie’s ear, breaths coming out shallowly.
Rosalie didn’t need to feel the tenseness of his arm around her to know that he was pissed. She could tell just by the tone of his voice that he wanted to kill Drew.
Rosalie turned her head so that now her lips would be close to his ear. “I… I should have known. I—No, we need to stay. If I leave now, then Ashleigh and Evelyn will know that they’ve won, and I can’t let that happen.”
Rosalie rested her head on Derek’s shoulder, finding comfort in his embrace.
Someone kicked her leg under the table. Rosalie raised her head to look at Derek questioningly. His expression matched her own.
“Rosalie? Dear, are you here?” Jason called from the stage, his snake-like grey eyes checking the crowd for his daughter.
“She’s here, you pompous prick!” Grandma Rose yelled to her son, shoving Rosalie gently with a hand to her back. From a distance, Rosalie heard Stiles guffaw. She imagined that Lydia smacked him in the head while trying to control her own laughter.
Jason scowled, but ignored his mother, watching with a forced smile as his daughter and her ‘fiancé’ ascended the stairs. Derek had a tight hold around Rosalie, who had forgone her shoes in the shock of the moment. She leaned on him, both physically and metaphorically, for strength.
“Some more good news for my daughters. Somehow, someone managed to put a ring on my dear little Rosalie. Yes, it shocked us, too. Good on you, Derek!” Jason looked to Rosalie’s bare feet. “And it seems he doesn’t mind her habit for walking around barefoot. Welcome to the family, Derek Hale!”
Most of the crowd laughed, Evelyn and Ashleigh’s shrill merriment sticking out the most. Derek held Rosalie tighter. She bit the inside of her lip in an attempt to stay strong.
From Jason’s other side, Drew asked, “Wait. Isn’t that the guy who broke your nose?”
Derek rested his forehead on the side of Rose’s head, huffing into her ear “Yes. That was me. And if you don’t shut up, I’ll break your nose, too, you douche”.
That made her chuckle, and with his arms securely around her, Rose knew that she’d be alright as long as Derek was by her side.

[Ficlet] We Can Beat Them Forever and Ever
Yep, another ficlet based on Quidditch Season 1, which focuses on the beginnings of the Carewyn/Orion relationship! 💚 This one actually centers around the actual match (chapter 7-8), though if you’d like to read the previous parts based on chapter 5 and 6, you can read those here and here! Carewyn and Orion only become a couple post-Hogwarts (and post-Second-Wizarding-War, for that matter!), but it’s been really fun kind of charting their beginnings, so that one can have a more complete picture of where they started and therefore how they ended up. This may be a platonic relationship at the moment, but even at this point when these two are babies (13 and 15, what!), they still have such fun platonic chemistry.
If you don’t want to read the previous parts, then as usual, here are the basic clip notes -- my girl Carewyn “Not-Yet-Mama-Bear” Cromwell is a third year Slytherin; the Quidditch crew is in their fourth year; Orion doesn’t have his facial hair yet because of course not; and this will ultimately be Carewyn’s only Quidditch match this year and only one of two in her entire school career (if you’d like to follow that second match, you can always consult the Quest for the Quidditch Cup tag!).
Hope you enjoy...and please consider commenting and reblogging if you enjoy it! I hope to include this as part of a masterpost chronicling my writings for the Carion relationship soon, so watch out for that too! xoxo

Carewyn didn’t think she’d ever feel more pressured than when she was dealing with the Vaults -- but abruptly becoming something of an unofficial Quidditch Captain just before Slytherin’s big match definitely provided stiff competition.
Following Orion’s instructions, she didn’t tell any of her friends about what was wrong. She did her best to put on a brave face, but she could tell that Rowan, Ben, Bill, and Charlie thought something was up. She felt so relieved that Andre didn’t seem to, so she ended up spending a bit more time with him during the next Quidditch friendly. His confidence was comforting in a weird way, especially since he never tried to ask her if anything was wrong.
With only three days remaining until the match, Carewyn knew she was going to need to come up with something fast -- and after practice that day, McNully pulled her aside into the Changing Room to talk to her. He’d heard about Slytherin’s “bait and switch” strategy from Orion himself, and although he granted that it was “typical Orion” and clearly wasn’t thought through in the slightest, he didn’t seem as worried as Carewyn.
“Look, for as rash and weird as it seems, it isn’t completely out of left field,” he told her. “You do have something of a mediating presence, but you’re also assertive. Orion’s got some pretty big expectations on his shoulders, as the youngest Captain in over a century, and everyone’s sort of been pulling him in different directions...me included,” he added a bit sheepishly. “...From what I gather, he wants to listen to everyone and make them feel represented and heard -- but at the same time, he’s team captain, and he wants people to trust his judgment too, even the players who were part of the team before he was Captain. And the odds he’ll be able to do both at the same time is somewhere around 16%. But you’re the sort to really value other people’s feelings, just like he is. You’re sensitive enough to want to include everybody, but you also have a good head on your shoulders and you’re sharper than most. What you lack in Quidditch experience, you make up for in sincerity, and you’re willing to put in the work to learn what you don’t know.”
McNully smiled.
“Honestly, I reckon Orion made a pretty good choice, in using you as a sounding board. You respect his judgment and will do right by him as Captain, but you can still kind of ‘check’ him somewhat, on those things he might overlook.”
Carewyn actually felt her shoulders relaxing slightly. She offered him a smile.
“...Thanks, McNully,” she said quietly. “I appreciate it.”
McNully’s smile broadened. “Good to hear it. We can’t have you getting too nervous before the match -- Hufflepuff’s already noticed it.”
Carewyn blinked. “They what?”
McNully crossed his arms, his expression becoming a bit more grim. “I overheard the Hufflepuffs talking after their own practice. Apparently Ulrich Dylan thinks that the ‘little girl’ Orion picked is losing her nerve. That’s why he was watching you even more at your practice today -- he’s hoping he can rattle you even more, thinking about how you’re going to have to go one-on-one against him.”
Carewyn’s eyes drifted away and she frowned. The Hufflepuff Captain was about three times her size -- so he thought that her nerves was because she was scared of him?
“Don’t let him get to you, though, Carewyn,” said McNully firmly. “Sure, Dylan’s the strongest link on the Hufflepuff team, and he’s brilliant at what he does...but I already told you, physicality is only a percentage of a player’s overall potential, and a low one at that, compared to strategy...”
