Harmonia (Azem)

Born out in the country, Harmonia was never forced to wear the communal robes of Amaurot. Her mother was a farmer with very little atherial ability. Without the creation magic that most of their kin had, Khaya was always at a disadvantage. Though that didn't stop her father, Cicero, from falling for the woman. Granted, his family disowned him after marrying someone below him. Not that he cared, given that they were a toxic bunch.

Harmonia was welcomed into the world at the expense of her mother's ability to have more children. It was a complicated pregnancy, and at times, it seemed like the little girl they were so ready for would have also been lost. For Khaya and her father, the trade-off was worth it. Thusly, Harmonia was spoiled quite a bit as a small child.

Though she was given most things she wanted, Harmonia was still expected to work on the farm once she was old enough. The farm work was something that she found she enjoyed. Over the years, Harmonia would take on more and more of the work simply because she enjoyed it. This led to her basically taking over the farm until it was sold for them to move to Amaurot.

It was something her parents didn't tell her about until the farm was already sold. It earned them quite the reaction as she slammed her bedroom door in their faces and refused to come down for dinner. It was her father that would be the one to try and smooth things over. Something he was able to do by explaining why they were moving to the capital. He also threw in that those in the city might know how to help her better make use of her abilities.

Harmonia agreed to go, and so they were off the capitol within a few days' time. They would arrive in the Polyleritae Waterways in the middle of the night. The closed-in area was at the lowest point in the city, and she decided early on that she didn't like it. Though she would have to live with it for the moment until she could get her own place. Which would be the first thing on her to-do list.

Her first day in the city was a fumble due to her being unaware of the communal robes. Harmonia had thought her outfit was cute, and she had made it herself to boot. The bobbin lace for the shirt had taken her months to construct alone. This left her exceedingly displeased when everyone gave her funny looks and whispered as she passed.

As she reached the Akademia Andyrs, a white-haired male would confront her about her clothing. Harmonia had blinked at him and told him she had no idea about the communal robes. The growing crowd around them made her very antsy until a lilac-haired man managed to get them to clear out. Hades and Hythlodeaus helped her through the day and the many days that were to come.

As a young Zorua N used to live with his brother, another Zorua and the other Pokemon in Pinwheel Forest. One day a young Ghetsis was traveling into the Pinwheel Forest monologuing how he wants to separate humans away from Pokemon. N blindingly seeing this as his parents who were killed by their abusive trainers made a decision transforming into a young, green haired boy and allowing himself to be adopted by the future power hungry madman being unaware of the uncertain consequences and decisions that'll change the future and his life forever.

Fun facts about N.

1. N used to be called Zeref. He still being called by his original name by his brother.

2. N's ability in using telepathy is far better than his brother when they were Zoruas.

3. N has a deep fear of claustrophobia and hates the thought and idea of being inside of a PokeBall, but doesn't fear being near them unless his disguised illusion off.

I'm always open for making HCs! It's not an open request, just you guys suggesting things to me and I give you my thoughts and all.

Ares is trying to break the generational trauma cycle, learning from his great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents. He isn't the most beloved child of either Zeus or Hera, so he makes sure none of his kids, mortal or immortal, has to feel the same.

When Aphrodite was pregnant with any of their children, Ares would talk to them every night. He wasn't very good at baby-talking, basically just talking to his kids like they were his battle comrades. Aphrodite laughed at him the entire time.

When Aphrodite gave birth to Eros and Anteros (their first children), Ares was at her side to support. The mighty god of war then fainted TWICE during the procedure, hitting his head on a desk in the second time, but managed to keep himself conscious enough to see his kids before fully passing out.

Eileithyia later bans Ares from getting into the delivery room because she doesn't want to deal with her brother fainting again. And Ares throws a fit.

The birth of Phobos and Deimos was hell. Because he was banned, Ares was screaming outside of the delivery room, begging to come in to see if his kids were alright. Eileithyia prayed that someone will restrain her before she dash outside and smack her brother's head out of the window.

