Not to be the first soldier on the frontless of the woobification of Qimir (he is a villain, we know this, and I love him for it), but the lack of nuance, or rather the one-dimensional angle people who don't like his relationship with Osha have taken with him, irks me so bad. I get it. He is Sith, right. Treachery is their way; and what are the darksiders, if not self-serving?
But I feel like the specific phrasing of "the Jedi like you would call me Sith" implies so much about his own unique characterization, and I don't understand why we are glossing over it. It's not a self-identifier. It shows it isn't as much as a title he'd give himself, but a badge he'll wear since in the black/white viewpoint of the Jedi, he is not allowed to be anything more or less. His almost catty, "semantics" hammers in this fact for me, personally.
He strikes me as one who takes what he wants of the Sith code, and disregards the rest. I don't think it's a mistake that even after his reveal, we don't see him with the signature dark side eyes.
I say all this to say; Qimir's ultimate goal is not power, it is FREEDOM. *That* is what he is driven by. He craves to live outside the confines he deems as constrictive/oppressive, and have by his side, someone who wants the same.
So even while disregarding Leslye's interview; I honestly don't know how with what we've been shown in the show so far, aside from him being a sith, makes people think otherwise.

No Order 66 AU where Anakin leaves the Order after the war ends and he and Padme end up retiring to Naboo to try to raise the twins together, but neither of them ends up feeling particularly satisfied with life on Naboo (for Anakin it just doesn't give him any purpose the way he desperately needs and for Padme it's always been this perfect rosy dream and reality doesn't measure up), so they end up leaving the twins behind a lot so they can pursue other things and are pretty absentee parents in general. They mostly end up getting raised by Padme's parents instead, and while they're perfectly good guardians for the twins and raise them kindly and love them a lot, there's always an obvious elephant in the room regarding who ISN'T there.
This causes a bit of a rift between Luke and Leia because while Luke is trying to keep the peace and give their parents the benefit of the doubt as he moves on and figures out his own life with what he DOES have, Leia is less willing to just forgive and forget.
Luke ends up becoming a pilot working for the royal palace for a while, but Leia goes into politics (something she'd entered while younger because it's what her mother did and she'd been hoping it would get Padme's attention and bring the two of them closer; it didn't work out that way at all and now Leia's sticking with it at least partly to spite Padme) as an aide for her cousin Pooja who is now Senator of Naboo.
And it's here, once she finally makes it to Coruscant and starts working in the Senate, that Leia meets Bail Organa, still working as Senator of Alderaan. The two of them click IMMEDIATELY and Bail ends up becoming Leia's mentor in politics, as well as the person who actually introduces her to the Jedi themselves. Anakin and Padme had never really bothered to do so, both because they were so rarely around, but also because they had chosen not to give Luke and Leia to the Temple and decided at that point that it would be easier to keep the twins and the Jedi separate. Bail of course has no such compunctions and even if he knew about Anakin and Padme's feelings on the matter, I imagine he'd find ways to allow Leia to accidentally bump into some of the Jedi while she was on Coruscant. If he just so happens to double book himself for lunch with both Leia and Obi-Wan, it's hardly anything malicious and they may as well all eat together!
Leia finally feels like she has a parent who gives a damn about her, someone who acts like a parent to her, the parent she's always wanted. Her grandparents had always been incredibly kind and they obviously had to do a lot of parenting, but they'd always been very strict about making sure the twins saw them as GRANDPARENTS and not their actual parents, which just make the absence of their parents that much more obvious and painful. But with Bail, she's finally got someone who doesn't care that Anakin and Padme aren't there and doesn't feel the need to create a wall between them for Anakin and Padme's sake. Bail takes her under his wing, teaches her everything she knows, allows her to explore things she'd never been allowed to explore before, connects her to even more people who can help her understand herself better than she's ever been able to before. THIS is what a parent was supposed to do for her and she knows it, THIS is what selfless love looks like from a parent and she THRIVES under it for the first time in her life.
She eventually decides not to stay on as Pooja's aide because she has no real desire to become a senator for Naboo at any point, but she IS good at politics and desperately does want to help people any way she can, so she starts up some sort of organization of her own to help people around the galaxy (and connects it to the Jedi because deep down she KNOWS she was supposed to be one of them even though that path is now closed to her). But she doesn't go back to Naboo, she doesn't make her home on her mother's home planet.
She goes to Alderaan instead. And this time, she gets to stay there for the rest of her life.

