How about some laughs? Can you whip up a fic of Haylee losing her temper at a joke that was pulled on her? Sheâll scream in anger and then trigger a blue fire explosion, leaving an area where sheâs standing scorched and blackened.
Oh, okay! Between you and me, Haylee probably won't get along with NiGHTS due to her mischievous nature.
"Remind me again why a blindfold is on me," Haylee said to NiGHTS as the purple Nightmaren placed a blindfold onto her head.
"That's easy," NiGHTS said. "You'll be playing a guessing game. Without looking, I'll play a sound and you have to guess what makes it. Sound fair?"
"Pretty much." Haylee simply shrugged in response. "Ready when you are."
NiGHTS nodded and played the first sound. It was the sound of a puppy barking.
"It's a puppy," Haylee guessed.
"Correct," NiGHTS replied with a mischievous smile. "Now to the next one." NiGHTS then played the second sound. It was a kitten mewing.
"That is a kitten." Haylee smiled, knowing how easy it was.
"Okay, the next sound is going to be tricky." NiGHTS let out a playful giggle. "Ready?"
Haylee nodded in anticipation. Unbeknowst to her, NiGHTS held a horn in her hands. She positioned it close to Haylee's ear and honked it. This caused Haylee to yelp and jump.
"NiGHTS!!!" Haylee screamed. "How dare you prank me!" Before the First-level could respond, Haylee's powers were triggeredâŚand a blue fire explosion occured, scorching the area that that the two were in.
Haylee blinked in surprise upon calming down. "IâŚmay have gone out of lineâŚ" She sheepishly admitted.
NiGHTS was now covered from head to toe in soot, despite not being burnt. "Lesson learned; I'm never playing games with you ever againâŚ"
(Hope you like this. I know it's short, but this is what I came up with.)

Check out the short film/music video my 17 year old sister made about a teenage girl battling depression. If you like this, please reblog it. I think itâs message is powerful, especially coming from a teenage girl herself.Â

Double trouble - 1.
It was early Saturday morning. Katlyn was already awaken, preparing healthy breakfast. She wore gauzy dress pink shaded. Summer was hot this year so it seemed to be a perfect outfit at the moment. Her long, blonde hair fell on the left shoulder and delicate make up gave her a girly and stylish look. As soon as she put everything on the table, her father entered the kitchen. He was already fully dressed, ready to go to work.
'Daddy, breakfast' she said but she knew what his answer will be. He kissed her forehead and took car keys.
'Sorry honey but I have no time. Do me a favor and don't let your sister sleep till noon.' He rushed to the car and drove away. Katlyn sighed. That happened every weekend. Her father never had time and her sister never was in mood... She grabbed her phone and made a picture of the table. "Family breakfast! Yummy" She wrote and published it on Instagram. Likes and comments already started appearing. Suddenly she heard a car horn. That was postman. She went outside to take letters. Most of them was bills but it was one which caught her attention. She hurried to her sister's room and entered without knocking.
'You are so smart but you didn't hear about a privacy?' Leila sat on her bed. She looked at her sister with angrily gaze. They were twins but they were totally different. Katlyn was girly, delicate and stylish while her sister had more alternative style. Her long, blonde hair was blended with blue at the ends. She had a lip piercing and dark, heavy make up.
'Can you tell me - Katlyn ignored her question - what Duskwood's police wants from you?' She showed her a small envelope with letter. Leila jumped on her feet and took it out of her hand. Her heart started beating faster. She was looking at the small piece of paper and she couldn't believe it. How they got her address so quick?
'Earth to Leila - her sister called. - Should I call dad?'
Leila threw her warning gaze.
'Don't you dare - she answered. - Besides its not your business, get out.'
She made her went out and shut the door. She opened a letter with shaking hands. It was summoning for interrogation. Suddenly it hit her with a double strength. This investigation never was more real for her like at this moment. The world which was just on the other side of her phone screen started permeating to her reality. She took her phone and started typing.
"Looks like I have to go to Duskwood. Don't you think it's a great opportunity to finally catch up?"
She didn't have to wait long for the respond.
"What do you mean you have to go to Duskwood, Leila? This is the worst idea you could have."
"It's not mine idea - she answered. - it's Alan's."
She took a picture of the summoning and sent him.
"He found me. Looks like I have no choice."
For a very long minute Jake didn't reply. Leila fell down on her bed. After a while, which seemed an eternity for her, her phone beeped.
"Looks like that, yes."
She had a bad feeling about it. But it was a bright side of whole this situation, she will finally see her friends! Next day Leila was packed. She took all important stuffs, all her savings and made a calls from early morning. She had to book tickets last minute and ask friends to cover her shifts at work. She was on the phone with one of her college when Katlyn entered the kitchen.
'Please Haylee - she said imploringly. - I will own you!... It's just a week... Zig will cover the other one...'
Katlyn was listening all that. She never understood why Leila didn't want to work at dad's company. It wouldn't be a problem to get a holiday and it was a better money, but for some reason, Leila didn't get along with their father. After their mother's death she became wild and angry. That was painful watch her like that but they couldn't do anything. Leila didn't let anyone to get closer to her. Psychologist said she needs some time, but time went through and Leila didn't get better.
'Thanks Haylee, you are the best' she hung up.
'I can't understand - Katlyn said - why you struggle there.'
'You don't understand lots of things - Leila answered when she made herself a coffee. - Specially this one's which are not put on Instagram.'
Her phone rang. Katlyn tried to see who is this. Jake's name appeared on the screen and Leila immediately picked it up.
'Got it! - she said. - Tomorrow evening I will be at motel room.'
Kat didn't understand anything of that but she knew one thing, she will not let her sister go alone. She checked her flight and booked tickets for her own. She packed suitcase and left a letter to their dad in the kitchen. She arrived to Duskwood late evening. It was already dark outside. She stood in front of motel with terrified grimace on her face. She didn't used to low standards.
'Chill - she whispered to herself. - You are doing it for Leila.'
She was about to walk in when somebody suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her into bushes. She sighed and wanted to scream when her attacker kissed her passionately and gently stroked her cheek. She closed her eyes and kissed him back. He cupped her face and put a warm kiss on her forehead.
'I wanted do that so bad' he whispered. Katlyn pushed him gently and looked at him. He was taller than she, slim and pale. His black hair was disheveled and he had dark circles under his cold, blue eyes. He wore gray hoodie and jeans and gave her a geek vibe.
'I... ' she started but he interrupted her.
'There is no time - he said. - Listen to me carefully, Leila. You have to deny any conection with me. It is dangerous for you, do you hear me?'
Katlyn just nodded. She didn't know what Leila put herself into but it didn't look good. 'Great - he said and kissed her one more time. She got lost with it. Her heart started racing. He smelled so nice. She didn't want to get away but finally he stopped her.
'You have to go' he muttered. 'Please, just go.' She cleared her throat and slowly moved back. He was watching her until she disappeared at the motel. Leila couldn't believe her eyes. She has been waiting so long for meeting Jake and now... He is outside, kissing her sister with passion. She clench her lips. Once again, her sister is a better choice, like always. She fell on the bed. Tomorrow morning she has to talk with Katlyn. Her phone beeped. It was Jake.
"That is really nice to meet you. Sleep well Leila."

Alright my loves, I bring you the full plot drop for the Hollow Grove Blood Moon event. A few things to keep in mind:
You are welcome to continue your current threads.
New threads can take places prior to the drop or after, please just clarify. Feel free to start some threads in the aftermath of the chaos if youâd like.Â
The plot drops were written with just enough detail to give you something to work with so if it sparks an idea for you that youâd like to grow you are welcome to run with it. Feel free to message the main with anything major.Â
With so many amazing volunteers, I was not able to use everyone, however, I did make a point to make sure to include at least one of every player's characters.Â
The event still runs through Saturday so enjoy the chaos and drama.
The moon crosses the sky in a shade of blood, washing away the sins of monsters as the stars fall from the sky. Itâs almost poetic how magical a magicless night could appear. It left the strongest among them weak with vulnerability. The founders' council sees the danger in this and under the ploy of a party gatherâs the townspeople for the night. Â Knowing they can better protect those they have sworn too if they can do it in a controlled environment.
And so the Masquerade Ball is organized, what appears to be a frivolous occasion is far more calculated than that and with every safeguard put into effect, they are certain they are ready to face whatever is thrown at them this night.
As the clave creeps across the towns vulnerable borders they soon encounter several roadblocks trying to enact their plans. When it becomes clear that attacking the ball may be harder than they had originally planned they are forced to turn their attention outwards, drawing those out from the safety of the ball and into danger.
It starts with a series of distractions.
