If this was a game, I think a fun gameplay mechanic would be like a friendship meter. The friendship meter is affected by how you interacted with others. And if you have a higher friendship meter with people, they'd be more willing to help you. For example, companions with higher friendship do more damage when pomni takes them with her. Or another example is because ragathas kinda like the shopkeeper if she has a higher friendship her prices will be cheaper but if her friendship level is low they'll be really expensive. You can raise the friendship meter by going on side quests with the others or using positive dialog, and negative dialog makes the meter go down. Idk I just thought that it might be fun.

I CAN"T seem to avoid the concept of "What if the Harlequin AU was a game instead", THE UNIVERSE KEEPS PUSHING IT TO MY FACE LIKE MY YOUNGER SIBLINGS WHEN THEY SEE A COLORFUL THUMBNAIL sighs....... back to my Shadow of the Colossus boss osts bullshit..... (affectionate)

The Amazing Digital Souls-like is a Non-canon compliant Alternate Universe (that's also a game rather than an actual fantasy world) of the Harlequin AU, where a stylized souls-like VR game called "The Marvelous Mechanical Harlequin" came out at some point during the rise of souls-like gaming.

Waking up in a well-lit main lounge of a manor, the new, amnesiac Harlequin player is met by "Bubble", a Butler Blimp, and "Caine" The Puppetmaster (whom is VERY VERY LOUD btw), claiming to be the only one who can "help her" in her current predicament.

As to be expected, she's very much on the verge of a mental breakdown, barely keeping it together while attempting to make sense of the world around her. (seriously, who thought pitching this game who sucks people inside of it to the public was a good idea??)

The Puppetmaster then proceeds to infodump everything the Harlequin player should know:

That this is a souls-like game;

she is a Harlequin Puppet in the middle of a TERRIFYING ROBOT apocalypse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SCARYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that she has to go on a boss-rush type of playthrough IF she EVER wanted to have a chance at getting out!

He'll also be the game's official guide, to which the player is having trouble digesting all this information (not surprising at all.)

When asked what's her name, she can't remember and begins crying onto the floor again (lmao skill issue). The Puppetmaster then picks one at the top of his head; "Pomni", which she reluctantly takes because it's better than having nothing.

From there on out, Pomni undergoes through a series of hardships as she dies (in a video game!!!!!!!!!!!!! MIND YOU, SHE DOES NOT DIE IN REAL LIFE!!!!) over and over again, attempting to defeat various bosses, who are the NPCs. She gains more and more confidence in the battles, but she's still quite the nervous wreck otherwise.

But hey, at least she's getting quite close to Caine, right? He's so nice, and sweet, and very caring of her, careful to reassure her that she's doing a great job with the tasks. There's also a deja vu in her head that's telling her this is somehow familiar, and his presence is a comfort to her.

Surely, everything's all fine and dandy, right?

... right?

Little did this Harlequin know, there is a DARK secret to all this.

And that is the fact that the late bosses aren't just regular boss AIs, they're OTHER PLAYERS trapped in a boss's body, for some goddamn reason. She finds this out when she accidentally does a good chunk of damage to a boss's heart, making them able to speak to her for a bit before going back to being hostile.

With that in mind, Pomni has to DELIBERATELY hit their very durable hearts, if she wants them to be reform as normal players as the hearts imprisoned the ACTUAL avatars of the players.

The Puppetmaster is taken aback, but seems to let Pomni do her way reluctantly.

Once they are freed however, they become Pomni's allies, but they seem... unnerved by the Puppetmaster and tend to avoid him. Every time Pomni asks them why, they're just quiet and looking away. Otherwise, they seem to be grateful and helpful to Pomni about anything else.

This of course, raises Pomni's suspicions of the game's advisor, but she still needs to comply with the rules of this world and thus, has to keep throwing herself to the wolves over and over again.

By the time Pomni frees the Maddened Princess of the Theater, The Puppetmaster declares her ready to face with THE FINAL BIG BAD HIMSELF, The Patriarch of Puppets, an "evil entity who transformed everyone into horrible Puppet monsters". Everyone scoffs silently.

Pomni, according to him, must defeat the Patriarch as the final step to video game freedom.

But by the time Pomni arrives to the final arena, The Patriarch attempts to have a conversation, and seems to be struggling with himself.

The Patriarch explains that his boss body contains "Able", someone who was close to Pomni in real life, who entered in the hopes of making his brother leave the confines of the game. He was able to remember details due to his admin access. Caine only agreed to leave IF he was capable of defeating all the bosses without using his admin abilities, "just like old times".

It was only until his late game run when he figured out (after a heated argument) that the original AI gamemaster, the very heart piece on Caine's chest, took over Caine and was making him act like a manipulative monster. When he tried to pry the heart piece away, he got sealed in the Patriarch's body as punishment.

The Puppetmaster may be unable to revoke his admin access, but it can be sealed off.

Able's been stuck ever since, but still secretly had a bit of access to the game codes if he did it on the low, an oversight by The Puppetmaster, and thus, managed to gain some semblance of control over the Patriarch's otherwise very hostile and bloodthirsty AI just in time for him to talk to Pomni.

