“Old man, you surface seldom.” ~ Sylvia Plath.
Waves make graves out of deep icy waters;
even for those who glide a full fathom
under the storm. Harborage for readers,
poets and all the used books that love them.
One day type, “libraries near me,” and you'll
get me ... for a while. La Sirène reading
Sexton. Port to port; a dream in the Gulf
Stream with books galore in the hold. Hauling
riches: chapbooks, zines, sonnets. Such sea toil
delights, ask Jonah. I've the sea hag's craft,
soothsayer of the surf, cowrie shell's boon.
Waves tell me whatnot, dreadnought, shoals roil,
rift. Blue-green crashing. Flotsam's drift and draft
and books enough to calm any typhoon.

Note.
I stole, “And like a dream in the Gulf-Stream/ Sinking, vanish all away,” from Longfellow. Also, it turns out a fathom is about six feet (1.83 meters), so when Ariel says, "Full fathom five thy father lies," in The Tempest that's only about 30 feet. I always thought it would be deeper.

Harborage [Yagi Toshinori | All Might/Reader] - Excerpt
An excerpt for my WIP. I'd like to churn out a drabble for today, but I probably won't have time. I was considering writing some pretty cute Kirishima or Hawks stuff because I really need some comforting stuff right now.
On the train home, you received an unexpected message from an acquaintance you rarely spoke to. Her uncanny penchant for gossip made you ignore her calls and texts entirely once you began considering Toshinori an irreplaceable element in your life. After he divulged sensitive details about his current situation with his protegé, you decided that she would be interested in your relationship for the wrong reasons. This woman had a compulsive habit of connecting seemingly random events and weaving conspiracy theories out of them.
There were seldomly entire truths in her theories, yet her odd comments and rants provided some insight into those involved that did seem to agree with reality.
That’s why you recoiled when her name showed up on your phone.
“Ugh,” you muttered, your breath creating clouds on the window. You were genuinely too old for this shit.
You opened the text with little gusto. It read: ‘Girlie, did you break up with your boyfriend? I saw him outside your apartment with a few bags. Just keeping an eye out for you. xoxo’.
Someone must have told her about Toshinori, you thought and had a few individuals in mind that could’ve disclosed it. How she recognized him, you did not know. She lived in the vicinity, so at least her discovery was not because of stalking effort but mere coincidence.
You shut your eyes, balancing on your feet while the train shook as it sped through a rocky area. God, you were tired of this bitch. At least your friends were grown up enough not to listen to the gospel of a gossiper. With your close friends, you often updated them about your life on your own - they didn’t require someone else to relay your words. They did the same to you.
As for why Toshinori brought bags outside during the biting winter, which was most likely the true component in her story, you didn’t know. Shit… You were on the verge of texting him about this several times, though your trust in him inhibited you from doing so.
There was another problem that bothered you. Biting your thumb, you recalled that you had hidden your anniversary gift in the hall closet behind your shoes. If he had searched for shoes he would definitely have seen it.
It was strange. Your anniversary was tomorrow. Perhaps he had planned something fun and was awaiting your arrival? You were more curious than worried.
Hoping that this wouldn’t bite you in the ass later on, you decided to trust your wonderful boyfriend and ignore your acquaintance out of spite.
Let's hope this shit comes out sometime next week... I've been thinking about it for a few weeks now and I find it hard to complete the ending. Hopefully I’ll get it done for Friday next week, but I can’t promise. 🙃
Inspired by the song Little by Little by Tritonal and NCT 127's Replay (PM 1:27).
I hope I find something else to listen to soon, because I'm running out of fresh songs to listen to lol

And here I was thinking my AO3 shenanigans would be a secret for the ages.. This is going to be embarrassing, darling.
Rules are: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line.
20 finished and posted stories? Ha, I wish.
1. The note was written with a neutral handwriting, nothing that would offer any clue as to whom had sent it. Meet me at the Harborage. (A Second Chance, 2020-04-12, Elder Scrolls Online)
2. Dxun. The biggest of Onderon's moons is covered by jungles and inhabited by dangerous predators, with a few ruins here and there; nothing else, at least not that she knows of. It isn't the first time that Tarkin takes her hunting, but it's the first time he takes them to such a wild, untamed place. (Demon Moon, 2021-06-23 , Star Wars)
3. Coruscant, the beating heart of the Galactic Empire, is bustling with the celebrations for the Anniversary of the proclamation of the New Order. After the military parade, a show of unsurpassed and orderly strength, the public festivities go on. There are also festivities of a more restricted nature, such as the ball held at one of the most luxurious hotels of the Federal District. The reason for getting invited to such an exclusive event, she ignores, and she would rather be at home. (Collusion, 2021-05-15, Star Wars)
4. Of all the places she could have imagined she would end up in, Sativran City wasn't exactly on top of her wish-list, but beggars can't be choosers. What the heavily industrialized planet Lexrul lacks in appeal at first glance, it makes up for with raw opportunity. In time, she has come to appreciate this city, in all its contrasts. From the streamlined manufacturing levels with its pipelines, its factories, its non-stopping furnaces and unyielding assembly lines; to the residential sectors, its buildings raising above the vapor, the smoke and the dirt, with their hanging gardens and functional elegance. The atmosphere is not too polluted, not yet, and there's still hope to keep it that way. A world with a chance for a future. It makes sense that it has grown into someone who came searching for a new beginning. (A night in Sativran City, 2021-06-23, Star Wars)
Observations: I tend use introductory lines as a way of grounding the reader on the when and where. A direct approach, no tricks. Still, in some of my WIPs I'm experimenting with a different style.
Favorite opening line: That would be the first one listed. Clear and concise.
Tagging whoever wants to share their intros :)

