I love the early household dynamics when it’s like:
NJ/L: Nandor! Tell your familiar what is what!
Nandor: He isn’t your familiar! But yes, Guillermo please help my friends with their thing.
Guillermo, who has basically been everyone’s shared familiar for ten years anyway: 🙄 fine. This is bullshit though.
Also Guillermo when Topher is Nadja and Laszlo’s familiar, but he gets a bit too familiar: 😠 literally electrocute yourself. I will not cry for you.
(Also funny to me how Guillermo with Topher is like, you have to follow my rules! I am running this household! Those are my vampires!)
#L and NJ put up with nearly all the things Nandor does#they’re kind of lax#actually#they will throw him under the buss for their own skin as of early season 2 though#Guillermo is always like those are my vampires yeah#he even has Nadja’s phone number apparently#wwdtis#guillermo de la cruz#nadja of antipaxos#laszlo cravensworth#nandor the relentless

don’t steal adrien’s phone - a fanfiction by miraculous_carnation
hi yall! this amazing piece of art isnt unfortunately done by me- it’s by the ultra charming miraculous_carnation on ao3, so be sure to check her out! i’ve gotten her permission to post this here, so dont worry! enjoy the show!
Lila Rossi posed for the camera, putting on a flirty face, Adrien sitting next to her. They were at the Palace of Versailles, the place for their photoshoot. Lila hugged Adrien in a way that made him uncomfortable, running her hands across his back. The photographer, noticing Adrien’s discomfort, asked them to take a 5 minutes break.
Lila walked to where Adrien was sitting. “So, Adrien! The photos are going to look awesome, right? I mean, we look so in love!”
Adrien’s eyes opened wide when he heard her voice. “Um, Lila? I know I’ve said this a lot, but can you please stop touching me? It makes me uncomfortable, and I already have a girlfriend,” Adrien tried to explain.
Lila narrowed her eyes at his last statement. Ugh, that Maritrash. What did Adrien see in her?
“Oh of course, Adrien! I’d never want to do something that would make you feel uncomfortable,” she whispered, leaning towards his mouth. Adrien grew stiff. Luckily, the photographer called for them just in time. Lila rolled her eyes, but then put on a fake smile.
“Oh well, anyways, we better go back, Adrien! We have to finish the shoot!”
Adrien hated photoshoots with Lila. They were the worst. Luckily, it was only for another 30 minutes, because after that, he had an interview with Nadja Chamack on Face to Face.
Lila hid behind a bush, watching Adrien get up and head toward the photoshoot. Perfect. She ran over to the table and picked up his phone.
“Well, Adrien, let’s see who you really love,” she smirked.
“Welcome back to, Face to Face! This is your host, Nadja Chamack, live in Paris!” Nadja Chamack enthusiastically said while the audience clapped. “Today, we have a very important guest. He’s a model, born here in Paris, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the son of world famous designer Gabriel Agreste, Adrien Agreste!”
2 seconds later, Adrien walked onto the stage, wearing a suit, created specially by his father, strutting in the way his father taught him when he was little. ‘Flash a flirty smile to the audience, then greet Nadja Chamack professionally’, his father’s words repeated in his mind. His father cared about his appearance and reputation, after all…
“Hello there, Nadja! How are you doing today?” Adrien politely asked. He wished he could be somewhere else, particularly running around as CHat Noir, maybe playing a game of tag with Ladybug…
“Oh, well I’m doing wonderful!” Nadja responded, snapping Adrien out of his daze. “Anyways, I’ve got a bunch of questions for you! First one, are you dating Lila Rossi, a fellow model from your father’s company? Are the rumors true?”
Adrien sighed. There were so many rumors about that going around, many of them created by Lila. She already convinced the class that they were dating, when he actually was dating Marinette.
“Sorry, Nadja, but that is incorrect. I am not dating Lila Rossi, but I am dating Marinette Dupain-Cheng, of who you may know.”
Nadja smiled at the name of her friend’s daughter. “Yes, I know Marinette, I commissioned her to create a dress for Manon for my sister’s wedding, and it came out beautiful! Everyone in the audience, go check out Marinette’s website!”
Lila Rossi was watching the Face to Face interview, fuming. She didn’t know he had an interview! How dare Adrien say that! She’d ruin his relationship with Marinette! She tapped into his phone, already knowing his password, courtesy of his father. Gabriel Agreste gave her access to all of his son’s social media accounts for safety reasons. She logged onto his Instagram account and made a new post, adding the photo of Lila kissing him on the cheek.
“So grateful for my girlfriend @lilarossi! Love you!”
She smirked. No way he was getting out of this one.
Nadja Chamack was confused. Apparently, a new post from Adrien on Instagram was posted just now, but how was it possible? Adrien was talking to her the whole time!
She coughed. “Adrien, it seems that there has been a new post on your Instagram,” Adrien looked shocked, “can we have the post on the screen?”
Adrien’s eyes grew wide as he saw the post. “Nadja, I didn’t post that! I couldn’t-”
“I know you didn’t, Adrien. You’ve been talking to me the whole time right now!”, Adrien let out a sigh of relief, “Is it possible your social media team did it?”
Adrien shook his head. “No, they don’t put out posts like that. They only put out posts that promote the brand!”
“So if it wasn’t your social media team, who was it?” Nadja said in confusion. There were several murmurs in the audience as well.
Adrien narrowed his eyes. “Well, I have a hunch. What is the post about?”
Nadja caught on with his thinking. “Oh, so you believe Lila Rossi posted this? How would she have gotten your phone?”
Adrien thought about what happened before the interview. “Well, you see, before coming here, I had a photoshoot with Lila. She probably took my phone then.”
Gabriel Agreste was watching from the safety of his home. Lila Rossi had not thought about this beforehand! She was going to ruin his plan and his brand! How dare she!
Nathalie walked in. “Sir, would you like me to delete the post and disable Adrien’s social media accounts?”
“Yes, Nathalie. Have Adrien’s social media team clean up the mess.” Gabriel sighed. The only good thing that came out of this was that he figured out his son was dating Marinette Dupain-Cheng. It was a good choice, as Marinette was exceptional.
Lila’s eyes grew wide at the revelation. She posted about herself on Adrien’s account when he was in an interview! It made her the prime suspect! Hopefully Mr. Agreste’s social media team could take the blame.
She dialed Mr. Agreste’s number. “Hello, is Mr. Agreste there?”
She was greeted with the monotone voice of Nathalie. “Excuse me, Miss Rossi, but Mr. Agreste has decided to terminate your contract on behalf of Gabriel. You will never model in his brand again. Goodbye.”
Lila gasped. How dare that dumb assistant! She was Lila Rossi! How dare Gabriel Agreste do that to her! She would ruin him!
“On top of recent events, Lila Rossi has lied about many things. She even got Marinette expelled once!” Adrien explained to Nadja, excited that he found a way to expose Lila.
Marinette was watching all of this from the comfort from her room, her mouth wide open. Well, she wasn’t super surprised, Lila would do something like this, but Adrien called her his girlfriend! Sure, they were dating, but she didn’t think he would announce it publicly!
Girl, are you watching Face to Face? Can you believe Lila lied?
Hold up, you’re dating Adrien? Why didn’t you tell me?
Girl, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me. I thought we were BFFs!
Marinette snorted at the latter. BFFs? Yeah, right. Alya literally announced to the class two weeks ago that their friendship was over and that her new best friend would be Lila. Go figure!
“Wow. As you can see, ladies and gentlemen, startling revelations about the newest Gabriel model has come through! Hold on, we have a new post from the official Gabriel Twitter account! Can we please have this on the screen?” Nadja exclaimed.
Adrien read the post, not surprised. Of course his father would try to save face. It wasn’t new. He was just happy he wouldn’t have to model with Lila anymore.
The audience and Nadja gasped when they read the post. “Wow! It looks like the Gabriel brand has officially terminated Lila Rossi’s contract!” Nadja had to act surprised because this was predictable from the fashion designer. Typical Gabriel.
“Well, folks! There was a lot of drama today, but that concludes today’s interview! I hope you come again for another episode of, Face to Face!” Nadja concluded.
Bonus Scene:
“Well, Adrien, you made a good choice with Marinette. She could take over the designing area of the company while you take over the business side. When will you marry her?”
“FATHER!”
“Well, kid, he’s not wrong. Pigtails makes pretty good bread. And oh how good it tastes with camembert! Oh my sweet gooiness!”
“Shut up, Plagg.”

Moving Forward — Chapter 7
Chapter Seven
Revealed... (pt. 2)
—————
"Enchanttréx, I am Hawkmoth. You've been betrayed by the person your loved one, I'm giving you the power to expose any secrets that were chosen to be hidden away from the world. In return, you will bring me ladybug and Chat Noir's Miraculous. Do we have a deal?"
"Yes, Hawkmoth."
