Para el SB XLVII (3 de febrero de 2013): entre Baltimore Ravens y San Francisco 49ers se armó una gran espectativa por ser el duelo de dos legendarios entrenadores que además son hermanos:  John Harbaugh de Baltimore y San Jim Harbaugh de Francisco.

Por lo que los apodos no se dejaron esperar,  El “Bro Bowl”, el “Harbaugh Bowl”, el “HarBowl” y el “Super Baugh”.

Pero es en la cancha donde se ganan los partidos.

Al principio, parecía que Baltimore se iba a quedar con el campeonato. Los Ravens tomaron una ventaja dominante de 21-6 para el entretiempo y rápidamente ampliaron esa ventaja en el inicio del tercer cuarto gracias al kickoff respuesta de 108 yardas de Jacoby Jones.

Luego, las luces dentro del Superdomo se apagaron inexplicablemente causando una interrupción del juego de 34 minutos. Una vez que se reanudó el juego, San Francisco se robó todo el impulso y orquestó una remontada notable que resultó en uno de los finales más emocionantes en la historia del Super Bowl.

Superbowl - a sport és a fogyasztás ünnepe

E sorok olvasóinak többsége vasárnapról hétfőre virradó hajnalban valószínűleg békésen alva készült a reggel újra induló heti húsüzemre, és ez így is van rendjén. Aztán van a másik kategória, a hozzám hasonló félőrültek, akik álomország bebarangolása helyett literszám tankolták meg szervezetüket koffeinnel, energiaitalokkal.

A kitartóbbak talán aljzószerek nélkül sörrel, üdítővel, pattogatott kukoricával, chipsszel, sőt, a nagyon hagyománytisztelők csirkeszárnyakkal fegyverkeztek fel hogy megünnepeljék a világ elsőszámú fogyasztói társadalmát és annak legnagyobb ünnepét.

A Superbowl ugyanis egy ünnep. Az egybesült államok legnézettebb sporteseményének napján megáll az élet odaát, minden a sportra, valamint a showra összpontosul. Minden év februárjában az észak – amerikai profi football bajnokság (megj. a football szót fogom használni az amerikai foci helyett, ami egyrészt az amerikai angol megnevezése a sportnak, másrészt, hogy keveredés ne legyen, meg főleg rövidebb is), azaz az NFL két főcsoportjának bajnoka csap össze hogy eldőljön, ki, pontosabban kik a legények az amerikai gáton. Évi sárgyúrásukat 1967 óta tartják, előtte többféle szuverén bajnokság avatott saját bajnokot.

TV nélkül pedig nem is lenne az igazi. A Superbowl pont a televízió miatt vált mára a sport mellett egy elsőrangú showműsorrá. És nem csak a rengeteg sportelőzetesre, elemzésre, tippelgetésre gondolok. Minthogy ez a legnézettebb show az Amerikai Felbecsült Államokban, több mint 100 milliós nézettséget produkálva (minden idők 20 legnézettebb TV showjából 10 egy-egy superbowl közvetítés, az abszolút legnézettebb show a JÚESZÉJ történetében a 2011-es Superbowl a maga 111 milliós átlagával). Ennek a nagyjából 4 órának van a legnagyobb reklámértéke az évben, így ezek a reklámidők és reklámfelületek a legdrágábbak.

Nem mintha az amerikai futball ne lenne így is tele agysejtbombázó jótanáccsal, azaz hol és mit együnk, kinél bankoljunk, ki csinál fából vasparipát (igen, tudom…). Mindez a Superbowlon épp csak drágább. Félreértés ne essék, a football csapatok mezein nincs reklám. Van viszont mindenhol máshol. Így lesz az európában egyszerű mérkőzés – bevezetőből IBM meccsbevezető, sőt, azon belül a riportokat, a helyszíni kapcsolást, a riporter minden mosolyát más és más cég „szponzorálja” és ezt természetesen meg is említik.

Épp csak a reklámnak nincs támogatója: A Ford reklámot a Chrysler támogatta. Mert nekünk erre is telik… A mérkőzés ideje alatt is ez a helyzet, a pénzfeldobás (ahol csakúgy, mint az európai fociban az dől el, ki birtokolja majd először a labdát) Snickers pénzfeldobás. A mérkőzés előtti ceremóniát a Verizonnak, a negyedek közötti stódiókapcsolást a Taco Bellnek, a félidei műsort a Pepsinek köszönhetjük. És mintha nem lenne elég a közhasznú agymosásból, minden egyes alakalommal, amikor áll a játék (amikor a csapat a taktikai húzásokat dönti el): reklámszünet.

A 4 millió USD/fél perc reklámok egyike

És a Superbowl egyik legérdekesebb része pont ez. A bajnoki döntő reklámjai ugyanis potom 4 millió dolláros áron pörögnek fél perc erejéig. Az ilyen pénzért pedig rendesen felköti az ember a gatyót, és nem a Klapka – féle reklámfilozófiát veti be, hanem a rendelkezésére álló legjobb designereket, grafikusokat, sztárokat, ötleteket.