The thing that gets me about Mace Windu's death and Anakin's involvement in it is that like... Mace is about to assassinate the president of the galaxy, who is, yeah sure a sith lord and all, but also he's not actually been found guilty of any crimes yet.
Like, earlier in the movie there was this whole fucking bit about how Dooku should have been taken alive, about how murdering him like that is "not the Jedi way". And then part of that dialogue is repeated verbatim later in another scene, only this time the character who says "he's too dangerous to be kept alive" isn't the villain behind the whole saga, but one of the heroes. Like, what the fuck man? In any other story I'd take that as a "look how far the Jedi have fallen" kind of thing, that the Jedi are so desperate to end this war that they're willing to go against their own values and make the same argument that fucking Palpatine made earlier.
Don't get me wrong, I love the parallels to bits. There’s something very fun about Anakin choosing to murder a sith lord at the start of the movie and it being the wrong choice, and then at the half way mark decides to spare a sith lord instead, only for that to also be the wrong choice because this guy just cannot fucking win. Every choice he makes is always going to be the wrong one. Even when he makes the right choice, even when he follows "the Jedi way", he still chose wrong.
But also like. George. Buddy. I do not understand what kind of message you're trying to send with this.

The Mandalorian switched from writing a story following the arc of Ice Age (2002) to writing a story following the arc of Shazam (2019) in-between seasons 2 and 3, and this is why a perfectly satisfying ending to a two season miniseries got ruined.
#the mandalorian#din djarin#grogu#something something if they wanted a huge mandalore-centric storyline this is what tbobf should've been#tbobf shouldn't have been mando chapter 2.5#it should've been the second book in a duology#look they could've done one or the other#a beautiful story where grogu is desperately searching for the jedi to the exclusion of all other connections and it's HURTING HIM#it's hurting to not be able to let go of this desperate desire to find a family that may or may not even be out there anymore#and ultimately his connections to din allow him to heal enough that he recognizes being a jedi is no longer the right path for him#he goes to luke and it's just.... not the way he thought it would be and THAT'S OKAY#OR#you do a beautiful story where din finds a lost child and bonds with it as he works to return the child to their family#and din builds up more connections along the way via having to help this child#which ultimately helps him heal from something or grow in a certain better direction#but he always is going to let the child go at the end because keeping the child was NEVER THE POINT#but we started with one arc and ended it and then suddenly pivoted into another one so we could just keep it going#so that lovely satisfying ending just... went away#like it never existed#but it wasn't grogu's story to begin with#it was din's#just like ice age wasn't actually about the baby at all#it was about manny#whereas in shazam the story isn't about billy's mother it's about BILLY#mandalorian isn't grogu's story so there's nowhere for him to go now that he's not with the jedi#it's DIN'S STORY but grogu's part in it is over so he's just a money making accessory at this point