Blood Meridian
Blood Meridian is full of intensely explicit prose describing acts like, “one of the Delawares emerged from the smoke with a naked infant dangling in each hand and squatted a ring of midden stones and swung them by the heels each in turn and bashed their heads against the stones so that the brains burst forth through the fontanel in a bloody spew and humans on fire came shrieking forth like berserkers and the riders backed them up and down with their enormous knives and a young woman ran up and embraced the bloodied forefeet of Glanton’s warhorse.”
There is however, a silver-lining to this book—the reader is able to find moments of incredible illustrations which depict the colorful, unapologetic landscape that serves as home for these abhorrent acts of violence. These portraits of the Southwest are full of vivid imagery such as, “The way down out of the mountains toward the western sea led then through green gorges thick with vines where paroquets and gaudy macaws leered and croaked. The trail followed a river and the river was up and muddy and there were many fords and they crossed and recrossed the river continually. Pale cascades hung down the sheer mountain wall above them, blowing off of the high slick rock in wild vapors.”
By juxtaposing beautiful landscape against the inherently violent qualities of humanity, McCarthy illuminates the flaws of mankind and the unsullied virtues of nature. The author draws attention to the fact that the characters engaged in these heinous behaviors have a choice in what they do, whereas nature just is. He exposes man’s capacity for brutality when given the right set of circumstances. He describes the effect man has on nature in the following passage:
“When the sun rose he was asleep under the smoldering skeleton of a blackened scrog. The storm had long passed off to the south and the new sky was raw and blue and the spire of smoke from the burnt tree stood vertically in the still dawn like a slender stylus marking the hour with its particular and faintly breathing shadow upon the face of a terrain that was without other designation. All the creatures that had been at vigil with him in the night were gone and about him lay only the strange coral shapes of fulgurite in their scorched furrows fused out of the sand where ball lightning had run upon the ground in the night hissing and stinking of sulphur.”
By forcing the reader to suffer through the transgressions committed by the characters in Blood Meridian, McCarthy also forces the reader to contemplate their own morality through the harborage that the novel provides.

