Isle dreamer.
Where the Hook siblings assume CJ died. Set during wicked world, before D2
! TW!
-Character death (Let's pretend CJ is dead and not in Auradon for the sadsies)
-Depictions of grief.
——————————
Harriet went to sleep without thinking a lot about CJ being out for the night. Her sister was that way, she would never come back home in the estimated time. CJ would always come back one hour after her curfew, just to mess around with them.
Plus, she was with Freddie. If someone could put some reason into Calista’s head that was definitely Freddie.
So there was apparently nothing to worry about.
She stopped worrying about CJ coming home to sleep when the latter was around 11, ever since then CJ would sleep ‘Wherever the night caught her’ and take turns sleeping in the Jolly Roger, The lost revenge, Freddie’s house or Harriet’s ship; The crimson zephyr. She had that bad habit.
Her sister was just that careless.
And Harriet had given up with her a long time ago. Once she found CJ eating breakfast in her ship’s kitchen, which would’ve been normal if her sister had slept in her ship the previous night.
Harriet honestly didn’t care about that. She had learned to leave one window open and extra food just for CJ. It was better if her sister slept there than on the streets like the other children on the Isle.
Uma also didn’t mind CJ’s random presence on her ship, the pirate had just adopted her as ‘Harry’s annoying little sister that crashes here without warning’ and rolled along with it.
Captain Hook? He was sometimes delighted to see his daughter come back to her home and spend the night there, sometimes he would make it clear he didn’t want her there.
So, yeah. CJ spending the night out while she had explicitly told Harriet she would sleep in her ship wasn’t that much of a big deal. Maybe the Faciliers made something CJ likes for dinner and so she decided to spend the night there.
Oh well, she would just scold her little sister when she got home and that’s it.
Cj will be fine. She can fetch for herself.
So the following night, Harriet Hook woke up without too many worries inside of her head, half of those worries weren’t really related to her sister. They were mostly about her crew or the fact that they lived on a jail-island, nothing too bad or out of the ordinary.
She walked out of her cabin, heading to the kitchen. Greeting some of her crewmates in the process.
Claudine Frollo was already up, making breakfast for her crew. She was probably the only member of the crew who got up at the unholy hour that 5am was.“Good morning, Captain.” She said, serving some crepes for Harriet.
“ ‘Morning, have you seen Calista around the ship?” The captain asked, sitting down to eat what had been just served to her.
Claudine shook her head no.
“Are you sure?” Harriet insisted.
“If she had slept inside of the ship, I would’ve heard her entering it. You know I have quite the sensitive ear.”
“Hm.True.” Harriet hummed, taking some last bites out of her breakfast. “She must’ve spent the night with Harry or Freddie. She’ll probably be back in a day or two.”
“May the lord be with her.” Claudine made the cross gesture.
Harriet just let out a sigh. “Yeah let the religious stuff from your dad for an actually dangerous situation, We’ve got raids to do.”
And so, the next two days passed by normally for Harriet Hook.
Her rutinary raids, antics, some robbery and someone being stabbed, whatever was normal for her.
But, during those days. CJ was nowhere to be seen. At least inside of her ship.
She woke up with a little of a hangover from drinking last night, walking to the kitchen with one of her hands holding an ice pack on her head to calm down the migraine.
Harriet barely opened her mouth, and Claudine already had an answer for her question. “CJ still isn’t here. And no, Sammy hasn’t seen her either.”
The captain sighed. “Don’t serve me any breakfast, give it to Sammy or whoever needs it. I’m going to the Lost revenge to drag that brat back home.”
Harriet could hear a small giggle before leaving. “Good luck with that rascal.”
The way to the Lost revenge wasn’t too far from her. The isle was quite small, so it was just around two blocks away from her own ship. The port was way too small.
She knocked three times on the wooden of the ship, some of Uma’s pirates looking at her with fear, and some others with respect.
Uma looked at her from the deck, looking like she wanted to cuss her out of there at first; but once she realized it was Harriet she only sighed. “Ah, it 's you.”
“Harry! Your sister’s here!” The fellow captain screamed so loud it could probably be heard on all of the ship.
“The crazy one or the normal one?”
“The normal one!”
And so, Harry could soon be heard walking towards the deck, then he jumped out of the ship. “What up?”
“Has CJ been sleeping here for the last three days?” Harriet asked, straightforward.
Her brother bit his lip, frowning. “I was actually going to ask you if she had been sleeping in the Crimson zephyr. Haven’t seen that polliwog around in a while.”
Harriet took a deep breath. “So she hasn’t!”
Harry shook his head no. “Might be at dad’s.”
The captain shrugged, wanting to not look lowkey frustrated. “Wanna search for her with me? Maybe Hook’s got her hostage thinking she’s Peter pan or something. She never stays with him for that long.”
“Oh I had forgotten she’s that guy’s age already.” Harry mumbled. “Count me in. Uma ain’t doing anything interesting today.”
And so, The oldest sibling nodded, walking across the port along with her brother.
The Jolly roger being so close to the Lost revenge it was almost comical it took them around three minutes to get there
Once they were close enough, Harry yelled. “Oh Dad! Would you mind talking to your children?”
Hook looked down at them, making some gestures with his fake hand. “I do it every once in a while. What do you want now?”
“Have you seen Calista? Or, a child resembling Peter Pan lately?” Harriet asked, her arms crossed.
Their father frowned at the mention of that boy. “My little girl? Nope, and I wish I don’t see that hellish boy or anyone who resembles him again.”
Harriet sighed, turning around and walking away from the port (Dragging Harry along with her), refusing to listen to Hook any longer. “I believe him. If he had lost his mind he wouldn’t make it clear that Cj’s his favorite child.”
Harry decided to not argue any longer. Walking to wherever Harriet was going to.
Which seemed to be… The arcade the Facilier’s run?
How odd.
Harriet entered almost kicking the door open, her presence being ominous enough to startle most people inside of the arcade. She looked straight into Dr.Facilier’s eyes as soon as she spotted him.
“Has CJ slept here the last three days, Shadowman?”
“Easy there, Hook. I could ask you the exact same question about Freddie.” The older man answered, something in his voice made the phrase look like a threat. “Unlike your little sister she has some manners. She never sleeps outside of her home, much less uninvited. Where is my daughter?”
Harry almost walks up to Facilier, hook in hand. Yet Harriet stopped him.
“Where is my sister? They should be together. I’m not looking for a fight.” The pirate dropped her sword, and made her brother drop his hook. (Although he rolled his eyes when she did.) “Kidnapping your daughter would only make CJ hate me.”
The shadowman seemed a little more relaxed, less menacing. Yet he still looked stressed. “I’m serious. I don’t know where both of them are. Celia has been worried, so am I. We figured maybe CJ was keeping her hidden, or rather hiding with her.”
Harriet growled in frustration, picking up her sword and passing the hook to her brother.
“Whatever. Those two must be hiding anywhere waiting for us to lose our minds searching for them. I’ll tell you when I find them, so you can also ground Freddie for life for letting CJ do that.”
Facilier nodded, with a heavy sigh. Then the siblings left the arcade.
Harriet kicked a stone in frustration.
Harry didn’t know quite what to do. Looking worried was not a choice, though. “Maybe she is okay. Just playing hide and seek anywhere, just to toy around with us.”
Harriet bit one of her nails, not wanting to seem worried either. She could not show weakness in public. “Tell Uma and her crew to look out for her literally everywhere. My crew will do the same. No stone must remain unturned.”
Harry let out a laugh. “That polliwog will be so grounded when you get her.”
“She will not see the sunlight until she turns eighteen.”
And so, the day passed by.
All the raids planified for that day came to a halt. For both Uma and Harriet’s crew. The pirates looked for every street inside in the isle, every alley. Every business that could be a possible hideout.
Harriet’s crew even had to swallow down whatever fear they had left and enter Maleficent’s now abandoned castle. Still, no trace of CJ nearby. It seemed like her most probable hideout but there wasn’t a single trail of her or Freddie in there.
The search went on for two weeks.
Uma’s had looked inside of the Hell hall but even there, there was not a single trace of the missing girls.
Every alley had been temporarily invaded by the pirates in search for the girl, and no one was there.
Harriet had screamed her sister’s name time and again, and nobody answered.
During the second week, they had stopped searching and began raiding more often, in case somebody had the guts to hold hostage the youngest Hook child.
The hopes of Cj’s older siblings were high when the raids began, and they had in fact found some of the missing children of the isle who would then be sent back to their parent’s arms.
Nonetheless there was not a single trace of CJ or Freddie in any of those raids. When interrogating people, they claimed that they knew that kidnapping CJ Hook was technically suicide.
So, during the third week of Cj’s disappearance, Harriet and Harry stopped looking for someone living.
Harriet shivered, her voice trembled a little when she asked what might be the hardest question she had ever asked. “I need Uma to ask Ursula if she has seen any remains of CJ in the depths of the sea.”
CJ never learned how to swim unlike her siblings. Maybe she stepped on rotten wood whilst walking on the port and drowned.
Or maybe someone had killed her and dropped her remains into the sea.
They knew the villains were immortal, as she herself accidentally killed her father once. (In self defense.) But they also knew that VK’s could die. Everyone who wasn’t deemed as a dangerous villain was not immortal. How charming. Thank you, King Beast.
Whatever, Harriet needed a coat, her sister’s headband, anything. She needed to know what happened to her baby sister.
Neither of the siblings had the strength to tell their father that they thought CJ was dead. They just knew that he was probably drinking himself blind thanks to her daughter’s disappearance.
Harriet also wanted to do that.
Yet she needed to be sober to keep on looking.
She was angry at first.
Angry at the world who set this godforsaken barrier on them. Angry at herself for not looking out for her sister earlier. Angry at her father, for neglecting them in that way.
She screamed, smashed a couple bottles against the floor and punched a wall, yet the people in her crew knew it was best to let Harriet be.
Sammy told them that it was her captain’s way to go through grief.
Harry, on the other hand, seemed more maniacal than never. Whenever they attacked he laughed more than usual, he was more prone to burst out laughing after any inconvenience happened to him. He lashed out when someone mentioned CJ, too.
Uma was there to hold Harry whenever he broke down. She was there to at least tell him that his sister was probably in a better place now. There was someone to be Harry’s support.
Harriet did have Ginny to hold her down while she lashed out, and unlike Harry and Uma, she was not enough to calm her down completely.
Of course she appreciated her partner, but no romantical love could fill the hole her sister left in her heart.
Harriet had raised that girl. She saw her grow up, she taught her how to read and how to count, she taught her how to defend herself.
Had she done something wrong? Had she forgotten to look somewhere else?
Oh.
She did.
The underworld.
All the dead went there, and the god of the underworld was there, on the Isle. Maybe she could give her an answer.
Nonetheless when Harriet sat down to speak with Hades, all she got was disappointment.
Hades was no longer the ruler of the underworld during his imprisonment, the ones ruling it were Persephone and Nyx. Some other goddesses, or demi-gods. Harriet didn’t gave a single fuck about whatever divine status they had.
Persephone was the only one who could tell her if her sister was dead or not.
And Persephone could only come to the island during the winter. It is currently the beginning of autumn.
Great.
So she had to wait months to know if her sister was alive or not.
Harriet did her best to not break down when she reunited with Harry a couple of days later.
They picked up a couple of the few flowers that could be found across the isle, and some shiny stuff CJ would have wanted.
Since cameras weren’t a thing on the isle and they didn’t have a picture of the deceased girls, Harriet painted a small portrait of CJ and Freddie, although it wasn’t her main hobby or a sustainable one on the isle, she was quite good at it.
They made a makeshift altar on the Crimson zephyr, inside of the cabin where their little sister used to sleep in.
Neither Harriet nor Harry cried during Claudine’s memorial speech, all her time with Frollo had prepared her to host funerals; at last. Celia did cry for Freddie.
Claudine lit up a small candle on the altar for the two souls.
Harry didn’t have the strength to speak during the makeshift funeral.
Neither did Harriet, but she spoke anyway.
She swallowed down a tear while standing in front of the portrait of her little sister. “Calista was not a saint. Hell, she stole from us more times than I can count on my two hands.”
“Yet she never had ill intentions. I dare to say my sister was the closest we will have to someone being genuinely kind on this Godforsaken isle. I hope she is happy and in peace along with her best friend, away from this living hell. I hope that this is a reminder of the cruelty of King Beast. And I hope one day we will be able to break this down, so no more innocents will die with misery and pain being all of what they knew during their short lives. Calista Jane Hook, I hope you forgive your siblings for not being able to save you.”
Maybe she teared up while speaking, yet no one pointed it out.
Harriet doesn’t remember anything else that happened during that funeral. She zoned out, just thinking.
Thinking about how CJ used to tell Harriet about her dreams of navigating and seeing the world beyond the barrier she was born into.
She thought about how that little dreamer never got to see anything more than misery, and thinking about how they don’t even have a body to mourn her properly.
Did she suffer?
Did she go in peace? Did she thought about them while leaving?
What a waste…
Ginny had to drag Harriet to bed that night. She drank until she passed out, mumbling something about not being able to save her.
Maybe one day, the memory of the youngest Hook child will stop being painful.
It won’t be today.

My Stolen Hearts AU:
During the events of Descendants 4 when the two were teenagers Bridget and James Hook were secretly dating but they had a fight not that long before that so they wanted to go for a couple days away from each other to clear their heads. Their fight was that Bridget knew what an amazing and sweet James could be based on their interactions when they are alone but when he's with his friends he's a mean and arrogant jerk. She doesn't see why he can't just show the real him to his friends and everyone else. James got defensive but never gave a clear answer on why he acts the way that he does.
During the song Perfect Revenge he suggests making her walk the plank because it would hurt the least and he could be there to save Bridget.
After Red and Chloe go back to their time line James reaches out to Bridget and apologizes and explains why he was acting the way that he was. Being a pirate means that your life is constantly in danger and there is a certain way pirates are supposed to act so it's best to put up a front to avoid showing potential enemies your weaknesses. Bridget forgives him and for the first time James experienced unconditional love. He doesn't necessarily drop the act in public but he does lighten up if Peter Pan isn't involved though.
