nothing breaks my heart more than the realisation that mike was probably one of the most kindest scout leaders the sc ever had.
#out of.#not to cry on main but ... he DESERVED NONE OF THIS#he's actively the first person to tell erwin that sending kids out to fight an expedition straight up is a reckless decision#and shouldnt be happenin#despite their earlier introduction he also had so much respect and always helped levi out ...#he doesnt push erwin to explain his theory even though he knows hes lying to him#the aot constantly has him looking out for u as a new recruit and demanding you stand back#he apologised to levi before erwin did for the day he recruited levi and his friends and i say that earnestly#he takes the time in the middle of a fight to inspire someone else who isnt himself ...#mike was always people > everything else. he had such a strong belief in seeing humanity survive#and thats why survivor mike breaks my heart. bc so little believe in his words in turn.

Captain’s girlfriend being the Mom of the survey corps
You are Levi’s girlfriend, and you LOVE taking care of these kids.
- Background story
As a kid, you grew up next to Levi and his mother’s door. Your mothers knew each other since they used to work together. You and Levi very soon became inseparable. You would always play together during daytime; you would sleep together too because neither of you wanted to leave each other. You mother died when you were four, and very soon after that a farmer came and took you in. You tried to resist because you wanted to stay with Levi but the military police intervened. You didn’t even get to say goodbye to Levi and you were gone. Levi did not understand why from one day to another, you just disappeared. He asked his mom where you were, but she had no idea too.
”Is it because she doesn’t love me anymore?” Levi wondered.
”I’m sure she loves you, don’t worry about that my angel.” Kuchel reassured him while hugging him.
On your side, the farmer told you that he was your father. Your mother had succeeded, somehow, to send him a letter telling him how she knew she was sick. As a dying wish, she asked him to come and take care of you.
”I want to go back! I have a friend there and I didn’t get to say goodbye.”
”I’m sorry but the Underground is dangerous. You’re much safer here in wall Sina.”
Since then, you lived with your father helping him with the farms. Your father’s farm helped feeding the three military branches, so it was important to work hard. At the age of eighteen, it was time for you to choose a career. Younger, you thought about joining the training corps, but you father was against it, so you continued studying and finally began training as a nurse. You worked with Doctor Yeager a lot and once your trainings were completed, you decided to join the survey corps as nurse to help. You were twenty-one when that happened.
Your first friend was Hange. They would come into the infirmary very often due to their experiments. It was the only friendship you made since you arrived - you didn’t know how to make friends but Hange was very sociable, so they introduced you to Erwin and Mike. One day, you were eating with Hange in your office and you were talking about the latest news.
”Erwin just brought in three recruits!”
”Is that even allowed?” you asked surprised.
”Apparently. They were all against it because they’re from the underground. But I’ve seen them in action, and they are amazing. Even more because they had no training. You have to see them in action, because one of them, Levi, is truly a titan slayer god.” Hange blabbered.
”Levi?” you wondered, could it be your Levi? It has been a very long time, but he was only friend when you were a kid. Was he still alive? If so, did he change? Surprisingly, you still looked a lot like when you were a kid (according to your father).
”Yeah that’s his name, and his friends are here too — Isabel and Furlan. They are probably training right now if you want to meet them.”
”Why not!”
You finished your meal and went to the training grounds.
”FLAGON! Hi!” Hange screamed.
”Hange and my favourite nurse!” Flagon smiled, ”If you are here to meet my new members, they are killing titans.”
”Y/N come, let’s find them!”
Hange took your arm and run through the trees and once you spotted them, you stopped. They were good. One of them turned their head to where you and Hange were and for a second, you two made eye contact. He froze for a second but quickly continued to kill fake titans.
”Are you okay?” Hange asked you worried. ”You look like you’ve seen a titan.”
”No, I’m good but I have to go, I just remembered how I had some paperwork to do. Hm I’ll see you later!” you explained before running away.
Once the three of them were done training, they met Hange and Flagon again.
”Who was that girl?” Levi asked abruptly.
”Why do you care?” Flagon answered.
”Just tell me.” Levi urged clenching his teeth.
”That was our nurse.” Hange responded to avoid more conflict between the two of them.
”I want her name!” Levi growled exasperated.
”It’s Y/N, why?”
Levi didn’t answer Hange and just left rapidly. Isabel and Furlan were just as confused as the two squad leaders. You lock yourself in your office, panting a little because you ran to there. Levi knew where the infirmary was so he just knocks on your office’s door. He tried to open the door when you did not answer but it was locked.
”You’re a nurse, you can’t ignore your patients!” Levi yelled. ”Open the door now! Y/N!”
You unlocked the door and opened it slowly. You were scared to look at him so you’re eyes were fixed on his shoes. He gently pushed you inside so you would both have privacy. After a minute or two of silence, Levi suddenly took you in his arms.
”I thought that you were dead,” Levi mumbled, ”when you didn’t came that day, I thought that I’d never see you again.”
”I’m sorry,” you said hugging him back, ”a man came in when my mom died and he said that he was my father and since then, he took care of me. What about you? What are doing here? How’s your mom?” you asked softly.
”Erwin took us in,” Levi revealed briefly, ”and my mom died a few days after you were gone.”
”Oh... I’m so sorry about that.” you said looking at him.
”I’m glad you’re here.”
Since that day, you two spent all your free time together. Very soon enough, you met Levi’s friends. You loved spending time with them, and everything was fine. Until that expedition, where both Furlan and Isabel died. You tried your best to be there for Levi but it was difficult between all the amount of work you had to do after each expedition. So, at night, you would sneak into his room that he used to share with Furlan, but now it was just him. Levi was on his bed, curled up on himself. You would just lay beside him, with your arms around him. You were sleeping together just like you used to when you were kids. Since that day, Levi never let you go back to your old bed.
- First meeting with the 104th cadets
As head of the medical team, you volunteered to do rounds at the training headquarters because some of the kids were incredibly clumsy. It was the first week of training and you would constantly be visited by Eren. That kid was way too into trainings and wouldn’t mind hurting himself.
”Eren you should really calm down a little bit on the trainings.”
”No! I have to become a survey corps soldier so I can defeat ALL THE TITANS!” Eren screamed determined. Mikasa behind who just grab Eren and forced him to sit on his chair so you could stitch him up.
—————
The next kid that you would often see was Armin. He was constantly cold during winter and you would order him to rest instead of training. He would have to stay with you because otherwise, he would continue training because he was determined to pass his evaluations.
”If I rest too long, I’ll forget everything!” Armin tried to explain.
”I don’t want you to get hurt if you work out while being sick like this. You would have to wear so many layers of clothes that you couldn’t even put your ODM gear on.”
Once, you had to come urgently because Armin got extremely sick during winter. And he requested to have you here because apparently, sick Armin is really picky. You couldn’t refuse of course. You took the medicine you had for a cold and some extra blankets because you knew there was not any at the training corps and left. Armin was curled up on himself with his winter coat as well as Mikasa’s on top him.
”Armin, hey, I’m here.” you woke him up gently by sitting next to him.
”My head...” Armin whimpered.
”I know, I asked another nurse to boil some water and. It’s going to get better,” you reassured him, ”here’s some extra blankets I took for you.” you showed him the two blankets and put them on him and took off the coats.
After a few days of intense care from you, Armin started to feel better already. But never enough for him to go back training and once you heard him talking with Eren and Mikasa.
”If I’m better now she’s going to leave and that means no more bedtime stories or anything!”
That night you told him that you had to leave because the survey corps had an expedition, he next morning.
”But you’re not a survey corps soldier.” Armin said confused.
”But I am the nurse assigned for the expeditions.”
”What? But isn’t that too dangerous?”
”I had a lot of training believe me, and I have been doing that for five years now so I think I’m good. But thank you for worrying about me.” you laughed softly. ”I’ll be back in a few weeks alright?”
Armin only nodded and fell back to sleep.
—————
Reiner would constantly come for minor injuries or fake ones just because he liked hanging out in the infirmary. Reiner was too adorable for you to send him away. Bertolt would very often be with Reiner, and he would too often apologise for Reiner behaviour.
”I know you must be very busy, We shouldn’t bother you any longer.” Bertolt would blabber.
”Not at all! You kids are too adorable and nice for me to throw you outside.” you reassured them which would always lead to you giving them a hug after. You would remember the first time you hugged Reiner, he back up so brutally that it just confused you.
”What’s wrong? Are you hurt somewhere?” you asked worried.
”No! I-I was just... surprised.”
”Well get used to that then.” you joked before hugging him again.
—————
You remember once Jean broke his arm so he couldn’t eat by himself and you had to feed him his soup and bread. Jean was sitting with his friend, but he couldn’t go and grab his food and earlier you had told him to wait for you. Five minutes after, you appeared next to him with his soup and bread and fruit.
”Thanks Y/N but I think I can eat by myself.” Jean said with a grin. You didn’t leave and instead just watched him struggle with his left arm. He would spill half of his spoon on the table but he didn’t ask for help. You took the spoon out of his hand and took a spoonful of soup and blow on it so it wouldn’t be too hot. You put your hand under the spoon and expected Jean to eat the food without protest but that didn’t happen.
”Jean, just eat the food.”
”No! I-”
”Open your mouth before I make you.” you ordered with a firm voice.
Everyone was surprised by your tone since you were always so calm and patient. Jean stopped protestant and ate his food. Once you were done you cleaned his plates and went back to your office without another word. Just before you were ready to go back to the survey corps headquarters, your door opened on Jean.
”Shouldn’t you be sleeping at this hour?” you asked softly.
”I...” he hesitated while blushing a little, ”I’m sorry about earlier. You just — you were just helping me, and I was... a jerk...”
”Jean, it’s fine.”
”You promise?”
”I promise, don’t worry. Now go back to bed, I have to leave soon.”
”When are you coming back?”
”Very soon, so until then, ask Marco to help you eat.”
- The night of the ceremony
Erwin was delivering his prepared speech, that he had practiced on you and Levi a least a thousand times. You would listen to him attentively in front of the crow. And in the end, only a bunch of them stayed. You would of course see Eren, Armin and Mikasa together. You greeted them and everyone else. You saw Jean sitting alone — you were surprised to see him here since you thought that he would join the MP. Your approached him and sat next to him.
”Are you okay? Where’s Marco?” you wondered.
”Marco’s dead.”
You didn’t say anything and just took Jean in your arms. He rested his head on you shoulder and cried a little.
- Jean can sleep after Marco’s death
You were in Levi’s office, doing paperwork with him as usual.
”You love these kids too much.” Levi stated.
”What? I like them a little.”
”Oh please. You spent all your free during these last three years with them.”
”It’s my job to take care of them.” you laughed.
”They weren’t even that badly injured.”
”Aw, were you jealous? You just have to tell me and I’m all yours.” you teased him.
”You already are.” Levi expressed with a smirk.
”Oh, I’m out of tea, I’ll be right back.” you warned Levi before leaving, but not before a kiss to your boyfriend.
You walked to the kitchen with your two cups and boiled some water. You poured some water in your cups and left the kitchen which leads to the mess hall. A small figure was sitting alone at the back. You walked closer to that person and quickly noticed Jean.
”Can’t sleep?” you asked softly.
”Every time I close my eyes, I keep seeing Marco’s half body just lying there... alone.”
”I know it’s hard, especially because you just spent three entire years with him.” you sat next to him, ”but you need to rest. You are part of the survey corps now and it’s a lot of work.”