The purple substance covered the woman in a wedding dress, and when it was gone it left a woman, who has an intricate gold flower-themed headpiece, long black hair that reaches up to her mid-back, a flowy white to black gradient dress, gold strapped heels, white laced gloves that reach up to her forearm and a veil in front of her face.
"It's time to let yourself free from your secrets!" Enchanttréx exclaimed making the nearby Parisians run away in fear and alerting the heroes.
— previous chapter... —
It took quite a while for Ladybug to get to the scene. People were shocked to see Ladybug with a new suit design. Instead of her previous red skintight jumpsuit with black spots. It was changed to a much more detailed suit.
She still wears a skintight jumpsuit but now she had two-inched heeled thigh-high black boots, solid black colour on her waist with inverted red spots instead of black, solid black gloves and her top looks armoured, her collar turns to swan-necked design still black in colour with red lining. Her hair is now tied in a ponytail that reaches up to her mid-back with two red and black ribbons sticking out of the ponytail acting as the antennas, her mask stayed the same.
Ladybug was worried about how to defeat her since she's alone and has no one to trust with the cat miraculous.
Meanwhile, inside the Agreste Mansion, Adrien was frantically searching around his room for his kwami, he kept looking back to his TV watching Ladybug fight the Akuma alone.
"Plagg! Where are you?!"
He didn't notice Ladybug capturing the villain with her yo-yo and snatching her headpiece with the veil attached and breaking it, freeing the Akuma. She captured it then cleansed it and used her miraculous cure to fix everything, reverting the villain to her civilian self in her wedding dress outfit.
She spent a good twenty minutes defeating the villain alone.
The reporters were pushing each other towards Ladybug to get an interview.
"Ladybug! What's with the new outfit? And where is Chat Noir?" Nadja Chamack asked.
Ladybug was about to swing her yo-yo to leave but was bombarded with that question. She sighed and took notice that she only had three minutes before she detransformed.
"The suit is just an outfit change, no need to worry about it. About Chat Noir... He has been relinquished of his miraculous, I have found out about his misdeeds in his civilian life and how he acted during the battles, I had no choice but to take his miraculous for he became unworthy of wielding it anymore. I need to go, I'm about to detransform." She said before waving and finally swinging away.
Adrien was staring at the TV before looking at his hand with the silver ring. He lost his miraculous. He can no longer be Chat Noir.
—————
"Hey, that's a good record!" She said after she had swung to her balcony then detransformed once she stepped inside her bedroom. The kwamis are patiently waiting for her while they eat food.
"He probably heard the news by now..." Marinette mumbled.
"Do you regret it? Taking the miraculous back?" Wayzz asked.
Marinette was in a daze for a moment thinking back to the good memories of them. The day they became heroes, how he supported her, protecting her from harm, their playful banter, everything. But even if she returns the miraculous to him, she can't trust him again. Not now, at the very least.
"No... I have a duty to Paris as Ladybug, but it is also my duty as Guardian to make sure that no miraculous will be used for evil."
Wayzz was pleased. When he first found out that his previous Master was planning to pass to a teenager the Guardianship of the Chinese Miracle Box, he was worried. It will be a huge responsibility for a teenager especially someone who has quite a future to reach, but Marinette has proved him wrong.
Marinette was busy sewing Clara Nightingale's commission not noticing that it was nearing dinner time. Allegra kept glancing at their dormmate's closed door, wondering if Marinette didn't like them, but it was easily dismissed since they have spent quite a while together, thinking that maybe the girl was just busy.
"Hey, Al. Is Marinette still in her room? Dinner's almost ready." Allan said.
He was mostly the cook since it became his habit to always cook with his mother. He had cooked them a lot of meals and sometimes experiments with recipes, but it always turns out good. Claude was preparing the dinner table and Félix was busy reading a book while sitting on a one-seater couch in the living room.
"She's been in there for quite a while, she might have the soundproof on," Allegra said.
"She might have a commission she's doing." Félix interrupted. Feeling all eyes turn on him.
"How do you know that?" Claude asked in a teasing voice.
"I looked her up to see if she has any social media accounts, I found out she's an aspiring designer with quite the accomplishments."
The trio was shocked. Allegra was immediately on her phone and searching her dormmate's name on the internet. She was shocked to see her name attached to a famous singer, rockstar, and even a fashion critique!
"Well, try and call her again, Dinner's ready," Allan announced.
Allegra was about to go when Félix beat her to it. She was shocked once again that their resident snob roommate is showing quite the attention to Marinette but she just shrugged it off. Félix stood in front of her door for a minute or two before he knocked.
"Marinette?" Felix called.
Inside, the girl didn't hear the call, but the kwamis did. They flew towards her to inform her that someone is calling her from outside her room. That was when she noticed the time. But it was too late...
The moment she placed down the dress she's embroidering neither her nor the kwamis that was near her, heard her unlocked door open.
When Marinette, whirled around she then froze, staring with wide eyes towards the blonde who was staring at her as well with his hand on her door's doorknob.
The Kwamis were staring at the two and in shame. Plagg was in the middle of swallowing a Camembert wedge then stopped and stared at the guy on the door, Tikki was nibbling her cookie but then paused.
"Uhm... I can explain...? They're... dolls...?" Marinette nervously said.
Félix blinked at her twice before answering, "Dolls? Dolls that are floating and... apparently can eat on their own..."
Marinette bit her bottom lip before breathing in hard. She grabbed Félix's hand then closed the door and made sure it is locked.
"Don't tell me..." Felix started.
Marinette avoided his gaze, "Then... I won't tell you." She said before giving him a sheepish smile.
Félix can only stare at her in bewilderment. His new dormmate, not only an aspiring designer who was done a lot of commissions for famous people, but is also someone important based on the number of the 'dolls' near her.
"Please, Félix... you can't tell anyone!" Marinette pleaded.
"What exactly are they? And how come there are so many of them?" Félix asked.
"... They're kwamis. They are the ones who give powers to Paris' superheroes..." Marietta hesitantly answered.
"And they are so many because... They are under my protection now..." She added.
He stared at her before looking at the dolls— kwamis that are still staring at them. And then looked back at her pleading face, he then also remembered the news of Ladybug relinquishing Chat Noir's miraculous, meaning that she's alone in the battlefield, she's alone against Hawkmoth.
"You're Ladybug... Paris' remaining hero." He said in conclusion only to have it confirmed by her when she looked away to try and avoid his gaze.
"Marinette... what you need is a team. A support team, base on your announcement earlier, you are alone against Hawkmoth. For now... think about it, if you need help, we're here to help. Let's go, dinner's ready." He said before opening her door and gestured for her to go with him to the dining area.
Marinette stared for a second before following him outside of the room, leaving the kwamis inside her bedroom.
"Oopsie...?" Trixx said nervously.
Plagg continued to eat his cheese before saying anything, "Well, the cat's out of the bag."
Some of the kwamis laughed at Plagg's statement, while Tikki looked at him with a deadpanned expression. "This is worrisome! Her secret's exposed!" She said.
"Tikki, calm down. This could be helpful to the Guardian. She could gain a new set of temporary heroes." Wayzz said.
—————
Meanwhile, a seething brunette is pacing back and forth in her room. She cursed Ladybug in Italian for almost ruining her then cursed her in french!
Earlier in the day, Lila, Rose, Juleka and Alix were together getting ice cream from André, when Enchanttréx came across them and hits her with the Akuma's powers. Lila started spewing out the truths while the rest of the girls are gaping at her.
She couldn't stop talking. She spewed out how she threatened Marinette in the bathroom, how she got 'injured' after being 'pushed' by Marinette, her thoughts about the class like how stupid they were, and many more. From her peripheral vision, she saw Ladybug stopped for a moment and glanced at them before swinging away.
Rose was mortified by what she heard.
Juleka was mumbling a lot and glaring at Lila. They didn't even notice her opening her phone and started recording the conversation, not even Lila noticed her.
Alix's angry expression was evident, she openly glared at the Italian brunette.
After a few minutes, the cure was cast, and Lila was trying to fix the situation but the other girls backed away from her and started walking away. Lila stood there for a while before running to their apartment and here she was now.
"That damn bug!" Lila shouted.
Rose and Juleka are currently on the Couffaine Houseboat— The Liberty. Juleka was comforting Rose whose crying a river on her shoulder while keeping an eye for any Akuma coming near. She tried to calm down the blonde, but Rose won't listen. Due to Lila's confession, it was clear that their previous findings were... real.
"Please, Rose... Calm down for a moment..." Juleka pleaded.
She then noticed her brother leaning on the doorway of his and her cabin. Luka Couffaine was starting at the scene in front of him. Deep inside, he was disappointed by his baby sister's choices. Instead of letting her other friends know, she hid it. He doesn't know why Juleka did it, he wanted to trust the girl's decisions, but Luka didn't know if it was the right thing to do.
"... What happened?" He asked, even though he might already have the answer.
