part 1
this is a part 2 to another fic i did, but can be read as a stand alone!
post!prison reid x fem!reader
genre: enemies to lovers, smut with a plot
summary: after being put on a case with you, spencer realizes he might not hate you as much as he thought.
MDNI 18+
unfortunately, when working for the bau, having time off is very rare. you and spencer were harshly reminded of this. right after your successful arrest of the unsub at the nightclub, you were immediately put on a plane, incredibly sexually frustrated, on your way to another case.
you and spencer had (luckily or unluckily) ended up next to each other on a plane ride to the middle of nowhere in wisconsin. there had been a string of murders in the small town of hayward. four were dead and the unsubs rate of death was accelerating.
the flight was a little under six hours. just sitting next to spencer was excruciating.
the rest of the team had fallen asleep and although you attempted to sleep, you were simply just too horny. not being able to finish earlier, mixed with sheer anticipation had taken over you. you tossed and turned in your seat, a blanket pulled up to your chest. you open your eyes to look at spencer who had a book in his hands, his eyes on you.
you smile softly, sitting upright to get a better look at the handsome man.
“are you okay?" he asks softly, his kind voice still new for you. you nod, watching as he sets his book down over his crotch. hes still hard.
"i'm okay." you respond with a smile. "just, y'know..." you trail off trying to put your thoughts into words.
he laughs softly, completely understanding what you mean. "earlier.” he finishes your sentence with a smirk on his face.
“well i would ask how you feel about ‘earlier’, dr. reid,” you begin, your had moving from the armrest to rub against his chest. “but i can already tell.” you move your had quickly down his chest and hover your hand over his obviously hard cock in his pants. he gasps softly as you use one finger to trace the shape of him.
“fuck.” he groans, the use of a curse word throwing you off (and turning you on). “please.” he begs as you push softly on his cock, feeling a wet spot from precum already forming.
“use your words.” you demand, kindly, your dominance going straight to his dick. spencer liked being dominant, which he most definitely was going to be when the plane fucking lands, but right now he wanted to be taken care of. he needed to be taken care of.
“touch me.” he says simply as you begin to undo his belt quietly.
“ok, pretty boy, but i’m going to need you to keep quiet, can you do that?” you reply, reaching your hand into his underwear, pulling his hard cock out. he was huge, bigger than you would’ve guessed, especially for a relatively skinny guy. his tip was red and angry, begging for your attention.
“yes.” he says breathlessly, watching you hold his cock. you smile, throwing your blanket over his lap and over your arm, deciding that sucking him off would make too much noise.
you use your pointer finger to spread his precum over the tip of his cock, eliciting a muffled groan from the man.
you begin to move your hand down his cock, causing spencer to cover his mouth with his hand. his pupils were blown and his chest rising and falling fast. it was an amazing sight.
you felt yourself getting wet as your hand began to move faster on his cock.
“this feels so good.” he says, his praise only fueling your desire. the man bites back a moan just watching you concentrate on letting him cum.
“fuck, y/n,” he gasps out his hips bucking into your hand. “i’m close.” you pick up your pace a bit, making the handsome man roll his eyes back in his head and cum all over your hand. you stand up and take a look around the jet to make sure everyone was still asleep. luckily, penelope garcia had given the whole team noise cancelling headphones for christmas, so no one heard a thing.
you smile leaning in to give him soft kiss on the lips before walking to the bathroom to wash off your hands. when you return, spencer's eyes are closed and you can't help but kiss his cheek. he opens his eyes slowly, reaching up to grab your waist and pull you onto him. he throws the blanket over your bodies and kisses your forehead softly.
you squirm slightly, still feeling horny. he looks up at you, eyes barely open. "your turn?" he asks, referring to your pleasure. you laugh softly shaking your head. he was half asleep and still offering to make you happy. "no, its okay pretty boy, we'll save that for later." he nods, a smile on his face.
"are you sure?" he asks, turning his head so he could look you in the eyes, perhaps to see if you were lying.
"yes, i promise." he kisses you on the forehead before falling asleep, his arms around you.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
although you managed to get some sleep in spencer's arms, you knew that soon enough someone would wake up and you both would get caught. so, an hour after falling asleep on the handsome man, you painfully peeled yourself off of his lap and back into your own cold seat.
luckily, no one had (seemingly) seen anything, which was good.
as of now, you were leaving the plane to go to the hayward precinct.
"we'll check in with the chief of police, then dave and i will stay over night while you guys go to the inn and get some sleep." emily announced as they began piling into two large black suburbans.
they collectively thanked prentiss and rossi before heading to the inn.
"wait so when she says inn..." you ask, climbing the the back seat. jj nods.
"yeah, this is a small town so there isn't really any place for us to stay near by."
tara climbs in the passengers seat and luke slides in next to you.
the rest of the ride there was relatively normal, minus a few jokes about you & spencer's make out session at the night club, that you chose to ignore.
you arrived to the inn quickly, grabbing your designated room key and head to your room.
“fuck!” you yell, surprised to see someone already in your room.
“shhh.” spencer says, coming up to close the door behind you, taking your bags from your hands and setting them down by his feet.
“i missed you.” he says, causing you to roll your eyes.
“it’s been like thirty minutes, pretty boy.” he smiles, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you into him. you laugh as he picks you up easily and carries you over to the queen sized bed.
“i’ve just been thinking about earlier.” he says, laying down next to you.
“oh yeah?” you say, turning you head to face him.
“uh huh,” he says, pulling your body closer to him allowing you to lay your head on his chest. “i want to make you cum now.” he says, his voice low. you look up at him allowing him to tip his head down to kiss your lips.
“jj.. is.. next.. door.” you huff out in between kisses. spencer shrugs, flipping your position so he’s on top of you. he begins kissing and biting down your jaw and neck, using his hands to expertly remove your shirt. he lets out a small groan when he rips the shirt off you, revealing your tiny, lacy bra.
“off please.” is all you manage to say, but somehow he understands. he unclasps your bra in a single motion, throwing it to the floor, exposing your hardened nipples.
“y/n..” he says lowly, his eyes filled with lust. “so pretty.” he continues to trail kisses down your neck and chest, until his mouth lands on your tit, sucking softly as his other hand teases your other nipple.
you groan softly, that familiar wet feeling returning in your underwear for the third time in 24 hours.
although you’ve just started, your groans and boobs had already gone straight to spencer’s cock and as he kissed your body you could already feel his hardness pressed on your leg.
you buck your hips up against spencer, begging for some friction.
“i need you inside of me, spencer.” the use of his name he was so unfamiliar with made his pants grow tighter.
“so needy.” he jokes with a smile, moving to remove your pants, his mouth watering at the sight of your covered pussy, a perfect wet spot in the center.
“so, so pretty.” he sighs, hooking his fingers in your underwear and pulling it off of your legs.
without warning he inserts two of his fingers in you, causing you to gasp and moan at the new sensation. you slowly attempt to remove his shirt as pleasure blinds your senses.
soon enough, spencer is moving down to attach his mouth on your cunt. “spence, please, im gonna cum. i need you inside me.” you moan, your back arching. this garners a moan from the handsome man, his noises echoing in your pussy.
you expect him to pull away, but he doesn’t. you feel your walls begin to tighten as he returns his fingers into you, allowing you to finally cum.
you moan and groan, his name on your lips.
even though your only semi cognizantas you recover from your high, you can’t help but notice the way spencer has begun to crash his hips against the bed.
“inside me.” you demand, your breathing heavy. spencer smiles as he removes his pants, leaving just his boxers, and crawls over top of you. he captures your lips in a heated and sloppy kiss, the remnants of your orgasm on his lips.
you reach down, breaking the kiss to remove his underwear, his hard and leaking cock sticking straight up. you smile as he pecks your lips, moving himself so his cock is aligned with your entrance.
he glides his cock over your slit a few times, causing you to beg him to be inside you. you’ve never felt this desperate before. he slowly pushes his large dick into you, causing you to groan, slightly in pain due to his size.
“you okay, baby?” he whispers, noticing your discomfort. you nod as your walls adjust, his size now feeling incredible.
he begins to pump his cock in and out, immediately hitting you in your sweet spot.
“fuck.” you moan, throwing your head back. he uses his hand to move your face back, towards him.
“i want to see your pretty face when you cum, y/n.” he says, in almost a demanding manner, but still with kind undertones.
his words don’t fail to turn you on, somehow even more.
“oh, you like that?” he says through a moan, as his pace quickens, the leud sounds of his cock driving deep inside you, mixed with moans, fill the small room.
“i’m close,” spencer admits, through breathy moans. you open your mouth to respond, but all that comes out is a deep moan.
you feel his dick twitch inside you as rubs your clit with his fingers.
“cum inside me, please.” you beg, feeling your core tighten around him, your release nearing.
“are you sure?” he asks, his movements becoming more sloppy, his skin coated in a thin layer of sweat.
“yes!” you confirm as you reach your climax for the second time, spencer following quickly.
his hot cum fills you up as he continues his movements, riding you both through your highs.
when you’ve both had a second to catch your breaths, he pulls out of you, leaving you full of his cum, but missing his cock. you smile as he gives you a slow kiss, laying down next to you.
“you’re so perfect.” he whispers into your hair as you lay your head on his chest. you smile, happy, but a little confused how just over a day ago you couldn’t stand this beautiful man.

