I literally cannot contain my excitiement.

Sitting her, at work may I say, putting these words on paper, so to speak, because f***ing hell, wtf JM?

Where to start?

The colour concepts? The choice of name? Choice of font (That JM popping to eye)? The flower? The links to TTU (notes sheet and flower)? The whole play with Closer than this? The dropped lyrics?

This man is a friggin genius (not that we didn't know this already)...

There is so much to talk about, and he hasn't even started with the promotions, and we haven't even seen the concept photos or the album and the songs. Name, colours, 2 lines of lyrics and we have our hands full already. They certainly know what they are doing.

Before I jump in, I want to, once again, state very loudly and clearly that everything written here are my opinions, which are based on what we've been handed so far, and could change the more we are shown.

So, let's get it...

All references that indeed can be connected with army. I mean, that's what JM is king of.

If these are actual lyrics for a song to come or lyrics that were dropped, one thing we know, and that these words, these lines, they were written by JM, and he made a clear choice to share them with us.

And in doing so, sorry, I'm still not believing this all while sitting here gushing and knowing this was coming (no, I didn't know this specifically was coming, but the feeling that they were going big or going home, that I've had ever since July 2023... took some time and many tribulations, but we are getting there folks). Sidetracked as I always am, lol.

Back on track.... in doing so, JM is basically standing on a rooftop screaming at the top of his lungs:

Not 1, not 2, but 3 JK references in that little shared piece of lyrics clearly written by JM, for an album we are yet to see and hear.

Anyone, and I mean anyone that is a BTS army, that has seen original content, that has followed their Twitter account or seen older tweets, that are open and willing to see it, will KNOW that these lyrics are JAYKAY!!!!!

And let me backtrack a second here...

Cause I did mention that these references could be understood as if they are made for army, right?

So yeah. Army references or JK references? I am going to say both, leaning very much to the JK side of it. Cause that's how they do it. Time after time after time.

Let's mention the colour choices as well.

We have the background colours.

We have the yellow.

And then we have the album concepts.

and Serenade.

Which happens to be Yellow, same colour threaded through Serendipity.

And we even have purple thrown in there too.

Notice how all the lockers are painted purple. The colour of army you may say, but also JK's colour (so again, army and JK?).

And he's pulling out the music sheet from this purple locker.

Those lockers representing his inspiration for his music perhaps?

Giving us these lyrics, then telling us the album is called Muse (or telling us the name of the album and it's meaning and then dropping those lyrics, take your pick regarding the timing, cause basically, same same), showing us the music being extracted from those purple lockers... ya think his muse is that entity he's talking about in those lyrics perhaps (even more so if we see the references as both for army and JK)?

Rhetorical question, btw.

And then we have the mint green.

Perhaps this is what JM was talking about when he told us in his birthday live, if memory serves me right, about going to the starting point, or more so starting from the beginning trying to figure out himself as an artist?

We talked about JK being so loud during 2023 (well, he's had his super loud moments before that, but 2023 and his lives were smoking). And JM, well it felt (and I say felt, cause it's not really true, and I'll explain why) was quieter, more subdued, especially during JK's Golden promotions.

But here's the thing.

JM and JK have their own special oh so different ways of being loud and showing us themselves (and it shows even more so seeing that JK, for whatever reasons he had for it, did not write his songs for Golden - not saying he did not have influence on the lyrics or choice of songs with lyrics he wanted). JK did it through his choices in his photo shoots and styling for his songs and album. He did it with his lives and his total fanboying over JM. And JM, he does it through his art, which includes also but not only his lyrics.

Those two are both loud as fuck. And JM, well if these sneak lyrics are a promo of more to come (which, they probably are seeing that we have Face to fall back on as an example), then he's as loud as a frigging foghorn.

jjks really pissed me off bc they’re so fine to talk about who having different “versions” when 7 is the one with both clean and normal version be combined while lc didn’t get that and still got to achieve 1B streams, like that would always make me mad af, how they let 7 get away w two versions while lc didn’t?? i will never forgive that

like crazy getting 1b with only one version counting towards numbers always makes me so proud of jimin and pjms. that's how you support an artist in the face of adversity. i say we get who to 1b ( pretty much 1/5 of the way there already 💀) so jimin can have two 1bs on his profile.

no but on a serious note, jimin is held to a different standard than the other members. they expect more from him than they do from anyone else. they are happy with what th releases because thats all the expect. they are satisfied with what yg releases because its what he has been releasing. they're satisfied with what jk releases because they expect it now. they're satisfied with their promotions because that's what they expect the company to do for them. jimin has been put on the back burner ever since butter was released and bts' management changed to hybe. they're getting used to seeing very little of jimin and a lot of jungkook. they expect jk to be shoved in our faces and they expect to see jimin less. when jimin gets even a fraction of what jk does, it shocks them and scares them. they see how much success jimin gets with the miniscule amount that he receives, so knowing that he's getting some promo equates to jungkook getting a standard amount of promo. i have a drawing to try to explain this better because im sure we all know at this point i like showing examples instead of explaining

idk how it translates on mobile but the pictures on the left are how things actually are. the pictures on the right are how these "ot7" fans and solos view things. it's like a seesaw. jimin's side is unbalanced below the red line, but they view it as if it is equal. when jimin gets promo in a step to equalizing the balance, they now view it as jimin getting more than jk

Absolute Smokeshow (Part 35 of ?): This Is My Rheality

Lying down on the couch, you try and wait an appropriate amount of time before going back to the bathroom to smoke more. You’d rather not accidentally run into Liv again after she had just walked here with you. Staring up at the ceiling, you try to prepare yourself for what you wanted to say to Rhea after the Judgment Day finished their match tonight.

“Hey, babe. Why did you invite me here if you were going to hurt me like this? Also your ex-tag-team partner is pretty hot.”

Nope.

“Hey, Rhe. From what I’ve heard, it sounds like this might be a pattern. Have you ever considered going to therapy?”

No.

“Hey, Rhea. Can we talk about what happened earlier tonight? I think it might be better if I wait until after the show to see you next time.”

… Maybe.

Sighing, you check the time and decide it’s been long enough to head back and smoke. Grabbing your bag, you walk back to the locker rooms, managing to find them again fairly easily. You quickly step inside and duck into the bathroom, locking the door behind you.

Noticing your cold pack is no longer on the ground, you decide to run your hand under some cold water for a bit. Checking yourself in the mirror, you’re relieved to see the puffiness has left your eyes for the most part and fix your hair after turning off the water.

It isn’t long before you’re puffing on a bit of stress relief. Once you’ve finished the rest of your joint from earlier, you put out the roach and wait for the vent to suck out the remaining smoke before exiting.

Faintly hearing Rhea’s voice once you step back into the locker room, you scramble to duck out into the hallway and head back to the viewing room. Trying to take deep breaths, you sit on the couch, heart pounding. You were never doing this again, you decided; you were already hating having to avoid Rhea, but hearing her voice and feeling actual fear because of it was truly awful.

The television brightens as the feed changes to the live cameras near the ring. Getting comfortable, you pull one of the snacks you brought along out of your bag and watch the last few people filter into their seats in the audience before the show began.

