you adored your husband—shouta aizawa—so much so, that you were his dedicated housewife. he made plenty of money as a pro hero and… enough… as a teacher, so that left you to take care of the house and your shared cat. though when he did come home he was way different than he was at work, usually at work he was all nonchalant and cold but at home he was sweet and caring, sometimes even a bit rough. his students would definitely describe him as laid back and uninterested, yet when you were around they were in awe of his personality shift.

After reading at least two (original) fics where the authors made angels/the christian canon real, and clearly did absolutely no further thinking about how that would relate to or imply anything about colonialism and non-European cultures, I just really want to tell you how amazing it is that you put so much thought into the Beings universe and those subjects in that universe. It’s just really nice to see someone being thoughtful about the implications of their worldbuilding

oh wow. I wonder about that kind of thing even when I am watching like, an old Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ryan starts talking about "demons" and never clarifies what he means by it but presumably the Christian idea of demons. And he's clearly never thought about like... any other views about such things.

And that's just me watching the silly ghosthunting show! So authors who do that in fiction and don't even consider the implications even a little bit???? Baffling to me.

(sidenote: consider the implications makes me thinks of It's Always Sunny. every time)

You don't have to do a lot, authors! And if you do... well even Tolkien with all his worldbuilding sometimes just sort... handwaved it. Building a whole universe is hard!

Ghostbusters! the 1984 comedy movie! about busting ghosts! even thinks about this a little bit by having a Catholic bishop? archbishop? cardinal? be there!! Anyway HE gets asked about all the ghosts and the implications of them, and his answer is a joke but clearly it occurred to the writers as something someone ought to think about a little if ghosts and aliens? alt dimensional beings! and Sumerian gods are real.

This is similar to the issue I had with that urban fantasy m/m I was reading the other night. *If* that world was one in which the fae are actually the ones in charge (I say if because the author didn't make it super clear) then why... would the world be almost exactly the same as it is now? Colonialism, capitalism, America's history (presumably, from the references) all the same??? Not even a little change except I guess it was queer normative now (except still sexist so you figure it out)

I know it's fun to say oh what if magical creatures were real and very gay and they fall in love all the time. Or what if omegaverse genders and heats were real in the modern world. But then like... things would be different. Not necessarily better, but different.

If you don't stop to think about that for a second, you get something like the book I just read, or you know, the Harry Potter universe. Where powerful beings existed who could have stopped many horrible things from happening... but just didn't for some reason. And yet we are expected to like these creatures and find them sympathetic.

(Though this author also kept putting weird magical species-racism in the story and never examined that either. So. Perhaps I'm expecting too much.)

(Themed Rec List) 9 Omega Tom Riddle | Voldemort Fics

I recently damn near lost my mind after reading @cannibalinc's new Omega Tom Riddle fic, so it made me wonder how prevalent Omega Tom (or Voldemort) is in Tomarrymort... Pretty rare as it turns out! On AO3, the Alpha Tom Riddle (Alpha Voldemort) tag outpaces the Omega Tom Riddle (Omega Voldemort) tag by a factor of 7 to 1 for Tomarrymort fics 👀

Luckily, there’s been an amazing slate of Tomarrymort authors who’ve dipped their toes into this dynamic, so I was inspired to throw together an Omega Tom | Voldemort themed rec list.

The most interesting theme underlying many of these Omega Tom fics is how Tom manages to find ways to wield power in a world that denies him power, similar to how he overcomes his meagre circumstances in canon. Seeing Tom upend the typical power structures that we see in A/B/O dynamics and break the mould of "weak" Omega expectations results in a very authentic depiction of the manipulative and ruthless Tom (Voldemort) that we know and love 😊

Tomarrymort Recs (Omega Tom Riddle | Voldemort)

A Matter of Perspective by lemonchase (E, 3k, WIP)

A PWP featuring a very practical Minister Riddle wanting to spend his heat with Auror Potter who is blessed with quite the generously-sized package. They have a very fun chemistry and banter, and seeing Harry sheepish about his god-given gifts is always a treat.

As It Begins by @duplicitywrites (T, 15k, WIP)

I never knew I needed an omegaverse Bridgerton AU in my life, but after reading this, I realized that I 1000% need an omegaverse Bridgerton AU in my life. It was fascinating to follow along as Tom so meticulously thinks through all the machinations and second-order effects of every ball and courting gift and social interaction — the Regency-era courtship-focused setting maps really well onto Tom's social climbing ambitions. Also, the side characters are such a delight as well, especially the handsome and charming Prince Cedric, who emerges as a viable candidate for Tom’s hand as he proposes a courtship with Tom (I’m now kind of obsessed with Prince Cedric after reading this), and there’s plenty of romantic tension, UST, and juicy gossip/drama to keep Tom and Harry occupied and us readers at the edge of our seats.