While eagerly awaiting the next chapter, can I ask (as much as you can say), how much will ever be revealed about what happened in Hayward? There are so many references in so many chapters to what occurred, but I still can’t piece it together. Did it have something to do with a magazine at all? Or is Billy just generally worried that anything will set Neil off now? Did it have something to do with a car at the end of a driveway with its dome light on (like the one Billy dreamt about?); when did Billy say “it’s not like that” in Hayward (like he said again to Steve when they were fighting on the lawn)? And why was he not around when Susan, Max and Neil packed the moving boxes? Was he so injured that he was at hospital? What did Neil tell the cops (there was a reference to that somewhere, too). It’s started to drive me mad (in a good way) that we still only have fragments of what happened.
- Spurius
Ahahaha it sounds like you have all the pieces (in sequence, too) <3
I'll probably write it in (more) explicitly soon, but back in Hayward [SPOILERS]
Billy isn't conscious of his own sexuality/desires because no opportunities have yet presented themselves to him to prove them. He thinks of himself as someone who is pretty disinterested/disappointed in the whole shebang, but not because of anything "wrong" with him. He's the Billy that Max describes in her book--really beautiful, and cool, but with this sort of flat affect, general disinterest in her/family/school/girls.
Then he sees a picture in a magazine--Max's magazine--and immediately wants it without investigating why. He acts on that impulse with the compulsion of secrecy that most young people have about their budding sexuality, straight or queer--with awareness enough to feel like he shouldn't have taken it, shouldn't have wanted it bad enough to take, and that Neil probably wouldn't be cool with him being interested in it (even though he didn't really do the math on why exactly Neil wouldn't like finding him in possession of a girl's magazine with teen heartthrobs in it)--so he hid it under his mattress (which is why Neil knows to look there).
Billy runs over Max's board being a dick and Max cracks the shits and dobs him in for stealing her magazine. They have a blowout sibling fight because Billy realizes he's actually scared of being discovered with it.
Neil finds it under his bed, and Billy tries to explain that it isn't what he thinks it is (but, uh, it definitely is) and Neil doesn't believe him, and he hurts Billy badly enough that he makes himself scarce on moving day. I think I wrote he puts him through some dry wall.
The cops bring him back home with questions about his injuries, but Neil schmoozes his way out. And Susan and (newly traumatized) Max are no help either.
So that's the point at which we have Billy driving into Hawkins behind the moving van, redirecting his feelings on being discovered into anger at Max--for snitching, and for even having the magazine in the first place.
Of course, his big top secret trauma also links in with his visual fixation on Steve--which makes him such a big appreciator of Jonathan Byers' work.
Aaaand there's a couple of tiny clues about how he treats his ill gotten goods: where he keeps it, why it has to be there, why he wants to drive around when he's feeling pent up... Basically, he is repeating the same behavior, but a little more advanced into knowing his own desires, and thinking of himself as aberrant--and having learned his lesson on not keeping his inspo where Neil knows to look for it (which is why he's so upset when Max is the one to find it again: history repeating).
Only thing that's not in there is the car with the light on. That's part of the bigger/underlying theme of the story, which is: what is he trying to run away from? What does running away look like for him? Has it changed now that he's in love? :)

My final thoughts on WandaVision (so it goes without saying if you haven’t finished it, don’t look past Vision)
Tumblr media
What I liked:
• I loved the sitcom concept, super cool. And finding out why she hung onto sitcoms for comfort was just *chefs kiss* pay off wise.
• I loved how it started out as a slow build up (but I do think it would’ve worked better to have longer episodes to make things fit better and not feel as rushed towards the end)
• I loved Darcy, Monica and Jimmy’s trio. They were so fantastic together and the actors all did great.
• On the note of Monica, IM SO EXCITED TO HAVE A WOMAN OF COLOR SUPERHERO (especially since she’ll eventually be a main character not just a “sidekick”) 🥳
• I LOVED Pietro/Fietro/Ralph/Uncle P (whoever the hell he actually was). I obviously have some dislikes about the last episode, but we’ll get to that later. I loved how fun Evan Peters was. He really did a fantastic job even though no one knew what was going on with his character, he ate that shit up and left no crumbs.
• Wanda and Visions love story is so much better now that we got to build up to it rather than us just jumping into it (how I felt in Infinity War)
• SCARLET WITCH BOUT TO MAKE ME ACT UP. HOLY JIMMINE CRICKETS WAS SHE LOOKING GORGEOUS AND POWERFUL IN THAT LAST EPISODE
• Billy and Tommy are some of the sweetest children I think I’ve ever seen in a movie/show world and I love them with all my heart and soul and I really hope they do return.
• ITS BEEN AGATHA ALL ALONG 💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻
• “what is grief if not love persevering”
• “we’ve said goodbye before so it stands to reason... we’ll say hello again” IM CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.
• Wanda tucked in Billy and Tommy so they’d be asleep before they were sucked away with the hex 😭😭😭
• “thank you for choosing me to be your mom” 😭
• That second end credit scene with Scarlet Witch astral projecting was so trippy (I love it) and the boys calling to her broke my dang heart.
• overall the special effects looked really cool
• omg Elizabeth Olsen breaking her back to create the hex was 10/10 she’s so dedicated to the motions/physical acting of it all. Also all her crying scenes, it all felt very real and it really made me sob whenever she was hurting.
Things I didn’t like:
• Episode length. I understand they wanted it to go with the length of a normal sitcom, but it doesn’t work when you’re flashing back and forth between the sitcom and the real world. The time got messy towards the end and things felt rushed like the Vision vs. White Vision battle was just boring because it had no climatic energy to it.
• Too many loose ends/wasn’t clear enough. By that I mean, who was Jimmy’s missing person that led to him learning about the hex? (I’m hoping it was Evan Peters’ character, but more on that later). What happened to White Vision? Does Wanda have Agatha’s power now or did she just make it so she couldn’t use them?
• Ralph Bohner? Really Disney/Marvel? Really? You’re telling me you got Evan fricking Peters just so you could stunt cast and fuck with the audience and end it with a dick joke? Not cool.
• Why no Darcy in the last episode other than 2 seconds :(
• Hayward... Thats it. I just really hate him.
• some of the script/lines were a little questionable... like idk a lot of Agatha’s lines once she was revealed as the villain just were lack luster after her amazing intro and they were sort of tacky.
• I didn’t like how they hyped up certain things just for them to not really be significant (like Monica saying she knew a space engineer who could get her in and it was all mysterious, then not even ending up needing the truck they built or the character not really having much of a “wow” show up)
• I’m back to the Evan Peters thing. Why would they hype up his character’s mystery identity for him to just be a random dude named Ralph Bohner??? That’s such terrible writing (obviously I’m not an expert writer, but I actually did internship at a magazine where I had to read submitted stories and judge them and see if they were worthy of publication. And my minor in college was writing. So I do know a little about story telling, and something is off about the way they did this.). It’s either the fact that it’s just plain bad writing, or it’s a misdirect. I want to believe that Marvel knows how much people would enjoy EP in this show and would eventually expect more from him in the MCU. Now obviously, this is Wanda’s show and she decides what makes it on and what doesn’t, so maybe Ralph is the missing person Jimmy was looking for, but Wanda doesn’t know that, nor would she want it on her show. Maybe he really is Quicksilver but they put him in the Witness Protection Program when he came over from another universe? Or maybe he really is just a nobody who Agatha lived with because his house was conveniently close to Wanda’s. Or maybe he is someone of significance because who just has a random headshot lying around with their proof of ownership of their house and other paperwork and then laughs at their name Bohner even though if they’d had that name their whole life they’d be sick of the dick jokes?? Maybe they left it vague enough so they could gauge audience reaction to EP, if it was good they could come back to it in a mutants movie/show (or maybe even Doctor Strange 2 or Spider-Man 3) or if it was bad, just leave it at he’s a random person who already lived in Westview. Idk all I know is if they don’t end up bringing him back I’m definitely gonna be significantly less interested in any morphing of the XMen and mutants into the MCU.
Lastly, I just wanna say the actors and actresses all did fantastic (especially Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany). They all play such complex roles this time around and it really showed how passionate they were about this project. I loved them all so much and they truly brought this show to life (yes it has flaws, but it was their first attempt at a MCU timeline show, and the actors did what they could with what they were given so none of my criticism go towards them). I really enjoyed this overall (and I’m genuinely sad to see it ending) and I’m looking forward to seeing Wanda being a bad mamma-jamma in Doctor Strange 2.