Aphrodite was super worn out after delivering Phobos and Deimos. So Ares let her rest while he held the twins each on one arm and "breastfeed" them with bottles taped on his chest XDDD

When Harmonia was born, Ares held her in his arms all the time, just staring at her tiny face for hours and not realizing he was crying. Nobody knows why he was like that. Ares didn't know why either.

Ares would let Harmonia braid his hair with flowers and bowties. He won't put on his war helmet on for a long time just to show off his daughter's work, even when he's going into battle.

If you laugh at his braided hair, that's one spear in your ass :)

Although Ares wasn't the bio father of the rest of the Erotes gang, he is their sorta-father-figure.

Ares is the type of dad who secretly gives you permission behind your mom's back. Eros is a little shit because daddy spoiled him and always got his back.

Ares helped Eros convinced Aphrodite to cease her scorn and try to accept Psyche into the family. It was hard work and took them centuries, but Aphrodite finally did get over her anger toward Psyche.

The list of Ares' good dad moments will be incomplete if we don't include Alcippe.

After killing Halirrhothius, Ares frantically turned to Alcippe to make sure she is alright. At first, he thought Alcippe would refuse him coming near because of what happened earlier. But to his surprise, Alcippe jumped into his arms right away and cried her fear out. Ares just held his daughter and be her anchor, and they stayed like that in silence.

When Ares was put in trial for murdering his daughter's assaulter, he did not regret a thing and was ready to receive all punishment. He even had his last words if he were to be imprisoned for all eternity: "If his children were ever attacked again, he would crawl out of Tartarus and drag the attackers down with him."

Hippolyta and Penthesileia, his Amazonian daughters, are personally trained by Ares, basically growing up under his eyes. They can be slaying enemies left and right and covered in blood and Ares will be cheering for them the loudest in the background.

But truth be told, there is still a dark side of Ares' blinding devotion to his children. Because Ares spoiled his children so much, some of them turned out to be terrible people, and yet he often turn a blind eye to his children's horrible deeds.

Heracles killed many of Ares' children during his journey because they were tyrants (Cycnus who killed travelers, Diomedes who owned man-eating horses, etc.). It's their karma serving to them, but Ares was having none of that. This is why the war god was hostile towards Heracles during his labor.

After Hippolyta's death, Ares was adamant to keep Penthesileia safe when she joined the war. And yet he still lost her to Achilles' spear.

When Ascalaphus and Penthesileia were killed in the Trojan war, Ares was ready to defied Zeus' order and rushed down to them. But, alas, he couldn't risk his father's anger and could only watch their death them from afar.

The other Olympians might not like Ares much, but most of them stood in solemn as the war god greatly mourn his children.

euridyce meilyr de argavieso whitmore was born on the 10th of march, at that precise moment when winter yields to spring, in the small, melancholic town of Merrock, Maine. Merrock, a place where the salty sea air meets dense forests, where past and present intertwine, was the backdrop of her silent and fragmented childhood.

the daughter of giunone de argavieso, a vibrant spaniard whose hands crafted fabrics into creations that enchanted the fashion world, and remington whitmore, the prodigal son of merrock, heir to an empire built upon the waves of the atlantic. the whitmore dynasty, with its long-standing tradition in the naval industry and maritime trade, had its roots firmly planted in the era of great sailing ships, expanding over the centuries to dominate global logistics, maritime transport, and luxury yacht construction. however, the power and wealth amassed by the family did not translate into harmony within the walls of the whitmore mansion.

euridyce, or riddy, as she preferred to be called, was the fifth of six siblings, a girl who grew up observing the disintegration of her home. the fights between her parents echoed through the corridors of the house, doors slamming shut, and her siblings fleeing to the streets of merrock, seeking peace away from the domestic chaos. when giunone left, without saying goodbye, leaving behind her children and husband, euridyce was nearly six years old, a birthday that was never celebrated. her mother’s departure left a deep mark on her, a scar that never truly healed.

