I remember making a post about this in the past but I think Tumblr ate it, so I'm happy to do it again! Thank you @writernopal for the tag!

How-to: Rate your OCs based on how they handle cuddling/being cuddled.

Featuring the main cast of Agent Ace, plus a few supporting characters because more the merrier! Going down the list in order of most pleasant to least pleasant.

Jade - 10/10

Cuddling is her ultimate love language. If you're friends with her, she'll hold you tight and close at any opportunity, especially if you're feeling sad, but she lets you decide when to let go. She's firm but gentle and warm, and is the type of person to hug you out of excitement or casually rest her head on your shoulder. Plus her shampoo smells like coconut, which makes the snuggle experience that much more lovely!

Jet - 9/10

He'll try to convince you that he's a tough guy, but he's got an ooey-gooey center that he's terrible at hiding. He's extremely protective of the people he loves and, even though he'll claim that you're the one who looked like you needed a cuddle, he not so secretly loves every minute of it. Loses a point for his penchant for aggressively affectionate noogies and shoulder punches, but how can you be mad at the guy who literally falls asleep with you in his arms?

Harley - 8/10

She's too shy to make the first move, but she loves being held (she's a little spoon), and does her best to match the strength of the hug she's receiving. A chronic people-pleaser, but also genuinely happy to take part. Most of the time she'll be down to cuddle, and will probably offer to build a pillow fort so you can have a comfortable space to share together. And if you're not a fan of silence, she'll chat with you for hours!

Janus - 7/10

If he doesn't trust you (and he only trusts himself), you're not getting close to him. But if you're one of the few people he opens up to, then he's surprisingly comfy. He's strong and touch-starved, which is a great combo when it comes to cuddling. That being said, there are only like, two people who have ever gotten to that point with him, so good luck getting anything out of him. Thanks to past trauma, he no longer yearns for anyone's love or validation.

Max - 5/10

Not really a hugger in general (and very awkward about it), but he tries for his friends and family because he wants to make them happy. He probably wouldn't ever cuddle, but appreciates that you're thinking about him and would love to hang out! :)

Sophia - 4/10

She has a strong aversion to being touched and rarely tolerates physical contact from anyone, especially if she's not close to them. Ahren is the only person she would ever want to cuddle with, but even then it's not normally a priority for them. Most of the time they're perfectly content simply having one another's company.

Ahren - 3/10

If you're not Sophia, he won't consider it. He'll still hug you hello or goodbye, tho, and he's cool with fist bumps if you're into that.

August - 2/10

Also touch-starved, so he's good in theory, except for two crucial facts. One, he's not used to physical affection and would have no idea how to react if you tried to cuddle him. And two, he cannot. Sit. Still. He'd squirm and shift around constantly, probably elbowing you in uncomfortable places while apologizing profusely. The man's just trying his best, what more do you want from him?

A mystery man!

There was this man in his mid thirties, with un-conditioned beard, which is not actually long one, but the face has never seen a razor for long. A yellow-red sarong kinda thing across his forehead tied behind his head covering his hair was drenched with his sweats, which was dripping through it, between his reddish eyes over a protruding nerve which was flaunting loud and clear ‘Yeah! I’m the man!’ He was wearing a black t-shirt with a military-cargo pants and a pointed leather shoe, sitting on a small stool in the middle of a garage. His Gucci glasses and the shining Harley-Davidson keys over his leather jacket were proving that he wasn’t just a garage worker. Judging by the current scene, his fingers had been smeared with good amount of grease, even on the riding gloves which did not look like he would use it for a second time. He was actually re-building an 1981 Japan-made Yamaha RX-100. His garage was filled with antique Royal-Enfield bullets, 1980’s yamaha and suzuki two-stroke naked bikes, 1970’s imported java, Rajdooths, and many other cruiser bikes which are rarely seen on Indian main stream or were yet to be seen. The garage wasn’t a fancy one, in fact it didn’t even have proper flooring, but it had all the facilities within, enough to build a new bike. He never used to speak to anyone there, other than a small shopkeeper where he used to buy cigarettes, and the only worker in the garrage, who was his helper, assistant, accountant, courier boy etc. in short he used to play all the roles that is necessary in a garage other than the mechanic. He was village’s mystery man. People used to gossip about him that he was a business-man in south India who got bankrupted and did flee here starting a garage some where between Leh and Manali. He lived in a small house made of bamboo at the top of a small hill. People used to see him only in early morning or late night, riding his 1957’s Harley-Davidson XL-883-Sportster, making loud noise. People used to come from different places with their bikes to his garage with appointment through his online site. No one really knew about him in person. He was a tall-dark-big man with dead eyes, who was so goddamn unsocialistic that no one ever imagined what his past life would look like. Probably that is what he wanted.