The liquor flows, the tempers rise and it's to no one's surprise a fight or two breaks out. Anya Nikolaevnaâs mouth seems to get her in trouble once more when she offends a rather drunk and awfully hotheaded stranger who quickly gets aggressive with her things take a turn. Cal Renard quickly steps in to defend her honor but the stranger's friends quickly jump in as well and before anyone really knows whatâs happening a scuffle breaks out. Dora Lind tries to break it up and gets caught in the crosshairs, knocking into a table, breaking the glass that she falls into. Â Poor Lilianna Hastings was an innocent bystander to the whole thing and in the madness of the fight, she was knocked over falling down a small set of stairs. Emmett Bryson and Chase Hastings quickly jumped in to help break up the fight, Chase agreeing to take his cousin to the hospital thinking her leg might possibly be broke. Â
After far too much to drink Julia Charles wanders out for some fresh air, as she gazed up at the night sky she strolls a bit too far from the ball and suddenly is snatched up and tossed into the back of a van. Not but ten minutes later Patto Bell comes outside looking for his friends Haylee and Dani. Unexpectedly he too is tossed into the same van as it speeds away from the ball.Â
Danielle Riley finds herself several drinks in as she stands staring absentmindedly out the window. For a moment she thinks sheâs seeing something and then Patto comes into view and she finds herself knocking on the window trying to get his attention. Watching in horror as Patto is tossed into a van she becomes overwhelmed with panic. Kitty Mastrano comes across her and words are incoherent in her current state and she begs Kitty to get Haylee Forbes. When Haylee arrives Dani tells her what she saw and for a moment Haylee thinks maybe her friend has had too many but when she tries to reach Patto, she soon feels panic settling in when she canât find him and he wonât answer her calls. Â At this point, both girls are insisting that they go search for their friend and leave the ball to try and track him down.
Sparrow Rousseau and Ronnie Greer were certainly enjoying themselves on their night out with one another. Nothing goes as planned though does it? When they move away from the crowd so they can speak more intimately they are caught off guard by the smell of smoke. An absent-mindedly toss joint catches a curtain on fire and, unfortunately for the two love birds, it interrupts a rather romantic moment and quickly turns it into chaos and panic when the corner of Sparrowâs dress catches fire. Watching the sight Valentine Remington is caught by surprise mid-bite and begins to choke. It rapidly takes a bad turn and Val passes out. Seeing this Amber Horne quickly jumps and starts doing CPR to save his life. Val awakes to a fit of coughing. Meanwhile, the fire chaos continues Ezra Gillies wanting to help rushes over with a pitcher of water trying to put it out, only to start the arm of his jacket on fire. Teodor Sigurdsson and Tony Velasquez also felt the need to jump in. Teo pulled the table cloth from a nearby table while Tony grabbed the cap off someone woman and the two managed to snuff out the small fire becoming town heroes for the night.
A series of calls come about suspicious activity at various locations in town. Isla Rafferty gets a notification that the alarms at Hellâs Kitchen are going off. Kara Sykes agrees to go with her on her way out for her patrol. A call about activity at the border has Oliver Hastings volunteering to go and check things out. Cassie Cresswell volunteers to tag along when Oliver mentions heâs headed out, wanting to get away from the crowds and just enjoy the night.
Quietly and silently the Clave works their way through town, preying on those far from the safety of the balls security.
Taking leave from the ball in search for a cheeseburger, Dylan Wright, Ian Tyler, Teddy Beacon, and AJ Thorne head to the nearest diner. The young Hollow Grove residents appear to be having a good time, enjoying the good company they find themselves in. Dylan leaves the group to use the restroom and on her way back to the table encounters a rather shady looking fellow in the hallway. She could feel it in her bones that something was off but she kept her head down and made her way back to the table. But when she passed the kitchen, she saw the bodies of the two kitchen staff laying dead in a puddle of blood. Her mouth opened to scream but the sound was cut off when a hand covered her mouth. Kicking and screaming she was dragged out the back door. Out the window, Ian saw the scuffle and without a word jumped into action from his seat. AJ and Teddy grab him, stopping him before Ian can do something crazy and in a moment of desperation, the three plan to get their friend back. Scrambling out the back door AJ and Teddy are set off to create a distraction as the three Clave men are shoving Dylan into a van. Beating a bottle against the garbage cans they create noise that draws two of the clave members away and divides the thirdâs attention, shifting it elsewhere as Ian slips out the front door. The third man wanders towards the noise, following his two friends as they disappear behind the building. Ian jumped into the driver seat of the van, finding the keys waiting for him and Dylan. It doesnât take long for them to realize that Dylan isnât alone in the van, Julia Charles and Patto Bell are also being held captive. Starting the van Ian pulled away from the clave member heading to the other end of the alleyway. Â Teddy and AJ spot the men coming around the corner and they take off towards the other end of the alleyway when a van races in front of them and the door opens to reveal Dylan yelling at them to get in. Jumping in they speed away from the alley, the clave members chasing after them until they can no longer keep up.
Ditching the van the six of them hide out in Teddy and Ianâs apartment while they try to figure out what to do next, knowing that they had to alert someone and finding themselves unable to get ahold of anyone at the ball. With that they try and make their way back, running into one of the men along the way they find themselves in a fight for their lives and when he gets his hands on AJ, Teddy sees red, hitting the man over the head leaving him unconscious and possibly dead as they flee the scene, unknowingly triggering his curse.Â
Kara and Isla arrive at Hellâs Kitchen and nothing appears to be amiss. Inside itâs quite, nothing appears out of place and for a moment the women think nothing is wrong. Itâs not until they are getting ready to leave that they overhear noise at the back. With the two approaching quietly the intruder doesnât even realize they are there. It becomes very apparent something is awry and Kara and Isla overhear a terrible plan. In their rush to leave so they can alert the others, Isla knocks over a glass, the shatter drawing attention to them and the two women are forced to make a break from the danger. Jumping in Karaâs car they drive off headed back to the ball. On the way back they find themselves with suspiciously no cell service and the radios down. Â As they are headed back their car runs over a spike strip that blows out all the tires causing the car to come to a grinding halt.
Gia Rafferty wasnât but a block away when she witnessed the cars sudden stop. Confused by the sight she hurries towards the car in time to see Isla and Kara getting out. She calls for them as she starts running towards them, but is cut short from reaching them when sheâs grabbed by a man. Her instant reaction is to push him off, shoving him into the road. The timing seemed to be on her side because she did not see the car coming down the road alongside her. Posey Mitchell had just wanted to get home at a decent hour when sheâd left the ball, there was no way she would have seen the man coming and just like that sheâd hit him. Panic set in as her car came to screeching halt. Isla and Kara finally reaching Gia and the four women stood staring at the man.
They quickly explain to Posey whatâs happening when another commotion catches there attention as another car runs over the spike strip. Poor George Chatwin, like Posey was just trying to get home. Hitting the spike strip cause his car to spin off and as Haylee and Daniâs car came around the corner from the other direction. They had no way of even seeing Georgeâs car and crashed into it rather quickly causing the car to flip upside down with the girls still inside. The nearby group immediately worked to get them out of the car, finding that they were badly bruised and cut up. They were so distracted trying to help Haylee and Danielle that they donât notice the five clave members slowly circling them, ready to attack. Fighting back the group takes cover behind a car, Kara firing her gun as they tried to figure out how to safely escape.
Chase and Tessa Hastings had been on their way to the hospital, trying to get Lily there when they saw the smoke and pile up of cars up ahead with the resounding noise of gunshots. Chase switched his car to reverse, searching for shelter at the fire station when Tessa and Lily point out that they see people they know. At this point, Dash Hastings came out of fire station in time to find Chase pulling up, he yelled out the window to his cousin that something was happening and thinking on his feet he yells at Chase to let Tessa drive and for his cousin to come inside. Giving Chase the keys to the ambulance, Dash climbs in the fire truck and tells his cousin to follow him.
By then, the clave was closing in on the group and things were looking bleak when suddenly Dash came barreling through in the fire truck, running four of the five down and causing the fifth take off. Yelling to the group, they started trying to load everyone into the different vehicles so they could escape the situation. As Gia was getting into the fire truck gun shotâs ring through the night as the fifth member of the clave started shooting at them. A bullet hit Gia in the arm and Isla helped get her into the fire truck. Reacting swiftly Kara shoot the man, killing him on the spot. Once everyone is secure the group heads for the hospital.
