Unemployed and Uneducated
Summary: Peter is desperate for a job after months of living on his own
Warnings: none really, just a few mentions of loneliness and a lost relative
Tumblr media
“Peter Parker?” A woman from the unemployment office calls into an overall dejected lobby. Peter looks up from holding his head in his hands as his knee bounces anxiously.
The same few thoughts flood his brain:
* I’m pathetic
* I can’t do this much longer
* I can’t do anything
* I need help
- Who the hell could I ask?
- I’m fucking alone!
- I couldn’t save May, who else can’t I save?
* I am so fucked in the head
- Lost everyone
1. First my parents
2. Ben
3. Tony
4. May
5. Everyone else, including my best friend, my doppelgängers, and of course, the love of my life
Man this shit is gonna give me a complex
* I am so depressed
- I should get medication
- I can’t afford medication
- That’s why I’m at a fucking unemployment agency
* And I’m back to being pathetic
“Here,” Peter pushes away all of those invasive thoughts for the next fifteen minutes in that woman’s office. She types his name into her computer and pushes her glasses up, as if that will change the astonishing lack of… anything.
Peter sits there, awkwardly, eyes darting around the room as if he has no clue about what she’s seeing— not seeing on that screen.
“I’m sorry,” she starts, “I think we’ll just have to “build your resume on print.” The red haired middle aged—Gina, Peter reads the name on the plaque on her desk— grabs a pen and some paper.
“So where did you graduate?”
“Oh, I uh… I had to, uh… dropout…?”
Gina nods and writes something down on the paper. She kinda reminds Peter of a glorified guidance counselor… but maybe a little meaner. “Look Peter, I’m not gonna lie to you, this isn’t looking good for you. Without a GED and a diploma shits gonna get real difficult. I seriously recommend you getting that GED. I can’t give you some entry level jobs to start until you get that degree.”
Now it’s Peter’s turn to nod.
“So tell me about what you like to do.”
‘Apparently, I like to self sabotage a lot.’ He filters himself so he doesn’t projectile word-vomit all over this stranger’s office.
“I wanted to be an engineer. I had my sights set on MIT before I had to drop out.”
———
Trying to think of a time before a traumatic event is extremely difficult. A victim of rape can be triggered by something that once was innocent, like a lemonade stand; a son who used to be pushed by his father on the football field might not be able to play football ever again after they stop talking to their father; a victim of domestic violence might not be able to respond to sudden movements from their partners the same way. And for all of those people, looking back on their memories before the abuse might be difficult to do with a totally unbiased opinion.
Something’s you never forget, like the way Aunt May felt in Peter’s arms just before she died. Or the words she spoke in those final moments, the same words his uncle Ben said when he died.
‘Nothing will ever be the same.’
Peter can’t afford flowers for May’s grave, but he still visits her grave three times a week on average, no less than two in that span.
And that’s where he is right now. Sitting across from her grave stone with his journal between the hedge and him.
“So I’m still looking for a job, and I haven’t really had time to make friends, but it’ll get better soon…” as soon as he feels a tear fall down his right cheek, he sniffles, blinks. And uses his sleeve to wipe it all away.
“Good God, May. Why didn’t you tell me it’d be so hard to make it on my own?” He chuckled somberly, the same way anyone would when they were trying to hide their emotions.
“I don’t want to keep going.” He cries. “I don’t know if I can.”
“You can.” A familiar, yet unfamiliar voice says from behind him. “She’d want you to.”
It’s Happy.
Peter closes the journal and stands up as fast as possible for him.
“Sorry,” Happy starts, “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”
Peter hides his face and can’t even bring himself to self to glance at Happy even by accident, “No no, don’t worry about it. It’s fine. I should probably leave anyways.” He starts to step away but Happy takes hold of his jacket sleeve.
“Wait, let me take you to get something to eat,” He smiles, “please. My treat.
Tom takes a moment to consider the offer. The most surprising thing about his moment of hesitation is the fact that he thought about saying no.
“Why would you want to take a stranger out to eat?” He asks.
“I don’t know. You just remind me of someone that I can’t quite place.”
Peter smiles with a glint of hope in his eyes.
— — —
“So,” Happy starts as Peter munches on his cheeseburger, “what’s a young kid like you doing visiting someone’s grave instead of going to school?”
Peter puts down the burger, “I had to drop out actually.” Happy leans back on the booth bench.
“It’s not drugs or anything,” Peter reassures the older man, “I just don’t have the money for anything and I need to earn money for rent.”
“So was May helping you with that before she died?” Happy asks.
Peter debates being forthcoming about his past, but decides against it because he doesn’t have the strength anymore. He lost that at the Statue of Liberty.
“Yeah. My parents died and she always managed to find someway to help me.” Peter smiled.
“I was her boyfriend,” Happy begins, “she never mentioned you. Peter, are you hiding something?” Peter gets a l little nervous.
“I went to the soup kitchen after school. She helped so many that she probably had no idea the effect she had on me.” He covers his ass.
Happy is still suspicious but doesn’t push. “Well, Peter, you seem like a good kid. I’m sure everything will work out eventually.”
“Thank you, Mr. Hogan.”
“So where’s the first place on your list?” He asks.
“What?”
“You said you’re looking for a job, tell me where you’re looking and I can give you a ride.”
“Stormy’s Autobody.”

“god i love your hands” “lets put them to good use then” you know with who👀🤭
whipped cream
warnings: suggestive comments, connotations of sex, smirky haz
Tumblr media
harrison winked at you, spraying out some of the whipped cream from the can onto the back of his hand, “you ready for this, love?” he smirked, watching you staring at his hand, specifically the rings that rested on his middle and index fingers. he cleared his throat, grabbing your attention.
“oh, um y-yeah, ready as ever!” you rubbed your hands together, blushing slightly at getting caught in the act of staring. putting forth your hand upside down in the air, you allowed him to spray some amount of whipped cream on your hand as well.
“okay, let’s do this!” he said, pressing the record button on the phone that was propped against a wall on the kitchen counter. as soon as the video started recording, harrison hurried and smacked the back of his forearm, making the cream fly into the air, but not hight enough.
his estimations fell wrong as the cream dropped downwards, getting all over harrison’s palm. he cursed under his breath, making you laugh but that soon died down when he decided to lick the cream off his hand. he smirked to himself, waiting for you to take your turn.
“okay, let’s do this.” you mumbled before repeating harrison’s maneuvers, the whipped cream flying into the air but before you could catch it in your mouth, harrison interrupted, his clean hand shooting forward and catching the whipped cream as it spread all over his fingers, “hey-”
he grinned, “got it!”
you just stared at the blue eyed bloke with an amused expression, “what was that for?” you huffed and reached over to the phone to stop it from recording anything further. you glared at your boyfriend wanting him to explain why he did what he did.
but he just shrugged, unfazed by your stern look, “you can just lick it off, darling.” your eyes widened at his suggestion, him doing nothing except raising an eyebrow towards you cheekily, “wouldn’t you like that?”
you looked back and forth between his eyes and his hand before taking his in yours, gulping the lump formed in your throat due to the tension inside your very kitchen. his free arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you into his as your lips wrapped around his index and middle finger, sucking and licking the cream off of them.
he stared at you with lustful eyes as you continued doing so until most of the whipped cream was off his fingers. you looked up at him, feeling the fingers of his other hand digging into the skin of your waist, “god i love your hands.” you didn’t even realise what you’d said until you saw a smirk rise to his face, feeling the heat spread across your face, burning in the best way possible.
“let’s put them to good use then.”

not so subtle - part thirteen
Tumblr media
Pairing: Harrison Osterfield x reader Word Count: 2.9k~ Warning: swearing A/N: first ‘not so subtle’ / fic piece i’ve written for the year. holy cannoli. probably one of the shorter pieces i’ve written in a while. anyways, sure would be super if you left feedback. enjoy ~
Tumblr media
One hundred and sixteen calls.
Seventy-eight voicemails.
Two hundred and three text messages and counting.
It was official: Harrison Osterfield definitely used up his data plan for the month. Still, it didn’t discourage the flood of messages pouring into your phone.
You wanted to keep the matter private; why fill the world in on your inevitable heartbreak?
Of course you never got what you wished for. Within a week all your friends heard the story that transpired Halloween night. What’s worse: everyone seemed to have a say.
Some sympathized with you, cursing Harrison as an asshole. Others pleaded for you to give him another chance. Sure, mistakes had been made but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be redeemed. Actually, that’s exactly what it meant. Nothing could change your mind.
Harrison Osterfield was officially a blacklisted topic.
If you pushed out the memory far enough, you’d end the suffering. You’d be content. So you ignored Zendaya’s calls about how you should let him speak his peace. Zendaya, you beautifully majestic, innocent gazelle. You’re too good for this world. You deleted Harry’s texts about how you both needed closure. Closure can suck it. Nothing would make a difference.
So maybe that’s why you weren’t expecting that certain visitor at your doorsteps.
You had no reason to suspect anything exciting. After all, you called off the annual Thanksgiving dinner. You kept quiet amongst your friends so you hadn’t been expecting company when you trudged up your apartment steps.
But there he was.
You blinked in surprise at his presence. Huh? Huh.
There, at the stop of your steps, sat Tom. You couldn’t help but notice the prominent dark bags under his eyes. Upon clearing your throat he glanced up.
Out of everyone, Tom chose to remain mum to the situation. It only made sense that he would side with his best friend; his silence on the matter only served to confirm your suspicion. Perhaps he had something to add? Oh, no. You weren’t sure you were ready for that. Already forming an excuse, you began to greet him.
“Hey, Tom. I’m actually-”
“He’s an idiot.”
You blinked once. Twice. That was definitely unexpected.
“Um, would you like to come in?” you offered. He nodded, dusting off his pants as his face soured at whatever thoughts troubled him.
“He shouldn’t have done that” he scowled as he entered your apartment. Even in his outraged state, he found time to take off his shoes and hang up his jacket neatly. What an odd sight to see an infuriated Tom tidying up your home.
“I told him he shouldn’t have done that!”
“Who are you talking about?” you asked gently, peeling your own jacket off before haphazardly tossing it on your sofa.
“Haz! That bloody idiot, Haz!” he fumed as he picked up your jacket and hung it up on the coat rack. “He shouldn’t have…He shouldn’t have done that!”
No, he shouldn’t have. The two of you certainly agreed on that. Still, it was strange to know Tom sided with you. This was Harrison’s best friend. Wasn’t this the moment where he pleaded Harrison’s case? Wasn’t this the man who insisted the two of you belonged together? What did it mean when Tom stopped believing in that potential?
Tom stormed about your kitchen as you stared confused, watching him open cabinets until he found the kettle.
Of course he would make tea at a time like this.
He grumbled under his breath as he fussed around, muttering how his best friend was an absolute git. You wanted to agree, but it seemed wrong to insert your opinion during his mini tirade.
A couple minutes later Tom handed you a cup of tea before pouring his own.
Studying his furrowed brows, you quietly took a sip. What was Tom’s angle here?
“Even though he’s an idiot, you must know that he cares about you.” Ah, there it was. You rolled your eyes as you took another sip. The beverage burnt your tongue but it was better than speaking about the issue at hand.
“He does” Tom insisted. “He just…”
“If you say he made a mistake, I will toss your tea into the sink” you calmly warned. It didn't matter who made the tea; this was your house, and he knew you would follow through with the threat.
“He just-”
“Tom, I genuinely don’t care” you lied, turning to grab honey. You ignored his look of concern, proceeding to sweeten your tea. “Really, I don’t. I don’t care.”
“Y/N, there’s never shame in caring” he commented softly.
“There’s certainly shame in caring too much” you snorted, taking a swig.
“Is that what you really believe?” Tom tilted his head, almost heartbroken by your display of honesty. You hated that look. God, you despised that look. Stop that.
“I’m not getting into this with you, Tommy.”
“He cares a lot about you. He really does.” Stop. Please.
“Not when it matters most.”
“He didn’t mean to have this escalate.” Please stop. It’s too much. Just...stop.
“I don’t care.”
“He didn’t mean-”
“It’s not about what he did or didn’t mean to say or do, Tom!” you cried out, flinging the cup down onto the counter. You were so exhausted hearing the same excuses over and over. “It’s not about what he wanted to do or what he wanted to say! He hurt me, alright? And I get that he’s your best friend! I do. I really do! But what he did?” You felt your face hot, tears rimming your eyes.
“I’m not okay, Tom” you heard your voice crack. “I get that you see him as this great guy who made a mistake but I...I’m...I’m not okay.” You looked down at the tiles, unable to face him. “I wanted to believe we’d work out. But it’s not that easy. How am I supposed to forget all the things he did?”
Tom set his cup down before crushing you with a tight bear hug, startling you completely. You stood in his arms, unsure of what to make of this.
“I’m sorry” he whispered into your hair. “I’m so sorry.”
The two of you had never been close, but in that moment you understood why Emma loved him so much. You understood why everyone adored him. This person felt so strongly, cared and considered your feelings so thoughtfully, that the idea of his best friend breaking your heart hurt him too.
Slowly your arms wrapped around him before clinging to him tightly. Tears rolled down your face as you began to sob. How strange to think that Tom was the first person you cried to since the incident. How strange to be vulnerable with the best friend of the man who cut you deeply. Yet you wouldn’t have traded this comfort for anything.
He consoled you, brushing your hair as you choked out all your despair. Every so often you heard him repeating his apologies, how you didn’t deserve any of this.
By the time you finished crying, your throat felt raw. Using your sleeves to wipe away stray tears, you managed to collect yourself somehow. The two of you moved to the couch where you sipped on the now lukewarm tea.
Tom was the first to break the silence. “I know you don’t believe me, but things will get better.”
“Please don’t tell me he’ll fix things” you groaned. Tom gently nudged you before placing his hand on yours.
“Then I won’t say it. I’ll just think it.” The two of you mustered weak smiles at his comment.
Once again, silence crept into the space. The two of you sat quietly as Tom racked his brain trying to formulate the right words.
“Y’know, when we’re hurt, we lash out to protect ourselves” he started slowly. “I’m not excusing anything, but-” he hesitated, staring down at his cup before glancing at you. “He felt hurt as well.”
Good. He deserved it.
Did he though?  Did he deserve you attacking him mercilessly?
Despite all the anger and frustration, you never wanted to truly hurt Harrison. That was never your intention. After all, you cared too much for that.
But that’s what you did that night, didn't you? You hurt him, and you did it on purpose. You provoked him, prodding his weaknesses and exposing his flaws. And for what? It was trepidation that he’d hurt you again.
You did just as Tom described; you guarded yourself by lashing out.
Shit.
All you could do was simply nod at Tom’s words as you let the realization sink in.
Harrison hurt you. You hurt Harrison. Neither of you had been in the right for what was said and done.
It was discomforting to come to terms with that you weren’t simply the victim, but you needed to acknowledge the truth. The two of you wronged one another, both to blame for that night.
“You’re a lot more clever than we give you credit for, Tommy” you smiled softly at the Brit.
He chuckled as he nudged his shoulder gently with yours. “I’m not asking for you to forgive him right away. Or maybe you haven’t got to forgive him at all. The things he did- that’s hard to bounce back from. But you two?” He glanced at the carpet, letting his foot dig into the fabric. “Really can’t imagine the two of you being happy letting this go unresolved, ya know?”
Oh, how you knew.
Tumblr media
Tom’s words played in your mind from that day on. “Really can’t imagine the two of you being happy letting this go unresolved.”
He was right, of course. It was difficult to move on when your thoughts constantly lingered on Harrison. That didn’t mean you could simply give Harrison a quick ring. What would you say?
“Oh hey, Harrison. You were an absolutely dick, but I guess I was a complete twat. We should probably put it in the past.”  Haha. Yeah, right.
Turns out you didn’t need to phone him.
A couple days later you returned from classes where someone nervously paced back and forth in the middle of your staircase.
You stood at the base staring up at the sight of him. You knew he came by frequently attempting to apologize in person. Kimberly wouldn’t allow him, stating he’d only hinder your mental health.
You knew her girlfriend once threw something at his head and barked at him to beat it. You heard him yelp before escaping down the stairs.
You knew he left voicemails after his visits, pleading how he just wanted a minute to speak. But hearing his voice was a completely different sensation than seeing the man before you.
It didn’t matter how nervous or messy he looked; Harrison Osterfield looked good and would always take your breath away. You wondered if his handsomeness would ever fade. Maybe never.
