The Wailua river is pretty amazing in a lot of ways. For one it's the only river in Hawaii navigable by boat which means It's the only river that allows motorized vehicles. You don't see many of them this close to the waterfall. All of this water comes from the rain falling on Mount Wai'ale'ale, known for being the wettest place on earth with an average rainfall of 450 inches (11,430 mm) a year. It's definitely worth seeing if you come to Kauai. I feel blessed to be able to give kayak tours on this sacred waterway. Hands Across the Sand: One‘ula Beach, Ewa Beach

On Saturday May 20th, we join with volunteers across the world for Hands Across the Sand – an international event where at noon local time across the world, advocates join hands for a picture that draws a line in the sand against dirty fossil fuels and unites in the mission for a clean energy future.

Surfrider Oahu always hosts a beach cleanup for the event to include a day of service with the rally. This year we gather and clean One‘ula (Haubush) Beach Park as part of this event that has moved around the island each year.

As always we’ll have a lunch for all our volunteers and will be tracking all the debris that we find to bring more attention to the Rise Above Plastics Campaign – highlighting the pollution problem of single-use plastics (that are made of those dirty fossil fuels).

If you’d like to help with the set-up, debris counting and hauling, please contact Matthias, our beach cleanup coordinator, with an email to: beachcleanups@oahu.surfrider.org

We could use volunteers with trucks for this cleanup.