as the years passed, the whitmore siblings grew distant from one another, each seeking refuge as far away from that cold house as possible. remington, the father, was not a malevolent presence, but his absence was a burden just as heavy. he was always immersed in his empire, in the responsibilities of a legacy that left the upbringing of his children to his own mother, the stern and distant grandma whitmore. euridyce never felt part of that world, as if she were a dissonant element, something that didn’t fit into the grand tapestry of the whitmore family. Her siblings were unique, brilliant in their own way, while she... she was just euridyce.

in high school, riddy found solace in her studies, an escape from the reality that surrounded her. determined to escape merrock and prove her worth, she dedicated herself intensely to her books, accumulating credits and honours, avoiding the parties and typical adolescent gatherings. her reward came in the form of a scholarship to harvard business school, a ticket to the world she had always dreamed of. at 18, she moved to boston, reinventing herself with every step.

at university, euridyce excelled as an exemplary student, graduating with a bachelor of arts (A.B.) in economics at 22. she became involved in various extracurricular activities, including harvard undergraduate women in business, the harvard financial analysts club, and the harvard innovation lab, along with summer internships in investment banking and strategic consulting. although less than five hours from merrock, riddy only occasionally returned to her hometown, giving in to her grandmother’s pleas of longing but never allowing it to interfere with her academic journey.

thoughts on trans ghetsis? it’s interesting to me from a perspective of n being ghetsis’s biological son, ghetsis making n king but he himself never actually became king; he resents n for being the legitimate heir to the harmonia family that he could never be, so in a sense he wants to be n, and resents n for not being the king he would have been if he could take the throne, or he wants n to be him. the same feelings exist whether or not he’s trans, but it intensifies them.

Omg yesssss!!!! The idea of trans Ghetsis is very fun to me, especially with all the resentment and envy towards N furthering because N, once again, is able to fulfill the role of king in a way he believes he never could.

I will admit I register Ghetsis in my “n is his bio son” verse as a cisgender man mainly because so many of his actions in that “canon” is centered around him trying to achieve this (to him) ideal version of himself that (to him) is how he’s supposed to be as a man born within the Harmonia family (it’s kinda like toxic masculinity! In a way….). Plus a big reason his ex leaves is due to not being able handle the repressive constraints of “traditional womanhood” and finally cracking shortly after having N. I might change my mind about this at some point but as hard as trans Ghetsis goes, for right now he is, unfortunately, cisgender to me.

N’s “mom” in this canon is a trans man though, partly because I thought it would be funny that despite Ghetsis trying to repress his sexuality and fall into heteronormativity he accidentally winds up marrying a man. Again, never beating the gay allegations.

My Twisted Wonderland OCs (As Of Now)

So, for most people who follow me, this post is gonna be kind of redundant. XD But, sort of as a way of just catching people up to date with stuff, I wanted to give you all a quick rundown of all of my major Twisted Wonderland OCs…at least, the ones that have some form of art to reference so far, which is thankfully most of them.

Not all these characters have shown up in stories YET, but I do have plans for all of them. And if anybody ever wants to commission a story featuring any of them, I’m open to hearing the ideas. Also, keep in mind, I’m only including what I consider “Major” OCs, meaning they’re students of NRC. I won’t be counting any staff OCs I’ve made, any oneshot characters I don’t plan to use again, nor any characters I still don’t have art for. I also won’t be including OCs that don’t actually belong to me, so you won’t be seeing the likes of Tock Crockwork or Harmonia here. I will be including some very, VERY basic information about each character here, including a super, SUPER condensed bio, and an art reference. With all that said…in order of appearance…

Full Name: Nakoda “Nako” Spivak

Source/Inspiration: Kaa, from Disney’s Jungle Book.

Dorm: Savanaclaw.

