Overall Review:

Pre-read:

The movie is by far one of my most favorite films of all time. I can pick it up at any point and immediately start quoting word for word. It’s my comfort film.

That being said, this read was highly anticipated, and I have not circled back yet to read Ready Player Two (though it’s on my list for next month because I am very excited that the sequel film was green lit).

Plot:

And, I think because I’ve lived the movie for years, I wasn’t made about how different the book was, BECAUSE my source material was the film, knowing the film was adapting the novel. I wasn’t attached one way or another on seeing parts of the book in the film. And because I have a mind for film, and how adaptions work, I could recognize why such significant parts of the story had to be changed, like the fact that there are 6 challenges (one per key and one per gate), or Daito and Sho being related, or iROK’s entire character (he drove me crazy tbh). To bring that to film would be such a struggle, because it’s so well layered and incorporated in the novel, with the pace and the plot structure, keeping that would not be plausible for a film timeframe and a bit too busy for the attention span of a film viewer.

Worldbuilding:

What I also really loved about the book was the detail! It was all so intricate and so reference heavy. It goes so much deeper in the book than it ever went in the film, and I love that. Because I’m the kind of person who can identify a detail as it is presented that’s meant to be hidden only to be very important later on, this book had me on the edge of my seat, I had no clue what would matter and what wouldn’t, which is exactly the reason why Halliday’s Hunt was so hard in the first place, so I really felt right in the middle of it all.

Romantic Sub-Plot:

Wade and Samantha’s relationship was a lot less interesting and a lot less necessary in the book, I felt. I didn’t really feel their chemistry much. I think their friendship only culminating in a relationship post-egg (or even moments before the final battle) would have been a lot better, especially if they had previously acknowledged that they had feelings for each other, but it didn’t feel right to explore that side of their relationship yet.

Wade:

Also!!!! Dude, Wade is so much fucking smarter than the film makes him!! He freaking infiltrates IOI (which is so much more awful in the book) and takes them all down from the inside and then freaking escapes!! Sam was legit just allowed anywhere she wanted and then walked out in the movie. He is a literal genius.

Cast:

Losing Daito IRL really made the stakes more intense than in the film, even with the stacks blowing up and the car chase. I was really sad for a while with that one, especially for Sho.

Hopefully they will get a bit of rest before the show! They definitely need it after the tour though, the schedule seemed brutal. I don't think I'd be able to cope if it was me lol. You'll have to let me know what they are like to watch live, I'm sure they'll be amazing!!

Play is such a comfort song! I have definitely cried listening to it as well haha, also haze. I really do love how they have a song for every mood lol.

I'm honestly so glad that I started to listen to them when I did. I found them at a time when I'm finally starting to think more positively about myself and seeing my own potential, like seeing that I can improve myself but also being kind to myself when I inevitably mess up. I think the messages in their songs are really comforting and make me feel seen. (Although I still remember the night when hug by seventeen absolutely broke me ahaha) Finding a talented violinist who plays music that I like has helped me want to become better in that sense too, although admittedly I have wanted to improve for a while, but Yechan has actually given me a goal which is nice. (I've started to try and learn boogie man and my respect for Yechan has went WAY up).

I have wanted to watch super and for ages!! I never knew where to find it though. I found out about it because I'd started to listen to Hoppipolla and then would watch compilation videos of clips from superband. It seems so fun! And the amount of talent would make me cry ahaha. I'll and Ha Hyunsang's voices in 1000x almost made me cry the first time I listened to it because they blended so beautifully. After getting into Lucy, I was kinda like, the bassist in the awesome cover of the Coldplay song (I can't remember what it's called lol) was Wonsang?! Yechan played viva la Vida?? With Ha Hyunsang?? That made me want to watch it more ahaha (although I don't know if I'll be emotionally prepared to see Sangyeop cry)

I'll let you know if I have any ideas haha, but definitely keep writing for Lucy! I really liked your style of writing and thought you wrote Sangyeop really well!

I swear I can cry to any lucy song cause even the happy ones have sad or relatable lyrics… the sad ones hit so fucking hard absolutely when I need to cry colourless is my go to…. Sangyeop ugh 👹👹👹👹 and when it’s a song like boogie man I just cry cause of how beautifully crafted it is cause I think abt how hard wonsang works on every song LMAO IM SO EMO KILL ME

I also feel like I found them at just the right time but like for the opposite reason. I was going through intense burnout and listening to stove while I worked on schoolwork was the only thing keeping me going :( (along w bambam ty husband <3)

the thing is, headcanons are something i’ve only done once before (and even then, the format was different) so i was really not sure how this was gonna go. but given what i was going through during this time, writing this piece became sort of a catharsis for me. and while i have yet to fully let go so i can heal, at least there’s a work out there where my muses get that

Let's put one of my weird intrests to good use: Let's go through Alexei's prison tattoos and why Marvel probably didn't realize what they did here.

The face of a woman do have a meaning but in this case i strongly suspect they just wanted a tattoo that looked like Melina. Else it's the sign someone has been initiated into the Vory v zakone when on the chest which concidering his other tattoos can be the case.

The "thiefs" stars on the clavicles (they change meaning depending on place feet being the lowest) are a indicator for a highly ranked (captain most likely) member of the vory v zakone (thiefs in law) which is a prison gang spawned from the Soviet gulag system that later split into the Bratva (what's normally refered to as the russian mafia)

The cathedral or sometimes kremlins indicate the amount of prison sentences. the one Alexei got on his chest got three towers meaning three different prison sentences. (not really a hard feat considering it was USSR times)

The double headded eagle is a symbol used in Russia since tsarist times and during the soviet union it was replaced with the hammer and sickle. The eagle is during soviet times used to show mockery or rage against the USSR (tbh a lot of the tattoos are fuck the state especially when vory v zakone related since they do not work with the state what so ever, even being civil with prison guards is punishable)

The "bracelet" around Alexei's wrist is normally are used to show the amount of years in prison, normally start with 5 years then just ad onto it for every year. The thicker it is the more years in prison, Alexei i would guess is about 10 years.