Bridget and James get married when they are in their early twenties. James wanted to go back to Neverland temporarily now that he has the advantage of being an adult to get revenge on Peter Pan since Peter never left the island. As you all probably know the revenge this doesn't turn out well but after almost being eaten by a crocodile again he returns to Auradon not wanting to waste a second of his life without his wife apologizing repeatedly for leaving in the first place.
Bridget of course forgives him and they make up for lost time if you know what I mean.😉 Bridget gets pregnant with Rook (my OC) and James is thrilled planning on everything that he and his son could do together but nervous that he'll ruin Rook's life but James gets banished to the Isle of the Lost before Rook is born. Bridget's parents force her to marry the King of Hearts since after the situation they are technically divorced. The king didn't know that Bridget was pregnant because it didn't show yet. Then the king and her have Red.
James fell into depression and became a womanizer in order to feel something, anything but it didn't work until the birth of his children. Harriet, Harry, and CJ.

What a fool you were
Guess who was feeling Stabby 😀…it was me. I crave violence and have some lingering bisexual rage against Harry Hook- here’s some angst! Hope you like poison!
TW: someone’s gonna die and I do not shy away from trying to make you cry. If you’re unable to handle depictions of sickness and death, feel free to pay this no mind and keep scrolling. If you’re here to let me make you cry, read away.
(Characters: sea three, sorta but not really core four+ben, hook siblings, lost revenge crew)
He was a fool
He was an absolute fucking fool
They were sent on a diplomatic mission in Camelot, King Arthur wasn’t willing to comply with some of king Ben’s new laws regarding the…villains. Uma and her pirates had been sent to deal with the problem, since, no one would dare mess with Uma and with her entire crew to back her up, there was no way this could go wrong…right?
It took ten minutes for the meeting to derail and turn into a battle. King Arthur refused to compromise and Uma wasn’t backing down, after a few pointed comments at the young sea witch, sword were drawn and a fight ensued
Metal clashed with metal, swords and daggers flew across the room, breaking statues and knocking lights off the walls, one pirate’s sword ended lodged in the round table. Uma was preoccupied, fighting two knights at once, it was honestly child’s play for her. The knights were trained to fight with honor and uniform, Uma was trained by pirates, to never let her enemy know her next move, it was almost too easy
And then she heard it…that unmistakable yelp
Uma turned around and saw Harry collapse to the ground, his hand clasped over his abdomen…and a knight, with a now bloodied dagger clutched in his hand
Uma saw red. In a flash, the knight was pinned to a wall and the room went silent, weapons clattered to the ground, and knights tossed up their hands in surrender. The lost revenge crew were gathered in a circle around Harry…he wasn’t getting up
Uma ran to her first mate. He was lying on the ground, his hand shakily covering his wound, his breath was uneven and his forehead was beaded with sweat. Uma moved his hand, and then she saw it…dark purple mixed in with red
No…no, no, no. Not him, anyone but him
Uma’s hands began to tremble, traveling up to Harry’s cheek. She looked up at Gil, who already had tears in his eyes
“…Call Ben” it was supposed to sound like an order, but it came out as more of a desperate plea. She looked at Jonas and didn’t have to say a word, he simply nodded and lifted Harry into his arms.
The next couple days were dark. Ben had called every doctor in Auradon, all coming back with the same answer, that there was nothing they could do, it was a kind of poison no one had ever seen before and nothing they tried was working. Mal begged, pleaded with Hades, her own father, to do something, anything to save her friend…but not even the gods could help…all anyone could do was wait. Wait for the inevitable
Uma never left Harry’s side. She stayed with him on the ship, crew members rotating shifts on guarding the door of the captain’s quarters, if they weren’t guarding the door…they were saying goodbye
Harry had changed a lot in the past few days, both physically and mentally. His skin had become a sickly pale, almost like porcelain, his once piercing blue eyes were now cloudy and distant. He didn’t talk, he really only had the energy to mumble and whisper, even then his words would often be interrupted by coughing or moans in agony. He’d try to put on his same suave exterior, not wanting his loved ones to be sad when he eventually passed, though there was only one time he couldn’t keep it together
…with his family
His father was off getting drunk somewhere, unable to cope with losing his only son, his boy. Harriet and CJ were there. Harriet held his hand and knelt down to kiss his forehead, her own eyes glassy with tears, trying so hard to stay strong and not cry in front of her little brother…she could really only manage one phrase
“I love you” the words coming out as a choking whisper. Harry squeezed her hand as hard as he could, as if to tell her “it’s ok”
It was much harder when it came to CJ. Callista Jane, his baby sister, she really did look younger to him. Her features looking more innocent and child-like as she held her brother close and cried into his shoulder
“Please don’t leave” she cried. Harry let a few of his own tears fall as he whispered “…I’m sorry” he couldn’t make that promise, he knew his time was coming, that no one could do anything about it…all he could do was apologize
Harry’s last day was peaceful. It was just him and Uma in the captain’s quarters, she held his hand while he looked into her eyes and smiled, it was a weak one, but he could still see her and that’s all he needed. Uma didn’t let him talk, she knew it’d be too much energy for him and she wanted to spend as much time with him as possible, however much time that was
Harry managed to muster enough strength to tuck a piece of Uma’s hair behind her ear, he always loved her hair. Seeing those teal waves always made his day, whenever she asked him, he’d help her braid it, he loved watching it blow in the wind…he’d miss that…he’d miss her
It took some convincing, but Harry got Uma to lay with him, wanting to hold her one last time. She had her head on his chest and his face was buried in her hair, taking in that one last smell of the sea. They laid in silence, coming to terms with the inevitable. Uma took to listening to Harry’s heartbeat. It was uneven and strained, like his body was fighting to keep going. She began to notice a pattern
One, two…three, four. For every two beats, there was a pause, almost like a very slow, ticking time bomb of death, she stayed on his chest for the rest of the day, her tears falling on his skin as the pattern broke…and his heartbeat faded
One, two…three, four
One, two…three…four
One, two…three…
One, two…
One…
Numb, that’s what she felt, Uma felt numb. She felt Harry’s hand still wrapped around her arm, it felt cold and empty. She slowly moved his arm and sat up, she stroked his cheek…and she moved a little closer
Maybe, just maybe…
…Maybe the fairytales are right…
Ooooo~ it’s open ended~ you decide how it ends! Is this penance for writing this sappy piece of shit? Yes, do I regret it? We’ll see in the morning! If I made you cry that means I did my job. If you’re wondering “Bucket, where did you get this demented idea?” I couldn’t tell you, but I hope you liked it! Even if I just made you sob

Huma mini comic-sometimes all you need is a hug
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have no context-i just thought about sad/stressed/overwhelmed harry and Uma giving him a hug cuz he needs one. Auradon can be a lot for someone who spent all their life being taught one way-only to be quickly switched around and taught the other way with practically no down time between the two
also i felt like drawing huma-i never draw hugs so hopefully it looks good heh

Promise Me
Surprise @callous-and-misunderstood! I’m your @descendantsgiftexchange Secret Santa 😊 I’m so sorry this is late, I was asked to step in to gift you a little late in the game. But I do hope this angst/fluff Isle Jaylos fic is good enough to make up for the lateness. You deserve the best! I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
AO3 Link
Looking back, Jay knows they made a mistake.
Planning to arrive at the docks before sunrise wasn’t a bad idea, per se. They had to try to be first to get their hands on Auradon’s after-Christmas spoils. There’s no better haul, especially when it comes to the heaps on heaps of food that are piled in it, all better quality than the usual, barely edible waste that’s dumped on the isle the rest of the year. This is all clearly party-level shit, with random herbs and plants lying all over it for garnish, along with the occasional gold and fancy dinner plate or serving tray. It was considered the feast of the year for any and every Isle-goer.
And Jay, Carlos, Evie, and Mal were all on track to arrive for the shipment early as hell. Half of the Isle was still sleeping, and they were going to have their pick of the delivery. That’s a win, for sure.
But maybe cutting through pirate territory wasn’t their best plan of action. Though it’s undoubtedly the fastest way to get to the docks, it’s always guarded. Uma doesn’t let even a second pass without someone from her crew keeping a lookout on every corner. Ignoring an easy route to opt for what they thought would be the fastest was the start of their downfall and ultimately the reason they’re being chased right now.
It didn’t take long for Jonas to spot them just outside an alley, and his shouts alerted most of the crew, including Gil, and of course, Harry, who never turns down a chance for a chase. Especially when it’s Mal’s group.
Harry looks crazed in the dulled orange haze of the early morning sunrise. He’s cackling like a wildman and swinging his sword every which way, forcing Gil and Jonas to dodge its blade as they try to keep chase next to him. And between Harry’s ruckus, Evie’s wails, and Carlos’ screams, the commotion they’re making is enough to wake up the rest of the Isle before they even reach the docks.
It’s not like this is new, though. Truthfully, this type of interaction is pretty much standard practice anytime they risk an encounter with the pirates.  And it could have easily ended like all the others, with little to no bodily harm and leaving them plenty of time to collect when the shipment arrived. So, Jay really had no reason to worry. Yet.
It’s when Mal decides to cut across a frozen portion of the water, a move Jay’s sure she thought would be the best way to quickly shake the pirates off their tail, that it all goes terribly wrong.
They’re not paying attention to the strength of the ice. But Jay realizes that far too late to do anything about it. He feels the solid surface giving way under his feet as he runs, and when his heel breaks through for a moment he falters, stumbling himself closer to land as his feet scramble for purchase on ground that can hold him. When he finally steadies himself on a piece of rocky shore, his eyes are already frantically searching the ice.
He sees Evie immediately, less than a foot away from him. She’s already sprawled onto her stomach to spread out her weight, and Jay can easily grab her by the hand and slide her back in. She gives him a grateful, weak half-smile as her fingers grasp tightly to the exposed earth.
When Jay’s head shoots back up, he breathes a sigh of relief at the sight of Mal’s body arcing in the air, landing just a few feet ahead on frozen ground.
He’s about to smile as he makes a final scan with his eyes, until he finally catches sight of Carlos…and his heart drops.
It’s only a split second before Carlos disappears under the surface. Jay doesn’t even hear the ice break, but he’s gone and there’s a hole where he was standing. And Jay is already running.
His heart is thrumming so loud in his ears that he can’t make out the sounds around him. There’s a dull ringing that he can only assume is Evie screaming, but he only hears it for a moment before his body is disappearing in the shock-ice-cold of the frozen water beneath them. His body almost forgets how to move once it’s submerged in the frigid temperatures, but he forces himself to kick his way down, his arms pushing away debris and tiny ice chunks as he goes.
He knows Carlos sank like a stone. He’s never learned to swim. He’s never had to, like most of the kids that are trapped on an island with little to no access to the surrounding waters.
Jay’s grateful now that he decided to teach himself so he could gain better access to trinkets or cargo lost in the water. It was a bonus trick he thought he could use on occasion, to be able to grab extra bits for Jafar and the shop. It’s come in handy quite a few times, but never more so than in this moment.
He’s been under for a good minute now. His legs are starting to fail and his lungs feel like they could burst. He keeps his lips pressed as tightly as he can, flailing out his arms everywhere to feel for anything he could grab onto. The water is so murky he can barely see in front of his face.
He knows that finding Carlos might be a one-in-a-million shot, but there’s no way he’s giving up. He’d rather die down in the dirty depths of this disease-ridden water than even entertain the thought of never making Carlos smile again. Or hearing his laugh, which always starts off soft, but builds in heartiness the harder Jay works for it. Or looking into the deepest, darkest most soulful brown eyes he’s ever seen, that could take his breath away every time if he let them.
Maybe I should have let them, Jay thinks now, since his breath is almost gone anyway. Colors are swirling behind his eyelids, and he’s feeling faint. He knows this might be his last chance, so he gives his legs one last hard kick, stretching his arms out as far as they’ll go in front of him.
And he’s rewarded with a thick sleeve. He’d know that leather anywhere, with thick buckles at the wrist to keep them tight, and an extra loop inside to hold Carlos’ switchblade.
Jay almost shrieks with joy, but fights the urge to avoid swallowing in water before he can get Carlos to the surface. Once he’s sure he has a fully supported grip on his sleeve, Jay starts to pull them upward with all the strength he still has left.
It’s a slow trek, hindered additionally by the fact that Jay’s heart feels ready to give out. His body’s moving on instinct now, his one free hand digging through the chunky ice water while his legs kick at a steady pace. It seems like an eternity, but when his fingers break through to frigid air he exhales a deep sigh of relief, and tugs a now wriggling Carlos up to the surface.
The boy in his arms sputters and gasps immediately, and Jay is so elated he just wants to give him the most crushing hug, to feel his heart and breath alive and close to his chest.
But before he can do anything Carlos is ripped from his arms. His eyes follow his body as he starts to slide away on his stomach, Evie gripping him tightly by the wrists. Jay’s only focus is on them until he starts to feel a tug under his own arms. He’s too shocked to process what’s happening, and then he’s being dragged out of the hole in the ice. But he recognizes Mal’s grumbling tone right away.
“Fuck, you idiot! I wish you gave us a chance to help you. Thank evil you’re ok!”
She groans when she finally slumps them both back onto the shore, panting heavily. She slings Jay next to her, and he grunts when he rolls onto the dirt, his wet strings of hair tangling into the rocks and sand. He couldn’t care less though, he’s already pushing himself onto his hands and flicking hair out of his face, his eyes frantically searching the shore.
He spots Carlos just a few feet in front of him, sprawled across Evie’s lap. He can see his chest rising and falling heavily, sucking in deep breaths while Evie pushes the damp curls out of his face.
Jay exhales, his body physically relaxing at the sight of Carlos breathing. He barely hears Mal’s muttered, “You’re welcome!” before he starts to shuffle across the ice to them, still on his hands and knees.
“Jay!” Evie scolds, her eyes wide. “We need to get you both warm! What are you doing?!”
Jay ignores her, instead reaching for Carlos. It only takes him a few seconds to lift him out of her lap and  into his arms, his neck and the backs of his knees cradled softly between Jay’s elbows.
His muscles protest a bit, and he groans at the resistance when he tries to straighten himself. The movement shocks Carlos to full consciousness, and he gasps and wraps his arms around Jay’s neck for support.
