If you haven't seen I'm sorry to be the one breaking it to you but since yesterday Fox has started marketing S5 as the last season, and today someone finally got a picture of it.

So I am really not trying to sound delusional here but like ... the chain of events the last few months has just been an endless ping-pong match of conflicting information.

First the new season gets announced. Then Fox exes say they're using LS to launch new shows and will wait to see about a season 6 until season 5 airs. Then that Deadline article says 'insider sources' say this season is the last one. Then Tim himself confirms that isn't true and nothing's been decided. Then Hulu says they're releasing the entire fifth season on Sept. 24th. Then @thisbuildinghasfeelings asks customer service and is able to confirm that's not true even tho it was on Hulu's own website (and the customer service rep had to go like way up the chain to get the truth). Then like 48 hours ago Brian is on instagram talking about how streaming is important for a potential season 6. Now a promo graphic says it's the final season? When that hasn't officially been announced literally anywhere else?? And we know the creators of those commercials are not always super in tune with other parts of production, remember last year when shots from the ‘Mateo is in love with Marjan’ storyline made it into a commercial when that entire storyline was fully axed from the episode?

Idk, it's all just been very weird and messy. I'm not saying it's not going to be the final season, it very well could be and I am prepared for that, but the last few months have been nothing if not a mess of misinformation and a bunch of people saying shit they clearly don't really know for sure. I'm not sitting over here positive we'll get another season but I'm not throwing in the towel just yet either because this feels like far from solid confirmation to me given the rest of this nonsense.

A lot of people have brought up the cold war inspo, especially on reddit and I would like to contribute a little gem I found

Kristin Colby shared this post where many noticed the connection between the audience and the wwwy visuals

So I went to the op's (@/pau.lpzlms) page and found their videos from the show and noticed this (this is during famous last words)

Bad screenshot but it pretty clearly says Garibaldi Corps. I haven't found any mentions of it on Twitter or reddit but I did a little wiki dive.

It's easy to think this is actual historical footage of a war rally or something but the name "Garibaldi Corps" only shows results for corporations and companies with the name garibaldi. However the name Garibaldi is commonly used in Italian military, named after Giussepe Garibaldi, a hero of the Italian unification wars, but none of them are called "corps"

there are different brigades/battalion named after Garibaldi in different wars.

A bersaglieri is an infantry troop made up of mostly marksmen or gunmen. This particular brigade was activated in 1975 in the peak of the cold war, along with its sister brigades manin and mamelli, also named after italian unification heroes. When the cold war officially ended in 1991, the garibaldi brigade became the first troop in the Italian army to become fully professionalized.

the cold war brigade was named partially in honor of these units that served during ww2. These were partisan groups composed of mostly communists as well as non-communist members of the national liberation committee and the Italian socialist party fighting against the occupation by n*zi germany in italy as well as italian fascists during the Italian Civil war. According to wiki: "they were the largest of the partisan groups and suffered the highest number of losses. Members wore a red handkerchief around the neck with red stars on their hats."

There are other uses of the name by Italian groups in the Spanish civil war, the American Civil War, during the polish wars in the 1860s, and a French brigade during ww1

It's interesting how the drum is being passed around the audience supposedly during the appearance from his grand immortal dictator, if the concert visuals do correspond with the poster. the ww2 garibaldi units were italian resistance groups against the fascist regime, meanwhile the cold war brigade was a mechanized troop created in response to the threat of the soviet union. In both cases, Russia is the enemy but the first group were rebels and the second are professional soldiers.

It could simply be that Garibaldi is a common name for Italian military units across history and so perfect for this worldbuilding they're going for but I do think allusions to both these specific groups would be very interesting

Promo art I was commissioned to paint a year or so before the first DUNE movie came out, for the official RPG. It was cool to have a first look on stills from the film that have not been made public yet, and I still have fond memories of working with my mother in law being as a model for the Reverend Mother Mohiam!