”I can’t fall asleep...”
”Go back to bed and I’ll be there, I just have to take these,” you showed the cups of tea, ”to someone and I’ll be there okay?”
He nodded and left. You ran to Levi’s office and told him what happened.
”You love these kids too much.” Levi repeated.
”I’m sorry, it’s just...”
”Y/N, it’s fine,’ Levi reassured you smiling, ”plus, I know how that Jean boy is your favourite so just go but come back to bed with me!” Levi screamed as you ran out of his office as soon as he said it was fine.
Once in front of Jean’s bedroom that he shared with Connie, you opened the door gently. Connie was sleeping on the top of the bunk bed. Jean was sitting on his bed waiting for you. You sat next to him and took off your shoes.
”I once managed to get a guy who would only sleeps three hours top every night to have a better schedule of sleep. So, I think I can get you to sleep.” you told Jean.
Jean had his head on your lap, and you sat against the wall. You started to tell one of the stories your dad used to tell you when you couldn’t sleep. While doing that, you would of course play with his hair because according to Levi ”that sh!t’s amazing to help me sleep so do it”. Soon after Jean fall asleep. You wanted to leave but he had his arms around you too tight. After an hour of waiting, Levi opened the door with a confused expression.
”What are you still doing here?” Levi asked quietly.
”Jean isn’t letting me go.” you showed his arms around you.
”I’m going to kill that boy tomorrow when training!” Levi yelled softly.
Levi then helped you get out of Jean’s arms. You kissed his forehead before leaving him sleep.
”I’m never going to say this enough but you love these kids too much.”
”I do.” you confessed.
”You shouldn’t.”
”I know, they are strange-”
”No. I’m saying this because if they end up dying in the next few expeditions, you’ll never get over it. And I don’t like seeing you all sad.” he explained.
”I knoow, but I can’t help it if they are all so adorable!”

WHERE.[Erwin Smith x Daughter Reader]

It was a normal pleasant day for the Survey Corps. It's had been almost a month since they've returned from rescuing Eren and the fleeing of the traitors, Reiner and Bertoldt and been a few weeks after Historia had been crowned.
The Corps had been back on operation again after defeating Historia's father's Titan.
While most are now focusing on coming up with a plan to retake Wall Maria after Eren successfully obtained the power of Titan Hardening, Commander Erwin is on Survey Corps HQ in Trost together with his adoptive daughter, [Name] Smith.
[Name] became a fallen soldier after she lost her eyesight in the first encounter with the Female Titan back in their 57th expedition.
Being visually impaired, she's out of duty but she's to stay in the HQ with Erwin, as per his orders.
That brings us to the present with [Name] clutching at the arm of Erwin for support as they walk towards the messhall where everyone is having dinner.
Upon arriving, the room was bustling with the cheers of the newly recruits who's oblivious of the death trap they just got themselves into.
With a blank face, [Name] ignored all the judging stares of those who doesn't know what had happened to the young ex-corporal. Erwin sat her on her usual seat together with all the higher-ups.
Hanji then helped Erwin to fetch her meal so she can eat and take her medicine. With the two of them out of [Name]'s side and the absence of the other corporal, Levi, mutters of dissatisfaction and belittling from the new cadets rung up to [Name]'s ears.
“Who is she?”
“Why is a useless blind in our ranks?”
“Who does she think she is? Thinking she can survive without a damn sight.”
“She's probably whoring with the commander.”
Having enough of the mutterings of the brats, she stood up and feel her way towards the cadets using her heightened other senses.
“What did you brats just said?” her eerie deep voice with rasp in it echoed across the room, silencing the place.
Smug chuckle of a stupid cadet then break the silence.
“You want me to repeat what I said? Ha! So you're not just a useless blind but also a deaf! Well let me repeat then! You're probably just whoring with the Commander, I mean, what does a useless blind like you doing in our ranks.”
A loud bang was then heard from one corner where the new Levi's squad was sitting, there stood an outranged Jean and Eren.
“You idiot! How dare you talk to the Commander's daughter that way?!” yell Eren with palms clenched into fist and furrowed eyebrows.
“That's a corporal you're disrespecting!” added Jean.
The cadet's smug smirk dropped almost immediately and color starting to drain off of him. The room was silence once again with a pair of footsteps rang up to their ears.
Walking back to the superior's table, Erwin and Hanji placed the trays of foods then turn to the lady standing in front of the recruit's table.
“[Name]? What are you doing?” those words fell into the deaf ears of [Name] and look straight into the cadet's eyes despite not seeing a thing other than total darkness.
“You cadet. I know you're new here in the scouts but you're not new to the military. Is that how you respect a superior?” almost immediately, the boy strung up and salute to [Name].
“You do not only bad-mouthed a corporal but also disrespect the Commander with your filthy mouth. Now receive your punishment, you're to run around the HQ and you are not to stop until I say so. I don't care if you lose your leg running your laps, after all you're not a useless blind in this ranks.” and with so much fright from the (color) haired female, he run outside without a second thought.
With that, [Name] went back to go and eat her dinner with a single thought in her mind and a doubt in her heart.
After dinner, the two then went back to Erwin's office to finish his paperwork.
“Erwin, tomorrow you're going to retake Wall Maria, right?” [Name] quietly asked.
“Yes. Also, good thing you remind me. You are to stay with Commander Shadis as we do the operation.” [Name]'s ears almost burst at her adoptive father's words.
“But Erwin, I can fight too. I can help to retake the wall.” she immediately reply. Stopping abruptly at his daughter's exclaimed, Erwin look at her with wide eyes.
“No.[Name], you're staying here where it's safe. Braun and Hoover is still out there and with Hanji's report about this beast Titan who turns a whole village into Titans, we can't risk you getting injured or worst die in there.”
“But like I said I can fight. I'm still a soldier and ---”
“[Name] you're blind! You're disabled! It's too dangerous out there. I'm doing this to protect you.--”
“So that's how it really is?! It's because I'm useless now because I can't see anymore! Why?! Back when I'm still fine, you wouldn't hesitate to give me mission after mission but now that I'm visually impaired I'm just a rug doll you're going to throw! Is it because I'm not your perfect soldier now?! That without my eyesight I'm just a weak little daisy you can pluck out of the garden?!”
“No! That's not---”
“No! It is! Don't you think I don't know that?! You think I don't know that a lot of people are waiting for me to accept that I'm good-for-nothing now so they can pull the trigger and kill me?! You think I don't know the guns pointed at me every single second?!”
Anger and hurted tears streaming down [Name]'s cheeks and Erwin's eyes filled with regret. Sighing, he walk up to his daughter and put a hand in her shoulder.
“Look, just give me more time [Nickname]. I'll put you back to the battlefield.”
“Don't call me that! Put me back? How?! Are you willingly give me your eyes? You can do that? Can you just stop pretending that you can fix everything with your gamble? Your can't do anything, you're just my adopted father anyway.”
Pain strikes Erwin's heart at the words of his daughter as she feel her way out of the office and into her own room, stumbling a couple of times before entering her bedroom.
_____
After that argument, [Name] locked herself in her room and doesn't even listen to the knock on her door by her father, bidding her a short farewell. Hours had passed and [Name] decided to get off of her bed and get ready to go visit her so-called grandpa, Cadet Instructor Keith Shadis.
Almost four days that the scouts went to retake Wall Maria and now they're back. The heroes of Shiganshina. [Name], received a letter that they found a compatible eye donor and is ready for the transplant, having her missed the return of her comrades.
Two days and the operation was successful. Her then (color except blue) eyes are now bright blue. Upon hearing the news of the operation, Hanji went and fetch the (color) tressed female and had her ride a carriage.
Much to [Name]'s surprise, Hanji hadn't uttered a single word since they took off and to her bewilderment, they stopped into the cemetery especially made for the military.
Her heart dropped at the sight of the regiment, mourning over their fallen soldiers. Frankly, she use her sight to go and look for her father that she dearly missed and hoped to apologized to.
“[Name]... I'm sorry.” she heard Hanji mumbled and ushered her to a certain tombstone where she see the name that made her whole world crumble.
There, written in the tomb is Erwin Smith. The name of the only man who have the courage to raise a meek, bruised little girl who he found on the side of the street. The very man who was so proud of her achievements, the only person who ever believed in her from the very beginning. The only one she will ever be proud to call her father.
Weak legs gave out and she fall into the ground, in front of her father's grave. Hot tears streaming down her cheeks like waterfalls. Her whole body shakes in disbelief at the loss of her beloved family. And to think that she haven't had the chance to apologise for their fight, hell, she haven't said she loved and cared for him for so long since she was six and now, she doesn't have the chance anymore.
“Who?...”
“Who is it?...”
[Name] mutters, eyes widen and lips trembling in every word. The rest of the Levi's squad, Levi and Hanji, stare at her in sympathy.
“Who was it...”
Contemplating to step forward and apologise to the crying lady, Armin ashamedly about to walk up to her when he was stopped by Levi.
“Who is it?! WHO EVER IS IT THAT TOLD YOU, YOU CAN GO WHERE I CAN'T FOLLOW YOU!!” shouted [Name] in anger, sadness and regrets.
The scouts can only hang their heads low in grieve and emptiness.
____
A week after [Name]'s outburst that forced her body to shut down and fell into a short coma. [Name] woke up and she immediately asked to be discharged to stay in her father's office and room. Upon arriving there with Hanji trailing behind her, [Name] all of a sudden, felt her whole body went numb and she fell in Erwin's office floor.
“[NAME]!” Hanji ran up to her quickly and try to assist her.
“I-I...”
“What is it? Those it hurts somewhere?”
“I- Hanji...my legs...I can't feel my legs...Hanji! I can't! My legs! I can't feel my legs.”
“Come on, let's get you back to the infirmary.” She said to the weilling woman and pick her up from the floor and into the infirmary.
“You're physically stable but it seems that you had been traumatized after all the events happened for the past weeks. Especially after loosing someone who's emotionally attached to you, it affects your capabilities to do the things you usually do with that person you always lean on. In your case, it was Erwin.” Hanji explained to the girl who's laying on the bed with a blank expression and an IV bag attached to her wrist.
“So you mean... I wouldn't be able to do the things I usually do with Dad? But... everything... I did everything with Dad. So it means I won't be able to do things even if I can see...”
_____
4 years later
The Titans are all gone and the scouts can finally venture out the outside world, with Eren's father's memories, they're able to go and see the sea that he, Armin and Mikasa always hoped to see.
[Name] is back in her old self as a soldier to make her father even more proud and to not waste the eyes that Erwin had given to her.
Once there, all of them are mesmerized by the beauty the ocean holds. Different things they notice that peaked their interest but two oddly not as hyped as everyone else, Eren and [Name].
Both are just staring off to space and muttering words to themselves.
“Hey Erwin ... Are you seeing this now? I'm sure you do. It's beautiful isn't it?... We're seeing the outside world now. All thanks to you. Ha! And stupid gambles.
I missed you Erwin. Don't worry, you're safe now. You can rest all you want.
I'll... I'll see you later Dad...Soon, I'll get to where you are now.”
The End.