Flowers/Roses mean two things either that you'll have flowers on your funeral even if you die in a damn ditch or that the person got convicted for the first time before the age of 18. In this case i suspect it just looked good with the banderol spelling "Natalia" and "Yelena"

The eyes normally is a type of "i'm watching you" meaning watching other inmates.

In other words you have a career criminal in Russian organized crime, even with just three prison stays (the chest indicate this) it's hard to end up looking like this..... Keeping in mind he's ex KGB on top of that meaning he would never have survived in that system realistically. Police, KGB and similar would have been practically marked for death. He's already a part of the goverment and that's not gonna fly here or anywhere inside the "vorovskiy mir" (theifs world) where the Vory is in controll. The vory is insanely picky with not having anything to do with the goverment and it even go for close ones to members. People who fail to do this? They're killed for betraying their brothers. In other words: The one who picked out the tattoos picked what looked cool and went YOLO because that's how nonsensical it is that a ex-KGB and propaganda tool for the state would get these tattoos. If you can't account for your tattoos, they are taken off.

its kinda hard to find anything for s1 bc its the establishing season so theres not a lot that needs changing tbh.

i think there was one plot inconsistency but i cant remember rn. ill update if i can.

honestly i would have loved for Five to have been there when the basement shit was going down. like idk if i want him to do anything but like here is the person who traps him in the apocalypse (for selfish reasons too) & yet they are the sibling you trusted the most, who gave you the most comfort throughout ur childhood & whose book helped to orient you when you were hurting & lost. like thats an insane situation that i would have loved to see play out.

also related to the basement - i would have loved to see Viktor have a memory related to Five while trashing the house. like i dont care if it was positive or negative, or just his absence. i want to know where Five stood with Viktor in that moment.

Bens room. i want to see bens room sooo bad. & all the grief attached to it.

S2 (pretty much everything @/number5theboy has said, tho i only noticed half of these problems when they posted abt them so)

Hazel deserved a better conclusion & overall effect on the story. following him as a strong supporting character for an entire season & then killing him to tie up loose ends just doesn't cut it. + by killing Agnes & Hazel, having the main cast forget him after 2 brief mentions regarding plot details, then reviving The Handler pretty much counteracted every one of Hazel's accomplishments & made his character ultimately pointless.

(already said this, & ik u saw it but yeah, just replace Elliott with Hazel &/or Agnes & we'd be golden)

Despite being the MVP of S2 Five doesn't accomplish much. he's barely involved in the actual stopping of the apocalypse. in the nuclear apocalypse timeline we know that the Hargreeves all meet & team up & band together against the apocalypse without him. Diego is the one who finds out who causes the apocalypse & Ben is the one who prevents it.

Paradox Psychosis sure is something. im not a fan of toilet humour. there is something to the whole "you will go insane & try to kill your doppelganger bc the universe can only cope with one of you" plotline but toilet humour misses the mark.

also ditto to @/babblingbear09 bc literally just wait 5 minutes to pick the briefcase up off the ground & boom Kennedy's dead u can leave for 2019 & the timeline is saved.

REGINALDS PLAN. HOLY FUCK DID THEY MESS HIM UP. S1 Reg wants to stop the 2019 apocalypse (unclear if he knows its Viktor) & is willing to kill himself to accomplish that. S2 Reginald could not give less of a shit about the apocalypse & more or less encourages Five to let it happen.

(ik ur asking abt s2 but compare this to s3 where Reg very much wants to be alive & with his resurrected wife. also how his plan shifted from "stop the apocalypse" to "get into oblivion & hit restart on the universe"??)

Allison's reaction to seeing Viktor again after he SLIT HER THROAT is handwaved & never spoken abt again.

Allison & Klaus contributed nothing to the plot at all.

the ISB is a plot breaker. they couldve used it to pinpoint where & when Five went in S1 & got him instantly. like the commish is supposed to be both terrifyingly powerful & also laughably inefficient. this just makes them stupid.

everyone forgets that Patch ever existed. like where is her rabbits foot Diego??

the himbofication of Diego & Luther. Diego is an angry little guy & 60s electric shocks & group therapies can only do so much. Luther is more than stupid plans & loving his sister. They're both incredibly sensitive & they react to that thru shielding themselves with anger and self importance.

FIVE IS SO HORRIBLY INJURED BY THE END OF THIS. like the tracker cut on his arm, the stitches on his shoulder, the shrapnel wound, scratches on his neck (chimps are violent little bastards), getting beaten half to death by the Swede, punched & kicked multiple times, a chimney falls on him, yet another fight with Lila & a skillet to the head. Diego too actually.