Trivia: I haven't read the book back when I worked on this piece. I read it shortly after finishing it, am now I am fully immersed in the worldbuilding and philosophy created by Frank Herbert. I am working on more DUNE artwork as we speak that I will share around the release of the second movie.

My main issue with the lack of promo is that I just don't get why they're doing it? Or rather not doing it. Like why is there NOTHING? Yes the show is probably cancelled (I am still in denial) we get it but it's still running on your channel? And also not just any show but one of the most successful ones. And the rationale part of me understands why they do more for the surf show. It has no fanbase yet and never will have bc it fucking sucks and hopefully will be cancelled after this first season so it needs a bit more support right? But there was literally one day where they did FIVE posts about the surf show within 24 hours??? And I was like this is insanely excessive?? So I understand from a marketing perspective that there needs to be done more for that show but fully dropping Lone Star and tbf any other fox show as well just doesn't make any sense. The official Lone Star account has a thick layer of dust covering it at this point and what happened to that one social media manager whose name I unfortunately forgot but who seemed to have been obsessed with Lone Star and who did the Tarlos games with Ronen and Rafael for example? Like she was seen on set a couple of times while they were filming but nothing Lone Star related was ever posted. Was she fired or already appointed another job when the cancellation was official and all the promo material left with her?? I just don't get it. What brings me great joy though is that even though the Lone Star posts are rare they ALWAYS outnumber any other post by the thousands when it comes to likes and comments and I hope it's a slap in the face of whoever is responsible for the social media accounts.

Your guess is as good as mine, anon! FOX and DramaClub really are acting like Lone Star barely exists anymore and it drives me up a wall, seeing the lack of effort they put into things from their awful graphic design to posting previous season episode clips and screenshots, instead of anything actually new for Season 5. And I knowwwww, I see it too, them posting thing after thing for that damn surf show and we're lucky if there is one Lone Star related thing among all of that on their stories at all! I genuinely think part of it is they want their surf show to get higher ratings than LS so they can be like, "see, we made the right choice", but I love how even with their lack of LS promotion, as of last week LS outperformed their shitty surf show! Imagine what Lone Star's rating could have been with a little more promotion 🙃 And I only know so much about what happens BTS and with crew, but I wouldn't be surprised if that social media woman, who I still adore because she has given us so much fun BTS, had to find some other work or was put on to promote another show, because as we have seen, it seems that once Lone Star finished shooting it was no longer cared about after that. And we know there's still something they did with Ronen holding that yes or no sign, that we still haven't gotten the video for, but here's hoping we might get that in the next weeks or so 🤞. Hahaha, and yes, I absolutely feel the same way about the amount of activity on their surf show posts vs the amount of activity that their Lone Star posts get!! I mean, I remember when another Instagram account, thewrap, were the ones that posted Carlos' introduction as a Texas Ranger, and tagged the FOX and 911LS accounts, it has almost 170K watches but for some reason, that account does not have their likes on, but I can only imagine the number of likes that post has! Just goes to show what the fans and even some of the casual viewers want to see more of!

As per usual, tumblr is the final place I post any ~promo / marketing~ for the shorts I write & direct. This short stars my girlfriend Marina Morris and the lovely Sydney Strock. I adore both of them. I admire the entire crew who worked on this film. This story is about a wannabe screenwriter who is a closeted alcoholic and her girlfriend (kind of--they haven't made it official yet,) and you get to be a voyeur into the moment when they finally talk (ehh..?) about how her alcoholism and workaholism is hurting herself and their relationship...so yeah this is all pulling from my real life...please watch the movie. I put my whole fucking soul in it

This is my OFMD S1 playlist. Loosely follows the season plot. Here we go:

1.) Come Sail Away by Styx

Because duh like why have they not used this in official promos yet but also very call-to-adventure and with vibes of midlife angst

2.) Fraud by Jonathan Coulton

Every playlist needs some JoCo because there's JoCo for every occasion. Fans debate about what this song is about--I think it's very plainly about imposter syndrome as it relates to the creative process--but here I'm applying it more generally to the feeling that everyone can tell you're faking it. In other words, very early-season Stede.