A Superbowl reklámfilm egy külön kategória. Általában valóban ötletesek, nemegy válogatás található az interneten, amely csak ezzel a típussal foglalkozik. Gyakran itt mutatják be az új filmek előzeteseit, sőt (a legnagyobb poén) a Superbowl filmelőzetesekhez már hetekkel előre (és tessék megkapaszkodni) előzeteseket sugároznak a televízióban (Eredet-feeling): Coming soon…Steven Spielberg legújabb alkotásának előzetese a Superbowlon…Coming soon.

De pont a TV és a sport ilyen kapcsolata teszi nyereségessé az egész üzletet. Az amerikai sportokban ugyanis minden csapat franchise alapon működik, tehát egy cég, amelynek meghatározott elemei állandóak, viszont nincs városhoz vagy stadionhoz kötve. A stadionokat csak bérlik, és mint bármelyik cég, kedvükre helyezhetik át a székhelyüket máshová. Így volt az elmúlt 30 évben az Raiders csapata először Oaklandben, majd Los Angelesben, majd újra Oaklanben, így folynak a latolgatások, melyik csapat költözik majd újra Los Angelesbe, sőt, Londonba.

A csapatok a mez- és egyéb termékek eladásából, reklámokból és leginkább a televíziós jogdíjakból tartják fenn magukat. Utóbbi nagyjából az átlagosan 7 millió dolláros évi bevétel majdnem felét teszi ki. A kilátások sem rosszak, hála a roskadásig telt stadionoknak és az állandó érdeklődésnek. Ez ugyanis az óperenciáson túl egy családi, baráti, egyszerűen mondva közösségi esemény. A mérkőzés előtt a stadion környékén lehet sütögetni, sörözgetni, találkozni. Odahaza főleg a csirkeszárnyak tartoznak már-már hagyományosan a football-nézés alap tartozékai közé. A sport tehát az ételgyártóknak, a szupermarketeknek, a gyorséttermeknek, a bároknak is nagy üzlet (a biológiában ugyebár ez a szimbiózis… meg itt is). Ezért kell a reklám. Ami a csatornának hozza a pénzt, az fizet az NFL – nek, (amely önmaga is egy tömörítő cégként működik) amely jó dealerként teríti szét a zöldhasúkat a csapatoknak.

A hőn áhított kupa

Mielőtt az olvasó azt hinné, hogy az egész csak reklám, hogy a sportnak semmi szerepe egy ilyen rendszerben, ez általános európai tévedés. A különböző szponzorok logói, például televízió eredményjelző grafikáján rövid időn belül megszokhatóak, a reklámszünetek kiválóak egyéb szükségletek elintézésére, és ami a leglényegesebb, az utóbbi években az NFL rájött, hogy Európában is egyre nagyobb piaca van.

Így az utóbbi 2-3 év olyan tendenciát mutatott, hogy egyre kevesebb a szünet, összefüggőbb a játék. A taktikai megbeszélések gyorsabbá váltak, és nem mindegyik alatt dobnak be reklámot. Mindenképp emészthetőbbé vált tehát a dolog, sőt, az európai nézőknek kedveskedve már európai idő szerint este 7-kor is tartanak mérkőzéseket. Néha pedig egy vagy két bajnoki meccset európában rendeznek meg (tavaly, idén és jövőre is London ad otthont az eseménynek, a jegyek nem egész 3 nap alatt keltek el).

A showt tovább fokozza a félidei műsor. A Superbowl félidei fellépőjének lenni megtiszteltetés, es lehetőség. Mindenképp beírja az ember az életrajzába. A 80-as évek közepétől általában az aktuális zenei trend egy-egy sztárja tölti ki a csapatok pihenőidejét, és az évek során külön kis koncertté fejlődött az esemény, az előadók gyakran meglepetésekkel készülnek, néha egyenesen sokkolják a közönséget.

Beyoncé és a Desteny’s Child

Az idén Beyoncé kapta a megtisztelő feladatot, aki egykori Desteny’s Child-os társait is magával hozta. A múltbéli fellépők között említést érdemel Madonna tavalyi performansza, amikor 53 családanyához „méltóan” vonaglott a pódiumon, majd ült az LMFAO-s Redfoo nyakába, vagy épp az elhíresült Janet Jackson-féle cicivillantós eset. Félidei fellépők voltak többek között még a Black Eyed Peas, a Rolling Stones, a ZZ Top, James Brown, Slash, a U2 vagy a New Kids on the Block. Nem kisebb presztízs a himnuszt elénekelni, ami idén Alicia Keysnek jutott ki. Itt nem olyan tipikus a sztárok szerepvállalása, annál tipikusabb viszont a személyreszabott előadásmód, tehát néha erősen oda kell figyelnie az embernek, hogy felfedezze a himnusz szövegét és eredeti dallamát.