Following the call to the border, Oliver Hastings and Cassie Cresswell arrive to find nothing there. Like Kara and Isla had found, there didnât appear to be anything actually going on at the border. When Oliver went to put the call in through his radio was greeted with silence. Neither were able to place any calls. Finding this a bad sign they got back in the car and headed towards the ball. Not even a half mile from the border they are suddenly blinded by the bright lights of headlights in the review mirror. With another card riding their bumper they were soon driven off the road. Their car coming to a skidding halt stuck in the fresh spring mud. Acting on sheer instinct Cassie and Oliver bolt from the car, plunging into the dark woods surround them racing away from those chasing after them. Gunshots ring through the night once more and for a moment they think theyâre out of the woods and theyâve lost those who were hunting them. Finding several empty houses they break into the basement and hide out. It's once the adrenaline settles that they realize Oliver has been shot. Heâs bleeding out slowly and his energy drains from his body. Wrapping the wound Cassie tries to stop the bleeding. Having badly injured her ankle after catching it in a hole in the woods sheâs in no shape to get help and escape capture. She tries to give him her blood, hoping it might heal him but finds the blood moons effect have an impact on that ability too. The two wait hoping someone will find them before its too late, as those who hunt them lurk outside the very place they hid.
With most of the townâs little ones at the Greyson home, it was no wonder Sophia Nygaard found herself in a worried state most of the night. Several calls to her husband and Violet left her with very little comfort and when the call went unanswered later in the night Sophiaâs panic only rose. Not even Chester Cole can calm her down Checking the security cameraâs she found they were streaming nothing and with that, she knew she couldnât stay. Colton DeForest came across them at that moment and knowing his own child was there the worried father insisted he go with them, Wyatt LeBlance overhears the three and also insists that he come along to check on his son. In their panic, the three worried parents left the ball in haste, their childrenâs safety the only thing on their minds. On his way out Wyatt told Luna Shaw he was going to check, hurrying off before she could even object. Â Cole drove hoping to keep his mind on the task at hand and not let the worried parents distract him.
Luna finds herself in a worried state, frustrated that she hadnât had more time to figure out what was going on and in her anxious state she finds her way to her brother, who is in good company with Holly, Chou, and Pippa. Her brother Ned Ibarra is quick to ask whatâs going on and when she explains Ned tries to call Violet with no response. Worried about what might unfold the siblings agree they should go, Holly Chevelair, Touma Dannika, and Pippa Wilde agree to go with them wanting to help.
When Cole, Colton, Sophia, and Wyatt arrive it becomes very clear that something is very wrong. Scoping out the property they try to identify where the children, Violet, and Vince are in the large estate. It becomes clear they are not the only ones there as the four realize the clave is here. When Luna, Ned, Holly, Touma, and Pippa arrive they find Cole, Colton, Sophia, and Wyatt fighting off a few members of the clave. Sophia informs them that Violet has the children locked in her room in the north wing of the home and sets them on a mission to get the children and Violet out while they fought off these Clave members.
When Luna, Ned, Holly, Touma, and Pippa reach that area of the house they find that some of the Clave members have also figured out where Violet had hidden the children. Needing a distraction Holly is the first to volunteer and Pippa agrees to help Holly so that Luna, Ned, and Touma can get to the children and get them out. Holly pulls out all the stops with her theatric showing and Pippa plays along drawing the Clave members away from room long enough for Ned Luna and Touma to get inside. One by one they help each child escape down the hallway to a secret entrance in the wall that leads to a series of hidden tunnels in the Greyson home. Pippa and Holly make a break for barely escaping the Clave before the Clave realizes that the children are gone.
When they gather on the front lawn they find that Colton, Sophia, and Wyatt have captured the Clave members they were fighting. Loading up the children, Holly agrees to hide them at Miss Anneâs when Colton get an unexpected call. Thatâs when Violet tells them...Â
Vince Nygaard and Briar Matthews are missing.
It had been a good night for Adam Haley and Alexandra Cunningham, quite even. As the night began to wind down the two decided to head home, lulled into a sense of security that maybe just once the night wouldnât all go to hell right out from under them. Arriving home, nothing seemed out of the ordinary but the second they crossed the threshold of their home they found the truth to be far from that. There sitting in the living room was Morgan, rocking in the chair with Briar in his arms as he cooed at the little girl. Frozen in shock, fear took over them both. Taunting them it became very apparent he was there to cause strife. Setting Briar down amongst her toys he grabbed his daughter and gave Adam the ultimatum that would break his heart. It was then they realized they were not the only ones there. Jack Haley and Delilah Reyes sat unconscious in chairs sitting in the dark, gagged and bound. He reveals heâs in the company of both his daughters as Delilah and Jack both start to wake and Alex is faced with the reality that her sister sat before her. There is no time to process anything though because suddenly the odds are even less in there favor. A mixture of emotions running over Adam as the man who had single-handedly ruined his life held Alex in one hand and his brother in the other giving him one choice: Chose which one should die at his hand this night.
In the end, his decision wouldnât matter. Morgan slit Jackâs throat, never having any intention to kill his daughter. Overcome with rage and grief Adam made a move at Morgan and in the scuffle, Morgan knocked him out, doing the same to Alex he tossed her over his shoulder, retrieved Briar from the living room and left the house, leaving a passed out Adam behind him and Delilah screaming from the place she sat gaged and bound.
Scout Matthews just wanted to see his little girl and after a night of plenty of laughter and joy he couldnât stay away and so he made his way to Alexâs place. What he didnât expect was to run into Nicholas Adler on his way, who had told him that Delilah was missing but heâd tracked her back to Adamâs. Finding this an odd coincidence they hurried the rest of the way there. When they arrived they found the door ajar and alarm instantly sunk in. Inside they found Adam passed out and Delilah tied to a chair. They wake Adam and free Delilah and soon find out what had happened and together they set out to find Morgan. Tracking Alexâs phone which was discretely tucked into the pocket of her dress they are able to catch up to Morgan rather quickly. In a surprising turn of events, they catch Morgan off guard and together they are able to get Alex and Briar back unharmed and theyâve captured Morgan in the meantime.
Meanwhile, at the ball, disaster strikes.Â
A very drunk Jacob Thorne finds himself waiting outside when Ria Desai arrives to retrieve him, outside they sit watching the sky as they talk. Unbeknownst to them, they were about to stumble upon an insidious plot. Â Isaac Byrne had been wandering around outside the ball, driven by concern when heâd saw them. Grabbing Jake and Ria he pulled them into the shadows as a small group passed them. From the shadows, the three soon discover that members of the clave were trying to find a way to attack those inside enjoying their night at the ball. Â They speak of a plan to take out the Originals and capture the Supreme. Waiting until the coast was clear the three jumped into action. Hurrying inside they make haste to warn those who might be in danger, passing Stefan Reyes, who was preparing to leave, they warned him about the Claveâs plot to snatch the supreme hoping he can help them find her and they head into the party to warn the others.
Finding Nathaniel Greyson with his brother Dominik Greyson they warn the originals of what theyâd heard and without alerting the crowd to the impending danger. They take Jake and Ria off with a small group of those who can not defend themselves to hide out in the kitchen.
Joslyn Blackwell wanders into the night seeking the solace and quite on a viewing deck outside. Reveling in the silence she gets the overwhelming feeling she is not alone. Before she can turn around to see the man lunging from the shadows. Avery Carter-Wate catches him by surprise and knocks him unconscious saving the originals life.
All it takes is one word to reveal the truth. Uncle. It had been the most innocent word but it would be the one to reveal the truth to the wrong person. It would mean the end for one. Jonathan Knight and Emma Sawyer thought they were going to get away with just enjoying their night in good company as they headed back to the main area and thatâs when they see a body laying slumped into the middle of the hallway. Jonathan and Emma start running towards the body and it doesnât take but a few feet for Jonathan to realize who it was. Madge Knight lay in a puddle of blood gasping for breath. Emma steps in, addressing the stab wound to her abdomen. The life slipping quickly from her body as Jonathan pleads for his sister to hang in there. Picking her up they come across their uncle first, Noah Blackwell sees them coming towards them first and ushers them away from the crowd. An act of war, Noah knows this is no accident. Someone had struck his family and they would come for the rest of them. As Emma tries to help Madge, Noah sends Jonathan to get a car and goes to find the rest of his family warn them.
Noah returns to find Lukas Blackwell, Tobias Pierce, and Mac Cameron. Gathering the Blackwellâs best fighters he alerts them to the danger setting Tobias off to find Joslyn and Mac off to find Maggie.
Unaware of the dangers that were creeping up on them Maggie Blackwell found herself caught off guard as well. Thankfully Nathaniel showed up just in time. As the Clave member went to make their move Nathaniel stepped in stopping him. Filling Maggie in on what was going on they made the plan to gather the others to help fight off the clave. Together they could stop the madness and protect their people. Maggie heads off to find her siblings who are already gathered and ready to fight and Nathaniel recruits anyone in the pack who could fight. Quietly and discretely the news started to spread throughout the ball that danger lurked and together they prepared themselves. Those who could not fight were carefully advised to head to the kitchen where Jake and Ria were keeping the others.
From the outside, the room looked like it was primed for attacking, like shooting fish in a barrel but when the Clave made their move they were not prepared for the counter-attack they were met with. The fight breaks out and together they hold the clave back.
