THE ONE WHERE YOU TWO ARE ROLEPLAYING HUBBY AND WIFU
warnings: may include cheating.
• “Where is that son of a bitch!”
• “Miss y-y/n, I’m afraid I can’t let you in there.”
• Seonghwa was indisputable.
• has one thing coming if he thinks you aren’t going to kill him in the next 5 mins.
• “Let me in Yeosang, or so help me god— Seonghwa’s going to be the last thing you’ll be afraid of.”
• you couldn’t believe it the first time you heard it.
• the words racking in your head still.
• it can’t be true right?
• that’s why you brought yourself all the way over here to ask.
• because there’s NO way it’s be true.
• “Y/n, you cannot—“
• “Shove it, you good for nothing piece of shit.”
• Seonghwa’s eyebrow cocks up and he gestured the men in the room down upon your gracefulness.
• or lack of it.
• “Baby, calm down first and—“
• “Calm down?”
• god he was almost going to make you laugh.
• “CALM DOWN?! You want me to fucking calm down after I hear from multiple parties that you’ve been dicking down other women and you expect me to calm down?”
• Seonghwa sits.
• fucking sits in amusement and this?
• this brought a big deal of contempt for you.
• filthy excuse for a freaking husband,
• “You lying sack of shit.”
• “Baby, I was miles away at the time and—“
• you stick your middle finger up,
• the room cold and brass.
• loyalty questioned at the sight of Seonghwa’s wife being so careless.
• he stands, eyes black walking towards you.
• “Don’t you—“
• you stop him by slipping off your ring with fingers faced up in front of him before sticking it down his shirt.
• “Fuck you. Go whore around with someone else, I’m through.”
• “You can’t just fucking leave.”
• “Yeah? Watch me.”
• your relationship with Seonghwa was complicated.
• you two didn’t exactly love each other?
• more so arranged to be together.
• you were the heir of black market royalty.
• and a close by king just so happened to be looking for a wife.
• though you were not happy
• maybe less of in love than needed,
• you refused to claim a cheap bastard as your husband.
• taunting your name and rep
• while he fucking cheats on you.
• no.
• NO.
• while you two have had some fun and games role-playing husband and wife,
• the jealousy wasn’t just there because of the label anymore.
• and you scorn at the idea of being in love with him.
• but it’s the truth and nothing but.
• “Well, if it isn’t Mrs. Park Seonghwa.”
• you take a seat on his lap and bury your face in his neck.
• “I’m gonna combust one day, Joong. Can’t stand him.”
• “Babe, your husband wouldn’t be too keen with you on another man’s lap. Let alone it being his status rival.”
• you pout against him, eyes sultry and sad.
• “Well since he fucked some lowlife skank, I don’t think it matters all that much. Can’t you just love me instead considering he can’t?”
• Hongjoong chuckles.
• thinking it’s cute you always go to him for your problems and stresses.
• but he knows you love Seonghwa far too much to make anything of it.
• won’t admit it to you since you can’t even admit it to yourself.
• “He’ll know you came here again. And he’ll just send his dogs to come get you. You’re gonna start a gang war one day, babe. Can’t just keep rutting me every day you two fight. That’s not fair is it?”
• “No.”
• you’re in defeat.
• you’d LOVE to have Hongjoong.
• deep down secretly wished he was the man on the arrangement contract.
• would want him instead of Seonghwa on most days.
• “I left my ring behind. I know that asshole planted a tracker on there. Don’t want to be found till next month.”
• “Y/n..”
• “Flaking on dates? The nights out he spends with the boys. The constant busy schedule without me in it— yes I can take that. I can take it when my husband deprives me of certain styles of attention. But if it’s cheating— giving something to another woman he can’t even spare for me? Time, Joong. It’s all I’ve asked for. And it’s unforgivable.”
• Hongjoong’s conflicted.
• loves you but knows you love Seonghwa.
• of course, being a mafia boss, there’s no avoiding the additional sex life.
• people like him and Seonghwa don’t fall in love that easily.
• “Have you ever expressed this to him?”
• you shake your head against the warmer toned gang lord. “No. Would never think to. He wouldn’t give me a minute to speak let alone a second no doubt.”
• Hongjoong rubs circles on your back before saying, “I think the both of you, despite my lack of judgement for that crackhead, need time away. Properly. Where he knows you won’t be back and you know you won’t too.”