Aiyla: aiyla has always wanted to be a mother and she fears that dream may never come true whatever the reason normal ones i’d say the dark and thunder and lighting. she also has a fear of driving

we haven’t met him yet but sweet little anger boi feliks: he has a fear of losing his family and them leaving him forever. normal ones would be crowed places, heights, and probably has claustrophobia as well

5. okay i’m going with matteo this time. i’m going to say best memory was holding his son for the first time and officially becoming a father, worst memory is hard because there’s a lot but probably when his divorce was finalized and he was only allowed visitation rights for his son

6. aiyla’s lying ability depends on who she’s lying to. if she truly loves and cares for the person than she’s shit at lying but if she doesn’t really care about the person she’s amazing at it

7. matteo doesn’t get jealous easily, he’s found that if the person he’s with really loves and cares for him, he has no need to worry

8. matteo hates when people chew with their mouth open!! he sees red everytime

9. okay so he has way too much to list them all but matteo has two mcr tattoo’s one referencing his father and one referencing his mother he got them both on the 1 year anniversary after his mother’s passing, though his brother gives him shit for them he truly cherishes them and both are in the top 5 of his tattoos

10. aiyla’s first kiss was with her now husband, it was on the football field and he had one his first game. she was so proud of him she went in for a big ol’ smooch. she fell in love with kissing right then and there.

1. Okay my all time favorite color is like a teal blue-green? Like if you look up “blue green crayola crayon” that’s my favorite 😂 But second and third favs would have to be probably lavender and mint green maybe? Black also tbh

2. I am literally obsessed with the sky at any time of day, but I prefer evening / nights. I love cotton candy sunsets and starry nights ✨

3. When I was little I think it went in order from giraffe to elephants to wolves to cows to sharks to orcas….I still love all of them now but I’d say cats, orcas and sharks are my top 3. I have tattoos of an orca and a cat, I’m gonna get one of a shark too! (*an extra bit of mushie lore: I have a half sleeve on my left forearm that’s just all animals so rn I have the cat and orca, a moth, and a snake! My next one is gonna be the shark for sure)

4. OOF music related questions. More ~mushie lore~, I was a music nerd. I was in band, choir, advanced choir, music theory, marching band, theatre…..etc. I also was a music major in college 😬 So you can imagine how often I’m surrounded by music. I listen to it every single day, I don’t know how people go without it. I’d say right now, I’m currently just listening to Sabrina Carpenters new album “emails I can’t send” on repeat. But from THAT album, I’d say “because I liked a boy” OR “how many things” are the two I listen to the most! All time fav song…..that is genuinely so hard to pick but maybe “I love you” by Billie Eilish bc it always hurts me in the best way

5. I do be singing literally daily 😂 I used to get leads in musicals and stuff but I also don’t think I’m very good. BUT that being said I’ve had multiple people try and make me audition for shows like the x factor lmfao so do whatever you’d like with that information

6. So at the moment I’m not really sure there’s anything I like about my art. I’m kind of in a funk where I think everything I do just isn’t really that good. Which is dumb and not true! Because I know that I’ve been proud of things I’ve made. But yeah…I’m not sure. How I got into art was actually through my dad. He would always have canvases at his house and he would always encourage me to create stuff. So when I was younger and throughout like grade school I was really good, I was in advanced art classes and groups and in art shows and all that. But I kind of got out of it for a bit and just started up again in 2020. And I’m definitely more of a painter now, although I have been mainly drawing to try and get skill back

7. best season hands down is autumn. My favorite weather is stormy and cloudy, a little chilly so I can just wear a big sweater or hoodie and feel nice and cozy

8. Oop, I kind of answered the thunderstorm question. As for snow…..not really. I think it’s beautiful to look at and I love when it’s cold outside, but I don’t like being outside in it or driving in it

9. I have HELLA plants. Except they’re all fake 😎 I have probably around 20-30 in my room, I have an issue

least favorite thing to draw

LOL there are so many things I don't like to draw... backgrounds... cars... guns... the list goes on and on... (not quite related but. perhaps you've noticed that despite my voluminous contributions to birdmen fanart in recent times I've casually dodged out of drawing the birds transformed time and time again. there's a reason for that. it's too hard. the markings drive me insane and the wings make creating compositions hell on earth </3)

But! If I had to pick ONE thing that I dislike more than all others, I would probably choose complex cityscapes! More organic landscapes I can just freehand, at least to a certain degree, but cityscapes require a more refined use of perspective and idk. me and the CSP rulers kind of have a long-standing rivalry, I still don't like it that much, which makes cityscapes a huge pain

how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished

LOL... if I have more than one sketch before I do the linework I'm already like "that's way too much". I'm super impatient...

Like for Breaking Stasis I basically used my storyboards as the rough sketch (don't do this lol) because I needed to go fast. Here's a couple of examples...

I went from this kinda messy sketch (storyboards as well in a certain sense) directly to the clean lines. idk what's wrong with me tbh. I'm just lazy I guess

It also depends on how well I can draw the character in question. Like my birds?? from birdmen??? I could probably draw rei eishi takayama and umino pretty well freehanded (kamoda. my bald son kamoda. you're so hard to draw. the line between A bald guy and MY bald guy is razor thin and I often end up on the wrong side of the line)

If I've never drawn the character before? Lollll I probably have to do more detailed drawings...

This one is the one I had the most sketches for in recent memory. It's cause I have a hard time keeping them all in scale with each other (and STILL I failed to take into account how the various platform boots would change their heights. dont think about this too hard please don't think about this too hard), and also because these aren't outfits I'm used to drawing (so not collared shirts or suits, basically...) I had to do a rough and a clean before the final

so yeah anywhere from 0-2, 3 if we're REALLY pushing it (the question asked how many sketches, not how many layers... I do have more layers but I consider them all part of the same sketch)

how long do you usually take on a piece

LMAO THIS IS SUCH A HARD QUESTION. WHAT IS "A PIECE". DEFINE A PIECE.

The fastest stuff are my MS Paint doodles like he is eating raw cloves of garlic like jellybeans or food service Shichiro. I spend no more than 10 or 15 minutes TOPS per illustration on these. like I'm moving fast okay. it's like milk left out in the kitchen it's gonna go bad and stop being funny if I spend too long on it!!!

