I expect Billy is going to be an antagonist for a while and that's OK
Anti's for either Agatha or Billy are probably going to get more intense as I predict our boy Billy's gonna be antagonistic for a bit. And let's be clear, I'm not hating, or saying either are evil, or in the wrong.
That's way too simple a take for this show. In the words of showrunner Jac Schaeffer:
...we populated the show with similarly flawed individuals who are also selfish and self-serving, who are self-sabotaging, who are constantly standing in their own way. And then they were just in conflict.Ā Everybody is kind of an anti-hero in the show. That was really fun and felt very truthful there.Ā
No one here is meant to be a pure "good guy", which is I think kind of Billy's arc -- but more on that later.
And when I mean antagonist I'm talking about the characters roles in the story. An antagonist isn't necessarily a villain. Agatha is the show's protagonist as well as its main antagonist: as much as she claims she wants only power, deep down she wants a coven, a community, a family. But she is as Schaeffer puts it, "in the way of her own thing."
Billy being an antagonist simply means that his goals ā or some of them at least ā conflict with Agatha's. Rio has been described as a "romantic antagonist" as well because some of her goals are also in conflict.
Long text speculation post and mild promo spoilers under the cut:
Let's first get this out of the way: Why do I think Billy's going to take on an antagonist role? Aside from well, all the things that happened at the end of Episode 5, there's some clues Billy's not all who he's been saying he is:
There's a promotional video with audio lines, and you can hear Billy saying things like "Agatha Harkness can never be anything but a covenless witch" and "I do not trust you".
Billy claiming to be "obsessed" about Agatha and her biggest fan and going on the road for power should know that she is the world's most notorious witch-killer ā why is he appalled about her killing and so against it? And if episode 5 is any indication, power is not what he's lacking.
Joe and Schaeffer have mentioned that Billy will be different in the back half of episodes.
A quick clip from a trailer has Agatha (covered in mud) telling Billy "Last one there is a nice person", implying that Billy at this point doesn't want to be nice. I assume, at this point, he wants Agatha to pay for her misdeeds. The yellow tint of the clip also matches with the current Road area they're on.
Now at this point I do not know if Billy was involved in what I believe is a fake trial in episode 5. I'm inclined to think it's the Salem Seven, and we get this truth of Billy as fallout. I believe he definitely didn't want Alice dead.
Now for reasons why I think it'll be okayāeven interestingāto have these two in conflict and everyone should put away their pitchfolks:
They are going to come to an understanding
You know how in Hawkeye series Yelena wants to kill Barton because she blames him for Natasha's death? I think we'll get a broadly similar arc or vibe for Agatha and Billy here. And they will design it in a similarly emotionally satisfying manner.
Right now Billy's basically like everyoneāincluding the rest of the covenāwho believes that Agatha is truly what her reputation says. And that's not surprising! Agatha is masks and layers and theatrics and she's not opening up unless she absolutely has to.
It may take a few episodes but I expect we'll get that before the series end, with this sobering exchange we have from a trailer:
Why do you let them believe those things about you? Because the truth isĀ too awful.
I don't think Billy will be the Big Bad simply because I expect at the end Agatha's going to have to choose between wanting her coven, her community of witches, and something elseāpower perhaps, or her son, and go back to her old ways.
And for that to happen Agatha will need to have formed enough bonds with her coven, including Billy, to make it a difficult choice.
Power, darkness, and anti-heroes
Look, Agatha is my babe and she definitely needs a win after all that awful that happened in episode 5, but if you think about it Billy being a lot like his mom is really interesting? More interesting than him just being a cute innocent fanboy.
Because if he is an anti-hero, with some darkness in him, it's an opportunity to explore some of the themes or ideas we touched on in Wandavision with Wanda and her power, and her sense of self.
Heroes don't torture people.
Agatha recognises the darkness in people, delights in it even: as touched on in interviews, it's one of the reasons why she saw herself as Detective Agnes in that spell, as an investigator exploring the darkest aspects of humanity. She's seen the worst in people, and knows how to play the villain.
For Billy to avoid making the same mistakes as his mom, he needs to understand not just his power, but his potential for darkness.