I thought this was a clever play on the widespread trope of “Voldemort is definitely an Alpha / the assumed top in every circumstance” within the Tomarry ship. In this fic, Harry also (mistakenly) assumes Voldemort must be an Alpha — after all, that's what everyone had always said his whole life. As a result, he doesn’t bother to confirm before adopting Tom, which results in a loss of control that could prove disastrous for both of them.

Newly presented Omega Tom takes babytrapping schemes to a whole new level in this fic. He is determined to have Harry as his Alpha, and there’s both a layer of Tom wanting to be with Harry to use him to his advantage, as well as a layer of Tom genuinely wanting Harry and craving his scent, his touch, his attentions — and oh, the pining in this fic was so very captivating, especially the last part where Tom comes undone surrounded by Harry’s scent.

Honeyguide by @cannibalinc (E, 7k, complete)

This was such a wild ride, and Tom’s inner voice is both so coldly rational and absolutely hilarious at the same time. Tom is hellbent on seducing Harry, regardless of anything that stands in the way. The rut scene was so intense — probably one of the most intense things I’ve read in all of fanfic — with Harry losing control and Tom facing the consequences of his actions and manipulations (in other words, of being a little shit). The rut was absolutely glorious in how it was depicted, with the snatches of action filtering in and out giving it a very dreamlike, unhinged quality. For Tom to be happy with the outcome of the rut and still want to be with Harry afterwards shows how resolute and strong his will is, which I thought was a very nice depiction of Tom that will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

A lovely depiction of a Harry and Tom dynamic where they’re not quite together but have known each other for a long time, and it’s very sweet how they have an implicit trust in each other, for Tom to want to spend his heat with Harry. They both clearly care about each other, more than what they reveal in words, and it comes out in their comfortable familiarity with each other’s bodies and how they take care of each other’s needs, and I’m left with a smile on my face and a hopeful feeling about their future.

Prison Blues by @metalomagnetic (E, 48k, WIP)

My reaction to each chapter of Prison Blues published has been incoherent screaming—there is a LOT of knotting, there is a LOT of slick, and there is a LOT of Voldemort being an absolute menace and Harry having the biggest heart of gold in the world. Voldemort definitely wields his power as an Omega in this fic — he’s absolutely dripping in the power he holds over others — strutting about and driving all the Alphas around him crazy — it is QUITE the magnificent depiction of Voldemort at his sexiest. I literally have no words to describe how jaw-droppingly knock-out sexy these chapters were, but after each update, I was left in a stunned daze where I didn’t know what to do with myself for the next few hours aside from read and reread each chapter a few more times. And we even get a whole chapter dedicated to Voldemort’s backstory from the time he was at Hogwarts as a newly-presented omega! (Also, did we know there's only 1 fic on AO3 that uses the Omega Voldemort tag, and it’s this one!?? 👀 Omega Voldemort has so much untapped potential!)

Tantrums by @crowcrowcrowthing (E, 5k, complete)

Tom is a straight-up brat in this fic, and his chaotic, destructive tendencies are too funny to read about. Harry happens to be the only one that has a hope of reining Tom in, but Harry’s no perfect role model either, as an impulsive teenager that doesn’t have full control over his instincts. This is a rare example of a fic with beta/omega dynamics, and I thought it was an interesting take on how betas without any special A/B/O biology or instincts can, just as much, succumb to their instincts when confronted with alpha or (in this case) omega biology.

The Ethics of Want by @exarite (E, 10k, complete)

This was the first omegaverse I read in Tomarry, and it's pretty much the perfect beginner omegaverse fic, so if you're just dipping your toes into A/B/O — highly, highly recommend starting here. Tom is SO MANIPULATIVE and SO SCHEMING in this fic, and when he sets his sights on Harry, he is absolutely relentless until he gets his way, including some questionable (and hilarious) scent-marking tactics. There's just something Exarite’s prose that feels like drinking from a bubbly well of champagne — their fics are always so engaging and delightful to read, and the smut is so unbelievably hot, top top tier. Each time I reread this piece, it always feels fresh and just as much of a wild ride as the first time I read it.