Juleka stared at his brother's eyes before answering.
"We made a mistake..." She mumbled.
"She was right... That Lila was a liar, an Akuma happebed earlier, and Lila startes spewing a bunch of things... But..." Juleka added.
"No," Luka refuted.
"You said it yourself, Jules. You became aware of the situation, that someone in your friend group is a liar. Marinette only did what she was supposed to do, she tried to warn you all but only to be dismissed. You can't blame anyone else, Jules. You were warned by a friend, but you chose to go with everyone else and dismissed her claims. Then soon you knew about it, but didn't tell the others. You can't blame Lila here, you were the ones who believe her without any proof. You messed up. That's what happened. And I don't even know if you can still fix your mess..." He added.
Juleka could only drop her head lower due to shame. Rose who was listening to the conversation of the siblings, couldn't stop the aching part in her heart. Both of them know. They were at fault. Not Marinette, not Lila, but for them. They messed up, and by the time they realized their mistake, things might have been too late already.
Alix was back at her house, starting at a rolled-up banner in the corner of her room. A banner made by Marinette. She couldn't believe herself, if not because of that day's Akuma who knows when will they find out.
She pulled out the pocket watch given to her. In her head, she wished that she could turn back time, back to when Marinette was their friend and was warning them about Lila. She wished that she had the Rabbit Miraculous in her hands but she also knows that is a selfish thing to do.
Alix made a mistake. She doesn't know how to solve it. She didn't even know if she could even apologize for her mistake. For once, she desperately wishes that Bunnyx will appear and tell her about the future.
All three girls know that next school morning will be different from what they're used to... And it may not be the same ever again.
—————
The next morning came, Alix, Juleka and Rose were quite surprised that Lila hasn't arrived earlier than them. Alix immediately went to Kim and Max and explained what happened. Everyone could see that the trio that has two troublemakers is in a serious conversation, they could see Max typing furiously on his phone.
Juleka and Rose, however, went to a small group of their classmates. That group consists of Ivan, Mylene, Nathaniel, and surprisingly Sabrina.
But they were more surprised. Sabrina was telling the other three that Lila Rossi is a liar, but due to her reputation that is tied mostly to Chloé Bourgeois, people find it hard to believe. But when Juleka and Rose confirmed it, they were shocked, to say the least. Finding out that a classmate of yours enjoys toying with you to make themselves look popular can put a negative taste in your mouth. They didn't know that Nino arrived, they only noticed when Ivan saw Nino and his left hand raised, looks like to wave to someone, but frozen in his spot.
"... Nino...?" Mylene cautiously asked.
Instead of answering, he pulled out his phone and continued typing. They thought he'll text his girlfriend, but they saw him searching on the internet. Adrian saw his best friend and immediately went up to him, but was surprised at what he was doing.
"What's going on?" He asks.
"Finding out that one of our classmates is a pathological liar..." Rose answered.
Adrian only tilted his head. Juleka who was now being more observant saw his reaction. He wasn't surprised nor agitated that they were being fooled. As if he knows already.
"... Adrien?" Juleka called.
They all looked at her even though he only called the blonde boy. He answered why and looked at her curiously.
"... You knew... Didn't you?" Juleka boldly asked.
Adrian stilled. He started at the goth girl and avoided her eyes. The others saw it and slowly backed away from him.
Adrian looked at Nino, his eyes were pleading him to stay, but Nino shooked his head.
"You knew... Why didn't you say anything?! Why didn't you tell me?!" Nino whispered harshly instead of screaming to avoid making a scene.
Nino looked back to every interaction they had especially when Lila is the topic and when they are blaming Marinette for bullying the new student. Now he understands why Adrien was so quiet, why he was looking at the ravenette then soon avoided the girl's gaze. He looked at the blonde boy in front of him and thought to himself that he doesn't know this person in front of him anymore.
"Marinette knew. She knew that you knew... That's why she was looking at you every time! I thought she's just trying to plead that she's innocent but actually, she's pleading to you to say the truth!" Nino mumbled.
The others stared at Adrien for a moment before looking away, either in shame when they heard Marinette's name or in anger and don't want to do anything stupid. They all slowly left leaving a stunned Adrien and a silent Sabrina. She looked at him and stared. Soon she left as well, while she was walking she was texting Chloé of what happened and about Adrien's knowledge of the situation long ago. Chloé was furious, she thought at least the boy will have the decency to tell a friend or her but he kept it a secret and it led up to this.
Adrien's phone pinged, he pulled it out and was shocked to see what message was sent to him.
Chloé: I don't know you anymore, Adrien. You knew but said nothing to anyone, not even to me. What kind of friend even are you?
Adrien heard the bell, and reluctantly dragged himself towards his classroom, he saw Nino seating next to his desk, but when he sat down the DJ didn't acknowledge his presence like before. Adrien looked to his right and saw Chloé frowning and ignoring him as well. He thought back to Chloé's last sentence in her message.
She was right. He knew from the very beginning, but he didn't side with the victim, instead, he sided with the bully. What kind of friend even was he? He didn't know either.

Three Cups of Coffee
For Marijon Week Day 6: Internship
@marijon-week
ao3
Marinette heads to the Daily Planet with two coffees in her hand. One for her and the other for Alya. It was nice to be around someone from Paris again. Alya had been accepted for an internship at the Daily Planet, Marinette who had moved to Metropolis for college two years ago had been glad find out that Alya would be spending a month in Metropolis.
Today had been Alya’s first day, Marinette figured she’d come by after her classes to check on her. Alya had texted her that she would be on the third floor and that she’d be by her desk.
When Marinette got there, she was taken aback by the amount of activity going on. There were people walking back and forth. She stood there looking lost for a second before she heard Alya call out her name. Smiling in relief, Marinette walked towards Alya. “Thank you so much, girl,” Alya says, taking the coffee from Marinette and having it in one go.
Marinette chuckled, “hectic first day?” she asks.
“You have no idea. Jon says it’s not usually this bad.”
“Who’s Jon?”
“He’s the intern I’m going to work with during my time here. It’s not his first time interning here apparently. His desk is the one opposite mine.”
Just then a black-haired boy with glasses walks up to Alya, “hey, did you finish the article Perry asked for?”
“Yup. Just gimme a minute, I'll send it to him.”
She holds out her hand to the other boy, “hi, I’m Marinette. I’m Alya’s friend.”
He takes her hand, “Jon. Nice to meet you.”
“Done,” Alya announces, turning to face the two of them. Marinette’s still holding Jon’s hand, quickly letting go before Alya can get any ideas, she asks Alya when she plans on returning home. Judging from the gleam in Alya’s eyes she probably already has ideas.
.oOo.
Marinette settles into her new routine soon. Jon's right, it's not usually that busy. For the rest of the week when Marinette visits, the office is fairly calm.
Alya's rarely ever there when Marinette comes in. Marinette knows she's doing it on purpose but Marinette finds that she doesn't particularly mind.
Jon's fun to spend time with. He's sweet and there's something about him that makes Marinette want to get to know him.
They spend the five to ten minutes Alya vanishes, talking. Marinette isn't sure whether or not he's aware of what Alya's doing and he doesn't mind or if he's just ridiculously oblivious.
.oOo.
By the end of the second week Marinette starts bringing three coffees. One for her, one for Alya and one for Jon.
Marinette's sure at this point that Jon knows what Alya's doing and just doesn't mind. She enjoys spending time with him, and Alya manages to increase the amount of time she spends away from her desk when Marinette's there, daily.
At the end of the week Marinette has Jon's number. She ignores Alya's teasing comments as the two of them continue to text through the weekend.
.oOo.
Two weeks after meeting Marinette, his mom brings her up, asks him about the girl who visits him in the evenings on weekdays. Jon blushes and mutters that she comes to see Alya who's her friend.
Just then his phone pings with a notification. A text from Marinette. He smiles.
"That's her, isn't it?"
He looks up at his mom shocked, "how did you know?"
She smiles at him and ruffles his hair, "you look a remarkable amount like your father, Jon."
.oOo.
Lois Lane was not a force that could be stopped. She hadn't been awarded pulitzers for no reason.
Jon knew this. She was his mother after all.
She speaks to Alya the very next day. She brings up the topic of Marinette again during dinner that night.
It's clearly the first time his dad has heard of her. He knows Alya, of course but has never seen or met Marinette.
He watches as dad looks at mom fondly as she proceeds to tell him all about Marinette.
.oOo.
The second last week of the internship, Marinette meets his mom. He learns that Marinette's the god daughter of one of Paris' famous reporters. Nadja Shamack. A vaguely familiar sounding name but Jon has never met her.
Alya joins his mom in teasing him about Marinette. Tells him that everyone likes Marinette and that no one other than Marinette herself would be surprised to know that there was one more person in the world with a crush on Marinette.