The next fastest would be short comics in the same spirit as the MS Paint doodles except it's just. not in MS paint it's in CSP instead. like does eishi support birdmen rights or takaeishi horror movie night. I think the cap for these are probably closer to like, 20 minutes per illustration/panel. but these are also almost explicitly always for funnies and again. the joke spoils if I spend too long on it!! gotta be quick!! gotta be speedy!!!

the next fastest stuff is probably colored sketches like Kekkaishi dress sketches or Shinichi birthday kisses. the time starts to get more variable as the complexity changes.. I think maybe an hour to an hour and a half for these?

Beyond that I have to split things up into multiple sittings and it gets harder to time them. Lined and colored artwork maybe takes... four to ten hours on average?? Like for Yoshitoki vibes, ganbare shinichi-kun, and the Lower One's Eyes thumbnail. I'm guessing around 15-20 hours for lineless paintings like Conductor Robin and Reieishi Tattoo Kiss? (<- idk the ship name for them because I don't think it exists actually)

For actual like. big projects. idk how to even measure that chief!! Breaking Stasis was completed in 2 months but I was working my ass off that entire time. like close to the end, like the last week or two I was basically drawing the entire day to crank it out. I don't know how many that is, but hundreds, perhaps? LOL

The music videos too, they're taking up QUITE a chunk of time but I have no idea how to measure that LMAO. oops </3

Okay okay okay okay OKAAAAYYYYY....   Fine... I will share with you all what I noticed in that interview since I’ve received so many asks about it in the past. 

I didn’t even think it was that big of a deal tbh. 🤷🏾‍♀️   That’s why I didn’t post it lol. 

Anyway..... 

As you all probably already know by now, I tend to study/pick up on subtle body language cues. Well, when I was watching the MTV interview with Tom, I picked up on a few things that were just small/minor things, but pretty telling imo.  👀

**Caution: If I sound crazy, then please just ignore this entire post and my babbling lol....🙈

So anyway....the FIRST thing I noticed is that when Josh asked Tom about Zendaya, Tom swallowed....hard..... 😳 (Min 6:47) I noticed it immediately and thought it was a little interesting, so then I went back to look at how he reacted in the same interview when he was asked other questions, and whether that's just something that he just does most of the time....

But when Josh asks Tom OTHER questions (non-Zendaya-related), Tom didn't swallow! 👀  

For example: 

Min 2:36

Min 4:20 - 4:50 

Min 5:39

Min 8:39, etc

THEN... at Min 7:49 Josh jokes that maybe Tom is “just trying to butter Z up” so that she will give him a role in Euphoria lol... 

And Tom says: "I Keep saying that to her, like when are you gonna let ME be in Euphoria...?" THEN he says: "I wanna..." then quickly switches it up to say: "JACOB and I want to be in there.... I just want one scene". 

Tbh, I sometimes wonder if he/they use "Jacob" as a buffer to hide their REAL "friendship" lol? 🤔 Cuz otherwise, why would he have to switch up saying “I”, to "Jacob and I???"  What’s wrong with saying “I”??  You two are just friends right??  😏

I've also noticed in the past that sometimes (not all the time) when Tom is asked about Z (or just questions that may make him nervous in general), he takes a sip of water.  👀  I noticed it in Bali in particular when he was on a panel and an interviewer asked him about Zendaya, and he took a sip of water lol.  😂   Let me tell you..... He hadn't taken a sip of water during the entire interview prior, but as soon as the interviewer asked him about her, he immediately took a sip of water afterwards....maybe it was after he gave his answer I think.   I'll have to go back to the interview to double check to make sure.  But I just always found that interesting lol.  😂  He’s pretty thirsty just in general overall lol, but it was just the fact that he had not taken a sip of water at all until THAT question came up  that stood out to me lol.  

So there you go... See?? It wasn’t really that big of a deal. 🤪 It’s just little things that I pick up on with body language.  😅 And Tom def has a tell lol.  😏  

So maybe next time you all will believe me when I say that it’s “really not that big of a deal”.  😂

She-Ra S5 E07 - Perils of Peekablue

There might be spoilers for the rest of the season in this post!

I’ll start by saying upfront that I pretty much consider this to be the weakest episode of season 5 (or at least one of the weaker ones), even though it does move the plot along significantly. The main reason is that, as I said before, I don’t care about the group on Etheria as much as the group in space (with the exception of Scorpia and possibly Spinnetossa), so an episode like this - even though I get why it’s important - just won’t interest me as much as what the gang in space is up to.

That said, it’s not a *bad* episode or anything. Let’s get into it:

- The entire beginning scene where Adora tries to transform into She-Ra and the others keep interrupting her is absolute gold and I love everything about it. Especially Catra, OMG! The way she shows up and actually asks “Are we messing with Adora?” - She’s not even pretending to be helpful and I love that she’s bonding with Glimmer and Bow over “messing with Adora”. And how she then just flings herself onto Adora’s lap and brushes Adora’s face with her tail while cheekily saying “Yeah Adora, concentrate!” - brilliant, absolutely brilliant 🤣. And I also love how Adora doesn’t even try to push her off and actually holds her. These two are too cute.

- I also wonder if the “You can’t let distractions keep you from transforming” line was intentional foreshadowing for Shadow Weaver telling Adora that Catra’s a distraction.

- I like Catra’s new outfit! Well, it’s pretty much just her old outfit with a few adjustments. But still, nice! And she looks really cute with short hair.

- I feel like this beginning scene is pretty much here for two reasons: It sets up that Entrapta is trying to reach the rebellion on Etheria, which will be relevant at the very end of the episode, AND it shows Catra’s new outfit, so we can have a new opening now.