“I’m so sorry.”
How many times had he apologized in voicemails? How many texts had you read with him repeatedly stating that? Strange to think how a word could lose its strength when so overused.
“Sorry about what?”
“Everything.”
“I don’t know what you mean.” An exasperated look crossed his face causing you to roll your eyes. Perhaps having him slightly grovel was a bit petty, but you felt entitled to that.
You climbed the stairs, finding yourself ready to slam the door in his face. Fuck unresolved feelings.
Right as you were about to breeze past, the realization dawned on Harrison that you wanted a proper apology. His hand bolted out, gently grabbing your arm. It dropped when you glanced at his hold. He murmured an apology, wiping his sweaty hand on his shirt.
“I’m sorry, alright? I’m sorry for grabbing you like that. I’m sorry for how I treated you on Halloween. I’m sorry for every stupid mistake I made when it came to you.” Suddenly, he was confessing all his faults. They poured out, apologizes for every time he hurt your feelings or made you cry.
And you understood he meant it. He genuinely felt terrible about his mistakes. He wanted to right the situation.
But you weren’t ready to move past so easily.
It’d be so simple to forgive everything and say you were fine. Yet you weren’t alright in the slightest.
Yes, you hurt him. Yes, you were to blame as well. You knew this. Still, the scorn he released on you felt fresh in your memory. The way his words snapped without second thought terrified you. You could forgive, but you couldn’t simply forget.
Adjusting yourself on the staircase, you made yourself eye level with him before speaking. “Fine.”
“Fine?” he echoed, clearly unsure what this meant.
“Fine” you repeated. “I accept your apologies.” You shrugged on the verge of turning when his hand took hold of yours.
“What...Is that all?”
“What else do you want from me?” It was a loaded question, something he hesitated to answer.
“It doesn’t matter” you brushed off when he didn’t speak. “It’s fine, Osterfield.”
“C’mon, Y/N. I just-”
“I said it’s fine. I don’t care.”
“You can’t meant that.”
“I don’t care. I’m done with this, alright? You came here to apologize, and I accepted the apology. What more is there to say?”
“How about talking about us?”
“What about us?”
“We can move past this. We can take this slowly. We can make this better” he urged.
“But what if we can’t?” His face fell at your words. “I get what you’re saying. I mean, I laid it on the line for you. And no doubt you laid it on the line for me too.” The corner of his mouth lifted slightly. “But we never really stood a chance, right? That’s what we learned on Halloween.” The glimpse of a smile vanished from his face. “We’d just...We wouldn’t work. So I’ll be the first to admit I’m done.”
It hurt to say, but it was for the best. Wasn’t it?
“I still care about you, Y/N” he squeezed your hand gently. You wanted so badly to squeeze it back, but you wouldn’t allow that softness.
“You cared enough to throw my insecurities back in my face? Is that your version of caring?” you countered. He flinched at your response.
“I never meant to-”
“But you did.” You stopped, remembering your discussion with Tom. As frustrating as the situation was, you had no right to throw this back at him.
Softening your tone, you continued. “I’m sorry for that. That was out of line. If this” - you gestured to him with your free hand - “was to ever work, I can’t imagine how happy we’d be together.”
Except that wasn’t true, was it? The two of you would’ve been great despite both of your faults. The two of you could’ve been magic. But your hesitance made you terrified to dive in.
“So like I said, I’m done.”
The two of you stared at one another, your determined glance taking in his own. Eventually he released your hand and you climbed the remainder steps.
Goodbye, Harrison.
As you slid the key into the lock, you heard a loud laugh.
“You know what? No.”
Turning around, Harrison stood at the top of the steps smiling at you. Why was he smiling like that?
“I fucked up. I know I’m an absolute div, the biggest div to ever exist for hurting you like that. You could probably put me in the competition for the diivviest thing to ever be done and I’d win hands down.”
Glad you two could agree on that one. A soft nod was all you offered in acknowledgment.
He paused, head tilting before shaking his head and chuckling to himself.
“But there’s no way I’m giving up on us. I’m not giving up on you.”
Sucking in your breath, you couldn’t turn away. What was going on in that mind of his?
“I know you’re scared of this, that you’re imagining how we’d hurt one another. Because we’ve done that in the past. Particularly me, which again, I’m a complete div for acting that way.” You couldn’t help by smile at that.
“But you don’t see what I do. How happy we’d be together.”
He began inching forward with every sentence. “Do you know that every time I see you, it’s like the whole world lights up? People talk about how great and funny you are, and I just can’t help but think how lucky I am to know you. I’ve always been glad to know you. Even when I wasn’t falling for you, I liked being around you. It wasn’t just that you were amusing, either. You were...You shine in a way that no one else could ever compare. Guys would talk about you, and I’d get jealous. It’s so bloody stupid, but I’d get so protective over you and we weren’t-” he paused, glancing down at the ground.
At this point you were too focused to look anywhere else but Harrison. As he glanced up, you held your breath. “Do you know how proud I’d be to call you mine?”
By the time he was only a couple steps in front of you, you could see those beautiful blue eyes shining. “You and me? We’re it. We’re magic, love.”
Your heart was pounding as you looked at the beautiful confident boy smiling at you. “What do you want me to say to that?”
He shook his head, that charming smile never fading. “You don’t have to say anything, darling. Because I’m gonna prove this is worth it. Despite both of us being too bloody stubborn for our own good, I’m gonna prove we’re good together.”

Updates: my writing
Okay so here’s what’s up:
I haven’t written anything in literally 6 months
I had started writing a Harrison fic based on When Harry Met Sally for a writing challenge but couldn’t get past the first sentence because of writer’s block, schoolwork, etc. And I also have a couple requests that have been sitting in my WIPs.
Well school for me ended a couple weeks ago and I was wondering, if y’all are still interested, I could work on finishing up those 3 things.
So here’s what I got:
1. When Harry Met Sally w/ Harrison
2. Soulmate!au / Tom x Reader x Harrison love triangle
3. Marvel au where you’re Peter Parker’s best friend and he’s in love with you but you start falling for the new kid Harry Osborn (portrayed by Harrison)
The Peter Parker x Reader x Haz!Harry Osborn au will definitely turn into a series if y’all like it enough and the soulmate!au has potential to be, depending on where the story takes me and (again) whether y’all like it.
I’ll post some plot summaries later, but please please PLEASE let me know which one I should write first! I know I’ve been gone for a while but I really want to start writing for y’all again.
Signal boost: @calmdownyall @tsukidrama @soft-haz @heyhihellowhatsup0 @nevertoofarfromivar @parkeret @heavenbarnes @madmadmilk @osterfield-holland-andcompany @tomhollandd @definitely-not-black-cat @londonspidey @quacksonhq @uglypastels @lamptracker @hollandroos @og-baby-ob14 @cartwheelandfaceplant

Smoked Out
Firefighter!Harrison x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: There's a fire and a weak attempt at titling. otherwise none
A/N: Uh yeah here's this it might be kinda boring but dead heat was getting notes again so here's a third firefighter fic
Word count: 4.2k
Quack! Quack! Quack!
Harrison’s alarm stirs you awake. He never used the default alarm, something about the default alarm being too jarring, though any alarm is supposed to be annoying, isn’t that the point of an alarm? You’d never bothered to question his logic. You tap him with the hand that was on his chest. He rarely woke up to his alarm but it woke you up so you’d gotten used to the routine of waking him up since moving in together. It was always the same every morning. You’d wake up and, in your semi-conscious state, attempt to shake him awake. He’d groan, squeeze his arms tighter around you, and mutter something along the lines of ‘five more minutes’. You’d have to persist in waking him up despite how much you wanted to stay wrapped up in his arms. Where you were warm. Where you knew he was safe.
But it’s four a.m. and duty calls.
Eventually, Harrison rolls over and turns off the alarm, taking his arms away from around you and letting the cool air send goosebumps across your skin.
You were awake now, as Harrison ran through his morning routine, so you’d start your own. Swinging your legs over the edge of the bed, you pulled Harrison’s shirt tighter around you in an attempt to stay warm. Harrison hopped in the shower while you started coffee for him and a tea for you. By the time he was out and dressed the coffee was ready and your tea was half gone.
You leaned against the counter, holding your mug with both hands while Harrison poured his coffee for himself. He leaned against the opposing counter. There was a comfortable silence between you two, Harrison was lost in his thoughts, his gaze locked on some random cupboard while you did something similar.
You always got nervous before his twenty four hour shifts. They scared you, there was so much time for everything to go wrong.
Harrison snapped out of his thoughts, finally realizing that he’d been staring at a cupboard for the past ten minutes. He leaned further against the counter and kicked the side of your leg gently, really just bumping it and pulling you out of your thoughts. Even once you’d looked up he continued to do so.
“What?” You spoke quietly, your voice was barely above a whisper.
“Nothin’. Just love you” Harrison continued to tap your calf rhythmically.
“Oh, so you kick me?” You reply in mock offence, holding back a chuckle.
“Yep,” Harrison pops the ‘p’.
“That’s not nice”
“ ‘S a shame” You could see a small smile pulling at his lips. You start to do the same thing to him and it pulls a laugh out of the both of you. Eventually, he stops, grin still plastered on his face. He stands up straight and places his mug behind you before taking your own and doing the same. His hands fall to your waist.
“You took my tea” You wrap your arms around his neck, your fingers finding their place in his hair.
“It was empty anyway, love” He leans down and presses his lips softly to yours and pulls away a couple of seconds later.
“I’m so proud of you”, You say after a moment of silence between the two of you, your hands still fiddling with the curls at the back of his neck.
“Why’s that?” Harrison responds and you can’t help but roll your eyes. He definitely knows, but you'll indulge him.
“You’ve worked so hard for this promotion and you finally got it”
“Yeah this week has really been the best week of my life,” Harrison starts, “Finally got promoted to Lieutenant, got the girl of my dreams to say she’ll marry me,” He says the last half against your lips, kissing them once he’d finished talking.
“She must be lucky”
“If I didn’t have to leave for work I would tell her every reason I love her” You can’t help but smile as he kisses your hairline, “But then I’d be spoiling part of my vows” He whispers the last part and you roll your eyes at him, the same smile still on your lips.
“Stay safe today, please” Your left-hand falls from his hair, tracing down his neck then over his shoulder that’s covered by his dark blue station t-shirt. It continues down his bicep, forearm, until finally, it reaches his hand. Your hand and his both grab for each other.
“I always am” He whispers back to you, his hand squeezing your own.
“I know. Doesn’t mean I don’t worry. I already almost lost you once, I can’t imagine what’d happen if I actually did” The last sentence was mumbled. You worried that if you talked about him dying, then he actually would. That’s the last thing you wanted.
You had never been sure how he made it out of that accident alive. Persistence you supposed, only those who want to live, do. How the fuck does someone survive a tree going into their chest? The doctors had told you that had it been only a few centimetres over, it would have scraped his heart.
You had never believed in miracles until then.
“I’ll be safe. I’ll come back to you tomorrow, I promise” You pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, his lips barely brushing the skin before Harrison rested his chin on the top of your head, mumbling a small ‘I love you’ into your hair.
He pulled away to go and get his coat while you placed the mugs into the sink, they were a problem for later. You headed back towards the bedroom, knowing you’d meet Harrison halfway as he was about to leave.
“I love you, I’ll see you when I come home,” Harrison says as his left arm winds around your waist, his right holding his coat. You leaned up as he leaned down and your lips pressed together. This was in no way a goodbye kiss. It was an ‘I’ll see you later’ kiss. A ‘come home to me’ kiss. A ‘You’ve got to come home’ kiss. An “I’ll always come back to you” kiss
“I love you, too, lieutenant” You replied with a wink when you pulled away. Like he always did, Harrison leaned down a pressed one last kiss to your lips, this one much shorter than the first, and flashed you a smile as he opened the door. And you, like always, kept the door open and waved once he got in the elevator. You only shut the door once the elevator door shut down the hall.
Now, on schedule, you fell back asleep alone. It was 4:46 am, only a couple minutes difference from previous days, though the times never differed by much. Crawling into bed, you switched your pillow with Haz’s, something you did on days where you had a gut feeling something was going to go wrong, though it never did. You pulled the duvet over your shoulder and up to your chin before letting yourself lull back to sleep.
Harrison’s morning was boring. He and a couple of other trucks had to go out of the city a bit to where a tanker truck had rolled, they were mostly there to supervise in case any gas started leaking from it or if anything happened suddenly. He was there for a couple of hours before getting called back to the station. That morning and afternoon he had a school presentation on fire safety. Quite honestly, Harrison loved the school presentations. Especially with Tom by his side for them. He was pretty sure that the kids got a sense of how close Tom and Harrison were, so that made the presentation just that much more fun for them. The kids were adorable, they were so amazed by everything that they did. Even if he got the same types of questions every time he never hesitated to answer them. He always told the same story of the skyscraper as his coolest fire story. Yes, he’s gotten a cat out of a tree. Yes, it was scary at first. Yes, it’s a lot of hard work. The kids got some time to take photos with the fire truck and then that was the end of it.
Harrison got some time to relax and work out when he got back to the station around four that day. He’d been away from you all day and that on its own was exhausting for him. Not that he hadn’t been texting you all day. He told you about the cutest kid at each school, as he always did. They made his heart melt.
After a quick workout and a shower, he decided it was nap time. You take every chance you can get to sleep on this kind of job. When he woke up he’d do some station organization and maybe see how the new rookies are doing, another Lieutenant is with them at the moment, probably running drills, Harrison would worry about that later.
Your morning was okay. You woke up around ten and did some chores for the most part. Starting with cleaning up the scattered clothes around your room from the aftermath of your date last night. You placed Harrison’s suit jacket on the end of the bed, the previously crisp white button-down on top of it, and then your dress, navy blue to match his suit, on top of that. You’d have to get them dry cleaned later.
You moved into dishes after tossing in a load of laundry. You turned on the water and poured some soap onto your sponge and into the water before picking up your mug from earlier. It wasn’t until you saw a small glint on your hand that you paused your washing. Placing everything down on the counter, you dried off the minimal amount of water on your hands and carefully twisted the silver ring off of your finger.
You admire the diamond on it while wondering how you’d forgotten about it so quickly. It just felt natural to have it on. The ring was perfect for you, really. Harrison had said that he told Joshua Kane what he thought you’d like and JK had taken it from there. God, you loved this man. A simple round diamond sat on top of intricately shaped silver, the metal strands cross over each other and then again before coming together into a single band that wraps around your finger. You dry off the ring and place it on the counter. You’d put it back on when you finished the dishes.
The rest of the day continued fairly normally. You took a nap expecting to be woken up by the timer you’d set for laundry, instead woken by an excitable Monty wanting a walk. So you do. You took out the final load of laundry and fold it before you take him out for a walk. In the meantime, you drop off your dress and Harrison’s suit to be dry cleaned. You grabbed a quick coffee and lunch and then took Monty into the country to let him run around and exert all his energy.
When you got back, it was around dinner so you ate leftovers from your date with Harrison the night before and called your mum. Afterwards watching some random, mildly entertaining show on Netflix while giving some much-needed attention to Monty.
Harrison called you and the two of you recounted your days, really nothing interesting on either part. He told you about some of the kids from the school. They had opened up the trucks for them and let them look around and ask as many questions as they’d like. Two of the kids had even asked to put on Tom and Harrison’s helmets and jackets. The heavy coats went past the nine-year-olds feet and dragged on the floor. One of the teachers had snapped a photo of the two boys with Harrison and Tom squatted down next to them.
You smiled at Harrison’s enthusiasm, you knew he loved it when he got to work with the kids, and you loved hearing the stories and just how happy he got about them. The way his eyes lit up and his smile filled his face, even if you weren’t there to see it, you could hear it in his tone. You fell in love with him even more than you thought was possible.
People told you that it was impossible to start a family with firefighters. That there just wasn’t time, but you’re sure somehow you’d make it work if you and Harrison decided to.
By the time you hung up, it was nearly half-past nine. Harrison had to leave for a call and you figured that Monty needed another walk, a short one, before you’d head to bed. You returned an hour later from what was supposed to be a short walk with an exhausted Monty and you certainly weren’t going to turn down the opportunity to sleep now. Within twenty minutes you were asleep.