About halfway through the show you were cursing the fact that all of the women’s matches seemed to be half as long as the men’s matches, if that. Reaching the bottom of an empty bag with your more dexterous hand, you realize you’ve eaten all of the food you brought with you. Not being particularly invested in the match that was about to start, you take your bag with you back to a place in the hall where you saw a couple vending machines to get more snacks and something to drink.

Digging out your wallet, you browse the selection and make your decisions. Somewhere down the hall you hear what sounds like an interview taking place. You don’t pay it much mind as you punch your selections into the machines, until it starts sounding less like an interview and more like a fight. Not wanting to get involved, you stuff your food into your bag and grab your drink before heading back to the viewing room.

The feed you saw on the television made you stop in your tracks as soon as you entered the room. Rhea seemed to be fighting a woman you didn’t recognize while a terrified interviewer shrunk back in the corner. Suddenly, a few other wrestlers came to the aid of the woman Rhea was pummeling, one of whom was Liv Morgan. Watching Rhea punch Liv and spit insults at her and the others made you flinch.

As soon as the feed cuts to a promo, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. Doing your best to calm down, you sit on the couch again, opening and taking a sip of your drink. Bouncing your leg anxiously, you wanted to check on anyone who might be injured, but the last thing you wanted was to end up on television. You had to stay where you were until the show was done, your nervous thoughts screaming in the background.

Feeling through the items in your bag, it takes a moment before your hands close around your fidget cube. It would work for now while you stayed in the room to avoid the cameras. Pushing, turning, and clicking the various sides of the cube, you look up at the screen and focus on the sensations at your fingertips. I can do this, you assure yourself, it’ll be the end of the show before I know it and everything is going to be fine.

Walking into the arena all eyes are on you. The show has already started, but you're not here to wrestle.

You're not here for much. You have no bags. No coat. Just you. You look like a million bucks, dressed in high-end labels, every little detail of your look perfect.

That was your one requirement for tonight. Not to be anything less than perfect. That's what he wanted, what he deserves. He told you that you deserve to shine along side him for all the work you've done.

You check your pocket, making sure the brass knuckles are still there. Those are important.

"Regal! It's nice to see you again. It's been a while." Dax walks over, slight smile on his face. He's the only one in the cafeteria who looks any kind of happy to see you.

"Nice to see you too, Ring Of Honor going well for you and Cash?" Dax nods. "Oh yeah, there's been so much going on I couldn't fill you in if I tried." He chuckles. You smile. You've missed him. Him and all your former allies. Not that you imagine many of them will be your allies now.

"We'll have time to catch up again soon enough. You'll be seeing me around more often." Dax pulls you in for a quick hug. "Good, see you round." The two of you head in opposite directions.

You linger in a hall by the gorilla for some time. You don't want to deal with the team in there until you have to go out. So you don't.

Standing and waiting is boring, but you have your phone at least. You check through twitter, even deciding to tweet a vague couple of sentences hinting that you'll be out tonight. As the likes start to pour in, you hear your name.

"He's going out now. We suggest you get ready for your cue." With a nod, you follow the tech, listening to the crowds reaction to their champion going down to the ring. It's been a few weeks. You have so missed this place.

You listen to his promo, words insulting, precise. Smooth like butter. You'd expect nothing less, behind closed doors you've gotten to know the man well. No one knows, of course. The two of you have kept things just between the two of you.

But tonight, everyone else finds out. Including your father.

Your dad has always built you up the best he could. Taught you the ways of the wrestling world. He's the reason you're here. He's the reason you've never had anyone. Because no one was ever good enough for the golden child of William Regal.

You've worked for your father your entire professional career. You've managed wrestlers under his guidance. Done all he's said for years. Now you've out-grown him. And it's time for you to break free.

It's been a long time coming. Your plans have been in motion for a while. All it took was a little time to get him to fall for your plan.

You're signaled to get ready, so you walk up the stairs and stand behind the curtain, watching the events in the ring from a small monitor. "Oh, wait wait wait, wait, wait! Mr. Regal, I almost forgot. Guys, I have a microphone. I know it's real confusing, please, pipe down." The crowd boos.

"I wanted to say, without-" he checks his pocket but finds nothing. "Oh, one second. I must have forgotten them last night, I was a little distracted I must have left them with- Wait, actually.. bring them out!" That's your cue.

Your music hits. The curtain is pulled. Out you walk.

The crowd cheers, mostly. Some people don't seem to know how to react to you. Your father doesn't seem to know how to react, watching as you walk to the ring filled with all manner of confidence.

You climb the stairs and go through the ropes unassisted, careful not to ruin the look. Your dad says nothing to you, simply watching as you walk to stand beside the AEW champion. You pull the brass knuckles from your pocket, MJF reaching out and taking a hold of your hand. He leaves a surprisingly delicate kiss on your knuckles before sliding the weapon from your palm

"As I was saying, without these and without you none of this is possible. I mean, you did so much. You raised such a good companion for the world champion." You smirk, it's not like Max is wrong. "They might have booed you when you came out here, but hey, they respect you. Everyone in this business respects you, because-" as MJF talks he walks.

You take a few steps backwards, before turning and carefully picking up the new title belt. You take a second to admire it before looking back up, right as your father takes brass knuckles to the head. He collapses to the mat, laying there lifeless. Max crouches beside him.

"It's funny. You said I have much to learn and you're the one who made a deal with the devil. Not only do I have triple B, but I have a Regal who isn't going to betray me." Max looks up at you, gaze hard.

It's a warning to you, but you knew what you were getting into when you started this. When you convinced your father to betray Mox, when you first committed yourself to Max. You knew the price you would pay for failure or backstabbing.

MJF turns his attention back to your father. "Allow me to leave you with the same words you left me seven long years ago. Will, the game has changed. MJF exclusively hires top talent or top world class athletes. When you're one of them, send me your stuff. Yours sincerely, the champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman."

With that the burberry clad man drops the mix, standing and walking over to you. He looks at your face, then down at his title belt that you have in your hands.

He places his hands on your waist before kissing you, it's rough and passionate, but short lived. "You're the reason I'm here right now. Not your stupid father. You. You helped me get this beautiful belt, and I'm going to give you the world for that." He smirks, placing a kiss to your cheek before taking the belt from your hands gently.

Max throws the belt over his shoulder, the two of you exiting the ring. He holds your hand as the two of you make your way through the crowd, not once stopping to look back at the ring.

He's the champion, the AEW champion. Your champion. And that is how it is going to stay for the foreseeable future.

Background

Ex-college football player. Missed the draft due to an off-season injury. Got offered a WWE tryout a year later.

The Golden Boy

Oh, Reiner. Poor Reiner. You know how I said Eren got given all the ring time and mentorship he wanted to develop? Reiner…did not.

Reiner already had a lot of things that you can’t teach when he joined - the size, the looks, the athleticism, and the charisma. He’s even pretty good at cutting promos - I’m gonna HC him as having been captain of the debate team in high school and college too, because canon Reiner is a lot smarter than people give him credit for.

ANYWAY, the point is: Reiner came in as almost the complete package, but no one ever helped him develop that last 10% to make him a real star.