BIO

Nakoda is a naga who can transform from his true half-serpentine form to a more humanoid look, which is pictured above. His Unique Magic is called “Trust in Me,” and when activated, anyone who looks into his eyes and hears his voice is put under his spell, becoming a brainwashed servant, subservient to his will, adoring him and willing to do anything for him. Nako grew up in a poor neighborhood, and never really felt he had much control over his own life; he turned to crime in an attempt to gain control of his life, and eventually made his way to Night Raven College. Nako is both constantly hungry and constantly thirsty; when he says he wants you inside of him, he can mean it two different ways, sometimes at the same time. He has a very dirty mind and constantly carries himself with a sensual, seductive, domineering air. However, under the lusty bravado, he has many insecurities; he’s prone to throwing tantrums when he’s particularly frustrated, and if he’s threatened, his inner cowardice shows itself quickly.

BIO

Billy is a literal giant; an ogre who hails from the Kingdom Above the Clouds. He is actually a distant descendant/relative of the legendary Giant who terrorized Happy Valley and stole the Singing Harp, although the way HE learned the story was rather different: he is proud of his heritage. His Unique Magic - “Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum” - is a throwback to his ancestor, and allows Billy to change into anything he wants. Billy is actually a pretty gentle giant: having not had many attachments growing up, he really just wants to make friends above all else, and tends to be cheerful and affectionate in everything he does. At times he does show a slight ego, or a slightly aggressive, even occasionally mischievous, edge. However, he’s usually very friendly and sweet-natured. While he isn’t very bright…AT ALL…Billy is very loyal to those he considers his friends (which is practically everyone), and will do anything he can to help them. Elias G. Inque is a theatrical soul of the highest sort. He is the consummate “theatre kid,” in love with popular musicals and Shakespeare, especially, and forever craving the spotlight. Elias’ Unique Magic, “Inkwell,” allows him to physically transform into a being made purely of Blot, and allows him to manipulate the inky substance to his own ends. However, staying too long in this “Blot Form” can lead to an absolutely MONSTROUS Overblot situation, so he uses his powers as sparingly as possible. Elias used his UM to take on a dual identity: the mysterious thief called The Phantom Blot - a title that has been passed on over the centuries to different people. As the Phantom, Eli enacted an elaborate scheme to try and gain some form of recognition, which he never felt he had enough of in life; nowadays, he’s more or less reformed…but you should still make sure to mind your valuables around him. Eli is in some ways a very grounded, casual individual, and in other ways a total and complete ham. He’s typically laid-back and easygoing, but he has a decided flair for the melodramatic, unable to resist the chance to deliver over-the-top monologues and sing grand musical numbers. Being a dogboy, he’s also pretty constantly ravenous. Do not trust him when he activates the puppy dog eye maneuver.

Reno, much like Nakoda, is a beastly creature in disguise. His true form is a green half-bug creature, but he typically hides this by taking on a more humanoid appearance. Reno is crass, crude, loud, rough, and slightly paranoid. His parents are the owners of a once-prosperous casino and hotel, which - until recently - was in bad danger of closing down due to lack of sufficient support and funds. Reno grew up around gamblers, and he’s become VERY fond of various games: from chess to poker to various dice games and more, Reno is a master player of many things…but he doesn’t always play fair. Hypocritically, he’s quick to call others cheats if he feels he’s losing too easily. Reno’s Unique Magic is “Bug Eyes,” which allows him to control the minds of insects and even see through their eyes. The more insects he controls at once, the more magic he has to output, which means that overuse in large doses can lead to Overblot. Being an insectoid type himself, Reno is very fond of bugs, and actually keeps an ant farm in his room, treating the ants like truly beloved pets. Underneath his surly and slightly unsettling demeanor, Reno does have a soft side…he just doesn’t always like to show it.