• “Joong..”
• “Yes, I can hide you. But only for a little. Promise me you’ll think about your actions. Words to say, hm? We aren’t normal people, y/n. Therefore normal social standards like cheating, dating, all that fluff shit you’d been brainwashed to consider isn’t in our blood. Remember that too.”
• you look up at the ceiling, hands crossed on your chest.
• waking up has always been empty.
• empty when Seonghwa’s a busy man.
• rarely makes time for you.
• but you’d kill a man—
• kill a man to get Seonghwa to be with you.
• “Y/n, Seonghwa’s offered an ultimatum. Might want to hear it.”
• you sit up upon hearing Hongjoong’s voice.
• and you’re eyes stern on the phone in his hand.
• “He called?”
• “Didn’t just call. Warned.”
• you bit down on your lip before listening to his harsh vicious voice that spoke in the voicemail.
• “I’m giving you two days to come home. Two. You don’t want to see me angry, y/n. Don’t want to hurt your precious Hongjoong. Don’t make me fight for you, baby. Don’t get yourself in trouble.”
• you scream throwing the phone to the wall in pure astonishment.
• “The audacity!”
• Hongjoong sits beside you in attempt to comfort you.
• “You two are like the moon and the sun.”
• you want to cry for the first time.
• though your father and your blood line has taught you not to,
• you do.
• “Complete opposites. But unconditionally there for each other.”
• “You’re just saying that so I don’t end up starting a war.”
• “Even if that’s partly true, you know you’re just here so he’d feel what you felt. What you felt when he cheated on you.”
• he was right.
• Fuck, you hated to admit it.
• but GOD.
• satan has you on lockdown with Seonghwa.
• a soulmate you were damned to instead.
• “Keep her in the play room.”
• you glare at your husband as his men keep your hands bound behind your back.
• “Seonghwa, let me go.”
• you’ve never seen him this angry.
• this hot.
• this cold.
• towards you?
• no.
• “Why are you stopping?”
• “Sir she’s our boss too.”
• you glare through your eyes,
• the same fire you undoubtedly shared with your husband.
• waiting till he looked back at you.
• “Imbeciles.”
• Seonghwa was weak against you.
• knew he couldn’t—
• didn’t have power over you.
• when you could do the same things he could.
• it spited him.
• “Why chase after me when you could freely mingle with other women to fill my spot?”
• his chuckle’s dark and spineless, wiping at his dirty hands from behind his desk.
• “Would you prefer that instead?”
• no.
• “I loathe you, Park Seonghwa.”
• “Right back at you baby.”
• you don’t want him to see you cry.
• to see you break.
• you thinks it’s losing.
• but—
• admit it, y/n, you lost.
• “Seonghwa, I don’t want to be married to you anymore.”
• he stops where he stands.
• shoulders stiff at the request.
• “Seonghwa, I want to find love. Someone who’ll love me— when you can’t. I don’t want this world and I never have. Keep the label, keep my privelages. But I don’t want you to keep me anymore.”
• it’s rare.
• for him to hear you vulnerable.
• you weren’t raised like that.
• he didn’t know you like that.
• you were pressed against the door, voice the softest when you spoke.
• “You only need those right? I don’t. Never wanted it, so keep it.”
• you knew Seonghwa.
• Seonghwa’s a savage brutal beast.
• how you fell in love with him, you still don’t know.
• “Let me go..”
• his eyes darken.
• lips tremble.
• jaw clenched.
• “No.”
• “Please.”
• you beg him.
• to unlock the shackles he unknowingly bound you with.
• “This was a contract. One to death and—
• “Is that all I am to you?”
• you were washed with pure resentment when Seonghwa’s looked like he always did.
• careless
• the one look that you want so bad as to see change.
• at least once.
• once for you.
• “I’m just a stupid contract. One that keeps you on your goddamn pedestal, right?”
• “Y/n—“
• “What, no baby this time, Seonghwa? Not gonna call me that retched pet name you gave me since you met me? What you keep insisting I am when I’m not.”
• he blinks, not saying a word.
• “I’m not asking you. I’m begging you. To let me go, Seonghwa. I’ll even claim righteous plea of guilt for your sake if that’s what you want.”
• was he seriously not gonna say anything?
• just stand there 10 ft away staring at you like a waste of space?
• “Say something you asshole!”
• it’s hot.
• you felt hot, felt uncomfortable.