“J-Jay? What’s…what, are you d-doing?” Carlos head whips around, spotting Evie and then Mal, both motionless and gawking at them.
“Are…where…”
Before Carlos can finish his thought, Jay squeezes him tightly, pressing him as close to his body as he can, and suddenly breaks off into a full sprint. Carlos yelps, tightening his grip and gaping in surprise as the girls quickly disappear from his view.
“Jay! Put. Me. Down! I can walk!”
Jay just shakes his head and continues to run with Carlos tucked into him firmly.
“No, can do, ‘Los,” he tells him, turning the corner towards their hideout. “You need to be somewhere where we can warm you up. Don’t worry, Mal’ll figure it out and bring Evie with her. They’ll be fine.”
He glances down at Carlos for a brief moment, breaking into a smile when he sees brown eyes looking back at him.
“Just, relax. Ok? I’m gonna take care of you.”
 -----
Carlos is groggy when he finally wakes up.
Slowly, he props himself up on his elbows, blinking at the soft, filmy light that’s filtering in through the window. Just next to it, Mal is sitting at the table, poking at something with a butter knife. And beside her, Evie is flopped across the same table, sleeping soundly. They both look…surprisingly dry. Wearing new, dry clothes and combing through their wet hair makes them look…clean, and fresh. As if their morning ordeal had never even happened.
And Carlos is surprised at how warm and dry he feels, too. He doesn’t remember changing out of his wet clothes. Actually, he doesn’t remember much after Jay brought him back to the hideout and demanded he stay put on the couch for the rest of the day. As much as Carlos wanted to voice his protest, his body wouldn’t allow for it. He passed out almost immediately once his head hit the cushions.
“Pup!”
Carlos is jostled from his thoughts when Mal approaches, hastily plopping herself on the couch and instantly launching into a thorough examination. Carlos grunts, pushing at her chest when he squeezes her chin and pulls him toward her, peering into his eyes and using her free hand to pluck up his eyelids.
“Mal, back off already!” He pushes against her chest again, and this time she falls back a little and releases his chin. Still, she’s quick to lean in again, one hand pressing on his knee to lift her gaze, her eyes continuing to skim appraisingly over his eyes and face.
“I’m fine. I swear,” he tries to reassure her. He places his hand over hers on his knee, but pulls back a little when he encounters something fluffy and soft, like animal fur.
Fur??
His head drops to his lap, completely unable to hide his shocked expression. There’s a literal fur on him! He starts to scoot himself away, careful not to touch it, until Mal’s arm shoots out and grips his wrist. She’s shaking her head furiously and tries to pull him back in.
“No! Carlos, it’s fake! Not real! Look-” she brushes her hand along the fur, then sweeps open his palm and brings it down to the blanket. It’s…bushy. And a little scratchy. It’s soft enough to mimic fur, but Carlos has seen enough of the real thing to feel confident that this…this isn’t it.
“It’s a fake fur blanket. Jay found it today at the docks.”
Carlos is still smoothing his fingers on the blanket, but Mal’s words make his ears perk up. He looks at her, furrowing his brow.
“The…docks?”
“Yeah! He went back. You know, after he knew you were-” she gestures a Carlos. “-well…ok.”
Carlos bites his lip, watching Mal’s weak smile, the hint of concern still in her eyes. He smiles at her, letting his hand rest back on hers.
“And I am, Mal. I’m ok,” he asserts, nodding at her and gently squeezing her hand.
Mal grins then, sitting up properly and offering another quick smile before casting a glance over her shoulder at Evie, who’s still sleeping.
“Oy! Princess!” She shrills suddenly, and chuckles a little when Evie’s whole body jerks and her head shoots up, eyes wide with surprise. “Pup’s awake, finally. Get your ass over here.”
Evie turns to Carlos, relaxing into a smile when she sees him sitting up and looking at her.
“Oh Carlos! Thank evil.” She moves quickly over to the couch, perching lightly on the edge of it, right next to Carlos’ hip. “How are you feeling?”
He shrugs and tilts his head to crack his neck, shaking out his arms and legs and giving his body a quick once-over.
“Fine, I think,” he says finally, giving Evie a warm smile. “I can’t believe I’m so…dry. And not cold at all. This blanket is amazing.”
Evie brightens, grabbing the blanket in her hand and stroking it between her fingers.
“Isn’t it? Jay did such an amazing job today. He got so many things! I can’t even believe it. Especially since he-“
She stops herself, biting on her finger and glancing away quickly. When she looks back, she forces herself to relax, giving Carlos a comforting smile.
“You know, since we got a late start today. And he insisted on going by himself. He wouldn’t even take Mal with him!”
“Stubborn bastard,” Mal mutters behind her, and Evie throws back a hand and pats her leg.
“Well, it all turned out fine, didn’t it? And he got some great food, too! Carlos, you have to see!”
Evie pops up then with an excited giggle, bouncing back to the table and grabbing a box sitting there.
“Look at this!” She shoves a cup into his hand.
Carlos frowns. It’s filled with a brown, mucky goo that doesn’t look appealing at all. But when Evie steadies it with her head and peels back the lid, a pleasant, sugary aroma fills his nostrils.
“It’s a pudding,” Evie explains. “I don’t know the flavor, Carlos, but it’s SO good. You’re going to love it! Just, try it!”
He perks a brow curiously, dipping a pinky into the cup to carefully scoop the smallest bit of the goo onto the pad of his finger. When it reaches his lips, he takes a tentative sniff before stealing a tiny lick with the tip of his tongue.
But even that little taste invades his mouth with a delicious sweetness. It’s sugary, smooshy, and possibly the most amazing thing he’s ever tasted. He’s quick to shovel more and more into his mouth, forgoing his finger and choosing to use his whole hand instead. His mouth is full and his fingers are absolutely coated with pudding when he hears someone clearing their throat loudly.
“Um, ‘Los?”
His eyes shoot up, and Carlos sees Jay, standing in the doorway with the quirk of a smile on his lips.
“So, I take it that means you’re feeling better?”
Carlos nods emphatically, smooshing pudding through his cheeks and doing his best to swallow it all down. He licks his fingers clean, wiping any remnants on his shorts as Jay approaches, his eyes focused only on Carlos until he’s standing right in front him. He barely notices as Mal grabs Evie’s arm to pull her away until the girl almost smacks into him.
But by the time Evie scoots away, shooting him an awkward smile and mumbled apology, he’s already back to watching Carlos intently. So much so that the boy can’t help but flush a little under Jay’s stare.
“Um, you’ve got…” Jay points at Carlos’ mouth, then ducks down to cup Carlos’ cheek in his hand. His thumb brushes his mouth gently, and Carlos’ eyes flutter at the tender touch.
Jay pulls away suddenly, and Carlos’ eyes blink back open to see him sucking the same finger into his mouth.
“Y-you had some pudding, there,” Jay makes a circle gesture at Carlos’ mouth, and the boy flusters instantly, wiping at his face with the back of his sleeve. But Jay grabs his hand to stop him.
“It’s ok. You’re good,” he says with a grin. He pulls back again and lets his hand drop. He just stands there for a significant beat, hovering over Carlos, as if wants to say, or ask, something.
Carlos smiles warmly and pats the couch next to him, a wordless invitation to which Jay immediately complies, sitting himself close enough so that they’re just barely touching.
“You-did you, change my clothes?” Carlos asks. “I just…I woke up so warm, and dry.”
“Yeah, I did! Eves helped me. Good thing we keep some stuff here at the hideout, right? I was afraid you’d freeze if we didn’t get you into something dry fast. I mean, I would have run to your house too if I had to, but it was easier-”
Jay stops when Carlos covers Jay’s hand with his own.
“I know you would. Thank you.”
Jay beams proudly, then looks down at Carlos’ hand. He turns his own to catch it, wrapping Carlos’ in his and moving to intertwine their fingers.
“I found this blanket, too, cause I wanted to keep you warm. It’s nice, isn’t it?” He touches the blanket and smiles to himself.
“And the food? I knew you’d like that pudding, but you’ve got to try the other stuff! There’s this cranberry sauce stuff that looks like jell-o but it’s actually pretty good. And I found some good loaves of bread too! And I got a shit ton of other cans of stuff. It was a pretty good haul, I think.”
“Yeah, that sounds great,” Carlos admits. His smile falters though, and he lets out a deep sigh. “I’m glad you were able to get all this stuff, even though I was a dumbass and almost drowned.”
Jay squeezes his hand tightly and purses his lips into a tight frown. “No! Don’t say that!” He blurts, shaking his head furiously. “That was NOT your fault. That could have been any of us. I almost fell through the ice too, right before you did! That was a stupid thing for us to do.”
Carlos’ lip trembles, and Jay reaches for him, pulling him close against his chest.
“Look, I’m just glad you’re ok. That’s all that matters to me. To Eves and Mal, too. Fuck, that was scary Pup.”
He strokes Carlos’s cheek, and then hooks his fingers under his chin to tip his head up to meet his eyes.
“I thought for a sec I might…lose you.”
He places a soft kiss to Carlos’ lips, which he quickly melts into, hooking a hand around Jay’s neck to pull him in for another. And another. After a prolonged minute, Jay starts to push Carlos down to the couch, but he’s stopped by loud grunts of protest behind him.
Carlos chuckles, his face turning red as he glances at Mal and Evie over Jay’s shoulder, sitting at the table just a few feet from him. He’s quick to plant his hands and push himself back upright, despite Jay’s disappointed groans.
“Look, we’re all glad Pup’s ok, Jay-Jay, but that doesn’t mean I’m down for some live porn viewing, ok?” Mal teases, laughing and lurching away when Evie swats her arm. “What?! You want to see it?”
“Don’t be vulgar,” Evie hisses. “But you don’t have to be mean, either. We’re just, all happy that Carlos is safe, that’s all.”
“Yeah Mal,” Jay tuts. “At least Evie’s ok with me showing Carlos how happy I am. Cockblocker.”
He sticks his tongue out at Mal’s fake gags, but smiles triumphantly when Evie finally yanks her up to drag her out the door. When the door shuts behind them, he turns back to Carlos with a winning smile and a wink.
“Now Jay…” Carlos starts, putting a hand to his chest. But instead of diving back in, Jay just clasps Carlos’ hand there, and starts to rub it softly with his thumb.
“It’s fine, you know I like fucking with Mal. You know we don’t have to do anything. But-”
His eyes trail down to Carlos’ lips, focusing on them for a moment before meeting his eyes again.
“Can you just, do one thing for me?”
“Of course,” Carlos replies instantly. “Anything.”
Jay smiles at that, his thumb still moving mindlessly across Carlos’ skin.
“Just, promise me you won’t die, ok? I can put up with a lot of shit on this island, but not that. I can deal with fucking anything but that.”
Carlos breaks into a wide smile, choking back a laugh of surprise. He can’t stop himself from leaning back in then, and pressing a firm kiss to Jay’s lips.
“How about, I promise to do everything in my power not to die, ok? But only if you promise me, too.”
Jay grins, and pulls Carlos in closer by his elbow until their foreheads are touching.
“You’ve got yourself a deal, Pup.”

Concept design for Jayden Shiba as he appears in discussions me and my friend, @dani-luminae , have about the AU we have going on Dani's fic, Love From The Stars.
Hailing from a family of pirates, Jayden Shiba like a-lot of pirates when Auradon was formed, was banished to the Isle of The Lost alongside his wife, Alexandria, something both hated and longed to be freed from and go back to travelling the world again. This hate and longing would lead to the pair meeting the imprisoned god, Hades, who recruited pirates like Jayden and Alexandria to help with a scheme to escape the Isle. It didn't work, of course. Plans like that never work on the Isle. But during all this, Alexandria would ultimately end up spending a night with Hades, something Jayden wasn't against, given the couples open relationship nature and therefore, list of lovers on both sides. But while both were aware due to lack of any good protection supplies on the Isle, both are caught off guard still by Alexandria finding herself pregnant from her night with Hades, with Alexandria caught off guard the most. And despite Jayden, after the initial shock, being fine keeping the baby, Alexandria ultimately feared the baby and its potential too much. And as a result of this, only a few hours after the baby was born, Alexandria would come to the decision to abandon the baby on Hades' doorstep, and while Jayden and her were iffy with each other for a bit after that, both still remained together as both still loved each other at the end of it all, but both after the baby were more careful with their lovers if they continued to have those.
But eventually during their time on the Isle, tragedy would strike when Alexandria became deathly ill and despite Jayden's best efforts to keep her alive, she would ultimately pass away, leaving Jayden bitter towards Auradon even when freed finally alongside everyone else on the Isle, unable to forget Alexandria's death and how it could have been prevented if they had the right medication on the Isle. Choosing to not join a crew, Jayden would travel the world like normal, but in a more slow way, unable to find the adventure in it anymore without Alexandria. One day though, Jayden finds himself being tracked down by that very same baby that had been abandoned with Hades, now a teenager going by the name of Reese, who in her search for answers on her mom, found Jayden...

I finally updated again.
I have the silly little gay people in my fic being angsty again. Check it out if you love gay people or are sad beyond mortal comprehension! I will say, I ended at a slightly weird note, but there is a reason, all to be revealed next chapter. Have I got yall interested yet?
Tumblr media
Nah but for real, I'm actually going to try and be more consistent because I love this fandom and I'm proud of what I've created and what I'll continue to make. I'm not planning on giving up on this fic anytime soon, even if updates are sporadic right now.
In other news:
Tumblr media
Let me know what you think! Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated! Just don't be mean about it; I'm sensitive, Audrey!

Sorry, but I had an ask/prompt for @bunny-lou and the introduction took up a whole ask so it would have taken 80 separate asks to get all this out and no, I feel awkward enough sending this. So we’re making a post and sending the post instead, so this will be long so if you follow me and don’t care, I’m sorry for making you scroll a mile to get through this. But it is a Descendants fic idea, and while I was sending it to bunny-lou because that’s where the inspiration came from, if it inspires you, have at it
Hey @bunny-lou This is going to be long and awkward, but I came up with a similar prompt type thing a while ago based on the description of Wednsday's Child and your original prompt, but never got around to sending it to you (my mind is mush), but you just shared your Carlos left behind on the Isle fics so it seemed like an opening, lol.
