my first fic rec ever! faves from the faves: ✨ and fics i would die for: 💎✨
Have I forgotten how to love; remind me once again by Harrystylesisgod24
(M, 108k) After a serious accident, Harry suffers from a case of retrograde amnesia where he hasn't only forgotten the fact that he is a part of the world-famous band, One Direction, but his fiancé, Louis Tomlinson, as well. Despite being immensely grateful for Harry being alive, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and especially Louis, struggle with accepting that Harry might never remember the many things they experienced together; hell, even their friendship is forgotten. And Louis can't quite push away the crippling fear of Harry not remembering that he loves Louis with all he got. Not that any of that is going to stop Louis from reminding him over and over again.
There You Are by lovelarry10
(E, 82k) Harry’s entire life has fallen apart - in one night, his carefully planned future is suddenly uncertain.
Then he meets Louis.
where the tide takes you, i will follow by @pinkcords
(E, 54k) There’s no way around his departure, their inevitable fate. Harry will leave and he will return to London and when he sits in his new flat, wherever it might be, he will think of this summer and the warmth the sun brought him and the way it felt to be loved. He will compare all his future relationships to Louis and when they fall short, he will be disappointed. Harry knows this.
Or, Louis lives in Gloucester and Harry tries to find a way to stay.
waiting for the tides to meet by @nauticalleeds
(E, 60k) Louis lets out a deep breath, thinking about Harry’s soulmate. Thinking about how Harry’s soulmate is probably as beautiful as Harry, some person that Louis cannot compare to, and how the universe has chosen them to be Harry’s. Fuck the universe. “Fuck you,” he calls out to the universe. He’s aware of how crazy he sounds.
Maybe he is crazy, with how he’s falling for Harry. And fuck that, too.

(E, 109k) Louis’ life is steady and calm, moored by his marriage, and tied to his hometown, but after a chance encounter with another man, it’ll never be the same.

(E, 99k) A summer gone wrong (or very right) when, under Liam’s persuasion, Louis finds himself drunkenly applying for Love Island, and getting accepted. Oh, well. A summer spent on an island paradise couldn’t be all that bad, right?
Escapade by @haydolce
(M, 146k) In the grand scheme of things, finding a date for a wedding should be no problem for Louis Tomlinson. He's rich. He's handsome. He's reasonably well behaved. But when the wedding is for his lifelong best friend (and former boyfriend), and is happening in under a month, finding a date for the ceremony and accompanying festivities becomes more of an adventure than he ever could have planned for.

✨ Stranger Stars by shaylea
(E, 212k) Five years ago, Africa offered a grieving Louis Tomlinson an escape from an England he couldn't tolerate. Now it's become home as he leads overland tours across the continent with his best friend and driver Zayn Malik. What's meant to be just another ordinary six-week trip from Cape Town to Nairobi turns into anything but, when future lawyer/current photographer and songwriter Harry Styles and his friends join Louis' latest set of passengers.
Gemma's Dad (Could Use A Guy Like Me) by @lululawrence
(NR, 83k) The summer before Louis and Gemma's senior year of college was supposed to be their last big hurrah before they graduate college and become Real Adults in the workforce. They had it all planned and it was going to be filled with mornings skateboarding, afternoons at the pool, and evenings hanging out with as many of the neighborhood kids they grew up with as they can.
Of course, Louis wasn't planning on getting home and learning that Gemma's dad had gotten the house in the divorce and was dealing with things by focusing on work, the house, and his newly planted garden. It becomes obvious early on that Harry is a bit lost and Gemma is worried about him. To help both of them, Louis is more than happy to help Harry find himself again.
As the summer goes on, the adventures and day to day happenings allow Harry and Louis to spend a lot more time together than either of them ever anticipated and Louis finds it more difficult to keep his growing feelings in check than he ever thought it would be. After all, there wasn't a chance that Harry would ever be interested in Louis... right?
red hands by @dystopianharry
(TNU, 133k) "I’ve never told anyone," Harry murmurs, voice so soft no one else would be able to hear, if it wasn’t just the two of them.
“But you’ve told someone,” Louis says firmly. “And that’s not gonna fucking happen around here. You don’t speak a word of it, or someone’s going to kill you, and we can’t let that happen.”

another dream but always you by @nobodymoves
(M, 66k) Harry is a Dreamwalker; he has the ability to visit people in their dreams and help put them on the right path. He's assigned to Louis, who's struggling after the break-up of his band. It's an unusual assignment from the beginning; Harry has a crush on Louis, and Louis's subconscious immediately decides Harry is the love of his life. When Dreamers cast Harry as their love interest, he can usually redirect them, but Louis is insistent on being Harry's boyfriend, and despite knowing they have no future, Harry wants to keep up the charade.