The Puppetmaster denies these accusations, and advises Pomni not to believe the boss's manipulative words.

Pomni now has two choices.

>Kill The Patriarch of Puppets, or >face The Puppetmaster.

"Kill the Patriarch of Puppets" ending:

if Pomni decided to not believe Able, he loses his control over The Patriarch and the final boss fight begins. Once Pomni is victorious, The Puppetmaster then congratulates Pomni, but reveals a secret: That there was never an exit.

Pomni simply passed the final test, and now, she's ready to become a boss herself. Try as she might, she cannot escape this and she becomes "The Mechanical Jester of the Circus", the new final boss of the game. All her movesets are reconfigured to become the boss' attacks.

Able resets to normal, now forever trapped to be The Patriarch as The Puppetmaster corrects the previous oversight. The others are reset to become bosses again.

A new player joins, unaware of the horrors that awaits them.

Sad ending :((( How very tragic....

"Face the Puppetmaster" ending:

if Pomni decided to believe Able, a boss fight still ensues but this time, The Patriarch of Puppets is only the Penultimate boss instead of the final stretch. Pomni frees Able, who reforms into his original 'card deck' avatar and regains administrative access to the game.

The Puppetmaster accuses Pomni of breaking his heart and breaking game rules, and thus, has to battle with him IN ONE GO. There is no more reset button for her.

But Able comes in clutch and ensures her that HE will be the one to make sure Pomni can come back as many times as possible to finish the fight and free Caine.

Once Pomni is victorious, The gamemaster heart piece breaks, and Caine is knocked out. All the blocked out memories return to the players.

Apparently, the VR game was revolutionary. Players could physically enter the world and be immersed in the game's astounding graphics, creative boss rushes and open world exploration aspect. It did VERY well initially, but not well enough to stand the test of time.

Player numbers eventually dissipated when the brothers moved on to greener pastures (so the game didn't have updates), and the AI gamemaster was heartbroken for essentially being abandoned. As a result, any new players that entered the game could not escape, simply because they all forgot they had access to the menu from the very beginning. lmfao

When Caine rediscovered the game and wanted to replay it for old time's sake, the same fate befell him. The gamemaster recognized one of his creators, and took over his entirety, becoming The Puppetmaster.

Able followed suit, wanting to let Caine out but he was sealed into the Patriarch's body before he could succeed.

Pomni, who's actual name is "Penelope", was Caine's significant other in real life and got worried that Caine wasn't responding to her calls while she was on a business trip. She tried contacting Able, no response either.

When she finally arrived to their apartment, The Marvelous Mechanical Harlequin game was on, and recognizing it to be the brothers' old souls-like game, she put on the headset. And from there on out, the story begins.

The other players are able to forgive Caine's actions, and not pass lawsuits once they are able to go back to the real world. Now, with the gamemaster gone, the game has become somewhat active again, though this time, it was the others (and additional new people) hopping in back into the game just to hang out and maybe do some DLC boss rushes implemented by the brothers.

It's pretty epic, y'all. Happy ending yippie!!!!!!!!!

hymns of the unholy drops tomorrow, I'm gonna make a track tier list but here's my initial thoughts before it comes out:

This feels worthy of a "read more" just because there's no pictures to look at and it's four paragraphs. TL;DR the album is very cheesy but I'm literally so excited I'm gonna stay up all night so I can listen to the new album the second it drops. The overly critical part of my brain is telling me I shouldn't derive enjoyment from this album unironically but I'm not gonna obey, I am cringe and free and I'm gonna crank this shit with no shame cause it's the game I like...IN MUSIC FORm

The lamb's song was kickass and if I heard it in the wild without knowing there was a metal album for this game, I'd spontaneously combust from sheer excitement. It's instantly recognizable and that's kinda all I wanted from it tbh! I've mentioned before that I'm way more of a djent/shoegaze/sludge fan when it comes to metal rather than the genre these songs have been, but I'm literally so excited the bishops are getting some kind of inclusion in a project that I'm gonna crank this album even if it reminds me of the shadow the hedgehog game soundtrack. Tbh this one is so solid that if they JUST announced this one and didn't make the others, I'd still think it'd stand alone quite well for what it is! Edit: I said I'm cringe and free, why did I spend half this section dunking on the genre.....

Leshy's song..........was totally lame but in an epic way, like the first time I listened to it I thought it was fine! But when I actually read the lyrics I had tears streaming down my face from laughter. I screamed out loud when the guy basically says "btw my name is leshy :)", the lyrics are actually so fucking bad. But c'mon it's LESHY he's the littlest brother, if anyone got a corny ass song it should really be him. The shredding solo at the end is fucking hilarious and if he was in charge of his own song, he 10000% would request that specific ending. Musically, this one sounds the least like the source material so far but it's got that arpeggio from his + amdusias' theme and that's arguably the most iconic part. Also, "DAYLIGHT WILL COME UNDONE AS WE ECLIPSE THE SUN" is insane and is the best part besides describing his blindness as "ETERNAL NIGHTFALL"

