Pero en la inauguración de su iglesia, llega el demonio Zed (Zedirex The Tormenter) para visitar a Stanley y pedirle sus poderes de vuelta, pero Stanley lo amenaza, el detalle es que Zed le avisa que el no es el único demonio del infierno, que lo que esta haciendo con su iglesia ha despertado la ira de otros demonios que vienen por el. Este cómic sigue alimentando esta intriga tan interesante y aterradora con una narración brillante. Arte Es intenso, explícito y con una textura que hace que cada panel sea aterrador y apoya el tono terrorífico de este cómic. Trying something new

Long story short, I started looking for a job almost 1 year ago and I’m still hitting the pavement. Okay, not literally, because no one will hire if you show up at their office because I guess that’s creepy now. 

A couple of months ago, I was feeling really shitty. I go through these phases of feeling depressed and hopeless, like nothing will ever work out and I’ll be working as a server in a restaurant for the rest of my life, never able to pay off my student loans, never retire. Some are worse than others. I’m sure you’ve had similar existential crises, and if you haven’t, this blog is not for you. 

I was in one of those cycles and when I get to feeling like a hopeless sad sack, I’m self-aware enough to know what’s happening. I quickly dismiss (or suppress) the feelings of worthlessness and self-pity and pick myself up. I’ll say things to myself like, “it’s okay, things are gonna work out. SOMETHING has to work out. Eventually.” And wasting my time being stuck in the cycle of misery has never helped me. Well, it has probably served me in some way that I’m not entirely aware of, and for that I am grateful for my fucked up coping mechanisms. 

In this period of moping and auditioning for the part of Eeyore in the upcoming live action Winnie the Pooh, I decided to try something new. I have gotten into comic books lately. My favorite TV show of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and there were 7 seasons before it was canceled. Little did I know, they made a bunch of seasons in graphic novel form and they are AMAZING! 

There was an opening at this kind-of-big-deal local comic book/graphic novel publisher for a licensing coordinator role and I applied for it. Back in the day, when I needed a job, I would pound the pavement with resume’s in hand and actually walk into places and introduce myself. I got many jobs just that way. Yes, they were all in restaurants. Keep in mind, I’m a girl of humble origins and I’m still learning how things work in this big kid professional sphere. 

You guessed it. I drove my ass down to their office with a shiny hard copy of my CV. The idea was that by doing something unique and refreshing, they would be like, “wow, this girl must really want this and she stands out because she made the effort to come down here” and I would get the job. I was pumped! This was going to be awesome! 

I walked in the door and the front office was straight out of the 80′s. It was tiny, beige, and claustrophobic. I imagined on the other side of the door were illustrators and writers creating amazing art and writing space-and-time-traveling thrillers. Like the 1940′s when Captain America was fighting the Nazi’s. I imagined every cog was turning in the great creative machine that produced epic stories. Back in reality, the front office held a receptionist’s desk, two chairs, and a couple plants of questionable authenticity. It looked dark and dingy. I walked up to the receptionist with a big smile on my face and told her I applied for whatever job and that I was trying something different and asked if there was someone I could talk to. 

This bitch was not impressed by my tactic. She looked at me, unsmiling, and told me that if anything, showing up in person would most definitely hurt my chances at being asked for an interview. The whole interaction lasted maybe 60 seconds and I was turned out onto the street, shiny curriculum vitae still in hand. I was absolutely crushed. I felt helpless and frustrated. Rejected. But, being the relentless optimist that I am, I noticed a comic book store across the street. Deciding not to waste a trip, a went in and talked to the very friendly employee and ended up with 4 graphic novels. The first 3 books of the SAGA series and book 1 of Harrow County. Take that, front desk bitch. I hope someone pulls the rug out from under you one day. I guess that’s what I get for trying to be original. 

A couple months later, they informed me that they hired someone else for the position. Yeah, no shit.

If I was to make a list of my favourite comic series #HarrowCounty would be in the top three. It's dark, gritty, brimming with gory folklore, beasties, social commentary, and last but not least - the artwork is just plain stunning. One of my favourite comic books. I've read it as single issues, trades and now in a gorgeously produced Library Edition. Cullen Bunn spins a horrific yarn like he's telling the tale around an old campfire while Tyler Crook manages to produce page after page of gorgeous art.