The night was dry, there were a couple calls but none that Harrison had to go one. He took this opportunity to nap quickly, half an hour, any more and he won’t be fully awake if there is a call. He knows better than to make that mistake again. When he gets up, a couple of people are still asleep on the bunks around him, Tom being one of them and a couple of rookies; Thompson, Grant, and Cai. He doesn’t bother them, instead, going to spend time doing something useful and go for a run on one of the station treadmill.
He’s not sure how long it’s been, it’s nearly 230 am, nearing the end of his shift, when the alarm rings through the station. Listening to the P.A. call that follows after, he realizes that it’s everyone that has to go. Harrison turns off the treadmill and wipes his forehead. As he jogs over to the truck to get in gear, it occurs to him that the address being said isn’t even in his stations’ covered area.
In fact, it’s his address that’s being blasted over the P.A.
Tom looks at him as he pulls the suspenders over his shoulders. Concern was written all over his face. Harrison knows what he’s asking. He’s asking about you. Harrison shoots back an expression that he hopes Tom reads as not sure, I hope not. Toms face relaxes as he continues to put on his boots and jacket but truthfully he prays that you were okay. You were a good friend of his too and he could hardly imagine Harrison’s devastation if anything happened to you.
Once Harrison was settled in the passenger seat of the truck, he dug into the pocket of his pants for his phone, sending you a text asking if you were okay. He kept his phone in his hand, waiting for it to vibrate and let him know that you were okay. When he got to the building, he could see heavy smoke coming out of the windows on the right side of the building on multiple floors. He immediately looked towards where he knew his apartment was, where he knew the bedroom window was, where you were possibly sleeping, and there’s no smoke coming out of it. Yet. The floor below is going strong but he wasn’t told to go to your floor, he’s told to go up higher, he’s better at preserving oxygen than a lot of the people on his shift, making him ideal for eleventh and twelfth floor, the top floors of the building.
Harrison looks for you in the group of people on the sidewalk across the street but he doesn’t spot you anywhere. He knows that he’d recognize the pink pyjama bottoms you always wore but there was nothing that vibrant in the crowd.
“Someone will bring her down, mate. She’ll be alright” Tom reassures with a firm hand on his shoulder. Harrison nods and looks towards Tom as he pulls the mask up and the visor down. Giving him one final nod before they run into the building and up the stairs to their floors. Harrison finds his floor almost entirely vacant except for one teenager who had been knocking on doors to make sure everyone was out and one dog. He thanks the boy for his help, instructing him to pull his shirt over his nose while they head back down the stairs. Meanwhile, he carries the small yorkie in one arm, the other helping guide the boy down to the main floor where more ambulances have gathered. He hands the dog off to another firefighter that he doesn’t recognize to find an owner.
The second floor Harrison has to cover is entirely empty, no one left. Even as he checks every room of every apartment he finds it empty. No pets, no one sleeping. Empty. He’s thankful and hopes that other floors are like that. Back down out in front of the building, Harrison pulls his mask down to speak better and save oxygen. He lets the captain know that the floors are cleared as others do the same about their floors. Toms next to him as both of them scan the crowd of people for you or Monty. Surely you would’ve ran to find him by now. The unsettling feeling inside his stomach only increases when his ears tune into something going on next to him.
“Sixth floor cleared captain” Thompson announces from next to him.
“Are you sure?” Harrison asks frantically to a confused Thompson, who only nods. “You checked every single apartment?”
“Yeah” Thompson draws out. Tom continues to search the crowd, no luck.
“You went into every apartment and checked every room to make sure everyone was out?” Thompson nods.
“Well” he starts, Harrison can already feel his blood boiling before he finishes the statement. “I did at first and then there was nothing turning up so I just banged on the doors, opened them up and shouted real loud to save time”
“So then the floors not fucking clear, is it?” Harrisons shouting now, nothing can explain how enraged he is, “That’s not even a rookie mistake, that’s just idiocy. Why the fuck would you do that?” He punctuates his question by pushing Thompson by the shoulders, causing him to take a few steps back. Harrison will feel guilty about it later, he’ll apologize when that happens but for now, he’s too busy pulling the mask up and adjusting his helmet as he runs back into the building, Tom in close tow behind him.
You woke up to the fire alarm ringing in the hallway. You hopped out of bed to see smoke filling up the room through the bottom of the door. You get down and crawl over to the door and feel the knob with the back of your hand which burns as soon as you touch it. Carefully you back away from the door and sit in the opposite corner of the room. Monty comes at sits with his head rested in your lap, nose digging into your hip. You pull a blanket off of your bed and over your nose, adjusting it so that it sits over all of Monty. You sit there for a little longer, you’re not quite sure how long, it could have been thirty minutes for all you know. You hear someone bang on the door and shout, you try to shout back, make a noise, anything, but all that comes out is a squeak and then a cough. You hear the door slam shut and tilt your head back against the wall. You spend the next probably twenty minutes but what feels like forever sitting there, focusing on your breathing, trying to keep it shallow and slow, while petting Monty to try and keep him and yourself calm.
“Y/n?” You hear a shout, instantly recognizing it to be Harrison and you try to shout back, keeping your eyes closed so the smoke doesn’t hurt them too much. The door swings open, banging against the wall, followed by heavy footsteps towards you. “Y/n” he repeats, calmer this time. You open your eyes and despite the burning the smoke causes, you’re met with blue eyes, ones that you know oh so well. It makes you breathe easier. For just a second before the smoke makes you close your eyes again you think that you saw tears.
“I’m gonna carry you down okay? Just wrap your arms around my neck and let me do the rest.” You nod and Harrison takes this as his cue to get you out.
Harrison takes a deep breath and holds it as he takes off his oxygen mask, giving it to you instead. He slowly lets out small puffs of air in spaced out intervals, trying to preserve his air as long as possible. He puts one arm under your knees and the other around your back while your arms go around his neck like he said. He starts to lift you up when you let out a singular word in a breathy voice.
“Monty”
“I’ll get him,” Tom pipes up and lifts Monty up effortlessly, following Harrison out of the building.
Once he’s far enough away from the building and behind the trucks he sets you down carefully, immediately wrapping his arms around you. You reciprocate, pulling him tighter to you momentarily until you pull off the mask. Harrison’s breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling as he looks at you. He takes off his helmet, throwing it to the floor so that he can lean in and press his lips against yours. Over and over and over again just wanting to feel you close to him. Relish in the feeling of having you in his arms.
“I was so worried about you” Harrison lets out through a choked sob. They were definitely tears and now they run down his cheeks, making evident trails down his face.
“‘M okay, Haz. Right here, Harrison, right here.” You reassure as he pulls you back into a hug, resting his chin on your head and placing soft kisses into your hair, ignoring the overwhelming smell of smoke that will likely take you days to get off.
A paramedic taps you on your shoulder and directs you over to her ambulance where you sit while she checks you over for any burns, nursing the burn on the back of your hand while Harrison and Tom go back in again to put out the fire. Once it’s out Harrison immediately walks over to the ambulance you’re at as the paramedic wraps your hand.
“Hey, lieutenant,” You say, removing the mask momentarily to speak. Harrison pushes it back against your face, a cute grin on his lips.
“Put the mask back on. Don’t be like me” He chuckles and you do too as he hops up on the back of the ambulance with you, starting to take off his jacket. You can’t help but watch his arms as he pulls off the jacket, letting it fall behind him. The paramedic takes your mask from you, hanging it up and handing Harrison a different line. Before placing it over his face he leans over and whispers in your ear.
“Only the paramedic that I have a crush on gets to take off my jacket for me” You shake your head at him, the reference to when you had first asked him out made you smile. The stupid grin on your lips never faded as the paramedic checks over him, finding nothing. After a few minute,s she hangs up the oxygen mask and signals for the two of you to hop out.
“Thank you” You mumble, pulling Harrison into a hug before he can even get his jacket on. He doesn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around you.
“For what?”
“Saving me”
“I shouldn’t have had to. If he’d only done his job-”
“Harrison it’s okay. You can deal with him later. For now can we go somewhere to stay for the rest of the night?” You press a hand against his cheek and Harrison leans into your touch. He relishes in the warmth that your hand provides for a moment before nodding.
“My spare bedroom is free for you guys if you’d like” Tom pipes up from a little bit away from you two, giving the two of you space while he pets and plays with Monty, keeping him occupied while you and Harrison reunite.
“We should probably stop back at the station first, finish the report and grab our stuff but then we’ll be on our way over. Can you take Monty over and we’ll meet you there after?” You nod and Harrison gives you a small peck before you squat done to call Monty over to you. Monty runs up and nearly knock you over as he jumps up onto you, licking your face and neck. Harrison and Tom are soon called away and Tom shouts back where the spare key is as they head back to the trucks.
And only a few minutes after you’d gotten settled into bed in Tom’s spare bedroom,  familiar arms wrap around you, pulling you against his chest and pressing kisses into your hair as the strange and comforting faint scent of smoke mixing with cologne and shampoo engulfs you as well. You turn around in his arms and press your lips against his.
A “you came back” kiss.
He’ll always come back to you.

Are You In Love?
Tumblr media
Summary: Best friends to lovers with Harrison Osterfield, featuring Monty
Warnings: Fluff, one swear word
Word Count: 582
You didn’t have anything planned tonight, you were probably just going to start watching that show that your friend had been asking you to watch. Maybe order a pizza. But then your phone buzzed with a text from Harrison and all your unofficial plans went out the window.
‘Come over.’ You knocked on the door and smiled as you leaned against the door-frame, listening to him padding around the apartment. You knocked again and heard an excited bark and paws scrambling against the wooden floor. Finally a flustered Harrison opened the door, flashing you a smile.
“Hey.” You bit back a smile as the fluttering feeling in your stomach kicked in. You stepped into the apartment and crouched down to say hello to Monty. You kissed the top of his head as he tried to climb onto your lap in excitement. Harrison pouted and pretended to wipe away a tear, “Where’s my cuddles and kisses?”
You grinned at him and gave Monty another kiss. “Sorry mate, all of my cuddles and kisses are reserved for Monty.”
He gave you a soft smile and crouched down next to you, scratching behind Monty’s ears. You cooed at Monty as you slid closer to Harrison, “Did you miss me, Love?” You smiled down at the spaniel, not expecting a response.
“More than you know.” You glanced over at Harrison, who had been staring at you. He had an odd look in his eyes.
“I missed you too.”
He nodded and glanced down at Monty with a smile. “Do you remember when we were sixteen and Tom set us up on that blind date?” He was looking back at you now, with that same intense look in his eyes.
You went quiet for a moment, thinking about that memory, as soon as you sat down in that cafe, Harrison sucked in a breath through his teeth and told you that he was going to kill Tom. But you both stayed anyway. You never told him that the reason Tom set it up was because you had asked him to. You used to have a huge crush on Harrison but after that day, you knew you had fallen in love with him but you never told him. “Yeah I remember it. How could I forget the best date I’ve ever been on?”
He gave you a soft smile, “It was a very pretty cafe.”
You shrugged and smirked at him, “I guess. I was too busy staring at you.”
He grinned and raised an eyebrow, shifting closer to you. “Are you flirting with me, Babe?”
“Have been for the past eight years but thanks for noticing.”
“Y/n. I know we joke about shit like this a lot but I need to be serious with you for a minute.” He looked nervous, you’d never seen him like this before.
“Yeah, sure. What’s wrong?” You reached over to take his hand.
He took a shaky breath and squeezed your hand. “I think I’m in love with you.”
You grinned at him, cupping his face with your free hand and kissed him. You felt him smile against your lips as he kissed back. You stayed like that for awhile until you had to break apart for air, “I love you too.”
He laughed and moved your hair out of your face, “Why didn’t we do this earlier?”
You chuckled, “Cause we’re idiots? Who knows?”
He leaned back in and pulled you in for another kiss, smiling against your skin.

Word Count - 2,044

chapter 1
Harrison woke up that fateful afternoon, feeling numb. He was hungover, with a pounding headache, and the unexpected wake up call from Tom had left him slightly disoriented. This was his new normal, though. The drinking, the smoking and the occasional drugs; anything to ward off his actual feelings, to numb the pain. He was simply going through the motions; taking each day at a time, still struggling to come to terms with reality and the consequences brought about by his actions.
He sat up at the edge of his bed, resting his head in his hands, waiting for the dizziness to subside. With a sigh, he stood up and made his way to the en suite bathroom. Harrison stood in front of the vanity, taking in his reflection. His eyes were bloodshot, lids still heavy with sleep, and the bags under them could never fully describe how tired he truly felt. His hair was disheveled, sticking out every which way. His eyes fell on his torso, on the scar that ran down his chest, all the way to gunshot wound in the middle of his abdomen. The physical wounds had healed very well over time, the scar almost invisible to the untrained eye but the pain was still there, the memories all too fresh in his mind. Pushing those thoughts to the back of his mind, Harrison entered the shower.
This meeting had been in the books for a while now and Harrison had been dreading it ever since. When he first discovered that Tom had reached out to you, he was livid. He could not believe that Tom would undermine his authority and ask a stranger for help. Harrison did not want to admit that they needed the help, especially not from some random girl who’s father just happened to be well respected in the industry. However, he was painfully aware that things needed to change if they wanted to stay on top. Once he got over his initial anger, he did of course realise that this was the only way to climb out of the hole they currently found themselves in. So even though he didn’t agree with Tom’s methods he trusted his judgement and decision, partly because Tom had never failed him but mostly because he was grateful that Tom hadn’t dropped the ball on things, unlike him.
And for those reasons, Harrison got dressed and found himself sitting in the passenger seat of the Porsche as Tom drove them to their destination. As he sat in the car, Harrison noticed a silence that would not be there on any other day. Usually, Tom would put on some music for car journeys as long as the one ahead of them and would talk about some client that was being difficult, but today he was way too occupied in his thoughts to bother with any of that. The pair had been inseparable ever since they met in primary school; they were as thick as thieves and had been with each through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. They knew each other better than the back of their own hands and trusted each other to a fault. So of course Harrison noticed his tense demeanour instantly - his jaw was clenched and his hands were gripping the steering wheel a bit too tightly. His brows were knotted and even though his eyes were trained on the road ahead, they seemed distant and lost in thought.
“Alright, out with it,” said Harrison, who couldn’t take the silence any more. He’d much rather have Tom talk his ear off than watch him battle his thoughts, alone.
“What d’you mean?” asked Tom, not once taking his eyes off the road.
“Mate, I know you’re worried about this but I can’t have you this distracted when we’re there, so what’s on your mind?”
“This needs to work out. I need it to work out,” Tom sighed, “And yes, I’m incredibly aware that this could very well be an ambush. We’re not armed, have no backup and are meeting a very dangerous stranger in the middle of nowhere. Things could end badly, not that they were great to begin with. I don’t know why I agreed to all her terms and I regret not setting our own but we have no leverage, she’s doing us a huge courtesy by even agreeing to meet us ‘cause we all know that she doesn’t need this. Which just makes me question her intentions further, ‘cause like, she can just wait us out and watch from the sidelines as we fuck ourselves over and then there’s one less family in the mob world. But no, she agreed to hear us out and discuss a possible merger which doesn’t really do her any good, at least nothing that I could think of. And to add to that, we barely have anything on her! I’ve done my research, if I can even call it that, and all I could find is that she’s young and runs the business and has ruffled some feathers here and there. That’s it! There’s nothing else on her, not many people even know that she’s a part of her father’s business. She may as well not exist, that’s how little we actually know about her, and that’s never a good sign.”
Tom let out a deep breath and brought a hand up to his eyes to try and relieve some of his headache. He was rambling and he was stressed and tired and way in over his head. This was new territory for both of them and neither knew what was going to happen in that bar. They were desperate and this was probably their last chance to save face and not burn their business to the ground.
“I trust you, you know that right?” Harrison reassured, “You’ve never made a wrong decision. Hell, you’ve managed to keep my ass out of trouble for such a long time you deserve a goddamn award!”
Tom let out a small laugh, “Yeah, it’s not easy mate.”
Harrison clapped Tom’s shoulder, “I know and I’m sorry that we’re in this situation right now and I know it’s my fault even though you’re never gonna blame me for it. But we’re gonna fix this, alright? One way or another.”
“Yeah.”
Harrison didn’t really know if he was going to accept your offer, he didn’t even know the specifics of the deal that you had discussed with Tom. But he trusted him to make the right decision so he stayed silent while they sat in the rundown bar waiting for you to arrive.
Forty-five minutes.