Alya doesn't even bother to show up when Marinette comes every evening, now. Marinette and him spend about fifteen to twenty minutes talking before she has to leave. Each time as she leaves she xalls out to Alya to let her know that her coffee's getting cold.
Alya just grins sheepishly and continues her work.
.oOo.
It's the last week of his internship when Alya mentions being excited to return to Paris and see her family and boyfriend again, that Jon realises he doesn't know if he's going to see Marinette again after this week.
He spends most of the afternoon pondering over it. His dad notices and asks him what's wrong. After listening to Jon, he says, "Make plans to meet, you have her number and you already spend a lot of time texting each other."
Thanking his dad he returns to his desk, determined to bring it up Marinette when she comes in the evening.
.oOo.
The week Alya's internship at the Daily Planet ends, Marinette finds herself in a state.
She already has to deal with Alya leaving, and along with that there's the fact she's not sure if she and Jon are going to remain friends (even though she wishes it was something else).
She heads to the Daily Planet after her clases with the usual three cups of coffee. Handing Jon his, leaving Alya's on her desk and picking up hers she sits down at Alya's desk.
"Would you want to go out with me tomorrow?"
Marinette stares at him in shock for a second before asking, "like a date?"
Jon nods slowly.
Marinette grins at him, "I'd love to."
Jon smiles back, "tomorrow at six? There's a park nearby that looks beautiful at sunset."
"That would be wonderful," she says.
And as Marinette leaves she's sure she can hear Alya saying, "finally."

Do we actually know Nadja doesn't pay Marinette for babysitting? Like yes it's not seen on screen but couldn't she have done it off screen. I mean we don't see Jagged pay Marinette for the album cover.
Are you guys tired of hearing me talk about this yet?
Until we see evidence that she does, I don’t believe it. No character gets to act the way Nadja does while getting the oh-so-coveted “benefit of a doubt” from me.
- Nadja comes early for the cake in “Timebreaker” when that is not only dumb but also inconsiderate. Even in “Prime Queen,” she’s running late when she dumps Manon off with Marinette when this is her last chance at showtime apparently. Both of these things also negatively impact Marinette, so I’d presume any other action she could do follows the same exact formula.
- She’s apparently friends with Sabine (for some ungodly reason) so Marinette could very well feel bad about being paid and would easily fold to Nadja if Nadja wanted to skimp “once or twice” because she’s a pushover who “can’t say no.”
- I also must add to the above two reasons (Nadja being early in “Timebreaker” and Sabine being friends with her) that she doesn’t even have Marinette’s phone number despite having Marinette babysit before. In “Timebreaker,” this means that she calls Tom and Sabine on their anniversary (which apparently Nadja doesn’t even know about since she points out the bakery being closed like this is some strange thing; plus, if she already knew, it would’ve been more considerate to just call Marinette) to bother them about her first world problems concerning her cake not being presented to her earlier than she asked for it. This also implies that, when Nadja needs Marinette to babysit, she either shows up unannounced to ask (which puts Marinette on the spot) or calls her parents to ask Marinette for her (which is lowkey manipulative since it means Marinette would have to say “no” to her parents about her babysitting their friend’s daughter; even if her parents pass the phone off to her, they could still be there/nearby to hear the conversation).
- Nadja has no problem exploiting teenagers for her own personal gain (hi, “Prime Queen”).
- With Jagged, he’s requested Marinette’s services once for an album cover (which she got on the news for, so say whatever you want about being paid in Exposure™️, that’s a huge deal; also, moot point, but it’s not Jagged’s job to ensure that Marinette’s paid as he’s not the guy behind finances) and then again for a poster (that we did not see the process of; didn’t see him asking for it nor did we see her handing it over to him). With Nadja, she’s been shown repeatedly dropping Manon off with Marinette and also picking Manon up. If it was just once, I could say that, okay, sure, maybe let it slide, but not when Marinette has watched Manon this many times without a single line about, “hey, at least I’m getting paid!” Marinette gets something for working for Jagged, in addition to being a huge fan of his. All she gets from Nadja is a headache and wasted time.
- The benefit of having a friend’s kid babysit one’s gremlins? Cheap labor, plain and simple. I’ve seen how this show works, I’ve seen the way Marinette’s treated, and I’ve seen this trope of “lol character suffers and gets nothing in return because life sucks.” Nadja drops her kid off with Marinette because it’s convenient and cheaper than a babysitter, otherwise she would either have a babysitter ready at all times or use the, “sorry, my babysitter had to quit on me today because [reason],” every single time she leaves Manon with Marinette.
- Smaller thing, but listen to Nadja’s excuse for why Manon can’t take the Ladybug plush in “The Puppeteer.” Her excuse is essentially that Manon already has so many toys at home and she wouldn’t even know where to put it. Either she’s weakly trying to make an excuse to Manon so Manon backs off (instead of being firm and telling Manon to get over herself), or she’s serious and is basically openly admitting to letting Manon be spoiled rotten. I’ve seen this far too many times: the parent who spends endlessly on their kid and then throws their hands up like gee why is my kid such a spoiled brat?
Point being, when Nadja gets it together and becomes a half-decent person, I’ll give her the benefit of a doubt and say that maybe she pays Marinette.
For now though, nah, there’s just doubt, and I’d bet that her earrings are as cheap as she is.
#((Huh. Been a while since this has been brought up.))#category: salt#character: Nadja Chamack#other: ask and answer#((Jagged is LIKABLE and showers Marinette with praise. That's the difference.))#((I would BELIEVE that he pays Marinette even if it hasn't been shown on-screen yet.))#((If a character constantly makes terrible decisions or is just a bad person in general))#((then probability dictates that they are likely to make terrible decision and still be a bad person in the future.))

Champion
Based on @lenoreofraven‘s ask response
Ladybug groaned as Rena and Carapace hit the side of a building. Roi Singe, Pegase and Viperion were all nursing similar wounds. Bunnix was clutching her arm and Chat had gone to recharge and bring Queen Bee out of retirement. Ryuuko landed beside Ladybug.
“Any ideas on where the Akuma is?” Ryuuko asked, noticing the stressed look on Ladybug’s face.
“No, and I hope Chat is fast, because I doubt that we can hold on for much longer.” Said Ladybug, rubbing her face, “I know you and Chloe don’t see eye-to-eye, but we are literally pulling as many assets as we can.”
“You were off by two letters.” Said Kagami, frowning, “Do you think it might be in their helmet?”
“Which one?” Came the sarcastic response.
Ladybug could feel her headache getting worse, a couple of thuds behind her and Empress allowed Ladybug to know Chat and Queen Bee had arrived.
“So, what did I miss?” Queen Bee asked, as the Akuma took a swipe at Chat.
“Akuma showed up, we showed up, wiped the floor with us for a bit, Mayura showed up, Mayura left, Senti-monster appeared, Chat went to get you, I have a migraine and it’s not even lunch.” Said Ladybug, unaware of how the spots on the back of her hands started glowing.
“Akuma vanished.” Said Chat, as the Akuma disappeared.
Ladybug snapped.
“OH, FOR FUCKS SAKE!” Ladybug yelled, “I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! WE OUT NUMBER THEM AND SOMEHOW WE’RE LOSING!”
Ladybug didn’t see the looks of fear and horror on her teammates faces, or the camera that was recording her live, or the Akuma, who’d hidden underground, wet themselves in fear. She also didn’t see one of the spots on her suit fly off and into the city.
Nadja could only blink as The Heroes of Paris slowly picked themselves up, as their Leader put the fear of god into everyone in a three-mile radius of her. Ladybug then pitched forwards, being caught by Chat Noir.
“And this, Ladies and Gentlemen,” Said Nadja’s co-host, “is why sleep is important.”
There was a nervous chuckle, as the camera caught Ladybug coming too, Ladybug’s head shot up with a light blue mask around it.
“What the hell?” Said Ladybug, as the thoughts of another filled her head.
“I could ask you the same.” Came a voice from the other end, “I wasn’t expecting any visitors.”
“Sorry, I wasn’t intending on intruding.” Said Ladybug, as her teammates watched her exchange with slight concern.
“It’s fine.” Said the person, “Is everything alright?”
“Akuma attack, this one is a bit more trouble than we first thought.” Said Ladybug, her mind then freezing, “Wait, guy did I make an Akuma?”
“Yeah,” Said Bunnix, “Could’ve used it earlier actually.”
“Do you need some help?” Asked the voice.
“Yeah,” Said Ladybug, the blue mask was shaped like the shell of a Ladybug, it glowed, “I’m sorry to bother you with this, but would you be willing to help. I mean, it’s perfectly fine if you don’t, I’ve never actually given people powers before and-”
“Paris is my home, despite my situation,” Said the Voice, “The Akuma is fire themed right?”
“Yeah, a Fire Chief got angry because no one listened to his safety drills.” Said Ladybug, thinking on the Akuma.
“So, grant powers that will counteract or help counteract his.” Said the Voice.