Michael in the Mainstream: WandaVision
Tumblr media
I love Wanda Maximoff, AKA Scarlet Witch. I’m not sure how apparent that is, but just in general I love comic book characters who use magic, and Wanda is probably my favorite (or at least tied with DC’s Zatanna). Sadly, I never really felt like the MCU did her any justice. She debuted in the worst Avengers movie, her brother was killed before they could showcase a meaningful relationship, and then her next appearances had her speedrunning a relationship with Vision. She definitely got some great moments in Infinity War and Endgame, but she felt woefully underutilized. The same could be said of her boyfriend Vision, who had it even worse than her, because he gets killed in Infinity War and is basically forgotten about after that, with nary a mention in Endgame. These are two fantastic characters, and the MCU just didn’t handle them well at all, and they felt like a complete waste that it was really hard to care about.
Thank god for WandaVision.
This show really did something incredible. It made me care so much about two characters I wished I could have cared about before, and become incredibly invested in their relationship. Wanda and Vision get much-needed spotlight and character development and end up becoming two of the best and most fleshed-out characters in the whole franchise, and it’s amazing they waited so long to do this. Wouldn’t it have been better if we cared so much about them before?
The show has three core elements that help make it great: its characters, its themes, and its presentation. The characters are the big one; Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany really get their time to shine, and both of them manage to do great things with their characters, characters who until now felt more like background characters than actual Avengers. Their relationship is so cute, so wholesome, but with an undercurrent of something a bit sadder that ties in with the show’s themes, and then when they have children things become even more sweet with that dark undercurrent still running strong. Aside from them, the standout of the cast would have to be nosy neighbor Agnes played by Kathryn Hahn… or I should say, the show’s villain, Agatha Harkness, a magic-siphoning witch who’s exploiting Wanda’s fragile emotional state to gain the ultimate power. She’s an actual well-executed twist villain, which is quite a feat for modern Disney, and she’s just as fun and campy as you’d hope an evil witch would be, complete with her very own ridiculous villain song that has her winking at the camera and proudly gloating about killing puppies. It’s delightfully cartoonish. Other standouts include Evan Peters as ‘Pietro,’ in a hilarious and clever bit of meta casting that leads to a dick joke (which might be one of the funniest twists in the MCU) and the return of the greatest Ant-Man supporting character Jimmy Woo. Even Darcy, the absolute worst part of the first two Thor films, manages to return and be tolerable.
The presentation is a big selling point, and what helps the story feel so fresh and unique. Each episode is an affectionate take on a different decade’s sitcoms, starting really oldschool and eventually working all the way up to more modern fare. Interspersed throughout these episodes are some rather entertaining fake commercials which harken to elements of Wanda’s life, and a couple of later ones even act as some heavy foreshadowing for future revelations. The different camera techniques, colors, and whatnot really help sell this fantastical sitcom world Wanda created, though I have to say it is a bit of a shame they couldn’t integrate this style more into the climax, even if there are story reasons for it. It was just such a cool and fun concept, it’s a shame it had to be resolved before the climactic finale.
The themes, though, are what really make this show shine. This show is essentially about a woman dealing with grief. Wanda has lost the man she loves, she has lost her brother, and she’s struggling to find her way in the world. As a coping mechanism, she creates a fantasy world and refuses to face reality, burying her emotions and refusing to move on, instead clinging to the happy concepts that might have been. It really is fantastic as a character study of Wanda, giving her a remarkable amount of depth. I found myself relating to a lot of the themes on display; as someone with depression who has had my fair share of painful experiences, I could empathize with Wanda to a degree. Sure, the person I loved was never murdered by Thanos, but I’ve experienced with grief before. It’s really great stuff they’re working with here.
Unfortunately, as good as all these things are, the show isn’t 100% perfect. The biggest issue is when the show switches focus from the interesting stuff inside of Wanda’s sitcom world to more standard MCU stuff outside. Sure, it’s fun to hang out with Jimmy Woo, the greatest character ever, but a lot of the stuff out there just isn’t engaging and some things just aren’t really elaborated on too much. It’s certainly not awful, but between some really confusing twists with Monica Rambeau (who is a good character otherwise and one I want to see more of) and the extremely boring, 2/10 on Psycho Analysis villain Hayward, there’s really not much here that can even hope to compare to the events unfolding in Wanda’s life. The best things from the outside are flashbacks, such as when Monica returned from being snapped or when we get to see Wanda visiting Vision’s corpse in government lockup, which is one of the most tearjerking moments in the show.
There’s also how the swerve into the standard “Big Marvel action” isn’t exactly graceful. After a great episode where Agatha goes back through Wanda’s life, giving even more insight to Wanda as a character and showing us a lot of fascinating moments, we get into the grand finale which feels like what you’d see in a movie theater, for better or for worse. Now I’m a real slut for crazy witch duels between hot women, and this certainly delivers on that front, but there’s so much other crap going on and it really is weird to think how this show about a superhero woman learning to handle her grief somehow became a big, epic showdown that wouldn’t look out of place in a Harry Potter film. I don’t hate this finale as much as some people do, but it definitely feels like the weakest episode overall (which isn’t too bad, since it’s still good, just not really what I would have liked to see).
WandaVision is the sort of thing I want to see more from the MCU going forward. It’s fresh, it’s interesting, it doesn’t take a standard route for the most part, and it utilizes characters who never got a fair shake in interesting and creative ways. Most importantly, it’s very weird and very comic booky, which is something the MCU was lacking for much of its first ten years (save for the films Gunn and Waititi made). I’m sure not everyone is going to find this to be their cup of tea, and it’s easy to grow bored of the cuts away from Wanda to the more cliché affairs outside of her sitcom bubble, but this is definitely a rich and rewarding show that engages with some heavier topics in an easy-to-digest and enjoyable way. Hopefully we’ll see more creativity like this going forward.