Levi x Reader I am all yours - Part 3
So here is the next part. Woohoo! This one has been quite hard to write as my CFS has really kicked in, but its here at least. This one is just filling out the next chapter. I hope you like, please comment and let me know your thoughts. You know I love it when you do. Thank you to all those who have supported me so far in writing this, and I will be back on it as soon as I start feeling better. Much love to you all xxx WARNING - Swearing from the outset. Part 3 “Ahem, Levi. A word.” The kiss stopped, and you turn your head to see Erwin. You watch Levi walk off still giving you an angry glare.
What the actual fuck?
You take a deep sigh of relief as you see them walk away. You needed air, to blow everything that had just happened away and you make your way outside. He kissed you. As in 'full on kissing' kissing, what the hell was that about? Your brain hurt as you try to come up with a reason for the way he was acting. It was so conflicted. On one hand he was a complete fucking maniac, and yet he had tried made sure you were okay in his own weird little way.
Were the rumours right? You couldn't think like that. He had treated you so badly, you couldn't possibly forgive him for what he had done. If you hadn't defended yourself you wouldn't be alive now. You were sure of that.
The wind blew around you as you reach the courtyard. You really should have put your cloak on before you came out. You wrap your arms around you as you walk along the path and you hear the horses whinny as the wind rattles the doors of the stables. You deviate from your undecided destination, and steal yourself inside. It was fairly warm in here, the horses paced around, obviously feeling unsettled. You speak calmly to them, giving each a pat or stroke, and you notice that it seems to soothe them.
Helping them calm down settled your nerves, and you walk past Captain Levi's horse, its dark eyes staring at you blankly. Like owner like horse. You watch him intently, and he whinnies again as another gust bashes against the walls. So it was his horse that was getting all flustered because of the wind. You slowly open the door to his berth, and walk over to him. He was nervous, so you talk to him in hushed tones, sending him reassurance, and you pat his side. He really was a beautiful horse, and definitely cream of the crop. You feel him shivering, and you frown, the horses should have been accustomed to the cold by now, they were bred for it, among other things. Searching round you find his winter coat, throw it over his back and fasten it round his neck. He looks at you and you sense he is thanking you. You were definitely going mad, the horse would start talking to you in a minute. You stroke his mane and pick up a brush and gently groom him.
“Its okay boy, I feel the cold too.” He shakes his head and nibbles at your jacket, you laugh as it takes you by surprise. “Haha, I don't think that's very tasty.” He nuzzles against your side, and you stroke his forehead lovingly. It was true, animals really did know how to make you feel better.
“He likes you.” You look up from where you were standing, and watch as the familiar figure walks towards you.
“Thanks.” You say flatly, not wanting to speak to him. “I hope you had a nice chat with Erwin.”
“I wouldn't call it that. He wasn't very happy, especially when I told him how much trouble you had been.” You pause what you're doing, and glare at him, just fucking typical for him to completely twist things in his favour. You look away from him and keep petting the horse, you weren't going to dignify him with a response. Captain Levi seemed to become annoyed at your silence, but you didn't care, he was not worth the effort. “Tsk. I forgot to mention you have no fucking manners.”
“Okay, did you also mention you have been a complete and utter jerk the past few months, and, oh, that you tried to kill me?” You feel you anger rising again, you had tried so hard to keep it under wraps, but he just knew how to piss you off. He just stares at you his eyes hard, face unmoving and he shrugs.
“That is neither here nor there.”
“You have got a fucking nerve. You treat me like shit for as long as I have been here, punish me at every given opportunity, try to kill me, isolate me from my friends and then on top of that you have the fucking audacity to think you have a right to kiss me. I mean, how fucking dare you!” You shake as the adrenaline rages through your body. Picking up one of the grooming brushes from the shelf you throw it at him, he anticipates your move, and elegantly moves out the way. The brush makes its way to the doorway and narrowly misses the new occupant of the stables.
“Commander Erwin. I-” You quickly apologise before being cut off.
“That is quite enough (last name).” He walks further into the stables and casts Levi a knowing, disdainful glance from the corner of his eye. “I hear that you two have been causing a fair amount of trouble.” You stand there feeling extremely ashamed of yourself, only turning to anger when you see Captain Levi's eyes smirking victoriously. “That includes you Levi. You have been running this poor girl through the ringer. I think the least you can do is apologise, don't you?” The Captain's eyes widen at being openly reprimanded and he looks to Commander Erwin with a look of pure astonishment. Erwin motions to you with his eyes, and you hear Captain Levi growl as he turns back to you.
“I apologise Cadet (Last name)” You hold a smirk back when you notice he said it with gritted teeth; you find it so highly amusing, you have to put a hand over your mouth to cage a laugh. Erwin gives you a sideways smile, he seems to be enjoying this as well.
“Come, Levi. Why so formal? You weren't so proper when you had her pinned up against the wall a few minutes ago.” You choke on air and feel your cheeks burning. Did he really just say that? You dart your eyes to the Captain. You see a faint hue of pink on his cheeks, and he bows his head to cover his eyes.
“Of course, Erwin. (First name), is that adequate?” You can sense from his sullen tone that he was feeling very uncomfortable, you totally knew how that felt. It was strange hearing your name being said by him, you preferred it a lot more to brat or idiot. Why did Erwin draw attention to how he found you? Why did he even mention it? Was it his way of pulling Captain Levi into line? Either way, all of this was a complete revelation to you. The Captain obviously respected Erwin, that much was evident, you didn't think that he would bow down to anyone else like this.
“It will do. Now (last name). I wanted to have a word with you.” You gulp, and nod cautiously. “I hear that you did very well in your training the other day. In fact not only did you best Kirstein, you bested Levi too.” You hear him chuckle.
“I wouldn't say that” Captain Levi retorted.
“I would. From all reports; she was completely incapacitated due to being in a suppressive choke hold, and still managed to disable you. At the end of the day Levi, she was the last one standing, she won that match fair and square.” He looks back to you. “Honestly, I never thought I would see the day that Levi got beaten by one of our new recruits.” This brought a reaction from Levi that was halfway between a scoff, and choking on his own ego. “Either way, due to your impressive display, I wanted to ask you personally for your participation in our next mission.” You eyes widen.
“It is only a small operation, a four man team needs to go one of our outposts, not far from here, and pick up some of Hanji's notes that she left behind from our last mission. It shouldn't pose too much danger, and I am sure that you will be able to handle it. It would also mean that you go into the same ranks as Jaegar, Alert and Kirstein etcetera.”
Your mouth gapes, does this mean you were effectively being promoted from newbie status? There was so much to think about. He was serious, he wanted you to go on a mission, and go out there with the titans. You may even get your wish of being trodden on by a Titan after all.
“I don't think that is such a good idea.” Captain Levi interjects, there is something in his eyes which you cant make out, he seems agitated with the news, and on all accounts, quite panicked. He flits his eyes to you, almost assessing what your answer will be and you just stand there not really sure what to say or do. “She doesn't have enough field training for this!”
“Well, that is the reason why you will be heading the team Levi. However, I do think she is more than capable of holding her own. She has already shown us that she doesn't flinch when it comes to her being face to face with a titan. She has good accuracy with her blades and is one of the better balanced ones with the 3dmg.”
He would be coming with you? You finally thought that you had found safety in Erwin, but he was throwing you out to the wolves again. You sigh and nod, at least he acknowledged your hard work. You watch Captain Levi, was he angry again? You see his fist clench and release again. What was he pissed about now? Because he would be working with you? Or that it had been made official that you beat him in a fight?
“Ah, also, Levi, even though you will be heading this team. I think it would be best to see it as a four man squad, rather than a trio with a leader. I would like to see you go out there as equals, I think after the recent displays, it would be best to show the cadets that you aren't, how did you put it (last name)? Yes that's it, 'a complete jerk'.” You chuckle, something about Erwin saying it, made it even funnier. Captain Levi glares at you from underneath his eyebrows, which you ignore, turning your head to look at anything else.
“Tsk.” Is that all he really had to say? You could see that there was something more going on here. What it was, you were definitely not privy to. Go out as equals? Erwin wanted to make sure that he couldn't use his rank against you? It was a dangerous plan at any rate, you weren't going to be safeguarded by anyone else.
“Commander? Who else will be going on the mission?” You ask meekly. You almost wanted him to say Eren, though in the same breath, maybe it wasn't such a good idea. Eren was so protective, and Captain Levi was so, well... Levi, that there would be more danger from them than the titans.
“I have selected Blouse and Kirstein. They need a little more field experience, but they are solid team themselves. No, Levi; I do not want any more arguments from you. I have already told you once, I will not repeat myself. Do not make me embarrass you further today.”
You watch as Captain Levi drags his teeth over his bottom lip in an attempt to stop himself from snapping back at his Commander. They had obviously had some harsh words when Erwin had dragged him off. The thought of having to spend time with him officially worried you, but orders were orders, and at least you had Sasha and Jean with you.
“One more thing. I think it would be best for both of you to cool off. Stay away from each other for a few days, the mission is in three days time, so try your best to steer clear of each other.” What a strange request, but you felt it was actually a very good idea, it meant you had space to talk and be with your friends and get some sort of normality back before venturing out. Commander Erwin turns on his heels and leaves you alone with Captain Levi.
“Well your horse seems to have calmed down now, so I'll get going.” You walk past him, making your way as quickly as possible. He catches you arm firmly and you turn to him in surprise.
“Don't do anything stupid.” You look at him in puzzlement. “I mean it, Br.... (first name)” He lets go of you and then makes his own way out of the stables leaving you more confused than when you had entered. He had called you by your first name again, you hated to admit it but you rather liked how it sounded coming from him. Strangely it gave you a weird sense of acceptance, even if the first time had been forced and probably meant anything but.
You shut the door behind you and scan the area for your teammates, and find they were sitting in the courtyard chatting. The wind had died down, and the sun was peeking weakly through the clouds. You couldn't help but smile at them, they really had showed you how much they cared, even Mikasa, she had bothered to ponder about a situation you were in and given it real thought. That was something quite phenomenal.
“(first name)!” You hear Armin beckon you over. You make your way over to them, and sit down on the wall just behind them. The faces looking at you were mixed with anticipation and worry, you laugh at your audience.
“You will never guess what happened!” You stop, you weren't going to tell them about the kiss, no way. “I think Erwin ripped Mr Stick-up-his-Ass a new one!” You couldn't help but giggle as you hear the gasps sound around you.
“So what did he say?”
“I didn't hear the actual conversation, but Captain Levi tried to make out that it was me causing all the problems. I don't think Erwin believed him though. They both spoke to me in the stables, and he made the Captain apologise.”
“What?! He knows how?” Sasha squealed, she really was excitable. “What happened next?”
“Please tell me he got kicked by a horse” Eren asked dismissively, you look at him with a heavy heart, he really wasn't happy.
“No Eren, he didn't, something much better. Erwin asked me to go on a mission to pick up Hanji's notes in a four man squad.”
“Yeah, we got told about that last night. Didn't realise you were coming along with us.” Jean commented, seemingly as uninterested as Eren.
“But did he tell you that even though the Captain is coming, he isn't leading us?” That made everyone stop what they were doing and pay undivided attention to you. “He has been told in no uncertain terms that we are to all go as equals.”
“WHAT!?” The chorus was hilarious to your ears.
“You don't mean that he isn't going to be bossing us about all mission?” Sasha asks in disbelief.
“That's exactly what I mean. You have no idea how pissed the Captain was!” You laugh again, the whole situation made you feel like you were soaring through the sky, you felt so happy, you had all your friends around you and you finally have one up on Mr Bipolar.