Ladybug thought on the powers that would counteract fire, before smiling.
“Alright, I believe having power over foam, water and CO2 would work best,” Said Ladybug, “Would you like to choose your name, or shall I give you one?”
“I think you should come up with that one.” Said the Voice, a humorous tilt to it.
“Alright, Extinguisher.” Said Ladybug, before the Akuma reappeared.
“I think I know where to find you.” Said Extinguisher, as Ladybug and the rest of the team turned back to the Akuma.
Ladybug and her team jumped into action, Pegase opening a portal behind the Akuma, allowing a jet of foam cover them up to their neck.
“Amazing how simple things are when you have the right tools.” Said Ladybug, walking up to the Akuma, grabbing the badge on his jacket and passing it off to Chat.
Extinguisher waited for Chat to Destroy the Akumatized object and Ladybug to Purify the Akuma before handing over a slip of paper to Ladybug, allowing her to remove her spot from it. Ladybug walked away and picked up the Lucky Charm, a bucket, and threw it into the air, casting the cure.
“I think we should head home.” Said Ladybug, turning back to the man that was Extinguisher, “Do you need a lift?”
The man shook his head, “No, I think I make my way back to my doorway from here.”
Ladybug froze, “I’m sorry, but what do you mean by that?”
“I’m homeless.” Said the man, “There’s a reason I was so ready to help, since I’m going to be sleeping out here tonight.”
The man started walking away, a slight limp in his step. Everyone slowly turned and looked at Chloe, who looked at the others.
“What’s your name?” Chloe yelled, making the man stop.
“Phil Marks.” Said the man, before he started walking away again.
Chloe jogged after him, “What job did you have before you were homeless?”
“I was a safeguarding officer at a school, before it was shut down.” Said Phil, a slight wince.
“I think my school is looking for a safeguarding officer.” Said Chloe, making Phil stop, “I’m sure they’d be more than willing to help you get back on your feet.”
Phil turned and faced Chloe, “What’s the schools name?”
“College Francis Dupont.” Said Chloe, making Phil laugh.
“I doubt they’d accept my application.” Said Phil, “Considering the Paedophile ring that was busted at my last workplace.”
Chat’s eyes lit up, “That’s who you are, you’re the guy that tipped the police off.”
“I suppose.” Said Phil, as a small dog ran up to him, “Hey Chester, let’s get you some grub, eh?”
Chloe was quiet, before she cancelled her transformation and pulled her phone out of her pocket. The team slowly dispersed, Ladybug being the last one to leave. The last Ladybug saw of the two, Chloe was having a conversation with someone on her phone and Phil was fishing change out of his pocket to get Chester some food.

Marinette yawned as she took her seat next to Alya, with her best friend pushing a cup of coffee towards her. Marinette took the cup in her hands, before Ms. Bustier walked into the class, with a tearful Lila behind her.
“This is going to be good.” Marinette sarcastically muttered, before she started to drink her coffee.
“Good morning, Class.” Said Ms. Bustier, tersely, “Lila has something she has to share with us.”
The class focused on Lila, who looked like she didn’t want to be there.
“I-I’ve been lying.” Said Lila, making Marinette spit her coffee out.
“The new safeguarding officer contacted Lila’s parents,” Said Ms. Bustier, stiffly, “and apparently Lila had been telling them the school had been closed.”
“Ouch.” Said Marinette, before looking down at her coffee, “I need a bigger cup.”
The rest of Marinette’s day was filled with her Classmate apologising to her and how they were going to make it up to her.
A week later, Marinette and a couple other Class Representatives were called to the Safeguarding office. They had been trying to get a trip to the catacombs of Paris, followed by a tour of Notre Dame. Marinette knocked on the office door and a familiar voice said come in.
Marinette opened the door and found Phil Marks shuffling through a wad of papers, while Chester lay at his feet.
“Ah, Ms. Dupain-Cheng,” Said Mr. Marks, “I assume you’re here about the Notre Dame trip.”
Marinette’s heart swelled, now knowing that her team helped someone outside of being Akumatised.

Pairing: Marinette/Ladybug | Adrien/Chat Noir Words: 3950 Summary: Ladybug knew this was necessary. She was the Guardian. He had the Cat Miraculous. And of course, after a week of no akumas, Mr Perfect Timing's back at it again. What doth the author hast in store for thee?
---
Chapter Ten
The boings of Alya and Nino playing Super Penguino only somewhat muffled the soft and mellow strums of Luka’s guitar. It was a nice melody, Adrien wouldn’t deny. He’d thought the same thing a week ago, when they’d all sat by the Seine with André’s ice cream in hand.
But back then, he hadn’t known Luka had composed it just for Marinette. That it was supposedly her song.
How could he have known?
It was soft, but not nearly sweet enough. And laidback, rather than lively. And while it was pleasant, it lacked the passion befitting of his friend.
Her passion for sewing.
Her passion for helping others.
Her passion for standing up for what she believed in.
Adrien watched as she drew out a breath from her freckle-dusted nose, as her pink lips curved into an easy smile, as her bluebell eyes fluttered shut. Her elbow brushed his own as she tipped her head against Luka’s shoulder.
He felt pressure on his hand—a reminder that he still held Kagami’s. His eyes met hers, and the question that clouded her gaze was enough to spark surprise in his own. Someone had squeezed the other’s hand, but that someone hadn’t been her—
A gasp stole his attention. “Dudes!” Nino’s left hand clutched half of Alya’s iPad, while his right jabbed toward the TV. “Check out the news!”
Adrien did just that.
And sucked in a breath at the sight he beheld.
The concerned face of Nadja Chamack filled the screen. Live footage appeared of an offensively coloured tower that soared into the sky, its abstract surface jarring against the bygone architecture of the buildings around it.
Adrien knew the area. At least five minutes away by baton.
Alya lunged at the coffee table. “Unmute!” she screamed, snatching up the remote with a crazed look in her eye. One fierce jab of her finger—
“—in Montparnasse, where a new villain is turning Paris into an abstract nightmare!”
The screen flicked to a series of clips. Fleeing Parisians. Multicoloured beams. Anything they touched – people, buildings, buses, pigeons – transformed into an eye-achingly colourful and contorted version of its former self.
“As always, authorities advise all Parisians to stay indoors until Ladybug and Chat—”
Zap!
Colour swarmed across Nadja’s body. Her lips swelled. Her nose went freakishly thin. Her left eye bulged and climbed a good three inches up her face. And although her body was off screen, Adrien had a sneaking suspicion it looked just as ill-proportioned. With a gasp, she stumbled out of frame.
A figure dropped from the sky, his body as obnoxiously bright as the tower that loomed behind him. He skulked toward the screen, a sneer scrunching the enormous, triangular nostrils on his severely misshapen face. “I am Putricasso!” The footage faltered at the hands of an unseen cameraman. “And soon, all of Paris will be as breath-taking as Picasso’s fine creations!”
With narrow eyes, Putricasso aimed an oversized paint brush at the screen.
The TV went static.
Adrien’s knee bobbed. Their first akuma in a week. Of course, it had to happen mid-group gathering. His eyes zipped around the apartment. He needed an excuse—
Marinette flew to her feet. “Actually—” A wince warped her face as she reeled back onto the sofa, hunched forward with her hand around her ankle. “I’ve – uh – changed my mind.” She stood again, this time slowly and with greater success. “I should definitely see a doctor. Just in case.”
He sprung up beside her. “I’ll take you!”
“NO!”
By the sheer desperation in her voice, one might’ve thought he was dragging her into danger right along with him.
“I mean YES!” She slapped her hands together. “Take me now!” Her eyes flew wide. “To the doctors! Take me now to the doctors. Please.” He didn’t miss her limp as she looked between Nino, Kagami and Luka, an apologetic smile at the ready. Her eyes lingered on Luka especially.
Alya was too busy frantically tapping her phone screen to pay them all any mind.
“Sorry I couldn’t stay longer, guys.” Marinette’s fingers drummed against her pink, flowery clutch. “Injury aside, it’s been fun!” She was already hobbling toward the front door.
Adrien scooped his grey messenger bag off the floor, threw it over one shoulder, and turned to Kagami. He was met by a question:
“Can I come along?”
His shoulders shot to his ears. “Err – No need, Kagami! I’ll, uh, be quick.”
Her gaze swerved to Marinette, then back to him. “Okay.”
“Hey, Marinette?” Luka’s voice drew Adrien’s focus. “Are we still on for tomorrow?” The musician smiled at her from the sofa, guitar propped in his lap.
She was halfway to the exit, but stopped to beam at him all the same. “Of course! No way am I letting my clumsiness ruin our movie date.” For the second time today, she winked at Luka.
Adrien’s smile felt forced.
Until her attention turned to him.
“Ready, Adrien?”
He nodded and, after a brief farewell to his friends, rushed to her side. “Let’s go.”