- Changes in the opening: Time for some really exciting mid-season opening changes! Catra’s missing from the villains’ card for the first time ever. Instead, Horde Prime’s hands are now closing around a glowing orb (I assume that’s meant to be the heart of Etheria). At the part where Catra and She-Ra fight, Catra now has short hair, She-Ra is in her new form, and instead of a snarl the fight ends with a soft smile between them (I’m not crying, you’re crying. Best opening glow-up ever! 😭). In the final heroes’ shot, Adora back to being She-Ra instead of Adora, but this time in her new form. And Catra is *finally* in the heroes’ shot as well. GOOD STUFF. (In general, I just LOVE that they actually kept updating the opening in the middle of the season. That is SO cool. But the change that really gets me is how they updated Catra and Adora’s fight, because that’s been the same since the beginning of the show and now it’s SO SWEET.)

- Okay, so my biggest problem with this episode is that the plan to find Prince Peekablue seems... kinda dumb? So they’re planning to sneak into an underwater soiree undercover and abandon everyone else at the camp to find a “hermit” no one has seen in ages because he might know where Adora and the others are? As a plan it just seems far-fetched. I get that they want to warn Adora and company that Prime is chipping people (they don’t know that Adora’s group already knows that), but how would finding Peekablue even help them achieve that? He could tell them where Adora and the others are, but... that’s it. It’s not like he can also magically communicate with Adora or anyone else. And didn’t Swift Wind tell the others last episode that Adora’s coming home and that he can feel her coming closer? So shouldn’t they already know that the group in space are on their way home? (Granted, Swift Wind told that to Micah, Frosta, Spinnerella and Netossa - but I’m assuming the rebels communicate with each other and Micah would have also told Mermista and the others?) I mean, idk how much time supposedly passed between these two episodes, so maybe it’s been a while since Elberon? Also, when did they even figure out that Horde Prime is chipping people? Last episode, Micah still said they had to “figure out what that was”. And if they know about the chips now, it might have been a good idea to check the necks of everyone at camp right away - though to be fair, they maybe didn’t realize how the chips work yet. And yeah, I am nitpicking here (and obviously the rebels have to mess up so things can go south this episode, so I guess they have to make some bad decisions.)

- That said, I love all of their outfits! And I like that Scorpia’s alias “Lynda D’Ream” is a reference to the 80s cartoon.

- Netossa’s lucky that she wears an outfit with such a high collar - makes it hard to put a chip on her neck. (Also, idk if I’ve said this before, but I love Spinnerella and Netossa’s character designs and outfits. They’re both fashion queens.)

- Just the fact that it really is Spinnetossa’s anniversary and Netossa thinks that’s why Spinnerella is acting strange - I mean, what are the odds?

- “They are my people! Which means that most of them have sworn revenge against me at some point.” Okay, that is pretty funny. And getting to meet all of Sea-Hawk’s exes was pretty funny, too. (Yeah, officially they’re not his exes but just people whose ships he set on fire... but come on, the subtext isn’t really subtle here.) And I love the whole running gag of him and Mermista fighting all of them behind the bar counter with Mermista doing most of the work and getting more and more annoyed with it - but when they’re finally done, it turns out there’s also someone there that *she* doesn’t want to see, because she set their ship on fire. Comedy gold.

- Scorpia is me at a party :( I also find it super hard to socialize and get into conversations with strangers. Very relatable there.

- I also love how the sweet flowergirl Perfuma has absolutely no problem blending in with a bunch of criminals.

- “You’re amazing. You have the biggest heart and you could do whatever you put your mind to.” Aww. I’m glad someone told Scorpia that!

- “You should do things not because you’re good at them, but because they make you happy.” That actually is some really good life advice. People should keep that mind in general.

- (I love how Sea-Hawk and Mermista are carrying Admiral Scurvy away in the background while Scorpia and Perfuma are having their heartfelt talk 🤣.)

- “Repeat after me: I can do this. I can do this.” “Perfuma can do this.” 🤦 I feel bad for laughing, but... gosh, Scorpia has some serious self-esteem issues.

- Okay, time for an unpopular opinion: I’m... not that into Scorfuma. There’s nothing wrong with it and I’m not against it or anything, but it just doesn’t particularly grab my interest. That excited feeling you get when you ship something just... isn’t there for me with them, sorry.

(I kinda felt like I had to explain/justify myself, so I started to write a small essay on my ships here that doesn’t really have anything to do with the episode. Feel free to just skip this part.)

I consider myself a multishipper and while my #1 OTP is definitely without a doubt Catradora, I also really have a soft spot for Scorptra (to the point where I’d say it’s probably my #2 after Catradora). And, to make it short, Scorptra vs. Scorfuma is one of those “fanon vs. canon” things for me, where what you want to see happen in canon isn’t necessarily what you find exciting or interesting to explore in fanworks. Obviously Scorptra was never going to be canon because Catradora is a thing, and I’m perfectly okay with that. And in canon, Scorpia getting out of a toxic friendship, moving on from her unrequited feelings, and finding love with someone else (who treats her right) is the right message to send, so I’m glad that’s where the show went. But when it comes to enjoying a ship in fanon (which is what I consider “shipping” to be), then I don’t pick my ships based on how healthy they are in canon, but on how much their dynamic fascinates me and just on whether that certain spark that makes me like a ship is there or not. And in that sense, Scorpia’s dynamic with Catra, which was explored over the course of 4 seasons, is just infinitely more fascinating and spark-inducing to me that her relationship with Perfuma.