Power corrupts, and when you're born with that reality-warping level of power, it's dangerous. It's so tempting to make people do what you need them to. And it's a slippery slope once you start killing, even if it's for good reasons.
Agatha never wanted to kill her first coven, in that moment she only wanted to live. But she did, with a power she never asked for, that made it so easy to keep taking and taking.
It is kind of tragic given the circumstances that Agatha couldn't have been a mentor to Wanda at the end of Wandavision, given the events of Multiverse of Madness, because she made some valid points and they could have been a coven, given Agatha's deep-deep-buried desire for one.
And looking at all the mentor-kid pairings we've seen in the MCU so far (Parker and Stark, Clint and Bishop, Strange and Chavez, etc.), I don't think we've ever had this kind of dynamic.
Interesting power dynamics
I think Agatha is at her most interesting when she's on the back foot. As we've seen in episode one, she's not one to give up when physically outmatched, quite the opposite. She's a survivor, she's stubborn, and she's a performer.
Billy has been revealed to have the magical equivalent of a gun, and is capable of taking this entire coven hostage.
They're going to have to interact in new ways now. But now it's going to be more of a dance.
It's new danger, new complications, but also new ways to connect, and also the opportunity for a more honest relationship.
Knowledge, history, community
This point isn't specific only to Agatha and Billy but I'm reminded of Billy taking it out not just on Agatha but Lilia and Jen as well.
It's not surprising that Alice and Billy, the two youngest coven members are also the most idealistic and noble. The world has not been kind to witches over the centuriesāLilia's been chased out of villages for her visions, Jen has been attackedāand the older members of the group have done what they can to survive: How much can you blame them for being selfish in a cruel world?
Power isn't your problem, it's knowledge.
In this case I mean not just the knowledge of witchcraft, but lived experience as well.
Younger witches have to learn their community's history, and the older ones have to be challenged in their set ways of thinking, in how they've adapted, because they're not always good.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was an allegory to be made here to the queer community as well. Schaeffer has mentioned there is a large overlap between the history and persecution of witches and that of the LGBTQ community.

okay so i did say I was gonna be annoying here's my first little analysis of the trailer for the boys. this shit is messy but its 8 am over here and i just need to ramble... spoiler talk here...
i'm a little concerned about Ryan being so down to kill people this early on in his life, like he's straight up just killing or trying to kill a man in front of a small crowd that got a bunch of phones out, he's also with who i assume its Zoe Neuman and at first I thought it was butcher who was getting thrown againts a building bcuz the guys's colour scheme matched but frankly i don't know.
lowkey feel like the whole arc between Starlight and Homelander will be about him trying to prove to Starlight that she's in the wrong side of history, he just looks so fucking smug when the riot takes place and both his and starlight stans are beating each other up-- frankly both scenes do not seem to be in the same spot... but there's just something in his face that screams "I told you so" to me. its also really interesting how nobody sees him in the middle of the carnage like nobody its stopping their shit when he shows up compare to Gen V where the whole school froze.
likely to be a parody of the captain america musical scene from the Hawkeye's tv show if i had to take a guess but as some xmas production (as u can see the baby jesus scene in the back)
I already seen ppl throw cloning theories over these hairs that I bet are Madelyn's but its just his murder shrine which do include Black Noir so I guess Homelander cheated on Maeve with Noir, I would not be surprise if he has a whole wall of ex-gfs and we might see some Becca's stuff but my question is why its A-train in his house, is he stealing something/breaking in to spy or was he invited by Homelander? and where in the apartment is this? like is down mystery hall over here:
I wasn't sure who this guy its but I'm gonna say Webweaver as he looks like nobody I recognize and his hair its too logn to be Frenchie or Joe and he's according to Vought HQ meant to die by Homelander's hand (maybe he's fucking Anika and Homelander no longer accepts race traitors in his ranks)
I imagine Splinter over here its connected to Firecracker as he seems to be in the conspiracy theory convention and Firecracker its supposed to be yassified Alex Jones plus the con its called truthcon and her show its called truthbomb...
and here's the most spoilery thing and what tells me the Vought HQ spoilers are real... Kimiko will lose her arm to Zoey according to the spoilers and here's she is fighting kimiko and her powers seem to match the description.
