Secret Santa for @Carxby
This Christmas I ended up writing a small drabble for my wonderful giftee Carxby. I’m a huge HaruMiha fan so I was so excited to get this prompt!
I hope you like this short little drabble!
Fandom: Ōkiku Furikabutte
Pairing: Haruna/Mihashi, Abe/Mihashi (one sided)
Rating: PG
Haruna doesn’t understand it- the tightness in his chest when he sees the two of them together. It takes time, something that he finds more of as he lies awake long after everyone else is sleeping. He stares up at his ceiling, blinking away racing thoughts and stirring feelings that are like a hurricane in his throat. A storm of words wants to get out, cold and harsh, threatening to flood all who stand in the splash zone. His body is aching from practice, his brain tired from a long day of lessons. Still somehow sleep can not find him. It goes on for weeks until self awareness slams into him like a truck.
Jealousy.
He remembers the casual way Takaya touches his new pitcher. It stirs something ugly inside of him. It’s casual, it’s friendly, it’s expected. After all, a battery is better when the two people are close. Not like how he and Takaya were, more like how he is with his new pitcher. The tall, gangly teen whose limbs look too long and awkward for his body. He looks at Takaya like he’s the moon and when Takaya looks at Mihashi, well it's like he sees stars.
The sheer awe in those huge hazel eyes is so clear that it’s sickening. Mihashi likes Takaya, more than just a pitcher and more than just a friend. No matter what Haruna tries to do to silence the little voice in his head, he can’t stop it from screaming in outrage.
Well who could blame him for being possessive over the catcher he created?
The next time he sees the blonde turn red under Takaya’s attention he knows to expect the rush of anger and jealousy. Being prepared helps and makes things easier. Well at least for a short while. Nishiura isn’t a team they run into often. They're more like passing ships really. Their games are far apart but not so much so that he has free time to go see them play.
The next time he runs into Takaya there’s a girl across from him. They’re holding hands with their fingers laced together. Haruna waits for the familiar barrage of emotions. The hard punch to the gut which is envy, quickly followed by her twin, wrath.
Nothing happens.
He stares after their figures long after they’ve walked past him. Neither of the two spotting him from his position on the corner walk way. Takaya looks different, older, more mature. It’s only natural for him to find a girlfriend. For him to start a relationship. A feeling of unease swirls in his stomach and he thinks of strawberry blonde curls and an open honest smile.
No longer able to hear their footsteps he heads in the opposite direction.
He isn’t looking for anything in particular. The air is crisp and clean and the sound of people enjoying the winter air is a perfect ambience for a day like this. The perfect backdrop for a date too. He wonders if the catcher is on his first one, or if this is one of many. He flexes his fingers in his pocket remembering the way Takaya had his hands locked with the girls. He himself has held hands before of course- but most girls complained. The roughness was attractive in theory but never later on actual dates. Did the catchers mitt keep Takaya hands soft and more pleasant?
He’s broken out of his thoughts by the sound of warbling in the distance. It’s demanding and loud enough to pull him out of his head and into the moment. Ahead he spots some poor guy being bullied by the ducks at the pond. The small little birds are quacking and chasing the guy until he’s scared enough to drop the bag of crumbs. He’s speeding up before he can help himself. The person falls to the ground and the ducks, distracted by their new bounty, do not pursue.
He doesn’t recognize him until they are mere feet away.
Mihashi’s face is blotchy and red from unshed tears. His form trembles, probably from the scare the mother duck gave him. Haruna’s heart races. There’s a rush of- something that he can’t pin down. He should hang back and think, give himself a moment to understand the way his stomach is twisting into knots. He knows that he needs to. But his feet don’t seem to get the memo. He’s walking over to him before he can think better of it.
When Mihashi finally notices him he turns and those breathtaking hazel green eyes are looking at him. Haruna’s heart leaps in his throat. His mouth goes dry with the amount of moisture heading to his palms. He’s stupidly speechless as he looks at the other pitcher in his winter clothes. The brown coat fits well with a belt that wraps tightly around the waist. His scarf looks soft to the touch much like the windswept locks that are sticking up every which way, his ear muffs do little to flatten them down.
He swallows but the lump in his throat doesn’t go away.
“ Ha-Haruna? “
He feels fixed into place. The sheer clearness of Mihashi’s gaze, even from a distance, is too much. He stands awkwardly, the sound of the ducks quacking gleefully at the other pitchers back is the only thing filling the silence. Haruna opens his mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. He has nothing to say but turns out the younger boy does.
“ Did- Did you run into Takaya? “
It’s a loaded question. At the mention of the catchers first name something ugly curls inside of him. He doesn’t know when the two got so close. Never before has he heard them be so casual with each other. He’s familiar enough with the jealousy to look outside of it and take in the pitchers expression and body language again. Suddenly Haruna has the feeling that the other’s tear damp eyes have nothing to do with the ducks at all. He doesn’t answer, at least not immediately.
Mihashi doesn’t move to get up from the ground. He just waits and stares. Haruna finds it unnerving how much those eyes seem to search.
Finally, reluctantly he shrugs. There’s no point in lying.
“ Yea- I saw him. He looked busy though so I didn’t bother him. “
Mihashi doesn’t say anything, just looks away down at the ground. His figure seems to shrink on itself more than usual. The broken silhouette makes Haruna’s chest tighten.