3.) Royals by Lorde

INTRODUCING BLACKBEARD

(Also I did not know until looking this link up just now that Lorde is also a Kiwi! I am out of touch.) 4.) We're Going to Be Friends by The White Stripes

This song always breaks my heart (in a good way) with its sweet tale about childhood innocence and ease of making fast friends. When I was making this playlist, this track made me think of Ed and Stede's ease of "falling into friendship"...because making a new friend who gets you really can be another kind of falling, just like romantic love, can't it?

5.) My Favorite Things by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

Pirates like nice things, and they don't ask for what they want...they TAKE IT!!! This is a cover of the Sound of Music song, but made appropriate for the anarchy of a raid by this aptly-named punk rock band.

6.) You're My Best Friend by Queen

I had to get some Queen in here, and this song has always hinted at a slightly-more-than-just-two-friends dynamic to me. The French talk about all kinds of relationships as involving some type of seduction, not just sexual or romantic ones, and for me this track evokes Ed and Stede falling deeper for each other.

7.) Heathens by Twenty-One Pilots OR the cover by Boston Manor

I realized when I was constructing this list to put on my MP3 player (yes, I still have one, can't you tell by now that I'm old-school) that I don't actually own a copy of Heathens by the original band (and yes, I still buy and…ahem…otherwise own copies of the music I like). I did have access to the metal cover off of Punk Goes Pop vol 7, and I think the rawness of that version fits Ed's moment to Stede of "You were always going to find out what I am" quite well. Whichever you, the listener, prefer, I think this is an appropriate spot in the playlist for Stede to be reminded that Ed does have a history, and they are all, after all, pirates.

8.) The Ship Song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

I love how we all, as a fandom, seem to have discovered this song independently of each other but because of this fandom. And what a fantastic, devastating song it is! It's not just about a relationship that crashes and burns, it's about your own ideals, dearly-held illusions, and self-respect going right along with it. And how it grows to be predictable. I don't really understand the concept of "a good cry", but if I did, I think this song would do it for me.

9.) I Crush Everything by Jonathan Coulton

The second requisite JoCo song of the playlist. This one is literally about a giant squid that hates itself, but I defy you not to be smacked viciously about the head with the Kraken vibes of it.

10.) You've Got To Hide Your Love Away by The Beatles

We've all been there. The fake-it-til-you-make-it "I definitely am doing better now :'-)" phase of a heartbreak. This is Ed's floral nightgown being hidden away and replaced by black eyeliner and kohl; this is Stede's determination to grit his teeth and return to the life he hated and now no longer can even fake his way through. The Beatles always knew what they were doing. (That said, as a note, this is about to be four kinda downer songs in a row on this playlist, and the order does matter, so since the next and last heart-wringer is about to roll up, if the tear-jerkers are getting to be too much for you by this point of the playlist, I suggest omitting this one. The Fab Four will understand.)

11.) Samson by Matthew Luke Sandoval

This is a cover I found on YouTube of the Regina Spektor song, sung with such beauty, emotionality, and earnestness by a male vocalist with an angelic voice. The cover is over 10 years old at this point, and it looks like this guy suffered an apartment fire a little while after uploading this video and ended up not getting his singing career off the ground like he would have if this world knew any sense of justice. I tracked a copy of this song down to a mostly-defunct MySpace page and if my Google-fu is accurate, Mr. Sandoval still lives in NYC and is now an accountant or CPA of some type. I hope he hasn't truly given up on his singing dreams, but sometimes doing so makes life more liveable, so I get it if he has.

That said, this song about the bittersweet regret of knowing a relationship just wasn't going to work although it was magic while it lasted seemed appropriate, especially those famous, poetic lines about "the history books forgot about us". Apply that to a fictional reimagining of a man who history knows more as legend than as flesh-and-blood fact, and his protegee, a starry-eyed would-be adventurer, and how they both went down in flames along with a golden age of rebellion against a vicious status quo, and this tender dirge for a love that couldn't be, sung with a masculine vulnerability, gains a new layer.

