The book was written during a time when kids were taught how to write cursive, learn to sign their name, and fill out an envelope.

So some young adults today reading the book might not know where you would put a return address on an envelope and why there would be a post mark stating the Post Office where it was processed and the date.

Those things usually are not on junk mail.

Current fiction reading is Fallen Angel, a 1945 novel by Marty Holland (the pen name of Mary Hauenstein, a movie studio typist turned crime writer). It's a deliberately seedy look at love gone crooked, in the vein of James M. Cain's Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice, and was itself adapted into a movie by 20th Century Fox, with Dana Andrews, Alice Faye, and Linda Darnell. (For the screen rights to this, her first novel, Holland was paid $40,000 -- the equivalent of $600,000 today. Not a bad deal.) Recommended for crime fiction fans, film noir aficionados, and those who (like me) are both.

Rückblick auf unsere gestrige Herbstwanderung 🍂🥾

Was für ein Tag! Unsere Herbstwanderung von Hinterweidenthal nach Hauenstein gestern war ein voller Erfolg.

Morgens starteten wir im mystischen Nebel, der uns ein wenig das Gefühl gab, im Märchenwald unterwegs zu sein. Doch pünktlich zur Ankunft am Luitpoldturm kam die Sonne heraus und schenkte uns eine wunderschöne Aussicht – perfekt, um kurz innezuhalten und die Weite zu genießen. ☀️🌄

Unterwegs gab es natürlich auch viel zu lachen und jede Menge nette Gespräche. Ein rundum gelungener Wandertag, den wir bei einem gemütlichen Abschlussessen in Hauenstein ausklingen ließen.

Vielen Dank an alle, die dabei waren – ihr habt den Tag unvergesslich gemacht! Bis zur nächsten Tour! 😊