“ Where did you get the feed from?“
He doesn’t know where the thought comes from. He just can’t bear to see the other pitcher so defeated for another moment. It works, slightly- just enough to straighten his back and get his attention. Haruna averts his eyes suddenly feeling shy; Not that Mihashi notices of course.
“ From the booth over there. “ He points a little too quickly and some of the few ducks picking about are quick to flap on the defensive. Haruna pushes forward to close the distance between them. He gets a firm grip on the pitcher’s jacket and hauls him up and away from the birds. They get closer and the tightness in his stomach bursts into flutters.
He feels nauseous and sick at the same time. He stares into gorgeous hazel eyes. Then quickly becomes stressed when he realizes he’s used the word gorgeous to acknowledge them.
He suddenly takes notice of how cute the freckles that dust the pitchers nose and cheeks are. The way his in awe gapping expression leaves his pink lips parted and every time he blinks long eyelashes touch his cheeks and then his eyebrows.
It’s a long time coming for him to realize that what he’s feeling is attraction. Not hot and possessive like he’s felt before, but softer, innocent and curious in many ways that he’s uncomfortable with.
For some unknown reason- he likes this guy.
Mihashi doesn’t say anything but a pink blush spreads on his face. He’s become more flustered by the moment, and Haruna in his new found awkwardness lets him go startled. They break eye contact quickly. Haruna tongue tied by his epiphany.
“ So- Sorry “
Haruna has no clue why Mihashi is apologizing. If anything he should be the one to do so. That is if suddenly having feelings for a rival pitcher warrants an apology. He tries to play the entire thing off, which is difficult with the way Mihashi keeps sneaking these timid little glances his way.
“S’cool. “
Before he can beat himself for his stupid answer Mihashi cuts him off.
“ Do you want a bag of crumbs? “
Not really but he also isn’t quite ready to leave. He needs to talk to Mihashi a little bit more. It’s a rare opportunity and might be his only chance to decipher the quivering mess his emotions are becoming.
“ Yea. Yea I do. “
The smile he gets from Mihashi makes his embarrassment more than worth it. Confidently, the pitcher leads him over to the booth where he willingly pays for two bags of feed. This time, when the two of them head back to the group of ducks no shenanigans take place.
The birds seem to know better than to try to bully him like they did to Mihashi.
Haruna snorts when the shorter pitcher hides behind him as the ducks draw closer. It takes time, several awkward attempts but soon Mihashi’s fear is swept away for active participation. He’s bold enough to stand shoulder to shoulder as he drops handfuls of feed for the ducks. All while making happy little laughs whenever they go for the food.
They bump shoulders.
It’s a lot, more than he’s ready for. Complaints die on his lips though as he sees the other boy smile.
He asks, despite a large part of him telling him not too.
“ Are you happy for him? “
He thinks he whispers it but the pitchers eyes snap to his immediately. Haruna’s breath hitches and his pulse races in his ears. A conflicted barrage passes over Mihashi’s face. His eyes darting about as they search for an answer.
Haruna doesn’t want to hear it. He wishes he could take back the words. Why didn’t he heed his own intuition for once? His new, fragile affection is too vulnerable for the answer.
Loudly his ego roars in his ears. It would be better to know now then to be left wondering. To be left wanting someone who clearly likes someone else.
As both his intuition and ego war, Haruna gets his answer despite his unpreparedness.
“ If Takaya is happy, I’m happy. “
It’s a messy answer but he can read between the lines enough to understand what he’s saying. However Haruna himself has always been a selfish person. He doesn’t know if he would have it within himself to be happy if Mihashi and Takaya got together. He rolls his shoulders back as a shiver goes down his spine.
It’s the first time he’s acknowledged these new feelings for what they are. The long developing signs of a crush. He pays a compliment before he can stop himself.
“ You’re a strong person. “
The pitcher's attention snaps to him so quickly he’s almost afraid Mihashi has hurt something.
“ Me?”
The wonder in those hazel eyes is strong enough that Haruna feels like he’s burning. He’s pretty sure he’s red to his ears. Hopefully the other boy thinks it’s because of the weather and not because of anything else.
He doesn’t follow up and just tosses more crumbs at the ducks. This time far enough that they race to the edge of the pond. They trip over each other and it’s a welcome distraction.
The silence between them kind of puts Haruna on edge.
“ You’re a nice person Haruna. “
It’s not the first time he’s heard the pitcher say it. In fact he’s pretty sure compliments have always freely come from Mihahsi. This time however it sends a very real hum of happiness thrums through him. Probably because this isn’t a compliment from Nishiura’s pitcher- but from the guy he likes.
His heart skips a beat at the thought.
“ You’re a pretty good person too Mihashi. “
He’s riding so high on the compliment he almost misses the murmur that falls from Mihashi’s lips. He turns to look at him and finds his eyes to the ground. He’s so shy and cute Haruna wishes he could touch him. Instead he distracts himself with the crumbs.
“ What? “
Mihashi squirms under the attention.
“ R-Ren you can call me Ren. “
It shouldn't make him so happy. It shouldn’t make his heart soar. But it does and he’s so full that he might just say or do something embarrassing. He looks anywhere else but at this completely adorably awkward boy at his side.
“ You can call me Motoki then. “
The protest that comes from the pitcher is equal parts cute and frustrating. Despite his resistance so far he can’t help grabbing him to stop the barrage of excuses.