BIO

James is the son of a teacher and a sailor, and his personality matches both. He’s fond of using nautical phrases, and knows a great deal about the ocean, sailing, and other such things. On the flip side, he’s a bit grandiloquent and scholarly, enjoying classical literature and subjects of history, in particular. He’s also skilled as a swordsman; a gifted and practiced fencer who actually carries a cane sword on him at all times. James is an attention hog of the highest order: he is ALWAYS trying to play himself up as a charismatic and grand figure, in the typical style of a swashbuckling cavalier, and has no small amount of vanity. In reality, much of this showboating hides a deep-rooted sense of insecurity, as James has always felt like nobody appreciates him, due to events that happened in his life before coming to NRC. On that note, James has an arch-rival who attends Royal Sword Academy: Matthew Satyr, a former classmate and fellow fencer who has long been a thorn in James’ side. Whenever Killian and Satyr are anywhere near each other, or when Matthew’s name gets brought up, James becomes OBSESSED and filled with passionate, vengeful anger. It is one of his many great weaknesses. James’ Unique Magic is called “Doubt & Deception”: whenever he touches someone with his left hand, he can then activate this power by snapping the fingers of the same hand. The person he has touched will then suddenly be overcome by a wave of intense, depressing emotions, and the weight of these thoughts will quite literally drag them down, forcing them to move slower, or even outright become paralyzed with despair. The insidious thing about this power is that, once James has touched somebody, he can activate it at any time…but once he uses it one time, he has to touch you again before he can use it a second time.

BIO

Smitty is James Killian’s best friend and effective partner in crime. The two have known each other for years, long before both came to Night Raven and were each sorted into Heartslabyul. Smitty is extremely loyal to James, genuinely looking up to him and wanting to help him in any way he can. He worries about his friend constantly, always trying to find ways to help James relax when he knows he’s stressed out…and less-than-secretly hoping James will someday put aside the grudge he has on Matthew Satyr. Smitty is small and sweet-tempered, very mild-mannered and occasionally a stutterer, which often causes people to underestimate him…which he really doesn’t mind, as - unlike James - Smitty has never really demanded attention nor the spotlight. He’s perfectly happy just following his friend. However, Smitty’s Unique Magic - called “Blast Them!” - is probably one of the most potently destructive of any ability: it works similarly to Bakugou’s power from MHA, as Smitty is able to create and project fiery, explosive pulses. In smaller doses, they do little more than knock opponents flat onto their backs, but they can become much more dangerous when used in rapid succession. Smitty doesn’t fully have control over his power (he’s not the best aim), which makes it all the more unpredictable when activated.

Maelstrom is a mer-whale in disguise, with a bullying, thuggish personality. He suffers from what might be called “I Am the Hype! Syndrome.” Basically, he grew up believing that he was perfect: the strongest, toughest, most powerful thing in the entire world. Something happened, however, that caused Maelstrom to rethink his own worldview…and, unable to fully cope with the realization of his fundamental weakness, he effectively snapped. Maelstrom now spends his time flaunting his powers and strength, belittling and oppressing rather than seeking to help and serve. He’s a total glutton, too, and this fact isn’t helped by his Unique Magic: “Belly of the Whale.” This ability allows Maelstrom to form a whirlpool-like suction that can drag anything (or anyone) of virtually any size into his stomach, trapping them in a sort of hammerspace type situation. Typically, victims who are swallowed by Maelstrom will not be allowed to escape his stomach unless he allows them to. Beneath this nasty exterior, however, Maelstrom does have his soft sides: he secretly has a deep love of music and art, in particular…but don’t bring that up, or you might end up his dinner.