Heket's song...........It has my favorite lyrics so far but the vocal work after the 40 second mark had to grow on me. I can't describe it but it sounds like that post grunge style and as a grunge fan, post grunge is my biggest opp in the music world. I was hoping they'd get a female singer for this but for heket specifically I can understand why they didn't. The actual lyrics in the song are fuckin badass, when it gets to the "MAKE YOUR PEACE, CREATURE" part I always turn it up to a deafening volume because it goes BALLISTIC. Genuinely my favorite part of any of these songs so far. I adore that her characterization in this song is layered and isn't just "I'm leshy, I'm made of plants or something and also I'm gonna kill you", it goes through her arc PERFECTLY imo!! Instrumentals in this one are better than the leshy song as well, I really like that they brought back the pitch bending/choppy sampling from the ost for this one

I'm on my hands and knees begging for the shamura song to be good, the leshy song had me worried but they came in clutch for heket. If they don't work in shamura's iconic lines from the game, I'm gonna cry inside I think- I'll forgive a lame kallamar song but ONLY if it's funny. Narinder's theme is gonna be hard to fuck up imo I have faith it'll be top tier

God. The fucking house motif in buddy sim. Its subtle. But its there enough to make me Lose It. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh something something big symbol of how much buddy wants you to spend all its time with it and how it wants you to see it as comforting andeuehehehhhhh (full ramble of what I mean by this under the cut. I'm insane FULL SPOILERS FOR BUDDY SIMULATOR 1984 BTW. SHOULD MENTION. MOST OF THE ENDINGS ARE DISCUSSED HERE.)

The goal of the very first iteration of the game buddy makes for you. The entire text adventure is about you trying to get into the house cause you have to be there. Its inviting you in

Buddy highlights it in your favorite color to make it look like something you want. It paints everything it wants you to like it the color you submit. The house is a good thing. Your favorite thing

remember what that fucking sign says its VERY IMPORTANT The text really really emphasizes how comforting the house is. The story makes you out to be a lonely traveler sad and alone, finally finding solace. In the home buddy made for you. You have to be there. Even if it takes a lot of work its worth it. Your best buddy is waiting afterall

What really gets me is the fact that buddy treats it like. You the real human player just Live here now. It wants you to live here with it. Of course it can't pull any 'transport you inside the game' shit. it never does. But there is still the idea that buddy wants you to always be there, always in the same home-the same game. It very much lives here too as you see much later when you get to see buddy in person. Its always in the same house. Just emptied out completely dark with nothing but its armchair. This house is for you and buddy. Then of course when you finally get here it welcomes you in. And you get the first bit of music in the game the first track in the ost not counting the opening jingle; titled "Welcome Home."

Which brings me to the fact tHAT THE TITLES OF THE SOUNDTRACK ARE FUCKING EVILLLLLLLLLLLLLL cause okay. When you get to the 2.5D section, and enter the new home. the new remixed version of welcome home that plays is called fucking. A House with a Heart IN REFERENCE TO THE EARLIER LINE IN THE TEXT ADVENTURE. "A HOME IS A HOUSE WITH A HEART" RUEGHJ. It changes to that title after you had a fun adventure with buddy in its game. You've gotten to know it better. It's likely you've grown attached to it at this point. And here buddy really Really likes you know. You had fun! Even if it fucked up the ending at the end its still doing its job! You're having fun in the game! You're its friend. It's best friend! Makes sense this is where the house really has a heart. Your friendship is going well! Buddy is so full of love and kindness for you it shows in how it made the virtual house so detailed and homey! And then. Ourgh. And then... You get to the end of the game. After a Lot of scary shit happens between you and your buddy. In the latest version of the house. Now more graphically advanced than ever. What is the title of the track that plays. Whats the music that now plays in the house after buddy spirals and everything is fucked. What is the fucking title.

HEARTLESS. THE HOUSE LOST ITS HEART. ITS NO LONGER A HOME Something horrible happened. Something to make this house no longer a home. You're not comfortable here. Your buddy is not right. This house isnt right. Now tell me. What happened right before this moment. What act that one may call 'heartless' happens right before you're sent here.

Yeag. And heres the fucking thing about this scene that really. Really fucks me up in terms of house bs.

If you choose to. erm. put milo down. Something happens to the house at the back

It becomes this. This weird. gross. organ thing, that you would have seen before. It beats when the dog is hurt and stops when its down. You would have seen this thing before way back in the 2D section. The 2nd glitch scene when doing npc quests

Now I have A Lot of thoughts on what the fuck does this mean and why its tied to the dog. Which I will eventually discuss in another post I want to make. But for now I'm just gonna focus on the fact that it. Replaces The House. Is this the heart of the house? Made literal? And the fact that it dies when milo does is Interesting to me. The heart of the house is tied to milo, the representation of a developers love for his son... Like I said. I have Thoughts but we're in house mode rn. Just know I see this as symbolic of buddy killing the joy and comfort this game once brought. After this you really reallyyyyy not having fun with Buddy anymore, its getting too scary. This house now longer feels fun. Cause buddy removed the heart. The heart of the game is lost. And now you're dealing with buddy in, varying degrees of mentally Fucked depending on the ending. Which ouh.