“ Miha- “ He has to stop to correct himself. “ I want you to Ren. “
Haruna is sure he’s going to remember the pretty color the other boy turns for the rest of his life. He doesn’t understand the noises he makes, nor his expression but when he gets the little nod. It feels like a win.
He doesn’t realize he’s holding Mihashi’s hand until the younger boy looks down at their fingers. This time Haruna’s the one to blush. He immediately lets go and takes several steps back. Mihashi does a little half laugh that he quickly hides behind his crumb covered fingers.
It feels like… something. He can’t quite pin it down but the warmth in his chest spread through him and the cold winter day is a little less chilly. He can’t bring himself to look at Mihashi- no. Ren, he can’t bring himself to look at Ren. Mostly because he’s just so full of warmth he thinks it might spill out. It isn’t something he’s ready for or the other pitcher he’s sure. After all Ren for all of his kindness needs time to process his own feelings about Takaya. It’s something he himself can understand.
They stay at the pond long after their brown bags are empty and the ducks have swum off. They throw away their trash and make their separate ways all while Haruna avoids eye contact. He doesn’t get Ren’s phone number but he’s sure- later at a better time he will.
He walks home alone and a hundred moments flicker through his head. Things he could have done, things he should have done and more than anything things that happened. He’s through his door when he realizes the familiar jealously hadn’t been directed at Mihashi but in fact at Takaya.
He chuckles to himself and slides his gloves off. When his eyes catch the familiar groves and texture of his callouses he pauses. Ren’s hands are probably the same- if not rougher than his. A small shy smile plays across his lips. In fact, A fellow pitcher would probably think his hand feels pretty good.

Oofuri Rarepair Week - Day 2 - HaruMiha
Title: Second Chances
Rating:
T
Words: 829
Summary: Maybe in a another life, they could be happy.
A/N: For the prompt “reincarnation”! I haven't written in literally over half a year so I'm honest to god surprised I managed to spew out this mess for rareship week LMAO
Read on AO3!
Mihashi hated cemeteries. That was a fact.
They’re deceivingly beautiful, or at least the one he visits has always been. Lush green grass and trees scattered around on a gently sloping hill, a perfect illusion of happiness and peace. If he didn’t know any better, he might have thought it a paradise on earth, an eighth wonder of the world.
They were good from afar, but far from good, and Mihashi unfortunately had become very well acquainted with them over the last several months…
The flowers in his hands were handled delicately, as if being gifted to a lover, and in a way, that wouldn’t exactly be wrong. They would be, but perhaps not in the traditional fashion. Instead they would be delicately placed in front of a grey grave marker, respects paid and tears shed.
Mihashi found that the latter came easy, his thoughts wandering during the quiet walk down the path until tears began to pool in his eyes from regrets and heartache. He was still struggling to come to terms with the death of the love of his life, even half a year later.
His friends tried their best to support him, there with him every step of the way. They tried to comfort him and tell him it wasn’t his fault, and yet he couldn’t help it, couldn’t help lingering on the ‘what if’s and ‘maybe’s. Maybe if he had taken a little longer to find the keys it wouldn’t have happened. What if the cab had arrived a little later, would Haruna have missed his flight and been spared his untimely death? What if they had booked his ticket for a different airline? What if he had tagged along with Haruna for the trip and died with him, surely that would have been better than crying himself to sleep at night and making the miserable trip to the cemetery over and over again.
They should have been kissing each other goodbye every morning as he left for work and Haruna for school, coming back home at night to cuddle together with a movie. They would have been talking about the life they want to build together once Haruna graduated, about his potential baseball career as a pitcher. Messing around and bickering over their favorite teams as they watched the game that had aired earlier that day.
The flight should have been a good thing, what they had thought to be a blessing from above. The chances of Haruna having been contacted by an American scout seemed like one in a million, an absolute miracle that he was offered to try out to play in Los Angeles for when he graduated in a few months. They had stayed up celebrating that night, drinking until they ended up passed out in bed together with their clothes strewn across the room.
The next few weeks had been a flurry of excitement and stress as they prepared but… Mihashi would take it all back if he could. He’d rather have his boyfriend alive and at his side, even if it meant cutting off the best opportunity of his baseball career.
His heart ached as the flowers touched down upon the stone and his fingers traced over the engraved name, hitting home harder and harder with each character of ‘Haruna Motoki’ that he was never coming back. Haruna was never coming back, and there was nothing he could do about it.
Mihashi sniffled and hurriedly attempted to scrub the tears from his face; he didn’t want Haruna to see him as such a mess… quickly moving through his usual process of cleaning up and making the grave look nice before settling in to give his prayers and thoughts before leaving. The rhythm and familiarness of the routine helped, and he managed to calm himself down to a few sniffles so he could focus well on his prayers.
It was quiet as he did so, no one else really there, and for that he was thankful. He had something specific he wanted to say today, and though it was brief it was important.
He wanted to–no, needed to pray for their love. It was a heavy, tight feeling of desperation strangling him and wouldn’t leave unless he begged for it. For a better next life, a life where they could be happy together. No worries on whether they could be together, or if they were good enough for each other. Haruna would be alive, they’d be laughing, and nothing would be able to stop them from being happy together.
Maybe they’d meet as kids, playing baseball together. Maybe they’d meet in college when one of them bumped into the other. They could even meet on one of the online baseball forums Mihashi frequented, it wouldn’t even matter. All that mattered in their lives together is that they were happy, and this life wasn’t.