• felt out of place.
• “How can I say anything when you’ve already figured out what you want?”
• because you want him to fight for you.
• how stupid you are to think this was a novel romance—
• your arranged love life.
• bullshit.
• “If I told you I want to keep you, you wouldn’t stay. If I asked you to stay, you’d still go. If I let you go, you wouldn’t come back. So leave. If you already know what you want.”
• your fingernails sunk so far into your palms you swear you feel blood drip out.
• heart in so much pain, you forgot how to breath, how to think.
• then for a split second.
• that split second you see his eyes change.
• and like that, you’re putty in his hands.
• “Leave.”
• your lips tremble and you firm your place in front of the door.
• “You want to go? I’m letting you. Go.”
• tears fall from your eyes and you blur out for a minute.
• only to miss the powerless glint in his own.
• “Y/n.”
• you take a the first 9 steps towards him, fast paced and disoriented—
• only for him to take the last step, lips crashing onto yours.
• it’s back arching, the first kiss you share in a long time.
• the first kiss you’ll only count in your books.
• the one kiss—
• where he means it.
• “Don’t want you to go. Don’t.” he mumbles, fingers lacing into your hair as you bend against him under both wills. “I’m not asking you, y/n. I’m begging you. Please.”
• “Don’t go.”
• you forget for a minute who you two are.
• Not y/n.
• Not Park Seonghwa.
• two human beings with the right to feel.
• two human beings with the right to love.
• “Give me a reason to stay.”
• his lips are like the thorns on a rose.
• the bittersweet taste of strawberry’s lingering your own.
• “You’re not just a contract. You’re my baby. My first love. The only love I’d ever allow? My soulmate— my everything. Can’t be Park Seonghwa without you. Not without you.”
• “Do you think that’s a good enough reason for me to stay?”
• you don’t doubt it.
• but you want to hear it anyway.
• cause you think you’ve finally won against the big bad mischevious Park Seonghwa. And shit did it feel good.
• “It’s enough for me.”

"greek-Bros: The Return of an Old Enemy"
Chapter 5: One Man's Weakness is his Own Wife
The preparations for the Dionysia was underway; maenads, satyrs and villagers decorate the streets with flowers, purple and gold ribbons. The amphitheater was being prepared for this year's theme of "The Downfall of Troy", a theme that Apollo earlier in the month repeatedly objected towards but Dionysus completely forgotten why Apollo didn't approve of....until the Dionysia.
Dionysus was helping his theater troops with the set. "A LITTLE TO THE LEFT!" Dionysus shouted to two stage hands movie a large crude cut-out of a very angry Zeus, "NO THE OTHER LEFT!" he shouted again.
The stage hands were at this point a little confused on where to go, so the both of them just stand completely still to see if Dionysus actually noticed. Dionysus tilts head head to see if the angle is right and stares at the cut-out. "..... perfect, now all need to do is fix the curtains an-" he suddenly felt a light tap on his shoulder, he turns around and sees Apollo we a stern look on his face with Ariadne next to him with a look of concern.
"Um.... Dionysus....is THAT supposed to be dad?" Apollo questioned as he pointed to what basically was the equivalent of a child's drawing of Zeus with sharp teeth, a unibrow and a few inaccurate details that would be obvious to most people.
"Um yes. Yes it is.", Dionysus defended the depiction with all his heart, "I made it myself....with Kale's help, he's been extremely helpful." He points to Kale, who ironically is the director of the play for Dionysia, helping with choreography with a group of maenads. He turns back to Apollo and Ariadne, he steps past Apollo and goes straight to Ariadne, romancing her with the same vigor as if it was still love at first sight.
"Ah sweet pea, you made it" he gives a small kiss her hand, "-listen I have been dieing to get your opinion on the set up for act 3 ," gives another kiss up her forearm, "-the maenads have helped with casting pretty well so far buuuut I may need-" kisses again up the arm, "-someone to fix the costumes for Ares and Heracles though, mostly because it's a little too small for the both of t-" again Dionysus was interrupted mid sentence with Ariadne placing he finger on his lips. As much as she adored Dionysus's courting and him in general, she also equally adored her subjects as any queen would. She lets out a sigh and gives Dionysus kiss on his nose.
"Dionysus, love, we need to talk.", stated Ariadne, "It's about the festival, we HAVE to call it off and continue on another day." she continued. "Apollo told me everything about what's been going on. If it's not safe for the public to be out as soon as the sun goes down, than we must postpone the festival." she argued.