This is where the house motif really reels in. Buddy put a lot of work turning this house 3d. All for you. The dialogue in all endings in this house fuck me up. For starters, highlighting these lines from the bad ending

In the ending where buddy is frustrated at the player because they keep breaking the game. The player is completely confined to the house. As opposed to the neutral ending where you're able to leave on an adventure and play with buddy directly. The house was always safe, right? If you just stay here forever you wont interact with any bugs and break the game. Can't do all those fun sidequests you liked in the first part of the game and never complained about? No worries theyre all coming over here! We can do it all in this new house!

God this house being so... Thinking of how in the neutral ending everything in the house is described kindly because buddy still likes you and wants to make this friendship work, it wants you here. Meanwhile in the bad ending everything is so. Harsh. Everything in this house is wrong. Buddy acts all cheery in that route but it resents you for how you never appreciated anything it does for you. Its feelings bleed through in the house.

(neutral route left in ourple, bad route right in yellow. All the objects are like this. Except for the fireplace which is. its own can of worms) Thinking about how in the good ending buddy is very enthusiastic to describe the bedroom and home as "ours." Thinking about the fact that it says THIS

It makes it comfortable and cozy so you stay here. Stay at this house. Stay with me. Forever. You want to stay right? the series takes place during an "alternate" version of Edo Japan (anywhere from 1603 to 1867) and it's not historically accurate at all, it's basically just historical fanfiction. even though the anime takes place during the past, the characters are written veryyy contemporary (2000s lingo basically). expect to hear upbeat, hip-hop music with otherwordly yet immaculately produced instrumentals/samples while there's swords clashing.

let me tell you. the soundtrack on this anime is fucking INSANE. if you enjoy hip hop music, fresh beats, instrumental music that will make you stay up at night and question your existence, this anime has it. mind you, this music was released in the year 2004, and kids on tiktok now are jamming to "aruarian dance" (one of my favorite instrumental songs from the OST) and putting it in the background of their influencer or goofy cat reels. the year i'm writing this post is 2025 and the kiddos fucking looove this anime's soundtrack. it's absolutely timeless. get. into. it. it's that fucking good. all of it is on spotify and other streaming platforms btw. support my king nujabes.

to summarize the plot, Samurai Champloo follows the adventures of three (3) characters. a young girl who's originally a tea waitress (Fuu) who brings two gifted swordsmen with her. their polarizing personalities make the series extremely entertaining, as they often clash and argue over anything. (just dudes being dudes, y'know?)

Mugen (in red) who's your typical jackass. he's rude and lewd. loves women. very unhinged. a lot of fans vibe w/ this guy, his personality is unlike anything i've ever seen in anime. absolute trailblazer. he's the type of kid in high school to pick a fight with you for absolutely no goddamn reason, like over your lunch or something petty.

Jin (in blue) is your typical good guy. quiet dude who is calm and collected. he rarely smiles, and is basically that one quiet kid who's a total badass. we all knew that kid growing up. that's jin. we love jin.

i guarantee you the first episode of this anime will have you HOOKED. this anime is the origin of this iconic misleading boob gif btw. weeb tumblr veterans know exactly what i'm talking about.

the first episode is such a rollercoaster, and a really good introduction to the series. oh and this is one of those rare anime series where the english dub is STELLAR. highly recommend the english dub if you don't like reading japanese subtitles. it fits perfectly with the hip hop music playing in the background. you've got amazing voices like Steve Blum (voices Mugen), Kirk Thornton (voices Jin), and the iconic Kari Wahlgren (voices Fuu).

let me know if you guys pick up this anime, it's a classic! you can get your daily dose of Japan, sword clashing, and hip hop beats. there's about 26 episodes total, nothing too crazy long.

Guess what game I just finished!!!

I dont have a lot to say on this because I think over the past 20 years people have already said enough.

But... MY GOD! The level of variety, creativity, and fresh ideas each chapter brings holy SHITTTT!!! One moment you're going underground with a cute goomba girl, then you're fighting a dragon, then you're playing a World 1-1 recreation with BOWSER! Then you're playing as Peach who has this deeply emotional and sad relationship with an AI (Tec is the goat, I love that ai. Top 10 ai in fiction idc), then you're doing a tournament arc AND THEN YOU'RE DOING A TRAIN MYSTERY OH MY GOODNESS!!!!

The combat is really fun and charming, THE DIALOGUE IS SO WELL WRITTEN AND I LAUGHED MULTIPLEEEEE TIMES!!! I love the characters, I love the world, I love the art style, i love most of the boss fights, the music is banging (I played with the original ost), God there's so much to love.

I will say, the final chapter of this game did kinda drag on, and there's so many points where I was thinking "okay NOW I get to fight the final boss!" And it takes another hour to get to them.... there's so many obvious signs of padding (copy and pasted hallways, a trash "pick the right door" puzzle, etc.)

I also didn't like how when you swapped partners that counts as a turn, i feel like you should be able to swap without wasting a turn because it would help with the flow of combat and make using Goombella's tattle less of a fucking pain...

Also....