pairing: bucky barnes x reader
a/n: more parallels between wanda and reader plus hayward being a bitch to reader. also pierce did not die during the winter soldier events in this universe. at this point this is called wanda and y/n collectively grieving over her how shitty their lives are.
previous chapter
Tumblr media
The young woman held a small gun in her left hand, shooting the target at least 10 metres away from her with a mechanical precision, switching it to her right hand and achieving the same type of perfection and precision not even senior agents had. Yet, there she was, one of the newest SWORD recruits. Many people had opposed for her to join SWORD straight after escaping from HYDRA and the Red Room; however, Tyler Hayward had forced for her to become a new recruit. “Having Alexander Pierce’s daughter in our team will be an asset” he said and it somehow convinced all of SWORDs panel to take her in. She had nowhere to go after all, the Red Room will be after her in no time and she had no way to defend herself alone and so SWORD was her only option. An option she thrived under, being much more advanced than any junior recruit yet it was a far cry from what she wanted. She didn’t want to be an agent but that’s what she was, what she had been trained to do.
The trainer slowly blinked walking up to her and giving her a congratulatory pat on the shoulder which everyone could sense was filled of jealousy. She was thrown to the back of the line with someone else who also inspired jealousy in most recruits. Monica Rambeau, daughter of Maria Rambeau, the current SWORD director. They had never spoken too much other than orientation day where they introduced each other by their agent number.
     - That was the coolest thing I’ve seen today. - she hide a childish smile as the next recruit started  his training. - I’m Monica.
     - Y/N. - she smiled and shook her hand. - Is it always like this?
     - Most of time yeah. The trainers are dicks about it when you’re better than them.
     - Men. - Y/N rolled her eyes, getting an understanding nod from Monica.
     - Excuse me? - Tyler Hayward entered the trainee room, always dressed in a polished suit as if that would be of any worth in a fighting situation. - I’m sorry for disturbing but I need Ms. Y/N Pierce to accompany me.
Y/N Pierce. She always hated that name, even more than her code name. The mere thought that she had that last name, the name of one of the leaders of SHIELD was almost like a cruel curse on her. Everyone seemed to think of him as this all around saint yet she knew better; after all, if he had no reservations about submitting his daughter as a project and asset then he would have no reservation in hurting anyone else. SWORD had done their best to keep her existence a secret, not really allowing the connection to pass through but she knew he was looking for her and if he wasn’t the Red Room and HYDRA definitely were.
She shared a confused look with Monica before stepping towards Hayward who led her away from the room and into the hall. He didn’t stop to explain to her why she had been summoned, instead he just kept on walking and she took the lead to follow him, entering a blackened window filled hall. They stopped in front of a window which gave way into an autopsy scene. Y/N was used to seeing death, some would say she was born surrounding it; however, she was not prepared to see what was being shown to her. It was almost as if she were sleeping, her mother. Laid across the metal table with various doctors surrounding her, the HYDRA symbol branded onto her foot. She looked over to the side, hand over her mouth as she felt sick just to see it.
    - Our intelligence believes HYDRA is trying to send a message and we don’t believe they won’t stop anytime soon.
    - Was it fast? Did she suffer?
    - Gunshot to the head. Quite merciful, really.
    - Why are you showing me this?
    - Well, HYDRA experimented on you but there is the possibility your “enhancements” might be genetic.
    -  What is that supposed to mean? Why did you really brought me here, Hayward?
    - We need the next of kin’s permission to perform an autopsy and it seems that would be you, following your mother’s will.
    - No. - she stepped back. - You’re not gonna tear my mother apart for a stupid hypothesis. No. You don’t have my permission
    - We’re being kind enough to hide you from your father for no specific reason. You either accept it or we’ll be forced to hand you to SHIELD.
The night air was crisp and sharp as he sat on the swing next to hers. She hadn’t changed much other than her hair which was much longer but her face was still unblemished by the tragic unkindness of the world. After all it had been about 5 years since he last saw her and he hated the fact he had forgotten her. Somewhere, deep within himself he knew her mark was still there; he could still hear her voice in his dreams but he always chucked it to his mind crumbling under the pressure it had been under for so many years. Nevertheless, he had heard her voice plenty times, specially in Bucharest. It had haunted him from nights and nights on end; “Promise?” “Yes”, turns out it wasn’t someone he had killed but someone he had forgotten. Her of all people. It had come back all to him after that woman gave him the file. Her name alone, her lips telling him her name. He remember telling himself he would not forget him as they prepared him to go back in the blender and he did. He forgot about her but looking at her everything came back to him; the good and the bad. But the most of it was he remembered loving her, he still did, a feeling that had been dormant for a long while and suddenly awoke in him. Of course Bucky did not expect her to love him back, he didn’t blame her either. She was a good kid, too good even.
     - Uhm ... are you enjoying it here? - she motioned her hands abstractly. - In the hex, I mean.
     - It’s better than in hideouts with Sam and Sharon. - he chuckled dryly, looking up at the transparent yet red tinted dome. - I don’t mean to sound ungrateful. Sam is great, despite everything and Sharon ... Sharon has helped me so much, I owe her that.
     - Oh ... - her heart dropped to her stomach as an ugly feeling took over her. Sure, Wanda would say it’s jealousy but she refused to admit it.
     - What about you? I never really asked what you did after ... you know, IT.
    - You can say the name. - she smiled at him yet it was voidless of any emotion, as if she were used to people tip toeing around the subject which they always did. - I became a junior recruit for SWORD until the blip then ... I was gone for a while but it didn’t hurt. It was almost like I was finally at peace and then I woke up and Hayward was director. He sent me and Monica to investigate the hex Wanda created, mostly to keep his own project a bay. Then we all ran off, got classified as fugitives. The rest is really not important.
     - I don’t really think I need to tell you what I’ve been up to.
     - You don’t ... most of it it’s my fault, anyway. - she got up from the swing once she noticed a purple light a few miles away from the limits of the hex. The back of her eyes started growing instinctively white. Bucky got up as he recognised her fighting stance, a hand safely placed upon her shoulder. - Go grab Wanda.
     - Y/N ...
     - Go grab her, now. - she stood there watching the purple light almost call out for her. Bucky chose to do what she said, the white mist involving around her fingers as she stepped towards the hex, fingers barely touching the wall.
Bucky rushed inside the building, hoping to reach Wanda before Y/N could do anything irrational. However, before he could find the newly named Scarlet Witch, she found him with one of her twins behind her waist. Her eyes were glowing red, almost similar to those Y/N had except those eyes looked desperate, worried even.
    - Where is she? - she asked him with an ice like directness. - Where is she, Barnes?
    - Outside. She told me to come get you.
Wanda rushed past him with a speed that he had never seen before and he only followed after her. The two stepped outside the building, towards the swing tree where Bucky had left Y/N, except, she wasn’t there anymore. No, he couldn’t lose her. Not again. Vision came after the two followed by Yelena and Monica who had been awakened by the twins; however, Wanda did not need their help. She approached the hex, just missing the purple glow as it entered the woods. Bucky tried to step up but Vision pushed him back.
    - Y/N? - Wanda broke through the hex, shutting Bucky out as well as Vision. It was night time, dark and cold surrounded by the woods of the place they had chosen to hide from the world. Breaking dawn was so far away and even the tallest individual would’ve melted into the dark night. - Y/N!
   - Are we not going to help them? - Bucky questioned back inside the hex, probably the most awake apart from the synthezoid and the former Red Room graduate.
   - It’s a witch thing. - Yelena smirked before springing into action. - We should activate the hex’s protective system in case something happens.
   - What about them? - Bucky once again interrupted, not receiving particularly kind looks from Yelena.
   - They’ll be fine, Mr. Barnes.
Y/N on the other hand walked further into the confused and dark woods, holding her small trusted silver revolver which reflected the moon light onto its surface; yet most of the light came from behind her coloured eyes. She did not know exactly why they did that, it was almost as if they light up whenever she felt threatened. Whatever it was, it was there inside of her. She, of course, knew it was Agatha lingering around; however, she never got dangerously close to the hex. It was an unspoken truth between the witch and Wanda Maximoff yet there she was.
     - God, dear, I thought I’d have to break into the hex to get to you. - Agatha showed up from the darkness, dressed in her typical black and purple palette as if she were royalty. - So, how are you deary? Still playing Queen Elsa? Is that fun for you?
     - You’re trespassing.
     - Come on, is that how you thank me for giving you Bucky Barnes on a platter? What else do you need to thank me? A love spell?
     - Go away, Agatha. What do you want?
     - I am trying to help you, just like I helped Wanda. I mean how old are you, sweetheart? Old enough for HYDRA and SWORD to realise you can do much more than just magic tricks. Making a whole room objects disappear? Now that, that was impressive. If I knew you were gonna do that, I would’ve brought Barnes into your life much much sooner. - she crossed her arms. - I think you and I are very similar. Much more similar than Maximoff to be completely honest. Where were the avengers when your father handed you over to a terrorist organisation? Constantly overlooked, underestimated, seen as nothing but your father’s daughter. I understand, Y/N and I can help you if you let me help you.
    - I ... - she faltered her response, slightly lowering down her gun. - You can really help me?
    - I know more about magic than everyone else, Y/N. I can train you, I can help you more than SWORD or Wanda Maximoff will ever help. I can even give you what you want the most. Barnes, a regular family, everything but a SHIELD recruit. A regular citizen and all I want is for you to give me my regular family.
     - I can’t help you, Agatha.
     - I don’t mean to cause any harm, Y/N. I’m not the villain, I just want my husband back and only you can give that to me. That’s all I want. It’s a small price to pay for your happiness. I can even take it away, your powers, I can take them away and then you will have what you want. Pretty sure Barnes still has some swimmers and if he doesn’t surely Wanda can get you some kids, she sure did well with getting herself some.
     - Y/N! - Wanda’s voice broke through the two woman’s conversation. Agatha smirked, purple eyes replacing her regular blue ones. - Y/N!
     - I think you need to make a choice, dear.