(NR, 208k) Harry's new to college, fresh out of Catholic school and conversion therapy camp, and Louis runs the campus LGBTQIA organization.
Nameless Night by green_feelings
(E, 155k) For their 18th birthday, every person receives a letter that reads a simple date. That is the date you'll meet your soulmate.
Harry and Louis have different beliefs, live in different worlds and have different dreams, hopes and fears. Yet, they're not so different from each other when it comes to love. When their paths cross, there is no doubt they belong together. Except for that one, essential difference: they didn't receive the same date.
Or, a fic about differences that make no difference at all: Harry and Louis are soulmates. In every way possible. Featuring Niall as a role model, and Liam and Zayn as a different kind of role models.

Jump Before We Fall by green_feelings
(E, 114k) Louis and Zayn's lives revolve around running a hotel by the sea, Harry is a student who wants a life far from home for just a little while, Niall doesn't know where life leads him and Liam thinks he has already found all purposes in his life.
✨💎 my heart is breathing for this moment in time by usedtothebeach
(E, 160k) When Louis first saw Harry at the 2010 X Factor Auditions, he thought he was watching a peculiarly special stranger. But Harry has known Louis ever since he was five years old.
Because Louis has a rare genetic disorder that causes him to Time Travel to important moments in his past and in his future - and to Harry, always to Harry. When they're put into a band together, it seems like everything Harry has been waiting and wishing for has finally come true. Except for the small fact that Louis doesn't know that Harry is in love with him- that Harry's always been in love with him. Fate, it would seem, is just getting started.
A story about growing up and growing together, and the impossible love that makes it all worthwhile.
✨ you were in my dream by @harruandlou
(E, 59k) Louis woke up after having a sexy dream about his best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend resolved to never think about it again. He hardly knew Harry, so what difference would it make? But when they are thrown together only a few days later, Louis had to admit, his subconscious might have been onto something.
Desperation Was My Sanctuary by @insightfulinsomniac
(E, 102k) As a PhD student and transplant to New York City, Louis is struggling for both money and companionship. His roommate, Zayn, introduces him to a friend who is involved in New York City's sugar bowl. Reluctantly, he signs up for a sugaring app knowing he’s probably the least conventional sugar baby on the market. If he can find a sugar daddy who will pay his bills without asking him to sacrifice his own preferences and boundaries, he might just be willing to earn a bit of extra cash by faking a relationship with a millionaire.
At the age of 35, Harry’s spent his entire adult life devoted to his career as a fashion designer. With his label, Eroda, steady and flourishing, he finally has time to settle down. When he reflects on his adult life, he realizes that he’s never been in a relationship and therefore feels behind. Shy and insecure in his inexperience, he turns to a sugaring app to manufacture a “test relationship” on his terms.
Turns out, they’re both looking for something unconventional.
A smutty, non-traditional strangers-to-lovers story about finding yourself, friendship, safety, sexual discovery, and an unexpected collision with tender, profound love.
Of Mates and Men by bananaheathen
(E, 630k) In which, Louis and Harry meet as best men for their best friends' wedding... well... sort of.
Or, the one where Harry's just moved back from New York and Louis doesn't believe in romance.
Or, I guess... the one where Zayn and Liam are getting married.
✨ Next to your Heartbeat (where I should be) by jaded25
(M, 130k) "We were meant to be but a twist of fate made it so we had to walk away"
All it takes for them to fall in love is one night. All they have to do is wait one year to see each other again.
Yet, when Louis returns after his year abroad, the boy who's got his arms wrapped around Harry isn't him. It isn't a stranger either, which should make walking away all that easier. After all, friend's don't lust after their mate's boyfriends.
Technically, doing the right thing should be easy - but when has Louis ever been known to taking the easy way out?
✨ For As Long As I Can Remember (It's Been December) by green_feelings
(E, 128k) After recovering from a severe accident that causes Harry to lose his memory of three years, he moves to London to start his life over as a star chef. Little does he know that when he falls in love with Louis at first sight, it’s not the first time they meet.
Featuring an unintentional game of hot and cold, Harry chasing memories that won’t come back, Louis burying himself in work to try and forget what he can’t forget, Liam being torn between two of his best friends, Zayn as a moral compass and Niall saving the day with good music and brutal honesty.