As she continued to limp toward the exit, he identified a glaring flaw in his escape plan. He needed time to take her to the doctor’s. And time was something he had none of right now.
…
…
…
Crap.
Adrien could think of several reasons as to why he couldn’t ditch her.
Reason one? It’d be a terrible thing to do.
Reason two? It’d be awfully suspicious after offering to take her in the first place.
Reason three? She really did need his help.
But damn it, so did Ladybug. And all of Paris for that matter. Maybe he could speed things up somehow—
“Hold the fort, Nino!” Alya, who Adrien was sure had been on the sofa just a second ago, flashed by them in a blur of orange and blue. “Your girl’s gotta bounce!”
“Babe?!” Nino sputtered from his seat. “You’ve – You’ve got guests!”
Alya swung the front door aside, revealing a public stairwell of wooden steps and copper railing. “Montparnasse is, like, a twenty-minute metro away. If I jet now, I might make the end of the battle!” She threw Marinette a one-handed finger gun. “Rest that foot up, girl!” And with that, she was off.
Marinette frowned at the front door, still ajar. “I swear she has no sense of self preservation.”
“With Ladybug protecting Paris, at least we know she’s in safe hands.”
She met his smile with one of her own. “You mean Ladybug and Chat Noir.”
His lips parted, a merry “thank you” at the ready, until he realised that’d be a pretty odd response from Adrien Agreste. “You’re right,” he said instead, following her through the front door. “I’ll be back soon, everyone!” (He hoped.)
While he clicked the door shut behind him, Marinette limped up to the first set of steps in their way. With her fingers around the handrail, she put her right foot forward, gauging her weight on step number one as though testing the temperature of a swimming pool.
Hold up.
Did she plan to scale these stairs on her own?
He stepped forward. “If you’d like, I can—”
“No.” Her answer was short, but not impolite. More like she was on a mission. “I’ve got this.”
“You sure?”
The front of her ballerina flat touched the first step. Seeming satisfied with the level of pain, she ventured forward.
“Yeah, I’m—”
Her ankle buckled.
He lunged after her.
One hand clutched the curve of her waist.
The other gripped her shoulder.
“—totally in need of a little assistance.”
A little giggle followed her words and he couldn’t help but smile. He levelled her onto her feet. “Say no more.” Knees bent, he eased one hand across her back, while his other reached down to loop behind her legs.
A thought made him pop back to full height.
Was it socially acceptable to carry her bridal-style?
“Err – With your permission?”
The question hung in the air. And was it a trick of the light? Or were her cheeks a little rosier than usual? Maybe he needed an ice breaker. The kind of comment she’d expect from Chat Noir. He’d carried her bridal style on more than one occasion.
“No altars, I promise.”
“I – I – Uh—”
Mistakes were made.
Her eyes darted every which way. None of those ways crossed paths with his own. And— Oh no! Her cheeks were definitely rosy now. Had he just made her more uncomfortable?
“Sure,” she squeaked, much like the sound that had inspired the nickname ‘Marimouse’ last night. “Fine. Totally fine. Like, one hundred percent A-OK.” She placed her right hand across the nape of his neck, emphasising her words.
With a quiet sigh of relief, Adrien lifted her from the stairs into his arms, and her left hand slid behind his neck to join her right. He hadn’t started out his day expecting to sweep a cute girl off her feet, but here he was. That joke rode the tip of his tongue, barely withheld, because jeez, his last attempt at ice breaking had gone just splendidly.
As he began their descent down the stairs, Marinette spoke up again. “Sorry if I’m heavy...”
He almost laughed.
That hadn’t even crossed his mind.
His thoughts drifted a day into the past, to the puns they’d cracked in her kitchen. “Must’ve been the cheesecake. I’d batter be extra careful while carrying you down these stairs!”
Eager for her reaction, his eyes flicked from the steps to her face. She didn’t disappoint.
No, she rolled her eyes.
He smirked in record time.
“I swear you’re like a walking punpedia.”
“You’re meant to egg me on, Marinette. Have I tarte you nothing?”
Banana puns. Baking puns. He was on a roll today. Punning against an artsy villain would be a piece of cake.
“Gosh, I pun with you once and suddenly, we’re pun buddies.”
Had his hands not been preoccupied, Adrien would’ve placed one to his heart. “Why, I hope you’re not planning to dessert me?” This time, she groaned, but he didn’t miss the slight upward tilt of her lips. “Because that would mousse definitely make me sad.”
With a shake of her head, she finally cracked a smile. Briefly, he wished he didn’t have to watch where he was going, so he could freely enjoy the fruits of his labours.
A few seconds ticked by, the thumps of his shoes against wood filling the silence. He reached a stair landing, strode by two doors, then continued down another set of steps.
Marinette sighed. “I feel kinda bad about leaving early.”
Adrien’s brows curled. If either of them should feel bad right now, it was him. He’d invited Kagami, after all, and here he was leaving her despite knowing she wasn’t at ease around acquaintances.
“Don’t feel bad, Marinette. Your health comes first. Any one of our friends would say the same.”
She was silent.
But one glance at her face revealed lips pursed by thought.
“Is this about leaving Luka?”
From the corner of his eye, Marinette nodded. “I just feel so lame for ditching him.”
Adrien shrugged. Well, as much as he could with her in his arms. “I’m sure he understands. I know I would if I was in his shoes.”
A quiet pause.
“You’re right.”
Adrien didn’t need to peel his eyes from the steps to know she was smiling. “So, uhh”—he cleared his throat—“did he really compose that song just for you?”
Another nod on her end.
“That’s pretty cool.” Even if it didn’t suit her as well as it could’ve. “Maybe I should compose a song for you,” he thought aloud, already sifting through piano pieces he knew for inspiration. Something bright. Strong. Resilient. Joyful! Playing it needed to make him as happy as being around her did.
“I, um… I should probably text my parents.” Her left hand dropped from his neck to pull a smart phone from the front pocket of her pants. “I’m sure they’ll be happy to take me to the doctors, so you don’t have to.”
“Oh. Well, I…” It sure made transforming easier, but he still had to ask, “If that’s not too much trouble?”
With a shake of her head, Marinette held her phone near his shoulder. “‘Course not.” It clicked as she typed. “And this way you don’t have to leave everyone.”
Little did she know.
While Marinette tucked away her phone, he scaled the last of the steps and approached a wooden door, its surface scuffed from years of use. “Could you—”
Sure enough, she was already reaching for the brass knob.
They exchanged a smile as he planted his back to the door and reversed his way into an open-air corridor. “Nice work, team.”
That got a giggle out of her.
With Marinette still in his arms, Adrien strode by rows of beige mailboxes, a letter half hanging from one of the slots. She extended a hand and pushed it the rest of the way in.
“In case it’s something important.”
“Very typical of you,” he said with a wink.
Her eyes fell to her lap, but not before she smiled.
As they approached an iron gate, he recalled her earlier advice that it was never actually locked, and coaxed it open with his back. The street was fairly quiet. A few pigeons. A couple of motoring cars. And an old lady walking her sausage dog.
He glanced back at the entrance corridor beyond the iron gate. It’d make a good transformation spot. Well, as long as Marinette didn’t see him race inside, only for Chat Noir to leave a second later.
With that in mind, Adrien rounded a nearby corner to be met by an equally quiet street. Bending his knees, he set her down on the sidewalk and placed his hands on her shoulders, ready to catch her at a moment’s notice. “You okay to stand, Marinette?”
Her answer, as it turned out, was to press her petite fingers flush against his chest.
A second later, he froze as she slapped her hands to her face. “Sorry!” She peeked up at him from through her fingers. “I – Uh – The designer in me! She felt bad for creasing your dress shirt!”
That made sense.
Adrien placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Marinette. I’m a fashion model, remember? Unannounced crease correcting comes with the territory.” He chuckled. “Besides, I prefer you doing it as opposed to some stranger.” After two light pats on her shoulder, his hand returned to his side, and his fingers drummed against his thighs. “So, err…” As much as he needed to scat, leaving her alone felt a little impolite. “I can keep you company until your parents get here?”
Marinette toyed with the hem of her cardigan. “That’s, uh, awfully nice of you, Adrien, but there’s really no need.” She tapped her fingers together as she peered up at him. “I – I mean, not that I don’t want your company. Your company’s great. You just… umm… probably wanna get back to everyone else, right?”
Well, not exactly.
He slipped a hand behind his neck. “Are you sure, Marinette?”
“Adrien.” The boldness of her tone alone made him still. “Gateau of here.”
Did…
Did she just…
The smile that swept across her lips was answer enough. Man, she was awesome!
“How can I say dough to that?” With a broad grin, he took two steps back the way they came. “Take it easy on that ankle, okay?”
“Uh – Yeah! Will do.”
“And I guess I’ll… see you Monday?”
“Yup. Monday! That’s when you’ll next be seeing me.”