Be sure to read and view his several Letters and photo journals from the Bahamas. Harborage Yacht Club Marina is in Martin County, A CRUISERS NET SPONSOR, and a major hub of boating activities. Harborage Yacht Club and Marina Stuart, Florida 772-692-4000 https://harborageyachtclub.com In February of 2020 we spent two weeks at the Harborage, which is just northeast of the three bridges in the center of Stuart. In past years we had docked there a couple of times, and had found it to be just ok, but not great. During that period it was a Loggerhead marina and between deferred maintenance and a hurricane, it had suffered. All of that has changed, and I’m pleased to report that the marina has been virtually redone and is now a solid choice for boaters and cruisers. The northerly set of fixed docks are like new, with composite decking and new electrical and water supplies. From what we observed, most transient boats are assigned to the fixed docks, where you are permitted to stay aboard for any length of time. The southern section of the marina consists of floating docks which can also be rented for transient or longer term; staying aboard there is limited to four consecutive days, and nine total days, per month. The southern section is a much further walk to reach the pool and clubhouse area. The marina has a total of 300 slips, 150 are fixed and the rest are floating. One of the issues with this marina, in the past, has been the depth of water in the basins and slips. When we were there almost two months ago, dredging was underway full time. The dockmaster now reports that the dredging has been completed (except for a couple of slips which had boats in them), resulting in 7.5’ depth at MLW in both the slips and the fairways. While some marinas in the area have issues with current, we observed none of any significance here. The shore side facilities are excellent – pool and spa, outdoor fire-pit lounging area, free OnSpot wi-fi, a laundry, Captain’s lounge with TV, new bathrooms and showers, fitness center, boatside (golf-cart) pumpout, poolside bar and grill, and good security. They offer golf-cart rides from your boat to landside. There is an easy-approach fuel dock, with competitive prices and pump out. On site is the TideHouse restaurant, not operated by the marina. We had a very good bar-menu meal on the outside deck, with live music. There is a full dinner menu for inside. Across the street from the marina, in a shopping center, is a casual Italian restaurant, Uncle Giuseppe’s, which is easy to recommend – a comfortable place, reasonably priced, with good Italian dishes and pizza. While the marina facility is now first-rate, this is also now a well-managed marina. The Dock Master, Scott Fletcher, is a true professional, and has his hand on the pulse of the place. The dock staff he has assembled are exceptional and understand customer service. They could just not do enough for you. We had the most contact with excellent dockhands Nick and Jim. The general manger of the facility, Allison Ackell, gave us a warm welcome as we checked in and provided a detailed tour of the facility. The long term dock rates are 17-$18 a foot, per month, with metered electricity. Daily rate is $2.95 a foot, plus flat fee electric. The long term rates makes sense for a stay of more than about two weeks. A full list of rates is on their website, listed above. There is a Sam’s Club, a West Marine and a Publix market a couple of miles north on Federal Highway, along with any other stores you might ever need. Enterprise delivered a rental car to the marina for us. On Saturday mornings, in the neat historic section of Stuart, there is a small but quality farmer’s market. From the GIWW, to enter the marina you leave the main channel at marker 23, (which is northeast of the high, fixed New Roosevelt bridge) and steer for the green buoy which is just outside the entrance to the marina, between the breakwaters; that heading is approximately 310M. From 23 to the green buoy the depth was around seven feet at MLW. If you are uncertain of your track, the dock staff will “talk you in” to the marina on VHF. Is everything perfect? They need to add more dock carts – there always seemed to be a shortage. Additionally, since parking spaces are really tough to find, it would be a welcome service if the marina provided a van type shuttle to Sam’s, West Marine and Publix a few days a week. A couple of people have commented about the noise from the nearby railroad. Yes, there is some noise, but every marina in the area, including the nearby Sunset Bay, is subject to the same thing. The Stuart area is a hub for boaters on the east coast of Florida, and dock space is invariably hard to find. The rebirth of this marina makes for a great new facility in the area. The Harborage Marina is open and running during these difficult times, with a number of boats having arrived from the Keys and from the Bahamas. Revised WIP list [26/10/2019]
In Progress:
Parasite [Todoroki Shouto/Reader] - “You had previously felt flattered when Todoroki Shouto had said he couldn't see anything of her in you. Today, you somberly came to the conclusion that becoming more like his wife wouldn't be a terrible thing.” // Formerly called Forge. It will deal with infidelity, age-difference and loneliness. I didn’t like how it played out before, so I’m working on rewriting it. Everything is planned out except the ending. Will hopefully turn out hopeless and angsty.
Apoptosis [Dabi/Reader] - “You're pregnant with Dabi's child. If you ever thought that it was up to you to decide whether you could keep it or not, you're delusional on several levels.” // I want to rewrite this one, too. It could either go fluffy or complete suffer-porn, depending on my mood when I work on it. Mostly planned out.
Momentum [Onesided!Bakugou Katsuki/Onesided!Reader/Midoriya Izuku] - “An omious letter arrives in the mail for you, yet fucking Bakugo receives a wedding invitation instead? Time to One Plus Ultra, bitches.” // I actually have most of it written out and could even post an extract. Bakugo and reader crash Deku’s wedding.
Harborage [Yagi Toshinori | All Might/Reader] - A one-shot about Toshi and reader celebrating their anniversary. Almost completely planned out.
Supernatural [Kirishima Eijirou/Reader] - “Your mid-twenties are even less glorious than your tumultuous teenage years and meeting someone from UA Academy would be the bane of your existence. Seems like you’ll face a premature death from embarrassment, jealousy and guilt.” // Fic dealing with the shame and embarrassment when you don’t have your shit together, unlike everyone else around you. Not planned out, just have the beginning written. Probably hurt/comfort?
Needs Rewriting:
Dinosaur [Bakugo Katsuki/Reader] - “For having such ferocious vitality, Bakugo sure acts like an old man.” // A fluffy one-shot that reads more like a drabble. Just about an ordinary day of Bakugo and reader hanging out. I just had a great idea and I’m gonna turn it into an introduction for another one-shot.
Urban Exploration [Kirishima/Reader] - I’ll rewrite parts of this and make it a continuation of Dinosaur. Could perhaps deal with unrequited love?
Needs Planning:
Cicadas [Kaminari Denki/Reader] - “Neither of you heard fuck all from potential employers, yet the world wasn't ending. As long as you two were together, every fear and every regret would remain quiet.” // It was originally supposed to be sad, but I couldn’t figure out how to make it interesting so I’m going for a feelgood theme instead.
Random Ideas That Need Some Fleshing Out:
Cultist/Acolyte [Shigaraki Tomura/Reader] - Possibly AU. Reader gets her Quirk stolen from AFO, joins the LoV to get it back and decides that seducing Shigaraki is the most effective way to get it back.
Semantic Satiation [???/Reader] - “The more you said his name, the less you understood the situation.” // Death fic. Could maybe tie together with another one of my one-shots.
If you want a taste of what I’ve previously written, here you have my Masterlist.