“I still don't like it. You are going to be alone with him and away from any help, he could easily pull the same stunt over again and leave you out there to die.” You sigh as you notice Eren standing with his arms folded, you hop off the wall and rub his arm. “Eren, it will be okay. I have Jean and Sasha with me. Nothing will happen. I promise.”
“I hope for your sake it doesn't.” You roll your eyes and sit down with Sasha and Jean to talk about the upcoming mission, and go over the details that they had already been given.
~
It had been a long day, and you were curled up in your bed. Most of the girls were already asleep, and you stare blankly at the wall, thinking on everything that had happened. Every reasoning about how the Captain had acted just left more questions, it was hopeless. You shift, tucking your feet further into the covers, when you feel your mattress dip, your covers lift up and someone slip into the bed next to you. You whip your head round in fear, when you see Sasha's familiar face looking at you and you relax.
“Hey. There was something I wanted to ask you.” She whispers in an attempt to not to wake the others. “It feels like you left something out of your story earlier. What was it?” You grimace, you really didn't want to let anyone know what really happened. If she knew and anyone found out you would have to explain something that you didn't understand; not something you wanted to do.
“Sasha, just leave it.” You murmur.
“No, I can tell its eating you up. You gave me your dinner, that's not like you at all.” You sigh, you can see real concern in her eyes, this must be what having a friend feels like.
“Okay. Don't freak out. He kissed me.” She gasps, and you put a finger to your mouth to quiet her. “It was really weird, like he did it because he was so angry with me.” You continue to whisper. “ I don't know why he did it so don't ask me why. Erwin caught us, just before he pulled him aside.”
“Oh my god! I cant believe it.” You try to hush her again.
“You must keep this to yourself. I don't want to have to explain everything to people, so please, please don't say anything!” You can see her eyes shining and her mindless grin even in the darkness.
“I promise, I promise. Did you like it?” You are completely caught off guard with the question. Had you? You had been shocked but you hadn't really given the experience much thought. You could say it was fairly passionate, he was pissed off for one thing, but he had pinned you up against the wall, and had kissed you quite forcefully. You feel your body shiver at the thought and pull the covers over yourself further, hoping it is the cold night air.
“I don't know.” Your brain was desperately trying to keep up with all the thoughts running round your head. On the logical side of your brain you were still angry with the way you had been treated, you were scared of him, and quite rightly. On an emotional level, your thoughts were not so clear, that kiss -even being as rough as it was- had played on your mind since it happened.
“Well either which way, I think he likes you, even if he is really crap expressing it.”
“That's putting it mildly.” You laugh under your breath.
You talk about the impending mission for a little while longer, Sasha retreats to her own bed and as you drift off to sleep your thoughts are filled with the Captain.
~
Three days later....
You had slept badly, your slumber filled with tense dreams that you couldn't remember. You had woken early, and checked that all your belongings were packed. You had dressed and made your way to the stables to check on your horse and load the small bags with your packed items. You munched on the small breakfast that you had prepared for yourself, you were leaving early anyway, and would have missed the morning meal in the mess hall.
You go to sit down by the lake on the far side of the courtyard. It was very quiet, with the odd bird tweeting in the distance. You watch, as the horizon turns from a beautiful orange, to a pale pink as the sun creeps its way up from the land and into the sky. You smile at the sight, it really was quite breath taking. You hear footsteps behind you, but you don't look to see who it is, you didn't care, you were enjoying your view far too much.
“It really makes you feel human doesn't it?” Captain Levi stands beside you; it wasn't really a question, more of a statement. “No matter what happens, the sun will rise and set, completely disregarding the world it shines down on.” You don't answer but you nod. As deep as it was, he was right. Things move on and the world still turns, even if people die.
“What's gotten into you?” You say after a few minutes of silence. “You planning on dying today Captain.”
“Not if I can help it. I would prefer it if you didn't try to kill me with your incompetency on the field.” You growl at the comment, there was really no need for it. Up until this point it had been fairly amicable. Trust him to ruin the moment.
“Well, Levi.” You make a point at disregarding his rank, he wasn't the boss any more, not on this mission any how. “I would hate to be the cause of your death, it would be dreadfully ironic, though wouldn't it? Killed in action by one of your own teammates.” You end the sentence dryly.
“Tsk” You hear his feet shift. “Just because Commander Erwin told you we are equals, doesn't mean that I am not your superior.”
“Whatever Levi! Orders are orders.” You hear the sound of footsteps coming towards you, turning round you spot Jean and Sasha heading for your direction. Sasha looks extremely tired, she must not have slept well either, Jean however looked determined.
“Are we going then?” Jean asks directly to you rather than Levi. You give him a sideways glance and see that he is clenching his teeth again. You nod and get up from your seated position, you make your way over to the stables with the new arrivals, leaving Levi standing at the lake on his own.
“Are your horses ready?” You ask as you saddle your horse and check the reins. They confirm, and you walk your horses out of the stables. Levi passes you without even an acknowledgement , and soon returns with his horse. You walk the horses over to the equipment shed and get your gear together. Nerves start to show in your hands as they shake; were you worried about the mission? Or being on the mission with Levi? You give in trying to figure it out and clap your hands to shake out the trembles.
You gear up and walk outside, and mount your horse, waiting for the others. They soon file out and get on their own horses. Everyone is fairly quiet, Levi, as normal was mute and aloof. You all follow him out of the courtyard and make your way down towards the outpost.
As you ride through, you realise it really was quite beautiful, if you ignored the derelict buildings and eerie quiet. The birds sang as they flew out overhead, the green pastures now wild and unkempt. You ride your horse hard, and you feel all the doubts and anger of the last few months blow away as you speed along. You ride for hours, not daring to stop. You remember in training that you had to be constantly moving, otherwise you may as well be a sitting duck. You contemplate the time when you had witnessed the titans for the first time. They were the stuff of nightmares. No one could imagine something so monstrous, yet here they were destroying humanity with every mouthful. You had managed to take one down, unscathed. Some others in your team however, hadn't been so lucky. You feel your heart pull as you remember your teammates, in pieces. That was not going to happen again, not on your watch!
“Are we far, Levi?” Your legs begin to ache as the horses start to slow down, and you shift uncomfortably in the saddle. Your ride had been clear of any titans, which had been lucky, and you were somewhat relieved.
“No. We should be there shortly.” His voice is short and slightly breathy. You muse he should sound like that more often, his breathing made his words sound a little softer. It suited him. Maybe you should have him chase you round the courtyard before you let him talk to you, he might inadvertently sound nicer.
The horses slow to a trot as you walk through a path with buildings either side. You feel the hairs on the back of your neck prickle, and you become more alert. You can't even hear the birds calling any more. You hear a massive crashing sound to the side of you, your horse bolts down an alleyway to your left when you hear Sasha scream.
You jump off your horse and run back, your horse would be fine, just useless at the moment. You knew something was wrong. As you reach the place you had been before the horse ran, you look up to see a Titan, with Levi firmly in its grasp.
“LEVI!” Your eyes scan the area for the others and notice Sasha pulling an unconscious Jean into a building and Levi's gear crushed on the ground below you. It must have been damaged in the initial blow. Fuck! You fire off your 3dmg, zipping up to the building near the Titan and run across the roof. Your boots pound across the rooftop, tiles slipping from beneath you as your mind runs into overdrive. Blind-siding this monster was the only way you could start on the attack. You hear Levi yell, and see the Titan raising him to its mouth. Adrenaline surges through you, seemingly bringing time to a standstill. The titan's motion seems to blur slightly as you focus, and in that moment you shoot your line to the Titan's arm while slashing frantically, managing to slice the hand off at the wrist, although shattering your blades in the process as they bounce off bone. The Titan howls and swings out with its damaged arm, causing you to lose balance. Your hair whips behind you as you plummet downwards, watching the floor rise up to meet you, and somehow in the nick of time you send out another line and swing out to catch Levi, just before he hits the ground.
Sasha comes out from her hiding place to bundle Levi inside, just one glance shows you he's completely dazed. You grab your next set of blades and whistle through the air back at the titan. Back on the roof, the behemoth ploughs a hand through the slates next to you and takes out part of the roof, almost ripping your feet out from underneath you. With a crack, your next line flies out in desperation, and hooks deeply into the Titan's jaw. You reel yourself in and set off to take the bastard down, knowing timing is everything. You glide around it, readying yourself to strike when it swipes around and catches one of your legs. If it could laugh, you are sure it would have done. You struggle desperately to get free without any luck.
“(FIRST NAME)!!” You hear a voice call your name. Fear stricken, and urgent, it wasn't one you recognised. Taking a quick look down you see Levi, leaning in a door way staring up at you unable to do anything. It was enough to shake you from your stupor and with a single movement you slice through the fingers holding your leg, ripping your uniform on your left shin. You set a line which pierces its shoulder blade and while reeling yourself in, you run up its back. You drag your blades across its skin, and pound them through the flesh at its weak point giving you enough force to hurl yourself to safety. With a pitiful wail, the titan comes smashing to the ground and you remind yourself that oxygen is indeed necessary as you breathe a sigh of relief. You scan the area from your position...
All clear, thank goodness...
“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?!” You hear as you put your feet back down on solid ground. Levi, limping slightly, storms up towards you.
“Saving your ass, I think.” You give him a smile, but you realise that he is fuming and your face falls. You didn't get it. You did enough to save everyone, as far as you knew everyone was okay.
“You were being fucking reckless. You seriously are a bloody idiot. I should never have let Erwin put you on this mission!”
“Excuse me! If I hadn't have been here you would have been Titan chow!” You roar back at him. “Dead. You know? As in, not able to be giving me the third degree right now!” You couldn't believe it, what the fuck? Was he really riding your ass because you saved him? What an egotistical prick!
“Levi, she didn't do anything wrong” You notice Jean slowly walking up with a bad cut to his head. Sasha followed quickly behind him. “She saved us all, if she hadn't kept its attention, we'd all be dead.” His voice was cold, and cutting. “And that definitely includes you. Stop being a moronic ass, and let's get the horses and go.”
“Tsk. Fucking brats!” You watch in astonishment as he walks off and picks up his damaged gear. Jean and Sasha walk up behind you as you watch him slink off to find his horse. You were livid, and you turn to them with a look of complete loss.
“What's up with him?” Sasha asks.
“I should have let the Titan eat him. I wont be saving him again, that's for sure.” You reply with malice, not really answering her question.
“There's something not right” You look at Jean with a raised eyebrow. “Well, more than usual, and its all directed at you Mrs Ackerman.” He smirks at you and you roll your eyes.
“Not that shit again.” You walk off to find your horse and sure enough, there he was, still in the alleyway. You walk him back and find Sasha and Jean already mounted on their horses. Patting your horse to reassure him, you saddle up. You trot along the path and find Levi waiting for you, he shoots you a glare and then huffs as he starts off without you.
You ride for another 10 minutes feeling extremely achy and arrive at the outpost. The place is completely deserted, and you carefully make your way to the entrance. You walk the horses around to the old paddock and make sure that they have food and water. Grabbing your belongings from the saddle bags you slowly make your way into the building.
The outpost main building was dusty and dark, and smelt of mould; although fortunately it still seemed sturdy enough to protect the team. You find a place to sit down in what you believed to be some sort of rest room or social quarters. Leaning back in the chair, you sigh as you relax your tired muscles and aching joints. Everything hurt, and on the come down from all the adrenaline, you definitely feel like shit.
