The fact that we allow phone companies to get away with just straight up not including an essential bit of hardware needed to make the phone work and now has to be brought separately is completely atrocious
#If you can't tell#I'm pissed#Brought a new phone today#Bc my old one was dying within 2 hours of use#My first new phone since 2019#And found out its not just apple any more that said fuck you you don't get a charging plug#But now samsung are doing it too??#Bitch I hate it here#That combined with the lack of earphone port#I hate tech companies#My last phone was a hauwei#I wanted to get a new one of those#Only to find out they're now not allowed to be sold in the UK#Why????#Bc they actually gave you a plug#I I hate it#At least my phone was relatively cheap#Can't imagine buying one of those 700+ phones#And not even getting a charger#I think I'd cry#Anyway#Vent#Kill me

I just find it interesting that my 9 year old Hauwei Y9 Prime can run genshin impact at its current state easily (on the lowest graphics mind you) but my 2 year old laptop can barely handle downloading Genshin without me clearing half it's memory and then it's INSANELY laggy the entire time I play in single player mode. How are they making a phone version of the game run incredibly smoothly on my old phone that doesn't record videos without having an absolute fit but not a normal ass laptop.
And to add onto that a lot of big gaming nerds complain that mobile gaming and it's micro transactions are busy killing and polluting the gaming industry (I remember hearing it was why Kojima was laid off and never got to make his super fucked up evil Silent Hill) but they never bother to consider that those are the only games poor people CAN play a lot of the time because they run on 9 year old phones, maybe with lag and poor graphics but they RUN.
Maybe if consoles didn't become abandonware every few years and PC games were accessible to the rest of the world who doesn't have hundred of thousands to sink into computers the mobile gaming industry wouldn't have PC and console games by the balls.
But it's not, the every other gatcha mobile game will just keep making more and more money than whatever next gen Triple A monstrosity with ultra HD taints could possibly make, and companies are gonna keep laying off Kojimas and not making good Silent Hills and everyone's gonna bitch and moan about it without actually fixing anything.
Grow or die I guess
My solution for bloatware is this: by law you should hire in every programming team someone who is Like, A Guy who has a crappy laptop with 4GB and an integrated graphics card, no scratch that, 2 GB of RAM, and a rural internet connection. And every time someone in your team proposes to add shit like NPCs with visible pores or ray tracing or all the bloatware that Windows, Adobe, etc. are doing now, they have to come back and try your project in the Guy's laptop and answer to him. He is allowed to insult you and humilliate you if it doesn't work in his laptop, and you should by law apologize and optimize it for him. If you try to put any kind of DRM or permanent internet connection, he is legally allowed to shoot you.
With about 5 or 10 years of that, we will fix the world.

Tuesday, September 3 - Hauwei Island, PNG
What a difference a day makes! After yesterday's rather disappointing village visit, where we never really felt welcome and where there was an odd feeling in the air, we almost didn't go this morning. But it was an entirely wonderful visit. Everyone was friendly, talkative, and the dancers were mostly young and seemed to be having so much fun (as were we), and danced with true joy. There were tables with lots of food for us to sample, ladies weaving baskets, two groups of drummers trying to outdo each other on log drums, lots of families, and a wonderful celebratory air. I talked for quite a while with a basket weaver named Cecilia - she is a widow with eight children, but all mostly grown and the older ones have graduated from college and gone on to good jobs. She was rightfully proud, and it seems the mature women here have a strong bond with each other, as they had fun dancing along with each other, even though they weren't part of the dance "troupes".
The celebration took place in a lovely shaded area off of the beach and they had raked the sand for a good surface for everyone, guests and dancers alike. There were a few modern touches, too, like the small girl with a big cellphone filming her dancing friends. It is obvious that the schools here on these islands (the big one nearby is Manus, which is also the name of the province) are doing a good job, as the kids we met were curious and interested in learning.
We were treated to dancing by two groups, each with their own set of drummers, who alternated for quite a while and then they were followed by four men with guitars who strummed and sang several songs. This got a lot of the local ladies up and dancing, and also one man who was having fun clowning around.. Several of our guests joined as well and were welcomed into the circle. There was a lot of simple joy on display.
We finally left as the action was dying down and went for a walk through the woods with Joe, the ornithologist. This island still has lots of birds (unlike some), and we came across this huge fig tree that was a magnet for several species. It was hot and humid, but the shade made it bearable and we didn't go back to the ship for lunch until the last Zodiac. We were accompanied on our bird walk by two small boys who were interested in learning how to spot and identify birds, and we made the suggestion to the expedition staff that when they visit and bring some items for donations the next time, they include some birding books to teach the kids. Tourism in this province is going to increase, and good guides are always in demand.
We also had a chance to go out towards the reef and snorkel in the afternoon. It was probably the warmest water I have ever swum in, but there were lots of fish and gorgeous corals. I even saw some cuttlefish, which was something new to me. I keep looking for sharks, but haven't seen one yet while snorkeling.
This was our last stop in PNG for this leg, and we had lots of coming and going with customs people, but as always there were lots of local canoes and other boats in the water - some were taking cellphone pictures of us while we were taking photos of them! It was a great way to spend our last day here, offsetting the somewhat bad taste we had after yesterday.
Tomorrow is a sea day, as we will cross the Equator tonight on our way to Micronesia, and from there on to Guam. We will have lectures, a King Neptune celebration, and more. But we had a fun dinner tonight put together by one of the couples we have befriended. Our executive chef is Indian and Peter and Fiona arranged for an Indian feast for our table of eight - several suggestions from all of us, but mostly chef's choice and it was wonderful. We kept passing the platters around until we couldn't eat any more and finally waddled away completely sated. My clothes still fit, but barely, and tonight didn't help, but it was wonderful and a perfect end to a great day.