“He’s not getting to me,” said Carewyn, and she was being completely honest.
She considered this for another moment, her fist resting over her mouth as her eyes drifted. Then her lips spread into a rather wicked smirk.
“McNully...when you next talk to Orion in class, will you tell him how worried you are about me?”
~~~
Carewyn was very pleased by how fast the rumors circulated. By the next day, just about everyone was talking about how Orion’s newest pick for the team had an emotional breakdown in the Changing Room after their last practice. The students on the Hufflepuff team clearly had caught wind of it too -- they were giving her the side-eye a lot over the next day and sharing knowing looks amongst themselves. Ulrich Dylan even made a point to stop in front of Carewyn in the halls at one point, towering over her for a long moment and blocking her from walking any further before innocently wishing her luck and walking away.
Trying to accent how much bigger he is than me again, Carewyn thought drolly.
She did feel guilty about Rowan and Bill pretty quickly rushing to coddle her and practically suffocate her with reassurance...but at the same time, it felt kind of nice, considering that she was nervous for a completely different reason.
Carewyn arrived at the Changing Room about a hour early. When she arrived, she found Orion meditating on one of the benches, his hands clasped in front of him.
“Hi, Orion,” she said gently.
Orion opened his eyes.
“Greetings, Carewyn Cromwell,” he murmured.
His face was not as pleasant as it usually was. His eyes grazed her face, almost searching for something.
Carewyn glanced over her shoulder to make sure no one was outside the tent. Then she offered him a guilty smile and came over to sit next to him on the bench, her eyes resting on the floor rather than him.
“Orion, I’m really sorry,” she started. “What McNully told you -- ”
“No, Carewyn,” said Orion at once. “I believe it is I who should be sorry.”
“No, you shouldn’t -- ” Carewyn tried again.
But Orion held up a hand to stop her.
“I’m sure my decision must have seemed strange to you -- reckless, even,” he said quietly. “But I assure you, I was sincere when I said I was content in making it. Now, however, I find my spirit a bit unsettled.”
Carewyn felt her stomach crumpling up in shame. “Orion, it’s okay, I’m -- ”
“I placed a weight that was on my shoulders on yours,” Orion cut her off cleanly, “for it seemed to me that you’re the sort who takes strength from doing what must be done, for the good of all. But instead, it’s upset your own internal balance. And that, in turn, has greatly upset mine...”
“Orion, listen.”
Carewyn actually got up and took both of his shoulders so as to force him to look at her. The physical contact startled Orion so much that he rather resembled a cat with its hair on end.
“I’m okay,” she told him very firmly. She tried to offer him a smile, even if she still felt so guilty. “I’m really sorry I couldn’t explain earlier, but you said we shouldn’t discuss your plan outside the Changing Room, and I can never find you anywhere else in the school whenever I try to look for you. I’m really sorry I told McNully to tell you I was upset...but I needed you to react badly, at least at first, if my strategy is going to work.”
Orion blinked very slowly in a manner that made him resemble an owl. Then his eyes grew a little smaller, almost confused, as he considered her.
“...Perhaps you should tell me more about this ‘strategy’ of yours.”
Carewyn released his shoulders, taking a heavy breath.
“McNully told me that Ulrich Dylan thinks I’m scared of him.”
“Many in your position would be,” said Orion.
“Maybe others would be, but I’m not,” huffed Carewyn, crossing her arms rather haughtily. “I’ve been small my whole life. If I was scared of everyone who was bigger than me, I’d be scared all the time.”
The very slightest flicker of amusement touched Orion’s eyes, but it didn’t seem quite enough to lighten his face.
Carewyn grew more serious.
“From what I’ve heard from McNully, and from how the Hufflepuff team’s acted around me in the halls after hearing I had a breakdown, I reckon they see me as the ‘weak link’ of the Slytherin team. That means they’ll be trying to go after me, so as to pull the rest of us apart. And it makes sense. No one can get a good fix on you, particularly since this is your first match as Captain...and the other houses think we Slytherins don’t play fair, so they’ll probably be expecting the more experienced players to try to pull one over on them. But I’m the least experienced, the youngest, the smallest, and -- as far as everyone else knows -- the most fragile. Right now I’m the best possible ‘weakness’ Hufflepuff might be able to exploit.”
She smiled.
“That means, though, that Hufflepuff’s focus will be solely on me, and less on the rest of you. And if I keep letting them underestimate me...let them think I’m this scared little girl who’s stumbled into the big leagues...then I can throw off their center of balance when I play perfectly in the match. And if I can play perfectly...well...what does that say about the rest of our team, who weren’t those weak links? The Hufflepuffs will doubt their own judgment so much that they won’t be able to focus on their goal properly.”
Orion’s eyes seemed to clear as he brought up a hand to his chin thoughtfully. “I see...so you hope to make us appear off-balance, so that we can in turn be at an advantageous position to put our opponents off-balance.”
“Yeah,” said Carewyn.
Her expression became more ashamed again as she looked down at her own feet, dangling off the bench in front of her.
“I’m really, really sorry I upset you. I might not entirely get why you decided to have me call the shots for this, but...well, I meant what I sang. ‘I’ll do my very best, and it ain’t no lie,’” she sang a bit more sweetly, “‘if you put me to the test, if you let me try...’”
Carewyn’s singing seemed to soften Orion’s expression further. He smiled slightly at her.
“I accepted your apology the first time you made it, Carewyn Cromwell. Though it was easier to do, after our minds melded properly.”
He unclasped his hands, resting them on either side of him on the bench.
“...As for your role in this match...I chose you because you didn’t want to be chosen. Just like you don’t want to break curses, and yet you still do.”
Carewyn glanced at him out the side of her eye.
“How do you know I don’t like breaking curses?” she asked coolly.
“It seems to me that someone who likes being known for cursebreaking wouldn’t lose the light in their eyes whenever anyone brings it up.”
Carewyn was momentarily left speechless. When Orion glanced at her, she avoided his eyes.
“As a side,” Orion said levelly, “you may wish to apologize to Skye as well. Her internal balance was also shaken, when she heard the rumors.”
Carewyn felt her shoulders slump. Oh great.
