Oh my god I couldn’t even answer this ask earlier because I’m SO FUCKING HAPPY. I’M SO HAPPY. I GET TO KEEP LOVING MY TEAM INSTEAD OF ABANDONING THEM AT THE END OF THE SEASON TO FOLLOW HORNY. Like. Horny could’ve gone elsewhere and gotten more but he loves this team. GMJR rewards my faith in him by showing he respects how much Horny is worth to this team by getting this deal done so early. Nearly the whole core is locked in for four more years. It’s so great. I maybe cried a little.

Trades tho. I’m…. not mad about Brassard. I know we need more depth to make a good run. I still am pouty about it a little tho. Part of it’s just reactance where I am always hesitant over new people in the trade deadline part of the season. Brassard has won me over a little though by being buddies with Hags and showing what seems like genuine excitement to join the team (vs. the typical “i’m grateful for everything [prior team] did for me and all the fans, and now i’m excited for this new opportunity” platitudes). Ottawa is clearly a sinking ship this year after a long while of struggling so I’m sure that contributes to his excitement.

On the other hand, I’m a fan of Carter Rowney and I don’t want to see him sent down even though I know his injuries this year have made him struggle with putting up the points but I think he’s got excellent hockey vision and is extremely adaptive to different teammate compositions which is useful when on the PK and when he’s got a constantly rotating cast of wingers. So I’ll be sad to see him moved, since I’m guessing they’ll leave Sheahan in with Brassard. Though maybe not? He plays a really important role on the PK when he’s in. But Sheahan has too and has been good in faceoffs, which is important. I’ve been appreciating Sheahan’s hard work even if it’s slow, I think it’s coming together for him.

I’m sad to see Reaver go from a character perspective but the fit wasn’t good enough so I understand it - even though I’m so proud of how hard he worked at learning to play Penguins Hockey tm. The change from when he first got here to now was huge and he never quit giving it everything. I’m glad he went to vegas so he can prank Flower and be with some other guys I like, and also be physical against the bigger more physical teams in the west through playoffs.

As for the other trades… Eh, mostly inconsequential. Cole going to CBJ will probably be a better fit for his personality, which is not a compliment for him or CBJ, and will probably suck for him because that locker room must be pretty hellish, though he’s just a rental. If he’s smart he won’t re-sign there. I did appreciate how much he improved the maturity of his game as a player over the last year, and I think losing him from a quality of defense standpoint is a small problem. Mostly because I am still quite hesitant about Hunwick - this last game was even more bad than normal and he’d been getting better so maybe it was just a shitty game but eh… He should be more comfortable with Penguins Hockey by now imo. I’d much rather see more of Ruhwedel since we didn’t add any more depth on the blue line. I kinda wish we had, but it is what it is and we didn’t NEED it, exactly, assuming we don’t get like three injured D at once. Tanger still isn’t back to his old self even though he keeps acting like he is playing at that level and it’s driving me nuts because that means stupid mistakes like sending a pass that would be clever if he nailed it but is just a turnover because he KEEPS NOT NAILING IT. Hopefully it all clicks for them by playoffs.