And even beyond Scorptra - if I had to ship Scorpia with someone other than Catra, my first pick would be Entrapta. (Yes, I do ship Entrapdak, but like I said - multishipper here. Also, Entrapta has two hands!) And my first pick for who to ship Perfuma with would be Mermista because I like their bickering and I have a thing for opposites attracting.

Anyway, I’ve been rambling about ships for too long now. The bottom line is: I’m fine with Scorfuma being canon and it makes sense that they fit together since they’re very similar people. I don’t dislike it, I’m just not as hyped about it as many people seem to be. On with the episode now, please!

- “I guess I don’t know what a hermit is after all.” Yeah, Peekablue was giving off Double Trouble vibes from the beginning, tbh.

- I love how Netossa is competitive even at planning anniversary surprises.

- Perfuma loudly supporting Scorpia when she ends up on stage is a super nice moment, though. And Scorpia’s performance? Amazing!

- I wonder if Double Trouble made up that whole “She-Ra in space” vision because they were pretending to be Peekablue and just got it right by accident, or if they actually knew that much from their time pretending to be a clone. I wonder how much time they spent as a clone and what exactly they saw.

- Scorpia realizing it’s Double Trouble and then tricking and unmasking them was an amazing moment. So much for Scorpia not being smart!

- I was so excited to see Double Trouble again! Tough it makes me a bit said that they refered to Catra as their “cash kitten”. While they never made a secret out of being in it for the money, I kind of like the idea that they did care for Catra after all. (Do I just ship everyone with Catra? The answer is yes.)

DT: “I know where your friends are. And I’ll tell you - for a price, of course.”

Perfuma: *grows flower arm canon*

DT: “... Fine.”

😂😂😂 Love that.

- “It makes for a very dull audience when everyone’s mind-controlled.” Okay, but that really is a good reason for Double Trouble to help the heroes out without really changing their motivation. They’re still a Chaotic Neutral who doesn’t particularly care about morals - but it would make for a very dull audience if everyone was mind-controlled.

- “Prime is angry. She-Ra showed up and stole his little kitten away.” Like I said before, I LOVE that that’s the reason why Prime’s so pissed in the first place.

- The confrontation between Netossa and Spinnerella is so heartbreaking, but when she said “show me your neck” it again made me wonder why they didn’t check everyone’s neck at camp before.

- “What a shame we can’t be together... in Horde Prime’s light!” Ooohhh, it’s so creepy and angsty, I love it!

- And Mermista’s chipped as well because obviously things have to go south here.

- The parallel confrontations at camp and at the soiree are really cool scenes. I especially like the Spinnerella vs. Netossa fight. And Micah’s chipped as well, because things have to go wrong and Glimmer mentioned being “a day away from meeting her dad” - so obviously that has to be ruined now, too.

- “A little help? I need to lift my hand to the heavens.” Gosh, I love DT.

- Scorpia’s sacrifice made me tear up 😭. (When I first watched it, I was scared she was actually going to die and not just get chipped - I’d never have forgiven the show for that.)

- Can we talk about how strong Netossa actually is? She fought off both Spinnerella and Micah by herself, made a big enough net to cover all the chipped people, and got herself and Frosta out of there safely - I don’t want to hear anything about her powers not being strong again.

- “Happy anniversary.” Noooo, now I’m crying again... 😭😭😭 It’s so sad, but so romantic... (I really love that this season gave Spinnerella and Netossa more screentime. And I’m always here for some angst!)

- And finally, Perfuma is able to contact the group in space and warn them about the blockade. I really like that scene. I like that Perfuma specifically says “You need to stay away”, since we know what happened last time someone told Adora that. And the whole grim mood of Perfuma apologizing and saying the rebellion is compromised, the shaky pictures, the connection cutting off, and then the shot of the ship all alone in space and the silence - amazing. Basically, this episode was “things go very wrong on Etheria, and now the group in space has a serious problem”.

This was a good episode, overall. Like I said, the main reason I consider it weaker is because I care more about the group in space, and they were only here for one scene in the beginning and one in the end. But this was still pretty solid. It had some funny and sweet moments, and then some really cool and dramatic scenes in the end. And of course, it was a very important episode for the plot because things are now really not looking good on Etheria. My favourite moment was Catra sitting on Adora’s lap in the opening scene, though.

How did they first meet?

here is my personal hc. tim told cass about a girl. he didn’t tell her anything about the girl, just that she was woefully unprepared to be a crimefighter... but also she was kinda cute, in a totally naive way (90s tim was kind of an asshole, never forget). cass couldn’t quite understand what he was saying while he showed her the batfile on her---the picture of the spoiler, etc. but she got his general tone and body language. cass then sought steph out. for nights. nights looking for the spoiler. when she found her---she tackled her, immediately engaged her in a fight. she went so, so easy on her. she just wanted to see what a cute girl was. and steph... was definitely a cute girl. at the time, cass couldn’t talk, couldn’t communicate with her. but she left her a gift. a nice knife that she had throw at her head---deliberately missing it, that was... especially ornate, and seemed shiny and valuable, and most of all purple to match her costume. pretty purple girls like pretty purple things, right?