WandaVision, episode 7
Guess who’s got terrible anxiety-related insomnia lately that means she was awake at 4 am to watch the latest episode of WandaVision right away?
This gal.
So...spoilers ahoy.
This is your warning - here be spoilers for the episode.
This post will be tagged appropriately, so if you have spoilers anywhere in your blacklist it should snag this post.
Is that enough warning for spoilers?
Okay, here we go.
**********
In which we get a lot of (unsurprising) answers, and are now winding up for the climax of the entire show.
Are we at all surprised that SWORD gets turned into a circus?  I’m not, because that whole agency is a freakin’ clown car at this point, and Hayward is the chief clown.  And we have confirmation now that Hayward is all about getting Vision back and weaponizing him.  Which, yeah, we figured, but confirmation.  Hayward’s a dick, but not the ultimate bad guy.
That’s the theme of this episode: Confirmation.
Mah baby Darcy Lewis is still awesome, shaking off her chains and giving that transformed SWORD agent the punch he so rightly deserves. *chef’s kiss*  Aside from that, she’s a little bit Miss Exposition in this episode and not much else, so I’m hoping we’ll see some more goodness from her in the next two episodes.  She’s still in the Hex, and I have to think she’s going to have more of a role to play yet.
Vision: brain scrambled, yet still trying to figure out what the hell’s going on.  Just about done with everyone’s shit and wants his wife back.  I’m thinking this will also come in handy in the next episode too.
Monica freakin’ Rambeau. I LOVE YOU. Smart and stubborn and taking all of those good qualities from the people who raised you and turning you into something even more amazing than you were before.  All this to say that YES, we are getting Photon, or Spectrum, or whatever name you’re going by in this show and I cannot wait to see you really light it up.  Also, nice touch with the undersuit from the SWORD space suit - it bears a strong, strong resemblance to her superhero gear from the comics.  I admit, I squeed.
Also, and this may be a little selfish of me, I’m kind of glad that Monica’s contacts were just rogue SWORD agents and not a member of the Fantastic Four being introduced early.  While it would have been fantastic (pardon the pun) it’ll let Marvel give them the epic entrance that they deserve. Also, and this is totally a me thing, I have some issues with the popular actors being tossed around to play Reed Richards, so I’m glad I could put that disappointment off for a little longer.
Wanda, listen to Monica.  You’re not the villain here, despite what Hayward wants you to think.  I do like that she’s kind of suffering from an almost magic hangover here - the expansion of the Hex in the last episode really knocked it out of her, and I’m glad we’re seeing the results of that.  Both in Wanda’s tiredness reflected in the 2000s style sitcom (I was totally reminded of The Office here, was anyone else?) and the fact that her grip on the Hex is slipping and going back and forth in time.
Huh, okay, we’ve spotted Dottie and the Mailman again. *makes notes*  Still not sure of their importance, but they were definitely focused on during that scene between Monica and Wanda, so I’m watching them.
And, finally, in the least surprising revelation this episode had for us, Agnes is indeed Agatha Harkness and has had a hand in manipulating this entire thing.  Given that this twist has been predicted since before the show was even airing, the switch to Agatha having her own theme song at the end of the episode (because this is her show now, you know) was more amusing than anything else.  That said, it was a great way to do a quick recap of all of the episodes and give us flashes of what manipulative fuckery she was doing behind the scenes without wasting time on an exposition dump that could just drag on.  Fake!Pietro?  Totally on her.  I’m guessing that messed up Stork is also (...maybe the stork is really a transformed Senor Scratchy?  Idk, the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet so this theory isn’t fully fleshed out).  And, given that she made Billy and Tommy disappear into parts that we haven’t discovered yet, I’d be surprised if this whole thing isn’t to use those boys to her own ends (or Mephisto’s, supposedly.  I’m not sure if Agnes is the big bad here, or if she’s reporting to someone else).
Wanda, my darling, your rage and your grief is powerful, but so is your love for what’s yours.  Remember that, because that’s what’s going to help you out of this mess.
Finally - ooooh, post (mid) credits scene!  We’ve hit the right time in the television timeline for this to make sense too. :D
Is it next Friday yet?

Regarding the WandaVision Finale...
Man, this finale is…not good. It’s a massive shame because I actually love the first eight episodes. The first two were both in black & white and acted like totally normal sit-coms but they still had some mystery in them that kept me on the edge of my seat. Episode 3 did the exact same thing just in colour. And Episode 4 to 8 were all perfect in my eyes. I had so much faith for the finale because of these episodes that were leading up to it.
Now, I am a fan of theories so of course I started reading into the theories surrounding this show. I understand that people are saying ‘don’t be annoyed about the Evan Peter’s reveal, it’s your fault for believing he was the Fox Quicksilver’. I agree that my imagination started going wild but is it really that bad of a thing to complain about this? I mean, MCU, who are literally making a film called ‘MULTIVERSE of madness’ and have said that WandaVision ties into that film and then they bring Evan Peters, a fan fav from the Fox X-men films, just to do a shitty boner joke? OF COURSE I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FOX X-MEN VERSION OF QUICKSILVER or atleast a character that wasn’t a dick joke. But hey, maybe they have plans for him, I hope so because Evan Peters is a great actor in my opinion.
Forgetting all of that for a second, the fight scenes weren’t interesting. Wanda vs. Agatha was fine but the green screen was iffy at points and in the end, it was just two witches shooting CGI lazers at each other just the standard MCU fight scenes. Vision vs. White Vision was okay and I really enjoyed their conversation but it wasn’t anything that crazy and White Vision just flies away lol.
Agatha just turns back into Agnes…okay. White Vision is basically just the old vision without any soul…okay. Wanda’s kids ‘die’ in a sad scene - good scene by the way - but then it’s revealed they’re still alive (in some form) in the post-credit scene…okay.
AND THEN THE FINAL BIT OH MY GOD. What the fuck happened to the writers? Monica tells Wanda after she gets rid of the hex and the kids+vision fade away that the people at Westview will never know what she ‘sacrificed’ for them…WHAT THE FUCK? Wanda tortured these people, they hate her, she did this to them. I get that she was depressed and full of grief but she should definitely be in prison or somewhere like prison. Darcy gets one line at the end and then they just say ‘she’s went home now’ or some shit. Monica meets a skrull, I don’t care. Although Monica was pretty dope so I am sort of excited to see more of her. Hayward went from an dickhead to a ‘let’s shoot these kids’ guy real quick. So lazy. A last ditch attempt at making sure people think that Hayward is the ReAl ViLlAiN when Wanda was the one that did all this shit. Minus the shooting the kids thing, Hayward was right! She was doing all of that!
Overall, this disappointed me. The show was flawless until the last episode and then suddenly is went to shit. A bunch of crap just squashed into one episode. It just didn’t work for me, man. Overall the show gets an 8. Would’ve been a 9 or a 10 if it wasn’t for the last episode.

