It's always such a privilege to hear that someone has read something of mine, but especially so that you've been moved enough to come back with song recommendations. Thank you very much for doing this and I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to get into a space to listen.

The first two I'd never heard before but ooft! I'm surprised Die First isn't on every Soap/Ghost playlist ever made, being so obviously about a depth of feeling, of intertwining, but also feels like it belongs with people for one whom one dying is a real possibility. First class recommendation.

Hard Day's Love strikes me more as being in the same category as Kate Nash's Foundations, about being in a relationship that's run its course, but no one has the fortitude to call time on and leave. Certainly a new direction for the pairing of these two, because I've never seen someone take the idea of the two of the them surviving the events of the game, but despite their shared experience, just find themselves in a doomed relationship. It's certainly an exciting direction to take the two of them; although it's not where I see the story going.

I do really like the two Kelly Clarkson recommendations! Definitely fitting the vibe of Ghost being left behind, and the loss of Johnny being something that profoundly affects how he approaches life and relationships as he grieves.

Cliff's playlist

Overview: reflecting on people she's known in the past and wondering what happened to them and where they are now. Cliff's perspective.

First verse:

Focused on Damon obviously, but I want to look more at this:

"His parents cared more about the Bible/Than being good to their own child"

I'm wondering if part of what he went through was justified because of the bible. He seems mostly indifferent to Cliff's religious beliefs and celebrations and stuff but he doesn't seem interested in getting involved. It's deleted now, but there's also the scene in Ethereal where he dropped the iconic "I have no quarrels with someone else's coping mechanism" line. It's deleted now for whatever reason but I still think about it a lot.

Third verse:

"She raised her brothers on her own"

IM SORRY BUT THIS LINE IS WHY THOS IS REALLY ACCURATE anyway so this verse is clearly about Hazel. The line I want to look at is:

"She couldn't wait to go to college"

So the way I'm thinking of this is that Cliff, as her brother who she raised, believes that she's jealous of him or just counting down the days until she can get rid of the family she raised. Of course, this isn't how she actually feels, but I do think there's a part of her that's always been angry that she couldn't go off to college like she always wanted to. Instead she dropped out of highschool and focused on her kids.

The chorus also says "we don't talk much" which aches so bad bc it applies to both of them. He doesn't talk to Hazel as much as he wanted to and him and Cryfe drifted.

Final:

I know this is long but I think Cliff cares a lot about these two people and it causes him physical pain to think they don't know their value.