“(first name)” Sasha calls though from another room. “I'm just going to take Jean up to the medical room here and get cleaned up.” You hear Jean bitching about her mothering him as their voices get further away... So typically Jean.
“What is it with you?” You don't even bother turning to see who it is, Levi's voice was clearly distinctive. You don't answer, as you know it wasn't really intended as a question. “You have a total disregard for your own safety. You were lucky you didn't die out there.” Even though the words themselves were of concern, his tone was not, he was incredulous.
“Maybe, maybe not, but I didn't and neither did you.” You reply, your voice was curt and you cut yourself short to stop yourself from ranting at him and his stupid attitude.
“Brat, did you ever stop to think that you might be important to people alive?” You scowl at him.
“Well, sure. Everyone is better off being alive.” Your voice is dismissive. What a stupid statement. “But if you dare talk to me like that again, you wont be around to shout at me afterwards!”
“Say that again, Brat! I fucking dare you.” His eyes flashed. You get up out of your chair and walk towards him slowly, preparing yourself.
“Talk to me again and I will shut you up-” You are interrupted as he grabs you and pulls you towards him. “Levi! Don't even think about it!” remembering the last encounter, your left hand whips to your hip, fingers closing around the field knife at your waist.
“Shut up, (First Name) Your leg's bleeding.” He used your name? Wait, what?! You allow yourself to watch as he kneels down, then you see your ripped and heavily bloodied trousers. You had a gash on your right thigh, a fucking big one... How the hell did that happen? Why hadn't you noticed? He examines it and stands up quickly, grabbing your arm and throwing you over his shoulder.
“Hey!”
“We need to clean the wound. You don't want to die of sepsis do you?” His voice may have softened slightly, but that still didn't stop you struggling to get away from him. His arm clamps around you tightly even preventing you from squirming, so you resign yourself to fate. You rest your head in your hand in annoyance as he walks you to the medical room...

Song!fic Dead! Levi x Reader
Song: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells your story - Hamilton
Warning: Angst
I've recently gotten into Hamilton and this song is literally a tear jerker omlll get ur tissues
I've almost cried like three times while writing this
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me tell you what I wish I’d known
When I was young and dreamed of glory
You have no control
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story
The Survey Corps were known for the high death rate, most recruits and cadets died within their first year, higher-ups and superiors lost their lives to the Titan onslaught that threatened but some survived and shot through the ranks as some of the strongest. You. You were one of them. But you weren’t alone. You had been surrounded by loving and caring friends for all your life, sadly, you had to say goodbye to them earlier than you wanted but nobody has control over anyone’s fate. Not even your lover.
Levi Ackerman
You both weren’t the best pair at the start but once you began to date you both were an inseparable duo that seemed to be made for one another.
Who lives
Who dies
Who tells your story
You had to say goodbye to too many people who you wished that could stay longer, who you wished you spoke to one last time. You would never forget your friend’s names. Countless amount of people who you welcomed into your life and have changed it in their own little unique way. But for Levi, he made a massive impact on your life. Despite the cold behaviour he always made sure you were alright and happy despite the situation at hand.
Some years passed and you gave him a wonderful son, a son of his own named Alexander who grew up and joined the Survey Corps to be with his father.
Despite Levi’s tragic childhood, he was an inspiration to hundreds, even a titan shifter, your friend Eren Yeager looked up to him brightly. He never forgot about those soldiers that lay down their lives for humanity, he swore to make their deaths have a meaning and to eradicate the Titans and let them rest in peace.
Every other founding father’s story gets told
Every other founding father gets to grow old
But when you’re gone who remembers your name?
Who keeps your flame?
Who tells your story?
And just like that, you were left alone, news had spread that both Levi and your son had been caught in an explosion with Zeke Yeager. Just like that. Your family died while you were left waiting in your little home, waiting for your two most precious people in the world to return home.
But they never did..
Who tells your story?
Who tells your story?
F/N
I put myself back in the narrative
You were broken, you begged for both of them to retire and join you but unfortunately, both males were stubborn and refused. Levi had explained that he dedicated his heart to protecting you, his son and humanity. That evening he left you with a comforting kiss on the lips with your son in tow. Levi knew something was going to go wrong later on so before he left he gave you his wedding ring.
How you wished you could’ve stopped them, how you wished you could’ve kept them safe in your little home.
F/N
I stop wasting time on tears
I live another fifty years
It’s not enough
It’s true that you planned on avenging your family, your friends, everyone who had lost their lives in the war that has been happening while you have been at home doing chores, cooking dinner and making sure both your loved ones are warm and well fed every time they dropped by.
You were going to fight against the Yeagerists you were finally going to bring peace and justice to those dogs. You were going to make sure your husband, your son and everyone who has lost their lives were not forgotten.
You were willing to carry Levi’s torch of hope.
F/N
I interview every soldier who fought by your side
..She tells our story..
I try to make sense of your thousands of pages of writings
You really do write like you’re running out of
Time..!
How you wished you could’ve left with them, why did you always seem to be left alone? The world was cruel but you didn’t know it could be this cruel. You’ve gone through Levi’s things along with your sons, you’ve attached your beloved husband's ring to a chain around your neck.
I rely on Hanji
While she’s alive
We tell your story
She’s buried by the oak tree
Near you
When I needed her most
She was right on time
You had met with Hanji and the first thing she did when she saw you was taking you in a hug and apologising for what happened, from there you both continued to fight side by side. She knew you were fighting for your family, for everyone you lost and she supported it. She knew if Levi saw you now he couldn’t have been more proud of how far you’ve come.
But sadly, some months passed and you’ve lost one of your closest friends too. Hanji died the day before you had won the war and peace was declared. Even though you were the last survivor that was once in the Survey Corps you carried on the torch for each individual member. You had buried her and each of your friends and family under a large oak tree. Even though you couldn’t bury their bodies you left a grave for your comrades who fought bravely.
And I’m still not through
I ask myself “what would you do if you had more-”
Time..!
And Lord in his kindness
He gives me what you always wanted
He gives me more
Time
You had risen in popularity within the walls and with outside, you fought for people’s rights, you fought for justice and equality between everyone and everything within and without the three walls that once caged in all of humanity.
Though popularity gave you somewhat fame you were still wishing to see everyone from months, years ago. You wanted to see their proud cheers and faces when you stand off in public, you wanted to show Levi how much you had done for humanity, you wanted to show your son what a peaceful world looked like.
I raise funds in Sina for the Ackerman monument
..She tells my story..
I speak out against slavery
You could have done so much more if you only had-
Time
Yes, you have made the largest impact on humanity. You were known to go down in history for your acts and kindness towards everyone. You never would’ve known you would become the most famous woman in history to change the entirety of the human race.
But with those big projects you had
You also had little ones but they were as equally as important to you as well..
Oh!
Can I show you what I’m proudest of?
The orphanage…
I established the first private orphanage inside Wall Sina
The orphanage…
I help to raise hundreds of children from the Underground!
I get to see them growing up
It’s true you have set up multiple orphanages around the walls and outside them as well, but the first and most important one to you was the one within Wall Sina for the children of the Underground. You’ve always known that if Levi would do something about the children down under he would help them in a blink of an eye.
And so you carried his torch on...
You made the orphanage especially for the poor children, you wanted to give them hope, to give them life, you always had a feeling Levi would’ve been proud of you for helping the people of the Underground. You wanted to achieve his dreams and goals even if he couldn’t be here with you to see them.
The orphanage…
In their eyes, I see you Levi
I see you every time
And when my time is up
Have I done enough?
Will they tell your story?
You loved the way the small children’s faces lit up when they saw you or your co-workers. They were pure and adorable, one day a new little fellow and his elder brother arrived at the orphanage and he reminded you exactly of your son and Levi.
The children would ask you about the Ackerman monument in Sina and you’d tell them the exact story of Humanities Strongest, the love of your life who would bring peace to humanity and save everyone. From hearing your stories about your husband the children greatly admired him and his heroics.
Oh I can’t wait to see you again..
It’s only a matter of time..
You felt yourself being drifted off to the afterlife, the warm breeze engulfing you with a blinding light. You were at the age of 78 when your time had come when you had lived life to the fullest, when you changed humanity for the better, you had carried the torch and made all your friends dreams come true and very much real.
Opening your eyes, you glanced down seeing your hands young and clear again, you felt young and fresh again like you were years and years ago. That familiar voice sprung from behind you.
“F/N?”
Will they tell your story?
Time..
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?
Erwin.
Smiling with tears brimming at your eyes you ran into the blonde's arms seeing as he looked to have gotten his missing arm back. Smiling greatly and chuckling inwardly he enveloped you in a comforting hug as you sobbed happily.
“F/N!”
Hanji!
Almost being tackled to the ground Hanji seemed young again, she didn’t have a patch over her eye and she was as lively as ever. She cried out taking you into a hug away from Erwin as he smiled at you both.
Time
Will they tell your story?
Time
You had cried while meeting all your dear friends again, even Levi squad had taken you in for a massive group hug along with tears of joy. Everyone was ecstatic to see you again as you were all in your younger and healthy forms. Scouting uniforms clean and neat along with your own.
You had noticed your son walking towards you with a gentle smile tugging on his thin lips, he was so much like his father... Except for your E/C orbs of course. Running to him you felt Alexander chuckle as you cried into his shoulder.
“Welcome home mom.. I’m so proud of what you’ve done.. We all are..”
“I’ve missed you so much.. I’ve missed you all so much!”
You kept hugging him and crying into his shoulder as your son patted your back cooing at you, your friends have been there watching over you your whole life?
“Someone wants to meet you mom..” Alexander gestured behind you with that signature smirk of his.
You turned around and you saw the man you’ve kept fighting for.
Levi Ackerman...
Tears now streaming down your face you stepped forward with wide eyes as Levi gave you a gentle smile and held his arms out to you. “Welcome back love.. I couldn’t be more happy about what you’ve done..” he said as you cried out and sprinted into his arms. Wrapping your arms around his neck you cried out as Levi wrapped his arms around you and kissed you.
Who lives..
Who dies..
Who tells your story…
“I’ve told your story Levi..”
Instinct: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Happy Reading :)
as always any comments welcome.
“Is that really a good idea commander?” You said hesitantly across a basic wooden table. The meeting was taking place at the soldier training ground base within an uninhabited area within wall Rose. Erwin sat as cool as anything his face revealing nothing.
“What’s Levi said?” He replied with nothing but a blank stare.
“He doesn’t know does he?” The chill seeping in through the wooden building only frosted the situation even more.
“No Y/N, he doesn’t, but I deem this necessary; I feel it’s imperative that you re-join the special op’s squad during such crucial times. I’m aware you and Levi had your differences when you were both training.”
“Differences?” You interrupted
“The guy couldn’t cope with that I saved his life and became a jerk towards me” Erwin went to speak you raised your hand, shunning him.
“I know it was when he was a lot more hot headed, my concern is the constant reminder of the consequences I know him and I know he’ll have blamed himself” you said more calmly. You stood up flinging your brown mid length jacket over your cold shoulder and headed to the door with Erwin soon following
“But of course I’ll assist you”.
The ride to the temporary survey corps base of operations was a few hours out. During which Erwin filled you in on recent events. The corps have recently acquired the custody of Eren Yeager the titan shifter to test his abilities.