Following the shocking discovery that another woman shared her face both Ever Altair and Isabelle Cresswell were reeling from the revelation. The night would come with one more unexpected twist. Ever had escaped to a bathroom taking a moment to try and work through what had just happened, she wasnât alone there though, Nyx Brraganza and Phoebe Stones also happened to be in the bathroom when a man entered, an automatic red flag for the three women. Â While cool on the exterior they were on high alert and when the man lunged for Ever the other two women were quick to jump in and help fight the man back. Trapping him in a stall they exit the bathroom trying to bar the door shut when Stefan Reyes would come across them ready to the warn them of the danger theyâve already clearly discovered. Stefan thinking Ever is Isabelle tells her what Isaac had mentioned and Ever explains that sheâs not Isabelle.
Despite the confusion, they quickly realize they need to set that aside because the danger is still very real, the man in the bathroom still trying to escape and quickly more Clave members approach. The four take off in the other direction looking for Isabelle. They come across Thomas Scheffer who had just seen Isabelle wandering into the planetarium. Sensing the urgency and also the fact that they were now being followed by a very angry group of people, Thomas joins the group as they hurry into the planetarium just in time to see a few people heading inside. Hiding out of sight they devise a plan.
Isabelle Cresswellâs head was spinning, someone was running around with her face. As she made her way back to the ball she got the feeling like someone was following her. Seeing the planetarium doors up ahead she ducks inside hoping to have lost whoever it was. When she enters she finds that she is not alone, Laura Wilde sat staring up at the domed ceiling. Isabelle expressed her concerns of what she thought was happening and the girls grew paranoid when the doors open both of them screamed but it was only Lindy Cabrera. This caused them both to start laughing at how ridiculous they were and they explain to Lindy their reaction and for a moment they have a nice moment finding their jumpiness amusing.
All of that would take another turn though when suddenly the door opened once more except this time a handful of unfamiliar faces began coming into the room and they looked threatening. Panic set in and Issy and Lindy tell Laura to make a break for it to the doors on the other end while Lindy and Issy start throwing things at the Clave members. One man grabs Issy and Lindy smashes a chair over their head just in time for Ivan Blahnik to pull open to other sets of doors pulling Laura out and away from the group who rush for the door. It quickly closes behind them leaving Issy and Lindy the chance to rush out the other doors with the help of Stefan and Thomas. The group barricades the doors to keep the Clave members trapped inside while Phoebe goes off to find an original to deal with it.
Meanwhile back in the main room Nathaniel Greyson stood side by side with his brother Dominik Greyson, the brothers fighting back the Clave. Theyâve been successful and the numbers of their enemies thin and the Greyson men are certain they have secured a victory. Letting their guard down for only a moment they do not see the man theyâd knocked out coming too, they donât see him reaching for the gun. The shot rings through the room and an eery silence falls across the crowd as everyone turns to look to see the devastation that noise could bring. Panic crosses Nateâs face when he hears the sound of a body collapsing behind him and he turns to see Dominik, standing between him and the Clave member, his suit jacket wet with blood. Noah Blackwell snaps the Clave members neck as Nate falls to the ground beside his brother, pulling him into his arms and watching slowly as the life slips from his body.
Dominik Greyson was dead.
Emma Sawyer comes running in, her beautiful dress covered in blood as she finds the Blackwells trying to gather themselves after the fight. Tearfully she tells them that Jonathan never returned with the car to take Madge to the hospital and that in that time Madge had died. Â Heartbreak and panic set in, Noah and Joslyn hurrying to find Jonathan as Emma took Maggie and Lukas to Madge.
Madge Knight was dead.
Jonathan Knight was missing.
Astrid Zhen comes upon Jonathan first. He lays beaten and bruised in the parking lot not five feet from his car. Another man clearly knocked out a foot from him must have been engaged in some kind of fight with the other man. Sheâd heard this manâs sister call Noah, Uncle. She knew he was of importance in some way to the Blackwellâs. It would be crazy for the idea to not cross her mind. Leverage would be nice to have. Pippa Percy comes running out into the night looking frantically for Jonathan when she comes upon them. Pushing past Astrid she checks for a pulse. Relieved to hear him breathing. When she turns to Astrid she finds her gone but coming out of the building she sees Theresa Rutherford making her leave she called out her and the two women struggled to carry Jonathan inside until Joslyn and Noah appeared to help them.
Back inside the chaos began to quiet as the reality of the night began to set in. Theyâd captured a good majority of the Clave who had come to attack them and with the cell reception restored they were able to start making arrangements to get the injured to the hospital and start moving the Clave to the prison. It had been a night of great loss. Several dead, an original and the descendant of another original lost to this world. There would be no do-overs this time. Theyâd won this time, saved thousands but at what cost?
When morning comes they find their abilities back to normal and that death is still a very final thing.Â
They also find that what chaos breeds as Cassie Cresswell shakes awake one Oliver Hastings, who awakes not a wolf but hybrid. When morning came the stress had forced Cassie to turn and sheâd bitten Oliver by accident who was slowly bleeding out with her blood in his system. After attacking the Clave members still hunting her she returns in her human form to find a lifeless looking Oliver. Shaking him until suddenly heâs jolting back to life. The two find there was going to be a great deal to handle now that not just two hybrids roamed this world. Â

Warning: Maximum fluff (I teared up)
A/N: Children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome are slower to develop mentally and physically. On the growth spectrum, theyâre 3 years old mentally in 5 year old bodies.
Oftentimes, in foster care homes, they are bullied by staff and other children. This happened to Haylee and Kaylee. Unable to express their feelings, adults would say mean things or children shunned them.
****************************************************************************
Language translation: Dahyee---Dolly; Tapinâmerita--Captain America; Iwoman--Ironman; Yike--Like; Ote dote--Okey dokey; Toopid--Stupid; Ugwey--Ugly; Dats--Thatâs; Hayee/Tayee; Haylee/Kaylee
****************************************************************************
James Buchanan and Y/N Y/M/N Barnes knows all too well living as Hydraâs puppets. Having your strings pulled for their sinister plans, morphing from human to a cold blooded assassin without feelings. Y/N fared a little better. She wasnât controlled by words. Hydra would inject her with whatever the mad scientists wanted tested.
In return, Y/N experienced an adverse reaction. Nausea, headaches, increased physical stamina. So, Hydra decided to use the duo as puppets to further their twisted agenda. No one knew the body count, you can assure the number exceeded 50. For the record, Bucky DID NOT kill JFK!! Â
Bucky and Y/N enjoyed married life, working with the Avengers, eradicating Hydra. The missing puzzle piece; children. Bucky unwillingly had a vasectomy; Y/N sterilized.
Spending time with Clint and Lauraâs kids filled a miniscule part of the ache. Bucky and Y/N longed for the pitter patter of little feet running to their waiting arms.
Standing in the way of Bucky and Y/Nâs happily ever after, a sullen judge by the name of Augustus Ingram. Â Â
Pacing the floor, Bucky played the âwhat ifâ game. âWhat if he doesnât giveâum to us? I couldnât take it doll.â
âJames, if itâs meant to be, Haylee and Kaylee will be here tomorrow night. Now, come to bed.â
VERDICT
9:00--The bailiff escorted Bucky and Y/N in Judge Ingramâs chambers.
Haylee and Kaylee, wearing cute blue dresses, white socks, black dress shoes, two pigtails adorned with blue and white ribbons, chatted with Judge Ingram, licking a lollipop. âHewoe. Wook. Tandy!!â
Bucky teased Kaylee. âYou didnât save a lollipop for me? Iâm gonna cry.â Kaylee laughed. âSowy. Man, daddy yike tandy.â âAll my candyâs gone.â âNo tandy daddy.â
âMr. and Mrs. Barnes, please have a  seat. Iâve presided over numerous adoption hearings for 20 years. NEVER have I heard anything so heinous as what happened to you. After that day, I went home, hugged my kids, and cried. It takes despicable, I dare not call them humans, evil to inflict such pain. Sitting here chatting with Haylee and Kaylee, theyâre sweet, smart, amazing little girls, not responsible for the hand theyâve been dealt. Itâs come to my attention, they were bullied. Kids didnât understand why Haylee and Kaylee talked the way they did. So, the twins withdrew, only playing with each other. Now, they have a mother and father who will love them unconditionally.â
Tears fell from Y/Nâs eyes. Bucky rubbed the back of his neck in disbelief. âYour Honor, please donât tease us.â
âMr. Barnes, I wouldnât dare. With great pleasure, say hello to Haylee Marie and Kaylee Mariah Barnes.â
Excited, Haylee and Kaylee stood beside Judge Ingram, kissing his wet cheek. âTank you. We dot mommy and daddy. Wuv you. Bye bye.â
Bucky tried hard to keep his composure; didnât work. Haylee crawled in his lap. âDone cwy daddy. It awwight. We doe pway dahyee?â
Y/N tickled Kayleeâs stomach. She twisted and turned filling the room with laughter. âYes munchkin. Weâll play with dolly all day if you want.â
Haylee slid from Buckyâs lap, pulling his massive hand. âWetâs doe pway dahyee daddy.â
Y/N mouthed âthank you.â Judge Ingram nodded. âTake care of those angels.â
Steve, Nat, Wanda, and Sam waited with bated breath. Tony fidgeted in his seat.