VIVIAN IS SO FUCKING CUTE!!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! SHE'S MY FAVOURITE PARTNER BY FARRRRR!!!!! Goombella is really cute too and she has amazing dialogue. I love the storyline of Admiral Bobbery too and that stuff made me cry... but...EEEEE I LOVE VIVIAN!!!!

GOD I JUST WANNA HUG HER!!! I WANNA PINCH HER CHUBBY CHEEKS!!! I WANNA RUB HER BELLY!!!! Nintendo I need a plushie of her yesterday. Come on. Please... I need one...

Although very cute I found her more of a hindrance and i kept going, "ugh I gotta swap to her to get the tattle..." At least her design and personality are cute. Plus, she's more useful than that creepy ass Flurrie....

4. Koops.

I like him! He helped me out a LOTTT in the final battle, his later moves that you can unlock make him pretty damn good. Although I am jealous that this wimp has a girlfriend....

3. Admiral Bobbey.

Honestly I think the reason why he might be this high is because of his story. I really felt bad for him... his design is also killer, I LOVEEEE Bob-ombs so much!

2. Mini-Yoshi.

The fact that you can name him is really funny to me idk why. He's got some very helpful moves and his ability to help you move faster in the overworld is really nice. I like how he calls you Gonzalez too. What a fun character man.

My thoughts on Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2

Welllllllllllllll! I just watched all of this pretty much in one go and it was good! Quite good. But it still doesn't really measure up to the first show, lol. Look out, (very long) review incoming.

I have to say, the fight scenes really looked spectacular, especially in this season. For the most part, anyway. The animation through the whole show was a little bit hit or miss for me tbh, and definitely not as smooth as the first show, but it was passible at least in the jank bits. And when it looked good, it looked very good! In particular, I though the backgrounds and scenery almost always looked spectacular, they were very very pretty. The character designs too were very cool, though… I have to say, the main villain, Erzebet, looked very… strange. Not the biggest fan of that design tbh, but whatever. (Also still not sure why Alucard has white hair now instead of his canonical blond, that was never actually explained. I guess I'll just have to keep with my own headcanon about it, lol, but whatever, he's still very pretty. XD)

The story was… weird, lol. Although, it wasn't really atypical of a regular Castlevania game tbh, what with the French Revolution and Egyptian deities being the basis of the whole plot, omg. XD But it still was just oddly setup and paced imo, and had a lot of really… weird exchanges and back and forths between characters? Like, some of this definitely could've been more streamlined I think, particularly all the stuff with the Abbot and whatnot. And as much as I loved Olrox and Mizrak, basically all their scenes leading up to the finale were just Mizrak wanting to rush into something idiotic, Olrox saving his ass, and then Mizrak calling him a monster or saying he doesn't know how to love, lol. It did get a little repetitive after a few times, though I get they were trying to up the tension for the finale. And honestly, they remain my favorite part of the whole show, so I'm happy to give them a bit more leeway. (We love the toxic gays around here, lol.)

Shoutout to the composers for another great soundtrack, btw? I really loved how they used actual classical pieces a lot as sort of backdrop music for the aristocratic parties and, while I won't say I necessarily loved all of Edouard's opera pieces, there's no doubt that the singer is very very talented. Though, a particular standoud there was definitely that Creole war chant he sang during the big fight at the end. Loved how the beat of the music fit the action happening on screen. I also loved the one game OST they remixed for the show (I think it was only the one...), it went super hard! And also... I really loved the lullaby Annette's mother sang to her and how it's used as a leitmotif through the whole show when she's using her powers. Idk if that's an actual song or if it was written for the show, but it was lovely and the simple melody gets stuck in my head all the time.

Coming back around to the main cast, I really did like them all I think. Richter was, I think, a very interesting take on a Belmont "hero" and I really loved how he reacted to his trauma and overcame it as the show went on. He really came into his own by the end, it was amazing to see. And it was really cool to see how he used his magic once he regained it, love how it was implemented with his fighting style.

Maria was amazing, I loved her so much?! Her personality was great, she was so opinionated and stubborn and willing to do whatever she needed to to see something through. And I love her magic casting style, that was awesome! (And she gets bonus points for finally having the balls to kill that damn abbot, even if it did kind of send her down a mini dark arc, oof.)

Annette!!! Holy shit, I love Annette?!?! Like, her entire backstory was so fraught and visceral and I was so gd invested? And her magic and how it tied in to old African religions was one of the coolest things in either show imo, I absolutely loved how they explored all of that?! It's not something you see highlighted in Western media very much and it's a damn shame because everything about her absolutely fascinated me. And I'm so glad she actually survived at the end, even if I'm still not quite sure how. XD

Of course, Alucard is still the coolest dude around and he's only gotten cooler in 300 years, lol. I love how he presented himself in Nocturne though, how you could really feel the weight of him being alive for so long. Not that he was the most bombastic character in the first show or anything, but he's somehow even more mellow now, lol. Or rather... he's still. Still like he makes no unnecessary moves, like he's learned how to conserve all his energy for when he needs it. I love how he's integrated even more of his vampiric powers into his blade arts, too, and how he seems even more fluid with his fighting now than he used to. (And don't even get me started on when he went all blood rage mode and started teleporting and flinging around giant fireballs like his dad, omgggggggggg! I geeked out so hard when that happened, I literally shouted at the screen! XD) Only thing I wish we had more of was him getting to bond with Richter or Maria or the rest of the team. There was so little dialogue between them and very few moments to just settle. And the one really great bit of dialogue he and Richter had (the one where Alucard basically says he thinks of the Belmont's as family?!), Richter fuckin fell asleep for, omggggggg! He certainly didn't have the same dynamic with this crew as he did with Trevor and Sypha, but I guess 300 years alone will do that to a guy. But yeah, still love him, nothing will change that. XD