A dark chuckle, and a smug grin from the man sitting behind him, with not a care in the world. "Oh, Harry, darling, that isn't the kind of ownership we're talking about."

For those that don't know me, my name's Lou (she/her) and I have recently gotten back into revamping the numerous fic projects I had in my vaults and trying to get back into my writing again.

I have put out this post to say that if anyone is also in a similar situation with their own fics, I am offering my fellow fic writers to beta & alpha read fics in exchange for coming on as an alpha or beta reader for my own projects.

As a beta & alpha reader, I am willing to not only check for grammar, punctuation, spelling and formatting but also:

identify weaknesses in the plot.

identify pieces in the story where engagement was high or lacking.

identify points in the story where clarity is needed.

help develop characters (both oc & canon)

canon check pieces of information (for canonverse/compliant fics)

I love soulmates au, childhood friends to lovers, best friends to lovers. I always adore a canon fix-it fic. At times I really enjoy omegaverse when its going against the norms.

🤠 favorite au genre?

I love soulmates au! There are so many different ways it could go! I love it so much that I signed up for a harry potter soulmates secret Santa exchange! (I'm really excited for it!)

🙅 whats an instant nope for you?

I don't like abuse (domestic abuse) but I'll read that on an occasion. Also sa/rape, I very rarely read fics of those unless a mutual wrote one.

What are your personal fanfic/story pet peeves and, conversely, what are your favorite fanfic/story aspects/tropes? Like, what makes you click off a fic or settle in?

Super fun question! Let me think. I can answer general ones, but then I also feel they get specific for each fandom I'm in. The more time you spend on fics for a certain fandom, the more you know what kinds you like and which ones you won't bother reading, especially when it's a bigger fandom. For smaller ones I'm much less picky. In general terms though, let's start negative and end positive.

Fanfic Immediate Turn Offs:

-Any villan redemption.

-Obvious typos and formatting errors (I'm sorry, I can't handle it).

-Extreme ooc.

-Rape/non con (this is fandom dependent, if it's a canon element then it's fine)

-Any crazy unhealthy relationship dynamics, like I'm not interested in a like, 50 Shades of Grey type au, or your teacher/student romance. None of that.

-I won't read certain kinks? This is again, fandom dependent, and how I feel the characters would act in their relationship, but like I'll never read any watersports, or rape kinks, and I don't vibe with blood kinks either. That's my preference, not to yuck anyone's yum. Those are my big three, though I'm sure there's more.

-If there is a ship I hate, even in the background, I can't do it.

-Basic miscommunication.

-If a character calls another character Daddy or Mommy.

-OH any of those real creepy omegaverse fics where omegas are like, purchased. They fascinate me in how awful they make me feel.

Fanfic Immediate Turn Ons (for lack of a better term):

-Unfortunately, I am into the omegaverse. It's fascinating, really fucking funny, and also I kind of just love the perfect pairing concept. Also maybe I want to be cared for, I haven't analyzed it much.

-I will also read every single: soulmate au, sentinel au, Harry Potter au, sense8 au, and celebrity au. I really enjoy those in particular and I feel like they are rare lil gems when I see them.

-Snappy, funny dialogue.

-If there's no real serious plot, and it's just characters healing and rebuilding and then living life like it's a serious of episodes of Modern Family or a monster-of-the-week type beat, I will eat that shit up. I will read thousands of pages of it.

-Conversely, I love a serious plot, like if I feel the writing and worldbuilding is novel level good.

-I really enjoy some porn with plot.

-There are certain fics for certain fandoms that I will read over and over again, no matter how many times I've read the plot before. For example, I will read every The 100 college au with linctavia. I will read every modern Reddie meet cute with no Pennywise. I'll read every Avatar fic where Spider is adopted by the Sully's. I'll read every Bridgerton fic where Anthony pursues Kate from the beginning. I'll read every single post Top Gun: Maverick fic where Ice lived and the Daggers all discover from him running into the infirmary that Ice is married to Maverick and that Rooster has known that the entire time and never said anything. There are more of these, of course, but these are just a few examples.

I'm sure there are more tropes I'm forgetting, but hopefully this answered your question sufficiently. I answered mostly for fanfic, but the more general ones apply to novels. Novels I expect more from, though.