Part of what held me off is I feel awkward sending ideas to fic writers? I always feel like I'm demanding work from them, so to be clear you don't have to do anything with this (especially since this is LONG, like multichapter, and you have your own stories to work on, which I am excited for, especially for more Grin and Bear It, but also remember there's no rush. This is supposed to be fun for you, not something you dred. You don't owe us anything, and we'll be here waiting regardless, xoxo) especially because if it turned into something it's probably be multichapter like Wednesday's Child. But you influenced this so I wanted to send it to you. But I digress.
Postwriting Edit: I typed this out before hand so it would flow and make sense since I thought I’d have to send it in parts, but it got LONG. Feel free to ignore this, you probably have better things to do.
Because it starts the same: Mal, Evie, and Jay are sent to Auradon but Carlos is left behind. They promise to come back for him, time passes, and they don't. How it diverges from Wendsday's Child is that he stays loyal to his friends allies (because you can't have friends on the Isle, even if in his heart of hearts that's what he sees them as) which obviously causes him to be more or a target. Because Uma's crew will target him for being part of Mal's crew, Cruella is still a living hell, maybe Jafar and EQ are mad at him because Jay and Evie turned good, and didn't he know? Did he influence them? It's all his fault isn't it! Plus just the rest of the Isle who is mad at Mal for defecting. But Carlos trusts Mal. There's got to be a reason they haven't got him yet, political BS and all that, he just has to be patient and wait and survive.
And then D2 happens. Mal comes back to the Isle because she doesn't feel like herself, but time away romanticized it. She remembers being powerful and on top and doing whatever s he wants, but not the literal horrors. Until she gets to her hideout and Carlos is there, probably patching up some new injuries from any other those mentioned above, and she realizes, oh shit, it is terrible here. And Carlos is terrified when he hears someone coming becuase this is his one safe space on the Isle, and what will he do if it's gone, so he's ready to fight, even though he's probably in pain. But then Mal comes in. And he's so happy to see her. And he runs to greet her, is a hug too much? She chose good and is an Auradonian now, and he doesn't realize it but Mal is just hit with the weight of leaving him and not getting him over. And she's here to be Not Good again but here's Carlos, barely-living proof of the side of the Isle she forgot. But he doesn't notice her internal struggle because he's So Happy she's back. And he askes about Evie and Jay and she asks about what happened to him and he explains. But he's off hand about all the abuse, and focuses more on how everyone is mad at her, and Jafar and EQ and Cruella are particularly mad and would be after her if they know she's here, not to mention all the other citizens who see her as a traitor. And so Mal changes her plan. She's not just here to let loose anymore, she's here to protect Carlos and make sure No One hurts him again.
So things go on like they were in the movie, but with Carlos there. Maybe he goes to her to Dizzy's to get her hair dyed, becuase he doesn't want to let her out of his sight (and Mal doesn't want him out of her sight either) and Dear Dizzy is probably one of the only people who isn't terrible to him (maybe they bond over his cat, Beelzebub (because remember her? She's mentioned one in the first book but never again, but I think about her every day) because she's Lucifer's kitten and she can't live at Hell House with CRUELLA DE VIL (Why is that a thing in the book? She doesn't care about her son, let alone his pet. She'd see her as new fur) so she stays with Dizzy where it's safe (relatively speaking)). And Mal gets her hair back and all is good, but then Harry comes in, and along with stealing from Dizzy he pushes Carlos over of something, (idk the level of abuse but there's always something done when one of the pirates see him, and maybe he's not worth the effort of an actual beating at the moment but he's doing something to hurt Carlos). And the Mal comes out fuming, and yeah, he better tell Uma she's here because she's coming for them and her territory and to avenge Carlos.
So they're back in their hideout, and Carlos has to get back to Hell House to do chores, Cruella is going to be so mad and he's panicking, but Mal definitely won't let him out of her sight now. Let her come, she says, I'll take her, and maybe she's still painting and he's just enjoying watching her and and being with his friend leader again, when they hear someone else coming up (because really? Ben just sneaks up on Mal in the movie? Living on the Isle would have given her more acute senses than that, and it's not like Ben is used to a life of sneaking around), and Carlos is ready to fight for Mal, because it's got to be someone after her, and Mal is ready to kill for Carlos, because NO ONE is hurting him again, but then it's Ben. And he see's Carlos, and it hits him how the Isle is worse than he could ever imagine, and he thought what he saw coming to the hideout was bad. And he's awkward and put off by what he sees, but manages to get out how he came to talk to Mal. And sweet Carlos realizes this is an alone moment and starts to leave, but Mal is still worried about him being on his own, but she doesn't want to SAY that, because even if she's better with her emotions and will admit Carlos is her friend (though she hasn't, because he thinks he know, but does he really? Or does he think he's just useful to her and that he cares about them more than they do him) she doesn't want to belittle him and have him think she thinks he can't handle himself, so she tells him to hold on and askes Ben how even got to the Isle, because why wasn't that her first question? And doesn't he know how dangerous it is for him to be here? And Ben mentions Evie and Jay brought him and guarding him, and Carlos is So Excited and runs down, because his his big sister and brother (or crush or boyfriend, if this is a Jaylos story, I just tend to lean towards the 4 being a family, but whatever works and floats your boat) and he's missed them So Much.
So Ben's talks to Mal, still in shock actually seeing Carlos, but he's here to apologize to Mal, and he needs her to know he means it, and it's the same conversation, she tried, he'll change, she doesn't want him to change, and that proves she's just inherently bad for him. Maybe she laughs at the "people love you" line, because they love the fake image she made for herself, not who she really is. And she says she's doing what's best for Ben and Auradon, but she also says she's staying and protecting her family, and tells Ben to go, and so he does.
And meanwhile Carlos is reuniting with Evie and Jay and he's So Happy to see them and they're hit with the same feelings Mal had, What have we done? We abandoned our brother? And to add salt in the wound, he doesn't notice, so excited to see them, and when they bring up how they're sorry they haven't come to get him he brushes them off, because of course there's a good reason, and he can keep waiting. And he just, doesn't doubt them, doesn't even consider they just forgot about him. And they're too ashamed to tell him that's what it was, that they were too caught up in their new happy lives, and Carlos has already moved on that they have to be extra careful, because everyone is pissed at them and will be out for them, especially their parents, oh how their parents are mad at them. But that's when Ben comes down, dejected, and he's smart enough to be vague, just saying she didn't change her mind, not mentioning Carlos's part in all her decision to stay because he can already tell Carlos would be guilty for being the reason, and he doesn't know the lay of the land with this kid, but he knows he's important to Mal and Evie and Jay and he doesn't want to say something wrong and cause a rift, so he'll just wait and ask questions later.
But Evie says she'll go up and talk to Mal, because Mal is not staying, especially since Carlos told them it's even more dangerous for them. They're leaving and they're taking Carlos with them. But she goes up right away, she doesn't ask first, so it's just Carlos and Jay with Ben. So maybe they pirates do an actual attack to take Ben, becuase he's weak and they already know where Carlos is weakest, they just gave him a thorough beating the other day, so that just leaves Jay. So they split up to attack the three, but Jay is most worried about protecting Carlos, because why didn't he realize how much he missed him? And he's already hurt, he can't let him get worse. But that's how they can get Ben away so easily (because again, really, all their lives of knowing there surrounding go out the window after being in Auradon for a little bit? No, they would have noticed Ben being taken). Probably Harry puts in a few verbal hits about Carlos being weak and Jay leaving him behind as he gives the message for Mal to meet Uma.
Obviously Mal is mad, dong her "why did you bring him here bit" to Evie and Jay, but then there's Carlos, off to the side, blaming himself, even though Mal is trying to clearly direct her anger at the others and not him. But he failed to protect Ben, and he distracted Jay so he to failed protecting Ben by worrying over him and protecting him instead, and Carlos has seen the news, he knows Mal loves Ben, and now he just let the person most important to her get away (because years of being put down on the Isle by everyone, especially Cruella, he's not going to believe he's more important, or even equally important to her as Ben. He probably has a hard time believing Mal keeps him around for any reason other than being useful. But that doesn't matter, because Mal chose him for her crew and he loves them, even if they don't love him, which they obviously do but you can't just say that on the Isle, he will do whatever he can for them, give his iife for them). Probably when Evie says they wanted to protect Ben, Carlos points out it's his fault and apologizes to Mal, and they all assure him it's not his fault, but that doesn't change how he feels. So they plan, and Mal goes to meet Uma alone, and Carlos sure isn't going to force going along if she doesn't want him. She's his leader, what she says goes, and he doesn't want to mess things up further.
So Mal chats with Uma, it goes mostly the same, but when the arm wrestling starts, Uma brings up how she never bought the goody act, that her evil streak was clearly still there, what with how she left and forgot about Carlos, leaving him alone to die, rubbing in how that is the most evil thing she's done, telling he how Carlos never once waivered from her loyalty and has hell to pay ten times over for it, but Mal hasn't given one thought to him, has she, busy living her perfect life in Auradon. Probably bring up just some of the abuse he's been through because of Mal to taunt her, and that's what makes breaks and loose arm wrestling.
So Mal goes back and tells the others Uma's demand, leaving out the how because there's no way she's letting Carlos know is was because he was brought up that distracted her. She's not having him blaming himself for her weakness, like he's already doing with Ben's kidnapping, but at the same time she's thinking of what Uma has said happened to him, and how that's only a small part of what he's been through. Evie comes up with the 3D printer, because she may lean more towards chemistry than tech but she's still thinks it's cool. Plus she's the easiest to believe out of the three who would know about it. It must belong to the school instead of just Carlos, since Carlos isn't there. But this Carlos, his eyes light up when he hears about and Evie explains what it is and does, because it's sound so cool! Auradon must be a blast if they have cool toys like that! Maybe someone will throw one out one day and it'll land on the Isle and he can fix it up! (Cue more gilt for the other three)
But the teams have to change, since Carlos would have to stay on the Isle (RIP Space Between, you'll be fit in another time. Maybe once they're back in Auradon but before the Cotillion. I'm not quitting you). But that's okay, because Carlos is really smart too, and he knows enough about chemistry from the little Isle education gave him to make smoke bombs with Mal, so Evie and Jay go back to make the wand. (Idk about this part, the closest I've got is that they figure it out because Evie's so smart and if CHAD can figure it out, or she confided in Doug and he knows how to use it). Lonnie still find out and goes back to the Isle with them (and she meets Carlos and she tries to be cool, but she cried during the cookies at just the idea that villains don't love their kinds, but now she's seeing it) but Carlos just glows meeting her, because she's nice (did you notice Lonnie is the only one genuinely nice to the VKs in the first movie? Ben too, but you can argue he had to since they were his project, so to speak, and we know that's not why, but it can still be said, but Jane is obviously nice (pre family day) because she's scared of them and Doug is only nice because he's supporting Ben, and also probably scared of them) and she's not assuming he's evil because he's a VK, plus he's Mal and Evie and Jay's friend, so he can't be bad. Also, look at him for a second and you know he's not evil, and she's not blind, she can see that, although no children belong there, Carlos especially doesn't. And Carlos is so excited to meet another one of his family’s gang's friends, especially since he didn't really get to talk to Ben. (Lonnie immediately joins the "We Are Getting This Child Out Of Here" club).
And the rescue goes almost the same, but there's no Dude to talk, so maybe Carlos thinks that Uma will want proof of the wand being real beforehand and makes something techy to create the illusion of magic. And they get out as it's falling to pieces. Maybe they shove Carlos in the limo, but more likely he offers himself as a distraction so they can escape, because he knows he can't just leave, it has to be official and all that and he doesn't want to get his friends in trouble (he probably gets beat up again in the process).
And so the movie resolves the same, except they immediately after the Cotillion they go themselves, with royal guards, to take Carlos back to Auradon. Ben had a talk with  Mal, Evie, and Jay, he learns who Carlos is, how important he is to them, how guilty they feel for leaving him, and decides he's getting that boy out NOW, red tape be damned. He uses the fact that Carlos helped save his life on the Isle to speed things up (and with him and Lonnie vouching for him he has two AKs support). He's probably at Hell House, doing chores and getting abused by Cruella when all these important Auradonians come him and take her son, and she's going crazy because her that's her servant, who will do everything for her? But Carlos is free, maybe Mal slaps her as payback for what she put Carlos through (because she can't just kill her. Ben is there, and royal guards. Plus, she knows how complicated their feelings are for their parents, and while she hates Cruella with a passion and would be glad to see her dead, she doesn't know how that would effect Carlos, so she leaves Cruella be. For now). And while Carlos is happy to be getting out of that hellhole, he's even more excited to be reunited with Mal and Evie and Jay again (he probably apologizes to Ben for getting him captured in the first place, and inside Ben's, like, wtf, why would he blame himself for that, getting another view of how damaging the Isle is). Maybe they stop to give Dizzy her invitation and pick up Beelzebub, because he's going to need a support animal and it won't be Dude because he'll still be terrified of dogs (plus you can't convince me he would just leave his pet and replace her with Dude. He got Bub to Auradon somehow, even if neither the books of movie mention her again).
And then the new adventure begins: Carlos adapting to Auradon life, actually getting a proper education for that beautiful big brain, seeing all the cool things Auradon has, processing his trauma, and unlearning all the negative things he was told about himself on the Isle, but he's back with his friends, and he's okay.
Dear Lord, this got long. Kudos to you if you actually spend the time reading all this, lol

“Why are you every-fucking-where.” Y/N stopped short, glaring at the man across from her. The entire party, she had been trying to avoid him- but he wasn’t letting that be at all possible.
Harry grinned widely at that, the most obnoxious and infuriatingly pretty smile with those stupid dimples. Leaning against the wall as he studied her for a good moment, there was no hiding the not so casual enjoyment he got out of flustering her.
Finally, he broke the silence, standing up from his casually cool stance on the wall. She knew he was going to say something that annoyed her and it was proven as he opened his mouth. "C’mon, don’t be like that. Perhaps you just can't keep me off your mind, baby girl. Can’t stop thinking about me, seeing me everywhere…"
“Ew. Do not call me that.” She wrinkled her nose in disgust for the nickname, walking past him. He followed, of course, because he always did. “Just because we have a few similar friends doesn’t mean you need to be at every social event. I’d love a break from your smug face.”
