‘What good are characters if they’re one-note? Certainly not realistic by any stretch of the imagination. The women and men of Harlots are complex creatures. Lydia Quigley is one of the best characters on television, in my humble opinion. Lesley Manville is phenomenal, injecting Lydia with nuance and vinegar. You want to hate her, but you also sympathize with her. One moment you’re longing for Lydia to meet the noose, and the next moment you’re rooting for her.

To me, that’s the mark of award-worthy acting and writing. You want your viewers to feel for these characters – perhaps even relate to them. Lydia is just a prime example of how Harlots is adept at churning out complex and beautifully broken characters. This alone is enough to draw anyone in – at least it was for me.’

via Holli Dempsey insta: So much about Episode 6 of Harlots made me cry. So many aspects. Even though I’ve read the scripts over and over, I still wasn’t prepared. Every episode this series has had an epic loss that we are forced to deal with and carry on... In that sense Harlots reflects real life more than anything I’ve seen on TV. How cheap life can be especially for certain demographics, how nothing last forever, and how Life is what you (try to) make it. I’ve genuinely learnt so much more working on Harlots than any school history lesson managed to teach me... Bringing the History books to Life and telling the stories rarely told 💜 Also I’m loving the (stinking) energy this one has brought to her character Rosamund Sugarcunt this season!! 😆😆 As if Emily needed any more trouble!!!