And so, he begged. Begged for another life together. Begged until he couldn’t beg any longer.

Summary: Conflicted about wanting to bring Haruna, his relatively new boyfriend, to the Christmas dinner and not wanting to make Akemi, his 7 year old son, uncomfortable. Single dad Mihashi has a tough decision to make.
If there was one thing that Haruna learned from working in the same team as Mihashi, it was to never underestimate a player by their appearance. He had learned that once they started working together as pitchers and he had dismissed the other because he didn’t look strong enough. Haruna had thought that he would never underestimate someone after watching the potential Mihashi had.
What started as friendship and rivalry before their season started, ended up into a confession and Haruna asking Mihashi for a date halfway through the season. As their relationship got more serious, by the end of the season Mihashi confessed to having a child, a small 7 year old. He explained that he didn’t wanted to introduced him until he was sure things were serious and despite feeling a little hurt, Haruna understood. When he asked about a mother, Mihashi had simply said that it was only them and she wasn’t in the picture.
Haruna had never felt so much respect for Mihashi than that evening when Mihashi explained things and they decided on a date to introduce each other. Mihashi wanted to introduce him soon since the holiday season was close and wanted Haruna to attend their dinner.
So they set the day, one of their few day off from practice to go have lunch at the park together. It was a place that the Akemi knew and was comfortable around. He specially loved the swings and playing catch with him, Mihashi had explained.
When the day came, Mihashi brought the food he cooked for them in a basket with a blanket and a baseball ball. They were suppose to meet there at noon to eat and then play in the park. It was all planned in detail. Mihashi wanted things to work and Haruna was excited (and terribly nervous because he had never been really good with kids) to finally meet the child.
Haruna arrived to the park where Mihashi was looking out for Akemi 10 minutes after, making a quick apology about traffic being really bad. Mihashi shrugged it off and then told him to sit down. A minute of silence as now both looked at the small blond child that was on the swings, Mihashi finally said. “Are you ready?”
With a reassuring smirked, Haruna nodded and then said, “I’ve been ready since forever.”
Mihashi gulped nervously, unsure but also really excited for them to meet. Haruna was a good guy and he was sure that Akemi would like him, eventually. He was slow to warm up to people, after all, just like he was when he was younger. His nerves must had been showing he mused as he felt Haruna’s hand give him a reassuring squeeze so he smiled up at Haruna and nodded.
“Akemi! Come here! I want you to meet someone!” Mihashi slipped his hand away from Haruna after calling his child. First he needed to introduced him, he didn’t need to know they were dating at that time.
Akemi, a lanky dark brunet with his father’s hazel eyes, quickly jumped from the swing and ran toward his father. When he noticed the other men, he took a shy step back. Even after being told to sit down with them so they could eat lunch, the boy remained wary and refused to sit down.
“This is Haruna Motoki,” Mihashi then said, “we’re in the same team. He’s a pitcher too!”
Haruna extended his hand to shake with the most welcoming smile he could muster. After his father’s encouragement, Akemi slowly and shyly extended his hand and held Haruna’s. He didn’t even shook it properly before he quickly took it back.
The boy then slowly sat down, close to his father, on the opposite side of Haruna. He remained quiet, his feet close to his chest, wrapped around his arms.
The rest of the lunch was similar, despite Mihashi’s attempts to make them talk Akemi only said a few words to Haruna. After a couple attempts he decided to not push the boy and they ate in almost silence. Haruna and Mihashi making small talk once in awhile to fill the silence and maybe show Akemi that Haruna wasn’t a scary men.
Once they finished, Mihashi suggested them to play catch to lighten up things and hoping his child felt more comfortable around Haruna. He wasn’t expecting them to get along quickly, after all Akemi was a shy kid, specially to strangers. Mihashi hadn’t been too disappointed on how things were going as it was going just as he expected. Haruna on the other hand, look disappointed that they hadn't clicked.
“Give him some time,” Mihashi said to Haruna soft enough so Akemi didn’t heard. “It takes him a while to warm up to people.”
Haruna nodded, surprised that Mihashi had noticed he was disappointed. Mihashi nodded too and gave him a reassuring smile to then follow his child toward the empty field where they were going to play. He had a rather big mitt on his hand and the ball on the other.
At first Akemi mainly kept throwing back to Mihashi, even though they were suppose to go in a circle, but slowly and surely Akemi looked more comfortable around him. Whenever Haruna talked to him, Akemi would answer with more than just a one word answer and he threw the ball back to Haruna more.
They continued throwing back and forth until the sun started to go down. It was then that Mihashi suggested them to stop for the day. Akemi complained once that they could continue just for a little bit longer that there would be lights on but Mihashi insisted for them to go back.
“He sounds exactly like you when the catcher tells you that it’s enough pitches for the day,” Haruna laughed when they started picking up their things.
Mihashi blushed, wanting to retort but being unable to because it was true.
Once everything was ready, Mihashi called for Akemi to come so they could go. Reluctantly he ran toward them.
“Say goodbye to Haruna, Akemi.” Mihashi said, pushing him just a little as encouragement.
“By-bye, Haruna…” He said after a brief moment of silence. After glancing at his dad once he then added while looking at the ground. “Thank you for...playing catch...with...me.”
Haruna smiled brightly and extended his hand for him to shake. “My pleasure! I hope we do this again.” He waited for a reply but it soon became obvious that none was coming. So he said his goodbyes and started walking toward his car on the opposite direction.