Okay, so episode 8. We finally get answers, and more importantly Billy and Tommy are safe! Well, relatively speaking. They're alive at least.
Agatha continues to be the best villain of the MCU so far, and her theme song is confirmed to still be a bop. Really hope they keep her around, she could play the villain for DS2 if they do.
One of the things I have questions about is, what forbidden knowledge did she steal from her coven? It sounds as if her stealing that knowledge was what corrupted her, and if that's the case then I really want to find out what it was.
It's almost a meme at this point, but...Mephisto? One episode left, and we haven't seen him, so I guess he'll be showing up later in Phase 4. If Agatha doesn't make it past the end of next episode, then Mephisto is likely to be the DS2 villain.
Trauma abounded in this episode, and Agatha played the world's worst therapist to Wanda, but having remembered what happened and acknowledged it, I'm hopeful that Wanda will be able to move forward in a healthier way.
Also, called it, Wanda wasn't the villain, creating the Hex was an accident all along! People will no doubt say she was wrong anyway, but you try losing everything in what amounts to the blink of an eye, every hope for the future ripped away, and see how well you hold up mentally and emotionally.
There have been media forms made for decades about villains intentionally doing exactly that in order to manipulate heroes into doing what they want. Would therapy be a better choice? Of course, but with no one around to help her she was running on autopilot.
The Dream Team (Monica, Darcy, Jimmy and Vision) were almost completely absent from this episode, which is a shame, but understandable. This was definitely a Wanda episode, and the focus was where it should have been.
Hayward is a dick, as usual. But now we know he was lying to people about Wanda stealing Vision's body, so why? To paint her as the villain, sure, but again, why? Is he just angling to remove her from the equation, or get her under his control? I'm not sure why her stealing Vision's body makes her any more the villain than he could already have painted her as.
The only reason I can see is from the post-credit scene, where we discover that he has rebuilt Vision's body. Albeit a lot paler than before...
If he wanted Vision back online and Wanda couldn't do it, then I guess he felt he had to paint her as the villain to cover up his own activities. Otherwise she could have gone blabbing about his unethical experiments.
Now, finally, let's talk about the White Vision from the post-credits scene. Apparently, in the comics, that form is basically Vision without his memories/personality. I kind of want to know what that gem on his forehead is, it obviously can't be the Mind Stone this time. Some kind of focusing crystal for a beam based weapon?
My theory, and I really hope I'm right this time, is that the Vision we're used to, who we now know is a construct from Wanda's memories of him, will merge with the repaired body, restoring his personality, if not his memories, and giving Wanda back her robot husband.
On that note, in the scene where Wanda created the Hex, we see Vision being formed by her Chaos Magic. But it's a completely different colour of magic, or soul, or whatever it's meant to be, to Wanda's magic.
Agatha says that it's the magic of creation. The power to create, even from nothing, which explains Billy and Tommy. But maybe it explains Vision, too. Her subconscious mind simply recreated his soul, based on her memories of him. Souls being souls, of course, he then started growing and changing from there.
This might also explain why Wanda's magic can't control him, and why he can break her spells. This version was literally created by her magic, not only is he immune to it but he can undo it if needed. And recreate it, as we saw when he put people back under the spell.
All of this is my way of saying, please let Vision survive the end of this show. Please? Right now I give it 50:50 odds that he comes back to stay, but with body and soul/mind existing, he could be brought back. Please, Marvel, just let these two live happily. Let them have their little house in Westview, or wherever they decide to live.

wandavision ep 6 spoilers
i just want vision to not die like c’mon marvel throw me and paul bettany a bone here DX they cant finally give him amazing character work and then be like ‘well we cant break rules and bring the dead back because of THEMES, guys’ idc about themes i care about wanda and vision not being the only avengers to get dicked over
anyway. ahem. as suspicious as i always was of agnes (especially since the last episode) i always considered the possibility she is just going along with things, especially since we knew about that scene of her in the car for the longest time now, and the scene in it’s entire context mostly cemented that for me. its possible wanda just casted her as the best friend and shes just following accordingly. i mean if not then agnes is an amazing actress. i do think something else is going with her (shes dressed up like a witch like come on) but her fear felt genuine so im taking her off the ‘is an antagonist’ table for now
people are also suspicious of peter now as he seems to be interrogating Wanda and appears to know this is fake and not really caring if she knows, but to me this is wanda having a chat with herself and trying to make herself feel less guilty over what shes doing. it also gives her a space to speak freely about her past/true feelings about the matter, peter even says something along the lines of ‘im not your kids im not you husband, im your brother’, the implication being that wanda could always talk to her actual brother about everything, so shes subconsciously projecting this role onto him so she can work through shit in her head. but i could be wrong, this show flip flops me all over the place every week. theres also a line peter says about her kid being a demon spawn, which could mean nothing, or mean a lot of things lol
it does seem like theyre steadily getting to the ‘she created this world by accident’ route which im leaning towards heavily, and would also just kinda of prefer that anyway because wanda is SUPPOSE to be this powerful, id feel cheated if she had help. Only issues i have with this the barrier being blue at first until she enforced it last episode why would it be blue.
the most that could be happening is some entity or foe out there is using Wanda’s powers for their gain, and if this is the case it’s definitely her kids. Either someone wanted Wanda to have kids, hence all the weird ‘for the children’ and just general egging her on about it in the first 2 episodes, or Wanda herself was subconsciously projecting this onto people to tell her because it’s what the ideal suburban life is, though that seems like a VERY roundabout way to do it, usually if Wanda wants something she just has it or does it, no one suggests it to her.

WandaVision Episode 5 Thoughts
*5 minutes of screaming*
Spoilers below
-Wanda and Vision and the twins are so cute it hurts
-especially in the opening credits omg its gonna suck when it all goes to hell
-Is Monica getting her powers??
-When Jimmy said “That’s an oversimplification” to Hayward talking about how Wanda got radicalized, I was so happy. Like there were other forces at play here, don’t be making Wanda the bad guy
-Ok so Tyler Hayward is a dick which sucks because I kinda wanted him just to be a stick in the mud guy but not an asshole
-That footage of Wanda breaking into SWORD (There is definitely more to the story I do not trust Hayward)
-Darcy, Monica and Jimmy are the ultimate trio, Jimmy getting coffee for the three of them is so cute
-When Wanda walked out of the force field in her whole outfit dragging the drone I was so scared. And her accent!
-Also Monica just taking Jimmy’s gun off his holster was so hot idk why
-the colour of Wanda's magic can be seen through the black and white drone???
-The Lagos ad omg “for messes you didn’t mean to make” stopppp
-EVAN PETERS! XMEN IN MCU
-”she recast Pietro?” same Darcy
-I firmly believe Aaron Taylor Johnson will eventually show up at some point because Peter from the XMen is very different  personality-wise than Pietro so Wanda will know something is really wrong but maybe I’m just 🤡

wandavision spoilers / thoughts
it’s me rambling about the season and the episode and just stuff from the comics as well
I want to preface this by saying I read the comics so like i know which ones they took parts from to use as the plot in this. But anyways this is about to be way too long I’ m sorry.
I’ll start with white vision because they changed a lot about him in the comics when we meet him and he’s that white color it’s because he has no human component and is emotionless meaning we see him tell wanda he doesn’t love her or the twins now we all knew hayward was a dick so him making this version of vision doesn’t surprise me but now we have the the hex vision has given white vision his memories back and he’s just dipped which means he’s going to come back at some point (also paul literally joked about working with someone he always wanted to work with it was himself)
Now let’s talk about the twins or the other maximoff twins that we saw disappear but heard at the end again they kind of changed there storyline but not. In the comics agatha gives them to mephisto who eats them and later they defeat him and are reincarnated as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd and recruited to join the young avengers where they realize they are long lost twins so they are definitely still out there and the end of the episode proves it (also they better let billy marry hulking still i also need to have them keep Tommy being bi).
Wanda, i love she’s finally coming to terms with her magic and powers and learning i do and it’s proving how powerful she can be and wandavision gave us a taste of the house of m storyline but in her own version rather than all the other versions of the perfect life she gave everyone and we love bringing the iconic scarlet witch outfit into everything finally. I want to love wanda and i do to a degree i just really dislike how the mcu has handled her backstory and her character
I saved him for last because i know this is going to be a long part of this post (sorry) but its time for me to talk about fake pietro/peter/ralph whoever we want to call him because I have a theory about him still because I don’t think it was a coincidence they chose Evan to come back and play Pietro. Lets go back to the beginning when Jimmy mentions he has someone in witness protection he hasn’t heard from for awhile and went to check on and this someone is never revealed like they just never mentioned them again at all even while putting together the board for town people. Is peter that person because at this point we’d have to know the multi-verse is real like this is at least after endgame so we know of the alternate timelines. But now back to ralph so agatha was controlling him and he had the necklace so we know most of his interactions with wanda weren’t really his own but why did he still have super speed even when he wasn’t around wanda like agatha seems like the person who would only let him have the powers when they were necessary (also yes i just refuse to believe its not peter i think thats been established)
(Also ya’ll really thought mephisto was going to show up after we saw that fly cause he was one in the comics that was a reach)