He couldn't believe his own ears, first his brother and now his own wife attempts to convince him to cancel a celebration. So he attempts to continue his 'counter measure', he continues to woo her. He picks her up in his arms. "Oh don't worry my little pomegranate seed, things aren't THAT bad, it was probably the cats being naughty.", he tried to convince her as he started to nuzzle her neck. His stubble tickled Ariadne, she lets out a few giggles, suddenly the two are now locked into a battle of dodging the topic and inappropriate amounts of "pda". The two went back and forth on topic of canceling the event for the safety of the residence. It was between the traditions to party hardy or to prevent a possible mass animal attack that has yet to be resolved.
Meanwhile Apollo is standing three feet away completely growing tired kf the two's public displays of affection, mostly because he personally feels not only is this a massive waste of time but also it makes him feel internally irritated knowing he doesn't have anyone to do this with at moment... subsequently feeling left out. "You two DO realize it's four hours until sunset, I need to at least know you two will be safe before I leave." He interjected.
The two were currently locking lips with each other, Dionysus knew full well this couldn't go on much longer. Dionysus finished his kiss with Ariadne.
Like most men, he didn't like his mind or his plans changed. "How about....we make it during the day?" he suggested, he reasoned that since the attacks have mostly happened at night that there was plenty of time to celebrate.
Ariadne nodded her head no, "No, Apollo had mentioned some these animals have attacked during the day too. He's seen them occasionally, we have to postpone. Maybe during a day that..." She thought about her request...." No nevermind.", She blurted.
Dionysus was confused, was there truly a way out of this annoying cancelation? "... nevermind what?" He asked.
Ariadne has set her trump card, "oh, maybe...just to make the people feel a little bit safer... invite your father to the Dionysia?", she bashfully asked.
Dionysus stood there with a blank expression, a few seconds later, he started laughing. "Ahahhahaha, oh Ariadne, that's really fucking funny hahaha!" he laughed continuously, he looked up and saw Ariadne's face, she wasn't very happy. "Ohhhh you're serious." He realized what she was suggesting wasn't a joke, but a genuine suggestion. "Look, I'm NOT going to bother my dad to babysit us. Delphi honestly isn't in any danger, and we've had two attacks....in three months!" He argued. The conversation started to get a little more serious.
Ariadne let out a small huff, "I know you want to keep the festival going but the safety of people are a little bit more important than tradition right now. I don't care if it was two, or three or a thousand attacks, you know very well that the festivities will be ruined if someone gets hurt.", she told him. "Please I beg you, not just for my sake but the sake of whomsoever might get hurt. It's either you get your father to come over to make sure nothing bad happens....or no sex....for a year, plus no cuddles either. Seriously Dionysus, if someone gets killed over this I swear I probably won't talk to you afterwards!" She was at her limit, if Dionysus was going to be stubborn about festival, than she was going to be stubborn with him.
Dionysus was at an impasse, he couldn't risk making his ultimate wine-wifu upset and to top it off he could not stand the idea of being ignored by her for such an undisclosed amount of time. He also couldn't just CANCEL one of the most important holidays in Greece, mostly Dionysia was also a performing arts contest, and Delphi has been going strong for several years against Delos and Sparta so his ego was on the line. He turned around and pondered to himself, hoping to figure out a way he could make both parties happy. "What if I raised the defenses around the town?....what if I can make wine bombs....that makes wolves too drunk to attack people?" he suggested,.
Ariadne stood there speechless, trying to decide if she was shocked or not to hear this from Dionysus. She motioned to one of the maenads to hand her a prop. A maenad handed her a peacock feather, mostly she didn't want to be responsible for any injuries the Dionysus could probably sustain from this. Ariadne with a gentle smile, worked with what she got, started whipping him with the feather. "YOU. ARE. SO. DAMN. STUBBORN. WINE. CAN'T. SOLVE. NOT. BEING. ALIVE." She shouted as she 'mercilessly' hit his shoulders and back.
Dionysus couldn't help but defend himself by curling up and blocking his face. At this point, he was already in hot water with Ariadne, so he decides to pretend to actually be hurt and start screaming.