What was their first impression of each other?

that is a rather complicated question since it's so open... hm, lets go about what i like about their character

bazz, his passion, i love that fire he has in his heart, so bright you can see it shine in his eyes, in everything he does.. passionate people are the ones i love to hear the most about, their engagement and enthusiasm always inspires me even if i dont relate, you can tell im a person of love haha, its my most important value and he has no shame in showing that, he always smiles and have that confidence, and still feel like a relatable character, down to earth, and i really love that

jugram is a little harder to love given his... cold persona (no being hot wont count here) but there is something that makes me fall for him and its his unconditional love... he isnt really open about the concept of love, and he very much has his own interpretation of it, where he keeps hiding what it truly holds even to himself... while i dont like how he denies it, he never killed it, he never killed that flame in his heart even if it means it would hurt him in the future... his love for bazz is just beautiful to me, to love someone for all the goods and bad, from the past to the future, to love even if the ideas dont collide with yours... he cant let go bc he genuinely feels love, and im glad he kept it and accepted it despite it all

I'm happy you liked the reading!! 😊 Regarding your question, I'm going to compare it with free personal readings. Comparison below is only applicable for free online readings: 

1) Energy and time

🧡 General pick-a-card: Doing a PAC reading is more exhausting than a personal reading. PAC reading requires you to tune into more energies and consider more situations; which can be confusing. You also need to do at least 2 piles. But if there are too few to choose from, the risk is that there might not be much variation, which can make it hard for many people to relate to the reading. Imo, 3-4 piles in one reading are ideal in balancing your needs with your audience's needs. It might still be exhausting if we are not used to it.

💜 Personal reading: Logically, it’s less exhausting than PAC unless you are dealing with heavy energy coming from one person. This can be done quicker than PAC reading, your intuition can just go with the strongest interpretation instead of weighing whether or not you should include different scenarios- simply because there is only one querent to focus on. The querent can (should tbh) give you a more specific context behind their question which will help you narrow down the interpretation, thus conserving your energy.

2) Accuracy

🧡 General pick-a-card: General readings are bound to be less accurate than personal readings, and the message might be harder to nail down because many interpretations are possible since we are talking about many different people/situations. So you might not know when you do something right and when you do something wrong; because different people might find different parts not/resonating. So who’s right/wrong? There's no way to know.

💜 Personal reading: You can be more sure when you do something right AND when you do something wrong, because you are dealing with one person/situation and you can give much more weight to the querent’s words when they correct you. Certainty allows you to fix or fine-tune your method based on the feedback you get. It leads to practical actions, which lead to better result and improvement.

3) Accountability

🧡 General pick-a-card: It's easier to hide behind general readings, readers can simply claim their mistakes or inaccuracy as "it's a general reading it's not meant to completely fit you" AND just leave it at that. Which doesn’t really help the reader if their goal is to improve their tarot reading skills.

Personally, I do acknowledge that general reading won’t be able to fit someone to a T (I mean, sometimes it can but don’t bet on it). But at the same time as someone who does PAC reading- I want mine to resonate with many people. So I do try to figure out what went wrong or how I could interpret something better- whenever I get negative feedback. But this is just my personal goal, and I am balancing it with the possibility that something might not be my mistake at all (eg. it could be due to the querent’s misunderstanding, their refusal to accept truth, the fact that it’s a general reading, etc). 

I won’t immediately take it as my mistake, but I won’t immediately reject the possibility either.

💜 Personal reading: It's harder to hide behind personal readings. If you are not accurate, you are not accurate. There's no running away from it. You have to look at the issue, and think critically whether the 'inaccuracy' is coming from your querent (their biases, their refusal to accept truth, their lack of self-awareness, etc) or if it's because of your shortcomings (eg. exhaustion, lack of concentration, being superficial with interpretations, ignoring intuitive pulls, etc). Even if it’s coming from your querent, you can still try to figure out how you can handle similar situation better in the future.

4) Emotional reward

🧡 General pick-a-card: Doing PAC reading is more emotionally rewarding than free personal reading, simply because it targets more audience hence increasing your chances of getting feedback; more interaction, more often. It also gets you exposure. It's just a matter of probability. More people = more likely. 

PAC is a better investment of time and energy if your goal is to gain exposure (it’s not easy, but it’s better than personal reading). It doesn’t hurt that you can still get feedback from people.

💜 Personal reading: When you do free personal reading, you are depending on one person to give you feedback, which they might not give, and other people might not care about the personal reading since it’s not for them thus they might not respond to it. This can be demotivating, it’s like talking to the void. But when the querent does come back and give you detailed feedback, it’s like receiving gold. It’s very emotionally rewarding because it gives you a clearer view of your skills, especially when you are told what you did right (because of the certainty I mentioned before). 

Personal reading is a better investment if your goal is to hone your skills more, but like I said this is highly dependent on whether or not you get feedback. It’s hard to improve when you don’t get any feedback at all.

Conclusion:

Any tarot readings can help improve intuition, whether it’s general or personal, because what matters most in improving intuition and skills are practice and feedback; if you can get more practice and feedback from personal reading, then personal reading may be better for you. Vice versa. 

If you choose to do PAC readings; 

At first it might be hard to get interaction or feedback, unless you have a decent following already. Just stick to it, hopefully you’ll gain traction over time.

You can also approach other tarot readers to see if they are willing to give you some feedback on your general readings, but accept it if they don’t want to; people have reasons why they do/don’t do something. 

It's better to have more piles and shorter messages, than fewer piles but longer messages (if you can’t do many piles with long messages). Give people more to choose, like I said 3-4 piles. But this is just my opinion, you can do a survey and see what people prefer.

Hi! Oh damn I hope you’re ready for a long ass answer because I have 13 years worth of memories to answer this question dfghjklm

So, your first question, when you say creators, you have to keep in mind that the original showrunner stepped down years ago and since then, there’s been several showrunners who each had a different view on where they wanted to take the story, which explains the disparities in writing quality from one season to another, in my opinion. Of course the orginal showrunner is still around and would chime in from time to time but he went on on working on other shows (which flopped, besides The Boys, tbh), and we definitely didn’t see it that way in 2005.