“I bet Hanji can’t contain her excitement” you chuckled
“You have no idea” Erwin smiled.
“I have come up with ploy” you smiled and half suppressed a laugh. He waited patiently for you to explain yourself
“So what is it you need my assistance for?” you inquired.
Please tell me straight
“I apologise Commander, you and your secret schemes” He accepted the comment. .
“Glad to see your sense of humour hasn’t changed, I did worry your personality would reconstruct after what happened. If it’s not too impolite how did everything heal?” He looked apologetic, as is feeling some responsibility for his once star mentee. Unwanted memories swamped your mind, which you shoved back behind your own walls that you'd fortified. The crunching of the gravel beneath the wheels and hooves grew louder with the silence bringing you back to the present.
You stood, hunching in the cart; the rocks on the path challenged You to keep your balance. Braces pinged off your shoulder, shirt pulled up from your waistband revealing your left side. It was heavily scarred in a half moon crescent; the scar ran under your ribs to mid-thigh. You'd long become comfortable with the disfigurement. You redressed and sat back down opposite him
“He was never the same after...you know”
Was it pity that had crept across his face?,
if it was it disappeared quickly, his eyes showed nothing but admiration.
“I doubt anyone would be” you agreed confidently.
“I think it was the turning point, from that point onward he stopped questioning orders and became nothing but professional in the field; he never forgave himself.”
This knocked you back, a strike funnelling the breath out of you. The sorrow you felt for him grew. You'd forgiven him even though sometimes anger was a challenge to control.
God damn trauma
“Well if all it would have taken was a broken rib cage, pelvis and 6 months recovery for him to be put on a better path, it should have happened sooner” you toyed. Erwin clearly didn’t reciprocate your dry humour and you felt like a scolded child under his glare.
“I want you to work alongside Levi to help prepare new recruits as you see fit for the tasks ahead and even go as far as mentoring the kids like you did with Levi” His determination and confidence in you was absolute not faltered over the years of no contact.
“You mentored Levi Commander, I was only his peer and besides my patience and temper isn’t as it was Commander. Mental healing wasn’t as complete as the physical” you corrected and confessed
“That may be so, but you challenged him on a level no one else could; we learn and grow a lot from the people around us”.
//
It was almost dusk when you arrived; nostalgia and memories gripped you forming an uneasy feeling of home as you arrived at the castle. The horse shed only housed a couple of horses grazing on the ground beneath then
“The others must have yet to return with the new recruits” Erwin stated. The large grey stone building stood here breaking up the bare grassland around it, even as the light faded away the vibrant green of the leaves entwined within the concrete blocks were illuminated by the orangey glow of the torches above the large archway before you. A few of the windows across the three floors mimicked this amber glow. Erwin joined me in staring up at the building
“We’ve not used this place since your training years, rather fitting don’t you think?” He did not turn to face you and remained staring up above the castle and into the stars.
“It suits our requirements perfectly”
“I suppose so yes” I you replied.
“So how long has he been cleaning today” you smiled, indicating with your head to the open window filled with sweeping sounds. “Long enough, pick any room on the third floor, best not to disturb him tonight” responding with a strong willed salute and made your way through the draughty bare corridors of your temporary home.
The room was as you would expect for field op’s; as basic as you could get. The room had clearly been left spotless in Levi’s wake. The bed was meticulously made not a crease in sight, the floor was as clean as the grubby stained floorboards would allow. You placed your ODM gear centrally on the table in the corner of the room along with your bag. You peered out the window to the forest not too far ahead where the training circuits are. The weak smile on your face dipped slowly into disappointment; it had been such a long time since you'd just let go and glided through the tree’s without having to demonstrate or slow down.
Thinking ahead to tomorrow your face quickly brightened as you undressed down to your underwear and crawled into bed. You snuffed out the dancing candle flame on the bedside table. Already reveling in the thought of getting up extra early to go to the circuit before anyone else even stirred.
Please don’t go out with someone else.
Synopsis: How did squad leader mom met the captain and how they got together.
MASTERLIST; ASK (request or anything else)
Your brother and Wylan, your childhood friend, always wanted to join the training corps. As you were only a year younger than them, you grew up with them constantly talking about joining the military – naturally, you wanted to join the military too. Your parents tried to talk the three of you out of this, but it was useless. Wylan always wanted to see what was outside the walls, therefore he knew he wanted to join the survey corps. Your brother tried to talk him out of this, but Wylan was stubborn.
When you finally reached the appropriate age to join the survey corps, you were beyond excited. Your brother and Wylan both waited another year so you could all join together.
“This is going to be so fun!” Wylan shouted the first day.
Out of the three of you, your brother was the best one – he was a great fighter, he was great with the gear and he was very obedient as well. Wylan was doing great – nothing exceptional but he could easily make into the top ten.
“At this rate, I’m sure the three of us will end up in the top ten and you know what that means?” your brother asked, “we could all move inside of wall Sina, and have a nice and peaceful life.”
“I don’t want to be part of the military police.” Wylan stated, “I’m joining the survey corps, no matter what happens.”
“Why would you do this?” your brother yelled. “Wylan, I didn’t want to bring this up but your parents –.”
“Yes, I know what happened to them.” Wylan argued. “I know they sacrificed themselves outside, they were both soldiers and having a kid was clearly a bad choice. That doesn’t mean I won’t join the survey corps too.” Wylan paused a second, “You think I’m stupid for wanting this.”
“No. It’s just that I want to grow old with you beside me.” your brother admitted. “And with you being in the survey corps, that won’t be possible.”
“I could visit –.” Wylan started.
“That won’t be possible because you might die outside!” your brother then looked at you, “you’re coming with me, right?”
“I might no be able to do that. None of us will if we’re not in the top ten.” you hesitated.
That night, before going to bed, Jesper, your brother, pulled you on the side so he could talk to you alone.
“Don’t mess up with tests tomorrow.” he told you.
“What?”
“I know you’re capable of doing the bare minimum, so you won’t have to choose. If you want to join the survey corps too, I…” he took a deep breath, “please take care of Wylan for me.”
“You could come with us.” you suggested. “You’re amazing, better than anyone else here, so why don’t you want to?”
“I don’t want to. I don’t want to know what it feels like to be in front of a titan and knowing that they’ll eat me when I can be safe inside.” Jesper worried.
“Please go talk to Wylan, I don’t want you two to fight. You’re both choosing different paths and you know, it’s ok.”
“Yeah. I should apologise.”
“Also, I will try my best to keep him safe outside.”
“Thank you.” Jesper smiled before leaving.
Without surprise, Jesper ended up being ranked first while you were third and Wylan fourth. Amongst the top ten, there was only you and Wylan who did not choose the military police. Before leaving, Jesper came to see you both to tell you goodbye.
“I’m going to miss you.” Wylan told Jesper.
“I’m going to miss you too.” Jesper held Wylan’s hand tightly.
“Great,” you added smiling, “I mean, great to know I’ll be missed too.”
“I’m going to miss you too.” your brother smiled before hugging you.
“Yeah, anyway I’ll leave first because I feel like a third wheel here. I’ll see you later.”
When you finally arrived at the survey corps headquarters, you had a few hours to clean your clothes into your dorm before meeting everyone else on the training grounds to meet your future squad leader. You were beyond relieved when you found out Wylan and you were in the same squad because making friends was not your specialty.
“Hi, I’m Erwin. I’m your squad leader.”
“You’re really young.” you commented which resulted in Wylan punching you softly.
“I’m sorry, sir.” Wylan apologised.
“No, it’s fine. I worked hard for this post and I am proud of it.”
Later that day, you both met Hange.
“Really nice to meet you. I heard you two ranked top ten.” Hange said. “You won’t regret your choice, I’m sure it’ll be fun!”
“I’m Wylan, and this is Y/N.”
That night, you all drank and ate together – that is how you became friend with Hange, Mike, Erwin – your squad leader – and many other comrades.
Your first expedition took place a month after your arrival – it started great. There were only a few titans. Unfortunately, after a few days, it started to rain. At first, it was fine but when it turned out to be an enormous storm – it started to worry everyone.
The order was to stay close to each other so no one would get lost. When the storm finally calmed down – you looked around and noticed a lot of missing people.
“Where – Where’s Wylan?” you asked loudly.
“Y/N,” Erwin held you back, “he might be with another squad somewhere else.”
“No,” you mumbled panicked, “he – he was just behind me. He should be here too!”
You walked away and sat down somewhere calm, hoping for Wylan to show up. The remaining squads arrived one after the another, each one missing some of their soldiers.
“Y/N, the commander arrived,” Hange said quietly, “let’s go.”
The expedition just started which meant that it had to continue. A few hours passed, and as you followed Erwin on your horse you noticed a few bodies sitting under a tree on your left.
“Squad leader Erwin,” you hesitated, “look.” you pointed at where the bodies were.
Erwin and the rest of the squad run to them. You pushed them aside when you saw Wylan was one of the injured soldiers.
“Wylan!” you sobbed, “Hey, it’s me.”
“Hey.” Wylan choked, “I’m… glad… you’re alive.”
“You are too.” you cried.
“I’m sor–.”
“No, it’s ok, we’re going to be fine.” you tried to hold your tears back.
“Tell him… I love him…” Wylan took a deep breath, “ok?”
“Ok. I’m sure he knows and that he loves you very much too.”
“Good.” Wylan smiled weakly, “thank you… for coming back...”
You stayed with Wylan until he passed away – then, the soldiers’ bodies were all put in the cart and as the cart went back inside the walls, you had to continue.
When the expedition finally ended, you headed straight to Wylan dorm so you could clean his clothes and other belongings. You sent a letter to your family and Jesper so they could come for the funeral the survey corps organised for all the loses.
“I’m so sorry.” you cried when you saw Jesper again. “When I – he was…”
“It’s ok.” Jesper hugged you. “It’s ok.” he repeated.
Your parents brought flowers with them – in front of Wylan tomb, there were only the four of you.
“I’m going to bring his things.” you said, “can you guys help me?” you asked your parents so Jesper could have some privacy with Wylan.
You had put everything in a small bag, except for Wylan cloak which you decided to keep. Everything else was giving to Jesper. Before leaving, Jesper spent some time with you in your empty dorm.
“Did you… did he said anything before…”
“He told me to tell you that he loves you.” you whispered.
You both stayed together, in complete silence before he got up and had to leave. You reluctantly walked to the mess hall for dinner and sat with Hange. They smiled at you and you both ate in silence too – no one really wanted to talk.
Years went by and at the age of twenty-four, you became a squad leader. Hange had been promoted a few years before you – everything was going great. Then, one day, Erwin brought in three new recruits from the Underground. After commander Shadis put them in Flagon’s squad, you left with Hange et Erwin.
“What did you do?” you asked Erwin once you three were alone. “Why would you bring three thugs from the underground here?”
“They could be an asset to the survey corps. You should go and see them fight.”
“They have zero experience; they had no training. Just look at how disrespectful they are!”
“They are better than some of us at using the gear with no training.” Erwin corrected you.
“We’ll pay them a visit later.” Hange said.
“Great.” Erwin smiled before leaving.
“I don’t want to.” you told Hange.
“Oh, come on, please come with me!”
On their first day of training, you and Hange joined Flagon. You were all talking waiting for them to arrive, but after ten minutes of waiting, you volunteered to go and look for them. The first place you went for was the changing room with all the gear you used.