Apollo was now just sitting on a director's chair that was provided but one of the stage hands, in fact the whole amphitheater's staff and volunteers were watching this incredible marital dispute. It was rare to see Dionysus and Ariadne fight, some even started to provide snacks to each other. "HOW ABOUT THIS-" Apollo announced.
Dionysus and Ariadne both stop and looked at Apollo. The two pausing midway through their dramatic theatrics.
Apollo stood up and let out a long sigh, "look, if it makes you feel better Dionysus.....as compensation for losing a day-" he said mid sentence.
"A WEEK" Ariadne shouted, she hoped to at least wait a week to make full sure what ever has been going would be solved within the week.
"NO. THATS TOO LONG!" Dionysus furiously responded but was again getting pelted by Ariadne's peacock feather. "AAAH NO NOT AGAIN!" he shouted.
Apollo continued on, "..... loosing a week of the Dionysia, I will make it sunny....for a whole week....just so that you celebrate...none stop...for a whole week." Apollo knew he was going to make BILLIONS of mortals completely confused, ruin many people's sleep schedule...but all to convince the god of wine to cancel a party.
Ariadne was very happy about the idea but it was something. "DEAL!", she shouted, she stopped whipping Dionysus with the feather. Dionysus stood up, not even feeling anything, with his ego a little bruised having had his will be bent. He begrudgingly decided to the agreement, "Fine. But I better get a summertime blow out during that week dude." He conditioned.
Apollo could breath a sigh of relief, he had at least avoided disaster for the citizens of Delphi. Now it was off to Delos to arrange some defenses around the countryside. Delphi may not have any 'wolves', but he was worried of Delos did. "Well, good to see we're at an accord. Dionysus, please be careful tonight and good luck to you, Lady Ariadne." He waved as he went to find his chariot.
Ariadne and Dionysus waved goodbye to Apollo. Ariadne looked up at Dionysus and tried to tickle him the the peacock feather on his neck. He tried to not crack a smile but he couldn't resist being ticklish let alone be mad at his wife. "Hahahehehe, ok ok, sorry sweetie. I just really hate canceling anything." He apologized.
Ariadne chuckled and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "it's ok, but your brother is right you know." She assured him. "Come on, I'll help you pack a few things up." She went on to help put away some of the decorations. Dionysus turned around, "Ok pack up the small stuff everyone! Dionysia is cancelled for the week!" He announced. The staff and followers were all shocked and some started to comment amongst themselves. "Don't worry, the party will continue next week with a full week of sunshine and hardcore partying. As of tonight...um...just like... don't go out at night. Stay home and get wasted indoors my dudes." He finished off his announcement, turned to went to help with putting away some of the things.
Kale had finally comeback from a 45 minute wine break and was completely confused as to why everyone was putting away everything. "Ok seriously I need to lay off the marlot because WHAT THE FUCK did I just FUCKING nap through the Dionysia?!" He shouted. A satyr walked up to fill Kale in, "um nah brah, Dionysia is cancelled until next week....after that its party time on steroids." Kale at first was frustrated because he worked on the dance routine for the play, until he realized there was a whole week to make some changes. "GASP! I must go, improvement awaits!" He dramatically left to come up with another part of the scene.

Thoughts on Mary Magdalene (2018)
Here is my completely non-professional review of Garth Roberts’ film ‘Mary Magdalene’:
....Meh.
Okay, to be fair, I watched this on New Years Day when I was slightly hungover so I probably owe it a rewatch with my full attention. But here are my initial thoughts. There really isn’t much to spoil but, for what little is ‘original’ on this take....Spoilers Ahead!
The Good.
- I enjoyed the scenes with Mary’s family. I think the shift to making her a midwife made a lot of sense and reminded me a little of the Red Tent (which, like this movie, also has a squicky scene that reminded me why I never want to give birth, but that’s another point). But I like the connection she had with her....sisters in law, I think? Possibly even a stepmother? To be honest, they don’t do too well establishing who these people are or if it’s just a community sharing a house. The jist I got was that Mary’s blood relatives were her brothers and her dad, who I did like. They were patriarchal and traditional, but they weren’t painted as villains. Even when they try to ‘cleanse’ her, you can see how torn up about it they are, and believe what they’re doing is out of love.
- I especially liked Mary’s dad. Most Magdalene legends always have him as an asshole who just views his daughter as chattel to sell off, but you could tell this dude adores her and stops his sons from almost drowning her, and he holds her throughout the night, clearly wracked with guilt. The scene where he tearfully lets Mary go to join Yeshua was really well done and I’m kinda sad we don’t see him for the rest of the movie. This is mostly a personal thing but I just personally prefer the idea of Mary being close with her father, as something of a mirror to Yeshua and his mother.