Mihashi and Akemi started toward the car in silence until it was broke by Mihashi. “So, did you had fun?”
Akemi noded but said nothing.
“How did you like Haruna?” Mihashi asked, trying to sound casual and not let his worry show. He wanted an honest answer and didn’t wanted to pressure him into saying he liked him if he didn’t.
Akemi remained silent for a while, thinking over his answer and then shrugged. “He was...alright..”
That made absolutely no sense to Mihashi but he didn’t ask for a clarification. Did he liked him or was it just not wanting to say he didn’t really liked him out of fear. Mihashi swallowed his worry and try with another question. “Would you like to play with him again?”
“I guess.” he replied, opening the door to the car while Mihashi threw everything on the back. Mihashi nodded and walked to the driver’s seat. He told Akemi to put his seat belt on, put his on and then started the car.
The ride back home consisted of Akemi talking about different things and MIhashi nodding to everything, every once in awhile commenting on something he said or humming as a way of reply. His mind however, was on his son’s answers, that didn’t helped him figure out how much he had liked Haruna and he was unsure of whether to schedule another day for them to talk or not.
Maybe one more time, he decided. The Christmas party was coming soon and as much as he wanted Haruna to come to it and have their first Christmas together, he wanted to make it was okay with Akemi. First he would have to suggest it sometime and see what he thought.
It was two days later, while Mihashi was picking him up from practice that he decided to suggest the idea. First he asked about his practice and how it had gone. Akemi instantly light up with happiness, telling him how he have had so much fun (like he always did), and told him it was hard but he was really enjoying baseball. Mihashi smiled softly at him and told him he was glad. He really was happy that he was having so much fun and enjoy baseball as much as he did.
Akemi continued on talking about practice and asking baseball-related question until they were halfway to their house. He was such a chatterbox sometimes, it was hard to believe how shy he got around people he barely knew. That thought seemed to remind him about Haruna so when the child finished telling him about his day he asked.
“So, you know how we’re having the Christmas party on the 25th, right?” He started tentatively.
“Yes! We’re having dinner and then I’m going to sleep so Santa can bring presents!”
Mihashi nodded and smile fondly at him. He had a plan for ‘Santa’ to come in and help him with the presents that night and leave some evidence for him to find. Akemi always sneaked out from bed despite his warnings to at least have a peak of Santa. There was always a friend who helped him by being Santa so Akemi could see both him and Santa and not suspect a thing and it had worked so far. However as Akemi became older, it quickly became harder to not get caught by the very clever boy.
“So, what do you think of my friend Haruna joining us this year?” He finally asked.
The car became quiet after the question, Akemi looking at him before looking at the car floor, unsure and nervous. He look conflicted, like he didn’t know what to respond. Like he didn’t know what the correct answer was.
“Only if you want to, sweetie” He added. “He doesn’t need to come if you don’t feel like it.”
“He can come, papa…” He finally said. But Mihashi didn’t felt any better with that answer. He didn’t sounded sure or comfortable. It just sounded like he was saying it to make him happy. And maybe he was being overprotective, but he never wanted to put his child on a uncomfortable situation much less on a special occasion where he wanted him to feel the happiest.
“Alright,” he said smiling at him. “We’ll see then.”
The conversation shifted again toward baseball and his practice in an attempt to ease up the mood. It was almost funny how much it had work. It seemed like there was nothing Akemi loved more than baseball and he felt so happy every time.
In his mind he thought how maybe bringing Haruna was not the best of choices. They had just met and the day was fast approaching. They haven’t even been dating for a year yet, maybe he was rushing things after all. This wasn’t something he could rush through, it had to be done properly.
He had been called overprotective many times, but he was doing the best he could and trying to figure out when it was appropriate to introduce the man you’re dating to your son was not something he thought he would have to do. After everything that happened, he never thought he would fall in love again and yet Haruna came around and thing started to get worryingly serious. So it only felt appropriate for them to meet. But Christmas was different and a special day and he didn’t wanted to take that away from Akemi.
‘So maybe next year’, he thought. Truth be told he was disappointed and sad, he wanted to bring Haruna over and have dinner with him. But he wasn’t going to dwell on that. They could always have another dinner with leftover Christmas food and it could be just as fun, he decided as he pulled over in his spot outside their apartment.
//
“I uh, I think he’ll be more comfortable...I mean, uh…We can eat dinner leftovers and it’ll be just as fun!” Mihashi finally said.
Haruna smiled and pulled Mihashi into a hug. “Sure!” And then softer he added, “I understand. It's okay.”
“I'm sorry.”
“Don't be.” Haruna smiled reassuringly.

Being the only child and having moved to another city to pursue his career, Haruna had nowhere to be that Christmas night. Not that he minded much, he wasn't a very festive person to begin with. And while he had been invited to a couple of his teammates Christmas parties after finding out he didn't have a party to go to, he had declined them all.
So that night, he bought some take out food and watched a movie after calling his family in and saying his greetings. ‘It honestly wasn’t so bad’, he thought shrugging.
It was two movies later that he woke up to his phone ringing. He groaned and sit up from his bed, stretching before he saw the caller ID. It was Mihashi. That seemed to wake him up more, as he answer the call curiously.
“You answer!” He said first. He sounded relieved and that worried him.