They had been sitting there in that bar for forty-five minutes, drinking and waiting. Tom was still anxious and lost in his thoughts while Harrison was getting more annoyed with every passing second. He’d suggested leaving twenty minutes ago but stayed because he didn’t want to argue with Tom.
“This is ridiculous,” he muttered, getting up from the booth to make his way to the bar to get himself yet another whiskey. The bartender had been eyeing them ever since they walked through the doors, sometimes even eavesdropping in on their conversation from time to time. He handed Harrison his drink, without exchanging any words and watched as he walked back towards the booth before continuing with his work.
Harrison sat down beside Tom, sipping on his drink. He had almost finished his drink when a soft thud caught his attention. His head immediately moved in the direction of sound, eyes straining to see the figures at the door in the dimly lit bar. His eyes were trained on you, as you and a guy entered the bar, following your every move. His eyes travelled across your figure; you were wearing a light blue shirt with some trousers and a pair of heels and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t think you were attractive.
“Mate, she’s hot,” said Tom, his face flushed with relief at your arrival. Harrison gave him a pointed look. “What, you told me to relax?” Harrison rolled his eyes but a soft chuckle fell from his lips.
He watched as you took a seat at the bar, listening to your conversation with the bartender. He tried to get a read on you, as you intentionally made them wait longer, but couldn’t which was new for him. You finally finished your conversation with the bartender, grabbed your drink and joined them at their booth.
“Hello boys,” you said, as you sat across from the two of them, studying them. Tom was sitting up straight, his fingers interlaced in front of him on the table, eager whereas Harrison leant back in his seat, his left arm resting on the backrest of the booth, uninterested.
“Fucking finally.”
“Excuse me?”
“We’ve been waiting for an hour.”
“No, you’ve been waiting for fifty minutes. But I really do apologise for making you wait ten more minutes than I initially planned; you see, something important came up.”
A snort left Tom’s lips that he tried (and failed) to cover up with a cough and Harrison rolled his eyes.
“Anyway, I guess I should properly introduce myself, eh? I’m Y/N Y/L/N. Yes, Y/L/N. Meaning that Y/D/N Y/L/N is my father. And you must be the Osterfield family disappointment, yeah?”
You were trying to rile him up, push his buttons as far as you can, just to see what he would do. You noticed his jaw clenching, tightening the grip on his glass, his eyes never leaving yours as he brought the whiskey to his mouth.
“Thank you for agreeing to meet with us on such short notice, Ms. Y/L/N,” began Tom. “You may have heard that we are in need of some assistance, financially, and the prospect of a deal with you and your dad is very appealing to us. As discussed, we’ve agreed to share the profit and territory with your organisation. In exchange, we’re willing to provide you with any assistance or man power that you may need.”
While Tom was talking, your eyes never left Harrison’s; his icy stare meeting yours. You only looked away when Tom was done rambling.
“It’s Tom, yeah?” You asked rhetorically, finally looking at him, “you can cut the bullshit, Tom. Everyone in the fucking country knows you’re sinking and the sharks are beginning to circle and you’re need me to come in and save you.”
“That’s one way to put it.”
“That is the only way to put it. Let’s be honest, I’m your best, worst option. Everyone else wants you dead, and most of the time I agree with that sentiment. But you could be useful.”
“Oh how so?” asked Harrison mockingly, pushing himself off the backrest and leaning forward. He knew you were going to be cocky given the circumstances, but your know-it-all attitude was beginning to annoy him.
“I don’t know yet.”
“Bullshit.”
“Well, you’re just gonna have to wait to find out.”
“That’s not how it works, love.”
“That’s how it’s gonna work, love.”
You knew of Harrison’s reputation. Cutthroat, unyielding, short tempered. Nothing you hadn’t dealt with before. Yet he annoyed you, which wasn’t something you were expecting.
“So, Tom. How does 80-20 sound?”
“Fuck, no.”
“What, no way. That’s not what we discussed on the phone. We settled on 60-40.”
“Yeah I know, love. But you see, I run the south and you barely have a grip on the north. Your business is failing and honestly, I don’t trust you. So, 80-20.”
“We still have some power.”
“In your fucking dreams, Osterfield. The only reason why you’re not dead yet cause people are still scared of you.”
“And you’re not?”
“I don’t see anything to be intimidated by.”
“Would you go for 70-30, maybe?” tried Tom.
“No we’re not doing fucking 70-30!” said Harrison, “It’s 60-40. That’s it. Take it or leave it.”
“Well, it was nice meeting you, boys. Let’s go Michael.” you said, getting up from the booth. Tom had his head in his hands, Harrison was angry underneath the cold exterior but also worried. Didn’t Tom say that this was their best chance?
“Fuck you, mate.”

You really didn’t want to be in this situation.
Your fingers toyed with the straw in the glass in front of you as watched the bubbles from the carbonation rise slowly from the bottom. Maybe if you concentrated hard enough, you’d float off like one of them and finally be able to escape this terrible fate.
   How did this even happen?
Oh right. It was his fault.
“Ah shit, mate,” Tom had sighed over the phone. “I forgot about today.”
“That’s fine,” you said, pouring yourself a cup of tea. “That’s why I called you. Wanted to make sure you were still up for it. If you’re busy we can reschedule, though.”
“I can’t do that to you,” he insisted. “You know I’m gonna be busy for the next little while. Got that new movie coming up…”
“And you still won’t tell me what it is,” you laughed. “I’m proud of you, Thomas. I’m surprised you haven’t spoiled anything yet.”
“I’d like to think I’ve matured, Y/N,” he teased, obviously miffed you called him by his full name. “Besides, last time that happened—”
“Marvel beat your ass, yes I know. Fine, you don’t have to tell me.”
   “You’re so understanding.”
“It’s just who I am,” you grinned. You knew he could probably hear it in your voice through the phone. “So you still want to get lunch today? A final send-off before you devote yourself to your craft and forget about my existence?”
“As if I could forget you,” he laughed. “I’d die without you, mate. But yeah, lunch today is good. There is one thing, though.”
   “I love things.”
“I don’t think you’ll like this particular thing.”
You pressed the phone between your shoulder and ear, holding it in place as you pressed you brought your tea up to your lips and blew gently on it to cool it down.
“Okay, now you’ve got me interested.”
“Well,” he began. “I forgot about today because we planned it a few weeks ago and I’m really sorry, but Harrison and I had made plans to hang out somewhere today so… can he come?”
“Uh,” you said, your brow furrowing. “Yes? Why wouldn’t he be able to come?”
“You two don’t exactly get along,” he laughed nervously. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable because it’s totally on me that I forgot about today so if you want I can—”
“Tom, it’s fine,” you sighed. “It’s not like we hate each other.”
   “You say that and yet…”
   “Shut up, idiot.”
“Okay, so that’s a yes?” he asked, not denying the fact that he was an idiot.
“Of course of it is,” you’d replied.
Oh, how naive you were. Of course, it wasn’t going to go well.
And besides, Harrison had no right to look that good for a simple lunch. He looked like he’d just walked off a red carpet. Not even Tom, who was sitting beside him sipping casually on a coke as he raised an eyebrow at you, looked that… good.
Harrison wasn’t even doing anything important. He was just looking off to the side, probably ogling a waitress or something, as he brought a chip up to his lips and bit down.
You swallowed harshly as he did.
His hair was styled perfectly, the front of it upswept and brushed to the side, revealing the entirety of his grossly perfect face. The sharp edge of his jawline moved as he chewed, and you watched the bounce of the muscles along the length of it and had to bring your glass of water up to your lips. The denim jacket that clung to his shoulders gripped his frame perfectly and it was just so unfair.
Good thing it was almost over.
“Are you doing anything after this?” you asked Tom, hoping to break the silence.
“Yeah,” he replied. “I have a meeting to go to. And I actually—” he paused, bringing his watch up to look at the time. “—should get going.”
“Sure,” you said. “I can get the bill.”
“No,” Tom said. “I got it. Oh, and before I forget, you left some clothes at our flat. Been meaning to give them back but I keep forgetting. Harrison washed them for you so if you’re not busy you can go grab them right now.”
“You did?” you asked incredulously, looking at Harrison.
He shrugged, crystal blue eyes refusing to meet yours as he continued to munch on the remainder of his food.
“Yeah, he did,” Tom smiled. He stood and grabbed the jacket from the back of his chair, slinging it over an arm as he reached into his jeans and pulled out his wallet. “He can drive you there if you want. You’re not busy later, right?”
The question was directed toward Harrison. His mouth opened, gaping like a fish for a moment before he caught your gaze. He sighed and shrugged.
“Yeah, I suppose I can,” he agreed.
“Awesome,” Tom smiled. “I’ll go pay, you two get going. I’m gonna be late again, but fuck it.”
After saying goodbye to Tom, complete with a hug and him complaining about how you messed up his hair when you ruffled it gently, you followed Harrison to his car. It wasn’t exactly a perfect day, but it was nice; as nice at it could get in London. The sun was completely obscured by the clouds but it wasn’t raining so, of course, he had the top down.
He stepped around to driver’s side and got in, eyeing you carefully as you reached over and put your bag in the backseat before opening the door to the passenger side and getting into the car. He hadn’t even bothered to open the door for you. Not that you were mad, you could open your own door. But why would he do something like that for you?
The ride to Tom and Harrison’s flat was nothing short of awkward. You could cut the tension with a knife.
Until you decided you’d had enough.
   “Do you think I’m stupid?”
Harrison turned to you for a moment before focusing back on the road ahead of him, a ghost of a smile on his lips.
“Depends on the reason you’re asking,” he said. It was the first thing he’d said to you since the restaurant and it was already making you grind your teeth together.
“I know you heard us planning lunch a few weeks ago,” you said. “You live with him. Why of all days do you have to plan to hang out on the day that we were supposed to go to lunch?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
You turned to your right, glancing at him, and saw the smile that crept up on his face. The corner of his lips tilted upward even though he was keeping his eyes on the road. His hair flew wildly about his face in the wind. You shook your head, slumping into your seat.
   “Unbelievable.”
When you arrived at the flat, it was even worse.
Harrison turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open, throwing his keys onto the kitchen table once you both stepped in. You shut the door behind you and watched as he tugged off his jacket one sleeve at a time. He threw it onto the back of the couch, leaving him only in a grey t-shirt that hugged his arms a little too beautifully, and turned to you with a sigh.
“Your stuff’s in the laundry room,” he said. “You can go grab it and then you can go.”
You were taken aback for a moment.
   “I’m sorry?”
“I’m just saying,” he muttered, brushing a hand through his hair. “You obviously don’t wanna be here any longer than you have to ‘cause Tom’s not here so…”
“No, wait,” you said, crossing your arms and stepping toward him. “I want to talk about this. Why do you hate me? What have I done for you to dislike me so much, I don’t get it.”
Harrison sighed again, his hand still in his hair.
“Do we have to do this right now?”
“Why not,” you said. You took a seat at the kitchen table as he leaned on the back of the couch. “We’re both here. Tom’s not here. Might as well get it all out in the open.”
   “I’d really rather not—”
“Just tell me, Harrison,” you sighed. “I’m sick of this. Don’t you think we should resolve this for Tom’s sake? It’s tearing him apart. You’re his best friend and practically his fourth brother, and he’s my best friend. He’s all I’ve got out here. I don’t wanna make his life miserable because we don’t get along.”
“Fine,” Harrison said. “You wanna know what I think?”
   “I do.”
“I’m scared,” he admitted, though his expression was serious. Almost angry, in fact. “Because every other girl who’s ever stepped foot in this flat claiming to be Tom’s ‘friend’ has only wanted two things—” he listed them off on his fingers as he spoke. “—sex and money. And my brother, because you said it yourself, he’s my brother, has to get his heart broken over and over because girls want to take advantage of him solely because of who he is. And frankly? I don’t know if I can trust you.”
“You really think I’d do that?” you asked. Your expression was sad, brows furrowed as you stood from your spot and stepped toward him. “Harrison, I love Tom. I’m so far from home and he’s my closest friend; fuck, he’s my only friend. Why would I give that up? I don’t care about his money, I care about him as a person.”
You shook your head, crossing your arms over your chest. “I thought you of all people would be able to see that with how much time I spend in your damn apartment.”
“Flat,” he mumbled under his breath.
   “Oh, whatever.”
He glanced up at you then, surprised at the chuckle at left your lifts with those words. His eyes were wide and curious as if he’d never seen you laugh before. You shook your head as you smiled to yourself, biting your lips as you met his eyes again. From his position leaning against the couch, he was just about eye level with you, and you saw his lips break into the first real smile—not a smirk or a snigger—but a real smile as he laughed quietly under his breath.
“Do you believe me now?” you asked softly.
“I always believed you,” he said. Your brows furrowed as he looked up and met your gaze. “I… I guess I was jealous, too. You spend so much time with Tom, you’re so close, I guess I was keeping you away from him for my sake too.”
   “W-what do you mean?”
“I don’t think I could take it if you and Tom did end up together,” he admitted. His cheeks were beginning to glow a little redder as he spoke. “So I guess I was trying to keep you all to myself.”
“I thought you hated me,” you admitted, stepping forward.
He laughed mirthlessly, his shoulder shaking as he looked down at his lap.
“Are you joking?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper. “First time Tom brought you home I almost thought I’d died.”
   “What are you—”
“‘Here’s this angel,’ I said to myself. ‘And she’s with Tom. Again.’ I always end up third-wheeling around him and his past girlfriends. I thought I’d have to live through that again. But it was…. different.”
He sighed and looked up to meet your gaze. His ice blue eyes looked sad.
“It hurt a little more with you,” he admitted. “Because you’re… so beautiful. And I was jealous. Tom always gets the pretty girls.”
“I’m not that pretty,” you muttered.
“You are,” he replied, eyes serious. “You don’t see it but you are.”
You sighed, rolling your eyes and throwing your arms up in exasperation. You stepped toward him until your feet were almost touching.
“Then why didn’t you talk to me?” you asked. “Why didn’t you… say anything?”
   “Guess I was scared.”
You smiled softly, grinning at him.
“If anyone was scared it was me,” you said. He looked up at you in confusion. “I thought the hottest guy I knew hated me. And if that wasn’t a blow to the old self esteem, I don’t know what is.”
“You…” he began, but trailed off when you stepped closer to him, standing between his legs. He looked almost afraid.
His hand was shaking as he brought it up under your chin, gripping your jaw with such a delicacy, it was like he was handling the finest porcelain in the world.
And the smirk was back, but you only saw it for a fraction of a second, before his large, warm hands were cupping your cheeks and he pulled you softly in. His lips were so warm, much softer than you expected but it was so good, almost too good as you pushed into him. Harrison’s hands moved from your cheeks down your arms, tracing the curves of your waist before he squeezed your ass. You gasped into his mouth, pulling away as you rested your forehead against his. He was panting, breath hot on your wet lips.
“Been wanting to feel that ass for so long,” he whispered.
You moaned out loud, pressing into his chest.
Harrison’s lips moved down your neck and along your jaw, nipping at certain places and sucking on others. He stood from his spot on the back of the couch and suddenly his mouth was at a much better angle. It felt like he was swallowing you whole and you loved it. He tapped your thigh before giving it a squeeze, and you raised it up his leg. He placed his hands underneath your thighs and hoisted you up against him, and as you rose you felt his clothed hardness brush against your core and he rumbled against your throat at the friction.
With your hands in his hair, ruining the perfect style that you’d admired from earlier, he tried to maneuver through the flat as best as he could, trying to find his bedroom.
He shoved the door open, walking you towards his bed until his knees hit the edge of it and he lowered you down against it. You let him go as you lay on your back against his sheets, face flushed and chest rising and lowering with each heavy breath. He stood for a moment longer, admiring your spread form on his bed.
   All for him.
   “So beautiful,” he murmured
“Stop,” you whined, bringing your hands up to cover your chest even though you were still fully clothed.
“No, no, no, darling,” he smiled, kneeling over you and pulling your hands away. You gave little resistance, allowing him to move you like a doll. “Let me see you.”
Fingertips trailing down your abdomen, Harrison found the bottom of your shirt and tugged it upwards. He kissed along the soft skin of your stomach as he moved it up, lips following the hem as he slowly pulled it off of you. When he’d finally tugged it off, he loomed over you and smiled.
“You’re perfect, love,” he murmured. His hands slipped underneath your back and undid the clasp of your bra, taking both that and your shirt and throwing them somewhere into his room. His palm found the mound of one of your breasts, kneading it softly as you threw your head back against the mattress and moaned. He took the opportunity to attach his lips to your neck, sucking harshly as he pinched your nipple. “And you’re all mine.”