I imagien that they finally decide to take a hit at Neuman and try to kidnap Zoe/Zoey and this is the end result...

The Movie - The Bad Parts
Based on discussions with @emsylcatac earlier today, let's talk about Miraculous Ladybug & Chat Noir - The Movie (also known as Miraculous Awakening), and specifically what sucks about it. I want to clarify that this post is meant to be unfair on purpose. It's all about complaining because complaining is fun! Overall I think the movie was perfectly fine, I had fun and I recommend watching it on a big screen because it is really pretty. This post is full of spoilers, and I'll put it in the queue for the 29th so people who watch on Netflix can see it then.
Let's get to it. There are a number of different directions from which you can criticise the movie. Too many fart jokes. Too many Volkswagen cars. Not enough metro trains. Uninspired songs. I'd like to pull it back a step, though, and ask fundamentally: What was the movie trying to do, you know, as a story? Because I don't think it knows.
About something
The movie has set itself a fairly difficult task, trying to fit a monster-of-the-week show into a single cohesive narrative. This isn't impossible, other superhero movies from Marvel and sometimes Sony and even the odd DC one do that all the time. They do that by finding a core story to tell about the people involved. Tony Stark goes from war profiteer to taking responsibility. Shang-Chi fled his father and must now face him. Jessica Jones faces her trauma. Kamala Khan must figure out who she wants to become and what it means to be a hero. Hawkeye must shoot an arrow out of a bow. Stuff like that.
As a show, Miraculous Ladybug doesn't really have that. Marinette isn't standing on the wrong side of a central dramatic argument and must learn to find and believe the correct answer. Her only real problem is that she isn't kissing Adrien right now. Similar things go for Adrien, who has plot attached to him, but not really any arc beyond going from not kissing Marinette to kissing Marinette. And that's perfectly fine for a show like that, there are plenty of arcs for each individual episode. And sometimes you don't even need that and can just save yourself with twenty minutes of being fun.
The movie is exactly like the show in this regard, and in my opinion, that's a mistake. Marinette is clumsy and afraid of being awesome, but that is just basic hero's journey stuff, that isn't a real character arc. Adrien doesn't have an arc at all. So really, there is nothing here, no theme, no arc. Stuff just happens. The stuff that happens is very adorable in my opinion, but most of it doesn't mean anything.
And really, that seems to be the main point of the movie: Have adorable stuff happen. There are a lot of great trailer moments, but then if you see how they fit together in the movie, well, they mostly don't. There are some cute Adrinette scenes, but they are just here to be cute, they don't actually matter. There's some excellent Ladynoir banter, but it doesn't actually change anything or tell us anything about the characters, it's just here.
The movie certainly pretends that there's an arc here. Marinette gets an "I want" song that tells us she's unhappy about being clumsy, and she'd like to design clothes. We have a bit of a hero's journey. We have a tiny bit of a conflict when Chat Noir is in love with Ladybug, but she can't be in love with him because she's in love with Adrien, and he reacts poorly to that (oh god, are we going to get Adrien discourse again? Please, anything but that!). We defeat the villain, and Marinette learns the "Miraculous Ladybug" healing power. It feels like an arc, but the things don't connect to each other in any thematic way.
And sure, the movie pretends there is a theme here, which is "we're stronger together". Except being together is not really that relevant for the conclusion, and besides, nobody ever said they weren't stronger together.
Weirdly enough, there is one character who gets an arc, which is Gabriel, who realises his mistakes when he sees that Chat Noir is his son. That's nice but comes a bit out of nowhere. And the way Adrien forgives him that easily also feels unearned to me. If you go strictly by which character learned the most and changed the most, you could technically argue that this is Gabriel's story more than anyone, which is just silly.
So it all feels a bit lifeless. Many subplots start and stop at random, and many scenes in between the trailer moments feel too short and lifeless.
The Changes
The other thing that feels weird is all the ways that the lore was changed. I'm totally okay with changing the lore to fit into the movie, but so many of the choices just feel less interesting.
Most crucially, when Marinette falls in love with Adrien in the show, it's the culmination of a mini-arc in which she was wrong about him, and he was bad at social interaction, which they resolve with a ritual umbrella exchange. That is really meaningful. In the movie, Marinette falls in love with Adrien because he's handsome and he asks her if she's alright after she drops some books. That's less interesting.