"You can't possibly be getting tired of this handsome face already…" He protested as he followed behind, his words purposely trying to rile her up. Getting a rise out of her seemed to make his whole day, and usually she would laugh it off but this time… things were different. Finding a spot in the kitchen, he watched as she puttered around trying not to look at him.
His eyes danced with amusement as he added in some more. "Or are you just mad that I always seem to steal the show, love? Not my fault that I'm effortlessly charming and captivating, darling."
“Humble, too.” She snorted, grabbing a drink from the cooler. Buzzballs were not the thing she’d want to choose when she was thinking about the next morning, but they were exactly what she needed when it came to trying to mentally escape right now. “You’re insufferable. Really.” His eyes were on her as she used her nail to pop open the cap.
“So are you going to leave me alone, or follow me around all night?”
Harry chuckled in amusement at her sarcasm, enjoying the way she rolled your eyes at him. "Leave you alone when you look this lovely? Not a chance in hell, darling." He hummed, tapping his own bottle against the counter. He paid no mind to the new people who entered the space, eyes glued on the girl he was talking to. "But as much as I'd love to keep annoying you, I have a much better way we could spend time. Don't you remember, love?" He purred. “I certainly do. It’s hard to forget the way it feels when you moan-” The interruption was instant, her hand gripping onto him.
“Harry…” she hissed, tugging his arm further down the dark hallway and into a bedroom. Who’s? She didn’t know. All she knew was that she had seen where this was going, and she didn’t want him to say it too loudly. Everyone was so god damn nosy and respectfully, she didn’t want to deal with any of that. Not after all she had said.
“Listen.” Putting her hands on her hips, she tilted her head up at him as he stood a little too close. “We hooked up, it was a mistake. You know it.” Though it didn’t seem like he thought so considering how he trailed her ever since. “We… we were a little drunk and I was lonely and you were there.”
Y/N knew she was slightly lying, but she was trying to fool herself. If she said it enough times, maybe she’d believe it. They’d always had chemistry. It was intensity that burned between them, her disdain and his addiction to getting a rise out of her. It was only a matter of time that they’d give into some sort of blow out- but she hadn’t expected it to be as good as it was. It couldn’t happen again.
Harry had that knowing smirk on his face as she tried to deny it all, knowing exactly where this was headed. The thrill of chasing her, of getting under her skin was intoxicating, addicting. He loved making her growl and huff and glare at him, because it meant getting her undivided attention.
"Was it really a mistake?" He asked as he leaned against the door, finally giving her some breathing room.  "Or have you just been avoiding me because you couldn't stop thinking about it?"
The truth was that he had been thinking about that night ever since. Multiple times. Before he went to sleep, when he was in the shower.. It was hard not to.
Her jaw clenched, placing her bottle down and crossing her arms. “Look. You’re hot, Harry. You don’t need me to tell you that. You’ve got plenty big of an ego. But I’ve been avoiding you because it can not happen again.”
Y/N knew that Nina was into Harry and she really didn’t want to start any drama. Not that he even seemed remotely into her, but because she acted like he was someone she had dibs on. As gross as it was, she tended to start shit with anyone Harry pursued and she just wasn’t in the season for drama. There were other things to worry about other than start a feud over a man.
He had known about Nina's crush on him, but he didn't care about her. He never had, and he never would. As fucked up as it was, what they had, in his mind, was just a harmless flirtation, nothing more. Y/N knew that, but Nina didn’t. He couldn't have been more clear he had no interest in her, but some people took delusion to heart.
It didn’t matter how good Harry gave it to her last time, how hard her legs shook, how sore she was in the best way. Didn’t matter if his tongue was hot and through and how he’d cleaned her up with it. It couldn’t be repeated.
Harry's smirk only widened as she openly admitted he was attractive, his ego inflating even more. But when she mentioned avoiding him, his smile faltered slightly.
"Why can't it happen again?" He asked, moving closer to her, his eyes darkened. Too close, making her take a deep breath. If there was one thing he would give him, his presence was commanding. Felt. Her body was very familiar with his now, wanting to lean into him, but she fought it.
“Because.” She sighed tiredly. “I really can’t deal with any drama. I’m exhausted, and the last thing I need is that she-devil going after me because she thinks I’m ‘stealing her man.’ “
The man let out a laugh, amused by the comment. Yeah, he knew exactly who she was referring to and found it funny. He knew she could be a drama queen, and he definitely didn't care for her possessive tendencies, but he had told her that they had nothing going on between them and never would.
He stepped closer to her, his greedy hands reaching out to touch her hips, his touch firm. "You're not stealing me, love. She never had me, and she's delusional if she thinks she does." His eyes gleamed with desire as he looked at her, his touch becoming a bit more possessive in his own way. "And I want you, not her."
“Harry, you don’t actually want me.” She groaned in frustration, trying to ignore how her tummy dropped as he pulled her into him, his other hand curling around her jaw. Stupid body, stupid hormones, stupid muscle memory.  “You think you do because you like a chase. You don’t actually like me or anything, you like how I fuck.” She said bluntly, glancing up at him.
Harry's smug expression faltered as she protested. He could feel the annoyance, but he also noticed the way her body responded to his touch. There was no denying that. "Is that what you really think?" He asked, his grip on her jaw tightening slightly as he looked down at her. "That I'm just chasing you only for the thrill of the chase, for the sex?"
His eyes darkened, his other hand moving lower on her hip, pulling her flush against him. He could feel her body against his, the softness, the warmth, and he wanted it all back. There had been no way she could tell him that she hadn’t enjoyed it, considering he’d made her cum 3 times, made her gush all over his cock. She’d clung to him, held onto him, whimpered his name. But he’d taken care of her, he had gotten her some pomegranate juice and a snack, helped her tie her hair up, driven her home. When the contact had been nonexistent, he was hoping she was just making him work for it- but that wasn’t all this was to him.
“Yeah.” She furrowed her brows. “Is it not?” Harry wasn’t the relationship type, not usually. Everyone knew that. Y/N had constantly reminded herself that when they’d first met and she had a bit of a crush on him, only to see that he liked to fuck em’ and leave ‘em. It lost the appeal and she had resented him a bit for it.
Was it fair? No. She knew that. But their dynamic had been built on that resentment.
Harry's jaw clenched at her response, frustration and something else flickering in his face. He loosened his grip on her slightly, his gaze searching her eyes, trying to convey something she obviously wasn’t picking up on.
"And what if I told you that you were wrong?" He asked, his voice low. "What if I told you that there's more to me than just chase and sex?" He tilted his face closer to hers, his hand on her hip keeping her snug. He hadn't realized it himself just how touch deprived for her he actually was. Did she really think it was all just… a game? Had he not proven himself to her that night? Granted, he had maybe fucked up in how he communicated after but… the ball had been put in her court.
He could tell that she was skeptical, but he was determined to make her believe him.
"I want you." He said firmly, his hand on her jaw moving to wrap around the back of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair. "I want everything. Your body, your mind, your heart." His hand on her hip moved lower, his touch a little needy. "And the fact that I can't have you is driving me insane. Want you to believe me."
“But why?” She sputtered. “All we do is argue. All I do is blow you off and all you do is follow me around to piss me off.”
She had no idea he had his own fascination with her. How he’d silently watched her, observed, saw how she was with other people and wanted that chance to feel that. To have one of those smiles for himself.
Harry shook his head with a light laugh, his grip on her flexing slightly as he stared down at the girl he had been playing cat and mouse with. "Because I'll take the arguing, the blowoffs, all of it, just to be near you. I don't know when it truly started, but you've gotten under my skin, love." He pushed her back against the door, his body pressed against hers, trapping the girl. Looking down at her, his eyes were dark with desire, with honesty. It was a little unsettling.
“Harry.” She swallowed, eyes fluttering as his fingers stroked over her jaw and down over her throat, tenderness tinging the touches. “It’s not funny if this is a joke. It’s not.”
Harry's let out a tired breath, his touch gentle as he stroked her delicate skin, taking advantage of every touch. He could see that vulnerability in her eyes, and it only made him more determined to prove himself. "M’not joking. " He said firmly. "This is serious, I want you, and m’not giving up until I have you."
“Then you’re gonna have to work for it.” She exhaled sharply, pushing out of his hold and escaping back towards the party.
Y/N was almost fooled into giving in again- but she could give in without a real, true idea of what he was dedicated to. Maybe it was cruel of her to try and write him off as a bit of a slut trying his luck, but she’d never been awarded the chance to get to know him outside of their usual dynamic.
That was why, the next day, seeing him on her front porch had her gasping in surprise. “Shit!” She yelped, keys falling to the wood below her.
He looked good. The night of sleep seemed to refresh him, he’d showered, and he was bright eyed this morning. Determined. Why? She didn’t know. But this was not at all what she had expected when opening her front door. “ You scared the fuck out of me. What are you doing here?”
"Good morning, love." He greeted her. “Nice to see you this mornin’. You look gorgeous.” That cheeky fucking grin, as usual, tilted on his mouth.
She crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow in question. "You didn't answer my question. What are you doing here?"
Harry flashed her a grin, completely unfazed by her skepticism.  "I'm here to see you, of course." He said, as if it was obvious. “Silly thing.”
“Why?” She didn’t want to get too huffy with him but he was nearly speaking in riddles and she didn’t have the patience for that. “Are you alright?”
Of course he was amused at how frustrated she looked, finding her impatience obviously endearing. Maybe it was just her, though. Y/N was a bit of a weakness of his, he found. Pushing himself up the final step, he grabbed her keys and handed them back to her, making no effort to pull his hands away from her own.
"I'm fine, love." He hummed casually. "I just wanted to see you." Holding her hands in his, his thumbs rubbing soft circles on the skin. Casual intimacy that slightly caught her off guard.
The girl merely looked at him in confusion.  The plan for today had been to go to the grocery shop and do stuff around the house, not entertain the man who had admitted to wanting her last night- but she knew if he was here, it meant he was determined to get his way.
Aka, spending time with her.
“Okay.. So now you saw me.” She said lowly. “Do you want to go home now?”
The sight of her looking so flustered and on edge fueling his determination, he shook his head.  "Not yet." He said, his voice low and firm. "M’not leaving until I get some of your time."
Y/N closed her eyes, taking a deep inhale through her nose and exhaling through her mouth. Meditative breathing did wonders, it seemed. Usually. She knew Harry well enough to know that he wasn’t going to let this go. He was going to keep prodding until he understood that he probably had no actual intention of being around her long term. He was looking at her with metaphorical sex goggles on. Yeah, she was good in bed, but that was only a tiny portion of her.
He’d learn eventually.
“Well, I have to go to the store. So…”
Harry watched you closely as she opened her eyes from the attempting to calm herself. It was a little unnerving to know she needed to calm down from such a simple interaction but then again, he had been coming on a little strong. It was his nature, but he tried to relax his stance a bit. No way was he going to let an opportunity to spend time with her be wasted. He was dedicated now, wanting to win her over.  "You're going to the store?" He leaned in closer. “Looks like I'll just have to come with you, then."
Y/N sputtered as he took her handbag and totes from her, tucking them under his arm as the other held her hand.
“C’mon.” He said smugly, pulling her towards his car. She followed, confused at how he had just agreed to go grocery shopping with her. Willingly. It wasn’t something he liked doing and she knew that- she somehow had found out one night that he had his delivered- but he seemed eager to do this with her.
The last thing she expected was for him to open the passenger door and help her inside, but he did. Like it was second nature, opening it up and taking her hand to aid her into sitting sound, placing her bags on her lap.
Harry's smirk widened as he scooped up her handbag and totes, his grip on your hand firm as he guided her towards his car. He snickered under her breath at her sputtered protest, enjoying her disbelief that he was actually willing to go grocery shopping with her. Like it was some sort of hardship.
Once he had settled her in, he leaned in closer, the smell of cinnamon gum filling her senses. Keeping his stance, his eyes locked on her, his gaze intense. He could see the confusion in her eyes, and it only fueled his determination to make it second nature to her, to expect this sort of thing from him. .
"You look cute this morning." He said, his voice low and smooth. "Did you get much sleep last night?" He reached up and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch gentle.
Her cheeks felt hot as he tenderly touched her, the softness of it all surprising her. “Um… I did.” The compliment had flustered her too. It wasn’t something she was used to from him. Their usual dynamic was tense on her end and being a pain in the ass with a stupid smirk on his. This sort of treatment was new to her.
“Thanks. You look….” It felt unnatural to compliment him, but she meant it. Strangely enough. All of this was so new to her.  “Nice.”
Harry chuckled at the slight hesitation in her words, enjoying the way she was thrown off by his tenderness. One day she was going to accept it.  He smiled at her attempt at a compliment, narrowing his gaze at her. "Just nice?" He teased, raising an eyebrow.  He placed a light hand on her knee, his thumb stroking her skin in small circles, his touch gentle and comforting.
“Well, handsome? I dunno.” She grumbled. “Just so you know, you’re carrying all the grocery bags. If you insist on coming along you need to be useful.”
"Oh, I can be very useful, love. You jus’ need to find out what else I can off s’all." He said, his hand continuing its caressing on her knee, his touch sending a little jolt through her body "And don’t worry, I’ll carry all the bags. You just worry about picking out what you need."
Harry could see the doubt in her eyes as he reassured her about carrying the bags, and he knew he had to prove it. Not just that, but the whole thing. He hadn’t won her over quite yet, but he would.
Removing his hand from her knee, he ignored how much he missed the touch and stood up straight, standing tall and strong next to the car.
"You don’t believe me?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "Just watch, sweetheart. Gonna shock the shit out of you."
——-
Y/N was suspicious.
Harry was… behaving. More than, actually. He was being sweet and polite, borderline charming. Standing beside her as she pushed the cart, grabbing the items at the top shelves, not rushing her at all. He was flirty, sure, but nothing insane that truly made her roll her eyes at him. His voice was soft spoken and held only a tiny bit of the arrogance it usually did… and she liked it.
Who the fuck was this? And what had they done with the normal Harry?
“You’re freaking me out a little.” She mumbled, checking off another thing on her list. “Like, you’re being pleasant. That’s not normal for you.”
"What, I can't be pleasant sometimes?" He teased, giving her a look.