“Don’t worry,” Orion reassured her. “She took out her anger on me, not our opponents. As is proper.”
“I’m sorry I troubled both of you,” muttered Carewyn. “I didn’t want to hurt your friendship...”
Orion shook his head with a smile. “You have nothing to be sorry for. All families have their disagreements, so I’ve heard -- and that includes Quidditch families. And yet they’re worth preserving, wouldn’t you say?”
Carewyn couldn’t keep back a small smile. “Mm-hmm.”
She glanced at Orion, her blue eyes a little softer.
“...It’s really cool, that you’ve made a second family for yourself here at school,” she said. “I really love my friends too...so I reckon it’s got to make things a lot less lonely, while you’re here.”
Orion’s eyes grew a little deeper, almost pensive.
“Indeed,” he said slowly. “Only...my family here is no ‘second’ for me.”
Carewyn looked up, startled. She stared into Orion’s deep black eyes for a long moment, trying to read his expression as she took in this information. Then, little by little, her entire expression seemed to melt. All hints of a smile or humor were gone, and her eyes had welled up with pain -- so much so that one might think she was grieving a loss of her own, rather than simply showing pity.
“...Do you...not have a family, Orion?” she said, her voice a mere ghost of its usual self.
Orion’s hands clasped lightly again in his lap as he considered her.
“Not one forged by blood,” he said lowly. His features then softened with the traces of a small smile. “But just because I’m parent-free doesn’t mean I have no family. As I’ve said, Quidditch gave me a family. Therefore my teammates are my family. You are my family.”
Carewyn was genuinely touched -- but she still couldn’t help but feel awful for Orion. As small and broken as her family was, she loved her brother and mother more than anyone else in the world. She couldn’t imagine how she’d function, if anything happened to either of them. As lonely as her childhood had been, she’d still had them. Jacob was still there to protect her from bullies and inspire her with his dreams. Lane was still there to teach and encourage her. But Orion didn’t even have that.
How lonely must his summer holidays be, with no one there waiting for him at Platform 9 3/4? she couldn’t help but think.
Carewyn had to tear her eyes off of Orion’s face and refocus her gaze on her feet -- she knew she probably looked really upset, and she didn’t like showing it so blatantly.
“...Do...I mean...does the rest of our ‘family’ know?” she asked quietly.
Orion’s eyes became a little smaller. “Only Skye and McNully. But I do not tell you this to make you feel sad, Carewyn. I’m telling you this because I want you to trust me. Many doubt my methods, but there is a reason why I was named Slytherin Quidditch Captain. On the path I have traveled, there is no one to follow...and so you lead. You keep a clear head because survival depends on it. You do not question where your decisions will take you because you have no destination. You listen to your heart first because its beat is more stable than the world around you.”
He smiled wryly, turning his gaze out toward the rest of the tent as he leaned back slightly.
“You could say I’ve been Inspired Broom Surfing through life -- and it hasn’t let me down yet.”
Carewyn felt herself smiling again, even with her eyes still downcast.
Trust isn’t really something I can do, but...
“You really are a cool person, Orion Amari,” she said softly. “And a good one, too.”
Orion’s smile spread and opened, showing white teeth. “And you are a Snidget of a person, Carewyn Cromwell. Small and seemingly fragile in appearance, yes -- but a rare creature that is quick, bright, and fearless.”
He seemed to hesitate, his black eyes drifting down to her shoulder absently. Then, looking as if he’d changed his mind about something, he returned his gaze to her face, even if it was still turned away from him.
“I have faith your heart will lead you well -- as well as us to victory -- if you merely listen to it.”
At that very moment, Skye came into the tent. At the sight of Carewyn and Orion sitting on the bench together, she immediately barreled over to them.
“I damn well hope you were apologizing to Carewyn and telling her you weren’t going to make her do your job for you, Orion,” she said at once, her eyes narrowing fiercely.
Orion raised his eyebrows coolly, his hands clasping in front of him again. “I would have, had Carewyn not already done what I asked of her.”
Skye did a doubletake. “What?”
Carewyn felt guilt prickling at the back of her neck again, and she was completely unable to look Skye in the face. “Let me explain...”
~~~
Skye wasn’t quite as quick to forgive Carewyn’s deception as Orion was, but she begrudgingly accepted it when she had to acknowledge that her plan to mislead Hufflepuff was rather clever.
“Well, we are Slytherins,” she’d said with a grin. “May as well own it.”
When the rest of the team arrived, Carewyn asked them to meet her in front of the blackboard. Once McNully had joined them too, she felt ready to explain her idea more fully.
“Okay...so...” She took a deep breath, her eyes hovering vaguely over the others’ heads rather than making eye contact. “We only have two days left before the match against Hufflepuff. I’ve done a lot of thinking and research, and this is what I’ve come up with.”
Taking out her wand, she copied the movement she’d seen McNully use. In seconds, a diagram of different yellow and green circles spread out across a makeshift “Quidditch Pitch” appeared on the board. Two of the circles, one yellow and one green, had stars in the center of them. Each of the green circles had arrows that pointed to one or more yellow circles. The smallest green circle had several arrows pointed right at the largest yellow circle with the star inside, which was in front of the goal hoops.
“From what I’ve heard from my friend Penny, Ulrich Dylan is a very ‘what-you-see-is-what-you-get’ sort of person. He’s upfront and honest and doesn’t see the need to hide what he’s doing. That’s why he’s not afraid of letting us see him when he comes to watch our practices. He’s confident enough in his own talents that he’ll favor physical skill over strategy. And well, yeah, he is good. I saw him in the matches last year -- he’s really strong and agile. Ravenclaw wasn’t able to score a single point in their match against him last year -- if it wasn’t for Erika Rath taking out their Seeker, Hufflepuff probably would’ve won.”
Skye crossed her arms. “Dylan may be stronger than you, but he’s not agile enough to beat Orion, you, and me when we’re flying together. And Hufflepuff’s Chasers are a joke -- the Parkin’s Pincer can more than take them out...”
Carewyn pursed her lips. She didn’t like being interrupted -- she had to take a minute to regather her thoughts.
“...Yeah. But we won’t be using the Parkin’s Pincer -- at least, not right away.”
Skye looked confused. “Huh?”
“Let her explain,” King soothed Skye. She gave Carewyn an encouraging nod. “Go on, Carewyn.”