- Joaquin Phoenix is a very different Jesus than what I’m used to seeing and I’m glad about that. I can’t say he’s my favourite (that’s still Ralph Fiennes), and yes it’s another sad case of white washing a Palestinian Jewish man. But that aside, I thought he brought a vulnerability to Jesus that you don’t usually see, unless it’s during scenes like the Passion which mostly take place off screen here as it’s all through Magdalene’s POV. Like you see Jesus become overwhelmed and drained by healing people and, like Mary, I did feel like I just wanted to get him away and somewhere safe, even though Peter and the others kept encouraging people to come to the Messiah.
-  As I mentioned before, Mary is given a different backstory here than the penitent prostitute. She’s also not given the ‘madness’ of being possessed by any actual, or implied, demons. It’s more that she’s trapped in a life she doesn’t want and feels depressed, which is definitely relatable, now as much as back then for a lot of people; women especially. So I thought Yeshua’s scene of ‘healing her’ being less of a “Begone demon!” and more him comforting and consoling her, reassuring her of God’s love, was pretty sweet.
- Similar to Mary, this movie follows a bit of a ‘Gnostic’ trend, on its take with Judas as well. He’s given a more personal motivation, as he’s not just out for bloody revenge on the Romans, it’s more that he wants the prophecy to be fulfilled so he can see his late wife and daughter again. Other than her tense relationship with Peter, he’s the disciple that Mary talks to most and they have a close connection to the end. And the movie implies that Judas’ betrayal was ‘part of the plan’ or what needed to kick things into motion....or at least he believed that was the case. It wasn’t just a case of selling his rabbi out for silver.
- Mary baptising the women. Honestly it was seeing gifs of this scene that made me want to see the movie and it didn’t disappoint. It was just a nice moment. Also how they bookended the movie with the verse on the mustard seed and the woman who tended to it tying into Mary helping to grow the kingdom. Also, I LOVE that the focus of her is that she is a spiritual woman in her own right. While she clearly loves Yeshua, it is not even implied to be sexual. Romantic, possibly, but could also be just as much platonic. The two have decent chemistry for what their bond is - SHE IS NOT HIS WIFU. Thank you, movie! Also the scene of her washing his feet followed by sitting at his side at the Last Supper with the shot being framed with her as his right hand girl. Nice little touches that just showed this movie cared about wanting to do the image of Magdalene justice.
Right, now the....Not So Good.
- Anyone familiar with the Gnostic gospels knows that Peter doesn’t always get shown in the best light, especially in his and Mary’s relationship. So, other than the Romans etc, he’s the closest this movie has to an antagonist, in that he’s the one who is most opposed to Mary in the group. And while his character isn’t terrible, he’s not even technically a bad guy, there’s something annoying about how they white washed everyone else but had the antagonist played by a black man. It just annoys me when movies and tv do that, like; “see, we have diversity! The heroes might be white but the guy you’re meant to be against is a poc!” BBC are apparently doing a similar thing with their latest retelling of Les Mis.
- If you’re going to tell a Jesus story through the eyes of Mary Magdalene, how about take advantage of the source material. There’s a pretty good scene where Mary helps Jesus speak to women in a village before she baptises them and he speaks about forgiveness etc and it’s a fine speech. But I feel like opportunities were missed to see Mary involved in canon scenes of Jesus interacting with women; like the woman who touches his cloak in the crowd, or raising Jairus’ Daughter or the Canaanite Woman’s child, or the woman at the well, or the ‘cast the first stone’ woman who is often wrongly said to be Magdalene. The movie also forgets that Yeshua had other women followers besides his mother, who also doesn’t get as much screen time as she deserves. There’s no sign of the younger Mary, or Martha, or Salome etc who we could have seen Mary interact with or even preach to. At the end we get a bit of a cool shot where, after the men have dismissed Mary’s vision, it’s the women who gather to her - but it’s very brief and feels too little too late.