As the doors slowly opened, Bucky held Haylee and Kaylee in his arms, followed by Y/N.
Thunderous applause erupted!!! Steve congratulated the elated couple. âWow, youâre parents!â
Tony wiped his eyes. âMr. and Mrs. Frosty and their little ice cubes.â Pepper elbowed his side. âOw.â âBehave!â
Haylee and Kaylee couldnât believe their eyes. Captain America and Ironman in the flesh!
âMommy wookie. Tapinâmerita and Iwoman!!! Daddy wookie, wookie!!!!â
Steveâs chest puffed; Tonyâs head ballooned larger than normal. âHello tiny fans. Iâm Tony.â
âHewoe. I Hayee, dat Tayee. You Iwoman?â âWhy yes I am.â
âOte dote. Bye bye.â âI donât know whether to be happy or offended.â
Nat chided. âDonât take it personal Tony. You have that effect on every woman.â
Steve greeted his goddaughters. âHi darlings.â âYou Tapinâmerita?â âYep. Whatâs your name?â
âTayee and Hayee. Dat mommy and daddy.â âNice to meet you Haylee nâ Kaylee.â
âUh huh. Bye bye.â âWhatâcha say now Ice Pop?â
Pepper smiled. âHello Kaylee and Haylee.â âHewoe pwetty yaydee.â
Wanda and Nat introduced themselves. âIâm Wanda and thatâs Nat.â
Haylee and Kayleeâs lips quivered. âMommy, we tainât shay.â
Y/N suggested, âCan you say Te Te?â
âYesch. Hewoe Te Te!!!â Clapping, Bucky and Y/N praised their daughters. âGood job!â
WELCOME HOME
Bucky and Y/N returned to their suite at the compound. Haylee and Kaylee stood in place,
spellbound. âBabies, this is your home for now.â Kaylee hopped on the sofa. âPwetty mommy.â
Haylee tipped in the bedroom, taking in the view. âWook daddy.â On the bed was a large box, wrapped in pink. Bucky opened the top, shaking his head.
âSorry, Mr. and Mrs. Winter Breeze. Frozen and I are the cool uncles.â
Signed, Tony and Capsicle.
In the box, Captain America and Ironman pajamas. âDoll, Tony struck again.â Y/N shook her head, âThose two will never quit.â
PARTY TIME
Balloons, party hats, bubbles, streamers, horns, food, dessert, stuffed animals adorned a table.
Nat, Wanda, Pepper, Sam, Steve and Tony cheered. Haylee and Kaylee joined in. Steve tried to dance to no avail. Tony recorded the precious moments for Bucky and Y/N.
Pepper consulted a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome nutritionist, Dr. Amelia Norton. âMr. and Mrs. Barnes, itâs a pleasure to meet you.â âSame here Dr. Norton.â
âYour daughterâs diet is fairly simple. Purchase only organic fruits, vegetables. Beware of food containing alcohol. If possible, homemade breads, pastries, yogurt and granola. I brought a cookbook thatâs easy to follow.â
âWhat about a speech therapist?â
âMr. Barnes, Haylee and Kaylee donât need a speech therapist.â âWHAT??â
Tony joined the conversation. âSorry did I hear you correctly?â Pepper vetted several speech therapists for the twins.
âYes Mr. Stark. Personalized talking books, animal sounds, alphabets, flash cards, crayon, construction paper and patience are just what any doctor would order.â
âWhat about social interaction and potty training?â
Nodding towards the girls, âLook at them. Eating, laughing, running around. Potting training? Since weâve been here, Ms. Maximoff has taken Haylee and Kaylee to the bathroom twice.â
Everything clicked. Instead of spending time with the girls, they were pushed to the back burner at the foster home.
âThank you Dr. Norton.â âIt was my pleasure. Good night.â Pepper walked her to the elevator.
âGuys, this feels like a dream. Gazing into Haylee and Kayleeâs eyes, our hearts melt. Marrying James filled an empty space in my life. Adopting our sweet peas completed the puzzle. We love each one of you.â
âDoll, the girls are gettinâ sleepy. Time for bed.â
âYouâre right. Sweetheart, say âgoodnight.â
Yawning, Haylee waved, âNigh nigh. Wuv you.â âTayee wuv you. Bye bye.â
Everyone returned the sentiment. âGoodnight ladybugs.
Tucking Haylee and Kaylee in, Bucky and Y/N stood next to the bed.
âDoll, mâdreaming right?â
âNo Mr. Barnes. Haylee Marie and Kaylee Mariah Barnes are here, with their parents, aunts, and uncles.â
âMrs. Barnes, I love ya.â âMr. Barnes, I love you too.â
Y/N climbed  under the covers; Bucky stretched out in his lounge chair, wrapped in a blanket.
Yes, the missing pieces of the puzzle in the form of gray eyes and brunette hair, sucking their thumbs, clutching Care Bears.

Lisi Harrisonâs Monster High, A Book review.
Warning: this review contains major spoilers.
Where do I begin.
Monster High the book came out in 2010 with the franchise, but despite that I havenât seen a review of it that was that much more in depth than whether it was appropriate for children, so why not Iâll do it. I might as well get something out of this experience.
The book series is interesting to me because it says a lot about Monster Highâs early days; a lot of character concepts that wouldnât show up in the main franchise until much later are here, as well as working names and early version of each characterâs concept. After all Harrison had to get it from somewhere.
It also says a lot about how Mattel had NO idea what age bracket to whom to market this. Sure, obviously they wanted kids, hence a tie in cartoon, but I think they were afraid younger ones wouldnât be interested and wanted to make sure they had something for the young teen audience as well. The result is a book that doesnât have a good appeal for any audience except curious, hard core MH fans.
The book follows the stories of Melody Carver and Frankie Stein, each chapter changing point of view as the story progresses. If youâre interested enough in MH to read this, you know who Frankie is, but to describe Melody, sheâs basically every self insert character youâve ever come across in a fanfic. Except unlike with fanfic, which is just a fun hobby, Harrison is supposed to be a professional author and got paid to do this.
Melodyâs story follows how sheâs about to be a new student at Merston High, moving from California to New Salem, Oregon. She talks about how she doesnât look like her parents, and when she was younger she used to be an excellent singer. Along with that we learn how prior to moving, she had had a rather large, âbeak likeâ nose she had her plastic surgeon father fix for her. However it didnât fix her insecurities and she canât seem to enjoy her new appearance; constantly second guessing if anyone who suddenly took interest in her was only there for her new appearance.
The way Iâm writing about that fact right now makes it sound way more logical than the book does. In the book it sounds like when her wealthy surgeon dad gave her the new nose she wanted, and she didnât have a reason to be a loner special snowflake anymore she had to find a new reason to distance herself from people.
She also gave up singing, the book claiming her asthma problems got so bad it became difficult, but sheâs so whiny about it, it almost comes off like she gave up when it got too hard. Later in the book her sister even accuses her as having just given up on it because it wouldâve actually made her a little interesting to have a hobby.
âŚOkay I might have paraphrased that. My point is, this plot point doesnât really become relevant till book three to my understanding anyway so itâs whatever. Â
As earlier referenced, she has a sister named Candace, who is supposed to be more confident, popular, fun, and having more personalty than Melody. She also serves as something of a voice of reason for Melody when sheâs not being annoying or cringy. But sheâs mostly annoying. Speaking of her, weâre told Melodyâs never had any friends butâŚher sister doesnât count? I know a sister isnât exactly the same, but it should lay some frame work for how these things work.Â
We find the two settling into their rooms when they spy their next door neighbor, and Melody sees a shirtless Jackson Jekyll out of her window watering the plants.
Melody and her sister thoroughly oggle him as he does this, Candace only writing him off when he turns and she decides heâs a bit too ânerdyâ for her tastes. It is at this point I REALLY felt like I was reading a fanfic because this is so on the nose for many self-insert stories Iâve read.
Iâm not kidding when I say some parts of this book made me wonder if the author was a little attracted to him herself and living through her creation. Thereâs just such a subtle âŚskeeviness to the scene.
Later in the day the two sisters decide to walk around the neighborhood; Candace yelling things at hot guys she sees.
