“It looks nice, you know,” Hatori murmured quietly, not sparing her a glance lest he spook the horse. It had only been a few weeks since Akito robbed Isuzu of her inky locks. “It... Doesn’t take away the emotional pain of it, I know. Akito may have taken your hair, but they will never possess what it is that you do have. Try to remember that.”

What was he doing here? Did he come to pity her? Were both Yuki and Akito so healthy that he had all this time to come and drop by? 

The girl balled her fists tightly clutching the hem of her shirt trying her best not to lash out at the doctor.

“I don’t have ANYTHING..I have nothing else that he or anyone can take away.”

 Rin couldn’t help it anymore all her tears that she had tried keeping to herself this whole time were beginning to unravel slowly making their way down her face.

“Please go away.”

“It’s an insidious jealousy, you know,” Hatori sighed, cutting a glance toward the girl in black that darkened the door of his office. This comment may have appeared to be thrown without reason, but the bruises on her body told the story he’d seen time and time again. Nothing he can say will convince her otherwise, he’s certain, but it’s something he believes she needs to hear post-punishment at the hands of their benevolent ‘God.’ He’s utterly helpless. “Akito envies your freedom. That is why.”

she hates being summoned to their god’s side, only partially because the event was always followed up by a visit to the family doctor’s to make sure that the wounds weren’t too serious. this isn’t the first time they have been in such a situation, and rin doesn’t even have to say a word as she approaches his door from the back way. (she can’t have momiji seeing the bruises, because there’s too much of a chance that he’d tell haru, and she doesn’t want to worry him.) she doesn’t need to say anything, because he knows.

tori-nii knows too much, but does too little.

not that rin can really blame him, not when it’s akito-sama. no one can stop him, not when he’s decided to punish them. and rin knows that, as much as she wishes that she didn’t. but the fact remains that no one does a damn thing, even when they know what’s going on. how is she supposed to trust the adults, when none of them have ever stepped in to protect her? when none of them have stopped others from getting to the point where she is far too familiar with hospital rooms for any sixteen year old.

“what freedom?” the question is snapped out, and the horse looks away to try and rub away the tears of frustration that were forming against her will. she wasn’t free, not really, not when she had to hide so much for the safety of others. she was cursed, she was alone, she could not even rely on her god to care. “what freedom do any of us have, tori-nii?”

“Aren’t you cold dressed like that...?” The doctoral concern was real; suddenly a bit worried about her clothing amidst the falling snow. “Here, take my jacket.”

The brunette whipped her head around to gaze up at the taller man, his still and serious timbre tugging her out of her thoughts filled with admiration for the slow snowfall, already dusting the ground in white. 

“—Hm?” The sound escaped her like a distracted little peep, pleasant smile across her face. 

She was cold, her nose and cheeks going pink from the frigid air. She should have worn a heavier jacket, maybe even a scarf; things she neglected to reconsider as she was rushing out of the house, already behind schedule. Quickly, she began to refute Hatori’s selfless offer. 

“O-oh, no! Thank you so much, but I’m okay! Really!  Do I look cold? Because I can hardly even feel it! Besides, I couldn’t take your jacket — we can’t have you getting sick! Who would take care of the family if their doctor catches the flu?” Tohru began to ramble, unable to help herself when it came to the stoic Sohma physician who she simply couldn’t bear to bother in any way, shape, or form.

                     it was sweet, how smitten the doctor was with his girlfriend. he was sometimes a bit overprotective of the redhead, but kureno couldn’t blame him - not with their family being the way it was. the last he had seen, the girls were helping themselves to the liquor behind shigure’s bar as kureno worked - only to tell him with a vague wave of manicured hands that they were barhopping down the street. 

                   ‘ she’s out with hitomi so there’s no need to worry- ‘ he stops himself, thumb and forefinger coming to his chin in thought a he recalls the last time the two girls went out together. hitomi lost a shoe in the bar and hadn’t noticed until they got back outside, only to be stopped by the police for public intoxication and open containers, wherein the girls had tried to flirt their way out of it - only leading to a couple of annoyed veteran cops. thankfully money talked and bitches walked, that or the cops knew better than to get on the sohma family’s bad side when hatori showed up with some hush money to usher the girls away.

she was in japan and it was over tiring already, she was in a meeting room, these were the most boring part of this job  ...  to make sure, bioweapons weren’t being used and looking at pictures of the infected, the doctors that were constantly around and the big politicians, they always gave her same feeling  ...  and that feeling was uneasy. it was finally over, as one doctor had caught her eye  ...   if she remembered correctly, his last name was sohma ???   ❝ hey ! hello !            dr sohma   ...  ❞ the female spoke out, chasing down the man who had quite the unusual haircut   IT WAS AS IF HE WAS TRYING TO HIDE SOMETHING,            still, even though claire was the type to get information out, that was something she wasn’t too keen on finding out.  𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐀𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐅𝐔𝐋 𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃   ...   lowering her head, before lifting it back up again.  ❝ ah sorry ! i don’t want you to think, i’m SINGLING YOU OUT   ...  in fact, you’re only the doctor i remembered in that meeting, i just wanted to ask you some questions, if you’re not busy or anything !   ❞

‘ does it bother you ’ 

SOMETHING about the doctor’s words bite. Does it bother me ? He needs to ask himself the words in sheer perplexity because it felt like a stupid question. Questions Hatori did not ask. AS IF he would heel over, confess to a ‘yes’ and throw himself into such a state of vulnerability. IF ANYONE KNEW, HATORI KNEW. And he wasn’t going to indulge some little game of playing coy.