Then comes the writers team, that has also seen many changes over the years. I truly believe some left because they wouldn’t make Destiel happen, among other things like the treatment/lack of representation of female and POC characters. Robbie Thompson definitely left because they killed Charlie in the most horrifying way, and Charlie was his baby, and he got better opportunities elsewhere. I remember over 7 years ago when Bo Berens (the writer of last night episode) joined the team, my whole dash was full of people screaming because holy shit the new SPN writer is gay!!! and wouldn’t that change things??? Well it did. He wrote, along with Robbie Thompson, some of the most explicit Destiel episodes that they could get away with. I don’t believe this was ever queerbaiting, not from them, and I think they took advatange of the other writers just not seeing it, or not wanting to see it.

For a very long time, the showrunners and writers were kind of oblivious to the shipping, they didn’t take it seriously because it wasn’t how they had thought it could be interpreted. As time went on and the shipping only grew and as the cast and crew actually started to see what we were seeing in their own damn writing and acting, they started to be more aware and careful around it. Some were downward enjoying putting down fans, like fucking Guy Norman Bee gloating on Twitter and engaging with fans over it. A mess. He left 5 years ago that one, good riddance. It was also the time when actual canon queer ships would appear on TV - keep in mind that in 2010-12, Destiel was as explicit as it could get. We had nothing else, so of course we would latch onto that. But we started getting more and more actual explicit representation with Shameless, Shadowhunters, Eyewitness, Skam, HTGAWM, Orphan Black, etc around 2013, and shipping Destiel got very frustrating. 

The actors have always been another story, and I saw a lot of comments being made today towards Jensen so I’m gonna copy paste my answer to an ask I got last year : “I think he was just extremely “protective” of Dean and would get actually mad and shut down every conversation about Destiel because that’s not how he sees his character. Like, proper pissed off. He would get uncomfortable about pride flags during photo ops. It came to the point where people would walk on eggshells at cons. 2012-13 was hard on the fandom on this point. He would never speak up about lgbtq related topics in politics either. Liking a tweet like Chris’s 10 or even 5 years ago? Never. He used to say that people in highschool would bully him for “looking too gay” because of his pouty lips and big eyes. I think he didn’t want to care about it but bullying leaves scars. Getting married to Danneel, meeting Misha, who are both very outspoken about lgbtq matters, opened him up, and he’s said himself that having his first daughter changed him deeply. He had a whole new perspective on unconditional love. Now, he’s enthusiastic about posing with pride flags, to sign fanart, he’s always so supportive of lgbtq fans at cons, hugs them, gives them words of encouragement, etc. Years ago he said “my father told me that there’s no manly way to drink out of a straw” and now he’s out there being crowned King at the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, posting rainbows on his social media, having makeup sessions wit his daughter, etc. He was very outspoken about his support for Beto in Texas last year, he goes to rallies, posts about it on social media, etc. And yeah maybe that’s the bare minimum but he wouldn’t have done it years ago but now he does and that’s worth something. He’s not a Destiel supporter but now the topic isn’t banned at cons anymore. He jokes about it, he understands better where people who see Dean as bi are coming from, even if it’s not his take on the character. He’s much more comfortable with himself and has come a long way. I’m happy for him.” That was my reply last year to somebody asking if Jensen was homophobic and while I obviously don’t know him, it’s what I gathered over the past 17 years or so. I was already a fan of him beofre Supernatural soooo, I’ve been around a while. Yes there was this moment, over 7 years ago at a con, where he let fans boo other fans for asking a question about Destiel, and he shut down the question, then the questions about Destiel were banned. That’s not the case anymore and it hasn’t been that way for years. Misha on the other hand as always been supportive of the ship, his “You’re not crazy” tweet from 2013 fueled us for years, and the fact that he went back to like it and bring attention to it today is the biggest I Told You So he could have given us.

About your question, making decision to keep them away from each other, yes, that has been a pattern for years, something would go in the script, and then they would change their minds - “the only thing we have left, Dean and I, is each other” in 5x04, the “A part of me always believed you would come back” in 7x17, the “I love you” in 8x17, Castiel’s heaven being just pictures of Dean everywhere, etc. The decision would come from either the actors or the writers and they gave tons of reasons but I won’t get into that. And every time we would have a Destiel heavy episode, it would be no Cas for weeks. Their reason for that is that if Cas was always around, what with how powerful he is, then there would be no plot for monster-of-the-week episodes, because he’d be able to fix the situation with a snap of his fingers. So they gave him storylines that would weaken him and/or keep him away from the Winchesters. But I also think they would give us crumbs to keep us hooked and then backtrack because it wasn’t the end yet.

Destiel is the only ship I’ve really invested in that wasn’t canon. Yet. Because, to me, it’s been canon for years. And I am absolutely convinced that had Supernatural ended with season 10 as planned, it would have been canon then. There were tropes and parallels that nobody could ignore. The whole of season 10, with the Cain/Dean and Colette/Castiel thing was so obvious even my Dad picked up on it. But the series got renewed again and again and they pushed it back, because The Powers That Be at the CW didn’t want to lose their homophobic fanbase, I guess. Isn’t that great :)))) Now that it’s ending for real, who cares? They don’t have anything to lose anymore. It must be quite an unpopular opinion but I think making Deancas canon at the end of the series has been the plan for a while, but it got pushed back with every renewal. 

To me they have been canon since season 8 thanks to a few selected writers, and as infuriating and sometimes hurtful as it was to keep watching for all these years when it could have been so much better, I’m still ecstatic they finally did it. Maybe for the wrong reasons, definitely not in the right way, but 1. the show isn’t over, and 2. this was my first real big ship when I had nothing else, and to be able, after over a decade, to hear that I love you, with no room for doubt that it was meant romantically, is making me happy.,