A smaller detail, but in my opinion even more important, are the Akuma villains. There's no doubt that the gargoyle looks greatā¦ but it's a random person who we don't know. We certainly didn't know Ivan that well at the end of season 1 either, but we had at least some connection to him. Most importantly, Marinette had a connection to him, and so her fear for this guy she knows felt real and important. That's gone here. Same for the other villains. They're all just some guys Hawkmoth found somewhere. They don't matter to us or to the heroes, they're just around. In their fight for great visuals, they made the story less interesting.
There are plenty of other examples where the show weirdly forgoes personal moments. The Adrinette montage, for example, is sweet, but it passes by way too quickly. And it's not like the movie didn't have the time, I mean, have you seen these fart jokes?
When it comes to the superhero fights, I am mostly stumped. The movie invented completely new rules, but these rules are for the most part not better or worse, just different. It feels like they feared they'd infringe someone's copyright, but doesn't Zag own the copyright? I think the lack of insane plans prompted by a lucky charm was a bit sad, but I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker.
The Music
I think the songs were alright, I'm just mentioning them here because I know others hated them. My main issue with them is that they felt so unmotivated. It felt like someone had said, "this is where a Disney movie would have a song, so we'll put one here as well".
The Ending
Cutting there? Come on. Not gonna lie, that part got a big groan at my cinema.
The Nachos
Mine didn't taste that great.
In Conclusion
I really should have written this Sunday or Saturday when my memory was still fresh. But I think you get the gist of it. It was a fun experience, but I think it squandered most of its opportunities. There were fun moments, but the connection between them wasn't really there. Most importantly, the movie just didn't really have any story to tell other than "that Ladybug one". But while that is a fine story to have as the premise of a show, it doesn't really work well for a single movie.

Wolverine: Old Man Logan (Comic review)
So, fresh of the high of watching Logan (2017) for the first time I decided I'd also check out the comic where old Logan originates. If your looking for something similar to what you saw in Logan here's where the similarities begin and end.
Logan is a tortured old man
there are very few mutants left
there's a road trip
Western movie vibe.
THATS IT.
After that its all different and it is a TRIP.
Comic spoilers past this point
Okay so this whole thing takes place in an alternate timeline wherein the Marvel villians realized they outnumbered the heroes like twenty to one and decided to put aside there difference and wipe them out all at once. After that the villians decide to carve up America and divide its territory amongst the lead bad guys.
The story starts years after this event where we see the titular old man Logan living the life of of sworn pacifism as a simple farmer with his wife and two kids.
Here's were it starts to get nuts. The Hulk gang are all directly related to The Hulk through the inbred hillbilly children of Bruce Banner and his first cousin She Hulk. together they rule over there tenants with an iron fist from there mighty trailer park. And all of this is certainty a story choice.
After beating the absolute breaks off of Logan for not having this months rent they tell him to pay double next month or they'll kill his whole family. So naturally when a now blind Hawkeye shows up (because of course no one went out of there way to kill Hawkeye) and offers him 500$ to help him move some drugs he accepts.
What ensues is an epic Wolverine Hawkeye cross country road trip. And sure, the country is swarming with subterranean flesh eating mole men, and dinosaurs, and criminals, and The Red Skull is president. But it's not so bad. It's still a road trip. Yay!
So after many exciting events they make there way to the other side of the country and Logan is ready to get paid so he can keep The Hulk's freak kids from eating his family. Its then that Clint decides to tell him that this is not a drug deal at all. He's actually transporting super soldier serum to a resistance cell that plans of starting a new super hero team. A resistance cell that is actually full of undercover operatives performing a sting operation. I found myself wonder how Hawkeye ever trusted a guy who looks like fat Hitler to betray Americas new Nazi government. Then I remembered he was blind and couldn't stop laughing.
After this we finally meet president Red Skull who since the purge has been wearing Captain America's suit because idk he gets off on it or something.
Captain America may be dead in body but his spirit lives rent free in this Nazi fuck's head.
So anyway Logan beats him to death with Captain America's shield.
Which is great. Probably the best part of the comic.