“WandaVision In Review”
Tumblr media
The first of many Marvel Disney+ shows has just recently concluded.  With fan theories running rampant, and twists and turns during almost every episode, it isn’t surprising that WandaVision was so successful.  However, the show is not without its own issues as nothing can ever be quite perfect.  Below is our spoiler-filled review of WandaVision.
My first impression when watching the early (first two) episodes of WandaVision was confusion.  I had a hard time trying to determine why Disney and Marvel would take us on a nostalgia tour through classic television series featuring two underserved and underutilized Avengers.  I have to admit, I wasn’t overly invested in the project in the beginning.  I enjoyed the references to The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched, but I honestly didn’t care much for it past that point.  Despite this, I kept watching for curiosity’s sake, and it certainly paid off.
When it becomes clear that Wanda is more in control of this reality than was initially assumed, I was hooked.  I’m a big fan of Wanda Maximoff as a character.  In the comics she has been a force to be reckoned with and the Marvel Cinematic Universe hadn’t seized the opportunity to really utilize her until this point.  It was exciting to see Wanda use her powers in a way we hadn’t gotten to see on screen before, and the ending definitely implies that this is just the tip of the iceberg for her.
As someone who has been critical of Vision in both comics and film, I have to say that this did wonders for his character as well.  We finally get to see a more “human” side of the synthezoid.  That said, it’s hard to determine how real this side of him was, as he’s technically a manifestation of Wanda’s grief.  At the very least, we get to see Vision as Wanda saw him, which is almost beautiful in its own right.
As mentioned above, some of the best content to come out of WandaVision is the character development.  While the two titular characters had the most development, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the other characters who stuck out.  The first of which is Monica Rambeau.  The last time we saw this character she was a child in Captain Marvel, and while she may have been dreaming for the stars, she had a lot of growing up to do before she became the version of her we see in the show.
Monica was another bright spot in the show, she was fearless, and certainly didn’t back away from a challenge.  She, similarly to Wanda, is dealing with grief.  Losing her mother in addition to the last five years of her life, would be maddening to anyone, yet Monica jumps right back in to work at SWORD, and is often the voice of reason throughout the series. It was also incredibly exciting to see Monica get her powers after being exposed to the boundaries of Wanda’s “hex” three separate times.  We even got to see her powers in action, first being able to withstand Wanda’s attack to get her to leave the neighborhood again, and then being literally bulletproof in the finale.  I don’t think I need to go too deeply into the significance of the MCU literally giving us a bulletproof black female superhero! It was amazing, seeing her protect Billy and Tommy, while also being impervious to Hayward’s attack.  It was a powerful scene that only highlighted Monica’s character even more.
However, what impressed me most about this character was her empathy to Wanda.  No one would have been overly critical of Monica if she had taken Hayward’s side.  After all, she too was held hostage by Wanda and forced to play a role in Wanda’s show. The experience was even described as “excruciating,” in Hayward’s retelling of Monica’s experience, and yet Monica is unyielding in her opinion that Wanda is not doing this maliciously.  In fact, she willingly exposes herself back into the “hex” despite knowing that it is quite literally altering her DNA, with unknown side effects.  This was something that Jimmy Woo wasn’t even willing to expose himself to once.  During his first scene in the show, he says he doesn’t enter the town because he can “feel” that they’re not supposed to go inside.  He stays true to that throughout the series, only entering Westview when Wanda breaks down the “hex” during the final episode.
As mentioned previously, Jimmy Woo was another character we got to see develop a bit since his Ant-Man and the Wasp appearance.  He and Thor’s Darcy Lewis, were oftentimes the comic relief in the show when things got heavier.  However, we got to see a side of Jimmy Woo’s character that we hadn’t seen before.  While he was appreciated in Ant-Man and the Wasp, he was often at odds with Scott Lang as he was assigned to make sure that Scott was following his house arrest.  It was refreshing to see Jimmy defy Hayward and fight back, being a key role in thwarting his escape.
It was nice to see Darcy Lewis get in on the action as well.  In the Thor franchise she was often comic relief but rarely in the spotlight during action scenes.  While she still didn’t do much fighting in WandaVision it was refreshing to see her stop Hayward with her stolen truck, and have her be the leading expert during SWORD’s investigation of Wanda.  It was particularly exciting to see that she has earned her doctorate, so she is no longer Jane’s intern, and isn’t playing second fiddle to Jane Foster or Erik Selvig.
Finally, Kathryn Han’s Agatha Harkness is also deserving of praise.  With the exception of a few of the films, Marvel has had a bit of an issue with giving fans villains that were worthy adversaries to their favorite heroes.  This was not the case with Agatha Harkness.  Seeing her toy with Wanda throughout the series was a highlight of the show and seeing her be a full fledged witch was equally as exciting.  While Wanda defeated her in the finale, they certainly left the door open for Agatha to return, and I certainly hope they find a way to incorporate her in the future.
While I have mostly praised WandaVision, I have to mention some of the negatives as well.  Overall, I greatly enjoyed the show, there are still a few points that I took issue with.  The first of which is Maria Rambeau.  Maria Rambeau was last seen in the Captain Marvel film and had become a bit of a fan favorite.  She was a pilot, similar to Carol Danvers before gaining powers from the Space Stone, single mother, and according to WandaVision the eventual director of SWORD, yet she is killed off-screen from cancer.
While this is frustrating for a number of reasons, I was particularly miffed because Marvel still has a long way to go in terms of diversity in their films, and to kill off one of your few female black characters off screen left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.  That’s without getting too deep into the fact that many fans were hopeful that Maria and Carol might have a romantic relationship in the sequel, and this all but confirms that won’t be the case. This adds another layer to the fact that Marvel has yet to have an LGBTQ+ hero in the films.
Additionally, the Marvel films have always handled Wanda and Pietro’s Romani roots poorly.  Not only are the actors not of Romani descent, the culture of their characters is often used as a prop or a joke.  Specifically, Wanda’s costume in the Halloween episode being referred to as a “fortune teller.”
Additionally, having the twins willing join Hydra--a Nazi organization while having Romani and Jewish roots, through their father Erik Lehnsherr, in the comics has always rubbed me the wrong way.  WandaVision had an opportunity to remedy that when Wanda is reliving her past.  They could have easily given us a one off line about Wanda and Pietro not knowing that it was Hydra when they signed up to be experimented on and didn’t find out until later.  Unfortunately, all we get is a line about the twins wanting to “change the world.”
One of the other issues that I took was the presence of Evan Peters’s Quicksilver.  Initially, I was very excited to see him show up on the show and hoped that this meant we’d be seeing more of Fox’s X-Men in future Marvel films. Not only was he not the real Quicksilver, but he was instead just a long running “boner” joke, as he was Ralph Bohner, Wanda and Vision’s next door neighbor that Agatha was controlling.  While I wasn’t expecting him to be a huge character,  I was hoping for something a bit more significant than Ralph Bohner.
Finally, something that has been sticking out in my head for a while is Jimmy Woo’s missing person.  Jimmy Woo mentions in his first scene that Quantico had sent him to investigate a missing person in witness protection, who lived in Westview.  Initially, this was who I believed Evan Peters’s character to truly be, yet when Jimmy sees him on screen in the All New Halloween Spectacular episode, he just makes a note that Pietro has “the wrong face,” and doesn’t indicate that he recognizes him.  In fact, Jimmy’s missing person is never mentioned again later in the season and it seems as though that was just a plot device used to include him in the show.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed WandaVision.  It was refreshing to have Marvel be able to spend six hours to devote to character development and plot rather than it just being action-centric.  I think the show was an excellent first step in setting up a post-Iron Man Cinematic Universe.  After Avengers: Endgame, so many characters were lost, and it felt like a finale of sorts.  I think this was a great way to continue the story with a whisper rather than a bang, and I look forward to their upcoming Disney+ content.
WandaVision is currently streaming on Disney+.