He couldn't help but grin as he watched her check off another item on the grocery list, his eyes roaming freely over her focused expression. He was enjoying this, he realized, enjoying the chance to be close to her more than he would have ever expected. "Maybe I’m just in a good mood today." He said, leaning against the cart.
“It’s just suspicious.” She glanced at him from the side of her eye. “You’re always following me around and trying to get me to snap at you. So excuse me for being a little confused when you’re acting so normal and nice.”
Harry liked working her up and getting reactions out of her, but he liked her. Y/N gave him the tummy butterflies, the excitement, the hot cheeks, all of it. She just didn’t know that- or was heavily in denial. It was his fault, he knew, from never expressing how serious the desires were and expecting her to read between the lines. But fuck, could she blame him? Y/N was a spitfire.
“Can you- fuck.” She groaned. “This can not get any worse.”
Across the aisle, she saw her. Nina. Glaring at the scene of Harry standing a little too close to Y/N, doing a domestic activity like shopping together… It looked like they were way more than friends. This wasn’t something he liked doing and of course, the other girl would know that… So the situation didn’t look too good.
Harry could feel the shift in her mood as she spotted Nina across the aisle, and he tensed up slightly, ready for the inevitable confrontation.  Fuck, and they’d been doing so good. Of course, someone had to throw him a curveball.
Good thing he was willing to work for this.
"Relax." He said quietly, his hand squeezing her shoulder reassuringly, thumbing over the fabric. "I'll handle it."
Harry could feel the tension in her body as he held onto her, knowing that she was on edge. He knew Nina could be a handful, and he didn't want her to add to the stress of the situation. Especially after Y/N was seemingly warming up to him.
He took a deep breath and turned to her, his expression neutral but firm.
"Nina." He said, his voice calm and steady- almost bored. "Why are you glaring at us like that?”
Nina’s eyes flicked between the pair, her expression hardening as she spoke. “What are you two doing?” She asked, her voice dripping with disdain.
Harry kept his expression neutral, his hand on Y/N unmoving as he spoke to her. “We’re shopping. Is that a crime?” He replied, his tone cool.
Nina’s lip curled up in a sneer, her eyes narrowing. "Shopping? Is that all?" She asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Awfully domestic, isn’t it?”
Harry chuckled, unruffled by her attitude. "Yes, Nina. We’re just picking up some groceries. Is that so hard to believe?" he challenged, letting her try and intimidate him. It wasn’t going to work.
The girl’s jaw clenched as Harry responded to her, clearly annoyed at the lack of reaction she was getting from him.
She took a step closer, sizing Y/N up with an unpleasant expression. She really needed to not make that face- it was unflattering.  “Is this a date or something?” She snapped, her eyes flickering over to Harry.
Harry chuckled at Nina’s question, finding her assumption humorous.
He looked over at the girl he wished would say yes, his eyes filled with amusement. "What do you think, love?” He taunted.  Maybe it wasn’t the nicest thing to do, but he didn’t particularly care.
Y/N rolled her eyes. This wasn’t what she wanted out of this interaction. Hell- she never wanted his interaction at all. “We’re shopping.” She said lowly. “And we have to go.”
Nina pursed her lips as her response, clearly unsatisfied with the answer she was given. She never could leave well enough alone. Harry could see her gearing up for another snarky comment, so he quickly interjected.
"She’s right." He said, his tone firm. “We do have to go. Bye."  There was no hint of remorse on his face as he motioned for her to get out of the way.
With that, he guided Y/N forward, steering both her and the cart towards the checkout area.
“Christ.” Y/N rubbed her temples. “She’s gonna try and burn my house down. I know it.” She sulked.
Harry chuckled at the outburst. He continued steering the cart towards the checkout area as she went back over the list, a small smile on his lips.
"Don't be so overdramatic." He teased. "She's not gonna burn down your house. She's just jealous."
“Harry, she’s scared like, 4 women away from hanging out anywhere near you completely.” Y/N sighed. “I know you don’t see it as much, but she’s tenacious. I don’t know what’s going to get her to stop, but you need to actually have a conversation with her to tell her you’re not interested. Or whoever ends up being your girlfriend is going to have to deal with her crawling around.”
Harry’s smile faded slightly as she mentioned Nina’s past behavior. He knew she could be intense and possessive, but he didn’t realize the extent of her actions. Considering he hadn’t even slept with her, it seemed like a massive overreaction. Of course there had been natural curiosity over some of the women in their friend circle had gone, but now that question had been answered.
He bit his lip, mulling over the words as he helped her load the groceries onto the checkout belt. "You’re right." He said finally, his voice serious as it broke up the beeping of the items being scanned. "I guess I didn’t realize it was that serious. M’sorry. I don't particularly want to have that conversation, but it needs to be had. I’ll talk to her."
Harry continued helping you with the groceries, lost in thought for a moment before speaking again. "I’ll talk to her soon, make sure she knows for sure me and her are never going to be a thing and if she wants to try and scare off anyone I talk to, she won’t be invited to anything else." He said firmly, his eyes serious.
"But first," he added, breaking the tense air as his tone turned playful again, "We have to get these groceries home. I’m starving."
It was safe to say that she was even more confused than she had started off being.
Harry helped her bring the groceries into her place. He helped her unpack. He even fed her cat while she washed the fruit so she could put it away. Helping himself to her house like he had a right to be there, a comfortability that had her a little spooked.
It was hard to accept the thought of Harry actually liking her. First, she hadn’t ever seen him with a serious girlfriend. All she had been exposed to was seeing him fucking around with different people. Secondly, he was always so playful and unserious that internally, the most insecure part of her felt like maybe it was a trick, and it made her more apprehensive of him.
It wasn’t fair of her to be so judgmental when she was not a virgin mary herself; she knew that she wasn’t giving him a proper shot, but it was scary. He was scary, in a way.  Maybe it was the idea of how far feelings could go if she gave in, but it felt hard to stop those original emotions she had towards him from coming back.
“Thank you.” She said awkwardly as Harry sat at her breakfast bar. “Um, for helping put away the stuff and bringing it inside. That was really nice of you.”
Harry, who was lounging in a chair at the breakfast bar, chuckled at the awkward gratitude.  "S’no big deal." He said, his tone casual. "I’m happy to help."
He leaned back in the chair, his eyes roaming over her face, his favorite thing to do. Watching her was the best part of being around her.  He could see the tension in her shoulders and the uncertainty in her expression, and it made him wonder what was going on in that head of hers. Why she was so apprehensive. Yeah, he knew he had a weird dynamic with her before, but no one thought of him as a bad guy.
The longer he looked, the longer Harry could tell that there was something bothering her, and he wanted to find out what. Call it morbid curiosity, but it was needed. He leaned forward a bit, his eyes locked on her pretty face.
"You seem a little tense." He said, his voice soft. "Is everything okay? You've been quiet since we got back."
She hadn’t expected him to call her out on it, but she should have. Harry was as blunt as they came, and she could have laughed at it if she didn’t feel a little anxious.
“I’m okay.” She wrapped her arms around herself, looking at her feet for a moment the soft green ladybug socks he had given her a laugh over. “I’m a little anxious, I guess. This new dynamic kind of… put me off kilter.” The confession hung in the air before she continued.  “I’m used to you being annoying and… I dunno. It’s unfair of me, but I keep getting nervous that this is some joke to you and you’re gonna go back to being obnoxious once I let my guard down.” She winced. “And I’m sorry. That isn’t fair to you when I know I haven’t been the nicest to you either. But I guess you intimidate me a little.”
Harry listened intently as she spoke, his expression softening as she revealed the source of the troubled look on her face. He knew that he had been a bit of an arse in the past too, and he could understand why his sudden change in behavior had thrown her off.
He leaned forward on his hands, his gaze still fixed on the girl’s tense stance, lips rolled into her mouth. "I get it." He said quietly. "And I’m sorry if I intimidated you or made you uncomfortable. That’s the last thing I wanted to do."  He ran a hand through his hair, sighing softly. "And as for this being a joke... it’s not. Not in the slightest. Trust me."
“I guess I’m a little confused too.” She admitted. “Where all of this is coming from. I know we hooked up a few weeks ago, but you didn’t call me or anything after. I wasn’t expecting you to, don’t get me wrong, but then I felt awkward seeing you at all the events and stuff and you were acting normal. I never let you get alone with me on purpose because I didn’t want to hear you tease me for giving into you.”
Harry’s expression soured a bit as she brought up the hook-up. He knew he hadn’t done anything to dispel her doubts about his intentions, and he felt a pang of regret.  He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. How could he explain it without sounding as stupid as he felt? “I know I didn’t call you after, and I should have. I was an idiot… I just… I thought maybe you wanted me to chase a bit, that the ball had been left in your court after I dropped you off at home and… and I didn’t think, honestly.”  He ran a hand through his hair, a frustrated sigh escaping his lips.
“You have to understand why I’m a little uneasy.” With arms wrapped around herself, she let herself look back up at him. There was no trace of joking on his features and it did make her feel a tad bit better.  “It’s not that I didn’t like… what we did.” It was the best she’d ever had. “But I think I’m not cut out for just hooking up. I don’t regret it, even if I acted like I did.” She decided to give him a tiny bit of her vulnerability to see what he did with it. “I just know that hooking up, for me, never ends well. And I don’t know you really well, Harry.” She fiddled with the hem of her shirt, nerves shot. The last thing she wanted to do was seem desperate about locking him down or something, but she couldn’t lie to him or herself.
“I’m not trying to make you feel any sort of pressure to want to date me or anything. I’m just trying to lay down a boundary that for me, I think I’m one of those people that really needs an intimate connection and trust with someone. For some reason I trusted you that night, and I know you wouldn’t harm me in that way, but sobered up and standing in front of you, I feel a little apprehensive. Like, I don’t want you to feel any sort of pressure from me, but in order to have me in the way you said you want… it has to have some level of commitment is basically what I’m trying to say.”
Harry listened intently as she laid down the boundaries, his expression thoughtful. He could see the vulnerability in her eyes and in the way she fidgeted with her shirt, and it tugged at his heart in a way he hasn't felt before.  The last thing he wanted was for her to feel any sort of regret and he was glad she hadn’t so far, but he had to appreciate her laying out the law here. It gave him direction on where to go. When she finished speaking, he took a moment to process the words before responding. He can feel the seriousness of the conversation, and it's clear that she wasn’t making demands lightly.
He took a deep breath, his own vulnerability on display in his honest gaze. It was imperative to him that she understood how much he got it. How dedicated he would be to it if given the chance. "I understand." He said quietly, licking over his bottom lip. "I understand that you need a committed relationship, darling. I also understand that you need trust and intimacy in order to get there." he added, his voice soft.
He took a moment to organize his thoughts, then continued speaking. It should be laid out in front of her. “You know, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately… about us, I mean.”
“What do you mean?” She asked quietly, taking the moment to look him in the eye. It was the most serious she had ever seen him. Usually he had that smirk on his face, so smug or teasing, he’d be poking and prodding at her to get a reaction- but nothing about this interaction was insincere. It was almost off putting to see him this way.
Harry's gaze met hers, his eyes intense. "I mean that I've been thinking about us in a more serious way." he admitted.  He took a deep breath, his expression tentative. "I know I've been kind of hot and cold with you… and I know that I've played games in the past. But after we hooked up… I really couldn’t stop thinking about you. How different we were like that… How good it felt. So I want you to know that... I don’t want to play games with you. I want t’be serious about this."
Y/N hadn’t expected that answer. In all honesty she thought he’d reject her, say he wasn’t into it and keep it moving. That was what she was prepared for- not this. That sort of confession had her realizing that maybe she really didn’t know him at all. She knew some parts, sure, but seeing him like this was brand new. This man in front of her was a familiar stranger, at least this new side.
“I’d have to get to know you better.” She brushed her hair behind her ear, giving him a tentative look. “And it would be a little slow. I think I could give you a chance, though. I’ve been unfair to you, I think. I feel like we… kind of got off on the wrong foot.”
Harry lets out a small sigh of relief, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “I’m okay with slow.” he says, his voice sincere. “I’m willing to work for it.”
He leaned back a bit, giving her a little more space as a hint of his usual playfulness returned to his features.. “And I think you’re right… we got off on the wrong foot. But I’m glad we’re taking the time to get to know each other now.”

——
Harry was coming over again.
It was strange. Since they’d agreed to explore something romantic, seriously, he had changed. Not completely, not to the point where she wondered who he was before, but enough to make her soften up. Hints of him being a pain in the ass we’re still there. But he was… sweet. Genuine. A little silly in a cute way that she hadn’t allowed herself to enjoy before.
One of the biggest shocks of all, was the fact that he was so gentle with her. He handled her with care, even if he was a little overly touchy. She was getting used to it because she found herself liking it, but he was the first guy to really be a bit of a clinger.
That was the last thing she had ever expected from him.
His touches were soft and sweet and he looked at her with this little twinkle in his eye that she knew he couldn’t genuinely fake it. He liked her- liked her , liked her.
She was still a bit shy with him, but it was slowly melting away each time they saw each other. Now the nerves were barely there, being overtaken by anticipation and excitement. It wasn’t something she’d ever thought would happen- being excited and antsy to see Harry, wanting him back in her house.
He was coming over tonight and she had been prepping for a bit, primping and priming herself even though she wanted to look casual. There was never once so far that he hadn’t told her she looked gorgeous, and it had started becoming part of her daily routine. She wanted to impress him, make him say it again and mean it.
Her tummy twisted as she heard his car door slam shut, smiling to herself as she adjusted her cropped top and went towards the door.
He was beautiful. Really, gorgeous as she opened the door to reveal him in the early evening light. He looked a little tired from work, slight bags under his eyes, but his smile melted her a little as he walked right into the house, dropping his bag in the foyer with little care for its well-being and picked her up in a big hug. Her feet dangled as she squealed, strong arms wrapped around her waist as he lifted her effortlessly.
“Hi.” She beamed shyly, feeling him set her down on the floor.
Harry couldn’t help but grin as he placed her down, his strong arms wrapping around her waist lazily.. He loved how delicate she felt in his arms, and he loved the way she squealed with surprise as he lifted her up a bit. Really, he loved most things that had to do with her. Taking a moment to admire her cozy appearance, his gaze lingered on her cropped top. “Hi.” He replied, his voice soft and warm. “You look beautiful.”