Ez tehát a Superbowl és az amerikai foci egyik aspektusa, amit a televízión keresztül tapasztalhatunk. Ez a szempont szüli az errefelé oly gyakori sztereotípiát, miszerint a football csak reklám és show. Valójában pedig egy csodálatos, kemény, összetett és az előítéleteket meghazudtolóan egyáltalán nem agresszív vagy brutális sport, amelyben csakúgy, mint más sportágakban, nagy mérkőzésekre kerül sor. Hatalmas érzelmek törnek felszínre, öröm és bánat könnyei hullanak a fűre, legendák születnek, majd mennek el.

Az idei Superbowl mindebből bemutatót tartott. Sem a San Francisco 49ers, sem a Baltimore Ravens nem tartoztak a szezon nagy favoritjai közé, mégis kemény munkájuknak köszönhetően bejutottak a döntőbe. Ez volt az első olyan finálé (és az első olyan mérkőzés, sőt az első olyan sport) a Felpezsdült Államokban, amelyen testvérek mérték össze edzői tudásukat, mivel a Ravens csapatát John Harbaugh, a 49erst James Harbaugh vezeti (innen az újságok által haszált Harbowl elnevezés).

Az öreg harcos bajnoki örömkönnyei és a 49ers játékosainak csalódottsága egy nagyszerű és változatos évad végét jelentették.

Megkezdődött a hosszú szünet (offseason), amely csak a Draft, azaz az egyetemről kiöregedő játékosok kiválogatása (mint az uborkát) formájában kínál némi szórakozást a rajongóknak. Egyébként szeptemberig szieszta.

Végül pedig: Amerikai Egyesült Államok – csak hogy megmutassam, hogy tudom…

Super Bowl Junk Face Off

Yesterday was the Harbowl aka Super Bowl, but no one really cared because a couple of scrub teams were in it. Regardless, I made the trip down to Boston to watch the game with my pal Jimmy. After several Bud Lights and a large bowl of Sangria made by our El Salvadorian brohan, we concluded that the NFL is rigged, Colin Kaepernick is a pharoah, and Ray Lewis did NOT ascend into heaven after the game. We feasted on this epic football meal to celebrate our discoveries.

There are four types of mustard in this BroFridge, 4 types of hot sauce, countless pickled pepper things and a bunch of random cheeses. That's it.

We each chose a terrible food item to make. Jimmy chose buffalo chicken calzone, I chose Chicken-Bacon-Ranch-iladas (enchiladas). Though this was extremely unhealthy, I'd like to note that since I am now ServSafe Certified there were zero pathogens in this entire meal.

The ingredients.

Cook the bacon at a lower temperature than you normally would in order to render off more of the fat. You'll feel good about it later.

Like Belichick, Chip Kelly's philosophy rides on hardcore preparation, which is why we'll see the Eagles and Pats in the superbowl next year. Look as Jimmy applies this to calzone aeration. The ease and precision of those slits represents excellent foresight and game day prep.

Jimmy jus cheezin'

Both recipes are pretty simple. We split up about 2.5 lb chicken breast evenly among the two and cooked it nice n' slow on the range. I seasoned mine on both sides with fajita seasoning.

Calzone:

1.25lb chicken breast some Gorgonzola or whatever blue cheese you desire an unhealthy amount of shredded cheddar one pizza dough ranch dressing for dipping olive oil for basting egg wash for washing Stretch out the pizza dough son. Jimmy grabbed a rolling pin and I gasped, "NO, Jimmy! You have to toss the *expletive* thing!" I had never seen pizza dough rolled out. I thought it would get tough and unworkable. But alas he proved me wrong after he tossed and rolled it into a perfectly round and stretchy pie, demonstrating grace under scrutiny, just as the great Tom Brady has done so many times before.

Fill half of the dough with the shredded chicken (which as been hanging out in the buffalo sauce for a while in the fridge. Pathogens). Top with lots of cheddar and blue cheese. Fold the dough over and make a smiley face like you see at the top, crimp the edges, cut a few slits and bake at 425 until it's done. We also basted the top with an egg wash to make it look pretty, like Destiny's Child.

Chicken-Bacon-Ranch-iladas:

1.25lb chicken breast shredded, seasoned with a bit of fajita or taco stuff 1lb bacon, chopped (minus the slices that you eat) 1/4 cup ranch dressing, mixed with some of the fajita seasoning 8 flour tortillas salsa of choice unhealthy amount of shredded cheddar mix the cooked chicken, bacon and ranch dressing mixture well. Distribute among the tortillas (warmed in the microwave) and roll into enchiladas. Align in pan and cover with salsa and soo much cheddar cheese. Bake at 425 until its done (finish with a quick broil to get it all crispy) and eat it all really fast.

It's tough to say who won this friendly superbowl throw-down. I'd say they were both equally fitting football foods, and the buffalo chicken calzone turned out awesome, but the chicken-bacon-ranch-iladas were a cool idea that went together really well. I think next time we'll cook a raven and just serve it to our dogs.
