"You're home,"

A warm chill soothed in the air: the jingle of keys, the rustling of leaves from open windows, the scent of sweat and blood. Home, they say, is not a house, nor just someplace you sleep in; that's why a house cannot always be a home, or a home cannot always be just a house.

"I always come home."

Dazai Osamu - is an er, friend of yours? In the rise and fall of Yokohama's chest, laid bustling streets where crime inhabits each corner, each alleyway. And well, your 'friend' did contribute to that factor, but you digress.

"Home, as in, my house?" you ask casually, a smile tugging on your lips. Dazai chuckles, taking off his workshoes on at the doorstep before gently pinching on your cheek. "Anything's better than that shipping container." he feigns a sigh, watching as your face contorts in confusion as blood from his thumb smudges on your cheek. "Ah," the teenage boy lets out a breathy giggle, "sorry." Dazai wipes the blood again with his thumb, smearing the imprint across your skin.

"So, what happened to you, Mr. Mafia?" you snicker, Dazai's black overcoat rested somewhere on the clean flooring of your apartment. Currently changing his bandages, washing some blood off here and there. "Well, I bet you can guess." he exhales, bringing a bandaged hand to ruffle the brown locks in between his hair.

"I wonder why you get hurt so much," you grumble softly, gently unbandaging the guaze secured around his neck, arms, well, his everything. "I wonder that too, huh?" Dazai swiftly repeats, "Why are you repeating everything i say?" you cock a brow, wiping some blood from his shoulder suspiciously. "No I'm not," the brunette looks at you mock-offendedly, "Yeah you are."

There are times where being friends with a mafioso was well, challenging. Dazai of all people, is one of, if not the most challenging criminal you've encountered. And if he actually lived a normal life, he'd be sweating his ass off studying; if he needs to.

You'd think about his whereabouts: what does Dazai Osamu do in a day? who does Dazai Osamu do in a day? And why is Dazai Osamu not dead?

Ps: that's because he wants to die. You know because he told you a million times before.

You know Dazai Osamu does one thing though, he teaches. Past tense actually, he taught.

You figured out the difference between a house and a home.

Home is a tall brunette, appearing at your doorstep with shitty takeout.

Home is changing a mystery boy's suit and tie.

Home is not being able to sleep, because reality is finally better than your dreams.

Home is kissing shards of broken glass - you're bound to get hurt, but at least you were The Victim, and not The Cause.

"Well, I don't like to see you hurt, 'kay?" you smile softly, gently washing his shoulders and arms, feeling the prominent bones under his flesh. "And what is that supposed to imply, exactly?" he smiles cheekily, turning to you as you chuckle endearingly, "It means, don't-" you tap his forehead playfully, "get," tapping again, watching as the brunette laughs under his breath, "hurt, stupid." Dazai softly takes your hand in his, looking intently at the soft flesh of yours compared to the calloused, beaten knuckles of his.

"You're right, my dear," you turn away half-flushed, half-scoffing at the sudden nickname, "I'll try." the boy smiles, rubbing your knuckles gently under the pad of his bruised fingers. You chuckle in return, watching as Dazai pauses.

"Under one condition," he mutters, his bare shoulders reflecting under the returning sun, "and what's that?"

"You meet a friend of mine, he taught me a lot of things." the brunette murmurs in a hushed tone, you see the glimmer in his eyes, eyes that look lifeless most of the time, devoid of mercy, compassion. But sometimes, Dazai loses the scare, and blooms like he's seen an angel above when he looks at you. "What's their name? Are they in the mafia too?" you question, your lips tugging into a hearty smile, "Well I call him Odasaku, but his name is Oda - and he is in the mafia, but really, I think he should be an author."

"Sounds pretty drastic," you reply, Dazai hums peacefully, "but achievable." you both say in unison. "So what do you say?" the boy asks, "Will you meet him with me?" you wrap new bandages around his shoulders gently, "maybe," you murmur; the teenager rolls his eyes sassily, "c'mon, he'll like that someone is taking care of me like this." humming a soft tune, "alright, alright."

"Y'know, you mentioned he taught you a lot of things," you brought up, reapplying gauze now to his arms." Dazai looks at your with loving eyes, "mhm," he hums. "Like what?"

“Can I… try it on?” You ask, unsure of how he’s gonna respond. Mark isn’t the type to not want you wearing his clothes, actually most of the time he’s the one suggesting it, but you’ve never tried to wear his spidey suit before. 

You watch as his face turns into that smile of his that you love so much, revealing his cute cheekbones. “You wanna wear my suit?” You nod your head, hopeful for him to say yes and before you know it, he’s rummaging through one of his draws and pulls it out. “Ok, but I get to take pictures of you in it.”

You thought that it would be super hard to squeeze into, but it was surprisingly easy. It was tight, without feeling tight at all. Actually, it felt like the most comfortable thing you’ve literally ever worn before. 

“It’s nice right?” You hear Mark ask. You had asked him to turn around while you got changed but he must have noticed that you managed to get it on when you stopped moving around so much. (spidey senses). 

“I cannot believe you made this yourself, It’s genuinely incredible.” You say, checking yourself out in the mirror. You can’t see him but you know he’s blushing by your comment. “Can I um turn around now?”

“Oh, yeah.” You say, now facing him. 

You watch as his eyes focus on you and his head moves back slightly, something he always does when he’s surprised. “Wait, you actually look so cute.”

“What do you mean actually? You weren't expecting me to look good in it?” You say playfully, crossing your arms.

“No, no '' he says, his voice cracking. “I just meant like, when I wear it it’s super intimidating and cool looking. But somehow you just look adorable.” He says, walking towards you. 

