#having trouble getting pregnant with your fae partner? Go find a human

Because of the difficulty fae have with conceiving, they tend to be very, I guess, matter-of-factly possessive of any offspring they sire with other species. Fae blood already runs true with children had between fae and other species (otherwise they would have long died out or mixed into something different entirely with how often they have to reproduce with other beings for a higher chance of conception) and fae think nothing of spiriting away a child from its other (usually human) parent into Seelie to live and grow, oftentimes without that parent even knowing the truth behind who they slept with or what color blood runs through their child’s veins. Unfortunately, the non-fae parent often really does just wake the next morning to find the newborn gone without a trace or word. Or, to basically never know that their partner conceived from their time together.
There’s different reasons for this. In the past especially while a bit of a natural glamour existed up to a certain point in their adolescence, an inspiration for the myths surrounding changelings, if the newborn’s looks seemed inhuman enough, then there was a risk of superstition and fear to cause the baby to be killed. And to the fae, babies are in pretty short order to go around allowing them to be “wasted” like that.
But mostly, this possessive view and sense of ownership of fae children comes from the Seelie’s sense of superiority against other species. Of course the babe would want to live among its own people, there’s simply no way it would ever be content with crawling in the mud among humans. It’s not a half-human, half-fae baby, it is always considered a fae child.
#{Fae#this is not representative of Aur's thoughts and feelings by the way I just needed an icon and he's the king#...well I mean he does still kind of also do the 'yeah that's a fae baby' assumption to-- just about everyone in Seelie does#anyways yeah the Seelie-- while also looking down on mortals in general-- tend to view them as like breeding stock#having trouble getting pregnant with your fae partner? Go find a human#sometimes pregnant humans are even kept in Seelie for the duration of the pregnancy until they are swiftlly#booted out post-birth sans newborn#/that/ bit Aur is working to regulate though to uh...make it a little more moral and less skeevy#since I do talk about newborns meeting some unfortunate fates feel free to ask to tag