Harrison’s attention returned to your breast, his hand still massaging one but his lips finding the nipple of the other. He rolled his teeth over the hardened bud, never quite biting but allowing you to feel the edge of them against it.
“Fuck,” you sighed. “All yours. Only yours, oh fuck.”
“Sound so pretty for me, Y/N,” he sighed. His tongue circled the nipple under his mouth before giving it a hard suck. “Gonna moan like that when I fuck you?”
   “Oh my go—fuck.”
You could barely form words, your brain not even noticing that he’d stopped playing with your breast and his hands were already pushing your pants down your legs. He pulled away from you, helping you out of the jeans you wore and spreading your legs in front of him with his hands on your knees.
“Gonna need an answer, darling,” he teased.
“Yes,” you sighed, the words merely a breath. “Yes, I will.”
   “Mmm good.”
And then one of his unfairly long fingers was on your panties, and you jumped as he circled your clit with the tip of his finger. His short nail dragged against the fabric and you tried to buck up into his touch, but he pulled away before you could.
A long whine left your lips, and he smirked from between your legs.
“Already so sensitive,” he smiled. He dragged to fingers from your folds to your clit, still over the fabric of your panties, before he pressed on the bundle of nerves with a wicked smile on his face. “Did I do this to you, love?”
“Fuck!” you moaned, hips desperately bucking into his hand. “Yes, just for you.”
“No one else makes you feel like this?”
“No—fuck me, oh my god—no one else.”
“So impatient,” he laughed. “Wanted to play with you for a bit, darling.”
You whined at the thought, imagining Harrison toying with you, making you cum again and again with his fingers or his tongue, or maybe edging you until you begged him to fuck you, making your pussy clench though it was around nothing.
“Please,” you whimpered, your hands coming up to rub at your breasts. You were desperate to feel anything. “Please fuck me, Harrison, please.”
   “Since you asked so nicely.”
He was out of his clothes before you even had the chance to beg once more. His boxers were the last to go and you almost choked as you caught sight of his cock.
It was perfect, long and girthy, a drop of precum already forming at the pink tip. You were hit with an urge to lick it away, but he brushed a finger through it and spread it over the length, stroking himself gently. He was already so hard and swollen and you could feel yourself throb at the thought of it inside you.
“You ready, love?” he asked you.
Harrison lowered himself in front of you, hooking his arms under your knees and tugging you closer to him.
You nodded eagerly, hands extended to reach for him.
   “Please, Harrison,” you whined.
“I’ve got you, love,” he muttered, one hand gripping yours as he intertwined your fingers and the other guiding his cock to your entrance. “I’ve got you.”
He sank home in a single thrust, and you screamed at the stretch. He was so big, far bigger than anyone else you’d ever had but he was perfect. It was delicious, the feeling of him inside you. He was hot, hard, and heavy and you felt yourself clench around him.
Harrison groaned as he felt you spasm. He lowered himself above you, pressing his nose under your chin.
“So fucking tight,” he moaned. “Fucking amazing.”
“Move,” you whimpered, hands in his hair. “Please.”
“Don’t wanna cum right away, love,” he laughed. “You that desperate for me?”
   “Fuck, yes.”
His teeth found your throat, sucking the sting away and leaving a purpling mark behind as he pulled out, and you whined at the feeling. But it was short-lived, because he thrust back in again, starting a steady pace of thrusts that had your hands shaking and your abdomen tensed with each brush of his cock against your g-spot.
You were moaning like a wanton whore, loud and embarrassing in any other situation but with the weight of Harrison inside you, it seemed fitting. Whiny moans, his name spilling from your lips like a prayer, hymns of “please” and “fuck” tumbling through the air between the two of you.
“Fuck, you sound so beautiful, Y/N,” he moaned. “So perfect. Could cum just from hearing you say my name.”
He was pounding into you then, hips slapping with a lewd echo of skin against skin. Your legs came up around his waist, your ankles crossing just above his ass. You pulled him by his hair gently until his face was level with yours and you kissed him fiercely, all pressure and lips mashing against teeth.
His teeth closed around your bottom lip and tugged gently, lips sucking around it.
“Fuck, darling,” he moaned. “So good.”
   But then he stopped.
And as he did you whined out loud, a pained sound as you were left quivering and wanting. You gripped at his hair and tried to tug him closer, undulating your hips in a weak attempt to feel him moving inside of you again.
Harrison groaned, sucking at your jaw.
“So desperate for my cock,” he murmured against your skin. “Don’t worry, love, I’ve got you. Turn over for me.”
It was almost laughable how quickly you spun around underneath him after he pulled out, folding your arms under your head and arching your back. Your ass brushed against his cock and you heard him inhale sharply.
You jumped when his large hand collided with the supple flesh of your cheek.
“Such a good girl for me,” he said from above you. “You look gorgeous like this darling, ass in the air just begging me to fuck you.”
   “Please,” you whined. “Harrison, please.”
You turned your head in order to see him, cheek pressed against the mattress. You saw him stroking himself slowly as his other hand kneaded your ass. His hand came down in another quick slap and you mewled, pressing back against him. He rubbed the handprint out with his palm before he lined himself up and sunk back into you again, hands coming down around your head to hold himself up. You felt his hot breath against your shoulder blades before he pressed an open-mouthed kiss between them, just along your spine.
“So fucking perfect, baby,” he sighed. “Feel so fucking good around me.”
You moaned your response, bringing a hand up to grip at his hair. He let you guide him down as you turned your head, his mouth finding yours as he continued to pound into you from behind. Your voice shook as you whined into his mouth.
“Fuck,” you breathed. “Fuck, Harrison I—”
Your words were cut off with a loud shriek, your head turning back to face forward as you bit the pillow in order to silence yourself.
The only sounds you could hear were your own muffled cries and the sound of Harrison’s hips slamming against your ass over and over and over. You could feel your wetness dripping down your thighs and onto the sheets below you. It didn’t look like he would stop any time soon.
But you didn’t want him to.
“Gonna cum for me, baby?” he murmured.
You nodded desperately into the pillow, turning to look at him with teary eyes. The pleasure almost had you crying.
One of his hands reached around your front, fingers rubbing at your clit gently with just enough pressure to have you whimpering into the pillows under him. He hadn’t relented on the pace, still ruthlessly drilling into you with his cock. And with the added stimulation to your clit, you were almost coming undone in an instant.
“H-Harrison,” you panted. “Gonna cum. Gonna fucking cum, oh my God.”
“Yeah, love?” He was panting too, breaths heavy against the back of your neck. “God, you’re amazing.”
Your thighs were shaking around him and your head was thrown back, so close to the edge and so close to tipping over.
“Cum for me, Y/N,” he whispered into your ear. “Cum all over my cock.”
With a pinched groan and a high pitched squeal, you came all over him as your hips stuttered against his hand and over his cock. Your head fell forward against the mattress with a groan.
“Fuck, baby,” he groaned. “I can feel you clenching around me. Did I make you cum that hard? So hard just for me?”
   “Please,” you whimpered. “Harrison.”
“Don’t worry, darling. I’m right behind you.”
And as if on cue, his hips began to stutter as he started groaning against your neck, a loud guttural moan escaping his lips as he stilled inside you. You felt the warmth of him inside you, painting your walls and you sighed in contentment.
“Oh, fuck,” he moaned, dragging out the word, pressing his hips into your ass as he rode out his orgasm.
He groaned as he pulled out. He gently flipped you onto your back, picking up his shirt from the floor and pressing it under your ass to catch the fluid that seeped from your folds. You laughed tiredly as he did so, and he shot you a smile.
“Towels are too far,” he explained.
Harrison took his time cleaning you up. You were already drowsy, hand running through his hair and petting him gently as he wiped his cum away. You winced a couple of times, your folds still sensitive and your pussy still throbbing from the aftermath of your orgasm but it was… calming.
When he was done, he threw the shirt into his hamper, gripping you close to his chest and laughing as he pulled you up to his pillows.
“That was,” he began, curling his body around yours and bringing a knee up between your thighs. “The best sex I’ve ever had.”
“Shut up,” you muttered. Your cheeks were still red.
He kissed the back of your neck, sighing as he settled into a comfortable position. “Never.”
From somewhere on the floor, there was the buzz of a phone. Harrison groaned from behind you.
“I’ll grab it,” you muttered, reaching down until you felt the fabric of his pants and tugged it up.
Patting around it until you felt the weight of his phone, you tugged it out of the pocket and struggled to find the button to turn it on because who has an Android anymore?
Glancing at the screen, you laughed out loud as you read the most recent text notification. Harrison peeked up from over your shoulder, and though you couldn’t see it, you knew his eyes grew wide as he saw it.
Tom: how’d it go? you tell her how you feel yet? it’s hard getting you two alone, you know
Reaching over, he pulled the phone from your hands, muttering “fucking dickhead” under his breath.
“You weren’t meant to see that,” he admitted.
“Yeah, maybe,” you admitted, turning over in his arms so you could face. You gripped his cheeks, pressing a soft kiss to his nose.
   He smiled gently at you.
   “But I’m glad I did.”

A GAME OF DIAMONDS AND HEARTS // H.O.
>> CHAPTER FIVE
“Man is not the master of destiny but a wooden doll strung on a string.” - The Mahabharata, Vyasa
(Frenemies to Lovers! Mob AU! ) Harrison Osterfield x Fem!OC
Word count: 2.65k words
Warning: Smut* [Male masturbation, reference to past sex (mild dom/sub dynamics)], swearing, smoking.
Synopsis: After the sudden death of his uncle and the eccentric multi-millionaire mafia king Lufian Clarke, Harrison Osterfield’s almost decent life is mostly devastated especially when half of what should be rightfully his fortune is transferred to their immediate rival for reasons he doesn’t know. What’s remaining is him trying to figure out how to deal with this collaboration of two rival corporations that don’t belong together and work on the side of the woman he never knew would ever be referred to as his partner in crime while they are dragged into a mess bigger than what they were trained to handle.

Harrison slammed the door of his room, sliding the bolt into place. He marched straight into the bathroom, unbuttoning his shirt and throwing it across the floor.
Bracing his arms on the basin, he met his own eyes in the mirror. This was the day he was eagerly waiting for all these years. The day when he would finally step out of the shadow of his uncle, the great Lufian Clarke and draw his own image in the mafia world. But...
I thought Clarke's scion would be smarter.
Even her previous words were an arrow to his heart. And her new words just managed to rub the right amount of salt over his wounds, successfully bothering him all over again.
If what she claims is true, if Clarke really had claimed half of his empire to her, all by his choice— Harrison groaned at the mere possibility, yet it managed to haunt him.
Was he not worth it? Hasn't he not proven his worth enough to the dead stubborn man? His grip on the marble top tightened as his teeth grit, accentuating the hollowness of his cheekbones.
She wasn't even the leader of her clan, just a top ranking member of a gang.
"A gang." The words sounded funny on his tongue. He chuckled bitterly, feeling the rising bile in his throat.
He turned on the faucet, bending over and splashing cold water over his flushed face. They weren't even a properly systemized Mafia syndicate but a semi-organized street gang, scattered all over the place.
Meeting his eyes in the mirror, again, he watched as the water ran down his face, wetting his white vest shirt. He discarded it, massaging his shoulders, trying to untangle the knots, rubbing across the silver chain that swung by his neck.
He shrugged off the remaining of his garments and stepped into the shower. The water battered his back, hammering against the taut muscles as he stood with his palms sticking against the cold wall, shutting his eyes, inhaling briskly.
No. It wasn't just her words that were bothering him.
It was all of her.
Right from the day he had first met her, Sandhya Omar was the physical manifestation of trouble.
Sandhya Omar was also his first failed mission.
Two years ago. That Casino in Vegas.
He slammed his fist against the wall, feeling the vibrations rippling through his muscles, advancing the pain through his bones.
How could he forget that night? How could he ever forget that smug look of hers? Oh, what he could have done to bang that smirk off her face!
Contrary, he did nothing and instead let her take control.
That night he lost against her in a stupid game of cards. That night he found himself crazy and desperate for her.
He brought his fist to his lips. Torn and tattered knuckles, fresh blood oozing out of them, washed by the water. He could taste it on his tongue.
That night he let her touch him, torture him in the most sweetest manner. That night her lips traced over every corner of his skin, burning through his flesh.
His gut churned at the memory.
She wasn't even the prettiest woman he had encountered. He also had a fair share of one-night stands with pretty women that he bet could compete with Helen of Troy... Even then, even after two years, she could still get him... crazy... desperate...
She didn't let him touch her but worshipped every inch of his body. She marked him all over his chest but never let a scratch corrode her skin. She got him over the edge multiple times not allowing his release, bouncing over his dick, her perky breasts dying to be caressed.
If those weren't torturous enough—oh, the noises she made, falling apart, pressed against his skin—
His cock twitched with fresh lust.
His right arm trailed down, long fingers closing around his girth. He drew in a ragged breath as his hand started pumping across his shaft. Long and slow rubs, right wrist twisting as his left hand pressed against the wall tighter, occasionally pushing back the wet curls the fell over his eyes.
Her image flashed in his head. Big black eyes staring at his clear blue ones. He tried to push it away. Only to lose all over again, pumping furiously against his hand, the veins in his arms protruding with the pressure he applied. The sound of his breathing was defeated by the sound of the shower along with the obscene squelching noises his cock made as it twitched, squeezed between his fingers.
Moving in and out of his grip, it turned wetter every passing second, soaked in his precum--sweat--water--or all three of them. He felt it spasm. With a low grunt, he came in his hand, slumping against the chilly tiles. He watched his seed wash down the drain as he rode through his orgasm, slowly stroking over his softening length.
How cruel was it to hate a person's guts with every drop of blood in your body, only to find yourself jerking off to them?
"Pathetic." He mumbled, out of breath.
***
Sandhya woke up covered in silk sheets over a mattress softer than (what she assumed) clouds. The morning sky had entered her space, tearing through the window shades, manifesting itself as streaks of orange-blue light.
She felt better than yesterday even though her sleep was improper and a faint soreness rested in the region below her neck and above her breasts. Her going-to-be-the-best-day-of-her-life-turning-dreadful rushed back into her memory lane.
Harrison Osterfield.
The way he gripped her last night. She could still feel the ghost of his arms pressed against her body.
In an attempt to calm down, she sat up, scrubbing a hand over her face, pushing back her hair, swallowing her anger.
She hated ruining her mood at the beginning of the day. He wasn't worth it. Also, her stomach rumbled with hunger.
She peeled the sheets from her body and walked up to the dressing mirror, glancing at her face. She hadn't even removed her makeup from the previous day. She didn't even remember falling asleep.
Studying her face, she irked at the smeared mascara that almost made her look like a raccoon. Her eyes stopped their trail and focused on the three faint scars she discovered over her slender neck.
They weren't there before.
Her brows pulled together as she moved closer to the mirror, bending over, trying to take a better look at them. Grazing a single finger across them, she could feel the slightly bumpy but fine red lines sketched over her light brown skin, resembling paper cuts. Or, perhaps, a very sharp knife.
That bastard.
A heated flush of irritation rose along her skin. The cuts weren't deep enough to hurt her in any manner, they would probably not even last a week, but they were enough to shake every bone in her body with fury.
Inheriting Clarke's wealth and power was virtuous enough. Having her own mafia, run after her life was the inherent vice. But working alongside a jerk...?
She didn't even realize she was clenching her jaw until she felt the tension rise to her forehead. Her fists were clenched too.
If anything, this agreement now felt more like a forced marriage. As if she were a princess married away to an arrogant, equally ignorant, self-righteous prince of a faraway kingdom.
Disgust lodged in the pit of her stomach, twisting into nausea. She tried to shrug off the ridiculous parallel her mind had just drawn.
She wasn't married to Harrison Osterfield. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not in a million years. Not in an eternity.
She drew in a shaky breath. Her eyes searched for the coat she had worn yesterday. Finding it lying across the foot of the bed, she picked it up, rummaging through the inside pockets, fishing out a pack of cigarettes along with a lighter.
She needed them to start her day now. Now that it was officially ruined. Breakfast could wait. She would also need to fix the way she looked. And change the clothes she was wearing especially those skin-tight jeans. She couldn't stand in them for another minute. How had she even managed to sleep in them?