Theodore is a vindictive, ambitious young man who feels cheated by the world. He actually doesn’t WANT to be a part of Night Raven College, at least at first, and thus behaves in a cruel, vicious, brutal, standoffish sort of way. His temperament is highly mercurial, able to go from relatively calm and collected to cackling like a deranged lunatic almost at the drop of a hat. He’s snappy, snarly, and doesn’t like crowds. He’s also very power hungry…literally. Theodore is constantly seeking ways to increase his power levels as a mage, believing that only by gaining more power can he get what he truly wants. His Unique Magic - “Fly, My Pretties!” - allows him to summon a horde of shadowy creatures that resemble Flying Monkeys, which serve his will. Theodore is a flying ace: he’s INCREDIBLY skilled on a magic broomstick, and it’s a talent he’s extremely proud of. Once again, while he often seems quite unpleasant, Theodore does have his soft sides: for one thing, he has a massive sweet tooth, and eats perhaps too much candy and cookies for his own good…but that’s another story. There are some other OCs I have in mind for TW, but they haven’t been given workable artwork yet. Some of these characters - namely Theo and Maelstrom - haven’t even been featured in writing at all yet. Time will tell when those events occur.

Three of three for The Liminal Universe / The Dark Ega! This post is just worldbuilding for an alien species known as The Nullborn, and some artwork related to that.

Here we go:

Nullborn

Those Who Bore Witness

The first species to create a cross-system empire, the nullborn are a people of pragmatism, efficiency and empathy. The nullborn homeworld was at one point the planet Eris, but the planet was nearly inhospitable before the nullborn became cross-system, and afterward became completely uninhabitable. Currently, the planet with the most nullborn activity would be Harmonia, the loss of Eris appears to have had no effect on nullborn society other than from a resource perspective. Nullborn are masters of biotech, and were the first to create Mods, capable of modifying an organism body and genome in a very short timeframe, which Humans later reverse-engineered and sold. 

Nullborn can reproduce asexually or with any number of other nullborn, samples of tissue (a piece of exoskeleton, a small chunk of flesh, a segment of fin) are placed in a sack, the material is dissolved and re-distributed amongst a number of nul, the number of nul increasing based on the volume of material used. The nul will then seek out and take another genetic sample from a native Eris lifeform, creating a semi-hybrid creature called a "Unit." Each unit is assigned a different role in nullborn society, though it's not a caste system as a nullborn can change unit type at any time. Due to the fact that the nullborn easily accept their fellows in all their strange shapes and sizes, they're very open towards other people, no matter how odd they are.

The lifeforms of Eris have many other oddities. For example, Null creatures do not breath, though many have biological processes that inadvertently mimic breathing. Secondly, Null creatures do not simply derive energy from their food, but can also steal functional cells, and re-incorporate them into their own biology. This process was the basis for the invention of Bio-Reincorporation Units, a staple of Null biotech. Due to the cell-stealing abilities of Nullborn and other Null creatures, they are largely immune to disease, able to quickly commandeer hostile bacteria and viruses.

Hi, I’m the person who asked about Ghetsis and the paradox of his attitude towards N’s ability half a year ago. I’m very very sorry for taking so inappropriately long to answer, had a lot going on.

I gravitate towards the theory that N and Ghetsis might be distant relatives with a common ancestor, which would explain a lot of things, from physical similarities to the denial of fatherhood. They could have any other type of blood connection besides that of a parent a child - after all, royal family trees tend to be huge and messy. I think N comes from the direct lineage (which grants him special powers), while Ghetsis might be from an offshoot of the original family. In other words, the former is the legitimate successor of the king and has more rights to the throne. He’s also closer to their progenitor personality-wise.

(There are a couple of more reasons why I don’t think Ghet is N’s bio father. Taking into account the stigma surrounding adoption in Japan makes me wonder if there was an out-of-universe cause for portraying Lusamine more positively that Ghetsis. That is not to say the green satan should’ve been redeemed; imao both characters deserve to rot in hell. I just suspect that the writers only let Lusamine (and not the other villain) off the hook due to her being a biological parent. And speaking of parents... this one’s purely subjective, but I find it hard to envision Ghetsis in a stable, serious long-term relationship leading to pregnancy. Taking an orphan under your wing for evil purposes is one thing, but living with a s/o and having them bear your child is another. I don’t believe a “one-night stand gone wrong” scenario is plausible and fitting for his personality either).