Carewyn gave King a short, grateful nod in return. Her eyes drifting back to the board, she took a deep breath before continuing.
“...Everyone’s expecting us to use the Parkin’s Pincer. They know Ethan Parkin will be in the stands watching us play...and they’re expecting the more experienced members of our team,” she nodded to Orion, Skye, and the two Beaters, “to take the lead. We should use the Parkin’s Pincer, of course -- it’s a brilliant move, and it’s a classic for a reason. But before we do...we need to throw Hufflepuff off their game first. We need to use our brains as well as our brawn -- especially when brains is something Hufflepuff’s Captain isn’t using as much of.”
She glanced at McNully out the side of her eye.
“So...if it’s all right with you, McNully...may Orion, Skye, and I use your Thimblerig Shuffle, during the match?”
McNully grinned from ear to ear, his eyes lighting up. “But of course, Carewyn! I may play the impartial spectator, but we all know that’s for show.”
Carewyn beamed. “Good. But before we do that, there’s something else we have to do first.”
“Something else?” recurred Skye. “Carewyn, will you get to the point already? You’re going on nearly as long as Orion...”
Carewyn couldn’t fight back a miffed pout. “I’m getting to it!”
“Calm yourself, Skye,” said Orion serenely. “All will become clear soon enough.”
He nodded to Carewyn, and she returned the gesture before returning her focus to the board.
“Every team is made up of links, some stronger than others,” she explained. “For Gryffindor, their strongest link is their Seeker, Charlie Weasley -- their weakest is their Keeper. For Ravenclaw, their strongest link is Erika Rath -- their weakest is their new Seeker. For Hufflepuff, their strongest link is Ulrich Dylan -- their weakest are their Chasers. For Slytherin, our strongest link is Orion -- and as far as everyone else thinks, I’m our weakest.”
Her lips spread into a smirk.
“That’s why I’m the one who has to go up against Ulrich Dylan.”
McNully and the rest of the team excluding Orion all looked taken aback and confused. “What?!”’
“But Carewyn,” said McNully, “you said it yourself -- Hufflepuff’s weakest link are its Chasers. The Thimblerig Shuffle would be a much better choice to help you take them out -- hell, the Parkin’s Pincer too...”
Carewyn shook her head. “Hufflepuff’s only going after our supposed ‘weakest link’ because I’m the only part of our team they think they can take advantage of. Plus they probably think we Slytherins play dirty enough that we will go after their weakest players first. But we’re doing the unexpected...”
She grinned at Orion.
“...so we’re not going after their weakest link. We’re going after their strongest, so that he becomes their weakest link.”
She indicated the tiny green circle on the board beside the biggest yellow one.
“Dylan thinks that I’m this nervous little girl on a second-hand broom who’s scared of going up against someone as big and strong as him...and now the entire school does too. We’ll keep it that way all the way up until the match -- maybe even during the match, at least at first. Then, when the time is right, I’ll spring the trap on Dylan. In a second, he’ll suddenly be faced with a real opponent, instead of the scared little girl he expects. His center of balance will be shaken so badly that the rest of his team will be thrown off too.”
“Like aftershocks from an earthquake,” said Orion, his black eyes very bright with approval, “the entire Hufflepuff team will feel the devastation wrought by their Captain losing his stability.”
Carewyn nodded. “And once the Hufflepuffs start falling apart, we can latch ourselves onto individual members to cancel them out. Orion, Skye, and I can take out the Chasers with the Thimblerig Shuffle and the Parkin’s Pincer, while Crockett prevents them from scoring any points...and King and Shacklebolt can keep the Bludgers pointed at Dylan and Hufflepuff’s Seeker so that Hufflepuff’s Beaters can’t hit them at us and so that Lucky has free range to catch the Snitch herself.”
The rest of the team’s faces all suddenly appeared much brighter too. McNully was beaming with pride.
“Carewyn, that’s fantastic!” he cheered. “If the match follows this trajectory, I’d say there’s a 96.5% chance that Slytherin will win by a large margin. You really have mastered Quidditch strategy!”
Skye looked awfully proud too as she looked from the board to down at the tiny ginger-haired Chaser. “I have to admit, Carewyn, this is smashing. It really sounds like it could work!”
Orion, however, looked the proudest of all of them as he came up on the opposite side of the board as Carewyn, his black eyes gleaming as he smiled down at her.
“We shall have to play our parts to aid this ruse as long as possible,” he addressed the others. “When we go out onto the Pitch today and tomorrow, practice as you always do, but be aware of any audience we may have. And as before, discuss none of this outside the Changing Room, nor around anyone who is not already present. Now that all of our strengths have been pooled together...” he glanced at Carewyn with a bright white smile, “...we can place our faith in each other, and in ourselves.”
~~~
The day of the match was bright and sunny, but cold beyond reason. Carewyn was honestly kind of glad that she could forego the pre-match party Penny hosted, for the sake of bolstering the ruse that she was nervous but trying not to show it -- she much preferred the idea of staying indoors with her friends than freezing outside with complete strangers asking her pointed questions about the match and the Slytherin team.
Before heading out to meet the rest of her team in the Changing Room, Bill had gone all “Papa Bear” on Carewyn and made sure she put on one of his old Weasley sweaters on before heading out to the Pitch to change into her Quidditch robes.
“I know it’s big,” he said through an embarrassed flush, “but the last thing you need is to freeze when you’re playing out there.”
Carewyn carefully rolled up the sleeves of Bill’s old sweater, smiling up at him gratefully. “Thank you, Bill.”
Rowan looked concerned too. “Are you sure you’re going to be okay, Carewyn? You’re not still worried about the Hufflepuff Captain, are you?”
Carewyn gave her best friend a small smile. “Don’t worry, Rowan...I’ll be okay.”
“Of course you will,” Bill said firmly, his lips spreading into a smile too. “After all, Dylan’s a good head shorter than that Ice Knight you beat last year.”
“You mean we beat last year,” said Carewyn, glancing from Bill to Ben with a smile.
"You did most of the work, though, Carewyn,” said Ben with a self-conscious smile. “I don’t blame you for being scared of Dylan, though -- he is kind of intimidating...”
“Yes, but Carewyn can handle herself out there,” said Penny brightly. “Right, Carewyn?”
“Mm...”