dha kar'ta "crispy has lost control of their life again" celebration sneak peek
am planning on starting up a wip wednesday sort of thing (maybe next week?), which will definitely be more than star wars related stuff, but i've also just exceeded a thousand hours on skyrim in less than a year and wanted to celebrate(?) (i actually hit a thousand a few days ago, but in true fixation fashion, kept playing instead of posting anything over here lmao) so here's a dha kar'ta wip 'cause jango is fighting me a little bit but new chapter soon!! i promise!!
“As soon as Satine is unseated, the Mandalore System’s full neutrality nullifies, unless Jango chooses to reinstate it.”
“And he’d rather die than do that,” Bosoloc pipes up helpfully.
“Yes, and at that point, Mandalore can choose to pursue rejoining the Republic for the first time since the Kyr’am Turr’e, because New Mandalore never officially seceded to the Senate.”
“Which Jang’alor would also rather die than do.”
Obi-Wan acknowledges Ezovac with a nod. “The politics of sovereign states that exist within sectors technically under control of the Republic are a disaster at best, and almost no one in the Senate is willing to deal with it long enough for a planet to get the flimsiwork through.” Melidaan is a Republic planet now, but the Young didn’t always intend it to be, and Nield couldn’t read, so Obi-Wan had done a lot of that research between battles; and being on the run from Death Watch actually afforded a considerable amount of downtime during his year on Mandalore, and, well. A big part of that Obi-Wan had thought it was all information he’d need to know if Satine asked him to stay, and Obi-Wan still hasn’t quite learned how to let someone love him unless he can be useful to them.
Actually, it’s rather convenient that he had done all this research for Mandalore specifically, if thirteen years too early — perhaps the Force was simply preparing him for this Mandalore, not Satine’s.
Across the mess table, Kal groans loudly and slumps his head down. “Fine, I’ll bite, kih’Alor: what’s any of that got to do with Duchess Demagolka?”
“Theoretically,” Obi-Wan sighs again, pushing a grumbling Dha further into his mind so he can concentrate, “Mandalore does not actually have to declare itself as anything; there are plenty of planets in the outer rim that have sovereignty without officialising it with the Republic.”
  “But...?”
“But, thanks to Satine, Mandalore is embroiled in Senate politics nine ways to Corellian Hells, and it’ll be even worse if she makes any headway with the beskar mines while we’re off fighting Vizsla. We simply can’t withdraw from those politics, not when Mandalore’s history is so entwined with the Republic’s, not unless we want to go full isolationist from the rest of the galaxy.” He glances at his other table-/councilmates, and is relieved to see they seem to be keeping up, if looking a bit exhausted by it; Obi-Wan shares the sentiment.
Luckily, the mess is empty now with everyone returning to their increased post-battle duties, or Obi-Wan is sure they’d have had quite a few more complaints about the impromptu government lesson happening in the middle of the tent.
Kal rubs his eyes, shaking himself before turning back to Obi-Wan, his frown as deep as ever, but at least he still seems willing to listen.
“So, we can’t just go after the Senate’s pet Mandalorian without burning those bridges, unless we have proof she’s in league with a terrorist?”
“Precisely. And technically, with Mandalore as a sovereign state, the Senate can’t do anything about the change in power, unless they plan to go to war with every Mandalorian in the galaxy, but proving she made the first move will give us significantly more support for instating Jango instead.”
“I feel like my brains are coming out my ears,” Bosoloc whispers woodenly, staring down at the remains of the protein gruel on her tray.
“You don’t have ears,” Myles reminds her, chin in his hand, and she kicks him under the table.
“What I want to know,” Mij speaks for the first time, easily dodging one of Myles’ flailing arms, “is how you even know about the Kyr’am Turr’e, Obi-Wan.”
Bosoloc turns away from tormenting Myles to add, “Yes, I was going to ask about that, because I have no idea what the Death Days are.”

I don't want you to get upset," Vau said, "but Fi's not as you remember him." Etain nodded gravely as they waited for Aay'han to land. Vau wasn't sure if an emotional shock was a good idea for a pregnant woman so close to term, but he had Rav Bralor here if any of that female stuff needed attending to. Mird followed Etain around, staring fascinated at her belly. "He's still Fi, and I think I understand post-coma recovery now," Etain said. "You have no idea how much medical literature I've read recently. But Mird's worrying me." Bralor flicked her thumbnail against the butt of her blaster, making Mird whip its head around to stare balefully at her. "And I can worry Mird. Can't I, my little stinkweed?" Vau felt the need to defend his comrade. "Strills have very acute senses, remember. It knows the baby's coming soon." "As in snack opportunity?" "As in parenting, Rav. Mird is hermaphroditic, remember. It's capable of being a mother, too, and you know how female animals will mother anything." "Even you, Walon ..."
Republic Commando: True Colors
#star wars#republic commando#etain tur mukan#mird#walon vau#rav bralor#OKAY LISTEN BOTH KAL AND VAU HAS SHITTY TAKE ON PREGNANCY AND PUTTING ALL FEMALE PROBLEMS ON RAV#BUT VAU IS STILL BETTER IN THE SENSE HE PRESUMBLY HAS ZERO EXPERIENCES IN THAT MATTER (no children no wife etc)#AND HE IS STILL BETTER THAN SKIRATA'S PREGNANT WOMEN ARE CRANKY SHIT WHEN HE GOT INFO THAT ETAIN ALMOST LOST UNBORN KID#i mean vau worrying that emotional shock may not be the best for etain right now and be glad to have rav around so there will be#at least one person knowing what to do is quite a lot for a man that has zero reasons to care (etain is jedi and kid is her and darman#so vau doesn't need be involved but he is still worrying about her)#like it is clear he is out of his depth when it comes to the female stuff (lol)#but he is clearly trying to be nice and supportive to etain#but also rav#RAV's sass and the even you walon#haha but we know the truth vau is mothering the strill XD#but also i wonder#if strills have this strong need to mother babies - even human babies#shouldn't mird be very protective of small clone cadets?#which make me wonder more why mird would attack ordo on vau's order like it happened according to triple zero?#unless ordo was much older but then if mird mother lil clones would strill see them differently than its own pack?#like i'm kinda furious this thing about strills come in true colors when triple zero was putting vau and mird in such abusive (cruel) act#against ordo / clone#gimme protective mird mothering lil delta squad and atin good damn

