I hate how Lois is so quick to doubt Clark, yes it is absolutely terrifying to think about an evil superman, most of us have seen at least one world where he decides to not play by the rules, but why did she have to turn so quickly.

Like yes she doesn't know that most of the supermen (if we stick to the idea of it being lord -who is definitely confirmed-, overman, and superboy-prime) didn't have the same start as clark, and I'm glad she's thinking for herself but like i hate how we fix one problem then the whole world begins to hate superman.

She is one of the few Loises to figure out he is superman, she should be smarter than this, she is supposed to expect him and her whole 180 to "maybe he is a monster" and telling him to be normal feels wrong.

This will probably be a hurdle that results in them growing closer and letting her fully trust him but I just really wish this wasn't the turn the plot took.

Realistically if a man with superhuman abilities showed up I'm sure most of us would react the same, excited to be saved but scared for the day he makes one slip up and adoration turns to fear and resentment, but knowing how much Clark is giving up for these people is frustrating, watching him lose days, weeks of sleep to solve all their problems, ignoring the warnings of an invisible man on the street and chucking Clark's actions to him just randomly wanted to start a pileup???? It boggles my mind.

I don't hate Vicki, she is just as frustrating when you know how good Clark is but yes a way to get money is to jump on the cash cow that is defaming superman. If you want to get views, sadly in news like her's she is right, spilling blood will get you more. Lois tried the same thing, where they people most would consider evil? Yes, but she was still attempting to profit off their scandals and dirty laundry.

Overall, still love superman and i think the reactions of people (with maybe the accepting of lois because the whole not trusting clark after all this feels forced and irrational) are realist, society can turn on you in the blink of an eye. Enjoying myself just mildly frustrated.

getting more into Midvalley's character here in ch 2! so here are my thoughts and things and whatever translation weirdness I find as I re-read Trigun Maximum vol 4!

(NOTE: I'm reading the Dark Horse [physical] and the Overhaul [online] translations side-by-side)

man...I knew trimax Midvalley was cool, but I'd forgotten how cool =u=

(Dark Horse on top, Overhaul on bottom)

here, Dark Horse's use of "gods or devils" puts the emphasis on power. the way the Overhaul words things, though, there's the power aspect ("This isn't human for sure") as well as that power's intent. Midvalley's basically saying 'it was not a good higher power that did this - it was a very bad one.' furthermore, the Overhaul's translation makes more sense given the context. you just need to look at how Midvalley describes Knives on the next page.

but before I get to that - the very last panel of this one says in Dark Horse "Given my line of work, I should have been able to sense trouble coming" whereas the Overhaul's translation starts with "Given I'm good at my line of work"

anyway. that leads into the next page, where Dark Horse puts it like "But that doesn't work on pure, unmitigated evil. A power that immense seizes your destiny without warning." whereas in the Overhaul, it's "But that sense doesn't work on pure, absolute evil. A power so great that it seizes your destiny in the blink of an eye." the Overhaul's translation is more straightforward/explicit, specifying that Midvalley's still talking about his not-Spidey Sense, which. was not something I picked up on before, lol.

collecting VS a collector of. "collecting" strikes me as more passive, whereas "a collector of" implies deliberate intent. Knives isn't doing the thing just to do it - he's doing the thing with purpose, if that makes sense;;;;;

Midvalley goes on to further illustrate just how evil Knives is from his perspective, which - idk, it says a lot when one murderer looks at another and says "yeah no, this guy is The Literal Devil".

and it's. so. funny to me (but also kinda sad). how detached Knives is while he and Legato are talking.

you can rly see how much Knives just. doesn't. care. how devoted Legato is to him. he literally could not care less about any concerns Legato has about Wolfwood, and he certainly doesn't care about whether or not Legato's in the loop about any of his overarching plans. Legato's just another human to Knives, just a means to an end. it plainly shows us the kind of disregard/complete lack of care for humanity Midvalley tells us about Knives.

I honestly like Vivia’s Japanese VA a bit more. No offence to Aleks Le of course. (He’s a really good actor) but his english voice makes him almost sound like he smoked a hundred cigarettes. (Well both do but the english version more.)

Gonna be honest, I don't get where the whole 'Vivia sounds like he smokes a hundred packs per day' comes from. You can still have a gravelly voice without smoking, I can tell ya that much. Like, I know I sound like the grim reaper trapped my vocal chords in a chokehold every time I wake up in the morning. Vivia just has the eternal 'morning voice' curse (or blessing...?) due to how often he sleeps. He's in a constant state of eepy, so his voice reflects that.

And don't worry, I know that this type of raspy voice can still be jokingly compared to 'smoker's voice', not saying ya can't correlate the two heheh.