Finally they get near the park where they run into Jackson, who for his part comes off like he wanted to be alone, as he was trying to draw when he as interrupted by the girls. Despite this, and despite Candaceâs awful attempt to make âcurdyâ (supposed to be a combo of cute/nerdy but mostly making me think of spoiled milk) a word; he seems to warm up to an awkward Melody during the conversation and they exchange numbers.
At school we find out he never called her however, and despite her looking canât seem to find him in the cafeteria. Of course with the way she makes fun of the kids with allergies, and refers to one kid âhorse-faceâ; Iâd say not calling her was dodging a bullet. For someone who claims to have been bullied so much youâd think sheâd be a little less prone to doing the same to others.
Alas, Jackson does meet up with her long enough to explain he was sick.
Their time together doesnât last long however, as Melody and Cleo DeNile knock into each other soon after. Cleoâs grapes fall off her tray, and she demands Melody give up hers, but she refuses. In revenge, Cleo kisses Jackson, which turns him into Holt, or should I say âDJâ, and causes him to leave with her.
âŚI had to take a moment at the image of Cleo kissing Jackson. It felt so wrong. The whole scene feels so surreal and is paced really badly.
It does however make a good opening to talk about how my favorite characters are handled in this.
Now, I do appreciate Jackson getting to be a main character in something, but heâs pretty much regulated to love interest.
Heâs not too different from the Jackson of the other continuities to be fair, aside from him being described as artistic as Iâve mentioned, which is usually reserved for Holt. On the subject of Holt, heâs only here in spirit as instead we get âDJâ, who, while admittedly having a similar personality to Holt, is not a blue fire elemental. In fact he looks exactly like Jackson sans glasses, andâŚ.why is he a monster again?
Now, I donât know, maybe this was the working concept Lisi was given and she had to run with it. Though I have trouble believing that, I mean the name sure, but Holtâs doll came out around 6 months, a year at most after this book, and these ghouls spend years in development, that says to me they wouldâve known they wanted them to be two dolls with two different looks far enough in advance to let Lisi Harrison know.
However, it does open a very big shortcut for the author, so Iâm suspicious this was her invention. Thing is, aside from not following the Robert Louis Stevenson novel, it takes away what makes him a monster.
The way heâs written here just makes him seem like a young man with DID whoâs personality shifts are triggered when he gets too hot, and implying people with DID are monsters is not a good thing to say the very least. Â
The worst bit is, if she didnât want Holt to be visibly monstrous he couldâve, like the original novel, looked human still, but with his own features. It wouldâve been a fair compromise.
Anyway, Melodyâs dislike of Cleo. It is this dislike that leads her to become friends with a girl named Bekka and her minion Haylee. Bekka isâŚan odd one. Sheâs that character whoâs so obviously gonna be the villain youâre surprised she doesnât have devil horns and a twirly mustache. Sheâs obsessed with her boyfriend Brent to the point itâs unhealthy. She makes it the biggest rule of the friendship contact she makes Melody sign.
Oh yes, thereâs a contract in this. What is it with bad books an contracts, first 50 Shades now this. Wait, or did this come first? Whatever the case, weâre supposed to believe Melody is so inexperienced with people she doesnât find this weird. This is where my comment about her sister comes up; whoâs stated to have had lots of friends. Does Melody think her sister makes people sign contracts? Does she think Candace signs contracts?
Itâs such a bizarre thing. I had to stop reading for a moment to ponder what I was doing with my life. I canât even make fun of it because itâs already such a joke. Haylee even notarizes it, does Bekka expect this to be legally binding? Â
Sigh.
The first week of their friendship goes decently enough however, and we discover âJacksonâsâ fling with Cleo had ended now that Deuce Gorgon has returned. Cleo mocks Melody that she can âhave the nerd back nowâ as Melody sees Jackson coming down the hall, and to get back at both in one go kisses Deuce in front of everyone.
Cleo, though obviously hurt with tears in her eyes as Deuce kisses back semi eagerly, manages to not react too much, but Jackson, not knowing what was going on, destroys what what he was carrying. It turns out to be a gift for Melody, who now feels terrible.
There is so much wrong with all that. I feel so offended on Deuceâs behalf at this portrayal, and this scene is written so unnaturally awkward. And Melody apparently still likes Jackson? Why? As far as sheâs knows all heâs been is a jerk to her? Ugh.
Later that night finds Melody moping around as she decides to stay home from a family outing (camping in the backyard) so she can stalk/be a peeping tom to Jackson. No really, heâs her neighbor and her sisters window can see into his room; so she literally grabs a bowl of popcorn with plans to spy all night.
This isâŚ.really creepy. Melodyâs not the most likable to begin with, and this does not make me want to root for her.
She doesnât get far with that as Jackson shows up, let in by her parents. They talk, Melody seeming happy she made him jealous kissing Deuce, but calling him out of making out with Cleo all week (a bit hypocritical there). Except he doesnât remember any of what sheâs talking about, and explains he has blackouts. This explanation seems to be enough for her to forgive him, and she questions nothing further.
They flirt a while until her insecurities come back up, and she makes him look at a picture her old nose as a test; except he canât tell tell much difference and thinks she looks pretty both ways. She decides she wants to kiss him then, but theyâre interrupted when Melodyâs mom yells that she saw a wolf.
They hang out again later with Bekka and Haylee, and Bekka complains about Frankie supposedly flirting with Brett, who finally shows up with Heath Burns, who is not related to Jackson in this universe.
Theyâre apparently filming a monster movie, but Jackson gets too hot and leaves to go inside. Melody follows and this leads to their first kiss.
Unfortunately for Melody, this turns him into DJ, who is very confused and mistakes the situation for quick hook up. His strange and rude behavior leads her to kick him out.
It also is what makes her decide to ask Deuce to the dance instead when she hears Cleo isnât going, to which he agrees. A clueless Jackson later comes by to ask her, but sheâs still understandably pretty mad from before. They go back and forth until he turns into DJ again, who finally explains to her who he is and vaguely mentions the whole Jekyll/Hyde thing.
Melody records his transformation on her phone and shows it to Jackson when he comes back, which causes him to rush off.
She manages to find him, and it turns out he went to confront his mother about it. Here we get some exposition about great grandpa Henryâs potion, how the trait got ingrained into his DNA, how the split personality drove Jacksonâs father insane (as in the book it comes from his side instead of his motherâs, while she is only a human, hence no fire elemental traits), the fact Jacksonâs father is in a mental hospital, and how Jacksonâs transformations only started recently.
Itâs this last bit I have to admit is probably better than the way the main universe went about things. Sorry, but Jackson not knowing he had a second personality until teenager-hood when itâs been happening from birth makes no sense.
After this is the dance, but Iâll get back to that, now letâs switch to Frankieâs half of this book.
I like Frankie here. Sort of, sometimes she gets a little too into the teen girl stereotypes, but overall sheâs not actually written too far off from how Frankie was written it the early days of the show. Thatâs kind of a problem here tho, because the world sheâs been placed in doesnât match her.
Many of the qualities the show celebrated about her, here mostly come back to bite her, to the point she feels like being herself is a terrible thing. I mostly feel sad for her the whole book as I end up thinking about the show and how happy she is in that world. It gets bad enough that it was all I could remember about her parts after my initial read. I suppose itâs intentional by the author that weâre to feel bad for her, but it gets overdone at times. Maybe Iâm just too much of a softie though.
Her story opens up with an admittedly nice prologue from her point of view about how she came to life; it reminds me of her SDCC diary in that way. Sheâs pretty endearing.
Her part of this story then skips forward to her waiting to recharge while listening to music, while Lisi Harrison tries to fit in as many brand names and celebrities as she can. Seriously, you cut out all the namedropping in the first two pages of this chapter and thereâd be nothing there.
Not that the whole book hadnât already been doing that, but my god is it annoying. Not to mention dates the book terribly.
Her dad comes by her room to have a talk to her, and Frankie at first worries sheâs perhaps spent too much in redecorating her room considering all those mentioned brand names, but instead they explain that summerâs coming to a close.
This really doesnât mean much to Frankie, but they explain they work at a local university and school with be starting again soon. Meaning they wonât  be able to stay home with her. After some exposition about what normies are and why she isnât one, they tell her theyâre sending her to a school, which she becomes very excited about when she realizes it means meeting kids her own age.
Of course, itâs not that simple as they present her with the outfit the expect her to wear for her first day: a wool pantsuit and stage makeup. They attempt to explain to her that sheâs a RAD, or Regular Attribute Dodger, or a monster as theyâre known by normies.
Now the concept of monsters being real and living hidden in modern society is not a bad one. Probably why the reboot decided to use it. Itâs just, as this scene goes on weâre we are given some âŚodd world building.