- I wouldn’t be too miffed at them cutting out scenes from the Bible if they were going to replace them with anything interesting and unique, but the movie just...doesn’t. There’s a sort of side quest plot where Peter and Mary go to a village to preach and find a load of people dying and at first I thought the point was that it strengthens their friendship...but in the end it didn’t and I didn’t really understand the point other than to show Mary was compassionate and Peter kind of short-sighted which was already pretty clear. Maybe use that time to establish more why Peter has something against Mary other than just the implication that he’s...jealous, I guess. The movie is almost two hours long and between Mary leaving her family and them coming to Jerusalem, I can barely tell you what happens in that hour or so.
- I get the feeling that this movie wanted to focus more on Mary’s time with Jesus before the Passion, which are scenes we’ve already seen focused on enough times, and I’m all for that. But how the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection scenes are handled feel very rushed. She’s absent through most of the crucifixion until the very end, the scene of her witnessing the resurrection is pretty badly juxtaposed (and there’s no “do not touch me” moment) that I had to watch it twice to see if it was really there or a different ‘vision’. And her being the actual Apostle to the Apostles feels like it was trying to mix in the disciples rejection of her from the Gospel of Mary and I felt like you could have had that be two separate scenes. Basically the key moment Magdalene is celebrated, whether in Orthodox or mystic Christian circles, is barely present in the movie centred around her.
- And the biggest criticism I have with the movie is sadly Mary herself. Most of this might be subjective but one of the most captivating traits of Magdalene’s character is her passion. Her energy. It contrasts her to the mild and patient Virgin Mother. This Mary is very quiet and collected, which doesn’t make her a bad character, but it just doesn’t feel very Magdalene-y. And I think you can still have her be passionate while still taking away the ‘mad whore’ stereotype she’s been wrongly given for so long. The Red Tent, again, managed to do a wonderful job having Dinah as a strong, no-nonsense heroine. There didn’t seem to be anything that really made Mary stand out from any other woman around her. She starts off with a bit of a Disney Princess trope of not wanting to get married and wanting more than is expected of her, but given her surroundings and the women she meets later on, that also doesn’t make her stand out all that much. The actress does okay with what she’s given, but - other than some key scenes between her and Yeshua - I just don’t really my Magdalene there.
But, to the movie’s credit, I do feel like it was trying to show THEIR Magdalene, which is fair enough. And just like Yeshua, there really is no one right way of seeing her. I prefer to see her as a loud, loving, somewhat eccentric passionate spiritual teacher and leader, but this movie wanted to show her as something different from what we’ve seen before; brave but restrained, caring and understanding, and definitely enlightened as much if not more than the male disciples. And it did a pretty good way of showing that, even if I think it could have been done better with an improved overall narrative.
Overall; I just kind of found the movie dull. I respect it for trying to show the Magdalene in a better light and almost as an example for women as leaders in the Church. But I hope this can also be done in a more entertaining movie someday. Again, my favourite Magdalene depiction is still from the Miracle Maker. Yes, it begins with following the ‘repentant mad prostitute’ story, but that’s pretty quickly resolved in a powerful scene and she remains throughout the rest of the film at his side and her meeting him outside the tomb always gets me teary eyed. Similar to Prince of Egypt, I enjoy biblical movies more when they don’t shy away from the drama and character conflict, rather than trying to focus on pushing the story we already know. We can all just read the Bible to get that but the point of a movie is to make us feel like we are there and invested and, for lack of a better word, entertained. Animated movies allow more of the drama to get expressed than live action actors can. It’s a shame they are both written off as ‘childrens versions’ because I think both PoE and MM feel more adult and handle their stories with more depth than the live action versions.
Would I recommend this film though? I guess if you’re a die-hard Magdalene fan like me, you’ll get something out of it with seeing a story where she isn’t turned into a prostitute, and getting to see her baptise people and get across how she understood Yeshua’s message. Just don’t be expecting anything amazing. Kind of annoyed there wasn’t a rental option on Amazon Video because I definitely don’t think it’s worth a buy, but hey ho.

Mc who dabbles in nail art
Idea: MC dabbles in nail art and asks to practice on RFA + Saeran + V Authors Note: I got this idea by looking/getting my nails done by this amazing girl named Jessica who dabbles in nail art (Instagram). If you're in the FL area make an appointment it's quality stuff!!
Yoosung :
When he first met you at the party he didn’t really notice your nails.
But when you first visited his dorm They were bright green (his heart color ^_^)
He noticed little LOLOL designs on them
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Ow yoosung, bean my ears….
“CAN YOU DO MY CHARACTER ON MINE?!?!?!?”
