This is a 100% Bengali meal with curries made with a variety of taste unlike the same onion, tomato, ginger garlic paste. . . . From Left to Right: ▪️Kach Kolar Kofta (Plantain Balls Curry) ▪️Chingdi Maacher Malai Curry (Prawns in Creamy Coconuty Curry) ▪️Chanar Dalna (Paneer with Potatoes Curry) ▪️Bhaja Mooger Daal (Roasted Mung Daal Soup) ▪️Shada Bhaat (Steamed Rice) . . . Every year when we visited Kolkata, we used to stay at Didun's home for atleast a week and she always knew that I love these curries made by her. She used to make them on the day I reached and the day I used to leave and every time it tasted amazing, I think because of all the love she poured in while making them. . . . She recently moved to live with my parents after a lot of resistance because she is so independent that always felt that staying with daughter's family will come across as an imposition. Such were values and thinking in those days. . . . But what I remember of Didun is that every time we left her home, she used to mildly bite our (Maa and mine) little finger in the left hand while crying her heart out, saying that her tears shouldn't maar our good happenings and for us to remember her even when we came back to Bombay. And she still cries everytime I go to Kolkata to meet her. . . . Anyways I am sure she will be proud to see this thali that I made remembering her. . . .