I also think Reiner was hired a couple of years before Eren and Jean. I briefly alluded to some Zeke drama before, and I feel like Reiner was probably Zeke’s on-screen bodyguard while the off-screen drama was happening. Even though it had nothing to do with him, it’s coloured his reputation in the eyes of his management, so they’re always reluctant to push him.

Reiner still gets a lot of big storylines, and he’s the go-to first challenger for the title whenever a new champion arises.

Reiner secretly dreams of leaving WWE and doing a tour of Japan and going on to the indies. He always gets pressured into re-signing another WWE contract by his mother, who is also his manager (fuck you, Karina).

Reiner also has a huge love of joshi wrestling. Most people who know this assume Reiner is just into Japanese women, but it’s not that at all. Someone once explained how much joshi influenced the rest of wrestling, and showed him a Manami Toyota match, and Reiner was hooked.

(Also I think that ‘someone’ was Sasha Banks. I feel a bit weird about that because I haven’t really had my AU AOT wrestlers interact with any real wrestlers apart from this - like there’s references and influences, but I haven’t actually pulled anyone real fully into it. That said, Sasha/Mercedes is a big weeb in real life who does love AOT too, so I hope she wouldn’t mind me making her best friends with Reiner in my little headcanons. Anyway - Reiner and Sasha bonded over joshi, they were great pals, and Reiner misses her terribly now she’s left WWE.)

Reiner wrestles as Oggy Prince. It’s a terrible name, based on people trying to come up with something around ‘golden boy’ and royalty because of his real name and his looks. People have gotten used to it now though. They started with ‘Augustus’ which was obviously awful, then it was ‘Auggie’ as a shortened version, then ‘Oggy’ as the easy-to-spell one.

Reiner is now insanely over in Australia, because they can do the Oggy Oggy Oggy/oi-oi-oi chant for him. It’s spread a little bit to the US too, but has really caught on big in the UK. It always cheers Reiner up to hear it, especially if he’s overseas and missing home.

Reiner wears long trunks which are yellow and red and kinda looked like the Armoured.

Reiner’s signature moves are German suplexes, because obviously the guy who looks like Brock Lesnar has to adopt Lesnar’s move set too.

Reiner’s finishing move is a gorilla press powerslam. As a trainee, Reiner got given a vague King Kong theme because Ymir kept calling him a gorilla, and that also fit his name. The gorilla press powerslam is the only thing that survived that. It’s called the Crown Jewel. (In my AU, the sports washing Saudi PPV isn’t called something else, it just doesn’t exist.)

Oh, good question! I've watched so many BL's this year :) How do I choose 5!?!?!?

In no particular order because I can't decide:

Love in the Air

I adore Love in the Air, I liked it right from seeing the trailers and it never let me down. Both couples are amazing for various reasons. The PrapaiSky story was well done and I'm a little in love with Peat. But I have to say I think Payu and Rain are one of my favourite couples from this year and have quickly solidified their place in the favourite couples ever category. I loved their relationship and the D/s elements, how it progressed, how they showed a functioning healthy D/s relationship.

Plus the chemistry between Boss and Noeul is outstanding. Top Tier. I could watch them kiss for hours. I WILL CRY IF THEY DON'T DO A NEW SERIES TOGETHER!!!!

Kinnporsche

What can I say about Kinnporsche. One of the best series I have seen, nevermind it being a BL! I came into KP just before it was released so didn't have all the waiting some people did! Phenomenal casting, I don't think there was a bad choice there. Production values are off the charts. Great how they managed to balance the Mafia story with the comedy elements. I am torn about wanting a second season. I mean I'd love to see more and yet live in fear of them not achieving the same level. Sometimes it's best to let it be! Also another entry with a favourite couple of VegasPete, complicated but fantastic relationship. BibleBuild are amazing together and another pairing I hope to see again.

Semantic Error

And we have a Korean entry. This is one of my suggestions to anyone just getting into BL. It made me laugh, the chemistry between Park Seoham and Park Jaechan is amazing. I actually had no idea who they were or that they were in K-pop bands before watching this.

I particularly liked Park Jaechan's portrayal of SangWoo. I read it as SangWood being Neurodivergent and I personally think it's brilliant, especially with the way Park Seoham's JaeYoung reacts to SangWoo. Sometimes frustrated but most of the time accepting and learning to adapt to his thought process.

Old Fashion Cupcake

For our Japanese entry, we have Old Fashion Cupcake. This one hit differently. I've been dying for some BL with older characters and they delivered. What more could you want than a 29-year-old chasing and wooing a 39-year-old who doesn't realise it and also discovers his queerness later in life! It's beautifully done and nice to see people still reaching for something and achieving it when they are full-grown adults! Because you know that's life.

Choco Milk Shake

They sucked us in with the kinky D/s promo photo's and I fell for it! But this has been such an amazing series. Originally slated for a 10-episode run they changed the airing of the last 3 episodes and have snuck in an extra episode! Episode 11 is due to air on the 20th Dec. Episode 10 is 100% the original ending but I think they realised how popular it was and maybe wanted to squeeze out another episode. Plus I know how people reacted to the Kissable Lips ending, maybe Strongberry doesn't want the same outcome!

The casting choices were outstanding. Lee JaeBin is completely believable as a puppy in human form and Kim SeongHyuk as a cat in human form is spot on. Seriously they nailed the mannerisms of a dog and cat.

Interesting how such a comedic show with a comedic premise also somehow manages to deal with loss, grief, and loneliness.

Some honorable mentions: The Miricle of Teddy Bear, Cutie Pie, Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Soul, Big Dragon, The Eclipse, Plus and Minus, Kei X Yaku, Secret Crush on You

What did your mother study at university? I won’t give it away but it’s 100% the first university that’ll come to Filipinos’ mind if I say it’s in Manila haha.

When was the last time your living situation changed in any way? 2008 when we moved into this current house. We used to live in a duplex with extended family on my mom’s side.

What was the last thing you took a video of? It’s a video of Tajiri from the wrestling program I went to two weeks ago. I don’t always keep videos from the shows, but Tajiri used to be in WWE and is very near and dear to the Filipino wrestling scene so I had to capture the moment.

Has anyone ever tried to convert you to their religion? Considering I live in a country where nearly everyone is Roman Catholic, no.

Are there any ways in which your childhood was highly atypical? Well yeah I guess the alcoholism and occasional violence and shouting matches can speak for themselves.

What’s something that used to really stress you out, but doesn’t anymore? Leading work calls. Used to scare the shit out of me, especially as an associate who merely followed my manager; but after more than a year of actually being the manager and holding the responsibility for being the main point person for every campaign, it’s nearly nothing to me now. I still kinda get stressed every now and then especially when the people in the call are unfamiliar, but I mean I haven’t ever panicked yet LOL so that’s a win.

Do you prefer to be around introverted or extroverted people? Extroverts.

Have you ever stayed in a hostel? Yeah but it depends on their facilities and location – I wouldn’t stay anywhere sketchy. I stayed at a hostel the last couple of times I went to Zambales and that place wasn’t bad at all.

Have you ever been somewhere where you didn’t fluently speak the local language? Yes – China, Japan, Korea. The last two were manageable as people we encountered understood basic English; but I’m pretty sure I only ever spoke with my parents the whole time I was in China.

Do you own a disco ball? Nope, never had a need for one.