Dick Powell: From Musicals to Noir by Susan King
Tumblr media
In the fall of 1993, I got the plum assignment to interview Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers, who were reuniting to make a series of Hart to Hart TV movies for NBC. So, I arrived one late afternoon in Bel-Air where the production was shooting exteriors at a vintage estate that had doubled as the Hart’s house in the original 1979-83 ABC series. The mansion was very Golden Age of Hollywood. The front “yard” was massive and beautifully manicured, and the house was equally impressive. The publicist took me aside to tell me it had been owned by Dick Powell and June Allyson.
The two were one of the power couples in Hollywood from 1945 until Powell’s death at 58 in 1963 (he died the same day as Jack Carson). I immediately remembered the first time I saw the couple in a movie. I was about six and the movie was the 1950 MGM boxing drama RIGHT CROSS, which also starred Ricardo Montalban.
When I was little, I thought Allyson was the bee’s knees. Powell didn’t interest me at all. It wasn’t until I entered USC film school in 1976 that I begin to realize just how good Powell was as an actor. But it took him a long time in his career to show this. He was under contract in the 1930s at Warner Bros., at a time when the moguls kept their stars on a tight leash casting them in roles that were variations of the same theme. Some actors were dutiful and did what they were told; others would turn down the roles and get put on suspension or loaned out to another studio. (Bette Davis actually sued the studio in 1937 to get out of her contract. She lost, but Olivia de Havilland won the battle in 1943.)
Tumblr media
Powell became a star as the male ingenue in movies and comedies at Warners, usually romancing Ruby Keeler or his second wife Joan Blondell in such films as 1935’s BROADWAY GONDOLIER. He was cute, had a nice voice and could handle comedy. Very much the fresh-faced boy next door, Powell was the type of guy parents would be thrilled if their daughters dated. And a lot of those early pre-Code musical comedies in which he appeared, such as 1933’s 42nd STREET and 1933’s GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933, are wonderful fun and often subversively surreal thanks to Busby Berkeley’s innovative production numbers.
But, Powell wanted something more and Jack Warner threw him a bone: the lavish and fanciful all-star 1935 adaptation of Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, in which Powell plays Lysander who falls in love with the fair Hermia (de Havilland in her film debut). Though I’m sure Laurence Olivier wouldn’t have felt threatened by Powell’s performance, he’s not bad.
However, Powell went back to playing the same kind of ingenue parts in a series of forgettable films. After making 1939’s NAUGHTY BUT NICE with Ann Sheridan, he left Warner Bros. and went to Paramount. His stint at Paramount delivered a mixed bag, save for the delightful 1940 Preston Sturges’ comedy CHRISTMAS IN JULY.
Tumblr media
But his career and his life turned upside down in 1944 when he turned 40. He divorced Blondell and fell in love with his MEET THE PEOPLE (’44) co-star Allyson. He also starred in the delightful Rene Clair comedy, IT HAPPENED TOMORROW, in which he played a newspaper man at the turn-of-the-century who magically gets the next day’s paper and he auditioned for the role of Walter Neff in Billy Wilder’s DOUBLE INDEMNITY. Though that role went to Fred MacMurray, another affable Paramount star looking to expand his image, Powell landed the role of world-weary gumshoe Philip Marlowe in RKO’s delicious film noir MURDER, MY SWEET.
Not only did Powell capture the Raymond Chandler character’s cynical sense of humor and smarts, but he looked like someone who had been beaten up one too many times for too little money. And there is a sort of a joy to his performance because he had been set free from playing the boy-next-door types. He was an adult male and along the way he became a noir icon.
Bosley Crowther wrote in the New York Times: “This is a new type of character for Mr. Powell. Though he may lack the steely coldness and cynicism of a Humphrey Bogart, Mr. Powell need not offer any apologies. He has definitely stepped out of the song-and-dance, pretty-boy league with this performance.” And he then made a string of terrific films including 1945’s CORNERED, 1947's JOHNNY O’CLOCK, 1948’s PITFALL, 1951’s CRY DANGER and 1952’s THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.
Tumblr media
He turned to directing in the mid-1950s directing Allyson and Jack Lemmon in YOU CAN’T RUN AWAY FROM IT (‘56), an ill-fated musical version of IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (‘34). Powell also directed the well-stuffed 1956 box office turkey THE CONQUERER, with a woefully miscast John Wayne as Genghis Khan. Unfortunately, the film was shot near a former nuclear test site in Utah and numerous people involved in the production—including Powell, Wayne, Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead and Pedro Armendariz—all died of cancer.
Powell’s last project was the 1961-1963 anthology series The Dick Powell Show, which he introduced each week and executive produced. The series was changed to The Dick Powell Theater on Jan. 8, 1963, just six days after his death at 58. Guest hosts filled out the rest of the season beginning with Gregory Peck.
UPI TV writer Rick Du Brow wrote that Peck’s brief remarks about Powell’s legacy avoided any “theatricality,” adding that Peck introduced the episode saying: “I’m speaking for a man who was a great and good friend to our industry” and that it was a privilege for the guest hosts to continue the series as “a memorial to Dick Powell.”

Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ shooting could have been avoided if ‘if they had done a proper safety check’: prop master
The shocking death of Halyna Hutchins has left the film industry stunned.
The cinematographer died Thursday after Alec Baldwin fired a loaded weapon that was handed to him by an assistant director who mistakenly believed it was safe to use on the New Mexico set of “Rust.” She was 42. Director Joel Souza was also hit and injured but has since been released from the hospital.
“[My reaction] was, ‘Wow, somebody messed up,’” prop master Lucien Charles told Fox News. “When you go to work, you’re not expecting to die that day. It’s just a bad situation.”
The 49-year-old, who is based in New York, has been a prop master for nearly 20 years. Before the coronavirus pandemic, he worked on “FBI: Most Wanted,” a television series executive produced by Dick Wolf. He’s currently involved with a Morgan Freeman film where the actor, 84, “does have a gun in it.”

“Props are anything that the actor will have in their hands,” Charles explained. “We’re responsible for preparing all the stuff that they need to tell the story. Whatever’s in the script – vehicles, weapons, newspapers. Even background actors, we’ll give them [props] to tell the story.”
A prop firearm is a loose definition that could apply to anything from a rubber toy to a real firearm that can fire a projectile, The Associated Press described. However, it’s considered a real gun if it’s used for firing, even with just blanks. A blank, the outlet noted, is a type of gun cartridge that contains gunpowder but no bullet. Still, it can seriously hurt or kill someone close by, the Actors Equity Association noted.
Charles said that on his sets in New York City, there are strict guidelines involved to ensure the safety of both cast and crew.
“We have a vendor where we rent guns that are specifically modified to shoot blanks if there’s any firing in the scene,” he explained. “And then once it gets to the set… we have to clear the guns with the police officers so they’re aware of what we have.”

According to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for New York City, the NYPD Movie and TV Unit must be requested and assigned to a filming location when a project has a scene with prop firearms, weapons or actors in police uniforms. It states that all decisions about what is permitted are made by the Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting “working in close consultation with the NYPD Movie & TV Unit, and other key agencies.”
A rep for the New Mexico Film Office referred Fox News to IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), which didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Local 480, the film union hub in New Mexico, also didn’t immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
Charles also noted that safety meetings are essential for the whole crew.
“We make the announcement about the weapons, how the weapons are going to shoot and what rounds we’re loading … ,” he said. “Once all of that goes through, we hand the gun to the actor. We make sure they’re aware if it’s either a hot gun, if it’s loaded with blanks, or if it’s a cold gun and it has no bullets in it.”

Charles said that whenever there’s a shooting scene involved, the crew has to “stay away from wherever the action is.”
“Usually a camera will be there,” he said. “We’ll give them shade shields [and] ear protection, depending on how loud the load is. I do a safety check every time before I hand a gun to an actor. If you do enough safety checks along the way, nothing should happen. But obviously, the gun on Alec Baldwin’s set was not checked. Because if it was, they would have seen the bullet in there. Because a blank and a bullet look like two different types of ammo. With a bullet, you know. You have the bullet at the end of the casing. But on a blank, the front is crimped.”
“They would have been able to tell the difference if they had done a proper safety check,” he added.
Charles said he’s never been afraid or worried that something could go wrong on any set he’s working on because there are always multiple safety checks involved before a prop gun is used.

“I know what I’m handing [the actor],” he said. “Plus, you can’t really load a real bullet into a prop gun that’s been modified. The casings for the blanks are a little thinner, a little smaller, and they modify the barrel. So a real bullet can’t be put in it.”
Charles also pointed out that when it came to projects he’s been involved with like “The Blacklist” and “FBI: Most Wanted,” the actors became well-educated with the props they were using – and what can occur if they’re not careful.
“They did send the actors to weapons specialists for theatrical gun training – how to hold a gun,” he said. “Because a lot of them, they don’t know how to hold a gun and never shot a gun before. So they get… the same class that union members take with the vendor weapon specialists.”
The weapons master is required to be on set whenever a weapon is being used. The Actors’ Equity Association’s guidelines state that “Before each use, make sure the gun has been test-fired off stage and then ask to test fire it yourself. Watch the prop master check the cylinders and barrel to be sure no foreign object or dummy bullet has become lodged inside.” Further, “All loading of firearms must be done by the property master, armorer or experienced persons working under their direct supervision.”

The specific circumstances of the “Rust” shooting are still being investigated.
“[I hope] people become more aware of doing safety checks and having stricter guidelines on set,” he said. “And hire a professional with the experience and the credentials to handle the job.”