Sitting on the edge of the bed, she plucked a stick from the pack, languidly pressing the yellow filter between her lips and lighting the other end with the flick of her thumb over the lighter. With a long drag, she relaxed her shoulders, throwing herself on the mattress. The grey smoke filled her lungs. Her other fist unclenched.
She sunk further down on the bed, lying on her back and squeezed her eyes shut. A drowning feeling rested in the middle of her chest as the smoke escaped through her nose and from the corner of her lips.
She took another drag.
If the past day was tough, she was well aware that the passing days will be tougher.
***
Navigating through the hallways, dimly lit with yellow electric lamps, Sandhya walked on her bare feet (the cloud like soft carpets were screaming for attention), carefully studying whatever came in her path. She had woken up a household staff, getting herself something comfortable to wear. They had a huge collection of dresses and makeup supplies for a place lacking significantly in female representation. She had tossed the dresses for a comfortable hoodie, probably the softest piece of fabric she had ever worn and a pair of shorts. She was just looking to be comfortable for now.
Anyway, she continued to walk through the space, passing through numerous corridors, now bathed and feeling fresh, but hungrier than before, desperately in search of the kitchen. She walked across a trail of doors, massive, illumined by spotlights reflecting over the giant marble columns that surrounded them. Probably more guest suites. In its Godzilla like size, the mansion's symmetry of the architecture and the attention to detail made it exquisite even for the largest of free spaces. They seemed homey. Habitable.
"Wow." Her lips formed the words. Although she knew better ways to spend money than on liabilities such as these.
Merely wondering about the electricity charges or the number of staff members it required to manage a monster like this... Her head started hurting.
She paused below a giant black-and-white portrait of Lufian Clarke, steps faltering a bit. He stood tall against the wall, his fingers pressed against the side of his head. His signature grey beard was nicely trimmed, adorning his jawline, complimenting his perfectly coiffed hair. He looked elegant. He looked undead.
No wonder he was once listed amongst the greatest film stars that ever walked on Earth before parting into the mob business. Funny (not surprising), he overthrew everyone in it too!
A spark of confidence ignited in her heart. If Clarke had chosen her to be his successor, he must have seen something in her. She could be—special.
Her gaze landed on the entrance of the library that stood merely six feet away from the portrait. Just from observing it from afar, she could tell it was at least three-storeyed.
For another day. Sandhya tried to drive away from the temptation, climbing down the spiral staircase, knowing well, she would starve if she went there.
She found herself standing in the middle of an octagonal hall ignited by the giant chandelier suspended from the gold-patterned ceiling, high enough to consume three floors in their entirety. She was here last night, just was not in the condition or mood to observe anything. And now all she could sense or see was luxury. Leather sofas with embedded remotes, wall-sized TV screens, a large dining area, wall-to-wall bookshelves creating a fortress around easy chairs and lamps along with a reception area to the left corner. It looked more like a waiting room and nothing like a waiting room at the same time.
Her eyes finally landed on the silver kitchen door. She flung it open. It resembled the cooking area of a five-star restaurant more than any household kitchen. Not that she expected otherwise. But it was vacant. Clear counters, empty utensils and not a single human being at sight.
Sandhya felt relieved upon spotting a giant double door refrigerator, and a series of racks adjacent to it, seating a larger variety of loaves of bread than she could ever name.
However, it was a disappointment that the fridge only contained jelly and peanut butter apart from being packed with uncooked ingredients that couldn't be eaten raw. Even if the butter and jelly were of the superior most quality, prepared in the same space she was standing in, by the best chefs in the whole of the country, it was still a massive disappointment.
She, nevertheless, picked up a loaf, one that didn't look too fancy, slicing it with a knife. She had barely turned the lid of the jar when a voice startled her.
"The cooks will prepare fresh breakfast in a while."
Somehow she managed to not drop the peanut butter jar, turning on her feet to take a look at the intruder. A guy wearing a crisp black suit, his hair wet, red and curly, sitting over his head. He was holding a briefcase. He seemed young and somewhat familiar.
"Harry," he introduced himself, stepping closer, stretching a hand.
"Harry Holland," he presented his full name.
The switch flipped in her head. "You and... Tom--"
He cuts her off, pulling his hand back and taking a step away, "Yeah, we are brothers."
Nodding, her vision fell back on her breakfast as she assembled a sandwich. "Any idea how long they'll take to be here?"
She took in a bite, searching him for answers. He seemed to think before he fished out his phone noting the time. "Not before seven-thirty." He slid the device back in.
"And what time is it now?"
"Uhh... Six?"
She hummed, assembling another sandwich.
There was a short silence surrounding them before he decided to break it. "I... I gotta leave." He pointed at the door.
"This early?" She questioned, face contorted in confusion.
"Just some work." He shrugged.
Sandhya studied him, her look turning sour.
"See you later, I guess?" He excused himself, breaking her stance and passing a tight-lipped smile in her direction.
"Sure." She responded nonchalantly, dropping the sandwich on the plate as he walked out.
The Holland brothers, now that she had met both of them, felt a bit peculiar to her. Probably she was overthinking or she was just being careful. She slid a small knife in her clothes, the one she managed to swipe moments before.
Noticing the big window on the other side of the kitchen, she quietly walked up to it, sliding the curtains to the side, just enough to see.
A black Mercedes coupe was standing where last night the car she was brought in stopped. Harry strode towards it, telling the driver something before sliding inside the back seat. She watched carefully as the car drove around the fountain, moving in the path lined with colourful foliage, being actively trimmed and watered by two gardeners.
She dragged the curtains back when the car left the giant mansion gates, turning on the coffee machine. She pressed her palms over the counter, realizing where she was currently living in. The house where Clarke was murdered. The house where the murderer... or murderers... were roaming free, disguised as anyone among them.
A chill crept through her spine.
Pouring the hot coffee into a mug, she decided the first course of action. She must learn about Clarke's employees and their connection with him.
And she would also need Harrison's assistance for that.
She sighed heavily, her head rolling back.
Ugh.

Happy Diwali, My Love
A/N: sooo it's diwali here and I thought, why not write something on it? Enjoy my lovelies! Also this is an entry for @diwali-fest 's event!
Masterlist
Pairing-Harrison Osterfield x desi!girlfriend!reader
Warnings-none
It's diwali and this time, Harrison is celebrating it with you and your family in India.
He is very excited as it is his first time celebrating this festival and also a bit nervous about meeting your parents.
He wears a kurta to make a good first impression and also learns some hindi greetings.
*the author is swooning here*
Like, he goes 'namaste uncle and aunty' and they're so impressed with him and you're there trying not to faint.
I mean, hindi in his voice? Dhhdbshsjdjj
You spend the day in the kitchen preparing sweets and snacks with your mother and also make the Rangoli outside your house.
(he secretly takes candid shots of you while you're doing your tasks)
In the evening, you decorate the house with lights and diyas, and he helps you put them up in different patterns.
You then put your new lehenga that you had bought for the occasion and made a simple small braid, leaving the rest of the hair open, put on some makeup and wore some jhumkis and a gold chain. (Bindi as well)
He's so smitten with you when he sees you in this look, it takes all his willpower to not just grab you and kiss you senseless till both of you are out of breath.
"oh my god, you-you look so beautiful and gorgeous!"
"you're the one to say, Haz! You look so handsome in this kurta!"
You spend the evening bursting crackers.
He takes so many photos of you and posts them on his instagram, captioning it 'wouldnt want to be anywhere else than right here with my beautiful princess😍😘'
You post a picture of him in a kurta as well, captioning it 'my handsome prince is rocking it!😍😍'
Tom is shipping you both so hard.
While your parents are busy talking to your neighbours, he steals a kiss from you when no one else is watching, and hugs you.
"happy diwali my love."
"happy diwali to you too, baby."
I'm soft now pls someone make this happen 🙈

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 stays quiet and Tom's smirk grew wider when no one said a thing.
"I object." Y/N says. Everyone gasps and Tom's jaw drops. Bradley's eyes widen in shock and pats Tom's back, a subtle way of letting him know that he's there for him. Amadis smiles to himself and says a silent 'thank you' to God.
"Wha-Why?!" Tom asks with confusion written all over his face.
Y/N takes a deep breath and looks in Tom's eyes. Those brown eyes she once loved are now replaced with blue eyes owned by the new man she loves.
"You're just having cold feet, love." Tom desperately tries to change Y/N's mind.
"I'm so sorry, Tom." Y/N cries. "I don't love you anymore and I realized that I can't marry you while pretending to love you. It wouldn't be fair to you."
"I also know what happened in Prague. I know you slept with someone else. I just acted like I didn't know, but I can't stay with you and let you think I'm stupid and that I wouldn't know or find out. It hurts a lot, Tom." She adds.
Y/N turns to look at Bradley and says, "You knew about him sleeping with someone else and you never had the decency to tell me. I treated you like a friend and you couldn't even do the right thing."
Bradley just looks down in shame.
She turns back to Tom, "You and I know that our relationship hasn't been the best lately. It's been falling apart and we don't even know each other anymore. Tom, you're a great man and you're so much more than what the public portrays you. Sleeping around is just your way of dealing with things and you have to change that, because one day you'll meet someone who's more than enough for you. I promise you that. That 'someone' isn't me and I'm sorry.
"I care about you so much and it sucks because even after what you did, I still wish you the best. I sincerely do and I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I tried everything I could to love you again, but I couldn't anymore. I'm sorry."
With that, she takes her purse from Saoirse and runs away. Amadis, who's seated at the back, runs after her. It was now time for fate to step in.
Tom just stands there with tears streaming down his face. He feels humiliated and he feels bad for being so insensitive to what Y/N was feeling. It's too late now. Tom wished he could turn back time, but it was impossible. Not even all his money could fix the damage. All he had to do was keep moving forward.
Y/N's father looks at Tom and shakes his head.
"Y/N, wait up!" Amadis shouts as he runs after her. Despite her heavy down, she still manages to outrun the angel. Y/N glances behind her and slows down when she sees Amadis catching up to her. Once she comes to a full stop, Amadis reaches her. He slightly bends over with his hands on his knees as he catches his breath.
"Where are you going?" Amadis asks as his breathing turns normal.
"I don't know." Y/N sighs. "I don't even know what I'm doing. I don't know if I made the right decision back there. Maybe Tom's right; maybe it's just cold feet. Should I go back there?"
"What? No!" Amadis says and shakes his head. "What you did back there was super brave, actually. Some people wouldn't even do that and they'd just accept their fate; they'd marry a terrible person."
"Tom's not THAT bad." Y/N defends. "He's got some good points, but at the same time, I like someone else. I think I love them already."
"It sounds like you're confused. Who's the other person?" Amadis asks even though he already knew.
Y/N looks at him and sighs, "It's Harrison. He's just such a great guy, y'know? He's such a gentleman and he's so kind and funny and chill. He's not arrogant and he's simple. I love him."
"If you love him, the logical thing to do is to go to him already." Amadis says.
"But then there's Tom. I kinda still feel something for him." Y/N admits.
"You're in a pickle. Let me help you." Amadis says. "I can help you decide really quick."
"Okay." Y/N nods.
"Texts or handwritten letters?" Amadis asks.
"What does that have to do with my situation?" Y/N questions.
"Just answer it! Trust me." Amadis says.
"Okay, um, handwritten letters." Y/N answers.
"Harry Potter or Star Wars?"
"Y/Choice"
"Natural hair color or dyed hair?"
"Dyed."
"Expensive or cheap?"
"Cheap."
"Tom or Harrison?"
"Harrison."
"There you go! You finally decided." Amadis smiles to himself. "Let's go find him!"
"Wait, that's so clever!" Y/N exclaims in shock.
"Thank you. Let's talk about that later, okay? Harrison is doing his errands with Harley, so he's out buying stuff. He's around in town somewhere. Let's go get your man!" Amadis grins. Y/N smiles and both of them run to the street where there are a lot of stores.
𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐄, 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐘 𝐑𝐔𝐍 𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒...
"We've been walking around for ages!" Harley groans. Harley didn't like shopping. He would get bored and his feet would hurt. Plus, he didn't like it when his mum would ask him about clothes that he could care less about.
"I know, buddy. I'm so sorry, but I'm the only one available to run errands today. Timmy has work." Harrison gives him a sad smile before turning his attention back to the apples. Harrison picks ten apples and puts it in the cart. Harrison goes to the next aisle with Harley pushing the cart next to him.
"Why don't you and Timmy just go shopping when both of you are free?" Harley whines. As much as he likes spending time with Harrison, he's still the same ten year old who gets easily bored.
"Harley, if I didn't shop today, Timmy and I will starve for the next three days because Timmy will be free by then." Harrison chuckles. "Relax, okay? I'll buy you a little something later. You name it."
Harley groans as they continue to shop for food. Harley's mind wanders to how Amadis is doing on the mission. If he recalls correctly, their mission will end soon and he won't see Amadis ever again.
Not seeing Amadis ever again is something he's not ready for, but he knows that it's inevitable. Harley got so used to seeing Amadis that he wouldn't know how to go on his day without him.
After thirty minutes of going from aisle to aisle, Harrison finally finishes grocery shopping. Harley helps Harrison put the items on the checkout conveyor belt and waits at the other side of the counter to get the bags. After paying, Harrison carries two paper bags and Harley carries one. They exit the grocery store and move on to the next errand.
"Where to next?" Harley asks.
"I figured we should go to mine and Timmy's first to drop off these things and then we'll go out again to pick a decent dishwasher. Is that okay?" Harrison asks. Harley's comfort has been his number priority recently and he didn't even know why.
"Okay." Harley says. The two of them walked to the apartment and immediately went to the unit to put away the groceries.
"How do you think Y/N's wedding is coming along?" Harley asks as he puts the eggs in the fridge. Harrison glances at him before putting the flour in the cupboard.
"Um... I think it's great." Harrison answers. He wasn't sure how to answer Harley's question. "I mean, Tom Holland is rich and all, so she probably got her dream wedding."
Harley nods as they continue putting things away in silence. Five minutes later, everything is neatly stocked away and the two make their way out of the apartment again to buy a dishwasher.
They walk out of the apartment building and when they turn a corner, they bump into Amadis and Y/N.
"I'm so- Y/N?! Amadis?! What are you guys doing here? Especially you, Y/N." Harrison says in shock as he holds Y/N by the arms to prevent her from falling.
She looks at him and smiles, "Harrison!"
"Aren't you supposed to get married?" Harrison lightly chuckles.
Y/N stands up properly and fixes her dress. She shakes her head, cups his face and smiles, "I left him."
Harrison's eyes widened in shock upon hearing what she just said. Amadis and Harley watch the scene unfold. Harley whispers, "How many hours do we have left?"
Amadis looks at his watch.
𝐅𝐈𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐔𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐒.
"We only have fifteen minutes left." Amadis whispers sadly.
"Oh." Harley says.
"Why did you leave him?" Harrison asks.
"I don't love him anymore. I stopped loving him a long time ago." She tells him. "I love you, Harrison. I really do and anything you say and do can't stop that."
"You love me?" He asks and she just nods. "I'm not him, though. I can't give you everything you want and I can't take you to different places every weekend and-"
"Yes, you're not him. You're not him and that's what makes you different and it's better. I want you and I want to stay with you." She says in all honesty.
"I'd love that." Harrison smiles. "Oh, and I love you too."
They stare at each other and Amadis rolls his eyes, "Just kiss already!"
They look at Amadis shyly before looking at each other.
"I kinda forgot they were there." Harrison whispers.
"Same here." Y/N says, grinning. They lean in and close the gap with a sweet kiss. Amadis and Harley smile at each other and give each other a well deserved high-five.
"We did it! They're together!" Harley exclaims in glee. Y/N and Harrison pull away from each other and they look at Harley in confusion.
"What?" Y/N asks.
"We have ten minutes left." Amadis says after quickly glancing at his watch. He looks at Harley and nods, "Let's just tell them."
"Tell us what?" Harrison questions. "What's going on?"
Harley takes a deep breath and sighs. He looks at Harrison and Y/N; his parents. Well, in the timeline's future. This past week, he really got to know his parents on a different level and on a different point of view. He's going to miss it, truly. He got to hang out with his parents the way he used to and he knew that when he goes back to the future, he won't experience it again.
"I'm from the future." Harley confesses and looks at Harrison. "I wasn't lying when I told you that I'm your son."
"Both of you are my parents and I did something wrong that brought me back here; to the past. I had a week to make things right and I got some help from Amadis. He's literally an heaven sent from Heaven and those people in the apartment we were staying at? They're all angels and saints." Harley says.