The Gala S7 marks the return of the microSD slot and water-proofing, and while the battery is still sealed (which doesn’t seem likely to change going forward), Samser has been a lot more generous with the capacity for this generation. Gala flagships have always led the way when it comes to imaging, their cameras always being among the top performers in the market. This time around, Samsung went…

Imo Govt raises bar for SkillupImo Cohort 2
Following success of Cohort 1 of the SkillUpImo Project, Governor Hope Uzodimma is targeting no fewer than 10,000 youths in Cohort 2, which kicks off on Friday. The maiden edition’s success, The Guardian gathered, spiked interest and rush by Imo youths for admission into available 10,000 slots of Cohort 2. The state Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadiz, confirmed that Pre-Admission Assessment had been conducted for over 15, 000 prospective trainees. Already partnering Zinox Group, the state plans to partner Cisco, Hauwei, Microsoft and other tech companies, as well as the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) for certification and value optimisation, the programme will cover various shades of digital skills. Amadi said: “Unlike in Cohort 1, we had to conduct Pre-Admission Assessment to enable us sieve the huge size of prospective trainees and ensure that only committed learners are admitted. We learnt a lot in the course of managing Cohort 1 and the introduction of Pre-Admission Assessment is one of the ways we intend to improve our processes to meet the programme’s objective and achieve results.’’ Going by the extent of work we have done, with respect to process re-engineering, Cohort 2 promises an enhanced learning experience for both learners and instructors.” He further expalined why the project is dear to the governor’s heart. “Governor Uzodimma places high premium on the SkillUpImo Project due to its potential in achieving the triple objectives of positioning the state as the digital skills hub of Africa, tackling youth unemployment, as well as diversifying and building the state’s digital economy.” For Cohort 2, admission of successful applicants is scheduled to start on March 29, while orientation for new intakes will hold on March 31. Four additional learning centres have been established to complement the existing centres at the Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government’s office, Imo State University and Alvan Ikoku College of Education to enhance access to digital skills learning for youths across the state. The additional centres include Federal Polytechnic, Nekede; Imo Polytechnic, Omuma; University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo; and K.O. Mbadiwe University, Ideato. During the graduation of 5,000 participants in Cohort 1, Uzodimma had stated that more of such engaging programmes would help to eradicate banditry and other forms of insecurity in the state, as more youths will be gainfully engaged. At the event, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, described the programme as a shift from creating job employees to producing job employers. He encouraged Ndi Imo to leverage the digital revolution era to build a knowledge-based economy like the United States of America, China and Japan, whose economies are driven by digital innovation and economy than by natural resources. Commending the governor, who he said deserves to be called “The Digital Governor”, he challenged Imo youths to invest in critical thinking and take advantage of the programme for the emergence of another Mark Zuckerberg from Imo.