I duno can you stop screaming?
It turns out you couldn’t he bit his nails.
Sad pup:(
You could still do little things. :)
You did the base colors after his personal character.
Maroons, an amethyst color, and gold
You did magic like swirls, as his character is a warlock
He was staring at you,
To be honest he was paying more attention to you then most of his professors.
He bragged to this friends that his girlfriend was so talented.
His girl space for the friend zone friends, ended up asking if you would do manicures and designs on them.
He started looking if there were any nail art clubs at school.
Jumin :
You wanted to do your nails before the party
But all your nail stuff was at the apartment….cry
So after the party when you moved all your stuff he was the boxes of nail stuff
Confused kitten
“Love? What’s the purpose of pain in such small bottles?”
Nails?
You showed him the cat art you did on your hands.
He wouldn’t let you do it to him because of work
But when ever you did it he would watch intently.
His favorite ones you ever did were
Royal purple base, on all nails except pinkes
On your pinkes you did a white base with grey stripes going down.
On your thumbs you did paws
On your pointer and ring fingers you did little ears
On your middle fingers were eyes, nose and whiskers
So when you held you hands out it made a little cat face
Kinda ( ^ ) ( • >•< • ) ( ^ ) Zen :
He saw your nails when you went to his house
He became obsessed with them as they changed frequently.
He always asked where you got them done and you always shrugged “no where.”
When you moved in with him he finally saw all your polish and tools.
He was dumbfounded to say the least.
One night you were looking up things for inspiration.
Then you saw ones inspired by zen.
“Zenny…?”
You asked him you could do some art on his nails.
He was hesitant but compiled
You did a light pink matte color on all nails except index on both nails doing that a holographic sliver.
You drew a wolf on his right thumb and an eighth note on his left.
By the time you were done he looked like a fish.
His mouth was gaping
“Jagi? Thank you!”
He tried to move his hands but you slapped his wrist.
…..que confused zen.
“Nails. Wet. No move.”
Him waiting was the worst part.
Jaehee
She was stressing about the café
You decided to treat her.
Treat your wifu
You made her breakfast and coffee
Then gave her a manicure
You messaged her tired hands
Then you did a doddie (pastel) yellow.
On her middle fingers you drew little coffee cups
On her thumbs you did little treats like a cookie on one and doughnut on the other
On the pinky you did a lil bunny
On the other you did a lil fox
On the others you did a little drip style that was like chocolate and sprinkles on top.
She loved them was an understatement
Everyone who came in after wondered where she got them
She pointed over to you
At the beginning of every month you did a girls night
You did nails for people who asked **nicely** those nights
Seven :
When he did the background check he saw your intstagram
OOOOH BOIIII
After the tsundere shtuff he pulled
You moved into the bunker
He asked you before if you would do his nails
Ofc you said yes
You did gold holographic on all his nails except for his pointer fingers
On his pointer fingers you did black and drew 707 on one and a star on the other in glow in the dark paint
On his thumbs you did a honey budda chip design
You did one red and one white line for a varsity line style on his middle finger
You did a UFO on his pinkes
And left his ring fingers blank
He would get the most upset if they chipped or outgrew.
V
I mean at first he wouldn’t see your nails
ha ha ha….Im not sorry
But he could always smell the polish
But if/once he got the surgery he would see them
He was amazed at all the things you could draw on such small places
He would take photos of you doing them and the final products.
Then one night you asked if you could do his nails.
He’s V could he say no,,
You did his nails a color to match his hair.
You did a polaroid picture on his thumb. The other one you drew a camera.
And in the others you just did various nature designs.
Pretty flowers and trees and swirls
The one you made sure was included was on his left ring finger you did a cherry blossom design.
He was touched on how much you paid attention to him and what he liked
Saeran :
This edge master always had his nails black after the mint eye problem.
It made him look “Tough”
You asked him if you could paint them and do designs on them.
He was hesitant, but his painting was sloppy and cracks often.
So he let you pain them black, and you could design one nail.
He was still not used to people touching him so you took what you could.
So you painted his nails black.
On his right thumb, you painted a little vanilla ice cream cone.
He was amazed at the detail you put in, and secretly wanted more.
So each time you did his nails he would let you do another design,
Each time you did another ice cream flavor.
He had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint chip, etc.
He liked it because you always did his top favorites first
He finally felt truly cared for.