Before Mihashi could continue talking Haruna quickly asked, “are you okay? Is Akemi okay? What happened?”
“I’m fine...we’re fine...it’s just,” Mihashi paused and after taking a breather, as if to encourage himself to say whatever he was going to say, then continue. “It's just...I don't want to bother you.”
“Tell me.”
“I’m sorry. Just. The person that was going to come in to help and be Santa had an emergency and had to cancelled. And, and…”
“I’ll be there in 5.” Haruna quickly interrupted. “You have the Santa costume?”
“But!” Mihashi tried but was quickly hushed by Haruna. He asked one more time if he had the Santa costume to which he said no.
“I’ll figure out. Don’t worry.”
Haruna wasn’t entire sure but Mihashi sigh sounded as if he had taken a huge load off his back and he wondered just much he was shouldering on his own. He wouldn’t describe him quite as prideful, he was prideful, but even more than that he was stubborn. Stubborn to get things done on his own. To not ask for help even if he needed it. It was better than when they had first met, but Mihashi often shoulder more than he could take, believing he could take it all and not necessarily looking out for himself.
“I’ll meet you at your house in, uh, an hour. Don’t worry.”
After a paused Mihashi sighed again and then whispered such a heartfelt thank you it made his heart flip.
Half an hour later, Haruna realized that renting a Santa suit would be harder than he thought. What with being Christmas and everything. He asked friends, he called stores, went to stores and everywhere it was sold out or not available. But he had to do it, for Akemi. For Mihashi.
It felt truly like a Christmas miracle when he finally found a Santa suit that was too small on him but he made due with what he had. He texted Mihashi that he was coming over and after another thankful reply he dressed up and drove to Mihashi’s apartment.
Mihashi told him that he was just putting Akemi to bed and that by the time he arrived to his house he should already had tried to sneak back to watch Santa. It made Haruna smile, from Akemi’s imagination and belief in Santa to how much effort Mihashi put into the whole thing.
Since he didn’t live that far from where Mihashi lived, he arrived five minutes after they texted and parked outside. There was another car parked by Mihashi’s car and he wondered if he had arrived too early.
“I’m outside,” he quickly typed. Five minutes later he got a reply to come inside, the door was open and he was in the kitchen.
It was the first time Haruna had come inside Mihashi’s apartment, all this time he had never let him come even close to it and all this time he was worried about the whole thing. He imagined a lot of scenarios but having a kid was not one of them and to his surprise it was just that. After he told him about Akemi a lot of things started to click, now that he thought about it. He decided not to dwelle on it too much, Mihashi had his reasons.
“It’s over here,” a voice Haruna didn’t recognize said in a loud whispered.
Haruna followed the voice and was met with a very nervous looking Mihashi and another man he didn’t know. He was grinning at him, looking him up and down in his Santa suit and then laughed. “So this is the famous Haruna Motoki, uh?”
“Tajima..” Mihashi complained.
“I still can’t believe you kept this secret away from me,” Tajima said hurtfully. “You talked about him but you never let me meet him. Unbelievable!” And then stepping forward toward Haruna he extended his hand and introduced himself. “Tajima Yuichiro. Mihashi’s best friend. You mess with him, you mess with me, you hear?”
“Tajima,” Mihashi repeated in a whined but said men simply shrugged and looked at Haruna at the eyes as if he was scanning him. It then hit Haruna that it was the famous Tajima Yuichiro, number one rookie baseball player, Tajima Yuichiro.
“Haruna Motoki,” he finally introduced himself, gripping Tajima’s hand with a tight hold. He gave his best confident grin and then said. “We’re fine so don’t worry about useless things. I would never hurt Mihashi.”
Amused Tajima hummed and gave him a smirk to then laughed, patting him on the shoulder harder than strictly necessarily. “You alright.” And then turning back to Mihashi he waved him goodbye as he started to leave. “I’m really sorry again Mihashi. You know I would stay if I could.”
“I understand,” Mihashi said and waved him goodbye. “I hope he gets better. I’ll visit you tomorrow.”
Tajima nodded, saying one last goodbye before disappearing out of view and soon after they heard the front door close.
“Thank you for coming over,” Mihashi then said, walking toward Haruna. “It was so last minute...and then I even told you you couldn’t come to the dinner and...you still came.”
“Don’t mention it.” Haruna smiled, pulling Mihashi into a quick peck. “I would drop everything for you, you know.”
“I love you,” he whispered.
It made Haruna heart skip a beat. “I love you too.”
Mihashi looked away blushing and Haruna smiled and gave him a kiss on the forehead, wishing they could actually stay like that for the night. But this was not a night for himself. So he asked Mihashi what they needed to do and Mihashi walked him to the small living room where they had a medium-sized tree. It was lit up with Christmas light and had all kinds of decorations.
As it turns out, although Haruna wasn’t really surprised, Mihashi had planned it to the very minor detail. He had worry and thought about every single detail and things Haruna would never even had thought about. So when he asked him for opinions on whether to wrap this present with this wrap paper or what would be more convincing proof that Santa came tonight, Haruna did the best he could to come up with appropriate answer.
It went on like that until it was past 2 AM in the morning, according to Mihashi they were almost done and Haruna was almost sad that it would all be over so soon. They had talked in whispers as to not wake up the child, but Akemi had given them two false alarms. Just a few minutes ago, he had woken up and tried getting out of his room to take a peek but Mihashi had ran interference. Still Haruna was sure he had saw him and he had only hope he had being convincing enough.