Yes, I am very proud of this selection.

12.) Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin

Okay, time to scrape you up off the floor and wipe your nose. Here's a blanket and a cup of something warm. This is, AFAIK, the original version in English of this song (although it was originally written in French), and it has the right musical and lyrical cautious optimism to not only ease you up out of that Pit Of Despair I just put you in, but also to suggest the wistful hopefulness of knowing you'll see your lover again soon, it's just a matter of waiting until the tides and currents and the sea winds align to bring you back to each other. I compiled this playlist earlier this year, and as of this writing we are 10 days away from season 2 premiering, so I am of course conjecturing and self-soothing somewhat here. That said, it's a romance, we know they'll get back together!!

13.) My Favorite Things by Sarah Vaughan

I call this The "Maybe The Nice Things We Wanted Were Actually Feelings and Relationships All Along" Reprise. Another gentle healing song, one that makes me think of cautious but eager reunions and teary-eyed reconciliations.

14.) Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix

This show loves to use purple imagery to show when Ed is falling more in love with Stede, and while the show creators have said they're thinking more along the lines of Prince (and I declare, right now, before all maybe four of you reading this, that I want to bet actual real-world student-loan-paying money on Blackbonnet's canon reunion scene being set to Purple Rain, you saw it here, mark my words, etc.) if the very last scene of the show doesn't have our boys sailing off into the sunset set to the most famous misheard lyric in rock history, what are we all even doing here?

It seems everyone is just confused as hell by the mess they made with the episodes' order 😂 And I am too!

Personally I don't think Marjan's dates and the officiants storyline are in the same episode, even if tarlos' role with Marj is limited it seems like too much to cram in one episode... So I wouldn't be surprised if Tim is confused and yesterday typed wrong or something, but then again who knows? It wouldn't be the first time they moved plotlines around 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, I'm far more confused now than I was before Tim allegedly cleared things up!

I was previously adamant that there was no way the Marjan dating storyline and the officiants storyline could possibly be in the same episode. It looks like Tim's saying that, though, so I have to think there's a possibility that he's not confused and that really is what's happening. It just doesn't make sense to me that there would be so much Tarlos in one episode. Them having a very small role in Marjan's dating is the only possible way it could fit, but you're right, even that seems like too much. It seems so strange that Tarlos will have this whole other thing going on and then they'll show up for Marjan's date and presumably not mention everything else they have going on at the time because the storylines originally weren't in the same episode!

I feel like we might not even have this fully cleared up until episode 12 airs. If we get a promo that's all about Marjan dating and has no hint of Tarlos, that won't necessarily mean anything. We know from past experience that big Tarlos episodes can definitely have promos that don't mention them at all. I'm hoping we'll get new episode 12 stills tomorrow or monday that make it more clear what's going on. Of course, we haven't even gotten the episode 11 stills yet so who knows!

My predictions for Crown Jewel

I still feel like the champion versus champion matches are completely pointless if their respective titles aren't on the line. All they get are bragging rights and a belt that the WWE would probably prohibit them from wearing outside. Is there even a separate belt for the men's and women's divisions? All I've seen is the one fugly belt they keep dragging around to different arenas.

Nia Jax vs Liv Morgan

I think they're finally going to have Tiffy pull the trigger and cash in her MITB briefcase. I already know It's gonna be something stupid though.

If she cashes in on Nia and is successful, she'll have to go into witness protection to be safe from Jax.

If she tries to cash in on Liv, Raquel Rodriguez is gonna to interfere. Rhea Ripley is out with an injury and I'm not convinced that Nia would help her. Someone mentioned that Alexa Bliss could return but I don't know much about her.

Gunther vs Cody Rhodes

Kaiser gets involved. KO gets involved and Randy tries to stop him...or so we believe but Randy goes after Cody too, setting the stage for a triple threat match in the future.

LA Knight vs Carmelo Hayes vs Andrade

We haven't seen Logan Paul since SummerSlam. I think he may come back to try to cost Knight the title. I just need them to resolve this fued.