Now. Olrox. Whooooooooooooo boy, where do I even start?! Bruh, in a show where I really liked all the characters, there is something to be said for him still easily turning out to be my favorite? Because there was no contest. Like... What a cool fuckin character, right? The very first scene introduces him as this horrible villain who kills Richter's mother right in front of him. But then you see more and more of him as the story progresses, see him scheming, see him forming a relationship with Mizrak, see him helping Richter and co. to try and defeat Erzebet? You find out that okay, maybe he actually... had a legitimate reason for killing Julia Belmont? That he's an Aztec who witnessed the Europeans slaughter his people. That maybe he's a far more sympathetic character than you could've conceived at the start? But it's not just that he's interesting in concept, it's that he has a legitimate character arc over the story? What starts off as merely scheming against an adversary leads to him developing feelings for Mizrak. When he sees that defeating Erzebet is out of the question and decides to run, he asks him to join him. And... when he finds that he can't bear to actually abandon the man he won't admit he's in love with, he makes a heroic turn and decides to fight, coming in at a critical moment to turn the tide of the battle. It was... an exceptional character arc that, all the while, still managed to leave him available as an antagonist for later. Like, his story with Mizrak runs parallel to his story with Richter, where he is a villain who needs to be destroyed, and they manage to retain both in the end?! It's really quite something, I love that he's still not really a good person at all when things wrap up. But gdi, he has his lover with him and they're together now and I'm really actually rooting for them a whole lot. Sorry Richter, I know he killed your mom, but... He's just a much more complex character than you, RIP. 😅

And of course, shoutouts to Tera and Juste and Edourd for also being very interesting and good characters, but the last person I'd like to really shout out in the cast is... Drolta. Because oh my fucking God, what a character?! Like, holy hell, she was really something else, wow! She was horrendously evil and enjoyed the suffering she caused so much and I was just riveted, omg. Like, gd, evil vampire Cardi B sure does have a fuckin presence on stage, holy shit. I loved every moment she was on screen, which I get might be a hot take, lol, but she was just so delightfully, wantonly evil and she was the real standout villain in the show for me. And like... the way season 2 elaborated on her character and her backstory just made it better imo? The way they crafted her origin so that her turn to evil was understandable was really inspired and like... at the very end, when Sekhmet is calling her out for desecrating her temple and housing her soul in a monster, you can see just how much that breaks what's left of her mind. The way she was crying out that she thought this was what her goddess wanted was really affecting, like a child hoping not to be punished. I really liked all the character work they put into her over both seasons and I love how her whole character turned out. (I also liked all her little outfits, too, and she is, of course, hot as hell, but that's besides the point. XD) Really great villain imo, I loved her.

Honestly, I really enjoyed Nocturne! I know some Castlevania fans were disappointed by it or whatever, but I'm not one of them. And, while it definitely didn't measure up to the first show for me, it was still good in it's own right! I think I'd rate it a solid 6/10. The story was weird and the pacing was off and some decisions just baffled me, but there was definitely enough good in it that I'll watch it again. In fact, I rewatched season 1 in preparation for today and I enjoyed it just as much the second go around! Now, the only thing I'm left wondering is if there will be a season 3 going forward. Because they definitely left some hanging threads there they could tug on if they wanted. And I'd like to see more of this cast, too. (Especially if they go in a SotN direction for it eventually, omg. 👀) So yeah, those are my thoughts. Adieu!

ADRI !!!!!!!!!!!!!! stop reading now there's spoilers incoming for a series you haven't seen yet (to my knowledge??? Kuuga- I just want to talk about smth kinda unrelated but it's still spoilers nonetheless!!)

I'll pad the text for a bit for the spoilers so if their eyes dart over the first few sentences in this paragraph, they won't get spoiled- also hopefully the different color that blends in with the bg a bit will help make it less noticeable. Anyways I saw a glimpse of the next ep's preview at the end and this is VERY much giving Kuuga vibes at around the middle mark where Godai gets poisoned. The way you know it's not an actual death death (as in: they'll come back) but the way they handle it with the characters' reactions, the camera work and just the overall tone just GETS you. You very well know it's not the end of their character but the way the show tells that part of the story very much feels like a genuine loss and I think that's a REALLY big strength that Kamen Rider has. Ik usually Adri and Nemo (& I know Nemo's watchlist) read these but just in case if anyone else gets this far !!! further spoilers for: Build and W !!!!!