Carewyn had to keep herself from reassuring her friends too much for the sake of her strategy -- after all, Penny was a Hufflepuff, even if she wanted Carewyn to do her best -- but she still gave them all a big hug before heading out to the Pitch.
~~~
Before the match, Orion gathered everyone around the blackboard for something called a “moment of vivication.” According to McNully, it was his version of a pep talk -- and sure enough, it was full of typical “Orion-isms” that could make the average person tilt their head in utter bewilderment but that made his teammates smile and shake their heads.
“To win, we must believe we can win,” he’d said. “And we shall, for the greatest loss we can have is loss of focus. I am Quidditch -- you are Quidditch -- we are Quidditch.”
Eventually, though, he got to a point.
“The time is nearly here, my teammates,” said Orion. “Although you have followed me in all of our practices, as your Captain, remember that once we are in the air, we will follow Carewyn’s lead, when it comes to springing our trap. Use patience, when waiting for her. Defend Crockett and our hoops with tenacity, while you wait for her. Show her the loyalty a teammate deserves. And once the trap is sprung, we can set loose all of our fire against our opponents. Let us go to the Pitch and make Slytherin proud.”
The rest of the team cheered. Orion glanced at Skye, McNully, and then Carewyn, all of them smiling.
“Blimey,” said McNully, “I’d better get to the commentary box. Good luck, everyone -- give me something to talk about!”
He smiled at Carewyn. “Good luck out there, Carewyn -- dazzle me with that strategy of yours, all right?”
Carewyn nodded determinedly, and McNully wheeled himself out. Not long after he did, Madame Hooch came into the tent.
“Come along, Slytherins!” she said stridently. “It’s time.”
The Flying teacher and coach gave Carewyn a rather long look as the Slytherins lined up in position. Instead of speaking to her, however, she addressed Orion.
“Since this is your first match as Captain, Mr. Amari,” she said, “you’ll signal your team to take flight, when McNully announces you. You’ll enter from the left side of the Pitch -- the Hufflepuffs are already in position on the right.”
Orion nodded. “Thank you, Madame Hooch.”
“I’ll be very curious to see what you do, Mr. Amari,” she said brusquely. “And I’m sure everyone else will be as well.”
Orion looked around at his teammates with a smile, his eyes resting on Carewyn last, before he took the lead and headed out of the tent, the others behind him.
They strode up toward the Pitch, coming to a stop under the stands on the left-hand side. Neither the Hufflepuffs nor the audience were in view. Once Madame Hooch left, the team got into formation, with Orion, Skye, and Carewyn standing in a triangular shape at front.
“Well...here we go,” said Skye. She glanced at Carewyn. “We’re counting on you, Carewyn.”
Carewyn gave her bravest, most determined expression and nodded. She then faced forward, her eyes resting on the small strip of sunlight on the grass just past them, and waited.
She could hear the crowd gabbing loudly overhead. Her eyes drifted over her head absently.
Rowan, Bill, Charlie, Ben, Andre, and Penny would all be watching up there...she wasn’t sure if that made her feel better or worse.
“Find your center.”
Carewyn glanced at Orion. His expression was very gentle and his voice soothing.
Carewyn’s face softened with a smile, and she nodded. Facing forward again, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth...and began to sing quietly under her breath.
“I...I wish you could swim... Like the dolphins...like dolphins can swim... Though nothing...nothing will keep us together... Oh, we can beat them...forever and ever... We can be heroes...just for one day...”
When she was finished, she slowly opened her eyes and looked at the others. She’d expected to see some smiles -- what she hadn’t expected was just how bright and courageous all of their faces looked, nor how fond Orion’s smile would be.
The crowd roared overhead, and through the overwhelming cheers and applause, Carewyn caught the sound of McNully’s voice.
“Welcome, one and all, to the first Quidditch match of the season -- Hufflepuff versus Slytherin! Put your Pumpkin Pasties down and your hands together for Hufflepuff, led by returning captain Ulrich Dylan! Look at them fly!”
The excited sounds of the Hufflepuffs in the stands was deafening. Orion mounted his broom, and everyone else followed suit.
“And now for the Slytherin team, led by new team captain Orion Amari -- also featuring a new addition to the roster, Carewyn Cromwell, flying alongside Amari and Skye Parkin as Chaser!”
The Slytherins all took off in perfect unison and soared out onto the Pitch. Orion, typical to form, looked ridiculously confident while flying -- there were quite a few points, when they flew around the stands, that he didn’t even have his hands on his broom.
They moved into their starting positions, with the Chasers in front and the Keepers toward the back of the Pitch. Carewyn could feel all the Hufflepuffs’ eyes zeroing in on her -- she kept her focus on the frayed handle of her broom, thinking hard.
I should let Orion and Skye duke it out for the Quaffle at first, she thought. It’ll be more believable that I’m nervous if I’m hesitant to grab it. It might even look like I’m distracted.
She resisted the urge to look at Orion or Skye to try to communicate her thought process to them.
They know what we’re doing. Best keep your cards close to your chest.
“And here comes Madame Hooch, striding up the Pitch!” McNully’s voice rang out overhead. “The Bludgers are released, as is the Golden Snitch! Remember, everyone: the Snitch is worth 150 points -- when a Seeker catches it, the game is over.”
Madame Hooch gave both teams a rather discerning look as she took out the Quaffle. Then, without warning, she hurled it up into the air.
“The Quaffle is released -- and so starts the match!”
~~~
The match was stressful and exhilarating from the start. There was no sense of restraint or politeness here -- every team player’s eyes were as hard as diamonds with their concentration. It was enough to rattle most anyone: even Carewyn had to admit, everything was so much faster and felt so much more important than when she played Quidditch friendlies.
It’s no wonder people treat this game like it’s a matter of life and death, she thought, when you’re out here with seemingly the whole world watching you, waiting for you to fail...
She purposefully missed the Quaffle Orion passed to her, letting Skye double back to reclaim it. A little while later, she purposefully failed to steal it from one of Hufflepuff’s Chasers herself, and even took some time to get yelled at by Skye. (Skye honestly wasn’t that good at acting, but her looking angry was all that was really needed.)
“Looks like we’ve got a dispute between Star Chaser Skye Parkin and newcomer Carewyn Cromwell,” said McNully, his voice dripping with concern. “One can only hope that Cromwell can get her head in the game...”