Women's Tag Team Championship

This is the one match I think I won't watch. They've been teasing a split between Bianca and Jade. I'm not here for that. I would be happy if Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson pick up the title if Belair and Cargill don't retain.

Seth Rollins vs. Bronson Reed

I'm glad that Seth has been shopping in the men's department again but I don't know if that will be enough to save him from Reed. All the people that Bronson has attacked should get involved in this match.

Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens

I hope this match makes Randy rethink his commitment to defending Cody. I don't care who disagrees but Kevin isn't wrong about feeling some type of way about Rhodes.

Bloodline Six Man Tag Team

This is my main event for Crown Jewel. I feel like the images they've put out for this match make it almost inevitable that we get someone coming out to be the fourth man for the OG Bloodline. The most obvious person is Sami. However, I agree with the people who think Zayn should stay out of it. This era of the Bloodline should be "Family Above All". I don't agree with the ones who are pushing for additions that make absolutely no sense. Zilla Fatu isn't ready yet. Dean Ambrose / Jon Moxley is in a whole other promotion. Cody Rhodes is going to be busy with Gunther, Kaiser, and Kevin Owens. Brock Lesnar is a worse choice than Cody.

If it isn't Sami, the only two people who make any sense to add would be Lance Anoa'i or Hikuleo. Lance made a post before WrestleMania about him potentially going to NxT. Hikuleo's signing to WWE hasn't been officially announced but there are rumors he's going to NxT.

I'd be cool with either one but I just need them the even out the numbers. I still want there to be some division amongst the Tongans though. They can team up later but I'd love getting a promo where Jimmy and Jey tease Tama and Tonga about stealing their little brother.

You know, for such a famous movie, the existing stage adaptations of "Casablanca" are surprisingly difficult to find information on and recirdings of.

What I'd keep in mind about the older teens actors having more promo so far is that they're more liked online. The younger leads have more scrutiny on them for whether they like Noah, since they were pretty close before, and Cara while she might be more of a lead this season, also made her likes on X private last month (not long before Elon made it that way for everyone) so they have to know she's being called out for her takes on Israel and JKR. But it is odd we haven't seen Winona or Priah yet

i see where you're coming from it'd make sense if they were just leaning into posting actors they would have to worry less about pr wise. it just doesn't really seem like that is really playing into what they post, at least not in a substantial way

the fact that someone like Winona isn't in ANY promo up until now is weird as hell, especially because Joyce is one of the shows most liked and most iconic characters. (as well as Jo/pper being the most liked ship in mainstream circles) if they wanted to post likable actors to get the hype up she'd probably be the one to go to first

it's also pretty noteworthy that they posted pics of Noah no problem before, even more than once. when even Hopper only showed up once up until now. it's very possible they're holding back pr wise behind the scenes but they're also very much still including him in their official updates

so certain people showing up more than others really does seem to be pretty random as of now and not tied to public perception of the actors that play the characters (people with bad pr like Noah being in posts while generally liked people like Winona not showing up being the easiest comparison)

(and i think it's also worth considering that the production updates we see are generally geared towards fans of the show. people who keep up with the active production of a show that's most likely more than a year from releasing already have to be pretty invested in the property. it'd be a fair assumption on the Duffer's part that the people who are actively following which actors they post are already aware that people like Noah will be in s5. and "holding back" from posting certain actors to what is essentially the core audience would probably not actually do very much since everyone checking ross's instagram already knows who's in the show)

but also, again, i'm not really reading much into who's in the promo posts in the first place right now so i'm not making any guesses about s5 based on this, t'was just an observation. the "teens" being in so many of the updates could be due to any reason really: had fun on set and took more pictures, nothing happened in the scenes that would be a big visual spoiler, or could also just be a real coincidence that we've seen more of the teen group. we're dealing with a small data pool here after all lmao. like, i can say Maya shows up more than twice as much as Noah but in reality we're dealing with 5:2 yk