Harrison and Y/N didn't say anything, so Harley continued talking.
"My mission was to get you two together, so that the future doesn't get messed up. Amadis and I came up with plans to set you two up and as a way to get both of you two to feel something for each other. Oh and the Prague thing? Amadis went there to check on Tom."
"Did Tom really cheat on me? Or was it part of your plan too?" Y/N asks.
Amadis shakes his head, "No. That really happened. If it were part of the plan, I won't ever go back to Heaven."
"Okay, then." Y/N says.
"Today's the last of the mission and now that you guys kissed, the mission's over. I'm going back to the future now and our family will be alright." Harley says with a smile.
“Family? What family?” Y/N asks.
“How do we know you’re telling the truth?” Harrison challenges. “How do we know that you’re not some crazy kid?”
Just when Harley is giving up, Amadis tells Harley to check his pocket. Harley looks confused, but he checks it anyway. His eyes widen when he pulls out their family picture with everyone reappearing again. Harley quickly shows Y/N and Harrison and they’re surprised to see it. They didn’t really expect actual proof.
“Everything makes sense now.” Harrison whispers as he smiles at Harley. “That’s why I feel so attached to you. I’m your father!”
Harley smiles and nods before walking towards him and hugs him. Harrison hugs back and Y/N smiles at the sight.
“This is so much to take in, but we have so little time.” Y/N tears up. She looks at Harrison and says, “I can’t believe we have three beautiful kids! Now, I can’t imagine my life if I pushed through in marrying Tom. I’m glad I left or we wouldn’t have them, especially Harley.”
Harley pulls away from Harrison and turns to Y/N. She moves his hair out of the way to see her son’s beautiful face.
“In case future me didn’t tell you, you're so talented and smart for your age. I’m so proud of you and I know that you’ll do amazing things. As much as I want you to stay here, you have to go back. I enjoyed spending time with you and I’ll truly miss it.” Y/N tells him and Harley cries. They give each other a hug and Harley says, “Thanks, mum.”
“Is it early to say ‘I love you’? Because I really want to say it before you leave.” She chuckles lightly and pulls away.
“No, it’s not too early.” Harley smiles and wipes his tears.
“I love you.” Y/N says with a smile. She holds Harrison’s hand. “We love you.”
Amadis clears his throat, “Harley, we need to go now.”
Harley frowns and says, “I love you both, okay? I’ll see you later.”
An unexpected rain started to pour and all of them looked surprised except for Amadis. He knew it was going to happen. He just didn’t say anything because if he did, then saying goodbye would be real even though he didn’t want it to be.
“That’s odd. It was sunny just a minute ago.” Harrison says with a jacket over his head, Harley’s head and Y/N’s.
“Harley, it’s time.” Amadis says before turning to Harrison and Y/N. “It was so lovely meeting you! Both of you will have a wonderful life. Trust me, I know. The rain will wash away your memories of me and Harley. Not only you, but also the people who interacted with me or Harley for the past few days.”
“What? Why?” Y/N asks.
“It’s part of keeping the timeline intact.” Amadis says sadly. “Something will go wrong if you won;t let your memories of us wash off. We can’t go back to the places we belong.”
Harley understands and turns to his parents, “I’ll see you guys later, anyway. We can just create new memories.”
“Yeah, I’d like that.” Harrison says with a smile and ruffles Harley’s hair. He glances at Y/N, “Ready to get the memories of our son washed away?”
“I think so.” Y/N replies. She kisses Harley’s forehead before saying, “I just want him to go back and we can hang out with him again. I’m ready.”
Harrison puts down his jacket as both he and Y/N get soaked by the rain. The rain poured harder and before they knew it, their memories of Amadis and Harley were gone. They look at each other in confusion as to why they’re standing in the rain.
“My apartment is closer. We can get dry there?” Harrison suggests.
“Sure! I just want to wear something warm.” Y/N giggles and they ran hand-in-hand to Harrison’s shared apartment with Timmy.
Harley turns to Amadis and says, “Now what?”
“We have three minutes left and it’s time for our goodbye.” Amadis steps forward and embraces Harley. “You know, I don’t like kids, but you’re an exception. You’re a pretty cool 10 year old.”
“Thanks and you’re the coolest angel ever!” Harley smiles and pulls away.
“Be good, okay? No more bad wishes.” Amadis says sternly. “You better promise that, Harley.”
“I promise!” Harley exclaims. “Can you at least give me a sign that you’re watching me whenever I look up at the sky?”
“I’ll think about it.” Amadis says and Harley pouts. “Literally. I have to think about it because I don’t know what sign to send.”
“Just keep it simple.” Harley says.
“Okay, then. If it’s during the day, the sign is a cloud. If it’s at night, the sign is a star.” Amadis decides.
“How will I know it’s you?” Harley asks. “There are so many clouds and stars!”
“Trust me, you’ll know.” Amadis says and glances at his watch only to see that they have one minute left.
“Amadis, you’re fading away.” Harley states.
“Yeah and you’re fading too. It’s okay, we’ll be fine. This is our way of transport.” Amadis chuckles lightly. “I don’t want to say goodbye yet.”
“Same here.” Harley says. “I read a quote somewhere and it’s from Winnie the Pooh. I think it fits us right now.”
“Let’s hear it.” Amadis smiles.
“We didn’t realize we were making memories. We just knew we were having fun.” Harley recites with a small smile.
“And that’s true.” Amadis nods and sees that they only have five seconds left.
𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄
“Five seconds left.” Amdis says. “I wish I could hug you, but we obviously can’t because we’re basically spirits now.”
“I wish we could hug too.” Harley says.
𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑
“I’ll start praying to God, so that I could deliver a message to you, okay?” Harley says. “I just hope you could hear it.”
“I hang outside the prayer room to eavesdrop. I’ll definitely hear your prayers.” Amadis chuckles lightly.
𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄
“I love you, Amadis. You’re like an older brother that I never had.” Harley smiles sweetly.
“I love you too, lil’ guy.” Amadis says. “I’ll watch over you, okay? I’ll also send in some angels when you’re hurt or something.”
“I’d love that. Thank you.” Harley says with tears in his eyes.
𝐓𝐖𝐎
“I’ll miss you.” Harley says. “I loved meeting you.”
𝐎𝐍𝐄
“It was nice meeting you. It was an honor to be with you on my first Earthly mission. Goodbye. Take care, Harley.” Amadis tears up before completely fading away.
“Amadis!” Harley shouts as he fades away too.
The rainy street is now occupied by a few people who were oblivious to the whole exchange. Y/N and Harrison are enjoying a cup of tea, Amadis is back in Heaven, and Harley is going back to his rightful place in time.
“Harley.”
“Harley.”
“Harley!”
Harley quickly sits up on his bed and sees Harrison. He looks around and he’s back in his room. He rubs his eyes as Harrison opens the curtains to let the sun’s rays enter Harley’s room through the window.
“You have to wake up now if you want to hang out with your uncle Tom.” Harrison says as he picks up the mess on Harley’s bedroom floor.
“I love you, dad.” Harley blurts out which makes Harrison stop what he’s doing.
“What?” Harrison says.
“I love you and I’m sorry about what I said a week ago after my talent show. I’m sure you had your reasons and I’m sorry for not hearing you out and for saying that I wished uncle Tom to be my dad. I don’t want him to-”
“Buddy, slow down.” Harrison says. “What do you mean a week ago? Your talent show was last night.”
“What?” Harley’s confused.”I was gone for one week!”
“Nope.” Harrison shakes his head. “You must’ve had an intense dream. Tell me all about it when you come downstairs for breakfast. Your uncle Tom will pick you up in two hours, so take a shower and I’ll meet you downstairs. Okay?”
“Okay.” Harley says.
Harrison leans down to kiss the top of Harley’s head and says, “I forgive you and I love you too. I’m sorry I don’t show it enough.”
Harrison takes Harley’s laundry basket and leaves the room. As soon as the door closes, Harley gets out of bed and quickly walks to his window to look up at the sky. He looks at every cloud to search for Amadis' sign and his eyes stop at the cloud that’s shaped like an Apple watch.
“He sees me.” Harley whispers to himself and waves at the Apple watch-shaped cloud.
“Harley! If you’re not taking a shower now, at least come down for breakfast!” Harrison shouts from downstairs.
Harley stops waving at the cloud and shouts back, “I’m coming!”
He rushes out of his room and goes downstairs to eat his breakfast. Harley feels different; a good kind of different. He didn’t know what that means, but he’s sure that starting from this day onwards, things will be different and he’s excited for it.

not so subtle - part twelve
Tumblr media
Pairing: Harrison Osterfield x reader Word Count: 4.8k~ Warning: swearing, angst A/N: me posting two parts to “not so subtle” in the same month? it’s more likely than you think. no it’s not. don’t get used to it. if you haven’t read previous parts, just know there’s a brief mention to a specific event. can’t really say much else without spoiling the part. sure would be cool if y’all left feedback, but no worries. anyways, enjoy!
Tumblr media
At one point was enough truly enough? The question grappled in your mind.
It was exhausting believing you had a chance, that Harrison would eventually reciprocate your feelings. How many times had you two played this game, flitting back and forth between love and hate? How many times had you lost? How many times had you claimed to be finished yet still yearned over the possibility that he might change his mind?
Maybe it was time to actually call it quits. Break this off. Be done with Harrison for good.
As you stared at his number in your contacts, you wondered if you impacted his life the way he had with yours? Would he think of you from time to time? Would he even notice your disappearance from his life?
No, he probably won’t.
You clicked the ‘delete contact’ button, melancholy flooding your senses. Goodbye to all the memories. Goodbye to the potential of something beautiful. Goodbye, Harrison.
Deleting Harrison’s number began a peculiar cleanse in your life. Did you want it? Hell no. Did you need it? Probably.
Considerable changes began from that simple act. You unfollowed him from social media, completely eliminating him from your life. It hurt simply looking at him, and thirst traps just added to the pain. Out of sight, out of mind.
You no longer hung out with Tom and company. You stopped attending the swanky functions. You were so tired of the pity, tired of the whispers, tired of the sympathetic looks as Harrison thrived without you. Were you pitiful? Okay, yeah. But no need to make it blatantly obvious.
The dresses in your trunk were placed back into your closet. Gone were the days of preparing for extravagant parties. None of them mattered anymore.
No surprise your actions warranted concern among friends. Were you okay? No. Were you spiraling? Not yet. Why didn’t you want to go out? Why go out when staying in never harmed anyone?
It was easy enough to make up excuses. You insisted you were focusing on school, tired of the travel and extraneous activities. You could go back to the life before Harrison where you didn’t see celebrities on the daily. You could do normal.
Taking Kimberly’s advice, you enrolled in a random course just for the hell of it. Well, technically for new learning opportunities. Yay higher education. You joined a sociology class, completely boggled by the subject. Even with a complete lack of knowledge, you made new friends and began hanging out with people who didn’t know you as Lil Skunk.
You were making progress slowly but surely. You couldn’t wallow. You wouldn’t.
You went on dates. Well, you went on a date. Technically you weren’t even aware till halfway through. Sarah just instructed you to go to the Italian restaurant near campus wearing something nice. That’s where you were greeted by Garrett.
Garrett should’ve been the one. He was sweet, smiling at your terrible jokes. He was kind, paying for the meal without any presumptions. He was the perfect gentleman, driving you to your apartment and politely asking to kiss you. Even so, you couldn’t do a second date. Garrett had been everything any rational person would want. Except he wasn’t Harrison. Fuck rationality.
You wanted to go back to life before Harrison Osterfield. It was one where you fussed over grades, pined over regular boys, and gushed about potential relationships. Life would be easier if he simply disappeared from your mind.
Yet he haunted your thoughts constantly. You found yourself doing double takes of the blond shaggy haired men walking around campus. Was that him? Was he back? No, of course not; your imagination was messing around. You desperately wished that his presence would fade quicker, disappearing into oblivion.
Your friends gradually backed off, allowing you this endeavor for normalcy. And for a while Emma kept quiet when you declined her invitations. She listened attentively to stories featuring your new friends, keeping her jealousy at bay. She nodded tensely, faking smiles as you recounted your date with Garrett. But she drew the line when it came to Halloween.
“You have to come with me! This is our holiday!” she pleaded when you declined the invitation to the Halloween bash. It was true that you both loved the holiday, always celebrating together. She’d be damned if anyone, especially a boy, got in the way. “Please? I get it’s hard to see Harrison, but do this for me!”
Your stomach lurched at the prospect of seeing him again. What would he say if you saw one another? Would he pretend nothing happened or ignore you? He wouldn’t care. Harrison doesn’t care. You repeated the mantra in your head, finally conceding to the party.
It was the mantra you recited when you agreed to another teletubby costume. You weren’t attending to impress anyone. If the costume repelled people, that was perfectly fine. Viva la teletubby lifestyle.
Arriving (not so fashionably) late, the party was in full swing with music blaring into the street. You trailed behind Emma and Tom, counting down when you could finally leave. The splashy environment that once was enthralling seemed superficial now.
Despite your sullen demeanor, your friends insisted you’d lighten up after a couple of drinks. Alcohol doesn’t solve everything but go off. Guiding the group to the bar, your best friend eagerly handed you shots while her boyfriend urged you to have fun.
“I haven’t seen you in a while and I want everyone to be happy!” Tom exclaimed, his eyes shining brightly. How you missed this kid’s optimism. You downed two shots causing them to cheer loudly. They pulled you to the dance floor where in mere minutes you found yourself lost in a sea of strangers. Perhaps it was time to sneak out.
A familiar child’s shriek halted your plans. Turning around, it was the one and only India Hemsworth watching you with fervent excitement. “You’re Laa Laa!” she squealed rushing up to you. Well, now you knew the name of the character.
“Laa Laa! Up! Up!” she ordered, her hands fisting in the air towards you.
“What do we say, India?” you spoke firmly. No way were you letting this child take advantage of you again. At least not without some manners.
“Pleaaaase!” You laughed as you picked her up. She tightly wound her arms around your neck, smooshing her face against yours. “I missed you!” she giggled.
“Yeah. I guess I missed you too, booger.”
A couple seconds later the rest of the Hemsworth children were unabashedly hurling themselves your direction. “Laa Laa!” “I love you, Laa Laa!” One clung tightly to your leg while the other tried their best to wrap their arms around your stomach.
“Well done” the voice of Asgard’s king rung out behind you. You spun around to see Chris Hemsworth...in a teddy bear costume. Interesting. “You came as another teletubby this year. Quite clever.” While the compliment normally would’ve made you pass out, there was something about his outfit that didn’t have you overwhelmed like usual.
“Thank you?”
“Glad to know my children are in capable hands” he clapped his hand on your padded shoulder before breezing away. Come back here and take care of your damn children, sir.
Once again you were relegated as the babysitter. No surprise more children joined the fun as they saw the Hemsworths climbing all over you. So much for escaping or drunken fun. It almost made you want to charge the celebrities parents for the shenanigans you endured. They had money to spare, right?
Hours flew by and tuckered out your energy. The constant screaming had become too much, forcing you to take a well deserved break.
Wandering to the backyard, you were surprised to find the space empty. Finally some peace and quiet. You shuffled to the grass, plopping down with your hands propped slightly backwards. Taking a slow, deep breath, you began to unwind.
“Mind if I join you?” a familiar voice sent tingles up the back of your spine. Fuck! Abort! You wanted to hide, but it was too late.
Looking up you saw Jessica peering down with a smile. Jealousy rose as you observed her outfit. Of course she’d look good as Velma Dinkley, pulling off the orange turtleneck and red skirt.
“Oh, I was gonna leave” you lied, starting to stand.
“Please stay” she insisted. Leaning forward she placed a hand on your mitt. “I don’t know anyone here, really. And I’d like to chat with someone who isn’t going to name drop every thirty seconds.”
Don’t say yes. Don’t say yes. Do not under any circumstance say yes.
“Sure” you reluctantly agreed.
Crap.
You expected conversing with Jessica to be pure torture. You expected her to be vapid and self centered, for her to make you feel like a loser.
You didn’t expect her to be surprisingly hilarious and quick witted. You didn’t expect her to confide her future plans of becoming a veterinarian. You sure weren’t expected her to admit that she hated these parties and that she only came to the States to visit her younger brother.