Carewyn glanced across the Pitch in Ulrich Dylan’s direction -- he was grinning as he shouted something at his Chasers.
Sure enough, in the next round, the Hufflepuff Chasers seemed to decide that they were purposefully going to stick to Carewyn. Whenever Orion or Skye tried to get close to them, they passed the Quaffle or slipped out from under them.
“Hufflepuff has possession -- Groves passes to Polson, over Cromwell’s head -- ”
Carewyn caught sight of Skye flying up under them. Catching Carewyn’s eye briefly, she smirked -- then, in an instant, she’d swerved upward, bumping Polson from below.
“Whoa, Polson’s lost his balance and drops the Quaffle -- Quaffle’s just barely caught by Cromwell -- ”
Carewyn held the Quaffle under her arm, soaring off toward the goal hoops. She could feel all three of Hufflepuff’s Chasers bearing down on her, trying to cut her off from Orion and Skye. She hunched down on her broom, her eyes darting quickly around from each of the three Chasers to Ulrich Dylan smugly lounging in front of the goal hoops.
And Carewyn’s eyes narrowed.
Now.
Just as the three Hufflepuff Chasers were about to try to attempt the Parkin’s Pincer themselves, Carewyn sidestepped them completely by diving. The two Hufflepuffs who had tried to pin her both slammed into each other.
“WHOOOA! What’s this?!” cried McNully, unable to hold back his excitement. “A modified Wronksy Feint?! Looks like Cromwell’s been studying with Slytherin Seeker Lucky!”
Once she’d dodged the first two, Carewyn fixed her sights on the remaining Chaser, sweeping around him in a tight figure-eight and bumping his face lightly with the tail of her broom. Although the move had no strength and didn’t hurt, the Chaser still felt the urge to try to protect his face from the bristles, which made him absentmindedly let go of his broom with one hand and almost lose balance.
“And Cromwell pulls out a Chaser variant of the Double Eight Loop -- signature move of Slytherin Keeper Crockett!” cheered McNully.
The other two Hufflepuff Chasers, looking faintly stunned, had flown back up after Carewyn, trying to regroup. It was as they flew at her that Carewyn knew the time was right. She hoisted herself up onto her broom in a standing position, the Quaffle under her arm, and she broom surfed right around them.
“Inspired Broom Surfing, ladies and gentleman!” said McNully, as an awed sound moved over the crowd. “Signature move of Slytherin team captain Orion Amari! Cromwell’s still in possession, approaching Keeper Dylan -- ”
Carewyn fixed her sights on Dylan. The tall, chiseled Keeper was staring right at her, and yet it was obvious he didn’t see her clearly -- just as Orion had suggested, he was too distracted by her technique, and her abrupt switch had clearly thrown him for a loop.
Smirking from ear to ear, Carewyn chucked the Quaffle right to the side of Dylan’s head. Rather than block it, the Keeper felt the subconscious urge to dodge, so as to protect himself -- and so the Quaffle soared right through the hoop over his shoulder.
“AMAZING!” McNully had to shout over the sounds of the delighted roar of the Slytherins down below. “Cromwell completely sideswipes Dylan and scores Slytherin’s first goal! Hufflepuff leads 30-10! Looks like she’s not as fragile as she looks, folks!”
Carewyn took the time to lower herself back down onto her broom as Skye snatched up the Quaffle again and headed back toward the goal hoops. The turnover between rounds was so fast that Carewyn had little time to recover -- so she didn’t see the warm, proud smile on Orion’s face as he watched her fly off after Skye.
The trap was sprung, and the Slytherins immediately let Hufflepuff have it. King and Shacklebolt kept Hufflepuff’s Beaters from attacking their players by keeping the Bludgers aimed at their Seeker and Keeper. Crockett whipped out the Double Eight Loop himself to protect the Slytherin hoops from any more goals. And Orion, Skye, and Carewyn became an unbreakable unit, shaking Hufflepuff’s Chasers off with the Thimblerig Shuffle and then crushing them with the Parkin’s Pincer. By the time Lucky had caught the Snitch, McNully was struggling to keep his commentary unbiased, thanks to the excitement echoing through every word.
“THE SNITCH HAS BEEN CAUGHT! LUCKY CATCHES THE SNITCH! Slytherin wins 250-30! What a match!”
The Slytherin team all came down to land in the center of the Pitch. Carewyn immediately rushed over to the others, her face alight.
“We did it!” she said happily. “We did it!”
Lucky grinned from ear to ear. “No, Carewyn -- you did it!”
“Don’t be daft!” Carewyn said with a smile. “I couldn’t have won by my -- ahhh!”
She gave a start when she suddenly felt herself being hoisted up into the air -- both King and Shacklebolt had picked her up, their hands under her legs as they bobbed her up and down and cheered.
“Oh no!” yelped Carewyn, trying to weasel out of their grip, “No, no, no, put me down, please --”
She knew they were excited, but she absolutely did not like being grabbed and picked up out of nowhere.
It took Orion some time to calm his teammates enough to put her down. Once she’d gotten back on the ground, though, he actually couldn’t restrain himself from wrapping an arm around Carewyn’s shoulders, taking hold of one of them so he could squeeze her against his side. His face was alight with delight and pride.
“I knew my choice was the right one,” she just barely made him say over the sound of the cheering Slytherins. “You flew like a Snidget, Carewyn Cromwell.”
Carewyn flushed with pride around her smile. “Thanks, Orion.”
Orion’s eyes sparkled like the night sky, even in the middle of the day. "No, Carewyn -- thank you. For your faith.”
The memory of Orion and Carewyn together on the Pitch with their team, with Carewyn’s friends Rowan and Bill both hugging her tight and Skye whooping at the top of her lungs in Orion’s ear, was an image so strong and blazing that it helped Orion -- three years later, in Defense Against the Dark Arts -- conjure his very first Abraxan Winged Horse Patronus.
I’m Not Like Her
Summary: Y/n never thought she’d take a job as a barmaid, but she had to do what she had to do. Fleeing from a mob in Aberdeen, she was willing to do anything to live a peaceful life. And if that meant working for the Shelby’s then so be it. Life was normal until the mob decided to make an appearance in Birmingham, leading Tommy start to believe Y/n wasn’t exactly who she said she was.