Spiti Valley is indeed an exotic remote area in the sights of Himachal Pradesh. IT shines like a beacon of exclusivity. I took the time out to tell my nana that I was safe and I was travelling in a region high in altitude with almost zero communication services. I had hired a four-wheeler which was apt for high altitudes to take me through the Spiti Valley. Spiti means Middle Land, the land between India and Tibet. It is the northernmost part of Himachal and is the least populated area of India. It is home to the Buddhist sect called Vajrayana. It is the home of the famous Key and Tab Monastery, the oldest monasteries in the world and the summer abode of the Dalai Lama himself. On the Northern route of Manali, Kelong, the Rohtang Pass all the way to Kunzum Pass, the valley stretches far and wide and the altitudes range from 13500 ft to more than 1500 ft.

I was like a lost boy in this valley for over ten days. The monasteries were a special attraction for me. Spiti is the home of the semi-nomadic gaddi sheep and goat herders who come from the villages nearby to graze their animals. I put myself in one of the many small guest houses in the valley with a very basic affair. The room cost about Rs 1500. They have hot water facilities with blankets, a warm bed and TV in each room. The food is served in the room or dining halls. The chicken curry and rotis can especially be very nice in this part of the region.

This was just the place for me as I chatted away to Swedish Bikers who had come over for a hot meal. I told them about my blog and my travels and they listened in with great appreciation. They even took down my URL. An Indian couple dining with us recognised me from one of my Ads – the Shock Laga Laga Ad from Havel switches. I told them about the meeting of mine with Karappa Lama and the questions I had asked him especially concerning my dad’s murder and whether I should ask for the death penalty for those who did it. The nights are chilly in the valley and I often got up early in the morning to have a hot water bath before going for long walks to observe the place.  Small shops cater to the population and most things like cold drinks, biscuits, baggies, chocolates, mineral water and cigarettes are available in even the smaller villages. Oh, but only Gold Flake is available when it comes to cigarettes. The Monasteries, Buddhist stupas and wishing wheels can be seen all around the Valley as I interacted with fellow travellers telling them the stories from my travel diaries. A couple from Chandigarh took a liking to me as I enthralled them with my travel stories.

🤦‍♀️ - Something that continues to embarrass them to this day

The state of her handwriting. Sure, it may be legible, but only for her eyes. Plus, her spelling is terrible, which meant she would have to spend hours on her assignments in order to stay on her teachers' good sides. No matter how hard she tried, she'd always envied Jade and Max for their beautiful handwriting.

💢 - How do they handle being annoyed?

She usually tries to ignore it and hold her tongue, since her mother taught her not to cause a scene. Though she's more even-tempered than her sister, she might still let a retort slip if she's pressed further.

🤝 - Are they good with people? Are they able to get along with people and communicate effectively with the people around them?

Lab work and school science projects helped her become a great communicator, and she makes friends relatively easily. Even though she can be awkward around strangers, she manages to get along with pretty much everybody.

Ella's WIP Poll Part 2

Aight, here's another poll! This one has been eating me alive and I would honestly appreciate advice.

Like I mentioned in my previous poll, my mind has been on Agent Ace lately, and I've been having the uncomfortable desire to give some characters new names. This isn't the first time I've changed a name (Ahren had a different name in earlier drafts, and Max has gone through like four or five surnames at this point), but the characters in question are Sophia and Harley... the two main characters.

Hear me out!

Sophia's name will technically be the same, but spelled Sofia instead. The difference is that the name Sofia is more common in Spanish-speaking countries, and since the character Sophia is half Mexican, I felt that the new variant matches with her background.

Now, Harley's had a name change before, but she's been Harley for so long that I kind of got used to it. Harley is technically a placeholder; I know I've talked about the origin of her name before. And it used to fit, but lately I've been feeling... I don't know, bored with it? It's way better than the first name I gave her, but now I'm not convinced that it fits her anymore.

So that's why I've been flirting with the idea of calling her Charlie! Here are my reasons: one, I adore the name Charlie. Two, it's similar sounding to Harley so the new adjustment/association with name and character might not be as terrible. And three, something about Charlie vibes better with the character that Harley's meant to be.

So... I don't need your permission to make these changes. But I still want to know your thoughts because I fear something as dramatic as this could make it harder to read/keep up with the story, especially if you're already familiar with the characters as they are?

What do you guys think about this? Be honest, help me out.

After her own crucial mistake resulted in a traumatic accident, she stepped down from the Guard to take up field work, scoping out potential threats in the city and gathering intel. Despite the smooth transition, her past days as the sharpshooter Ace continue to haunt her at every turn. Sophia is scrappy, tough, and competent, taking immense pride in her work and refusing to accept failure or dissatisfaction. She'll never back away from a job (or an ally in need), even if it means putting herself in danger.

“We’re all on the same side here, whether you like it or not, so your cooperation would be much appreciated."

Janus is a street-smart vigilante working alongside a shadowy organization with ambitious plans for the city of Harmont. Despite his alliance, he mainly operates under his own agenda without any regards to authority. Snarky and sarcastic but surprisingly empathetic, he isn't easily rattled. Janus is used to building up walls and working hard to bury his past from the rest of the world—including himself.