I mean, I don't actually know anyone who finds Tom holland attractive. In person nor online friends. Sure, some of them think he's a bit precious, but not at the level of 'smash or pass'. I once went to a comic con last year and me and my bestie friend were talking to this guy in charge of this Game of Thrones event, and we somehow got talking about what girls found conventionally attractive. And it wasn't Tom Holland, but rather Jason Mamoa and Pedro Pascal. Apparently, according to this guy, every girl and other genders had to find one of the two attractive and be utterly obsessed with them because they were 'tall, big muscled'kinda guys. Now my friend loves Pedro Pascal, and I won't lie - he is very good looking, and a very sweet guy. But neither are my go-to men. They're - or at least Mamoa - are too muscely for my liking.

And whilst he was having this debate (and kept looking me up and down with very clearly 'I'd smash eyes), I was too busy looking at the Tywin Lannister board there because I like and find Tywin attractive (I have issues, leave me be 🤣). And when I was finally able to get a word in, I told him I wasn't either of those men kinda gurl as again, not my physical type and but rather I was more "an Egon Spengler, Arnold Rimmer kinda girl". Plus, can you or even that guy blame me?? In their case, Egon and Arnie especially are just downright gorgeous. And it's the same for pengy because I also had and stoll have a very large crush on him since I was like....12....Since when the first ever episode of Gotham came out. I actually remember when the promo adverts were on TV, and I said to my dad, 'we're watching this' without any windows for disagreement 😂. But in the first episode, I thought Ozzie was attractive as hell. Especially as the show progressed. He has such unique features. The pointy nose, sharp jaw line, vampire hair-doo 🤣. None of what is conventionally attractive, and yet, most, if not all, my old discord online groups loved him too. He's so sarcastic, cunningly smart, and yet wears his heart completely on his sleeve and trusts pretty much anyone who's willing to give him that bit of attention and time. He's so sweet.

It's the same with Crowley from supernatural, Dracula from Young Dracula, Dr Brenner from stranger things (hush 🤣), Tywin, Rumplestiltskin. Non of them are what is considered modern generation 'conventionally attractive' and yet, I've heard more on them and others, than people like Tom Holland, the guy from Dune and Wonka (I keep forgetting his name), Pedro, Momoa, and so on. The most I hear about Tom Holland is about his time as Spiderman, rather than him as an attractive person.

I dont know anything on the lady side, though. But I can say that just because society digs someone as being unattractive, that doesn't mean they aren't attractive at all. Because there's so many people out there like us who think they are.

This was...not supposed to be this long but all the recent promo content has been...inspiring. Anyway...on ao3 here.

The first attack happens on a Saturday afternoon.

There’s nothing special about the day, nothing strange. Christopher is at a friend’s birthday party, Buck is off somewhere with Taylor, and Eddie is grocery shopping before he’s meant to meet Ana for an early dinner.

His shoulder aches a little—that’s what he notices first—but that’s not too unusual. It happens sometimes. Even as physical therapy has helped him regain strength and mobility in his arm and shoulder, a high caliber sniper round ripping through his upper chest is no minor injury. Plus, while he’s hardly ancient, he’s not even as young as he was when he was shot the first time, and those bullets left behind their own patches of scar tissue and occasional twinges.

So. His shoulder aches. It’s fine. He ignores it and moves on. Goes through the store, checks out, put his bags in the backseat—

There’s a glare off a window in the apartment building across the street.

Eddie reaches for the handle of his door.

Suddenly, his fingers start tingling, uncomfortable pricks of icy numbness traveling up his hands like they’ve fallen asleep, but shaking them out doesn’t help. And then, without warning, pain lances through his chest, sharp and acute, and he can’t breathe properly, as if his torso has been trapped in a vise that’s slowly tightening more and more.

His vision swims. He sways on his feet, grasping at the door handle with clumsy, numb fingers to keep himself upright.

He feels like—he feels—

He feels like he’s dying. It strikes him with sudden clarity. He’s dying. Dying in a random parking lot—he always assumed he was too young to have a heart attack but the symptoms fit and he’s just—

He can’t. He can’t die. Not when he’s survived everything else. This can’t be—

“Sir?” There’s a woman with a station wagon parked in the space next to his truck and she’s looking at him with no small amount of concern. “Are you okay?”

Eddie’s mouth is so dry and his breathing so irregular that it takes him a moment to respond.

“I—I think I need to go to the hospital,” he grits out as another wave of dizziness threatens to send him to his knees.

She calls 911. Eddie spares a moment to be grateful that the paramedics who show up a few minutes later aren’t from the 118.

As it turns out, he’s not dying. And he didn’t have a heart attack.

“A panic attack?” Eddie’s voice is distant to his own ears as he stares at the ER doctor in disbelief, his stomach flipping with a new kind of dread. “Are you sure?”

“Your symptoms resolved on their own and your EKG is normal, Mr. Diaz,” she replies as she flicks through the screens of his chart on her tablet. “And nothing in your prior history or other recent tests indicates that there’s anything physically wrong with you—you were healthy before you were shot and your recovery has progressed smoothly up to this point.”

She pauses and looks back at him. “Have you...spoken to a therapist? I noticed that your treating physician made a referral for counseling when you were originally discharged, but…”

Eddie clears his throat roughly. “Yeah, no, I, uh...with the PT schedule and everything else going on, I never followed up with that. But I’ve been fine. It never seemed necessary.”

“With all due respect, Mr. Diaz,” the doctor says, “you’re in the emergency room because of an acute stress response in which your brain tricked your body into believing you were in danger to such an extent that you thought you were dying. I’m not sure you’re as fine as you think.”

There’s probably some truth to that. Eddie can admit that much. But that doesn’t mean he needs—he’s been shot before. He’s been in a warzone. He didn’t need therapy to move forward from it then and he shouldn’t now. He can—he can handle this. He can make himself get over it.

He’s already spent months leaning heavily on everyone around him. The thought of not being okay, of asking for more help when he’s finally easing back into working, when things are finally getting back to normal, when they all have their own issues to focus on—

God, it makes him want to throw up.

So...no. He’s okay. Because not being okay isn’t an option.

He’s fine. The panic attack was...a fluke.

“I appreciate the advice,” Eddie says finally. “I’ll think about it.”

He can tell the doctor doesn’t believe him when her lips thin.

“You know, more likely than not, the panic attacks will keep happening if you do nothing,” she points out. “Ignoring this won’t make it go away.”

“I understand,” Eddie replies. “If that’s all, does that mean I can get out of here?”

The doctor sighs. “Sure.”

Eddie’s phone rings while he’s in an Uber on the way back to his truck. It’s Ana.

He swears under his breath as he sees the time—he hadn’t called anyone, hadn’t wanted the hospital to call anyone either, but that means he’s now late for a date that he doesn’t really want to keep after everything and further doesn’t leave him with any good excuses for his absence except the truth which...he doesn’t really want to admit.

Before the shooting, Carla told him to make sure he was following his heart. And he’s been too exhausted and focused on his recovery to really think too hard about that. But now—

For a moment, Eddie considers it. Telling Ana the truth. Showing her some of the dark, messy, ugly pieces of himself. Being vulnerable.

