For years, I lived in bewildered befuddlement regarding the musical musings of Taylor Swift. I usually listen to rock or metal, so her brand of pop was not a part of my usual lineup. However, I gained lovely friends here on Tumblr who swear by our Lady TayTay, so I decided I should check out her stuff. But there was SO MUCH, I didn't even know where to start. I: The pleasure has been all ours for the many years that you have sat down with us. We value your friendship and willingness to take time out of your busy schedule to do so.

Jude: (smiles) Don Juan yessir.

I: Who is she to you?

Jude: A compass. My compass. Since coming back into the industry, she’s been that struct’cha for me. The world perceived our relationship differently in our earlier stages. She was young , real young , and people wasn’t tryna understand why I left where I was to be with her. Most people was bullshittin sayin it was sex, life crisis or some shit’ like that. (Chuckles) I was in my early thirties, covering Forbes , and winning gold, fuck a life crisis. My babygirl was my compass as I stated before and every time I got off my path, she’d be right there to see me through. (To the cameras) Go getchu a compass.

I: That was well said. I don’t think I will ever look at the word compass the same.

Jude: I’m sayin.

I: Jude, the sudden rivalry with your sons.

I raised all my kids to have a mind of their own, to use common sense, and to stand up for what they believe. I respect their stance but what I won’t tolerate and what will get ya feelings hurt, is disrespecting me. You won’t go far with that Han’. Respect goes a long way. I: One of the most touching subjects that no one has had the courage to talk or ask about was the death hoax. You’ve asked platforms to not ask the question but you have had a change of heart and chose us to share that with us which I’m very grateful. Jude what happened on that day? Bali....you left Rico on this island and you were gone from the world. What triggered the idea?

Jude: bein at war with myself. I left my marriage , was on the brick end of divorce. Everybody thinks that it had everything to do with Rico, that wasn’t the case. Rico came right there near the end. Jayde and I weren’t in the best place at that time and when it became evident that we were finished, it did a numba’ on me. Divorce is tough. We have children, businesses, family members on both ends, friends on both ends, I divorced everyone and so did she. It’s a sad thing. So with that, my struggles with having to split our children at the time, to split our family period...all that guilt caught up with me. Suicide was my choice. Neva told nobody that shit cept Don. I couldn’t go along with it so..

I: you found a way to do it without having to end your life.

Jude: Exactly. Best choice? Yes and No. The aftermath hurt people that I loved, which is what I’m dealing with now. Even after 3 odd years. People still affected. I get it, but it’s time they know that it wasn’t to spite them, make em feel a way, at that point, that moment, that second, I made the decision to end it. The way I was lookin at it was aight, y’all hate me already for divorcin and cheatin, I hate myself too, why don’t I leave?

I: We are glad you didnt leave Jude.

Jude: Appreciate That. I do. Facts are facts. I made that choice, I got to live with those consequences. Good news though? I taught my kids common sense. A few anyway, after they got their disapproval out the way, they hurt, they picked their pops up, secured his wounds, now we workin on fixin our relationship. I love em. Same goes for Rico. Cept she licked my wounds. (Laughing) Nah I’m fuckin witcha...(winks)

2017 is the year when everyone is tired of all the bullshit. It is the year when you can’t just be a silent witness. It is the year when whistleblowers brought horrible people down, some of which managed to keep a shiny facade for decades all while being pieces of crap behind closed doors. It is the year (Afro-)American football athletes acted like heroes. It is the year Australia voted in favour of same-sex marriage and realized that love was the answer.

Don’t get me wrong: 2017 was horrible in an awful lot of ways. But we need to look at the positive if we want to be able to advance in 2018. Many artists felt the need to address the state of the world as it is right now and managed to make diamonds from the coal. Some were confrontational, some were loving and caring. But all of the artists behind the 100 songs on this list helped on their own scale to make our lives more bearable.
