TW: Abuse "you're such a cutie patootie! I am so happy that we saved you from this terribleness that you've been going through" Her vine slowly rubbing my cheek, making my smile bigger as i look down a little bit shy
Those vines invading my personal space. Abusing me. Touching me without my consent. Those terrible plants will treat me as some toy that they can play with for their own pleasure. I know how to deal with creatures like that. Smile and let them do what they want. Don't show them the truth. They always hate it. I just need to handle a little bit of abuse and sexual harassment. It's funny, that Terran Navy prepared me for something

I just had my first actual HDG themed dream. All I remember is being on a compact ship, the stars of the universe around us shone beautifully. Terran greenery grew everywhere in both simulated gardens and minor ecosystems. There were various affini walking around with their pets, people I knew and recognized. As for me? I was a pet, too. An affini had me on a leash, and we were just walking, enjoying our day. It was very comfy, and I really enjoyed being an affini’s pet, until I woke up in my bed and the dream was over. I wish the affini were real.

Definitely agree on this, all of my writing thus far in Alienation | Pacification has been about my experiences with involuntary commitment, navigating that in a safe and kinky way.
I do have a slightly different perspective I struggle to articulate, though. I actually don't think the Compact is "good" ; for me, it's kinking off of my loss of agency as someone who is neurodivergent, and it is comforting that it ends up okay and cared for in this context.
Philosophically, I question whether I need to be taken care of. A truly "utopian" society for the disabled would eliminate the need for us to be cared for at all; all would be accommodated for in such a way that we didn't need condescending smart plants to take care of us. Which is why I personally have a more dystopian view of the whole thing. I don't want a version of the system that actually cares about me; I want freedom.
But like. I still love it and engage with it in the same way described here. In the end of my story, the characters will be happy, make no mistake. I just don't always agree with the notion that happiness is the desirable end goal. Hopefully, I can navigate that and portray that in a way that people find thought provoking, respectful of the source material, and most of all kinky as hell. The response so far has been pretty great, so I am optimistic.
HDG is about, and must remain about, disability. But a diversity of disabled viewpoints can only make the setting richer and more engaging. HDG is a setting, not a genre, and can be used as a vehicle for many things.
Many of HDG's loudest detractors miss the point when they describe the setting as horror. They are not wrong, but because they do not engage with the themes, subtext and metaphors at play, instead focusing on a purely literal understanding of the setting, they don't understand why they find it so offputting. They yell about humanity never reaching its full potential, or the violations of individual spirit that lie at its heart. HDG imagines a world where the kind of treatment that the severely disabled among us experience is universal.
And yeah... Fair. A factual recount of my life is actually pretty horrifying.
HDG exists in conversation with disability. It is not about being trans or queer, though there is obviously a lot of overlap. It is about imagining a world where those who have disabilities are cared for, and pulling apart the complicated feelings that authors have about the loss of control required for that to happen.
The mechanics of the specific allegories that HDG employs to examine disability frequently lean into noncon, but remember, nobody who is disabled asked to be, and we are frequently the victims of systemic abuse they the Affini are often a cathartic reclaiming of.
HDG is about a world where you go through that and emerge with a promise that you will be cared for on the other side. That you don't have to navigate systems seemingly intentionally designed for you to fall through the cracks, where you won't be expected to be able to do what everyone else is capable of.
HDG is also written by those of us who survived. Straight up, I should be dead, and it is only through the incredible support of my loved ones that I have a home at all. Those of us who can live to tell the tale of severe disability are, by definition, biased to examine caretaker and provider roles.
The moment you realize you are truly disabled, that you will never, ever live the life you have been promised, where a doctor infantalizes and criticizes you for things you never had control over, is a kind of death. The breaking of the narrative that you have the ability to fully self determine is painful. It leaves you forever changed.
This is a fact of the setting that is easily lost under the joy inherent to kink. Traumatized and broken people deserve joy, and I don't think the utopian elements of HDG don't belong, but they are not the whole picture.
Some of my examinations are happy, like Good Sensory. Others examine how hard it is to trust after being kicked for so long, like Cat and Mouse. All are messy and personal.
HDG describes a world where everyone like me survives. The life I live every day, but made safe, and comfortable, for everyone. And to some, that is one of the most scary things they can imagine.

I joke on occasion that I would be florted so easlily because I'd fail a wellness check and wardship, but there is a serious undertone to that humor as well. Since getting into hdg, I've really realized that I live in a society not built for me and my nerudivergance. It's made me a lot more aware of the parts where I'm not really supported and in makes me sad and angry and a bit hopeless and a bunch of other complex emotions. Like I genuinely grieve the fact that I'll never live in a society that actively supports and looks out for me. That fact is pretty devastating to me, but the thing I can do is take little steps to make my life better. I'll set up systems for myself, and eventually, I'll get to a point where I can manage to do everything I need to

kudzu affini who doesn't understand personal space or why "into you" is not a valid direction to grow
kudzu affini who wakes you up with a feeler already moving down your throat
kudzu affini who breathes for you because they're in your lungs and up your nose
kudzu affini who loves to restrict that airflow just to tease you, to get you nice and desperate for them
kudzu affini whose haustoric implant spreads through your entire nervous system and pops leaves out of your arms
kudzu affini who is never going to let you go because you're a part of them now, petal, and isn't that so lovely?

unironically one of the biggest selling points about hdg for me is that im 100% certain that if i told an affini that i see myself as an alien stuck in a human body not only would they do their very best to make my body look the way it should, they would also try and help me find a planet that matches what i think of when i imagine where i should be from

Fucken uuuuhhhhhhh Independent Terran who gets a wellness check called on them by their hab because they’re sick and not eating/moving enough. The affini that shows up starts taking care of them, and is doing a fine job of respecting their autonomy. Shenanigans of some kind ensue and the human asks the affini to pretend to be their mom. The affini obliges and pulls the human into its vines, wrapping them tight and warm against its feverish charge. The human falls fast asleep and is only woken occasionally when the affini has to administer some oral antibiotics it compiled. It feeds them, it cares for them, it washes them and clothes them. Eventually the hesitant “thanks mom”s morph into them adorably saying “thank you mommy!”

i headcanon that the hardest species the affini have ever tried domesticating is a race of goatgirls. somehow they can bite through core material and they find all affini grafts delicious, and it's hard to get in range to even drug them because they just bite your injectors off then stare at you with those fucked up eyes of theirs while going monch monch monch
also you literally cannot confine them; no security system has any effect on them no matter how advanced. locked doors? they somehow guess the passcode every time. fences? don't kid yourself, these fuckers can walk up 90c angles like it's a flat surface
bonus points if, in the same way that affini still have an ancient genetic discomfort around fire, they find the way that the goats stare at them incredibly unnerving

Feralist III
An hour after the invasion start hundrets of thousands of small flowers cover the streets and walls, making their way even through closed windows. After few seconds all of them start to speak. "Welcome in Affini compact! Worry about nothing, as all of your worries just came to an end! We domesticated this planet ending the rough rule of capitalism. If you have any questions please ask one of the flowers, or head to the nearest domestication center! Flower know the way!"
I need to move my wardrobe to block the window. I can board up the door using my bed frame. I need to destroy everything with the access to internet too. Goodbye my phone. Goodbye my trusty pc, you've been with me since always. I should have enough food for two weeks. After that. I have a gun. One bullet should be enough.