You give him the sternest look you could muster. “I’m intimidating too.” 

“Right right.” He says as he cups your cheeks in his hand, pulling you in to kiss you, “I definitely wouldn’t want you as my enemy.”

“Exactly.” You kiss him back until Mark starts to laugh. “What?”

“Nothing, it just feels funny. Like I’m kissing myself.” You let out a laugh too because of course he would say that.

“Maybe he knows someone who does?” While Spencer is still in his contemplation, Peter’s bouncing all over the place. He keeps getting up and sitting back down, spinning his chair in circles. He’s been tapping an uncapped pen against his jaw for the last five minutes; Spencer hasn’t noticed, and you feel like it’s probably your job as his girlfriend to tell him but neither you nor anyone else on your team wants to interrupt his thinking. “If he knew someone who worked in a lab or maybe at the university, he could have gotten it from them.” 

“But would someone really make an explosive chemical like that without asking any questions?” JJ wonders. “They had to have wondered what he was using it for.” 

Peter’s pen stops moving. He sits up in his chair. “Maybe he didn’t ask.” 

Everyone else’s brows furrow, but Spencer’s unfurrows. He looks at Peter. “We didn’t profile he had a partner, but it could be—”

“A mentor!” Peter laughs, ecstatic. “That’s the helper!” 

“Only he doesn’t know he’s helping,” Spencer agrees, getting out his phone. “When the fire department got there—”

“They poured water on the flames, decomposing it into—”

“Urea and nitric acid.” Spencer puts his phone to his ear. “Garcia, we need a list of all non-students or faculty who had access to the labs at the university. Start with family of professors, administrative staff…” 

“Hey.” You slide onto Peter’s desk, wetting your thumb when he turns to you and brushing it over his cheek. Blue ink smears across his jawline. “I’m getting the impression that you guys figured it out, but, uh, do you want to tell us what you figured?” 

Peter’s grin is half sheepish. He wraps a hand around the back of your knee, squeezing excitedly down your calf. “The reason we only found that fertilizer compound on the site of the explosion was because the original compound was this homegrown explosive, and when water hits it it separates into its original parts.” He starts talking faster as he explains, amping himself up again. “The only people who would have access to the chemicals needed to activate it are professors in the university labs, so since we profiled he doesn’t have a background in education…” 

“He’s probably getting access to the lab through the professor,” you finish. Your boyfriend grins proudly, taking your hand and kissing the inside of your wrist. Behind him, Rossi makes a face, and you retract your hand shyly, using it to smooth down the cowlick at the crown of Peter’s head. “You think the professor taught him how to combine them, too?” 

“They could’ve,” he says. “Even if someone doesn’t have a science background, professors are always excited to talk about their field. The unsub only would have had to ask a couple of questions to get them to show him.” 

You hum, nodding. “You’re a genius,” you tell him. 

Peter grins, jutting his chin towards Spencer. “That’s him. I’m just the wall he gets to bounce ideas off of.” 

“Shush,” you chide, forgoing the team’s judgment for a moment to press a kiss into his hair. He smells like his shampoo, like freshness and home, and he squeezes the back of your knee in response. “You’re both freakishly smart.” 

“Okay.” Spencer shuts his phone off. “Garcia’s narrowed it down to three, we need to bring them in for questioning.” 

“Here’s your moment,” Peter says, nudging your leg with his. “Ready to kick down some doors, sweetheart?”

first of all, he’s so enamored by you that he just wants to stare at you all the time

he also wants to make sure you know he’s paying attention to everything you’re saying, so he borderline maintains too much eye contact

he’s engaging while staring and nodding along to the conversation

like you have to remind him it’s okay to look away sometimes

2. changbin

he’s literally obsessed with you and doesn’t understand that staring someone down is socially unacceptable

he’s so transfixed by you that sometimes you can’t tell if he spaced out or if he’s just staring at you (spoiler alert: he’s just staring)

the only reason he looks away occasionally is because he gets distracted easily

3. seungmin

excellent at maintaining eye contact, but not necessarily because he wants to stare at you

he instantly sees it as like a competition of who can keep eye contact the longest (and he never loses)

borderline just trying to intimidate you with his stare at any given moment

humm.. i dont think i have any real serious complaints about the way biga writes his few female characters.. from what ive read so far, it doesnt seem as if he writes his female characters any differently than he does his male characters so theres no weird clash in motive or drive or wat have you.. compared to many other authors who only write their female characters as damsels in distress or simpering demure love interests, i really like that yu iseol and tang soso are both treated as equals to their male counterparts and that they both have important supporting roles in the story and dont have to rely on the men to save them

i like their silly quirks, like yu iseols stoicism and her fading into the background bc she has such an unobtrusive atmosphere about her (though i also read this as being sort of a way to get her out of the picture when biga doesnt feel like writing her + he can bring her into a scene at any point for plot reasons and explain away her random appearance as 'she was always there' due to this), and sosos 'violent doctor' trope is always fun to me, but despite this i fear biga does suffer from token female character syndrome.. iseolsoso are like literally the only two girls in the whole novel, with speaking roles at least cuz there are background female mount hua disciples but im not counting them

where im at in the novel currently, neither tang soso or yu iseol have really hit their "stride" yet so to speak so i cant really speak on the bigger picture but aside from some minor gripes, i like the way biga handles his female characters.. i adore them both and it really is such a breath of fresh air to see female characters written w the respect and strength they deserve, and not as stupid ass weak love interests UGH THE BAR IS SO LOWWWW