Then he steals a suitcase full of cash and flies back home in Iron Man's suit ready to save his family.
And then he kills the entire Banner family.
except Bruce Jr. He can stay.
This comic is crazy, and while there are interesting parts (The character of Old Man Logan being by far the best aspect) and it was certainly interesting enough to hold my ADHD addled brains attention for the entirety of its 190 something pages I definitely prefer the movie in this case. It's certainly still worth the read. I didn't even go into all the stuff that goes down in this story. Logan's reasons for refusing to use his claws until his family is killed is particularly messed up and heart breaking. There's also a whole subplot with Hawkeye's daughter. I'll definitely be reading other Old Man Logan installments in the future.

Just a big marvel discussion that bounces around. Think of it as a thought exercise. Basically a mess. Feel free to ignore! I donāt really have people to talk about this sort of thing with me so if you want to join in, Iād be happy to have you! :)Ā Iām glad Kevin Feige is finally saying to slow down on the Marvel content. I love Marvel, but itās become such a homework assignment to understand everything. I am WELL AWARE theĀ āNo one is making you watch itā bit, but I can still say my thoughts. Ā If you havenāt seen like...5 different shows and movies, Ant-Man is going to be hard to understand - and Iām basing that off the trailer and non spoiler reviews. I LOVE Ant-Man, so Iām sad that itās getting bad reviews, but itās getting messy and complicated. I really felt the MCU should have ended at Endgame with maybe a mini series of what each major set of characters are up to. Meaning, like 5 or 6 episodes - one to the major groups. Just an idea. Spoilers for Falcon and the Winter Soldier below.
I mean, Kang the Conqueror, Skrulls, Galactucus, possibly Dr. Doom (This is a guess!!!) thatās so much. I am NOT saying they are bad story lines or bad characters, but it almost makes each āworst villain ever/biggest threat everā mean a little less when they are all rather similar. However,, a lot of peopleās contracts are ending soon so I think weāre basically going to be spending the a lot of movies and shows with our favorites being killed off. My predictions are literally most of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Ā Possibly Bucky in the future because Sebās contract is ending soon so Iām thinking Thunderbolts? I hope not, but Iām not sure. His Winter Soldier character has been so wasted. I hate how his story line was literally summed up in a montage. No discussion with Yori that we see, we donāt get to see him work for forgiveness with A SINGLE person on his list. NOT ONE. But he gives it to his therapist and is like I'm done :) I LOVE Samās storyline. I cried a lot, but Bucky? Utterly trashed.Ā Anthony Mackie has several movies to do and Iām excited to see him. Don Cheadle talked a lot about how heās basically ready to move on. Basically anyone that has been there 10+ years I think is inĀ ādangerā. The young avengers are safe, and I definitely think itās going to be a show despite Marvel saying there wonāt be because we know to expect the opposite. Iām not sure how long Tom Hiddleston will be around after Loki season 2. I feel like his time is ending and personally, I felt like his character had something off and I really donāt like Sylvie. I think thatās one of the problems, some of the characters arenāt exactly likeable that are going to take over. The Eternals is a good example of that. Shang- Chi is going to be a great character. Dr. Strange, IDK.Ā This is why Iām only accepting request for the Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye characters at the moment because while I LOVE a lot of other characters, I think itās better to try something new with the characters I know well before branching out to others. I think the super-hero movies are starting to get oversaturated like westerns did 50 years ago. To keep up, we need quality. Not quantity. Those are just my opinions, no one has to agree with m, but Iām always happy to discuss.

Ant-man 3 is proof Marvel's peak has come and gone.
<Spoilers, but I am doing you a favor. Read this; do not watch it.>
-Should have been called 'Ant-man deals with his daughter who has Tony Stark's brains, but teenage hormones.' Cuz the Wasp is in it as much as her fucking parents, so she's not the headliner, and not till the end does it even really feel like they super focused on Ant-man.
-His daughter was practically the lead, and it feels like stupid hawkeye; they're trying to give the next generation a spin, pass the baton when....we can just call it. Make up new heroes. She was boring. Not a thing interesting about her or stood out. Seriously: give me 3 adjectives to describe her that make her different from everyone in the movie. Smart? Determined? Heroic? You mean EVERYONE in the movie?