Summoning Circle
Question: If one could put five fanfics/books in a pentagram to summon you, what would that be?
Tagged by: All my favourite people, @atlantablack-but-shitposting @kilgharrahandaithusa @wynnefic & @being-luminous ❤❤
I think I’m going to go with only books because otherwise I’ll comb through my ao3-bookmarks for ages, only to despair.
1. Terry Pratchett - Mort
I love the whole disc worl series a lot, but this book is maybe the one I read most. I just generally love the premise as Death as a “person,” but this just -- cats love him, and he’s this snarky but actually pretty kind character. And the whole imagery of his “realm” probably has a lot of influence on my own writing. I even have a tattoo of him because god, this book. ❤
2. Jane Austen - Emma
This is a tie with “Pride & Prejudice,” but I sometimes feel like Emma is under-appreciated so I’ll go with this one. I love books where the main character is just - a bit annoying. A bit stupid and mislead and ill-advised, but does grow eventually. And god, is Emma annoying and arrogant, but I also laughed a lot and face-palmed, and Jane Fairfax is a dear. I also just adored Highbury, and just - yeah. Fantastic book.
3. Virginia Woolf - Orlando
Again, this is a tie with “The Waves,” but Orlando is just. Just - I think it was one of the first books that really made me comprehend how not being cis was always part of people, no matter at which part in history or what terminology people had for it. Not in the abstract, “well I know it must’ve always been a thing,” but in a tangible way. And this is such a great read, I don’t think I managed to put it down for longer than I needed to get something to drink in between. Her writing and the satire are just brilliant, and I loved everything about this.
4. Markus Zusak - The Book Thief
I love historical fiction, and this is maybe one of the best books I’ve read about Nazi Germany. Nothing I could write here in three sentences could do it justice, so I’m simply begging you to read it yourself.
5. Albert Camus - The Rebel
This is the reason I’m studying Philosophy, hands down. It also changed my whole world-view and aproach to activism, even though I’ll say that Camus’ writing takes work to get through. It took me ages, but it was so, so worth it. It actually addresses the conflict between wanting to ‘change the world’ and do ‘the right thing’ while also feeling powerless in the face of its cruelty. It doesn’t pretend to offer a (simple) solution, but it still really, really hit a nerve. On that note, “The Myth of Sisyphus,” “The Plague,” and “The Stranger,” are also all brilliant. Just - all of his books. The man was a genius.
This still took longer than expected, and I feel like I could go on for another 10 books, but alright. Maybe I’ll just start doing recs.
Tagging: @marshmallowmcgonagall @and-damntheconsequences @caty-314 @limonium-anemos and whoever else would like to do this! ❤