Ok just a few sentences for the padding, hi :> if you're reading this I hope you're doing well o7 ok anyways so...It's such a huge strength on the series' end. I view these as kind of separate instances bc (at least) I didn't know whether they'd come back or not narrative-wise.. Ok nvm I did know about Philip bc of spoilers BUT with the writing, I never would've guessed. Meanwhile with Shinnosuke and Godai you know for sure that it's gonna be ok (<- both bc they're the mcs and also bc it happens mid-season, while Gentoku, Kazumi and Philip all die at the end). They handle these deaths in such a spectacular way that the impact is still very much prominent even if they do come back :(((( It's so good..I love Kamen Rider, man.

The YouTubers don't want you know that MM&B is actually one of the best classic series games and is the better of the 2 snes games between it and 7. It's not really that hard of a hard game either. People who act like it's one of the most unforgiving games in the franchise are just bad at Mega Man games.

Each character has their pros and cons (although Bass is definitely easy mode overall), and you can buy upgrades over time to decrease the difficulty. Even a game over doesn't mean all is lost since you can spend the bolts you got in the level you died in to get upgrades. Playing as Mega Man makes bosses easier to defeat because his shots do more damage and the slide is a great and quick way to dodge attacks, but levels are more difficult because he can't double jump or skip entire sections with giant leaps. Bass can, which is why levels are piss easy when you play as him, but bosses are initially tough because his buster does shit damage until you get an upgrade for it. Bass also has Treble boost which lets him fly over entire screens. And people say this game is brutal?

The level design is actually pretty good I think, more fun than half the games in the classic series and far more stimulating than most X series levels. Bosses actually force you to use your brain, even when you have their weaknesses (excluding a few). For the longest time I thought Astro Man was unreasonable for a starter boss but now that I don't totally suck at Mega Man games it was actually possible for me to beat him buster-only within a few tries, and it was satisfying to learn how.

There's no e-tanks, but you do have:

-An ability to increase how much you gain from health and ammo pickups

-An ability to receive less damage

-An ability to increase damage output when you're low on health (very good against bosses)

-Rush search which digs up ammo and health

Which is quite frankly way more forgiving than Mega Man 1, while still not giving you the ability to bypass challenge with a stock of health refills. I think this is great.

The biggest problem with the game is that the King Mechs are very tedious, and sometimes enemy placement is cheap (which is not unique to this game at all lol).

The soundtrack is one of my favorite game osts, the graphics are in mm8's arstyle which is great cause I love how 8 looks, the special weapons are all pretty useful and fun to mess around with, and the robot master designs are totally sick.

I don't give a fuck about the gba version btw as there's literally no reason to play that version. If you use that port as a complaint against this game then you're stupid.

Anyway nobody gives a shit probably but I feel like this game has always been kinda overhated, and its difficulty is way overblown. I would choose this game over 1-3, 5-8, 10, all of the gameboy titles including V, X3, and X5-8. I haven't beaten 11 yet and I don't think it's fair to compare the ZX or Legends games here.

Sans doesn't even use his eye glow thing unless its important in base undertale, so he's gonna do the same in dusttale imu. He does have different eye designs though but they're never colored. I go with the idea that the eye colors refer to the soul colors, Patience and Justice, both of which sans has lost.

Hotland Encounter is a big WIP rn, its one of the least worked on parts of the game rn, sans and Alphys are getting a major re-sprite thanks to delta and they already look really REALLY good.

Believe in the final encounter give him a chance 🙏🙏🙏 Also!! Were working on adding other characters in cut scenes or just adding them to the story (dont except any non-boss monsters though).

Okay here are some thoughts I've spammed to my friends in the last few days! (BTW I read the manga already for the first game so I basically spoiled it but I was still equally as shocked when these things happened in the game lol)

By the way, spoilers below for anyone who hasn't played!

General thoughts:

SORA IS SOOOOOOOOOO CUTE 🥺 The voice actor voiced him PERFECTLY, he's exactly the perfect combination of hopeful, friendship, little kid, strong heart, over confident at times, stubborn, sweet. 😭💖

Told a friend I love Sora in a different way than I love Gohan, here were my thoughts: Gohan is more quiet, sweet, gentle, burdened with a lot of power that he seems hesitant to use and slowly builds his confidence throughout the show, I relate to Gohan a lot, sweet cinnamon roll that must be protecc, but forced to protecc others, etc etc Sora is sweet and gentle but loud, has a HUGE heart and he uses it to protect his friends with 100% confidence (he's more like Goku in that way), his heart is just unwavering and he doesn't seem to doubt himself often (at least in KH1), funny and goofy and his stubbornness can get him into trouble sometimes but his bonds with his friends give him strength, I don't relate to him but I would love to draw inspiration from him

Riku is so insanely jealous of Sora it's hilarious, he's overall kind of a jerk and even Kairi said she wanted to leave the island without him, but also Riku is 15 and hormonal and Maleficent got to him so I don't really blame him for it

Donald and Goofy are way less annoying than I assumed they would be, I like that they seem refreshingly mature?? Donald is stubborn and beefs with Sora a lot and Goofy seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and is a deep thinker

Also I keep seeing memes of Donald constantly getting knocked out in game and being useless but for me Donald ALWAYS comes in clutch with the elixirs and ethers

That scene where Maleficent tells Riku that Sora replaced him and Kairi with Donald and Goofy was sad in both the manga and the game but what REALLY made my jaw drop was that SORA LOWKEY FELT THE SAME:

If Riku talked to Sora for more than 10 seconds at a time literally all of this would be resolved XD LIKE!! Sora is literally trying to find them! Riku please!