The very idea makes him recoil. Not because he thinks she would run away necessarily, but because he just...can’t.

He can’t. Not with her.

And if he’s that uncomfortable with the idea of letting in someone he’s been dating for over half a year, if he can’t imagine himself ever actually being comfortable with that...then what the hell is he doing?

He calls her back when he gets to his truck.

“Hey—I’m so sorry, I had a little emergency—yeah, everything’s fine now, but I’m not sure I’m up for going out. Can I meet you at your place? ...okay, great. See you soon.”

He may know even less about ending a relationship than he does about dating in general, but he figures he at least owes it to her to end things in person.

Eddie goes to work on Monday feeling fine. Great, even. He sleeps well the night before, he gets Christopher off to school on time, traffic is light enough that he gets to the station early—

Everything is fine. By all accounts it should be a good day.

At least, that’s what he thinks right up until all of them get different emergency alerts sent to their phones and they find out the city’s systems have been hacked. From that point forward, everything is chaos. Damage control. Twenty-car pile-ups because stoplights are being messed with, an outbreak of animals from the zoo when the electric locks on their enclosures released—

Eddie’s fine though. He’s fine. It’s nothing he can’t handle—in fact, he’s usually great with chaos. He’s focused and sure and capable. Nothing else matters but the work, certainly not himself. When he’s busy, he has no time to think about anything else.

The gradually worsening tension in his shoulders can be ignored. The way he has to clench his hands into fists to keep them from shaking in a way he hasn’t had to do since his earliest days in Afghanistan can be brushed off. He doesn’t have time to think about anything but the jobs in front of him, which means he doesn’t have time to think about his own state.

Brush it off, pick yourself up, keep moving forward. That’s what he knows, that’s what he can do.

Except, then they end up at the hospital and—

A medevac helicopter falls off the roof. Bobby nearly joins it. Buck and Eddie barely manage to get him back.

A cold sweat breaks out on Eddie’s brow as Bobby leans heavily against the wall next to the roof access door to catch his breath. His stomach roils. He doesn’t feel fully connected to his own body, caught somehow between present and past, a rooftop in Los Angeles and a desert in Afghanistan.

He breathes in. He tamps down on the rising panic.

Bobby is fine. The helicopter pilots and their patient are fine.

He’s fine. He’s fine.

“Are you okay?”

Eddie jumps at the question, his head whipping around to find the source. Buck’s brow furrows as he holds up his hands.

“Sorry,” Buck says quietly. “Didn’t mean to startle you.”

Eddie swallows hard and shakes his head. “You’re fine, don’t worry about it.”

He glances toward the door. “You know, I think I’m going to head back down,” he says, hoping Buck won’t notice the fact that he hasn’t answered the original question. “I want to make sure the pilots are holding up alright.”

“I can come—” Buck starts to offer, only for Eddie to cut him off.

“Someone should stay with Bobby,” he replies. He forces a smile as Buck’s eyes search his face. “I’ll be fine.”

Buck glances at Bobby, then back to Eddie before he finally nods.

“Okay,” he says. “But here, take the radio. If anything happens—”

“I’ll let you know.”

Eddie makes it down one flight of stairs before he decides to take the elevator the rest of the way down. The numbers on the top of the doors tick down, down, down—

And then, abruptly, the elevator lurches to a halt, throwing Eddie off balance and into the wall as the lights go out, plunging him into total darkness.

His ears ring from the impact.

He’s trapped. Trapped in a metal box in the dark. A box that could easily become a coffin if the emergency stop failed and sent it careening down to crash at the bottom of the elevator shaft.

Eddie’s breathing speeds up against his will. His chest starts to hurt.

Not again, he thinks vaguely. Not here, not now, not again.

But. He can’t move. He can’t breathe. Some distant part of his mind recognizes that what he’s feeling isn’t real, that he just needs to calm down, but he can’t—

He’s going to die. He’s going to—

The radio crackles in his belt.

“Eddie? Eddie! Can you hear me?”

Eddie’s mind latches onto the sound of Buck’s voice like a lifeline in an ocean of distress. It takes him a moment to make his trembling hands work through their numbness, to remind his fingers how to work the buttons, but eventually, he lifts the radio to his mouth.

“I’m here,” he says. His voice shakes. “I’m in the elevator. It’s—I don’t know which floor. Or if I’m between floors. I don’t—”

He shudders. His eyes close, not that it really matters given how dark the space is already.

“It’s okay,” Buck replies. “It’s okay, Eddie, we’ll find you. We’ll get you out, don’t worry.”

“I don’t want to die here.” It slips out of him before he can pull it back. Buck takes a sharp breath on the other end of the line.

“That’s not going to happen,” Buck says firmly, although his own voice seems less steady than usual. “I would never let that happen. I’ve got your back, remember? Always.”

A shudder rips down Eddie’s spine and he slides against the wall to sit on the floor. The walls still feel too restricting, like they’re closing in on him more each moment that he looks away.

The radio crackles again.

“Eddie. What can I do? What do you need?” Buck asks.

I don’t know. I don’t—I can’t—

“Eddie.” The fear and desperation in Buck’s voice cuts through the fog in Eddie’s mind.

He never wants Buck to sound like that.

“Keep talking?” Eddie replies. “I—just keep talking to me. Please?”

Don’t go, is what he really means. Stay with me.

He’s never allowed himself to say those things though. Not during the early days of the pandemic when they were sharing a bed in Buck’s loft. Not after he moved back home with Christopher and the other side of his bed felt too empty for sleep to come easily. And certainly not after he started dating Ana.

During his recovery, he never had to ask Buck for anything really. Buck was always just...there. Even though he was with Taylor, he was still there with Eddie and with Christopher whenever Eddie needed him. Like he knew somehow. Or maybe as if he needed to be there as much as Eddie needed him there.

Eddie hasn’t looked too closely at any of that. He’s not ready to. It’s too much, too complicated, too—too—

Dangerous.

“What do you want to talk about?”

Eddie swallows hard as his head rests against the wall. As he allows the sound of Buck’s voice to wrap around him like armor. Like home. Insulating him against the panic and isolation.

“Anything,” he says quietly. “Just keep talking.”

And Buck does. He talks about everything and nothing, random facts and stories from his past that Eddie hasn’t heard before, he talks and talks and talks until his voice grows hoarse in Eddie’s ear and the pressure on Eddie’s lungs eases.

Eddie exhales shakily and takes a few deep breaths as he continues to listen, as his body shifts from hyper-awareness and panic to wrung out exhaustion. When Buck finally cuts off, it’s because there’s an ugly screech of metal as the elevator doors are pried open, as light filters back in.

Eddie’s legs are unsteady as he gets to his feet. He trips on the edge of the elevator door when he exits—

Buck catches him before he can fall. Because of course he does.

“Thank you,” Eddie breathes into Buck’s shoulder as he finds his balance.

Buck shakes his head. “I promised we’d get you out, didn’t I? Besides, I—I shouldn’t have let you go alone.”

“I decided—”

“I shouldn’t have let you,” Buck repeats, low but insistent. His eyes meet Eddie’s and Eddie swallows hard.

“You weren’t okay. Were you?” Buck asks. And Eddie—

He wants to lie. Part of him does at least.

But he can’t lie to Buck.