Planet Score Records - St. Louis, Missouri
Today’s featured record store is none other than Planet Score Records (@planetscore) in St. Louis, Missouri! After hearing from so many of you that wanted me to feature your favorite shops in the land, Planet Score was the first to get back to me with lots of great pics of the shop and some great answers to a list of questions you all will become familiar with as more and more independently owned stores get featured here. The features on Instagram will be as lengthy as the word count will allow, but the full interview and features will always be available in their entirety on vinylexams.com so if you don’t have it bookmarked yet, do it!
Planet Score Records is a music store that’s been a St. Louis staple for years but was purchased and revamped in 2015 by long-time employee of the previous shop, Joe Stulce, and his friend from his years in the 2000s playing in bands around the city, Tim Lohmann. The Guided by Voices (@instagbv) fans here will probably recognize the name, but don’t worry, not only did they get Mr. Pollard’s personal approval, he’s even become a friend of the owners and the shop and is known to stop by from time to time (check out the pics above!).
Here’s the nitty gritty:
Hours:
Monday- Thursday 10am-8pm
Friday- Saturday 10am-9pm
Sunday- 12pm- 5pm
Planet Score Records
7421 Manchester Rd.
St. Louis, MO 63143
314-282-0777
And here’s the interview:
Tell us about your store and how it came to be:
Tim Lohmann (Planet Score co-owner) and I met in the early 2000's playing in bands together in the St. Louis music scene. I had been working at a long standing record store called Record Reunion since the late 90's (re-branded CD Reunion during the CD boom). It was always my favorite shop, long before I got a job there. My friends and I would hang out there almost every day after school, exploring the vast catalog and educating ourselves on all things music. Not long after I started working there, I was promoted to full time manager. In 2015 the owner of RR decided to retire and Tim and I bought the business from him. We really just wanted the stock and planned from the get-go to move the store out of the county and closer to the city (where we lived) and re-brand and re-vamp it. We quickly found a great location in the Maplewood shopping and restaurant district.
We chose the name Planet Score after a Guided by Voices song. Robert Pollard of GBV got wind of our idea, gave us his blessing to use the name, and has since become a friend, popping into the shop when he is in town. Being that Tim and I are both music obsessives and we grew up in record stores, we strive to create our ideal of the perfect record shopping environment. Fun, cool and friendly; the kind of place people will feel comfortable spending hours on end shopping, exploring and chatting about our collective obsessions.
Does your shop specialize in any specific genres of music?
We carry every genre: rock, pop, soul, jazz, blues, hip-hop, punk, metal, world, country, classical... you name it. We are personally really into psychedelic rock, punk, prog, jazz, funk, krautrock, post-punk, electronic, hip-hop, exotica, Indian, African, reggae... St. Louis is a big classic rock city, so we always have a lot of that on hand. LP's, 7"s, CD's, cassettes, movies, posters, even 8-tracks and reel-to-reel tapes.
If you had to estimate, about how much of your inventory is used vs new?
Probably around 70% used, 30% new. Reissues and new vinyl are cool and readily available, but there's nothing like the thrill of the hunt.
What do YOU think makes your shop special?
Customer service is really important. Either one or both (usually both) of the owners are running the shop every single day, and we make sure to interact with every person who comes through the door. We love getting to know our regulars, and keeping an eye out for records that we think they are into. You will never have to deal with a grumpy, clueless part-timer, or a pretentious record store snob here. We are music obsessives who are extremely passionate about what we do. We still get as excited about records now as we did when we were kids. We also try to stock stuff that we don't think is readily available elsewhere. The deep cuts if you will. We are a relatively small shop, and we are careful not to stuff the bins with filler and thrift store junk. Plus we love throwing events and parties: Record Store Day and special sales... our neighborhood will throw weekend events that we always take part in... Our secret weapon is our best bud Joey Bags, a chef who loves to cook for us and our customers. There is an amazing craft brewery, Schlafly Bottleworks, a couple of blocks from us and they always help us out with our parties. We are lucky to have some amazing friends, family and neighbors that always help us out behind the scenes.
What makes running a record store fun and exciting for you?
It's my one and only dream job. I've thought about it many times, and there is nothing else I would rather be doing. To be able to make a living listening to and talking about music all day is a dream come true. Exploring new and old sounds, digging through forgotten collections and bringing joy to fellow obsessives. Music lovers really are the best people to be surrounded by on a daily basis.
What is your most prized record?/Have you finally snagged your ultimate “white whale” yet?
Tim and I both kind of put our collecting on hold when we started Planet Score. We have even sold off large chunks of our personal collections to help build up the business. We get to play records all day, so having a huge collection sitting in our houses gathering dust is not as important as it used to be. We see records come through all the time that we would love to bring home (it hurts sometimes!), even stuff that I never thought I would see in real life. But seeing someone else find that record that they have been searching for brings just as much joy (well, almost as much...). Though, if I ever come across an original copy of GBV's Propeller that might change.
=====
Well, there you have it folks! Please, if you’re in the area, stop by and say hello to Tim and Joe and tell ‘em VINYLEXAMS sent ya!
As always, we encourage you to shop small and support the wonderful independently owned shops like Planet Score whenever you can. These stores make the scene exciting and fun and all of us started our love for our collections in dusty crates somewhere! Thanks Joe and Tim, I can’t wait to swing by!