Anakin legitimately does not respect or care about any of the people who love him as much as they respected and cared about him. Anakin is so ready to kill, betray, disrespect, and abandon literally any and all of them at the drop of a hat. They would all give up A LOT for him, they all believe in him despite all evidence saying they shouldn't, despite everything we as the audience know proves that they shouldn't, they believe in him. Some of them are willing to believe in him POST GENOCIDE for literally no fathomable reason. He has given these people exactly zero reason to have a single ounce of faith in his goodness because he legitimately seems not to give a shit about any of them in return.
The more we learn about his relationships with people, the more frustrating it gets that anybody even LIKES him, let alone LOVES him, there's so little to even like about him how did it even happen? No one who has written Anakin has managed to write him in a way that makes it in any way understandable that fundamentally good kind people like Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Luminara, and Yoda would like someone as fundamentally cruel and unkind as Anakin is.
Everyone talks about how unbelievable it is that Padme would've fallen for Anakin and so she MUST'VE been brainwashed through the Force by Anakin, but I feel like we should add the entire Jedi Order and the 501st to that, too, because there's just no reason any of them like him and believe in him as much as they do without it.

So that post I reblogged earlier today about archiving our old fics from other platforms by posting them to AO3 since they’re a valuable part of fandom history apparently got to me... after years of avoiding it, I just found and reread a particular fic that I wrote when I was 13 or 14 back when I was Jedi_Arwen on TheForce.Net forums. And yeah, it’s cringey as hell, it very much feels like a love story written by a 13 or 14 year old, plus it relies on the Jedi Apprentice series which I’m not sure anyone knows or cares about anymore — but I actually think it may be salvageable? At least a tiny bit? Suddenly I feel compelled to edit/rewrite it, make the worst of the cringe a bit more palatable, and then let it loose into the world just for funsies. Am I crazy? Is this a death wish? Will it taint my name as a fic author forever? Someone stop me before I do something I regret

It was SUCH a good scene. Though, contrary to the first post, it was INCREDIBLY justified, and that's part of what was so good about it.
Osha took all that hurt and betrayal, and it didn't matter that Sol was unarmed and not fighting back. The only thing that mattered was his terrible lie to make a child trust and believe in him just so he could have his Padawan, and the unprovoked murder he committed so he could have that Padawan.
He forgave her because he knew that he deserved what she gave him. He forgave her because maybe he finally understood the great evil he'd been committing for years.
Osha's actions were human. Her feelings were dark. Faced with the shock of this horrifically, terrible betrayal, you can debate whether they were evil. They were not unjustified, that's for sure. Sol got exactly what was coming to him, and that the show allowed Osha to unapologetically deliver that justice was wonderful.
One thing I did appreciate is that The Acolyte did not hold back on that Osha went full dark side, that Sol's kyber crystal was crushed by her anger and hate to the point that it bled into a red saber. She straight up murdered someone who was not fighting back. She killed him because she was hurt and angry, not because he was a threat. Osha's feelings of betrayal and rage were valid, her actions were not. She murdered an unarmed man who was not fighting back, who had no intention of fighting back, who literally forgave her as she choked the life out of him, and nothing of her actions were justified. She wasn't even regretful about it. The dark side can be humanized to a degree, it always has been in Star Wars, that's nothing new. Anakin's everything ever, Maul's pain and desperation for a connection through an apprentice, Dooku's clinging to his care for people like Yaddle or Asajj, the dark side has never been about detached or unsympathetic anger. It's always come from a very human place, that's why the Jedi constantly caution that no one is beyond it. But Osha embraced it here, she stepped over the line and murdered a defenseless man because of her rage, not because it was in any way justified as a killing, and the kyber crystal screamed and bled because of it. You don't get a red saber by being justified, you get it by crossing the line into an act of evil. And props to The Acolyte for not shying away from that, as human as Osha is and will continue to be, her actions were over the line of evil.