Like clockwork.
Before she could respond, Harry was pulling her back into a hug, burying his face in her shoulder as he held her, rocking slightly. A prime example of how touchy he was, unable to stop himself. He nuzzled her neck, letting his cool nose brush against the hot skin. “I missed you.” he mumbled, his voice muffled against her, leaving a little shiver in it’s wake..
When he said things like that it made her want to giggle madly, but also melt into a puddle. He truly meant it, was the thing, and she had a hard time understanding how this had happened. How he had gone from her little enemy to the person she looked toward to seeing the most.
“I missed you too.” She admitted, fingers tracing down his back. It was an attempt to get more open about her feelings. Harry was being candid about his own, so she felt like she could extend him the same grace. Even if it was slightly terrifying, she had no reason to hold back anymore.
Harry pulled back slightly to look at her, a soft smile on his lips at her shy admission. "I like it when you say that." he teased, his voice low.  He brought his hands up to rest on her hips, his thumbs tracing small circles on the bare skin. He loved the way the cropped top revealed just enough to make him want more, and he found himself struggling to focus on anything but the feel of her body under his hands.
Harry wanted her, and there was obvious desire for her there. In all honesty, there was a lot of desire for her in general that he had done his best to keep under wraps  He’d been so good, trying so hard to prove himself- but that didn’t mean he was a saint. He was beyond attracted to her in every sense of the word, and it was hard to ignore that..
“Excuse me.” She let her smile grow, her tone playful. “My eyes are up here.”
Y/N knew Harry wanted her in all of the ways, and he’d been exceedingly patient. He knew she was trying to build their connection before getting intimate with him again, and she appreciated it- but that didn’t mean she didn’t enjoy knowing he desired her.
Or that she didn’t have those same urges.
Harry's gaze flicked back up to meet hers, a cheeky grin on his face. "I know where your eyes are. I look at them plenty, do I not?" He replied smoothly, his hands still resting on her waist, giving a gentle squeeze.  He couldn't help but let out a small laugh as she shot him a look, his eyes sparkling with mirth. "But you can't expect me to ignore the rest of you when you're wearing something as distracting as that." Testing the waters, he was seeing how far his flirtation could go.
“It’s loungewear, you freak.” She scoffed, a hint of a smile turning up her lips. Leggings and a cropped top were a bit of a reward for him, though. She figured if he had been so patient with her then he could at least get to look at her. “But I’m glad you like it.”
Taking his hand in her smaller one, she led him towards the kitchen to show him the pizza boxes and salad she had made to pair with it, feeling weirdly shy about it. That was the theme of today, considering she had come to a conclusion in her head- but he didn’t need to know about it quite yet. “I knew you’d be hungry when you got off work, so I ordered ahead.”
Harry's eyes lit up as he saw the food, warmth spreading through him. No one had been thoughtful like that to him before, but of course she would be. This sort of thing was why he had liked her. He’d seen it time and time again with their other friends and secretly wished for some of it for himself, that sort of care… and now that he got it, he felt that yearning for her get a little bit stronger. He let out a low whistle. "You knew exactly what I needed." he murmured, a grateful smile on his lips.
Pulling her into him, his arms wrapping around her waist from behind. He nuzzled her neck again, his breath warm on her skin. "You're too good to me." he murmured, his voice showing just how grateful he was.
Y/N shivered slightly as he spoke against her skin, large arms wrapping around her and making her feel that same brand of delicacy that only Harry had been able to accomplish. His arms were just… beautiful. Built and muscular, covered in those tattoos, she loved every single thing about them. Looking at them, feeling them, how he used them… she couldn’t admit it out loud yet, but being in his arms was one of her new favorite places.
“You texted and said you didn’t sleep well and you had a rougher day at work and… I dunno. I thought maybe you’d like something ready when you came over. I would have cooked myself but I had a workshop.” She rambled on a little bit, feeling the need to overexplain herself.
Harry squeezed her tighter, his chin resting on her shoulder. He inhaled her scent, his nose buried in hair as she spoke.
"Mmm. " He hummed, his voice low and gravelly. He ran his nose over her throat, lips brushing against the sensitive skin. "You didn't have to do all this, you know." He moved his hands down over her hips, his thumbs tracing soft circles on the exposed skin there. "But I'm really grateful you did." He was quiet for a moment before speaking again, his grip on her tightening slightly. "Can I ask you somethin’?"
“Hm?” She replied. It was hard to focus. Sure, it would be awkward if anyone else say them just standing in her kitchen with the large man wrapped around her body, but no one else was there to judge her for indulging both herself and him in this sort of cuddle.
Harry's body was pressed against her, a small smile on his lips. He really did enjoy this moment of quiet intimacy just as much as he enjoyed the more energetic moments where they’d go out or he’d help her take care of her garden.
"Can I stay over tonight?"
It should have been a scarier question to her, all things considered, but the answer came out of her mouth naturally.
“Sure.” She nodded. There was no second guessing it either. “Is that what that bag was?” She realized he had brought in a bigger duffle than his usual work one, but she had thought it was maybe just to change from his work clothes.
Harry's smile grew as she agreed so easily. "Mhmm." he hummed, his voice low. His hands moved up her sides, tracing the curve of her waist. "I wanted to be prepared just in case you said yes." Presumptuous? He’d prefer the terms hopeful, even confident. They’d been doing so well, he had to at least ask.
He pulled back slightly, looking down at her with a hint of a smirk on his face. "So... where can I sleep?"
He turned her in his grip, letting her look up at his face now with narrowed eyes. Her heartbeat quickened though she tried to calm it down. He was teasing her a little bit, but he did genuinely want to know.
“If you promise no extreme funny business… you can sleep in my bed.” She placed her hand on his bicep, squeezing a little. It was her own reward. “But remember, Harry. No sex. Okay?” Gliding her other hand up to cuff over the back of his neck, she decided it was finally time to tease him back a bit. “However… If you’re really, really nice to me… I may let you kiss me again.”
Harry's smile widened, his eyes sparkling with a hint of challenge. He leaned down, bringing his face closer to the girl’s.  "You're being bold, darling." he teased, his voice low and playful. "Are you trying to tempt me?"
“A little.” She hummed. “I like when you’re sweet to me. So if you keep it up, I’ll let you kiss me as long as you’d like tonight. I know I’ve been holding all of that intimacy hostage…”
It had been driving him wild. Near kisses and her letting him brush his hand over the curve of her ass a few times before putting them back up to her hips, he’d tested the waters but got rejected. Now, she was loosening up a bit.
“So.” She blinked up at him. “Are you gonna be nice to me tonight so you can kiss me?”
Harry's eyes glinted with a mixture of desire and playful mischief. He loved it when she teased him just as much as he loved it when she got all shy and flustered. Which one he likes more, he couldn’t tell. "Oh, I'll be so nice to you tonight you won't be able to stand it." he purred, his voice low and husky.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her closer until their bodies were flush against each other. "But I have one condition, little miss."
“What is that?” She questioned, unsure what it could be. With him, it could be anything.
"You have to promise me that if I'm being too... forward, you'll tell me to back off. I don't want to overstep. Even though I want to kiss you until you can't think straight. So promise me you'll speak up if I get too much."
Her smile widened, nodding in agreement. He’d just earned himself quite a few points. Never had she expected him to be as respectful as he was, but she utterly adored it.  “I will. I promise, I’ll tell you.” She agreed, leaning up to kiss the curve of his jaw. “But it’s time for you to eat. I can feel your tummy grumbling.”
Harry let out a low chuckle, his eyes flickering over her pretty face. He loved the way her smile widened, and the feeling of her plump lips against his jaw send a shiver down his spine. More. He wanted more, and more, until their mouths were tingling and numb. Until she looked drunk on the kisses, clinging to him like he could only hope.
"Mmm. Okay, fine." he grumbled. "I'll eat. But only if you feed me, since you were so kind as to order ahead for me." He gave her a puppy-dog look, his lower lip jutted out in a mock-pout. It was good, she’s give him that- but not good enough.
“Absolutely not.” She snorted. “Nice try.”

warning; images of blood and psychosis.
Tumblr media
Harry first loses control at 15 years old, some pirate who wouldn't take no for an answer grabs Uma and tries to take what he wanted. Harry's usual ocean blue turned bright blood red that glowed in the dark. His mind was a jumble of voices and static-all telling him one thing.
Kill.
his mind registers nothing else as Uma's voice barely breaks through the fog, terrified and meek. "harry...what did you do?" she asks, taking a step back from her friend-his eyes wide and expression slack, his hook and face splattered with blood.

Being a Slytherin was hard. Being part of the popular cliche was even worse. It wasn’t hard for Theodore Nott to blend in with his crowd. He was rich, a little bit crazy when he drank, and as all of them were, an asshole to an extent.
Theo had his life all planned out; get sorted into Slytherin, check. Join the popular group, check. Date another rich Slytherin girl who he’d only use for reputation, not checked. That last point was an important part of his life plan but, as if the universe intentionally wanted to screw him over, his gaze was constantly stuck on a Hufflepuff.
Y/N L/N wasn’t all too bad. She was pretty (or gorgeous as Theo liked to mentally describe her), rich enough, and had a big reputation in school and outside. She should have been Theo’s ideal type if she wasn’t draped in that damn yellow uniform.
Nevertheless, Theo was smitten by her. He talked to her in secret, wanting to avoid his friends’ shifty eyes and gossip. They’d no doubt tell his parents that he was talking to a Hufflepuff of all people. But, at least she wasn’t in Gryffindor.
He kept her hidden from the world, which he knew she hated but what else could he do?
“Theo.” Y/N called out in the empty hallway. She had her books clutched closely to her chest, scared they’d drop. Theo passed, his heart slightly sinking.
How was he supposed to tell Y/N, his secret girlfriend, that he still wanted to remain a secret despite promising her otherwise? Theo didn’t have the time to even think about it before he heard loud chatter that could only be his friends.
“Theo!” Pansy exclaimed, jogging towards him. She didn’t even notice Y/N, pushing past the H/C-haired girl without a word. “You have to try Enzo’s batch of cookies! He’s actually getting good at baking after last month’s incident.”
Theo lightly chuckled before he remembered Y/N was still here. She was looking at him like she expected him to do something. He quickly brushed past Pansy. He could feel his friends staring daggers into his back, all curious as to what he was doing.
“I told you I don’t want to go out with you. Leave me alone, Hufflepuff.” Theo wasn’t half-bad at acting after all the times he had to pretend to brush Y/N off for the sake of his friends. He subtly leaned forward, “I can’t be weak around my friends, Y/N. You understand, right? I’ll tell them soon.”
It was ironic how Theo made the first move yet never revealed his relationship with Y/N.
“Yeah… sure.” Y/N whispered.
Theo quickly walked away, catching up with his friends. “What was that?” Astoria questioned as she hooked arms with Theo to quicken his pace.
“Just another lovesick girl.” Theo uttered, loud enough for Y/N to hear. He didn’t even spare her a glance as he walked away, breaking yet another empty promise.
“Isn’t that the same girl from two weeks ago?” Pansy asked.
“They all look the same to me.” His words, fake or not, always left Y/N wondering what was wrong with their relationship. She was a good girlfriend so why was Theo always acting so embarrassed of her? Was he ashamed of her?
Theo told her every time that he’d make their relationship public but he never did, too scared of what his parents and companions would think.
What a coward.
Y/N arrived in the Great Hall and immediately slumped into her usual seat beside her friends. “Hi.” She casually greeted them.
“Boyfriend troubles again?” One of her friends, Cerci, asked.
They all knew Y/N was dating someone from Slytherin, but she never told them his name. They didn’t doubt her, there were plenty of other Slytherin guys who would have asked Y/N out if it wasn’t for Theo.
“He keeps saying he’ll tell his friends but he never does. And it drags on for months. I can’t stand it anymore.” Y/N stabbed her breakfast with her fork and sighed.
“Just break up.” Alice, another girl, piped up. Cerci elbowed her.
“You can’t just say that, Alice. You know this topic is sensitive to Y/N.”
“I’m just saying. If he treats her so wrong, why not just break up?”
The pair begun to bicker, as always. There was never a dull moment with Cerci and Alice around. Y/N’s eyes shifted to Theo, who was trying to shake Astoria off his arm. He succeeded, but spilled pumpkin juice on his blazer.
Matteo immediately burst into laughter that could be heard even at the Hufflepuff table. Alice and Cerci seemed to notice the commotion.
“Nott and Greengrass are at it again.” Alice sighed. “You know, there’s a rumor going around that they’re dating.”
Cerci scoffed. “No way. Greengrass likes Malfoy, everybody knows that. And besides, I saw Nott with some H/C-haired girl and they seemed pretty close.”
Y/N quickly lifted her head, lips parted. “What?” She asked. “You saw Theo with someone?”
Cerci scrunched up her eyebrows. “Since when did you start calling him Theo?”
“We were paired up for potions last year. Old habit, sorry.” Y/N quickly lied through her teeth.
Theo was a master at hiding things, even his girlfriend, but not good enough to avoid Cerci’s watchful eye.
“Nott’s handsome, I guess, but have you seen Riddle? Too bad he’s a player.” Alice mumbled before taking a sip from her goblet.
Cerci snickered. “And an idiot. He asked me if the color orange came before the fruit. Everyone knows it’s the color.”
“No. It’s the fruit.” Alice immediately backfired. “Thats like asking if the chicken came before the egg. Which, by the way, was the chicken because of evolution.”
“Where did the chicken come from then? It needs to come from an egg.”
Y/N could only slump in her seat once more as her friends argued about trivial matters that she didn’t care about.
“Woah. What did I miss on my bathroom break?” Esme, the last member of their closely knit friend group, returned. She readjusted her blouse as she sat next to Y/N, stealing a grape from Cerci’s plate.
“Y/N’s having relationship problems with her little boyfriend. Any advice?” Cerci uttered through mouthfuls of food.
“And how does that relate to your argument about chickens and oranges?” Esme raised an eyebrow.
“What came first? The chicken or the egg?” Alice asked, leaning forward to know Esme’s opinion on the matter.