Like the reason humans hate monsters isâŚ.old monster movies. Okay, I understand media is a powerful thing, and it can completely shape peopleâs opinions about minorities, but usually media is a symptom of the problem, not the cause.
Not to mention did this really even need that explanation? You couldâve just went with the usual, human paranoia about vampires killing them for blood, being afraid of monsterâs powers, ect; the media thing is a fine shout out to the classic movies, but being the sole cause of humanâs turn against them?
Also, how would there be people who donât believe monsters are real if this happened that recently? The film industry is not that old, people would know monsters exist if they apparently have them on film.
Frankie too finds her questioning this new world, as sheâs not particularly thrilled about the idea of hiding her skin or wearing wool, and canât wrap her head around the idea she needs to hide who she is.Â
So when the day comes she decides shes going to ignore her parents and wear the outfit of her choosing with no stage make up to hide the green. Of course her parents donât approve, while Frankie argues that if other people donât like her for who she is, thatâs their problem not hers (which isnât bad advice).
Still, they must press her to change as itâs dangerous, but she only goes as far as to cover her seams. Finally, her parents seem to relent and take her to school. Going outside for the first time is amazing to Frankie, and sheâs very excited; though she admits she doesnât know where sheâs going or what sheâs doing.Â
Of course the inevitable happens, she runs into another teen and they donât react well to the sight of a girl with green skin. Frankieâs parents suddenly reappear and get her back into the car before any authority can arrive to see them.
Her father admits he was just trying to teach her a lesson that perhaps went too far. Frankie is in tears now, and some what bitterly agrees to wear to the make up and suit.
I have one major issue with this scene, and itâs when itâs revealed this is not her school, and in fact her school hasnât started yet. This was all planned by her parents. So, her parents, suspecting she wouldnât understand the danger, decided trying to scar her for life and nearly expose them in the process was better than trying to talk her through it some more? Like the way itâs written makes it seem like they only talked about it the once, and didnât even go that in depth at how risky things are.
Like if this was a genuine last resort or something I could understand, but it feels more like a cop out on their part. Sheâs barely two weeks old, of course sheâs not going to get it after one conversation when sheâs never even been outside! And again, this was a huge risk to take for their whole secret society; I doubt other RADs would have approved.
Frankie now fearfully starts school for real, simply hoping no one notices her. Of course that doesnât happen, as she quickly gets the attention of DJ Hyde, much to her annoyance. She zaps him by accident and he gives her the nick name âFirecrackerâ.
Thatâs right about when Draculaura aka âLalaâ makes her first appearance with Lagoona or âBlueâ, who tries to help Lala with her makeup (as she wants to look good in front of DJ, which I admit being reminded of that old plot made me a little nostalgic for early MH) and asks the heavily made up Frankie if sheâd be alright with loaning them some eyeliner.
For the rest of class Frankie tries to ignore DJ and focus more on the boy she actually has a crush on, Brett. She likes him because he likes monsters, and seeing as heâs wearing a Frankenstein t-shirt, takes it as a sign he wouldnât mind that sheâs his granddaughter. Not to mention that now she knows thereâs a girl who likes DJ, wouldnât want to take him from her (an attitude youâll find doesnât last).
Also during class she becomes worried that Melody is onto her, not realizing the girl is really just another girl who wants to boy currently trying to get her attention.
After class Blue and Lala befriend her and invite her to go to the spa with them that weekend, to which she agrees.
Frankie heads off that weekend, meeting Cleo and Claudine (not âClawdeenâ), who donât seem as keen on her as Blue and Lala after she makes an innocently insensitive comment. We find out Lala was a bit mad at Cleo for making out with DJ, but Cleo assures her it was just to make Melody mad, as DJ knows sheâs taken. Speaking of Deuce, Cleoâs very upset over his kiss with Melody, and at this Ula decides to forgive her as sheâs not into DJ anymore anyway (rendering that part of the plot completely pointless).Â
Finally they get there, and Frankie starts to feel more included as the girls explain how to go through the spa to her, and she talks about her crush on Brett. The girls make jokes about how difficult itâs gonna be to steal him from the infinitely jealous Bekka, and no one tells her not to chase a boy who is already taken. Considering Cleo was just recently upset at feeling cheated on, this feels hypocritical.
All the ghouls finally part to get their various treatments, each one hinting at their monster type.Â
Frankie decides on trying the tanning beds on the advice it reduces the appearance of scars. While there she relaxes, but gets distracted enough by a fantasy she accidentally sparks and blows a fuse.
She absolutely panics, making things worse, until smoke starts emitting form her seams. In all the confusion she manages to get dressed and runs out of there terrified. Sheâs crushed that she ruined everything, ignores her new friends calls, and walks home full of anxiety over how her parents will react. She finally breaks down crying when a passing car hits her with water.
She makes it home deciding not to tell her parents what happened, and they buy her fake story, getting her dried off.
Early the next morning her and her parents get called to a new emergency meeting of the local underground monster community. Not called for the spa incident (locals blamed it on the storm), but Frankie being sighted earlier.
At the meeting, Frankie learns which members of her town are RADs, and in turn tell the others as well. Along with their real names, monster types, thereâs even some history on what parts of town were built by monsters.
Feeling safe to do so, Frankie fesses up to the power outage she caused, and to her relief they seem pretty understanding. All except Claudine, who wasnât able to get her hair waxed and got tagged by PETA for âwearing furâ.
They all talk openly of their monster problems until Mrs. J (or Mrs. Jekyll) arrives to start the meeting sans her son. She warns them to be careful around normies, and Cleo canât resist a jab in Deuceâs direction over Melody. Deuce apologizes, implying heâs already done this, and Cleo seems to be in the process of forgiving him, or at least content knowing he and Melody donât actually want each other.
Mrs. J continues the meeting announcing the Merston High has chosen a monster theme for an upcoming school dance. Much of the crowd seems offended at that, but Frankie speaks up to say she finds the idea rather flattering, and maybe even a sign of a change in attitude.
She goes even further as to suggest they all use it as an opportunity to be able to go out in public with out disguises for a change. The other kids seem to like the idea in theory, but when put to a vote only Frankie and Billy Phadin (to Frankieâs gratitude) are in favor.
Sheâs bummed out at how afraid everyone is to try anything, and doesnât join in saying the RADs slogan âHide with Prideâ.
Itâs after this chapter we get a chapter from the point of view of Ghoulia which, while not unwelcome, feels out of nowhere. Itâs also much more in line with the show, as she tries to talk her parents into letting her go to NekroCon so she can try and get her Deadfast No. 1.
I love this chapter, but the sudden references to the main-verse are very out of place in everything Harrisonâs built up so far. Still, itâs Ghouliaâs first appearance so I canât complain.
Back at school Frankie is amazed at how well Mrs. J manages to seem impartial, and how the only one who seems to have any visible monster pride is Brett.
Brett brings up monsters, Frankie joining in to the teacherâs dismay, but itâs all interrupted by a âmonster drillâ (which involves using your chair as a shield in a very silly manor).
Brett shows interest in Frankie as she seems to like monsters as well, which encourages her. This goes even further when school announcements remind everyone about the dance, and Bret tells everyone heâs going as Frankensteinâs monster. Bekka chimes in sheâs going as the bride to match, and Frankie wishes she could say theyâre both going as her grandparents and the reals brideâs dress is at her house.
Mrs. J however was not amused by all the monster talk, and privately reminds Frankie she has to be discreet. However Frankie feels monster kind are never going to get anywhere if they donât actually make any attempts to try, and the warning is lost on her.Â
This becomes very apparent to her parents at home as Frankie gets more and more frustrated, to the point she bitterly asks her parents why they didnât just make her look human if she has to pretend to be one anyway.
âŚWhich is actually a good point. They go on about how they didnât because theyâre proud of who they are and she should be too. That hiding is just for safety, but seriously if sheâs going to have to hide her entire life they couldâve spared her a lot of agony to just make her look more human to begin with. I get what the author was going for but still.
The author couldâve just explained they didnât have that ability instead, which mightâve been more in line with the metaphor. Â
The argument leads to them banning her from the dance entirely, and she admits her father might be right not to trust her, as she plans to go anyway.
Now to her credit, she does try to earn their permission by behaving, but it doesnât sway them so it goes to plan B. She gets the other ghouls to join in with her (theyâd been boycotting it originally), and using her bare skin and grandmotherâs wedding dress as a costume arrives at the dance. Â
Meanwhile, Melody is also at the dance, lamenting Jackson has been avoiding her lately. Sheâs resisted the temptation to talk to anyone else about what she knows, and tried to distract herself with the event.
It doesnât really work, and she runs into Jackson at the punch bowl, dressed as Igor. ....Then we get this joke:
âWhat are you doing here?â Melody asked, relived.
âI thought you might wanna hump?â He pointed to the pillow stuffed up under the back of his sweater like a hunchback.
