The front door opens and Haru is about to call out a greeting when he catches sight of Rei talking on his phone as he shuts the door and kicks off his shoes.

“Please, tell me,” Rei says as he taps his shoes into place with his foot and almost throws his messenger bag into the closet.  “Do I get bonus points if I act like I care?”  

Haru blinks a few times before settling down onto the couch.  This should be good.  Rei is in a mood.  Haru can only wonder if it’s the kind that will taper off, all thunder and lightning and no rain, or if the house is about to be the eye of the hurricane, eerily still while the world crashes around them at the mercy of Rei’s rage.

“Okay no.  If I wouldn’t be selling my dick to the damn Devil to do it I’d happily fuck Sugawara six ways to Sunday and then some.  But even I have more self-preservation skills than Makoto.  And I willingly work with Momotarou and Ryuunosuke.  So that’s saying something.”

Haru snorts softly.  There are a lot of them that would happily fuck Sugawara six ways to Sunday and back.  But none of them want to deal with the combined forces of Tsukishima and Iwaizumi after the fact.  Except, apparently, Makoto.

“Him?  No.  Kou, honestly.  I don’t even have the time of day for that overly conceited fuckwit.”  Rei yanks off his jacket and stuffs it in the closet.

Ah.  He’s chatting with Kou.  That explains the lack of filter.  Rei spends so much of his time being polite and neat and put together that he rarely lets his guard down.  Kou is the only other person that Haru knows of that Rei has absolutely no filter around.  The only other person who knows just how filthy his mouth can be.

He glances at the other end of the couch and mentally shrugs.  Well.  She was the only other person.

“Kou.  I know you can take care of yourself.  But honestly.  Today?  He crossed a line.  Oikawa is a useless, cocksucking, gaseous feces filled skin sack.  With the goddamned intellect of a motherfucking toddler on a sugar high who just discovered their parent's secret stash of cocaine and mainlined that shit like a they were possessed by the spirit of Gluttony itself.”

“Wow,” Seijuurou breathes out.  He’s clearly trying to process all the words, to compare this Rei with whatever Rei is in his mind that he’s known the last few years.  “Okay.  That was.  Some strong language.”

Rei freezes in the doorway and glares at Haru.  Haru simply shrugs.

“Fuck me,” Rei bites out.  “No,” he adds into the phone.  “Not you.  Haruka apparently has company.  I’ll talk to you later.”

“Wow,” Seijuurou repeats as Rei ends the call.

“I am allowed to swear in my own home.”  Rei’s voice is as tense as his shoulders are when he crosses his arms and stares at them.

“Fuck yeah you are,” Seijuurou agrees.  “I just didn’t expect it to make me want to drop to me knees and blow you.  I get what Haru meant when he said your mouth is one of the things that does it for him.”

“Haruka!”  Rei’s glare zeroes in on him and Haru, once again, shrugs.  There is absolutely no remorse in his body right now.  He finds his boyfriend hot as fuck when he swears.

“Well it does,” he drawls out as he settles even deeper into the couch.  “You know I enjoy it.  No shame in that.”

“Okay but why were you even discussing that with him?”

“What the hell are we supposed to talk about when we're drunk and trying to ignore Nagisa and Momotarou making out two feet away from us?”  Haru glances at Seijuurou for support and gets it in the form of Seijuurou nodding eagerly.  “To be fair you’re the one who wandered off and left us alone at Iwaizumi’s that night.”

Seijuurou shudders.  “I do not need to see my brother's tongue in someone's mouth ever again in my life.”

“Fuck,” Rei whispers, clearly done with this conversation.

“I mean.”  Seijuurou glances between them.  “I’m down for it if you are.”

Rei blinks a few times, then sighs.  “What the absolute fuck is my life?”

“From what Haru says, full of really, really great sex.”  Seijuurou grins.  “Sex that I would totally be okay with participating in if you’d be amenable to that.”

It’s not anything they’ve talked about in depth but Haru can see Rei running it through his head, turning it this way and that, playing out all the angles.  Rei’s gaze slides from Seijuurou to Haru.

Then he smiles, syrupy sweet.

Looks like Rei’s rage is shifting into a long, drawn out storm, anticipation clinging to Haru’s skin like humid summer air; Haru’s favorite kind of storm to weather.

TRICK-OR-TREAT

Rei takes a deep breath and savors the night.  The last bonfire of the summer is crackling merrily on the beach nearby.  His friends are laughing happily.  The man he loves is sitting next to him with his head on Rei’s shoulder while he plays with the frayed edge of Rei’s sweatshirt.

The nights were growing longer and the days were growing colder but he wasn’t handling it as badly as he used to.  He used to hate this time of year.  Hate the way the darkness and coldness seemed to encroach on his life.

Haru shifts next to him and sighs.

“You’re thinking too much,” Haru mutters.

“Can’t help it,” Rei murmurs back.

Haru turns his head and Rei can feel the way Haru stares at him.  Can feel how Haru sees underneath his tired smile and just somehow knows exactly what Rei is thinking.  Haru lets out a huff and tugs at Rei’s arm until he slings it over Haru’s shoulder so Haru can snuggle up right against Rei’s side.

“It’s colder now.  But that means I get to steal your sweatshirt and you can borrow my scarves.”  Haru’s voice is quiet but clear.  “We get to bake snacks and hide under the kotatsu.”  Rei glances down and sees Haru staring at the bonfire with a small smile on his face.  “It gets dark sooner but that means we can curl up in a ton of blankets and watch the sunset and still have time to watch a movie before bed.  We get to put your favorite comforter on the bed and our favorite quilt on the couch.”

Haru pulls Rei’s arm across his chest and settles against him with a happy sigh.

“Thank you,” Rei says eventually.

Haru snorts softly.  “You may not love fall but I love you and together we can make it tolerable.  Right?”

Rei squeezes Haru and nods.  “You make everything better.  Even if it’s something I already enjoy.”

Haru hums and wriggles just a little and Rei watches the fire crackling as he listens to his friends soft chatter nearby, Haru a warm presence against his side in the cool night air.

“You know I love you too,” Rei says eventually.

“I know you.”  Rei doesn’t have to look to know Haru is smiling.  “So of course I know you love me.”

“Good.”  Rei presses a kiss to Haru’s hair.  “Good.  Because I do.  So incredibly much.”

Haru turns his head and meets Rei’s lips with his own and Rei sinks into Haru’s warmth, not even pulling away when Rin lets out a loud whistle at them and Nagisa starts giggling.  Why would he ever want to pull away from the warmest part of his life?