As for the paradox, I’ve come up with three possible explanations.

1. Ghetsis got overwhelmed by plain old envy. Taking his royal origins very seriously, he brought together the sages, worked on searching the ruins, and adhered to a certain image. And then there was N, who simply happened to be born with the king’s abilities and in the right lineage, which automatically made him the true heir. Of course, this wouldn’t really matter to normal people, since Unova is no longer a monarchy and there’s no need for heirs, but it’s Ghetsis we’re talking about. All of his insults towards N could stem from jealousy and a sense of rivalry. I suppose observing how his adopted son just managed to resemble King Harmonia naturally (no pun intended) must’ve unnerved Ghetsis a lot. Oh, and their physical similarities could’ve added insult to injury, constantly reminding him that they share some dna, but N is still a more worthy descendant.

2. Ghetsis indulged in cherry-picking. Despite cherishing his legacy, he had his own weird ideas about ruling and disregarded some of the king’s tenets anyway (“Do not be barbaric”, “Think, act with love”, “Wars create tears”). Perhaps Ghet did consider the monarch freaky for the special ability but acknowledged his achievements nonetheless.

3. Double standards were at fault. He could excuse a great king talking to Pokemon but drew the line at some odd forest kid who fails to understand even humans doing the same thing.

TL;DR: 1) Ghetsis didn’t consider the ability inherently despicable, it’s just that he gave vent to envy and blind rage whenever his ward was concerned.

2) He viewed the trait as freakish indeed but avoided internal dissonance by focusing on historical facts he deemed favourable and downplaying/ignoring everything else.

3) It’s selective morality and mental gymnastics all the way down. He didn’t mind cutting the king some slack yet refused to extend the same courtesy to N.

Since I’m drawing on the assumption that the characters come from different branches of difference significance, I’m inclined to think Ghetsis cannot talk to Pokémon after all. Besides, if he could, he would’ve had a much easier time achieving his goals in BW.

By the way, I can’t stop thinking about just how much Ghetsis lost by pushing N away. He rejected not only his son but also an invaluable potential ally - an ally who could’ve aided greatly in his research. Teaming up with a genius who’s personally invested in exploring the ruins (who would’ve been invested had he known about his lineage, I mean) and possesses unique powers is a perfect scenario one could only dream of. Nevertheless, Ghetsis decidedly gave up that opportunity and let pride (perhaps along with envy) outweigh all other feelings, thoughts, and aspirations. In the end, pride managed to win over his interest in the heritage and over his reverence. That, in my opinion, is one of the greatest undoings of King Harmonia’s descendant. He chose to ruin his own life, to brutally sever ties with the only person in the world who genuinely loved him and who shared blood and legacy with him. You once wrote that Ghetsis holds answers to 90% of BW’s mysteries; well, the number could be brought to 100% if only he wasn’t an utter bastard.

Gosh, it has been months since this one arrived at my askbox and I just thought I would cook the answer over time and it never happened. Apologies for that. The time has come. Finally, guh!! So fret not anon, the pain of taking shitton of time to reply is mutual. So I think it's OK.

I also think about the common ancestor between those two, but more in an annoyed, grumbly manner of "fine, if it's not direct relation I will take anything". And indeed that could be a more canon-supported way of connecting those two, precisely for arguments you are mentioning.

(As a side note, though, in Pokemas Ghetsis says that they are not bound by blood. In same sentence calling him his son. Ngl I love the way Ghetsis riffs off on family ties to try and manipulate and/or hurt N. Amazing.)

But I would wonder about legitimacy - we kinda do know Ghetsis feels entitled to the crown and I don't think there is more to that than just hunger for power and N being the King of Plasma is entirely Ghetsis' idea...