Top Ten Totally Painless Ways to Support New Line
You matter. After all, New Line exists for you. Theatre isn't theatre without an audience. And also, you are powerful. In fact, you are one of the most powerful marketing tools ever devised by humans. New Line Theatre is a small nonprofit company, doing somewhat less-than-mainstream work, so we will always struggle financially. We could do Nunsense and South Pacific and not struggle, but we'd rather do Yeast Nation, Lizzie, and Sweet Smell of Success, so we struggle. The most direct ways you can support New Line are to buy a ticket or make a donation. But we know lots of New Line lovers are starving artsies, and those aren't the only ways to support New Line. But before we go on, I do have to mention one thing. When you go to our Contribute page, and you click on our Donate button, it takes you to a secure PayPal donation form. What's new now is that you can check a box that says "Make this a monthly donation." We've never been able to do that automatically before. I know that to some people (like me) a $150 donation seems beyond their means. But $20 a month doesn't seem that scary, and that adds up to a $240 donation! Plus, it's automatic, so you might not even notice... I know I wouldn't... But even if you can't donate, there are a bunch of other things you can do to help us! Here are ten.
1. Unleash Facebook! If you haven't already, "Like" the New Line page on Facebook. And then visit our page regularly, and like, share, and comment on our posts, share our events, and invite your friends to our events. The power of Facebook is geometry -- you tell five friends, and they tell five friends, and so on and so on... So help us spread the good word! For us, nothing matters more than getting folks in our theatre door. In most cases, once people see a New Line show, they're probably coming back, and they might even become donors. So help us get them in the door! 2. Give your birthday to New Line on Facebook.  I've separated this out because it's a very powerful tool. Go to your Facebook home page, and look on the left side column, way down at the bottom of the menu. You should see the "Fundraiser" option under Create. Click on Fundraiser and Facebook will walk you through the process. It's easy, and you can painlessly raise some money for New Line!
3. When you come to the theatre, Check-In on Facebook. And take a picture of yourself in front of the set and post it on Instagram, and Tweet about it too! After the show, tell everybody how great it was and encourage them to come see it! Word of mouth is everything to a company like ours, and social media is our best friend. In fact, do this for all the theatre you see in town! Imagine the power if all of us checked in on Facebook every time we went to the theatre. The rest of St. Louis would be astounded at how much great theatre is going on here, that they never even knew about. 4. Make sure you're on our email mailing list. And when we send you stuff, forward our emails to all your friends and family who might be interested. Again, it's the magic of geometry. If you're not on our list, just send a quick request to [email protected].
5. Use Amazon Smile when you shop at Amazon. It's really easy -- when you're heading to Amazon to shop this holiday season (and all year 'round), just go to Smile.Amazon.com instead. You'll end up in the same place except, when you go to Smile, it'll ask you to pick a charity (you'll choose New Line Theatre, of course), and then whenever you buy anything through Amazon Smile (bookmark it!), New Line gets a small donation. And it really adds up! Last season the total in Smile donations was about $200! Imagine if all the New Liners used Amazon Smile this holiday season...! 6. Rate Us on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc.! Like everything else on the web, it's a geometry game. Interaction breeds interaction. And also, people do pay attention to customer ratings. 7. Call or email our funders to tell them how much you love New Line! We've gotten a grant from the Missouri Arts Council every year for twenty-eight years. And until this current season, we've gotten a grant every year from the Regional Arts Commission. (Why we didn't this year is another story, but we hope to get our RAC grant back next season.) It would help us out a lot if RAC and MAC would hear from the community about how great New Line is. Our funders want to know we're serving our community well and have the support of our community. Show them we do. You can call Michael Donovan, executive director of the Missouri Arts Council, at 314-340-6845 or email him. You can all Felicia Shaw, executive director at the Regional Arts Commission at 314-863-5811 or email her. 8. Buy and wear New Line Gear! We've got a lot of cool New Line gear on CafePress -- we've got New Line t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and glasses, greeting cards, teddy bears, rugs, lacquer boxes, pillows, clocks, jewelry, shower curtains, Christmas stuff, stuff for kids and pets! Some of this cool gear would make amazing holiday presents for St. Louis musical theatre lovers!
9. Get the New Line Calendar! Every year, we produce a calendar with high-quality production photos by Jill Ritter Photography. So order a calendar, display it proudly in your home and/or office, and let it be a great conversation starter with your friends and family about how cool New Line is! Plus you get to look at really great production photos all year! 10. Talk about our shows all over social media after you see them! It's important to spread the word, and to share New Line's posts, etc. But most powerful of all is direct "reviews" on social media from audience members. After all, great review quotes can go a long way, but if your best friend tells you that you have to see some weird show you've never heard of, you're gonna listen to your friend before you listen to a reviewer. Some people these days bemoan the slow dying away of the "professional" theatre critic in this new information age, in which everyone can "publish" their opinions. I understand that, but I don't agree. Believe me, sometimes untrained reviewers can really get it wrong, but sometimes trained, experienced reviewers can really get it wrong too. I could name a dozen examples, but I won't. There is real value in "civilians" posting their thoughts about a production on social media, particularly when a show really powerfully affects them. And we do a lot of shows like that. In short, we have a potential army of New Line fans, and if we can mobilize all of you, we can have ever greater success, and our budget can get significantly healthier. Talk about us, advocate for us, post about us, tell everybody about all the cool, quirky, intelligent, thrilling musical theatre going on at New Line. Bring people with you to our shows who haven't been before. Tell all the college students you know about our College Free Seats, and tell high school kids about our high school discount. In other words, Rise up for New Line! Long Live the Musical! Scott from The Bad Boy of Musical Theatre http://newlinetheatre.blogspot.com/2018/11/top-ten-totally-painless-ways-to.html