The longer you conversed, the more you realized how genuinely lovely she was both inside and out. She was the total package, everything you wished to be. Of course she would be. It’s why Harrison chose her.
“Are you alright?” she asked concerned as you teared up.
“Y-Yeah. Sorry. Something got in my eye.”
She rummaged through her purse pulling out a kleenex. Instead of handing it over, she leaned in wiping your cheek gently. Jessica surveyed the other cheek, cleaning up flecks of whatever mess laid there.
“There we go, darling. Better than ever” she smiled, and boy if you weren’t furious at how amazing she was. You almost wished she had been cruel so you’d have a reason to hate her. But you couldn’t hate her. Not one bit.
Jessica resumed the prior conversation which you fell into ease. As she leaned back to survey the night sky, you followed suit.
“Can’t really see much of the stars here, huh?” she observed. “Bit of a shame.”
You hummed in agreement. “Though you could just walk inside to see the stars.”
She laughed earnestly at your pathetic joke. “That’s a good one, Y/N. Harrison says you’re quite a riot. I can see what he means.”
“Huh?” What did that mean?  Was that good or bad? Surely he must’ve noted that before the two got together.
“It’s a good thing” she patted your arm as if reading your mind. It should’ve consoled your worries except it didn’t in the slightest.
“Well, we better head in” she announced, standing and brushing grass off. She then helped you up since the massive costume made it difficult to stand. You were pretty sure you would’ve been stuck on the ground if she hadn’t been there.
As she wiped dirt from your costume, you blurted “I can see why he likes you.” It hurt to acknowledge, but she made sense. She would never use Harrison for fame or money; she would be good for him.
She cocked her head, a puzzled expression on her perfect face. “What are you talking about?”
“You and Harrison. I mean, it makes sense” you shrugged nonchalantly as possible.
She blinked twice before giggling. “What? Me and Haz?”
“Uh, yes?”
Her giggles got louder as she gripped her sides. “Darling, Harrison and I are just childhood mates. That’s all. I have a boyfriend.”
Polygamy? No, you knew better. Yet you knew nothing at all.
So Harrison wasn’t dating Jessica. But why had he implied it that day in London? Was he dating someone else? None of it made any sense.
Fuck Harrison. And not in the sexy way. He wasn’t your concern anymore. He never reached out. He never made the effort. Why should you worry about him? Trick question: you wouldn’t. You would ignore him for the rest of your lives.
Except when you started searching for Emma, you spotted Harrison by the bar. He wore a Han Solo costume, the shirt deliberately half unbuttoned to show off his chest. Fuck he looked good. So unfair. He glanced up making eye contact with you.
Abort! Super abort! You turned, ready to run when an arm swooped around your stomach yanking you back towards the bar.
“My friends!” Tom Holland slurred as he slung one arm around Harrison’s neck, the other adjusting itself around yours. This fucking fuck.
You avoided Harrison’s glance, focusing on the drunken man beaming at you. “Y/N! You’re so cute! Not as cute as Ems but so very cute!” He turned towards his best friend. “Haz! Y/N is cute, don’t you agree?”
“Very cute” he agreed softly. True or not, you weren’t ready to hear that. Your face heated up, eyes downcast to the floor. Fuck your stupid emotions.
As you squirmed in his hold, Tom’s grip tightened. “Don’t leave! You keep leaving! You never come round anymore!” he whined. “We miss you so much! Haz misses you so so much ‘cause you don’t bother ringin’ him anymore.”
“That’s enough, Tommy.” Tom paid no heed as he continued blabbering.
“Haz keeps asking Ems what you’re up to or who you’re hanging out with and then gets mad ‘cause Ems doesn’t know either. I keep telling him to just visit, y’know? Just stop by your apartment and say hello there! But Haz is all ‘shut up, Tommy’.” If you weren’t completely caught off guard by this admission, you might’ve laughed at Tom’s terrible impression.
“Shut up, Tommy.”
“Yeah, like that!” Tom giggled at Harrison’s irritation.
Just as you were about to ask where Emma was, your best friend rushed over. “Thank God I finally found you!” she wheezed. Apparently while you played babysitter, Tom spent the night getting completely plastered. He definitely needed to go home despite his protests.
“I’m fine” Tom insisted as the three of you dragged him outside. “I’m-” he paused, heaving once. Oh no. Twice. Please don’t. He grinned proudly. “See? Totally-” That’s when Tom vomited on the sidewalk. Right on cue.
Emma cringed as you jumped away, leaving Harrison to hold up most of Tom’s weight. As Tom sputtered out the remnants, Emma rubbed his back whispering soothing words. She looked up shooting you a remorseful look.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I know I said we’d have fun, but-”
“No worries.” No way you were guilt tripping her when she had to deal with this mess. Instead you volunteered to drive them back to the hotel. Not like you wanted to be at the party for any longer anyways. You would help her with Tom before going home where you didn’t have to deal with Harrison anymore. Easy breezy.
Except Harrison pointed out you probably couldn’t drive in that bulky costume, suggesting that he drive instead. No longer easy breezy.
If he didn’t have a point, you would’ve told him to shut his damn mouth and take a hike all the way to Tatooine. Instead you ended up sitting in the passenger seat as he drove while Emma tenderly stroked Tom’s head in the back. You kept quiet, only acknowledging him when the car arrived at the hotel.
Tom compliantly allowed the three of you to drag him up to his suite. Once he passed out, Emma insisted on escorting you down to the lobby where Harrison trailed behind.
“I’m sorry again” Emma apologized, wrapping you in a big hug.
“Stop apologizing. I’ll just get a Lyft home” you hugged back, hoping she felt your sincerity. She promised to make things up to you before heading to Tom’s room.
Pulling out your phone, you used the app to call yourself a ride. Within seconds, someone named Todd popped up on your screen stating he was five minutes away. Not bad. You could wait five minutes.
Except you couldn’t wait in peace with Harrison watching. His stare was unnerving to say the least.
“What?” you finally snapped.
“Nothing” he shrugged. Of course he was nonchalant. It wasn’t like his heart broke.
Taking a couple side steps, you scowled when he copied your action. You could feel his intensity which only furthered your irritation.
“Stop looking at me.”
He tapped his chin pretending to look pensive. “What do you Americans say again? Oh, right. It’s a free country.”
You grimaced glancing back at your phone. C’mon Todd. We’re looking for Fast and Furious. Vroom vroom, damn it.
“Did you mean it?” Harrison asked.
“What?”
“What you said. Did you mean it?”
You clammed up thinking about what you discussed with Jessica. Had he eavesdropped? Or had she blabbed? She’d get points taken off her hotness scale for that. Except she’d still be a solid nine. Damn it.
“Back in London” he clarified. Oh. Well that was much worse.
The grip on your phone tightened. What could you even say? Instead of answering, you engrossingly focused on your phone. Ignore him. Ignore ignore ignore.
You couldn’t ignore the sounds of his footsteps nearing. You felt his presence next to you as he gently tilted your phone. His stare bore into you, urging you to look. Don’t look up. Don’t do it.
Except you could never deny Harrison. You looked up pained by how he had this hold on you even now.
“Did you mean it, Y/N?” he asked softly. Did you mean it when you announced how you loved the nickname he called you once every blue moon? Did you mean it when you practically threw yourself emotionally at him? Did you mean it when you put it all on the line for him? Well, did you?
“Of course I did.”
He took your phone, cancelling the ride. “Hey! Give me th-” you began protesting when his arms wrapped around your waist and he kissed you fiercely. Any objection flew away as he pulled you closer. Almost instinctively your arms curled around his neck. God, how you missed this.
You missed kissing him, hands holding you tight as you soaked up every moment. You missed the breathy moans he made when you kissed the nape of his neck. You were so consumed that you didn’t notice the dirty glances people gave as he carried you through the lobby. You were so infatuated that you hadn’t noticed you were in his hotel room sitting on his lap.
Only once he pulled the costume’s zipper halfway down did thoughts of London rush back. How he hurt you without any remorse, making you feel miserable. You couldn’t do this without resolving what happened that summer day.
You pulled away, surveying him. “Why’d you do that?”
“I mean, I wanna see what’s underneath there” he smirked. “The night is still young if you want me to work for-”
“No. Not that” you shook your head. “Why’d you basically imply Jessica was your girlfriend when she isn’t? Are you dating someone else?”
Harrison sat back, clearly caught off guard. “No, I’m not dating anyone else. I’m only into you.” The words sounded so right, but he hadn’t answered the prior question. That question you couldn’t ignore until you got a proper answer.
“Harrison, why did you imply that?” you asked softly.
His brows furrowed as he stroked the nape of his neck. His eyes flickered to you then to the floor as he muttered how you hurt him.
Your mouth dropped open in shock. Hurt him? When had you done that? You pried further, asking him to explain.
“I was wrecked that you never reached out, Y/N. I put everything out on the line, and you never even called. Yeah, you sent that text but it felt so…It felt like you wanted to forget what happened that night.” He fumbled his words, trying to articulate himself. “Then I saw that photo of you and that bloke, and I thought you just moved on.”
“You thought I moved on” you echoed slowly. Harrison nodded his head.
“But you didn’t even ask me. You just assumed and ran with that story. You didn’t even ask.” Anger simmered inside of you, heating every word. He hurt you because of some dumb miscommunication? He hurt you because he didn’t find out the whole story? He hurt you over something so ridiculously trivial as a photo?
“Yes, because I love jumping at the opportunity to get turned down even more” he retorted sarcastically. His sarcastic tone fueled your anger further.
You pulled away from his lap, crossing your arms tightly. Would he always make excuses when things went wrong? Would he lash out like that again, hurt you first and apologize later?
His face sunk as you took a step back. He closed his eyes, dropping his head into his hands. “Shit. Please don’t do that. Don’t. Don’t go back to that” he groaned tiredly. His palms pushed into his closed eyes as he steadied his breathing.
“Go back to what, Osterfield?”
Harrison straightened himself, looking up with a weary expression. “You do this!” he lamented. “You pull away when we might actually go somewhere. Be something!”
“Me?” you thundered, enraged by him blaming you. How many girls had he gone through? Yet he had the audacity to fault you on this? You wouldn’t let him make you the bad guy.
It became a vicious yelling match, you screaming about how he never committed and him yelling that he couldn’t do that if you didn’t bother putting in the effort.
“Effort?” you scoffed letting out a dry laugh. “Are you serious? Like you’re one to talk about effort. What effort have you ever shone anyone besides yourself?” He winced, shoulders slouching at your words. Growing fury persisted your harsh comments.
“It’s all about Harrison, isn’t it? If things aren’t going smooth for Harrison, he just leaves. Nopes right outta there! If girls don’t work out, he just dumps them.”
“Now hold on! I-”
You shut him down, refusing to listen. “Can you even remember the names of the girls you take out, Haz? Well, can you?” you jeered.
“Am I just going to be another notch on your bed post? Someone you can laugh about with your mates when you’re done with me? Oh, wait! You’ve probably done that already! Got your kicks with your first fuck of the year?” you spat out.
“You know that’s not tr-”
“You’re going to tell me I’m wrong? That you treat every girl you’ve been with so well and that you cared about each and every one of them?”
“This isn’t about the girls I’ve gone out with! It’s about you and me” he finally snapped back. “You know we’re different” he insisted, grabbing your hand. “You know-”
“I don’t know anything about you, Osterfield!” You yanked your hand and took a step backwards. “One day I think we’re getting along, the next you’re pretending you have a girlfriend!”
“Now wa-”
“You said that to hurt me! Why? Because I took a fucking photo with my friend’s brother?! It was her brother, Harrison!” He swallowed, unable to respond. Shame covered his face as he bowed his head.
“I never meant to hurt you. Truly. That wasn’t what I meant to do” he pleaded when he finally looked up. But he had. He hurt you deeply and the fear that he would continue to do so scared you.
“Well, you did” you coldly replied.
“Please. Just let me fix this. Let me just fix everything, love.” It sounded so simple like he could solve every crack and flaw. But it wasn’t that easy.
Harrison hesitantly attempted to take your hand to which you responded by shoving him away. Rage consumed you, refusing to let him in. “Don’t pretend you actually give a shit about people, especially me! You’d never commit to anyone because you only care about yourself! You’re just a hotheaded, selfish bastard!”
That was the final blow. Anger surged in his eyes as his hands balled up.
“Are you fucking serious right now?” He wouldn’t let you cut him off, not this time. “What about you, huh? You’re acting so goddamn infuriating, all high and mighty. I just wanna make things work between us, and you keep thinking of reaso-”
“Who’s the one that keeps leading the other on? Cause it sure as hell isn’t me! Who’s the one who doesn’t actually show that they’re all in? Spoiler alert! It’s you, Ha-”
“You’re a goddamn coward, Y/N!” he roared, fire raging in his eyes. “Sorry you’ve got all these bloody issues, but it’s not for my lack of trying. Jesus, you keep making up these excuses for not wanting this. You’re so infuriating!”
“Oh, I’m so infuriating, huh?” you mocked.
“Yes! If anyone’s selfish, it’s you! You don’t give a shit about a relationship; you just want this romantic fantasy where everything goes your way. You don’t wanna work for something good. Christ, you’re so bloody obtuse! Maybe that’s why Steven didn’t choose you!”
Oh.
His words were worse than physical pain. So much worse. It was a slap to your face, to your heart without a single touch. An actual slap would bruise for a bit to simply fade away. This struck deep to your core that you weren’t sure you could ever recover.
He didn’t mean it.
He witnessed your crumbling relationship with Steven that night. He saw the way you crumpled up in his car after revealing how much Steven meant to you.
He didn’t mean it.
He comforted you at your lowest, when you felt vulnerable, so unloved. He took you home, kept you company. He defended you against Steven even when you felt pathetic. Harrison said you were special. Was he lying then? Were you as delusional as he implied?
Of course he meant it. He meant every word. How cruel to throw those insecurities back into your face.
“Fuck.” He paled realizing his mistake.
He swore again and again, shaking his head. “That’s not what I meant to say. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Y/N” he apologized, trying to desperately to reel back the words.
The damage was already done. He couldn’t take it back. They were out there, emblazoned in your mind. Another person who didn’t think you were worth the risk. Another person you wouldn’t be enough for.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it.” But you did, didn’t you?
It felt like your heart might burst at any moment the way it rapidly thumped in your chest. Time felt delayed as you felt the room spinning. Being there was wrong. Believing in him was wrong. Everything felt wrong. You gasped for air, struggling to breathe.
You vaguely recalled him saying your name, apprehensive about your current state. He called it again, this time louder than the first. Harrison took a step forward, a tense hand reaching out. Don’t look at me that way. Don’t call my name like that. Don’t touch me. Don’t touch me.
“Don’t fucking touch me” you choked out as you fumbled away from his reach. He hastily pulled his hand back watching as you stumbled into the corner.
Stupid. You felt so outrageously stupid. You hated this, hated everything that moment. How foolish you must’ve looked fighting in that outlandish costume. You couldn’t even look dignified during a goddamn fight.
Channeling all your anger, you clawed at the costume. Every inch of the fabric was just another reminder that this night existed, that you were just another joke. Get off. Get off! You struggled until the getup pooled at your feet. Kicking off the remaining fabric you were left in a simple slip heaving blearily.
Enough.
You snatched your phone and bounded out of the room ignoring that you were barefoot and barely covered. It took all of ten seconds for you to rush down the hall and heatedly click the elevator button until it arrived. You ignored Harrison shouting your name, stabbing the ‘close door’ button. Enough.
When the elevator door glided open, you rushed out into the cool night hailing the first cab lined up. You gave your address, ignoring the odd looks from the driver. You ignored the incoming calls, eventually turning off your phone. Enough.
The apartment was empty when you arrived home. Your roommate wouldn’t be back until tomorrow. You wanted to call her to tell someone what happened, but you didn’t want to trouble her. You couldn’t stand being another inconvenience.
As you surveyed the apartment, you remembered certain moments shared with Harrison. The couch was where he almost kissed you. The kitchen where he helped make a proper cup of tea. Even your room had been tainted by his presence.
Despondency flooded in as you trudged to your bed. You spent so much time hoping he would be different, that you weren’t wasting your time. You hadn’t been enough for Steven and you’d never be enough for Harrison. Feeling tears well in your eyes, you wished you could’ve been better. You wished you weren’t so self conscious. You wished for so many things knowing they’d never come true.
As you curled up and sobbed yourself to bed, the last thought that crossed your mind was wishing you had never let Harrison in your life.