(In a way, it's something that could not even hinge on N because, uh, USUM: in which Ghetsis planned to do exactly the same shit he pulled off in his universe (in which he already took over and succeeded in his plans) but with Giovanni of all people. But then, in that case Ghetsis doesn't have to add the element of being chosen by Zekrom/Reshiram, so maybe it's just a repeat run with no reasoning but pieces aligning.)

But my point is - Ghetsis' idea of him being the one deserving the power he craves doesn't come purely from his own hunger, I think. But then, he couldn't become the chosen hero. If he could, it would make things much more simple for him and wouldn't bother with finding/arranging N. Which is... something I can't help but wonder about, what would N be if Ghetsis wasn't here.

I don't know about stigma of adoption in JP, could you elaborate? 

And yeah, admittedly I am also a bit disappointed about Lusa being protrayed with significant backpedal to her evil - even despite SM compounding that ultimately she wasn't entirely in control of her own actions. I also think that what you say now is also what happened in B2W2 - the blood relation between N and Ghetsis wasn't elaborated upon, being more left vaguely in the air in BW while it was B2W2 that compounded the lack of relation. Which is... sad, really. And not the only thing I am :/ about in terms of things spoken out loud and simplified in B2W2 that in BW were implied or left unsaid (shadow triad theory my beloved ;;;A;;; )

I entirely agree about points with Ghetsis not being able to sustain any relationship (c'mon, it's Ghetsis.) (on that note I always remember that one fantastic kinkmeme fic about Ghetsis being actually woman dressed as a man and getting her child from Alder by manipulation, 10/fucking 10, but I am carried away over here) and I think one night stands would be entirely beneath him. But I think there is no need to consider, shall we say, normal ways of prgnancy and if anything, I wouldn't be surprised if Ghetsis tried to go for less moral means, starting with manipulation and ending with force.

I did now write a bit about 1. (look, I am replying as I read and think OK, I am not good with structured writing stuff) but in a way I think it's important that symbolism carries weight in Pokemon World while history is in a way pushed aside or bestowed upon small group of individuals as lore or hidden knowledge that does ultimately carry great power. I always wonder what happened first - did Ghetsis reach out to the lore and hidden knowledge because of his own background and that inspired him to try and reach for power? Or did he reach for it in his search for power?? Just another mystery.

(which, hilariously, N wondered about in Pokemas either: Sometimes I wonder what his... What Ghetsis's past was like. I don't know anything about his parents or his childhood... I wonder if I ever will." Man, those lines made me froth at mouth a bit ngl)

You mentioning physical similarities is one thing I adore to ponder about with those two, but when you throw the theory that Ghetsis due to his Harmonia lineage can understand Pokemon speaking... and considering how he treats that ability in N, there could be some repressed rage at himself, and that would only add fuel to injury to seeing the way N reaches what he cannot. (Which kinda breaks the point number 3 for me wwwww Ghetsis is a bit of a hateful individual)... My point is: yeah, he hates that and surpresses that. He could have used that to his own goals, but I don't think he would even admit that he can do such a monstrous thing.

Re: 2, I wonder if he misinterpreted / chose to misinterpret the tenets less as what to do and more as what to portray. To be fair, Ghetsis can be perfectly charming and polite (kind, if you ask him, but ahah, yeah, right) and maybe he used those rules as tips and tricks how to manipulate the masses.

Ghetsis indeed fucked up royally (lol) by revealing his cards too soon (in Pokemas as well, really, he could have carried on that act of disgraced and regretful father for so much longer). But then, I am a little not surprised he did, in BW. He did spend a good few years playing someone he is not and the moment he could throw away the mask was surely a relief, and he believed so deeply he'd succeeded that he didn't think of keeping it on his face for just a tiny bit more, as a failsafe. Indeed, he could do so much more, but he detested N too deeply and believed in how own capabilities too much. Pride and hatred and indeed, envy, no matter which angle we use to look at it.

Ultimately, that's why he is a villain and why he lost, not even once but twice.