“It’s getting late,” Mihashi whispered after a long silence of them finishing the presents.
Even if he wanted to just stay a little longer, wanting to enjoy this moment for as long as he could, he nodded. “Yeah. I guess my job here is done, uh?.” He said grinning.
“Thank you..” Mihashi said smiling. “You helped me a lot.” Standing up from where he was sitting he looked down at the tree. There were a couple of presents, not a lot but not too little. He hoped that was enough. “Akemi will love this.”
Haruna stood up too and looked at the tree too. It was a modest tree with a couple of presents but it was still a truly beautiful Christmas tree. “If you need me again, don’t hesitate to call.” He said smiling at Mihashi and then starting toward the door.
The apartment wasn’t too big, it was just big enough for Mihashi and the boy so a few steps away they were already by the entrance. They both linger at the door, neither wanted the other to leave.
It wasn’t subtle at all, it was sticking out like a sore thumb. It was a coincidence that Haruna had seen it, really, but when he did he broke into a laughter that was soon muffled by Mihashi’s alarmed and confused face.
“I’m sorry but,” Haruna said trying hard not to laugh. “Lookup.” Taped by the door was a mistletoe, probably courtesy of one Tajima. He liked the guy already.
As if to confirmed his suspicions, Mihashi groaned Tajima’s name, trying to hide his embarrassment from the other. Still, when Haruna leaned into give him a kiss Mihashi smiled and leaned into it. Haruna’s arms looped around Mihashi as their lips locked in. It wasn’t just a peck but it wasn’t really long either. Mihashi was the first to pull away but he lingered for a little while, looking at his eyes and then smiled.
“Thank you, Tajima,” Haruna grinned and Mihashi laughed.
“I’ll call you tomorrow,” Mihashi said and then laughing he corrected himself to later in the afternoon. “Maybe we can have leftover lunch together?”
“Sounds wonderful.” Haruna nodded. “One for the road?” He asked with a smirk before walking out and Mihashi just couldn’t say no, so he leaned in for a quicker small kiss before Haruna gave him a final hug and left the apartment.
He truly had a good feeling about Haruna, Mihashi thought as he returned back to where the tree was. And he thought that within time, Akemi would like him too. His thoughts were interrupted with a buzz from his cellphone. It was Haruna.
“I had a lot of fun. Thank you for tonight.”
Mihashi couldn’t had wished for a better Christmas day.

Another try at pretending to be an artist.
I know that drawing is not my thing but after noticing the lack of HaruMiha pics or fics, I decided to try drawing them like I do with my other works (It’s the first time I draw these characters) It’s a failed attempt to express my liking for this pairing since I’d already screwed it up.
Still shipping Motoki and Ren together, not caring about what others could say (Even if it’s not popular among fans)

HaruMiha Lovechildren
So I mentioned twin HaruMiha lovechildren to @dollarinthedouchebagjar and somehow I made this. I have no clue how. Mihashi Haruto (三橋 陽翔) Haruna Kaito (榛名 海斗) Haruto takes more after Haruna, with sharper features and dark brown hair just like him. His hair is styled with undercut sides and a longer, tousled top. His name means sun (陽) and to soar/fly (翔). Kaito has light brown hair, usually tied up in a ponytail or a bun. His face is slightly less angled than his brother and instead has the rounder shape of Mihashi's face. Said face is more often than not covered in an grin. His name means sea/ocean (海) and refers to the constellation Ursa Major (斗). Haruto is shy and introverted, and doesn't speak up for himself much. He mumbles a lot. He's capable of having a lot of confidence though, so once be finished his little anxiety attack about whether or not what he has to say has any relevance, he's fully capable of speaking up about the topic and firmly planting and defending his idea. But he's not very good at sticking up for himself outside of that, so he's very soft spoken and shy most of the time. He doesn't like going up to strangers and often tries to get out of asking for/doing things because of it. He's very easily amused and can become a chatterbox when with friends and discussing things he likes. Kaito is fairly energetic and tends to have little to no hesitance when talking to people. He cares about what people think and feel, so he does his best to make sure everyone is happy. He feels inadequate when someone gets upset at him or isn't able to make someone happy and beats himself up over it, but his twin is quick to scold him for it and reassure him of how much he's worth. Sometimes it will be months before this happens and sometimes it happens several weeks in a row, but it's almost always because he doesn't realize how blunt he's being and how it can offend people. He's always quickly called out on it though by those close to him, and always feels really bad about it.

“little love nest (just for us)”
Mihashi wants to be a good kid and go to class, but Haruna always wins in the end.
For Rarepair Week 7: Free Day (with hints towards ending) feat. college Haruna/Mihashi. Mildly NSFW I suppose? There’s making out and grinding for a bit before someone I think we all know who ruins it.
The week started with the end of a friendship and ends with the start of a day. It all comes full circle. But I’m so glad I was able to participate all week long and got some good responses from it!! It was a lovely experience.
Also crossposted at AO3.
Mihashi shifted under the sheets, craning his head carefully to look at the clock. Nine-thirty in the morning. Oh, he thought, stiffening up; he overslept. He needed to get out of bed so he could get ready for his morning class—and Mihashi would have made it out if the strong arm holding him in place didn’t stop him.
“Ren, stay,” a muffled voice croaked out.