Request: 17 from humor and 4 from misc? With tommy please 🥺❤️
A/N: This is barely edited b/c I have no paitence for that, but I really like how this turned out. Oh, and the cocktail I mentioned is from the 1920s but I’m not sure if it was popular in the UK or not. Anyway, I hope you guys like it and sorry for the angst, I couldn’t help myself.
The noise filled the air, keeping people focused on what they were doing. It was too loud for anyone to notice much more than what was in front of them due to the alcohol in their system. It was always like that in the Garrison on a Friday night. Men clocked out of work, grabbed a girl, and headed for the pub. That’s how it always went.
Y/n had no time to think about anything but cocktail recipes as she filled orders. The men of Small Heath ordered everything straight out of the bottle. Whether it be whiskey, gin, or rum, it was always served either plain or on the rocks with a splash of water. It all came down to how much they wanted to stumble when they walked out of the door. The woman that tagged along were the ones that wanted to drink something fancy. They wanted to be more than some dirt poor girl from the wrong side of town. A lady in a countryside manor or a duchess in a French Château is what they wanted to be.
And that is what Y/n tried her best to do, give them a piece of a reality that would never be theirs.
She was too busy filling orders to notice the men that had entered the bar. Their appearance was almost identical to that of the Peaky Blinders that frequented the streets. They all wore neatly pressed suits, bulky overcoats covering their suit. No suspicion would have been drawn if it weren’t for the hats that sat upon their heads.
Handing over the fifth Sidecar she’d made in the last fifteen minutes, Y/n wiped her hands off on her apron. “Good Lord, is it ever gonna slow down?”
Edith shook her head from beside her. “I fuckin’ wish. I’m sick of this Irish beer Arthur ordered. Everyones to pissed to realize it’s shit.”
Y/n chuckled, “That they are.” Her eyes wandered around the packed bar, landing in bursts on the drunks that stumbled around. Just as she was about to turn back to her work, her eyes landed on three well-dressed men at the door. All the blood drained from her face, turning it ash white. The tammies they wore picking them out of the crowd
“Are you alright?” Edith asked, turning from pouring another glass of whiskey on the rocks.
Her coworker nodded, before glancing at the clock on the wall above them. “Yeah, yeah, I’m alright. I’m off in five-” Mary passed behind her, on time for her shift for once. “-and Mary’s here so I think I’m going to head home.”
She wasn’t given a second glance as she stripped her apron off and fetched her coat from the back room. Eyes followed her like a hawk until she reached the door. Y/n didn’t bother to look at the three men that stood in front of the door, she shoved past them, knowing they wouldn’t make a scene.
With the door to the Shelby’s private room open, Tommy kept his eye trained on the men while he kept up with the conversation he was having with Michael. The grip on his glass tightened when Y/n appeared and shoved passed two of them. He would have thought that by the time Y/n got off the men would have ordered a drink and found a table, but the stood near the door like statues. Only moved, turning on their heels, when Y/n shoved them out of her way and followed a few feet behind her.
It was odd. Everything about it was odd. The men that had entered the bar ten minutes before were odd. Tommy could have sworn he’d seen the men once before. London came to mind when he thought of them and how they’d dressed. But no one in London would be caught dead dressing like that. And the man found it odd how Y/n shoved passed them, something he knew she would never do.
Tommy and Y/n had an interesting relationship.
Tommy was in love with her, there was no way he could deny it. He could ignore it, though. After what happened with Grace two years before, he wasn’t sure he was ready to wear his heart on his sleeve. Every once and a while, a sharp pain would overtake his heart and make him remember why he was afraid to love so openly again. He tried though. He tried to do as much as he could for her with what he had. Tommy did his best to protect and behind closed doors, he showed her his heart.
But that could never be aired out in the open.
Thomas Shelby couldn’t have people seeing him weak over a woman. He couldn’t be seen once more being destroyed by the touched of a woman who’d betrayed him.
Y/n was much different than her lover. She was as loyal as they came and would never betray him, not when he owned her heart. Not one to love as few had ever shown her such a thing, she had no problem giving Tommy the love he deserved. She didn’t care about the blood on his hands or the damage caused by the war. She saw past his outward appearance and his tough exterior, loving who he was before and after damage had been done to his heart and soul.
Though he was concerned, there was business to be done and it couldn’t wait. No longer a believer, Tommy prayed to God that he wasn’t making a mistake for not following after her.
Stepping out onto the dirt-covered cobblestones, the cold air bit at her exposed skin as Y/n waited for the men to exit behind her. She turned when the door creaked open, more light pouring out onto the street.
The tallest of the three linked his arm with her’s, dragging her down the street, her protests drowned out by the sound of the other men lighting their cigars. Once he believed them to be far enough from prying eyes, in front of a factory that was closed for the night, he stopped and swung the girl in front of him. “Didn’t think I’d fin ya, did ya?”
“You fuckin’ bastard,” Y/n spat, pulling her arm out of his grasp. “What the fuck are you doing here, Roger?”
It had been ages since the two had last seen each other, parting onto a hill that overlooked Aberdeen, blood and tears on both their faces. They’d shared some good times, getting into all the trouble they could. They ran from the law in Edinburgh, jumping a train with a bottle of whiskey in their bag. Y/n stayed by his side when his father put him in charge of his family’s company and she watched him turn into a hungry monster, out for money and blood.
A laugh vibrated his chest, he leaned forward, moving a piece of curly hair out of her face. How he’d missed those curls of her’s. “I’ve come to ask for your help, love.”
Swatting his hand away from her face, she pushed him away, wishing to create distance between them. The men beside him, supposed to be his body guards, did nothing, believing she held no power. She rolled her eyes at their dismissals, Ed and Jim had never been very good at keeping their boss out of danger. “No fucking way will I ever help you.”
“Ya used to help with everything. There was nothin’ ya wouldn’t do fer me.”
“That was before you killed Charlie-” Y/n folded her arms across her chest, wrapping her coat around her tighter. “He was my friend, Roger.”
The man rolled his eyes. He never cared about what he had to do to keep his business running. “He was taking you from me.”
“Your brutish behavior was taking me away from you. Don’t confuse the two.” Y/n reached into her pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. She waltzed around the men as she dug around for a lighter, knowing the men in front of her weren’t gentlemen and would never offer over their lighters.