Harley Manalis is Sophia's younger sister, but due to their complicated family history and large age gap, they rarely cross paths. She loves to tinker around and discover how different mechanical creations work, considering herself an amateur inventor. After graduating high school, she was offered a robotics scholarship for the prestigious Westheight Institute, but she ultimately turned it down to accept an apprenticeship with her eccentric uncle, the talented but underrated architect Atticus Manalis. Harley is as intelligent as she is loyal, harboring a secret crush on her one of her best friends that she wishes she could share. Jade de Soto is best friends with Harley and Max, though certain feelings for the former continue to transform and grow stronger. She has a talent for chemistry, though her passion lies in street art. Participating in the medium as an anonymous artist to avoid scrutiny from the public, she works to build up a reputation and prepare her portfolio for the day she steps into the light. She's incredibly spirited and bright in terms of both brains and personality, loving her friends with dedication and ferocity.

“I might not be as strong as you, but I know more about these guys than anyone. I’m not that helpless.”

Max Ahn has been friends with Harley and Jade for many years. He's quiet and reserved, but mentally strong with a dry sense of humor (though he's rarely funny on purpose). He studies law and political science at the Westheight Institute and is extremely close with his family, though together they keep a dark secret, which he learns the hard way once he gets caught in the middle. At first, he's uncomfortable as a leader, and unsure of himself in moments of high pressure, but as he learns more and starts taking charge, he begins to grow and gain confidence in his own abilities.

Here's Sophia chilling on the streets during a nighttime mission stakeout, completely unamused with the situation. She's been in a few scuffles along the way, but she doesn't let that stop her. No rest for a Watch agent—only Band-Aid.

Janus in all his glory, living his best life. Just don't mind the knife, that's there for flavor. Nothing sketchy going on with this vigilante here, no sir.

Also, Janus condones masking up in times of sickness and of crime.

Harley lookin' hella cute (and I can finally show off her freckles)! I'd never considered this kind of look for her before now, but while experimenting with the hairstyles I fell in love with these adorable space buns!! Making note of this for her character design down the road (which may or may not include a haircut in her future)!

Also, I imagine she and Sophia spent a lot of time at the coast as children and that she loved to collect seaside trinkets—hence the message in the bottle. And or course, Jade made the flower crown for her 💜

While I tend to picture Jade with the hairstyle on the left—big, bouncy, and full of personality—I couldn't resist letting her treat herself to some braids every now and then, like the ones on her right! She also got into a pack of stickers for her golden hour photo shoot!

Finally, here's Max! Still a little beat up from his altercation with the vigilantes, but now he gets to recover by relaxing with his cat, Hudson! He wasn't expecting to have his picture taken right now, but like the sweet boy he is, he played along by awkwardly throwing up the first pose he could think of.

Character Sheet Tag

Hello, am here! I got tagged in this one by @crowandmoonwriting, @writernopal, @thewardenofwinter, AND @sam-glade. Thank you all so much! 💕

Tagging @outpost51, @obviousknife, @talesofsorrowandofruin, @moonluringfrost, and open tag for everyone else! This was so much fun to do! I keep seeing everyone else's posts and they're all hilarious!!

A couple notes first. My computer had some difficulties and would not work with me on this, so I had to resort to PRINTING OUT five sheets and filling them out by hand. Which was not a problem (aside from wonky lighting and poor readability), but I pray to god no one in this house comes across them. I honestly don't know where I would begin explaining this XD

Also, I'm in the process of commissioning art for the characters of Agent Ace, so I plan to repost this with visual representations once the sketches are complete and I've paid the artist for her hard work. <3

Happy STS! Let's pretend I answered this in the correct month, shall we? 😅

This question is great, but it's also difficult to pin down. I'll do my best to give an adequate answer!

Sophia and Janus are my most self-indulgent characters by far. They're the easiest to write about, and also the most entertaining, both individually and as a pair. They embody two of my favorite character types—Badass Woman With A Gun and Smug Little Bastard Who's Pretty And He Knows It—and their interactions are so, so juicy. I absolutely thrive off of their snark, and honestly, it's likely the reason why I have an easier time writing in Sophia's POV. I love Harley dearly and with all my heart, but these two literally occupy my brain space all hours of the day. Send help, I can't stop them

Additionally, I'm partial to found family and enemies-to-reluctant-allies (see above), but a beloved trope(?) of mine that I would call self-indulgent has to do with the bond between two sisters. Admittedly, this is more applicable to EMBR of the Earth than it is to Agent Ace (Sophia and Harley sadly don't share the page very often, so I haven't yet had the opportunity to shine light on their relationship), but I love reading about close-knit sisters, and it's becoming somewhat of an unintentional, recurring motif in my writing. I'm very close with my sister IRL, so I guess that's what makes it self-indulgent. :)

Lastly... of what I've written (and posted) so far, the most self-indulgent scenes have been all of Chapter 1 and That One Scene with Harley and Jade in Chapter 10. If you know, you know.

So. I only just started teasing the romance between Harley and Jade, so at the moment I don't have a lot to work with. But here's a sweet moment between them!

Jade had the most most amazing eyes that Harley had ever seen—deep brown and warmly intense, and when they captured the light, they came alive and danced with golden sunbursts. "What?" Jade asked, tilting her head so a stray curl fell over her forehead. Harley blinked, glancing away. "Y-You're incredible, Jade."