-BTW: why the FUCK is EVERYONE a super genius now? The mini tony stark in black panther 2, ant-man's daughter when...she's just a fucking kid. From a thief and a regular person; why is she so smart!? Ant-man is kinda a fucking idiot. Genetics DOES come to play. 'Hank taught her in her spare time.' WHY? But ok. COOL. I was great at math, A's, then I met calculus and no one could teach me. Not everyone can be taught HOW TO MAKE A MINI VERSE SATELLITE! I just...why can't heroes be heroic and mindful? Smart people don't need powers to help...
-Ant-man movies always kinda sucked (compared to other heroes). Ant-man is funny, but...his powers are boring, and there are limited things you can do with them. Big, small, woot. They were good because of the special effects (fight at the end of 1. Car chase in 2.) But now ALL CGI ALL THE TIME?! No real sets? Ew. And you cut his crew? The FUNNIEST parts of the first 2 ant-man movies? Because Hank and his wife were that important in ANT MAN and the WASP being they are not either of those?
-Fairly, Thor 4 was a trash pile so unforgettable it somehow made Thor 3 look bad because it had similar tones. So thor started this fall from grace, but ant man 3 was the nail in the coffin. Thank god; let it rest.
-Ant-man 3 is not the funniest, the most original, or at all got a good hook. I am not fucking around: There is not a single fucking thing that surprised me in this movie. Even Mordok being the villain from the first movie (sorry). Why? BECAUSE I DIDN'T EVEN FUCKING CARE! NO ONE DOES! Mordok, his origin, arc, and ending is the largest isolated incident of failure to watch for. He/it it so fucking bland and pathetic. The trailer IS the whole movie. Or at least the best parts...
-I feel bad cuz the end of loki, kang seemed like he would be a GREAT bad guy (LOVE the actor. Watch Lovecraft Country if you have not. AMAZING. A great stand alone season), but in this movie, he is such a fucking 1 dimensional basic bitch, he stands out from no villain. And I know THAT Kang was a different one, but the difference was (hint) BETTER WRITERS!!!! Even tho the loki kang was all monologue, it was at least fun. Chaotic. This Kang is like thanos, without ANY proper motivation but control. CONQUEROR. Who cares? Bad guy #3671 step up, get knocked down. Don't get back up again. No different or better than Justice League.
-And they did the 'save it all from grace from outta no where' endings. Summary: hyper intelligent ants went into the quantum realm with them, but experiences millions of years of evolution (why the ants and not them? Fuck if I know. And how did the ants get back to the cast? WE NEVER KNOW!), and they come to fight kang on behalf of hank in the end. I could do crack, acid, and meth and that still wouldn't fucking make sense to my brain. I guess it was the only way they could keep the word ant in the title cuz they come to play NEVER anywhere else.
None of this movie matters. Worst ant man. Def top 10 worst marvel movies (of recent. Not all time).
'Ant-man and the trailer that gave it all away, 3': 2/10.
Best part? All of them are in the trailer. No worries.
<Side note: what the FUCK is with the inconsistent powers? Ant-man: Big and small (NO FLY yet). Wasp: Flying and Small (NO BIG). Daughter: Small, no flying (tho AFTER the wasp's suit was made) and, oh wow, I can hack this at the perfect time, I can go big now! Why would you not make a suit with it ALL for EVERYONE? The fuck you thinking? I know: it will be more dramatic (but stupid as fuck logically.)>

āSome people have called me the worldās greatest archer.ā
I love how the trailer used the cut where it sounds like Kate is boasting about herself, like sheās trying to one-up Clint. In the show, the cut they used is Kate being nervous and awestruck, like sheās just saying things to impress her hero.
Which...makes sense. Just think about it, she was literally saved by her childhood hero, the one who inspired her to pick up a bow in the first place. She wouldnāt be bragging about herself, sheād be shitting her pants and trying her best to not look lame. So the nervous take of the line works better for the scene.

Okay but did anyone catch Yelena's reference to the "new and improved" Statue of Liberty? She must obviously be referring to what we saw in the NWH trailer!
Gives us some confirmation of timelines relative to NWH and everything!