Not to Buck.

“No,” he confesses. It’s half a whisper. “No, I wasn’t.”

Buck bites his lip and nods once.

“Okay,” he says. “We’ll figure it out.”

And somehow, Eddie believes him.

I mean it’s been mostly filler for a long time. The actual Pokémon Card Game is extremely fun but I can’t recommend literally anyone try to get into it for so many reasons. Packs being mostly filler, absurd power creep in recent years, Promo cards (the only ‘rare’ cards you can guarantee getting) being explicitly designed to be bad, making new cards immune to old tech cards by changing from EX to GX to VR or whatever it is now, and lastly and most importantly the absurd price and card scalping. The scalping is so absurdly bad it’s ridiculous. Fuck it im telling the scalper story again.

Idk if it has gotten better in the 2 years since, I’m pretty sure they don’t even sell em in stores now, but when I had a job for a separate company that Walmart pays to put up displays and stock certain items I got more experience with scalpers than I’d ever wanted. I was the person responsible for putting out the Pokémon cards, and the scalpers knew this and stalked me wherever I went to see if I was going to put out cards, even when I went to other Walmarts. When I put them out they’d immediately take everything with booster packs in them and buy all of it to sell online for way more than they bought em. When I wasn’t there they’d wait around at Walmart all day til I showed up because they made so much money off the cards that it was worth their time to do so.

One time I was about to put the cards out but then I saw the scalpers so I put the cards back in the back of the store, intending to put them out after closing when they couldn’t bother me. The scalpers saw me do this so they went to the Walmart manager and THREATENED THE STORE saying that if I didn’t put the Pokémon cards on the shelf “there’d be hell to pay”. The only good thing to come from me having this job was that I’d sometimes get the chance to let little kids buy a card pack before the scalpers swarmed the shelf.

It’s such a shame that the PTCG is actually a fun game when the designers of the cards hardly seem to care for it and no one can afford to play it anyway

Those accounts that just post Pokémon cards are neat and I should be able to appreciate them for the art but instead I look at most of the cards and think “wow this was deliberately designed to be useless in the card game. Sure is weird that most of the cards that exist are, from a ptcg perspective, just pack filler”

Isn't it interesting that Al choose to all of a sudden donne his sunglasses the second they started speaking about "Hello You" on X-posure? I just replayed it to make sure I didn't imagine the sudden appearance of the Ray Bans. Did he quite literally take cover? Interesting how it's that song where he feels like he needs the shades on. After all he wore sunglasses for the first tv performance of Body Paint, which seemed like a shield situation and he has been wearing them for specific songs at concerts all summer. Thoughts?

I've finally managed to watch the track by track. And I love it a lot, John Kennedy always does such a great job bringing out interesting conversations and getting them to open up about stuff they actually want to talk about.

On this one in particular though, compared to the ones he's done for the other albums, I feel as though Alex is more reluctant to share intel on lyrical content than ever before. Surprising, considering how vulnerable and open some of the lyrics seem. Or not surprising, really, at all, for the very same reasons. I find myself wondering if he decides not to share too much because he doesn't want to, maybe because it's too personal and not really anyone's business. He doesn't think it's part of the deal, that people get those insights to how he feels or thinks.

Or if it's because he thinks it will take too long and bore the listeners, like he mentioned in the interview with Jo.

Either way, I think he enjoys keeping things to himself. He doesn't share details about himself, he struggles to tell anyone anything about himself, even his favourite dessert. I know it was a joke, but I think there is still a nugget of truth hiding in there somewhere. That it will be out there for everyone to hear, everyone will know, if he says it. And he doesn't want people to know. Or he doesn't know how to explain it fully in a way, where people will know it the way he wants them to.

He is a perfectionist in every aspect of life. A bit of a control freak too. And I love that about him. He couldn't create consistent material of the level of quality he does, if he was any different.

Sorry, this is getting very long and rambly, and I haven't even answered your question. I'm just very intrigued about the way his mind works and how the element of reflection and introspection and sharing those things, being asked to share those things, combines with the need for privacy whilst being in the public eye.

Or maybe he doesn't know how to describe what he feels or what he was trying to convey in the songs. Doesn't have the vocabulary he wishes to have to express it, or put it into words the way he feels it should be. In a way that people will understand.

He is so intuitive, he follows his gut, his instinct, and it's more apparent than ever before on this record. His gut comes first, thought comes second. He has often referenced how it is only during the promo and interview cycles that the work begins to open itself up and reveal itself to him, it is only now that he can look back, in retrospect, that he knows what it is. Or what it has grown to be.

One of my favourite things about his creative process is how he views his work as something that has a life and mind of its own, it grows and evolves and does whatever it wants. The work unveils itself to him and he is just along for the ride. The song goes wherever it wants to go. And he is often surprised by how and where it ended up. That's so interesting! I relate to that on so many levels.

And he has mentioned how he sometimes doesn't feel like he has quite worked it out yet. The "working it out" comes later down the line, when the instinct has been satisfied and the brain can get to work. I wonder if it's sometimes why he struggles to express himself about his work, because it simply hasn't revealed itself to him yet, and he hasn't quite figured out what it wants yet. He hasn't discovered the way he wants to divulge it yet.

When asked about his work, he has said back in the day how sometimes he just doesn't know yet, and that he needs to be further away before he can make that call or judgment.

Sometimes he has said that he suspects people aren't really interested in hearing what he has to say about it. Which is so interesting and very heartbreaking, and I hope it is meant mostly as a joke. Or as a way of saying that people should make their own interpretations and that he is much more interested in hearing what other people make of it than he is of sharing his own version. Maybe he fears people will be disappointed by his take. Or will enjoy their own fantasies more than him shutting their analysis down to prove a point.

Anyway! I think he is so deeply connected to his intuition when he creates that he can't find the words to express what it means before he's had some time to step back and really look it over, play it live and spend some more time with it before making his call about what it might mean.

He expresses vague notions about what concepts or ideas the songs might be circulation around or trying to invoke, but he sometimes seems to not even quite know it himself. Not this early in the cycle, at least.

Of course he knows more than he lets on, the lyrics are always more and deeper than we will ever know. And he created the bloody things and it all came from his brilliant mind, he knows them in and out, but I still think there is such a strong sense of the songs taking on a life of their own and him simply following the path they're showing him. He has mentioned going by instinct so many times this cycle already, and I love how he has begun to trust it more, trust his process and be confident enough to share it with us.

I think, in regards to the sunglasses, they work as a bit of a shield, as you said. If he feels a bit unsure or self conscious. He is so incredibly self-aware and maybe he needs them sometimes as a bit of a distraction, a way to shut everything out for a bit and give himself a little breather. To give himself time to think without feeling like he is being watched all the time. It must be exhausting.

He's mentioned in the past how he wore them because he'd just have his eyes shut anyway, which I think is a bit of a joke, a way to allow himself to do it and get away with it, even if it made him feel like a bit of a twat for wearing them indoors 😂 I think he has worn them a lot in the past as a shield, a way to hide his soul away from the ever present judgment and curious eyes, a way to grant himself an ounce of privacy in the midst of everything.