Before she could get her cigarette lite, a crash from the alley across from them caught everyone’s attention. Roger, Ed, and Jim reached under their coats for their weapons. Y/n turned to see a couple of Peaky boys walk out of the alley. She’d seen them before, they normally helped in the betting shop and had accompanied their boss to London a time or two. “Roger, don’t shoot them,” she demanded, trying to step in his way.
The Peaky Blinders drew their own weapons, ready to fire if they had to.
Y/n rolled her eyes. Why were men the way they were? Instead of staying and watching blood spill, she turned her back to the group of men. “Don’t do anything too stupid, Roger. No one here will save you arse,” she warned him, walking into the darkness of Small Heath.
*~~*~~*
The two Peaky Blinders that escaped unscathed from their encounter with Roger Flint, which was a relief. One of the men knew exactly who Roger was as he came from Scotland. He also knew how rare it was for Roger to let someone live in a firefight.
With ragged breaths, the two men rushed into the Garrison and wasted no time to find Tommy. Their boss was still where he was when Y/n had left, leaning in his chair, cigarette between his lips and glass of whiskey in his hand.
The Shelby’s all turned when Ricky entered the private room panting like a dog. “What the fuck happened to you?” John asked, a little laugh ending his sentence.
“W-we were out… out by the factory,” he started, clutching his side. “And Roger Flint was out there with some of his men.”
“Y/n was there with ‘em,” the man beside him added.
The mention of her name forced Tommy to his feet, his glass shattered to the floor. “Was she hurt?”
Ricky shook his head. “No, no-” He took a deep breath, trying to expand his lungs. “She seemed to know him. Personally.”
Was that worse than being caught with a copper? The mobster hadn’t the faintest clue, but he didn’t like the sound of it. “Where is she now?”
The two men exchanged glances, surprised that they hadn’t been chewed out for leaving her. “Don know. She left, I think she went home.”
Dragging his hand over his face, Tommy sat back down. How did Y/n know Roger Flint? That wasn’t a man anyone knew casually. A sigh escaped his lips as he took Arthur’s drink. The alcohol burned his throat as he emptied the glass. He thought Y/n was nothing but honest with him, but that was clearly a lie.
So there Tommy sat, his family exchanging worried glances from around the room, while all his fears washed over him like a raging river.
*~~*~~*
Y/n slept like a baby, Roger easily faded from her memory as she slept. He was never much to remember. The man was nothing but an overgrown baby trying to make a name for himself as a mobster. It was pathetic. All that went through her mind as she dressed for work was the amount of glasses she’d have to clean off of tables and the shattered glass that would need to be swept off the floor.
As she did every morning, Y/n stopped by the small cafe around the corner from her house. She was never one for cooking and her kitchen didn’t permit more than a sandwich to be made. It always seemed to bring her joy, stopping in to get a scone, and chatting with the owner. It was the start she needed for what she knew would be a long day.
Once she was feed, Y/n wasted no time walking to work. Dodging children, who ran through the street like monkeys, and women gossiping as they headed to the market, she finally arrived at the doors of the Garrison. Fetching the key out of her purse, she dropped it back in when she found the door unlocked.
The Shelbys had obviously arrived before her.
A smile tugged at her lips upon entering the pub, memories from the night before playing in her mind. Though the place was a mess, she was happy to be at work then to be helping Roger. Anything was better than being in the same room as him. Her smile faltered when she caught a glimpse of Tommy behind the bar. His muscles were tight and there was fire in his eyes. He looked up at her and all Y/n could see was boiling anger.
She did her best to send him a smile as she tugged off her coat, placing it on the bar. “Good morning, love.”
His knuckles turned white against the bottle of whiskey he’d grabbed off the shelf. “Don’t bother, Y/n,” he growled.
The smile dropped to the floor along with her eyes. Roger clearly hadn’t killed the Blinders, damn. It would have been much easier to pretend that her time with the Scottish mobster never happened then to ever have to explain it to the man she loved. “What’s wrong, Tommy?” she asked, deciding it would be easier to play dumb.
It was a long shot, but there was a chance she could get the man to believe her word over that of his men.
Tommy shot her a dangerous look. A warning that stated he wouldn’t believe a thing she said. “Who were you with after work last night?”
“No one.”
He rolled his eyes. “Don’t lie to me.”
“I’m not,” she snapped.
There was a pause, making Y/n nervous, as Tommy opened the bottle of whiskey and poured it into the glass in front of him. The pub was silent while he sipped at it before he placed it back on the bar. “Let’s not play this game. I know a liar when I see one, Y/n, because I’m a liar.”
Y/n rolled her eyes at his words. “What do you want me to say? That I was with someone that wasn’t you?”
“Don’t play dumb, Y/n. Flint is the fucking enemy! And there you were waltzing’ around with him! How fuckin’ loyal!” he yelled and in a fit of rage grabbed his glass and threw it at the wall beside him. “I thought you were better than her, turns out you’re the same type of snake.”
His words burned against Y/n’s ear, causing her heart to shrivel up in pain. “Bite me,” she seethed. Before any more damage could be done, she reached for her coat and ran out the door., shouting, “I quiet,” on her way out.
How fucking stupid could she be, thinking she outrun away from Roger? He would always come back to haunt her.
The door slammed behind her and once her feet hit cobblestone, she ran like a freight train, dropping her coat as she gained speed. She needed to create as much distance between her and Thomas Shelby as she could. God, she hoped to never see his face again.
Running along the streets of Small Heath, people shot her confused looks and moved out of her way as they saw nothing would stop her. Y/n ran, one foot in front of the other until her legs gave way and she tumbled to the ground. She pushed herself off the ground, sobs racked her body as she wandered into an alley, sliding down the wall of the brick building beside her.
“I’m not like her,” she muttered to herself between sobs. “I’m not like her.”
What Tommy didn’t know, was Roger was a no one to her. He had been nothing for a long time and she never planned on allowing him back in her life, not after all the pain he caused. But it was too late to explain that now. She had been labeled a traitor and there was no way to scrub that off.
The words tattooed across her forehead and the pain in her heart were nothing compared to the pain she felt for hurting Tommy as she did. He trusted her and, slowly, he was starting to recover from what Grace had done to him only for it to happen once more.
It killed her to think that she had done then one thing she swore to never do.