Esme sighed, quickly rolling her eyes. “Oh, not this again. It doesn’t matter. Shouldn’t we be focusing on Y/N right now?”
Alice and Cerci exchanged a glance before looking back at Y/N.
Esme sighed. “You two are useless sometimes. Y/N, if you don’t want to be secret anymore, confront him about it. It’s not fair to you if he keeps you hidden.”
Y/N pressed her lips into a thin line before sparing another look at Theo. “Yeah, I’ll try.” She murmured, resting her cheek in the palm of her hand.
Y/N spent all day thinking about what to do. Either she could confront Theo, which seemed like the obvious choice, or let him walk all over her. As much as she wanted to choose the first option, she was still an empath and wanted to see what was burdening Theo so much.
It was in potions, one of Y/N’s unexpectedly best classes, when Matteo Riddle surprisingly approached her. “L/N, right?” The handsome boy asked, leaning forward onto her desk. Y/N’s eyes darted to Theo, whose jaw was tightly clenched.
“Uh… yes.” Y/N muttered, lightly clearing her throat.
“I hear you’re good at potions. You wouldn’t mind tutoring me, right? I’ll make sure to give you a special treat after.” Matteo winked with a stupid boyish grin on his face that Y/N would’ve found charming if Theo didn’t exist.
“Back it up, Matteo.” Theo interrupted, placing a hand on his friend’s shoulder and forcing Matteo to take a step back. Y/N’s heart jumped and she subconsciously sat up straighter in her chair. She tried to smile at Theo, anything to catch his wavering attention, but it was fruitless. The next words that rolled off Theo’s tongue stunned Y/N. “You know better than to be associating with low-life, Hufflepuff trash.”
Y/N’s smile immediately dropped. She could feel Theo’s apologetic gaze on her but his words cut deep. Theo left Y/N to sit with Pansy, who had been watching the whole thing with furrowed eyebrows.
“He’s joking.” Matteo tried to cover for his friend. Out of all the Slytherin boys, Y/N had expected for Matteo to be the meanest. But here he was, trying to lighten the mood with a Hufflepuff of all people.
“Right.” Y/N whispered, blinking away tears. If Theo were anybody else, maybe a random classmate she barely acknowledged, then his words wouldn’t have hit so deep. But he was her boyfriend.
Theodore Nott was the same boy who secretly showed up to every quidditch practice when Y/N had been on the team. He was the same sweet boy who aimlessly followed Y/N around the school when she was nothing but his crush, asking to hold her books. Since when had Y/N been the one chasing after him?
Y/N subtly packed her things away with the intention of skipping class to rewatch The Notebook or any other film that would lift her spirit.
Barely anybody noticed her slipping out of the classroom. She almost bumped into Professor Snape, who had been walking in at the same time. After seeing her glassy eyes and shaking hands, Snape let her past with a nod of acknowledgment.
“I expect you to catch up, Miss L/N. Complete page two hundred and twenty three.” Snape uttered.
“Yes, professor.” She weakly replied back.
She was walking to the bathrooms, head lowered and trying to hold back tears, when someone grasped her shoulder and spun her around. Y/N let out a loud gasp of surprise before a hand covered her mouth and she was dragged into an empty classroom.
“Whatever you think I did, I didn’t do!” Y/N exclaimed as she screwed her eyes shut and held her hands up. “I swear I didn’t steal your pet snake! When will you let it go?!” After hearing nothing but silence, she opened one eye. “Oh… it’s you, Theo.”
She was slightly glad it was only him and not the strange boy from two months ago who was sure Y/N stole his pet snake. He went to extreme lengths to try and prove it.
“First I’ve heard of that pet snake. We’ll go back to that later because I’m curious.” Theo placed his hands on Y/N’s shoulders. “Y/N, you know I love you.” Of course she knew that. It was hard to miss when Theo would mutter the same three words between every hidden, breathless kiss. “My parents and even friends expect a lot from me and I can’t go around just telling people I’m dating a Hufflepuff.”
Theo said Y/N’s house like it was a derogatory term.
“Are you breaking up with me?” She asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
“What? No.” Theo was at a loss for words. Y/N truly was his whole world but letting both Y/N and his Pureblood life collide was a recipe for disaster.
“Really? Because this sounds like a breakup speech.” Y/N retorted. A few tears slid down her cheeks and Theo was quick to wipe them away.
“I’m not breaking up with you. I just need you to understand what I’m doing.”
Y/N didn’t know if she could ever understand his reasons. They were all so bizarre and could be easily solved through telling the truth. A sudden wave of confidence drew over Y/N.
“I don’t understand, Theo. You always reassure me that you’ll tell your friends about us but you never do. And sometimes you’re mean to me just to save your reputation. You showed interest first, you talked to me first. You initiated everything first, so why are you trying to pretend like you didn’t? Matteo Riddle out of all people had the heart to comfort me while you walked away. You’re supposed to be nice to me, Theo, that’s your job as my boyfriend.”
Theo never once interrupted her, knowing he was in the wrong. “I’m sorry.” Was all he could muster.
“I don’t want an apology. I want you to tell your friends.”
Theo sighed. “You know I can’t… you know I need to keep up my appearance.”
“Is losing me not reason enough?”
“Don’t make me choose, Y/N.” Theo shook his head. “Please. You know how important my reputation is.”
Y/N slowly grasped Theo’s hands, intertwining their fingers for a moment before dropping them. “If you can’t choose, I’ll decide for you. I don’t want to be a secret anymore, Theo, and it’s clear that you won’t give up your reputation. So keep your reputation and I’ll see myself out.”
“No, Y/N, please.” Theodore Nott was above begging but he’d get down on his knees and plead for Y/N to stay. “I can’t do this without you. I need you. Please. Y/N.”
He watched as she picked up her bag, sparing Theo one more look over her shoulder. “Sorry, Theo. It’s for the best.” She brushed past the door, gently closing it behind her. Theo slumped into a seat behind him, his elbows resting on his knees and his hands gripping his face.
What had he done?
He felt stupid now for not mustering up the courage to tell his friends about Y/N. His leg bounced up and down as he regretted every mean word he spoke to Y/N in an attempt to cover up their relationship. She didn’t deserve that. She was the kindest girl he knew, always giving others a helping hand.
He gripped his shirt, nails digging into the skin beneath the thin fabric. Theo could feel his heart beating at an abnormal rate but it wouldn’t stop no matter how many desperate deep breaths he inhaled.
The room suddenly felt too small and Theo felt claustrophobic, a feeling he had never experienced before. The world was flashing before his eyes with every ragged breath he took.
“Y/N, please don’t go.” He whispered despite knowing she was already long gone by now. He wrapped his arms around himself, shaking. “Don’t go.” He repeated as an attempt to comfort himself. He harshly tugged at his hair, cursing at himself for being so stupid as to letting Y/N go.
He should have tried harder. He should have done everything she asked. He only had his reputation to worry about, but at what cost?
With his head hanging low, he made his way back towards his dorm, trusting his friends would bring his supplies back. He collapsed onto his bed, feeling numb. He was a little bit angry that Y/N broke it off so casually without much tears. Was he not worth it? He suddenly realized how Y/N felt, having to watch your lover walk away like nothing happened.
The days following the breakup were gloomy, and that was an understatement. Theo realized early that Y/N was much better at masking her feelings behind a fake facade of happiness than him. He spent every free hour wallowing in self-pity, hoping to catch another glimpse of Y/N like the good old days where he didn’t care about his relationship.
“Theo.” Pansy waved a hand in front of Theo’s face. He scowled, not wanting to go through another rant of how Blaise refused to make the first move. She sat beside him on the green couch, handing him a bottle of alcohol. It was the end of the term, and as always the Slytherin house decided to host a large party. Anybody was invited, unless your name was Harry Potter.
Draco had gone as far in their petty rivalry to hang up a sign at the entrance, stating “no Potters”allowed. He spelled Potter wrong at first, spelling it as pottery, which resulted in the Weasley twins bringing in jars of clay pottery. Theo quietly laughed at that.
“How’s your girl?” Pansy asked as she took a sip from her can of lemonade vodka.
“We broke up. She had enough of me- wait.” Theo quickly turned his head to stare at Pansy, “How do you know about Y/N?”
Pansy simply shrugged with a grin stretching across her lips. “Your words are convincing, Theo, but I’ve known you for a while. Did you really think I wouldn’t notice you sneaking off and coming back with lipstick marks?”
Theo’s head hung low. “It doesn’t matter now. She’s done with me and vice versa.” He swirled his drink around before taking a gulp.
“You’re stupid, you know.” Pansy spoke up, “If you liked her so much, you shouldn’t have let her go.”
“I had no choice.”
“You had a choice. The door for you was wide open. You just never stepped inside, too scared of others’ opinions.”
“I’m a Pureblood. I can’t be dating a Hufflepuff girl.”
“You’re a boy, Theo. Three years from now, nobody will care that you dated a Hufflepuff.”
“I’ll care!” Theo exclaimed over the loud blaring music. Pansy didn’t flinch, only staring at him with a mix of pity and annoyance. “My parents expect me to marry a Slytherin girl.”
“You sacrificed your girlfriend for something your parents told you ten years ago?” Pansy was judging him now with a hardened stare. “Be careful how you treat girls, Theo. One day, you’ll realize the possibility of losing her is very much real.”
Pansy subtly pointed behind Theo. He glanced over his shoulder, his wandering gaze immediately spotting Y/N. Her friend, Alice, had an arm hooked around her while a boy was trying to hold a conversation.
“Do what you want, Theo. But if you don’t act fast, you’ll lose her for good.” Pansy stood up to retrieve another drink.
Theo, with his heart beating too fast to be healthy, jumped to his feet and pushed past the crowd. He didn’t know what he was going to do or what he was even going to say but he was determined to shove the other boy away.
Blaise was standing with Matteo on the other side of the room, holding a microphone. A dumb idea struck Theo, which he knew he was going to regret the moment he stepped onto that stage.
Y/N’s eyes lit up as she saw Theo walking through the crowd, scowling at anybody in his way. He caught her gaze and for a second she thought he was going to willingly talk to her in front of his peers. But he walked straight past, his shoulder lightly brushing hers.
Y/N deflated, all hope of having a second chance with Theo disappearing. Until she heard the microphone screech and the music abruptly stopped.
She didn’t have to turn to know who was interrupting the party. She heard his voice and immediately knew
“I’m going to fucking regret this. Matteo, shut your mouth or I’ll throw you out the window.” Theo said, glaring at his friend. He sighed before continuing. “I had a girlfriend.”
Some of the crowd lightly gasped, not expecting Hogwarts resident playboy to start his announcement off with that.
“She was sweet, and kind, and all I could ask for. But I cared more about what my family and friends thought so I lost her. I always promised her that I’d tell my friends about us but I never did so I’m doing it now. I don’t expect her to forgive me.” Theo glanced at Y/N who was already staring at him with her head tilted to the side slightly. “But I owe it to her.”
“Hurry up, man!” Someone shouted, “This is boring!”
“I’ll throw you into the black lake so it’s not boring!” Theo aggressively yelled back. “All I’m trying to say is that I had a girlfriend who wasn’t a Slytherin like most people expected. I was head over heels for a Hufflepuff.”
Theo didn’t hesitate to expose his secret. After years of stating he’d date a Slytherin to anybody who would listen, he ended up with a Hufflepuff instead of one of his lovesick Slytherin fangirls.
"Theo, man, I wanna get back to drinking. Are you done?!" Matteo yelled, cupping his hands over his mouth.
"Matteo, I'm done when I'm done! Y/N L/N is the girl I'm head over heels for, okay?! I forced her to keep our relationship hidden, and I will always regret that. She is smart, beautiful, and kind and if I had a chance to do it all over again, I would announce to the whole world that we were dating! After we broke up, I didn’t want anything else but to talk to her again. So I drew her over and over again and my mind was focused on only her.”
Matteo snickered from the side of the stage. “Dude.” He said, almost judging Theo for being so vulnerable.
“Shut up, you banged a Gryffindor girl then cried when she said it was nothing but a hookup. Don’t pretend like I didn’t see you sobbing and eating ice cream in the kitchen.” Theo wittily retorted.
That silenced Matteo.
“I don’t understand why as a Slytherin, I have to date another Slytherin. I can be happy with a Hufflepuff too, whoever I date doesn’t alter my way of living. Now I'm done, go get drunk, Matteo!" Theo shoved the microphone into Matteo's hands, glaring at him.
Theo found Y/N with Alice, who was intensely questioning the H/C-haired girl. “When were you going to tell me the Theodore Nott was your boyfriend?!” Alice yelled as she shook Y/N by the shoulders. "Were you ever going to tell us?!"
"Ex-boyfriend." Y/N quickly corrected her friend.
"Secret admirer, actually. Like old times." Theo butted in, standing behind Y/N with his hands shoved into his pockets. “I’m not demanding you to forgive me, Y/N.”
He kneeled down, gripping onto Y/N’s hands like his life depended on it. He had seen enough romance movies with Y/N to get the hint of what kind of guy she wanted.
“From now on, no more secrets. I don’t care if you never take me back, all I need is for you to look in my direction again. Let’s start over, Y/N.”
The school was buzzing with gossip after last night’s party, the word of Y/N and Theo’s relationship spreading fast.
“Is it true?” Hermione asked, leaning forward. “Were you really dating Theodore Nott?” Y/N silently smiled, sick of all the questions she was receiving. At least it was her last class for the day, she could return to her dorm after and sleep.
Y/N was the first out of the door when class ended. She turned down an empty hallway, a shortcut she would always take with Theo when she was too lazy to hike through the large castle.
“Hey, Y/N, right?” Someone questioned.
Y/N looked over her shoulder, half-expecting another guy to shoot his shot after hearing the news about her and Theo. Instead, it was actually Theo.
“I’m Theodore Nott, nice to meet you again.”
Y/N stared at his outstretched hand before slowly shaking it. “Nice to see you too, Theo. Where are you heading?”
“To the kitchen to bake some cookies with a certain beautiful girl. Would you care to tag along?”
When Theo said he wanted to start over, Y/N didn’t know he’d take it to the very beginning.
“What kind of cookies?” She asked as they walked through the hallway, hands linked.
“Your favourite along with a cup of coffee while you study herbology. Just like old times.”