“You’re late.” you stated when you saw Isabel still with her gear undone.
“Sorry.”
“Well, hurry. Also, where are your two other friends?” you asked, “doesn’t matter, I’ll go look for them.”
“Wait.” Isabel stopped you, “This gear is a little different from what we used. I don’t know how to put it on correctly, no one told me.”
You turned around and slowly walked to her and explained to her how to put it on easily and quickly. When Isabel was done, you both walked out, and her friends were waiting for her outside.
“Next time try to be on time.” you told them when you walked out.
“Sorry miss.” Furlan apologised.
“It’s squad leader Y/N.” you corrected him harshly.
When you joined Flagon, he was fuming – screaming that they were irresponsible for making him wait that long and that they should just go back to where they came. When they started to kill the wooden titans, you were all speechless.
“Oh my!” you shouted impressed, “Erwin was right.”
“I wouldn’t have mind having them with me.” Hange stated impressed as well. “Flagon, you’re lucky as hell.”
Flagon ignored you and left to talk to them while you and Hange were talking about how good they were.
“Levi’s the most impressive right?” Hange said.
“Hell yeah!” you agreed. “Now I just want to see them in front of real titans. Act cool.” you told Hange when you saw them coming back.
“You were awesome!” Hange shouted, “Even more because you didn’t receive any training. Right Y/N.”
“You were great, yeah.” you commented calmly.
The next expedition was announced a few days later – it would take place in a month and half. Isabel and you became quite close since you were in charge of teaching them how to ride the horses – Flagon traded with you. While you would do his work, he will do some of your paperwork.
Furlan was polite and nice – he was making a lot of effort to blend in like Isabel. The only one who did not try was Levi. You tried to talk to him multiple times, but he would never answer you.
“Oh right,” you said before they would leave, “this weekend you’re allowed to leave the headquarters so you can visit family or just walk around the market. If you don’t want to leave, I can bring things for you if you’d like.”
“Can you bring back some of the cake you had last time?” Isabel asked referring to the cake your mom had baked.
“I’d like that too.” Furlan smiled.
“Sure, I’ll send a letter to my mom. What about you Levi?”
“Bring me some tea. And not the one you have here because it’s disgusting.” Levi said.
“Tea? Ok, I can do that.” you smiled, “you know it’s the first time you ever said anything to me.” you laughed before leaving.
You went back to your room to write your letter asking your mother to bake some cake and gather some tea leaves. While you were in your room, the trio went to their usual spot in the roof.
“I like Y/N,” Isabel started, “she’s nice.”
“Weirdly nice to us,” Levi said, “you didn’t tell her anything right?”
“I didn’t!”
“I don’t understand why she is that nice though.” Furlan added. “She didn’t seem to like us at first.”
“She changed her mind, she got to know us better –.” Isabel defended you.
“We’re leaving soon so it doesn’t matter.” Levi said.
Two years ago, your parents had the chance to move inside of wall Sina thanks to their business growing. You left Friday night to your parent’s house. Jesper was the one who came to take you home.
Saturday morning, Levi found it odd that you were with them – because you would always greet them in the morning. They did not know that you left earlier the day before. Hange and Erwin noticed how Levi was looking around and staring at every new person entering the mess hall.
“You should go and tell him that she’s not here.” Hange told Erwin.
“You go.” Erwin said.
“Fine.” Hange went to their table. “Hi. I noticed how you were looking for Y/N… I think.” Hange told Levi.
“I wasn’t.”
“Oh, then never mind.”
“But now that you’re here, where is she?” Levi asked.
“She went home last night. She’ll be back in three days. No need to worry.”
“I wasn’t.”
Levi hated himself for missing you – he tried to convince himself that he wanted to see you because you promised him tea, but deep down, he missed your calm and joyful presence. You had a lot of baskets full of food your mother prepared which meant your brother had to come and help with it.
“Where is there a short man glaring at me like that?” Jesper told when you left the carriage.
“What?” you asked him confused.
Jesper discreetly nodded towards Levi.
“I don’t know.” you said.
“Well, I’m leaving you here.” Jesper said going back into the carriage. “You’re good, right?”
“Yes, I’ll see you soon, bye!” you hugged him one last time before he left.
There were in total five big baskets of food – you tried to take them all at once for more efficiency, but it was a failure. Levi from behind took three of them seeing you struggling.
“Thank you.” you smiled, “we should just put them in my room.”
You walked in silence to your room and once Levi put everything on your desk – he started to leave but you stopped him by grabbing his sleeve.
“You forgot your tea.” you let go of his sleeve. “Oh, I also brought you this tea set, because the one we have here is really old.” you explained as you gave him an entire basket. “There’s also Furlan and Isabel’s food in there.”
“Thank you.” Levi whispered before leaving.
Two days after you came back, Levi stormed in your room at night as you were ready to go to bed. When Levi saw you in a simple tee shirt and some short, he immediately left your room. You slowly opened your door only to find Levi still outside of your room.
“Are you ok?” you asked worried.
“Yes.” Levi blushed slightly. “Your mother, I don’t know how she organised her tea. I need your help.”
“Oh, okay,” you nodded, “let’s go then.” you closed your door.
“Are you not going to put on more clothes?” Levi asked you, “because it’s cold.”
When you noticed how Levi still would not look into your eyes, you decided it would be better to put on a long jacket.
You followed him to the kitchen, where he had prepared two cups and some water and every tea flavour your mother had packed.
“Each colour of bags represents a flavour,” you explained, “Mh, I thought she wrote on it which flavour it was, but I think with time she just stopped writing it – because she knew. What flavour you want to drink now?”
“You choose.”
“I like green tea, but it’s late in the night now so we should try something else. Like chamomile.” you thought.
Levi poured hot water into the teapot and you waited five minutes before pouring some into the cups. You sat in front of each other at the nearest table to the kitchen and drank in silence.
“Why are you staring at me?” Levi asked drinking his tea.
“I always like to look at pretty flowers and pretty things in general,” you said which made Levi raise his eyebrows, “that’s why I was staring at you.” you completed your sentence smiling.
Levi felt his cheeks getting hotter – he was speechless. No one ever before complimented him, ever so that was new. Meaning, he did not know how to answer.
“Are you okay?” you asked him, “you’re really red. Oh no, is it because of the tea?” you reached out your hands to touch his face. “Are you having a fever?” you worried.
“No, I’m fine.” Levi took your hands and put them on the table but did not let go of them. “Your hands are soft.” Levi said.
“Your hands are warm.” you smiled squeezing his hands softly.
You were both looking at each other when suddenly the door opened on Isabel and Furlan which made Levi back away from you.
“Oh, sorry.” Isabel said, “did we interrupt something?”
“No.” Levi said. “I’ll meet you in ten minutes.”
“Ok.” Furlan left with Isabel.
“You can go, I’ll clean this up.” Levi started to gather the cups and teapot.
“Ok, I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
Neither you nor Levi slept that night – it was not unusual for Levi, but for you it was. You could not stop thinking about what happened before Isabel and Furlan came in and neither could Levi.
After that, Levi would often make small talk with you when you were alone. He would often call you to drink tea with him before you went to bed. Then, a few days before their first expedition, Levi started to avoid you more and more which you did not find odd – it might be stress about the expedition. You were busy with your squad and paperwork. The day of the expedition, you went to see Levi because it had been a while.
“I’ll probably see you during the expedition though, but I wanted to see you before leaving. Good luck out there even though I know you don’t need it.”
Your squad was next to Hange’s and the expedition started. The few years after Wylan’s passing, every time it rained during an expedition you would start to panic and not be as useful as you would usually be. Surprisingly, the survey corps never experienced another storm during an expedition – it always happened before or after it. Therefore, when it started to rain heavily you started to be worried.
“Y/N,” Hange called you, “it’s ok.”
“Yeah.” you whispered, “no one walk away from me.” you ordered to your squad.
As the storm started, Hange’s squad and yours took shelter on high trees leaving your horses under you.
“Are you ok?” Hange asked you.
“Yes. It’s going to calm down soon, and it’ll be good.”
When the storm calmed down, Erwin’s squad passed on your way, so you joined them. After assuring him that no one was injured, you continued to ride on your horse. Erwin, Hange and you were leading the way, but very soon you stopped when you noticed all the blood on the ground.
“Wha – what happened?” you trembled. “Wh – who’s squad…” you got off your horse.
“That’s… the steam from the fallen titans.” Erwin said. “Are there any survivors out there?” Erwin yelled.
When you all approached the steam, you found Levi on his knees next to someone’s head which made you look away.
“Are you the only one left?” Erwin asked, “The corpses of these titans… you did this alone…?”
Levi stared at Erwin before tackling Erwin down of his horse. Mike, Hange and you took out your blades ready to defend Erwin, but he ordered us to stay back. Levi put his blade next to Erwin’s neck before speaking.
“Erwin, I’m going to kill you, you bastard. That’s why I’m here.”
Erwin showed Levi the envelope he kept on him and explained to him what happened.
“Why did you bring us into the corps?”
“Your military prowess…” Erwin started, “And to use you as partners to throw off Lovof…but now, it’s all over.”
Levi pushed on his blade, but Erwin stopped it with his hand.
“Who’s the one that killed my subordinates, your friends. Was it me? Was it you? Do you think that if you had come to attack me together that the two of them would have made it out alive?” Erwin asked, “No! It was the titans!”
Everyone else listened to Erwin’s speech including Levi.
“Fight with the survey corps Levi. Humanity needs your skill!”
The end of that expedition came sooner than you thought. You made sure that your squad members were doing ok then you went back to your room to clean up. You made sure to write a letter to your brother first so he would know that you were still alive and then you decided to go check on Levi.
“Levi?” you knocked on his door, but no one answered. “If you need to talk, I’m here.”
For the next few days, Levi rarely went out of his room. Furlan and him were the only ones sleeping there – meaning no one could bother him. A week after the end of the expedition, Levi came to your room one night.
“Levi.” you put your book down.
“You said… I could talk to you.”
“Of course, you can.” you sat on your bed. “I’m sorry for your loss.” you added as you saw Levi pacing around your room.
“I can’t…I don’t know what to do.” Levi sat next to you. “Whenever someone knocks on my door, I keep hoping it would be one of them.”
“I know…” you paused, “after that, you’ll feel anger.” you hesitated, “Then comes the guilt, thinking what if I was quicker or what if I made a different choice… maybe I could’ve helped. After that, you’ll feel sad. Eventually, it won’t hurt as much as it used to, to talk about them. It’ll get better.”
“How do you know it will get better?”
“It is terrible, but this probably won’t be your last loss. And I –… I lost my best friend a long time ago. It was our first expedition too…”
Levi and you were lying on your bed in silence.
“I can’t sleep.” Levi admitted. “It’s getting lonely in that room.”
“I can stay with you if you want.” you yawned.
“Sorry, I’m keeping you from sleeping – I’ll go.” Levi stood up but you held his hand.
“You can stay here. I don’t mind.” you looked at Levi.
You moved on the inner side of your bed so Levi could lay next to you. Levi did not let go of your hand when he laid down on your bed.
“Goodnight Levi.” you said before falling asleep very quickly.
“Goodnight Y/N.” Levi whispered looking at you.
Levi found himself getting sleepier and when he closed his eyes – for the first time in a long time – he fell asleep without any difficulty. In the middle of the night, you woke up feeling thirsty and noticed that Levi was sleeping. He was still holding your hand which made it impossible for you to get up.