“Great. See you then!”
With a two-fingered salute, he ducked around the corner and backtracked through the gate, rows of mailboxes affixed to the wall on his right.
Plagg zipped out of his messenger bag. “Finally!” By the way he snickered, he wasn’t really bothered. “Parting with your girlfriend is such sweet sorrow, hmm?”
Nope. Definitely not bothered.
“You said the same thing yesterday, Plagg.” He fiddled with the cuff of his dress shirt. “You know she’s just a friend.”
His kwami floated closer. “Don’t you mean a pun buddy?”
Adrien gave a wry smile. “Speaking of which”—he launched out his fist—“Plagg, claws out!”
In a flash of blinding green, Chat Noir stood where Adrien Agreste once had. He approached the gate, scanned the street for any onlookers, then raced out onto the sidewalk.
One tap of his baton launched him heavenward—and with a highly essential flip, he dropped to a nearby rooftop. In the distant cityscape, Montparnasse Tower stood like a sky-high circus.
“Good thing I’m wearing my clown costume.” He tapped the glowing paw on his staff, revealing its screen. “No messages from M’Lady? Well colour me shocked.”
A few taps brought up the latest akuma update. No heroes on the scene yet. He glanced at his Bugabeacon. By the looks of it, she hadn’t transformed yet. Seemed he wasn’t the only one running fashionably late.
Chat gripped his staff tighter.
This was their first battle since his reveal.
Ladybug’s first battle with Adri—
No.
Her second battle with Adrien.
And an agonising reminder of his desire to prove himself.
Sure, Chat Noir had done so for over a year, but he wasn’t just Chat Noir anymore. No, he was also Adrien Agreste, who’d failed to save her as Aspik for three months straight. Adrien Agreste, whose nightmares had been haunted by Desperada ever since. Adrien Agreste, who longed for redemption.
And today was his chance.
---
Marinette tottered into a nearby alleyway and propped her back against a weather-worn wall. Two painkillers, a dollop of anti-inflammatory cream and twenty minutes of ice-pack time, yet somehow her ankle throbbed more now than it had right after her fall.
Tikki whizzed out of her pink clutch, concern swimming in her eyes.
“Our first akuma in a week and I’ll be spending it stumbling through Paris.” Marinette pushed off the wall to test out the injury. A little weight was wince-worthy, but bearable. Anything more active was another story. “Will my transformation do anything to ease the pain?”
Her kwami shook her head. “I’m sorry, Marinette! Injuries you get while de-transformed are out of my control. You’ll just have to be extra careful.”
So it looked like she’d have to keep anything too jarring to a minimum. Well, try to. Running and jumping were kind of necessary when it came to yoyo swinging and dodging dangerous projectiles.
“I’ll have to fight through the pain.” She shifted her weight to her good ankle. “At least it’s just a sprain. Or there’s no way I’d be standing.”
Five storeys up, a blur of black leapt over the alley.
Tikki frowned. “What about Chat Noir?”
A touch of dread rematerialized, gripping her chest as it had upstairs. She’d thought – well, maybe freaked out – about that on the way down. Though observing Adrien’s own ditch attempt had been a welcome distraction. And a fascinating one at that.
“He saw me walking fine during patrol last night.” She cupped her chin. “It’ll be hard to come up with a believable excuse, but...”
“I’m sure you’ll think of something.”
Marinette nodded. “I have to.” Purpose hardened her eyes. “Tikki, spots on!”
Latex washed up her body in a glow of pale pink. Immediately, Ladybug reassessed her ankle, hoping for a miracle.
Alas, Lady Luck couldn’t solve everything.
She flicked up the screen of her yoyo. According to her Kitty Tracker, Chat Noir was already five blocks ahead of her. “He’s really hightailing it over there,” she thought aloud, and hurled her yoyo at the rim of the roof above. One tug sent her skyward.
Her toes touched down.
Her ankle caved.
Her knees slammed against the roof.
Ladybug groaned. “Focus!” The second time in a week she’d said that very thing. She’d let down her friends, her master, all of Paris. She refused to be that useless today.
Never again.
Ladybug hoisted herself to her feet and stared out at the Parisian skyline. Montparnasse Tower reached for the clouds like a multicoloured beacon. It’d already been about ten minutes since that footage had aired. She needed to get there fast.
But how could she do that with a busted ankle?
The Horse Miraculous wasn’t an option. The Miracle Box was stowed away in Master Fu’s old phonograph, atop the chest that housed Adrien’s many birthday gifts. Getting home would take almost as long as stumbling to Montparnasse.
A lightbulb went off in her head.
What if she embraced her inner Spider-Man? Swing more. Land less. Rest her ankle on the way there. Yeah, that could work. It’d be better than pushing her ankle before she’d even engaged Putricasso.
With her mind made up, she hurled her yoyo at a distant chimney. And as she spideyed her way over to Montparnasse, a month-old memory replayed in her mind.
The sinking sun set the sky ablaze, splashing the Arc de Triomphe with its golden glow. Her legs swayed off the ledge of the aged monument in time with Chat Noir’s, while cars hummed underfoot.
“Hey, LB?” He grinned at her, the tiny straw of a juice box brushing his lips. “Has it ever occurred to you that you’re like a female Spider-Man?”
“Y’know, my friends were discussing that very thing this week.”
“Ha! Mine too.” He took a hearty sip. “It makes sense, right? You’re both bug-themed. You wear lots of red. You swing around the city.”
“So if my comic counterpart’s Spider-Man, who’s yours?”
Chat puffed out his chest. “I am Batman,” he rasped, his voice an octave lower.
She snorted. “I was thinking more along the lines of Cat Woman.”
With a pout, he passed the juice box to her awaiting hand. “Why not Black Panther?”
“Who?”
“Wow, M’Lady!” He slapped a dramatic paw to his heart. “That hurts my very soul!”
Through a smile, Ladybug took a small sip of juice. “Well,” she eventually said, “I think Chat Noir’s a much cooler superhero anyway.”
The smile he flashed her could’ve powered all of Europe.
Then he opened his mouth.
“Does this mean I can’t call you Spider-Woman?”
Ladybug couldn’t help but laugh as she soared through the autumn air. She considered telling him their silly talk had come in handy. Maybe she’d even let him call her Paris’ friendly neighbourhood ladybug. He’d get a kick out of that for sure.
Up ahead, Montparnasse Tower was a fast-approaching eyesore—and a reminder that she still needed a reason for her injury. One scan of the area drew her attention to an ice rink. A very familiar ice rink. An excuse bloomed in her brain. A skating accident. One she’d suffered from first thing this morning. It wasn’t her finest cover-up, but her choices were gut-churningly limited. If ever there was a day for her luck to shine through, today was it.
With each street she swung through, the beige brickwork and timeworn buildings of Paris evolved into a mess of colourful shapes. Rooms stuck out at odd angles, far from structurally sound. Flying pigeons defied the laws of aerodynamics, their wings branching from their bodies like two featherless triangles. And Parisians panicked in the streets, their faces distorted and their bodies a jumbled state of jagged shapes. If a unicorn caught a stomach bug, she imagined the aftermath would look a lot like this.
A multicoloured beam sliced through the sky—just past Montparnasse Cemetery, where an expanse of tombstones dotted the land. More beams burst from between a distant street and with narrowed eyes, she veered toward them.

What do you think would be if Agreste family was Childless (read: What if Adrien don't exist)?
I can’t get into too much detail because no Adrien means no Chat Noir and that’s dicey-er territory. Still, I’ll give it a go.
Obvious stuff first:
- Gabriel wouldn’t have as many on-screen moments of “sympathy” since no Adrien hug and no scene with them watching Emilie’s starring role together.
- We’re going to presume that there’s a new cat who is at least competent enough to follow Ladybug’s orders and get the job done.
- No Adrien means no book which means no potions at the very least; we will however presume that Marinette gets a Lucky Charm in “Sapotis” that leads her to Fu, even if the Lucky Charm confuses her so she has to ask Tikki about it (which then leads to Tikki taking her to Fu), so temporary heroes will still be a thing (otherwise this’ll be boring with me shrugging at a bunch of temporary holder episodes).
Anyway, episodes that would be significantly different without Adrien are bolded, episodes that are uncertain (i.e: ones that involve potions) are marked with a *, and episodes that are bolded and italicized outright/possibly would not happen at all:
Season 1
Stormy Weather (no visit to the park, possibly no Alya since Alya’s purpose in coming was to tell Marinette about Adrien; if Alya does show up, possibly just Marinette and Alya being gay moms to Manon)
Evillustrator
Lady Wifi
Princess Fragrance (new cat possibly doesn’t get hit by Princess Fragrance’s perfume, as it was Chat’s idea to open the windows in the first place, which let Princess Fragrance spray her perfume in)
Dark Cupid (new cat possibly not getting shot since they wouldn’t be distracted by confessing to Ladybug)
Mr. Pigeon (new cat likely not allergic to feathers; Marinette would probably still compete in the hat contest though)
Pixelator (new cat may not get shot by Pixelator as Adrien got shot protecting Chloe which... who would protect Chloe?)