âŚWhat the heck did I just read. Did this book really need a bad sex joke? Itâs so awkward even Melody starts to just walk away.
Yet, somehow this leads to them talking things out and making up. Then we cut back to the monster side of things:
Frankie runs into the similarly dressed Bekka who tries to insult her, and Billy gets another cameo. Sheâs thrilled with the positive attention her âcostumeâ is getting, particularly when she gets it from Brett.
Their talking leads to a kiss that ends with Frankieâs head popping off and Brett fainting.
Screams and confusion take over, but Billy helps her escape as the monsters make a run for it to get back home.
Meanwhile at the dance, as all the monsters are escaping, Jackson feels a transformation coming on and tries in vain to get Melody to leave. Melody however is distracted by an angry Bekka who wants vengeance against Frankie for kissing her boyfriend, demanding that Melody help her get it.
She canât do both, and spends too much time trying to figure out what side to be on. Finally DJ appears and makes her decision for her, as he decides he wants to find where Firecracker is.
Bekka heads out too, leaving Melody with the threat of turning against her if she doesnât help soon. Going off to stir up monster paranoia as best she can, and wanting to make sure to get an angry mob going so Frankie is found.
Melody still canât seem to make up her mind on what to do, and asks her sister in vague terms what she thinks. Candace tells her she has to pick the side she thinks is right and not be a coward about it like she usually is.
Frankie wakes up at home and over hears the RAD parents having an angry, scared conversation over whatâs going to happen, blaming Frankieâs parents for not controlling her behavior better. More than that, they talk about their fears of what will happen to their own children, laying more blame on Frankie for all that might happen to the point of demanding the Steins leave town. Frankieâs father kicks them out after that, but soon as their gone he and his wife canât deny their own worries.
Frankie feels crushed under the weight of her guilt and lays on her bed crying. It gets bad enough she begins to wish either that she had never been made, or wouldnât wake up next time she sleeps.
She does wake up after drifting off however, to find DJ having snuck in her room to her confusion (which is a bit of creeper move on his part). He seems concerned enough however, so she tells him about her problems. Telling him how stupid and reckless she feels, and how she ruined everyoneâ lives.
DJ on the other hand thinks she did everyone a favor, and that RAD society needs someone like her around because they werenât getting anywhere. He tells her he thinks sheâs absolutely amazing, that she shouldnât give up, and that he likes her. Likes the fact she goes for what she wants.
This scene is honestly adorable and so far the best scene out of the book. They way he builds her up, promises to help her and be there for her, and while obvious he has a crush, doesnât pressure her about returning the feelings and just wants to see her be happy.
They get interrupted however, and by the time itâs safe again DJ has been replaced with Jackson; who doesnât know who she is or where he is, and is looking for Melody. She upset and confused by his departure.
Melody shows up at the Jekyll residence and tells Mrs. J that she knows, but promises to be their secret keeper. She also plans to help find Jackson.
This is nearly ruined as after leaving she runs into Bekka and Haylee. Bekka reveals she found the recording of Jacksonâs transformation on her phone and black mails her with it.
She gives Melody two days to find and hand over Frankie or sheâll show it to the police.
This villainous reveal is so over the top too, she actually makes Melody sign another agreement and pulls an egg timer out of her purse as she threatens her about the time limit. Itâs hilarious.
Melodyâs left there terrified sheâs just messed things up big time when Jackson finds her.
She explains what happened, and he reveals he knows where Frankie is, but refuses to give her up to save himself. Not even for his own sake, but he knows DJ likes her. DJ would want her safe and he canât betray his other half like that.
Melody thinks itâs very noble, but tricks him so heâll turn into DJ, who leads her to Frankie.
Frankie is understandably not pleased to see her, and the scene gets a bit meta in the sense DJ and Frankie reflect my own feelings about Melody to an extent.
They do talk it out of course, Melody explains the Jekyll/Hyde thing to Frankie, and convinces Frankie that sheâs just here to be an ally. Though I will say Melody saying she can relate to Frankie because she got teased for her big nose; while Frankie has to fear her family and friends getting killed because sheâd undead makes Melodork come off very âŚWhite.
Then the book just kinda stops after that. I know it was meant to have sequels, but thereâs no real resolution to anything. Itâs just:
âWe need a plan to fix this.â âI agreeâ
The End.
Over all thoughts: one of the reason this review got so in depth is because, as I wrote the first draft I realized I couldnât remember a lot of the book. As I found my self skimming the book, I kept finding whole scenes I had no memory of at all (which Iâd end up throwing in). Itâs super forgettable once you put it down, and the only things that make it memorable are the things that make it annoying.
Like the name dropping, Iâve talked about it before, but oh god the name dropping. On top of every characterâs outfit having to be described in great detail it made me feel like I was reading a clothing catalog.
All the human OCs are poorly written, Bekkaâs ridiculous and so over the top itâs hard to take her seriously, Haylee just exists to follow Bekka around, Brettâs a cheater (yeah, Iâd rather have Frankie than Bekka too but he couldâve just broken up with her first), Candace is spoiled, and Melody is whiny and annoying.
Worse, this book is such a waste of what was a really cool concept, a more mature version of the MH-verse. Thereâs so many hints in here too of the better book we couldâve received, like Frankieâs prologue. Would it have been a better book if Lisi had just stuck to the monster characters? That I canât say, as the ghouls characterization havenât been safe from bad writing either, but none were as bad as any of the humans. Â
On the positive side, I can see why some people do like this book...sort of. It does try very hard to build itâs universe, and while some of it fails, some is actually pretty interesting. It can even be entertaining at points, albeit in a âso bad itâs goodâ way.Â
Iâve almost hit 6,000 words though, so until I finish the next book this is where I end off. Thank you for making it this far, I hope you enjoyed my first ever book review.Â

Research hospital workers, families join in applause, waving to nurses, patients inside
KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Theyâre the pace-setters of recovery, serving on the front lines.
COVID-19 patients depend on critical caregivers to speed their drive to good health, and on Friday, the community turned out to encourage them.
The parking lots at Research Medical Center in east Kansas City filled with well-wishers, toting signs, streamers and happy words of encouragement.
Those supporters turned out to honor the critical care nursing staff at the hospital with a unique parking lot parade.
Dozens of cheering hospital workers joined patientsâ family members in applause, waving to caregivers and their patients, who returned the gesture from their hospital room windows.
Haylee Bliss, a registered nurse in Research Medical Centerâs critical care team, came up with the idea for this pep rally. Bliss said she was inspired, seeing family members of patients sit in the hospital parking lot, wanting to be near their loved ones, even when theyâre too contagious to visit.
âI wondered if there was any way we could make that bigger and do it for other patients and any other family. Iâd love to give them that chance,â Bliss said.
The joyful noisemakers wanted to keep spirits high during a tenuous time for the medical community.
Even officers from the Kansas City Police Department East Patrol Division joined in the rally, blasting their sirens in support of these unsung heroes fighting for the health of others.
âItâs something weâve never seen before. Thereâs a lot of unknown. Thereâs a lot of scared families. Thereâs a lot of scared patients and, to be honest, a lot of scared nurses,â Bliss said.
Marilee Clites, another registered nurse at the hospital, came out to cheer and honk her carâs horn in support. Clites said she understands the long hours and stressful conditions that come with this profession.
âIâm praying for them, and we all feel that way,â Clites said. âTheyâre working really hard. Long shifts. They have to wear a lot of equipment. Itâs very tiresome, and it takes a toll.â
Another human touch these nurses are taking involves a different display.
Critical care nurses at this hospital work while bundled up in personal protection equipment. Bliss said theyâre beginning to work with photos of themselves attached to the outside of their PPE, allowing patients to see what their new friends actually look like.
âThe medicine is always there, but right now, doing those extra little things that we can to show the patients we care, and that weâre there,â Bliss said.
Hospital leaders said the parking lot parade came together quickly, having materialized in just six hours after being proposed by a nurse on Friday morning.

A Chance for Happiness Part 4 (Haylee and Kaylee Barnes)
Summary: Judge Ingram rules on Bucky and Y/Nâs adoption petition.
Characters: Bucky x Reader OFC: Haylee and Kaylee, Steve, Tony, Judge Ingram, Pepper, Nat, Wanda, Sam
Word Count: 1,296
Haylee and Kaylee, wore cute blue striped dresses, white socks, black dress shoes, two pigtails adorned with blue and white ribbons, chatted with Judge Ingram, licking a lollipop. âHewoe. Wook. Tandy!!â
Bucky teased Kaylee. âYou didnât save a lollipop for me? Iâm gonna cry.â Kaylee laughed. âSowy. Man, daddy yike tandy.â âAll my candyâs gone.â âNo tandy daddy.â
Judge Ingram: âMr.