I'm reminded of their TV performance at Austin City Limits where he kept putting them on, taking them on, and apologizing for not being able to do it without them, expressing the need for them, and then putting them back on again. He couldn't get through that performance without them, and he seemed so incredibly uncomfortable and unhappy during that performance. It's literally the lowest point I've ever seen him at, I think, and it just shows how they can act as a bit of a life preserver for him.

Now, I don't think he is struggling that much these days. He seems very happy and healthy and calm, relaxed most of the time, and to be enjoying the process so much. He loves this album, he loves the band, he loves getting to play again.

So, I think at this point it's more habit and distraction than anything. Maybe sometimes he uses it to hide if he gets a bit emotional, or if he just needs a moment to breathe, but in this case I just think it was habit. Having something to fiddle with, maybe if he was a bit nervous. I didn't notice any particular discomfort or nervousness during this interview that would usually be the reason for him putting them on. Maybe he was second guessing what he had been saying so far, regretting some choice of words or wishing he could've answered something in a more succinct way. These are things he has mentioned before, and it makes sense if it kinda hits him a bit sometimes and he requires a little breather.

He seems to be holding on to them every minute this cycle, along with his jacket, jeans and boots. It's seems to be a comfort thing. A habit, or a uniform he puts on to be Alex Turner. For now at least. If that makes sense?

Sorry I've been scarce, I'm finishing up my 95th illness this year and desperately missing mask mandates, but I really wanted to yell about the gloriousness of Boston (the episode, though the city's pretty great too). I really couldn't tell you about the accuracy of the city's depiction since it was hard to see through all the tears, I was more or less on a constant state of sobbing during the episode. And i've really, really TBC

been wanting to do a song, but I've been so stuck on which one to do. My criteria of "it should be about healing and moving forward" and "should involve water imagery" hasn't been especially helpful in narrowing things down, but I will get there!! Fortunately (not really) I have time since we have over a week till next episode. Aside from that I've been enjoying all the salt throw KR and LD's way while trying not to think too hard about having to put up with that character all season. I think you already said it, but as a fellow RNM veteran you know keeping expectations low doesn't always work, some showrunners have a knack for managing to sink even lower. I do find it interesting all the promo has been focused on the dispatch fire which isn't happening for a few episodes. Wonder why they don't want to show us all the cool fire rescues that are surely happening in the intervening episodes 🙄. At least we have time to prep for Eddie's breakdown.

I meant to answer this on Friday but my mental state about the show has been Not Great Actually sooooo that's been fun 🙃 I'm so sorry you've been sick again though 🥺 I wish I could help with a song choice, but if I have to think too hard about Madney I want to cry and wrap them both in blankets until they're smiling and happy again 😭😭😭

As for keeping expectations low, yeah it's SO HARD, because we know there is good stuff coming up with Eddie in therapy and Buck being In The Room, and Eddie possibly coming back to work, BUT then there is all the interviews and stuff and knowing what the person in charge (for the most part) thinks about Buck and Eddie, and getting teased with Eddie maybe coming back in 5x16/5x17 but LD still being there filming for the finale and knowing that KR wrote and directed the finale....there's just a lot there to make you lose hope, ya know? I know everyone is on the "vow renewal "oh" moment for Buddie" train, but unless Tim steps in and writes that scene like he did for The Will and The Scene With Chris, then we are likely going to end more on the "massive amounts of tay-kay being shoved into scenes she didn't belong in and trying to pretend that this is a cute couple moment when all anyone sees is a deeply traumatized Buck being taken advantage of" side of things like we did with 4x14. (Unpopular opinion, but 4x13 is a better episode by far because that shooting scene is a cinematic masterpiece, that KR undercut at every turn in 4x14 from having tay-kay being the ONLY one to see Buck in the aftermath, to being there at the "party" instead of ANYONE in the firefam, to Bobby's weird behavior towards Buck when everyone expected him to be more understanding. The three saving grace scenes were the immediate aftermath of the shooting, The Chris Scene, and The Will Scene, two of which we know KR didn't think were important and that Tim put in because he said they needed to be there.)

ANYWAY, I'm hoping after 5x13 we'll have a better idea of how much LD we are going to have to put up with and what her and Buck's dynamic will look like, in comparison to what the interviews touted. Because even the GA are pissed about her and her taking up screen time and NO ONE wants to see her being "flirty" with Buck, especially while he still has a gf. Them using those interviews to prop up this new "best pals with sexual tension" idea instead of "Buck is in a dark place and making bad choices because of it" really, really killed this arc before it ever started. Fandom has made far more excuses for Buck's behavior than those interviews did, playing it off like it's a fun thing that makes Buck feel alive again and brings joy back into his dreary existence because his gf was making him miserable and that....that has left a really sour taste behind for everyone. So here's hoping they will lean more into the idea that Buck is actually spiraling out and cut as much of their interactions as they can. Given the immediate and deeply negative response to her character, I'm doubtful there's anything they can do to salvage her now, the only question is will they be able to adapt enough with this 3 week break to salvage Buck's character, and salvage their ratings and reviews.

Because right now things are....pretty abysmal as seen by the fact that it's nearly impossible to spot LD in any official clips or posts or synopsis so they can keep from getting negative comments on them. But if she's not promoted as being in the episode and then is heavily featured, especially if she's flirting and being buddy-buddy with Buck, the backlash will be even louder afterwards, just like it was with Tay-Kay. And maybe more so, because 5a was when casual viewers really started getting tired of the show not focusing on the main characters, especially with two of them missing, meaning we should have been able to focus better on them since there was more time with less characters to split it between. But KR chose to use that time for a character people already didn't like (and knowing how much stuff got cut to wedge her into episodes I can't fully buy the "oh we needed more filler footage and she was cheap" excuse. They're already paying the mains for every episode, why not use them? Or use Ravi who the GA is actually fond of and wanted to know more about and is also already getting paid instead of having to pay someone new to be in an episode, and cut already filmed and edited scenes to put her in? Sounds like passing the blame to me). And then those interviews came out and made it sound like LD is a new main character who isn't leaving any time soon and just fits in SO well with the team and everyone loves her, and she's SO cool and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Now viewers who have just been waiting for our mains to have storylines again are doubly pissed, so I think they will be even harder on her than tay-kay especially with the cheating plot making everything a thousand times more awkward and cringy.

I also enjoy reading the salt and people's reactions and the backlash, but unfortunately, all the salt in the world (though it feels good in the moment) doesn't change the fact that we're still stuck with what we're going to have to see on screen. And we're stuck with it because someone in charge refuses to follow through on the narrative that's been set up by 4 other seasons of this show. By writing, and acting, and directing, and lighting, and consuming, and editing, and music choices. It's deeply frustrating to watch a narrative be betrayed like that, as any RNM veteran knows (or anyone who has watched a show with a "true soulmates" structure that inexplicably went with "lets watch them both happily date and fall in love with at least 3 other people before we let them get together in the final season). It's frustrating that they would rather tank a beloved character's creditability to push him with these awful women he never should be going after just to create some pointless teen-show drama, than allow this love story to finish unfolding in a natural way. We are on the precipice of it going on too long to logically explain why it didn't happen sooner and after that point anything well begin to feel more like a bone being thrown because "it's the last season who cares if we lose viewers now".