Copycat (um... yeah)
The Bubbler (Adrien doesn’t exist, therefore no one for Nino to get akumatized over)
Simon Says
Rogercop (this one’s debatable, but Plagg might not see the bracelet from his vantage point, so he might not cause the whole incident that leads to Roger being fired)
Gamer (no Adrien means that Max and Marinette would be teaming up, so unless Max gets akumatized just out of being beaten by a girl, we’re good)
Animan (no Adrien to set up Nino’s date with Marinette, meaning Alya and Nino aren’t at the zoo, don’t get trapped in the cage, and thus don’t get together)
Darkblade (this one wouldn’t really be different exactly, but this showcases Adrien’s fencing ability while he’s fighting against Darkblade as Chat; it’s not significant but more like a fun fact)
The Pharaoh
Timebreaker (new cat might protect Ladybug differently rather than taking the time to hug AND shield her; possibly no time travel back and Marinette might drop the watch herself since there’s no Adrien to grab it first, though that’s really insignificant since the watch had to be run over by Alix for it to break)
Horrificator (Inspector Jones is different so no Chloe insisting on being the other role, though Mylene would still be chased away; hm, I wonder who Inspector Jones would be if not Adrien?)
The Puppeteer (possibly no Rogercop, so it’d be a different akuma)
The Mime
Guitar Villain
Reflekta (no Adrien, so unless the photographer still puts Juleka in the middle and Chloe insists on being there, which she didn’t in the original as it was only being next to Adrien that she cared about, Juleka wouldn’t be sent to the bathroom)
Ladybug & Chat Noir (Origins - Part 1) (This one is REALLY subjective and debatable so don’t take it too seriously, but it’s possible that the new cat would’ve listened to Plagg’s full instructions and Plagg might’ve talked about Ladybug’s purification; therefore, the new cat might’ve been like, “Hey, are you supposed to purify that or--” “Oh! Right!” meaning no second Stoneheart)
Stoneheart (Origins - Part 2) (Again, only relevant if you assume that Part 1 would have the new cat reminding Ladybug of purification)
Antibug
Kung Food (no Adrien to help Marinette with Chinese; honestly I feel like this is better because the writers would probably have to have her know Chinese instead of being taught terms by a white boy)
Volpina (no Adrien, no book, no Marinette getting upset at Lila dissing Ladybug and thus - in addition to no Adrien for Lila to flirt with - no Ladybug calling Lila out unless she does it differently) (either way, no Volpina in general because there’s no fox hero for her to base herself on, so it’d just be a generic illusion maker if anything)
Season 2
The Collector (no “Volpina” means no “The Collector”)
Prime Queen (depends on whether Ladybug and the new cat are ship-tastic enough for Nadja to do a story on and if the new cat would stand up enough for Ladybug that Ladybug wouldn’t feel the need to barge out)
Glaciator (no Adrien means no disappointed Marinette means no Andre the ice cream man being upset)
Despair Bear (no Adrien to tell Chloe to start being nice means Chloe shall make no attempt to)
Troublemaker (no Adrien pictures means Marinette isn’t as panicked so Penny wouldn’t have to kick everyone out so readily)
Gigantitan (no Adrien, no Gorilla to try to akumatize, so no butterfly to akumatize August)
Riposte (Adrien is apparently Armand D'Argencourt’s best student; thus, no Adrien means that Kagami would just get into the fencing class)
Befana
Frightningale (this one is a BIIIIIG “if”; Chloe would have to care enough to want to be Ladybug without Adrien as the cat, and then Marinette would have to be peeved enough at the idea of Chloe being Ladybug to interrupt, which she technically implies in the original by saying, “Chloé playing Ladybug? No way! Not gonna happen!”)
Gorizilla (no Adrien for Gorilla to lose)
Robostus
Sapotis (again, we’re presuming that Ladybug gets a Lucky Charm that either leads her to Fu or Marinette asks Tikki about the Lucky Charm and Tikki leads her to Fu)
Dark Owl
Syren* (no aqua powers; possible zodiac usage, like Dragon for water powers)
Zombizou
Captain Hardrock (no Adrien for Marinette to get depressed over but she’d obviously still meet Luka, whether on deck or in his room)
Frozer* (no Adrien for Marinette to third wheel for alongside Luka, but Philippe’s ice rink is still in jeopardy so he’ll still be akumatized; also, no ice powers)
Style Queen (new cat very well might not be turned to glitter, meaning no need to go to Fu anyway because the bee actually wasn’t needed to beat the akuma: Plagg/the cat was)
Queen Wasp* (no bee miraculous to lose, no Queen Bee, Audrey may or may not get close to Chloe because Marinette has less reason to help)
Reverser (new cat would get reversed into something else at the very least?)
Anansi (we’re assuming that this would be an episode where Nino gets his miraculous even if he’s not dating Alya; it just wouldn’t involve Alya)
Malediktator (no Queen Bee, no video to get into a huff over)
Sandboy (new cat’s civilian and hero nightmares would be different)
Catalyst (Heroes Day - Part 1) (if Volpina doesn’t happen, Hawk Moth doesn’t have his illusion maker, but that one was more debatable so we’ll presume he gets around it enough or Volpina did happen but very differently) (the subplot about Marinette preparing sweets is likely averted; in the original, Marinette went back on admitting that she lied because of Adrien being a sad boy which made her feel guilty) (bonus that Alya can’t use any “you’re jealous because Lila hit on Adrien” excuse with Marinette because Adrien doesn’t exist)
Mayura (Heroes Day - Part 2) (no Queen Bee so no Queen Wasp, and it’s debatable if Alya and Nino would’ve been close enough to care if/when the other got hit by Dark Cupid’s arrows)
Santa Claws (no Adrien means no final straw for Santa)
Season 3
Chameleon (no Adrien means no akumatization motive for Lila; also, no Adrien means that Marinette isn’t holding back from calling out Lila’s lying and Alya still can’t use the “you’re jealous because aDriEn” excuse, so we’ll presume that Alya trusts Marinette - an insane concept, I know - and looks into Lila’s lies)
Animaestro (no Adrien, no macaron, no last straw for Astruc and Marinette likely wouldn’t even show up for the premiere)
Bakerix
Backwarder (no Adrien love letter to accidentally give to Marianne, though it’d be hilarious to see Marianne’s reaction to being given the prescription; still )
Reflekdoll (no Adrien, no Alya intrusion, no Juleka blaming Marinette for no reason)
Weredad (based on if the love square is even still a thing, this could go any number of ways, but likely wouldn’t happen in the exact same way at least; also, I doubt the new cat would be curious about Marinette being on her own damn balcony)
Silencer
Oni-Chan (no Adrien means no picture for Kagami to get salty over)
Miraculer (no Queen Bee)
Oblivio (new cat might not be lounging around and calling them and Ladybug a couple; even if this episode still did happen, obviously it’d be very different)
Desperada (no Adrien means no guitar scene and no Aspik)
Christmaster (no Adrien gifts means no lie)
Startrain (depending on who the cat is, Ladybug might have to either go it alone or teleport away from the train to get them)
Kwami Buster (if the cat is someone who doesn’t go to Marinette’s school, possibly no Ms. Mendeleiev trying to catch the kwami)
Feast
Gamer 2.0 (this would technically be the first Gamer since “Gamer” very likely didn’t happen; ambiguous how the new cat will handle stressed out Ladybug or if they’re good at games in the first place)
Stormy Weather 2 (no subplot about Marinette delivering Adrien’s homework)
Ikari Gozen (no Adrien for Marinette to worry over so no phone-peeking and no sad Kagami)
Timetagger (new cat may no Cataclysm Bunnyx’s miraculous, which is what caused Bunnyx to be trapped in the past in the first place, unable to return)
Party Crasher (no Adrien, no party)
Puppeteer 2 (no Adrien means no museum means and no DJWifi dating for them to flirt and completely abandon the child they were supposed to watch)
Chat Blanc (no Adrien crush means no gift which means no Chat Noir figuring out Ladybug’s identity)
Felix (no Adrien means no video for Felix to sabotage)
Ladybug (Lila may’ve been called out by “Chameleon,” and even if Marinette was expelled, Alya still doesn’t have the “Adrien” excuse to pull, making it look even worse for her if she refuses to see Lila as a suspect)
Heart Hunter (Battle of the Miraculous - Part 1) (no Adrien means no sad Marinette which means Ladybug would be alert enough to go de-transform first or realize that Hawk Moth is following her) (also, Audrey possibly isn’t in Paris because she was planning on leaving before Chloe and her made up)
Miracle Queen (Battle of the Miraculous - Part 2) (Queen Bee never happened)