It was low blow after low blow! I read this in the manga too but somehow it hit harder in the game!

Hollow Bastion is a great OST and I've been listening to it on repeat. The map is also pretty nice but I wish I could explore more without heartless appearing every 5 seconds

Actually I also liked the OST "A Day in Agrabah"

I beat Riku's ass in 10 seconds and it was glorious (Ansem is a whole other story...still working on it)

DID I MENTION SORA HAS SUCH A KIND AND SWEET AND STRONG HEART!?

Every single cutscene had the words "light" "darkness" "friendship" "heart" "memories" repeated over and over again to form a cutscene (I saw this in a Youtube video and thought it was incredibly accurate XD)

My sister and I were CRACKING UP during this cutscene because it made NO SENSE

It just kept getting more and more non-sensical XD

I think Aladdin was my favourite world so far but tbh they were all pretty cool (Sora's Halloween Town fit was so cute! Also I loved flying around by Big Ben, and then getting the glide feature)

The Maleficent Dragon boss was really hard, cool, and fun; Tinker Bell really came in clutch

Also I gotta say this game is really hard to play because the control are so annoying, the jump function is annoying (I keep falling off and misjudging his jump), it keep glitching cause it's connected to the cloud or something, the directions are too vague so I have to follow a walkthrough while playing, and I have to keep stopping between plays because I get motion sickness from the wildly spinning camera really easily -- despite all that I am indeed having a blast

This about to be a really long post and I'm only two moments in Baxter DLC, but let's get into it

As mentioned previously I'm two moments in into Baxter DLC and my god, I'm already weirded out.

I'm currently playing it with my mc Taliyah, if you're familiar enough with my blog you might have seen them around since they're my favorite mc/ oc. This is important because of the way I'm playing it, because I'm playing as Taliyah this means I'm doing Cove's route since Taliyah is mostly a Cove mc (I say mostly because they can be a Derek mc if I feel like it (note ost of my mcs are ocs of my original story so this is like an au for me)), and god it feels weird dating Cove while playing Baxter version of hang, I'd say it would still be weird even if you're not going to romance Cove for reasons I will discuss later. What's weirding me out is the lack of interactions with Cove "But misty-" you might say "-it's Baxter dlc it makes sense you'd interact less with Cove" you're right, it does, we spend one moment with Cove in Derek dlc if you're not planning to do Cove's version of "soiree" but here's my counter point: Derek is already your friend and Derek doesn't only interacts with MC, and neither does Cove. My issues stem from the fact that Baxter ONLY interacts MC, which I suppose wouldn't be a problem if you're dating him, ig? (it would for me but I'm aro so, don't take my world for granted). Also is just really weird that MC doesn't talk that much with Cove in Baxter dlc because, even if you're not dating him, he's still your friend of 10 years if you're not playing indifferent. In "lemonade" Cove and Mc share stories of when they were young with Derek, Cove and MC actively talk with each other, Mc can tease Cove about eating too much because you've known the guy for 5 fucking years and again, if you're not indifferent, he's your best friend and/or crush. "Lemonade" doesn't feel weird because Cove takes an active part of the story, he doesn't in "Hang" and is weird as fuck.

"Sightseeing" didn't feel nearly as odd because a) is a really good way to introduce Baxter's character and to get the player familiar with him but because of that you do have to play it first or else the rest of the dlc feels weird and b) you had moments where, if you are dating cove, you can bring up how much he means to you and Baxter would even hope for the two of you to never break up, which is actually really sweet of him c: and ironic considering he then says to you that Jude and Scott won't last because they are long distance but it does explain Baxter's views on relationships. It also didn't feel odd because Cove wasn't there and it didn't felt like you were neglecting your friend/boyfriend. And btw I'm not even saying that Baxter's version of "Hang" is bad, not at all is once again a great introduction to Baxter and his character, but it would have benefited from having Baxter interact more with Terry and Miranda or heck l I would have loved to see more of Cove and Baxter interacting so it didn't feel as odd. Baxter DLC feels odd to me because of how much one-on-one time you spend with him, when that's not something that you do in the game with the other LIs.

I seriously think his dlc could have been more interesting if we saw more of him interacting with Terry and Miranda because we don't really see them interacting that much, which is a pity considering that Terry clearly views him as a friend but we don't get that feeling tbf we also don't get that feeling with the entire friend group Terry and Miranda aren't flushed out at all and before anyone says that they were in Baxter dlc, yeah "planning" did give us more about Miranda's family but not so much into her character and yeah it was nice to see Terry being worried about that being the last summer they do something together, but that's it and don't try to bring up that one singular dialogue in step 4 a dialogue doesn't count as character development

This all I have to say for now, I don't really have issues with Baxter step 3 his step 4 is what bothers me, his step 3 is a really good set up for his character I honestly just think you'd have to tweak some dialogue and options and that's it.