And who knows! We might get an "oh" moment for Eddie or a third party confession this season (though at this point I kinda hope not because KR doesn't deserve ANY of the praise or credit for it, and this season doesn't deserve that honor) or beginning of the next, but that doesn't mean that this whole thing with LD was needed, or if she's barely there that it wasn't as "bad" as we thought it would be, it simply means that they had to majorly course correct after bleeding viewers and getting trashed online for this juvenile cheating plot in a show that's usually above such cheap drama. Everyone has been saying since season 4 that things felt different and that season 5 has been messy, inconsistent, and definitely not the show people fell in love with. Here's hoping that's enough to bring about some changes before there's no magic left to save.

Initial S6 Thoughts

With Lucifer watched, I can now return to social media! Yay!

I managed to go into this season completely unspoiled. I didn’t even watch the promo (since last season, I wished I hadn’t; it gave too much away). I don’t want to spoil anyone even with my reaction to S6, so I’m going to throw my first thoughts under a cut.

Okay. While I was not anticipating time travel as a narrative tool wielded so forcefully, and while I look forward to watching it a second time without doubting literally every single thing Rory said, claimed, or did as a potential evil plot twist, I will say that this season basically hit all the notes I personally wanted hit, and I was pretty satisfied by how those notes were played. 

I loved the domesticity and ease between Chloe and Lucifer, and I loved the conflicts--the super strength, the LAPD, the reveals of Linda’s book (bless that whole episode oh my god)--between them, too. 

I love that Eve and Maze had a wedding--a tangible symbol of the connection they wanted and needed and chose--because I think it was important. Maze needed to walk down the aisle with her friend. Eve needed to walk that aisle alone. They needed to walk down it again together.

I also love that Chloe and Lucifer didn’t have a wedding. Because not every relationship needs that outward symbol, and I love that theirs was shown as a loving and committed relationship even without the traditional trappings that usually mark it.

I loved Ghost Dan, and Ghost Dan broke my heart. I loved Ella figuring things out because of course Ella figured things out. 

I loved that both Lucifer and Amenadiel found callings, and that those callings were so in line with who they grew to be over the course of the show. 

I love that Chloe’s being a good mother was honored. I’ll admit that I was still a little underwhelmed with Trixie’s role (though her scene with Dan was lovely) this season; it did feel like she was sidelined a bit by the shiny new daughter. But I also know there are lots of reasons for that involving things like actor scheduling. Something I didn’t love was that Trixie was not with her mom and sister at the end. I would have been so much happier if Chloe had been surrounded by the found family we saw her build throughout the show--even if it wasn’t all of them--rather than just the deus ex daughter of the sixth season. She didn’t lose that family because she lost Lucifer, and I’d have liked to see that shown.

I loved seeing Lucifer as a dad. I did. I don’t think every person (or every character) needs children to complete them, but I do love the amount of growth and perspective Lucifer had as a result. In a story that revolved so much around love and family and mistakes and reparations ... I loved that Lucifer got that extra level of growth. Plus Lucifer and Rory’s Day of Fun was beyond precious even though my dark distrusting skeptical heart was waiting for the evil plot twist that never came.

I loved Lucifer’s goodbyes. Maze nearly destroyed me. And I love that those goodbyes were for all of us, too.

Though the practical part of me was like OH MY GOD CALL BACKUP when Lucifer and Chloe went to 10th and Swanson, I absolutely freaking LOVED that fight sequence, wow. (Chloe doesn’t actually need a full bulletproof vest--she just needs one for that one part of her chest, amirite? God, just think of the scar tissue.)

Many things about this season, this ending, are exactly what I wanted to see happen and what I would have written. Lucifer as Hell’s therapist, angels having a role in the stewardship of humanity, Amenadiel as a God who accepts help, the importance of choice and change. I’m glad Lucifer remained immortal and Chloe wasn’t made immortal. I love all the ways partnership in all its forms came to play. I will say this: though of course Chloe and Lucifer being parted was bittersweet ... I don’t know that it was entirely necessary. Rory didn’t know her father growing up; she wouldn’t necessarily have known if Chloe and Lucifer saw each other when she wasn’t around. They had to keep things as they were, sure (freaking time travel), but only from Rory’s perspective, and she wasn’t omniscient. Anyway. I’ll write a fic about it or something. 

It’s genuinely hilarious to me that a couple of things that happened this season have already existed for years in my Taking the Fall notes. Uh, probably not the things you might think. But if (when) I ever get to them, I swear to God, I thought of them ages ago! Any resemblance to canon is coincidental ;P

I’m sure I will have a lot more to say later. But for me? This farewell worked; the show went out with love, and I’m so, so very glad we all fought so hard so it didn’t end on shock and a devil face three seasons ago. I will miss this show beyond measure; it has meant more to me than I can really put into words. But fandom is here and, as my husband so aptly put it earlier, I can always watch the show again. (And again. Don’t you know that, Detective?)

Harry was out and wandering the streets of London today, seen in the park and out to eat and all over just doing his thing all alone but for his lil blue bandana- happy pride month to all! Along with the bandana were the dick necklace and more stripey shorts like the Golden video ones; no beanie this warm day, just a white cap. More pictures of Louis today too, but not FROM today, just more of him lookin good at the wedding- plus one so many people were waiting for, yes! There’s Hot Luke!

Liam checked in today while he was on his way to do another podcast, something with a “smart entrepreneurial” person, and he followed Steven Bartlett, an investor, author (“Happy Sexy Millionaire”) and podcast host (“The Diary Of A CEO”) so that’s a clear enough announcement of that I’d say. He also posted to recommend a track from Wolverhampton singer/producer S-X (and followed him and said guys please check out my friend), and to tell us he’d be going live on insta later but alas, later came and went with only a message saying his podcast recording had run over but maybe tomorrow, and dropped by the discord to leave some messages here and there and tell people to “be nice and kind to each other!” (strongly advise some actual moderation too though sir, haven’t we SEEN that simply telling your fanbase to TPWK doesn’t work??) and to confide that he had a new song ready to go for some time soon but “PS don’t tell anyone” UM you told us that the other day but OKAY. He posted a new link to the discord so more fans can join.

Niall wished Tom Holland a happy birthday and said things, so many things, and even more exciting promo is yet to come; he and Anne Marie will be on RTE tomorrow but also-- they’ll perform on Jimmy Fallon June 7!! Today’s interviewer really went hard on 1D Qs so, “We never really saw ourselves as these big stars, we were just lunatics going around the place, like kids just having fun and at the end of the night we would just get up on stage and play it to 70.000 people, it nearly became in a way half normal," and "It's cool when you think about it like that, you have been part of so many people's lives around the world for so long... I mean the longer it lasts, the better for me cause I absolutely love what I do!" and “They’re all good. Babies, movies, and tunes. Everyone’s doing good. Everyone’s just going along with it and having fun,” but also “The worst one I'm getting now is 'oh I used to be such a fan' and you're like 'uh what happened, you're not happy with it anymore?'... And I'm actually like 'why? did my music not suffice?” lol ouch. But he also told this little anecdote and it sounds like they played his solo stuff so that’s something right? “I remember one time I was at dinner in Milan with my manager & we walked in & could tell straight away that someone had noticed me.