You always have a glass of water ready next to your bed, but you were on the wrong side of the bed. You got up and tried not to wake Levi up or letting go of his hand and drank your water. When you went back to bed, Levi finally let go of your hand and turned on his side – his back against you. You took a deep breath before wrapping your arms around Levi.
Levi was the first one to wake up. You were clinging tightly around Levi which made it impossible for him to move without waking you up.
“Mh, morning.” you mumbled when you woke up.
“Morning.”
“Did you sleep well?” you asked still holding onto Levi.
“Yes, thanks to you.”
“We could do this every night…” you said. “if you want, because…” your cheeks started to heat up.
“Yeah.” Levi breathed.
After a few minutes of staying in bed, you both got up and brushed your teeth and changed into new clothes. You arrived together in the mess hall and when you saw Levi going to eat alone, you held his shirt back.
“Come eat with us.” you pointed at your usual table with Hange, Mike and Erwin.
“No, it’s fine.”
“They don’t mind.” you looked at your friends, “right?”
“We don’t.” Erwin smiled.
You sat next to Levi and while he ate in silence, you were chatting with everyone. Your friends noticed how Levi and you became a lot closer since that day:
- Levi would often finish eating first, instead of leaving he waited for you to finish eating.
- You would always come in together in the morning.
- You would always leave together at night.
- According to Mike, Levi smelled like you – logic since he slept in your room with you.
“Are they together?” Hange once asked.
“They have to be.” Nanaba said. “Right?”
“Should we ask them?” Hange said.
“You ask them.” Mike suggested.
“No thanks. Oh, here they come,” Hange said, “act natural.”
Everyone suspected you two to be together, but neither Levi nor you said anything about it. Levi and you both had feelings for each other, but no one was brave enough to make the first step. You acted like a couple without really being one.
Two months after this, Jesper paid you a visit which made Levi confused. He did not know Jesper was your brother meaning he thought you were going on a date with someone. At night when you came back, Levi took you to your room.
“I like you.” Levi suddenly admitted. “Please don’t go out with someone else.”
“I – I like you too. A lot.” you smiled.
“So… who was that man?”
“Jesper? He’s my brother!”
“Oh.” Levi looked away embarrassed.
“So, are we a couple now?”
“I’d like that.”
“Me too.”
Summary: Summary: An unwelcome(ish) blast from the Captain’s trainee days comes back to the Scouting Regiment and old habits die hard.Levi X Reader
Instinct: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Words:1959
Warnings:Swearing. No Smut...Yet.
The birds chirped you back to consciousness at the crack of dawn. You wearily rolled out of bed struggling to adjust to the light which pierced through the slit in the curtains. You dressed with growing enthusiasm for the day which ended with you restraining yourself from running down the corridors, eager to have the drowsy sun touch your skin.
The air outside was brisk nipping at your skin pulling goose-bumps to the surface. The wind was deathly calm which was a perfect condition for your ODM private time. You excitedly jogged across the grassy area until you were close enough to deploy your hooks, propelling you through the threshold of the forest. The sound of the gas releasing incites a deep calmness within you. The wooded titans where still where they used to be, smirk radiating of your face blindingly. You spun yourself into a graceful turn pulling your blades from their holster and sliced through the pads at the practice titan’s nape; cutting as smoothly as it ever did, you landed strongly distributing your weight evenly through your legs.
Looking up from your superhero like landing you saw a blur of figures making their way in your direction. Within moments you could make out faces, an interesting concoction of determination, excitement and responsibility. Though familiar from around the training camp many were still nameless to you. Erwin was walking sternly behind them herding his flock to graze. He was conversing with the unmistakable frame and stature of Levi. Gaining your breath back calming the rush of your heart battering in your chest and downgraded your ecstatic grin smile to avoid looking crazily keen.
"Everyone this is Corporal Y/LN" Erwin paused giving you free reign of the introduction of yourself.
"Nice to finally meet you all, Erwin has filled me in great detail about all of you and your talents. I have been brought in to assist Captain Levi with training and fully inducting you into the scout regiment. You may not have met me but the training you have just completed was devised and structured by myself, Training Commander Shadis reports directly to me.” You paused for a beat “Make no mistake, do not think of this as an advanced class, a mistake in the scouts will most likely cost you or your comrade’s life in the most painful fashion so be sure to pay attention” You were sure you noticed Levi’s mouth twitch up at the side. You were never one to mince words; it was one of the reasons you and Levi clicked so well in the first place.
“Wait a minute are you THE Corporal Y/LN” a small blonde boy with choppy hair asked. The others looked at him puzzle pieces not fitting in their minds.
“I am a Corporal Y/LN” you responded sarcastically.
“You are aren’t you” he continued, he turned to face the others who’d chucked the puzzle on the floor in confusion.
“Y/N was a member of the scout regiment before the walls were breached, she was one of three survivors after a training mission outside the walls went terribly wrong. She was the youngest recipient of the medal of bravery; she risked her life so the others remaining could escape. In doing so she was nearly devoured by a titan and sustained heavy injuries to her left side where she was bitten; one of the squad managed to save her just in time.” The groups’ blank faces turned back to you with a look of shock and awe before looking back to the blonde boy. I stole a glance at the commander who seemed happy to approve. Without even looking Levi you knew his eyes had shot down with regret, his dark hair attempting to hide his face as it drooped in front of his face. With that said he maintained his closed off cold stance with his arms crossed.
“Yes that is me, thank you for that mini biography, I’m guessing your Armin Arlert?” Erwin mentioned a boy gifted with knowledge and tactical insights.
“Yes ma’am” he saluted sincerely, his fists growing white with the respect he was holding.
“Oooo can we see your scars?” A tall dark haired girl bundled over in front of me tripping over her own feet. A unanimous giggle hummed through the other recruits before dying down as quickly as it had started. You helped her to her feet, her cheeks had flushed with a red haze “You must be Sasha Braus” you guessed.
“You brats aren’t here for a show or to gossip, get on that course and get warmed up otherwise you’ll end up titan food quicker than that one can eat a potato!” he motioned to Sasha with his dark eyes, the red flush on her cheeks only glowed brighter. All of them propelled their anchors and deployed panicked “Sir” they all shouted in almost perfect synchronicity; the fear of Levi already instilled.
“Well I can see you guys have this handled and won’t have any issues getting them in order, I’ll be with Hanji if you need me” And with that he turned and left, leaving you on your own with him.
“I knew that bastard was up to something” Levi blurted out, you couldn’t distinguish if he was talking to you or whether it was just a statement to himself.
“Isn’t he always” you responded anyway. He half chuckled and then all conversation was dead in the water, silence had never been awkward between you and to your surprise it still wasn’t. You knew there was a whole typhoon of unspoken words but you were going to ride out the calm before the storm happily.
“Eren balance your weight!” you shouted up as he’d terribly misjudged an anchor point and landed on the floor with a crash.
“Why don’t you come and do this!” Eren screamed his face crumpled with frustration; as soon as the word left his mouth his eyed widened in horror realising the huge disrespect of his outburst. “I’m sorry Corporal I didn’t mean to.. I” You halted his next words with a raised hand. Amusingly his eyes let go of yours and travelled over to Levi and the fear really blossomed in his glossy eyes.
“So you want me to show you I’m worth taking orders from ey?” you challenged “Captain fancy showing these guys how it’s done?” you asked hoping to bring some conversation back between you.
“I don’t need to show the brats a thing, I’d say you probably need the practice” he quipped. Asshole the cheek of it, you now had a huge point to prove and you would shove it in his face.
“Fine” almost sulkily “Everyone up on a branch and watch”.
When you landed the trainees mouths had all formed a large O shape, even Levi’s eyebrows had moved to a raised position.
“In future DO NOT doubt your superiors, trust is paramount within your squad. Now go again!” you barked. You jumped down over to the tree where Levi was leant. The sound of gas canisters and camaraderie filled the vacuum of silence.
“That wasn’t half bad” Levi spoke, face still glaring forward at the trainees.
“Half bad?” you exclaimed insulted “I’d say matched your time twinkle toes” you toyed. His reaction was instant, you was thrust back harshly against the tree bark scraping down your spine. His hand was constricting your throat
“I hate that name even more now, let’s leave that nickname in the past shall we?” he seethed that old familiar temper filtering through his pupils. Air flooded back through your airways as he released you and you dropped to the floor when your legs forgot to hold you. You could feel curious eyes burn into you both. What was the need for that, your familiar anger frothed and you flung yourself up at Levi and struck him square in the face and took his feet out from under him only to catch his hand and stop him from falling
“Come on Levi you know I best you at hand to hand, don’t you ever raise a hand to me again!” you managed as calm as you could. Remorse flooded his face, you was the only one who ever really got under his skin enough to provoke any real emotional response. You stomped off, your point proven. Using your old nickname for him obviously struck a chord; maybe burial of the past training days you thought as you heard him shouting at the others.
“Show’s over brats! Go and get yourself disgusting selves cleaned up and head to lunch”
You hurriedly stripped down when you got to your room and changed into just black trousers and white blouse, your ODM Gear was chucked half delicately onto the bed. Checking yourself in the bathroom mirror; most of your h/c hair had trickled out of your headband and lightly clung to your skin, you yanked all hairbands out causing them to pinch at your skin when they pinged back into your hand. Despite everything you’d faced your face naturally seemed bright and younger than it should have.
There was a gentle tap at the door.
“It’s open!” you said loudly while still remaining polite, you leaned back to see Levi walking in and closing the door behind him. His eyes quickly scanned the room judging the cleanliness obsessively. “How can I help you Captain?” you made no attempt to camouflage the disapproval of his visit in your voice. He’d lost his brown short jacket but had not taken of the binding black ODMG leather harness which was still wrapped snugly round his waist and legs. It always impressed you how flawlessly his undercut was always clippered. You joined him in the main room to him staring out of the window.
“I thought I’d come and try to resolve our little…. altercation”
“So you’ve come to apologise?” you paused “I thought that sort of thing was benea…” Mid sentence you was pushed against the wall, his body crashing to yours, his hands snaked on the side of your face. He quickly had his tongue undulating with yours silencing you before lavishing his lips attention onto your neck. This wind of surprise carried you away, breezing straight down your spine to your core, it felt exactly like you remember.
“The fuck Levi” you exclaimed breathless, thankful your better judgement stepped in and stopped your desire from growing into an uncontrollable gust. You rebuffed him away
“That may have been how we resolved our differences when we were training but not now!” you couldn’t believe the audacity of him you told yourself trying to drown the re-emerging memories of how he felt against your skin. “So you’re telling me that you don’t want to fuck like the old days?” he retorted. You did now, your body was more than happy to oblige.
“Exactly, the old days. It was too intense, for the both of us, we got attached.”
“That was an oversight I’ll admit” he mumbled nonchalantly.
“Jesus Levi, an oversight? People died because you disobeyed an order because of ‘our oversight’. I guess now it wouldn’t be a problem because you’re such a stoic bastard” your voice was louder now correlating with your anger.
“I’m going to grab my rations and you better not be here when I get back” Just as you reach the threshold of your room
“You were all I could find comfort in this fucked up world and the only thing I wanted to make sense of” he blurted out. “I know it was the same for you” he added louder as you’d increased the distance between you. Did he just briefly open up you? “Shit” you breathed quietly to yourself knowing he wasn’t wrong.