The Wolf and the Serpent - Severus Snape x Remus Lupin Omega fanfiction

My Harry Potter Omegaverse stories revolving around Alpha Remus and Omega Severus - set mostly in Marauder and First Wizarding War Era, but do have a currently on-going fic that is set when Harry is a young child. While I do take note of events that occurred in Canon, the stories are pretty much fall into the realm of AU; Prime examples being Remus and Severus are a couple AND Severus does not become a Death Eater straight out of Hogwarts AND when he does become a Death Eater, he's already a double-agent for Dumbledore. I am very open to any suggestions for stories, and any story ideas I do end up writing, you will be given full credit, and the story will be gifted to you.

I love it when in fics a character that I like more in the specific ship is oblivious or in denial and the other character pins over them, like REALLY HARD. Or is jealous. And everyone sees it, except the main character :') This is my top of the top, along with getting together, because I'm not a big fan of established relationships (in fics ofc xD) Just… pining and jealousy are *chef's kisss*. Or when the character agrees (or propose) to fake dating because they are totally in love with the person they are supposed to be in a relationship with 🥺 I also have a huge weakness for fics where a character reads and/or writes fanfiction about themselves and the person they are in love with 😭

Among AU types, I love Soulmates, Hanahaki Disease, High School, Harry Potter AU. Sometimes I have phases of the Omegaverse. But I guess Canon Divergence AU is my favorite after all.

I love a lot of prompts or AUs, but often I just need to feel like reading/writing something specific 💀

I don't really write sad endings, but maybe To Darken Fading Summer Skies. It's pretty short, though, and I actually have a sequel outlined (will it see the light of the day?) with a happy ending, so none, hehe.

I've written smut before, but I wouldn't consider it my main genre at all. I love reading smut though, and I have great respect for those who write it well! It's hard! It's a skill! Tell me your secret!

Craziest crossover:

I have never written a crazy crossover (I dream of the day I will be able to write a fic like how many old gods does it take to end a war (marvel x tgcf) by unfortunategay. I'm still obsessed).

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, I don't think so.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, twice, it's the greatest honor!:) I have one fic translated into Italian and one into Russian.

Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No. It sounds a little scary, but I'm sure it's probably lots of fun! One day, I'd love to try!

All time favourite ship?

Hualian, all the way. They're everything I like in a ship; opposites who are more similar than how they first appear, outcasts who find a meaning and a home in the other, people who suffered too much but still get to have a happy ending. They're tragic but happy, they're obsessive but healthy, and the best thing is that they can't even be separated by death.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

There's a wolfstar canon-divergence fic I really want to write where an accident happens during The Prank and it changes everything, even the war. Writing long stories scares me though, but I still hope I'll push through one day. Oh, and there's also a very smutty omegaverse-like durgetash fic I want to write with the original Dark Urge, but well, smut isn't my strength hehe.

What are your writing strengths?

Semi-good ideas, maybe? Also, somehow I feel like I write animals well. It's probably because of Gerald Durrell books.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Actually writing. I'm so bad at finishing stuff. I struggle to get the descriptions to flow well, I overanalyze everything, and as someone whose first language isn't english, I'm always very scared that my sentences end up very awkward and strange without me having the faintest idea, but I suppose these are all things that should get better with practice. Still, it's a struggle.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I haven't been in a spot yet where I had to write dialogue in another language like that. I love when other authors do it, especially when it's latin or french or a language I have no idea about (google translate go brr).

First fandom you wrote in?

Miraculous Ladybug, and I wrote smut(!) in my mother language when I was like 13-14? Thankfully it is lost to time (or is probably in my old friend's dms, but I won't go digging). Those superheroes had a chokehold on me and so many of my classmates.

Favourite fic you've written?

Right now it's probably Next time, bring a napkin; I think it turned out funny.

Podfic details:

I really like when there’s a little bit of different voices for different characters, and hearing if they laugh or make other nonverbal sounds in conversation, although I’m sorry to say I can’t always hear subtle sound effects, unless they stand out.

Art details:

DNW: flashing/strobe effects, tarot cards or symbolism, christian symbolism, wildly disproportionate/chibi-like characters, or completely non-representational art, disney style. (and this isn’t a strict dnw but I tend not to be a fan of pastels)

(Mainly for OCs) Within the range of typical human coloration, I tend to prefer darker skin, eyes, and hair, as well as wavy/curly/kinky hair rather than straight (also dyed and/or greying: yes please!); for non-humans, the more colorful the better. (<-AU versions?), Fat versions of characters, show the rolls! :D plus stretch marks and scars, disabled characters and accessibility devices
Feel free to go as explicit as you like, genitalia showing, fluids, etc. however much you’re comfortable with.