“But… I need to go…”
“Just skip then.”
He was forcefully pulled back into bed with a yelp and the arm around his waist only tightened. Mihashi whined: he’ll make a fool out of himself if he entered that particular lecture hall late. Not to mention Abe will have a huge fit (and no matter what anyone says, being subjected to the pickled plum never gets any easier with time).
Mihashi had gotten a little better at arguing back since he graduated high school, but he always lost out to a certain pair of lips. Especially when those lips were making their way down the back of his neck and to the juncture of his shoulder where he really likes it.
“Wait—ah!”
Haruna smirked and nipped at the skin, still tender from their previous night’s activities. “You know you want to, Ren. ‘sides, it’s not like you have a test or anything.”
“M-Motoki-kun plays unfair…” Mihashi turned around to face him, lips pursed. So do you, Haruna thinks with a smile. He leaned down to kiss the expression away, flicking his tongue against Mihashi’s lips. It gives the desired result: a soft gasp that allowed Haruna to finally execute his counterattack. Mihashi practically melted when their tongues met in heated, open-mouthed kisses—the cute whimpers of pleasure from the sensation as Haruna licked every part of his boyfriend’s mouth that he could. He always teased when Mihashi’s tongue tried to shyly take initiative because he secretly found it weirdly sexy when Mihashi tried to be aggressive with kissing.
They pulled apart for air before Haruna adjusted their position so that Mihashi lay on top of him. His hands snaked down to squeeze that cute little ass and he delighted in the squeak that came with it. Haruna pulled him in for another kiss, grinding their hips together, and he could feel himself getting hard.
“M-Motoki-kun,” Mihashi breathed out. God, he wanted to just plunge himself deep into this boy.
“Ren,” Haruna murmurs into his ear, voice thick with want, “Ren, I wanna—” Mihashi’s phone sounds off with a chirpy string of electronic notes. Fucking dammit.
Mihashi glanced down apologetically before reaching over to get his phone. He froze at the sight of the name on the caller ID. Haruna could already guess who it was.
“Here,” Haruna said as he plucked the phone out of Mihashi’s hands. He ignored his boyfriend’s stammering about He’s so mad probably and Maybe I should go after all? Ah, but I won’t be able to make it in time and answered with an elongated, “Yes~?”
“I fucking knew you had something to do with this,” the voice from the other line yelled. Mihashi audibly stopped breathing. “If you’re seducing him right now, cut it the fuck out and let him come to class!”
Haruna rubbed small circles onto Mihashi’s hip to calm the boy down. “Takaya, Takaya… Ren needs a little tender love and care—you understand the concept of mental health days, don’t you?—and so I’m happily providing it. He probably won’t miss much.”
“That’s not the point, asshole!”
“Take good notes for him, okay~?” Haruna hung up, leaving Mihashi to look like he had just received a death sentence (which wasn’t too far from the truth, in all actuality). He sat up a little to give a quick peck to his boyfriend’s lips. “Don’t worry about it. Leave Takaya to me. Let’s continue, yeah?”
Mihashi tried to glare and failed. “Y-You’re a horrible influence.”
“But you love me that way.”
And they continued to start their day off with some tender love and care—with a little more, of course.

oKAY, BUT WHY AREN’T WE TALKING ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST SCARCELY RECOGNIZED SHIPS WITHIN THE OOFURI SERIES ???
HARUMIHA.
I MEAN:
Look at hoW CARING HARUNA IS WHEN IT COMES TO INJURY RELATED SITUATIONS BECAUSE OF HIS PAST.
pHYSICAL CONTACT GOT ME LIKE d ಥ//‿//ಥ b
mIHASHI’S JUST BLOWN AWAY BY HARUNA’S ENTIRE BEING.
mIHASHI’S FLUSTERED BLUSH TOWARDS HARUNA OH Y M G OD/;/;;//
hARUNA’S AMUSEMENT TOWARDS MIHASHI IS SO KIND.
FIRST THING MIHASHI TALKS ABOUT AFTER MEETING HARUNA IS HOW NICE HE IS; HE DOES THIS SUBCONSCIOUSLY, MEANING HIS FEELINGS FOR HARUNA POURED OUT ALL AT ONCE.
hOLY FU CK KABE DON; I A M G ONE. ಥ‿ಥ
Also, if you listen to the actual scene from Oofuri Episode 11, you can heAR THE AMUSED FLIRTATION IN HARUNA’S TONE OF VOICE.
OF COURSE MOST PEOPLE THOUGHT HERE THAT HARUNA’S A TWO FACED TRASHY PERSON, BUT UNLIKE THOSE WHO UNDERESTIMATE MIHASHI, HE’S A DECENT ENOUGH HUMAN BEING TO PAT HIM ON THE SHOULDER AND WISH HIM LUCK, BE IT FAKE OR GENIUNE, SINCE PEOPLE USUALLY SNEER AT THOSE BELOW THEMSELVES ABILITY WISE INSTEAD OF PATTING THEM ON THE SHOULDER.
lOVESTRUCK.
HE’S BLUSHING SO MUCH OH YMM G OD, I’VE NEVER SEEN HIM BLUSH SO HARD AT SOMETHING WITHIN THE SERIES.
hE’S SO IN LOVE THAT HE JUST STANDS UP, NOT REALISING PEOPLE MIGHT BE LOOKING AT HIM (WHICH MOST PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY DO & WORRY OVER)
