What Is Slam Poetry?

I feel like an idiot for having to Google it, even at 21, nearing 22. I feel like an idiot for being a young person not knowing something, or not knowing what slam poetry is. I’ve researched it a little and I’ve got a new sort of fixation, I suppose. I was tempted to call it an obsession, but this is way closer to an interest than a full-blown hyperfixation.

Yet, I’m fascinated, busting out possibly relevant truths. I’ve been in a place where tough love seems to be the only thing that people around me are responding to, anymore. It’s making me calloused, but with the advent of new news, and emergences of strange bedfellows, long thought forgotten, all I can do is write and hope that they secretly know that I’m talking about them.

This makes sense to nobody but them, rings bells to nobody but them. I won’t  make it difficult, I just want to see progress.

The music guides me right now, swaying my fingers across the keys the way that music helps those with attention-issues, because something’s got to come out today about it, or else I’m not going to be able to get anything done. This comes first, then the things that make people happy, because if I do this before the happycraft, then one will poison the other.

Both’ll be plagued with mixed signals, and I’d rather have two concrete messages. It’s a stupid thing to need to separate, you should be able to do that by mindset, but I think more colorfully than that, and my head doesn’t respond to the idea of being able to keep them separate without finishing one then the other.

So let it just stand. I wouldn’t make it difficult. I’d probably write some slam poetry on it, to be perfectly honest. Not to you, but maybe here. It turns my stomach to think about someone finding me unapproachable. Though I can’t keep my heart on it forever, we all know how that twists me in the end. Then nobody’ll be happy.

So I plan on ignoring the scars for a day, and trying to prepare for something while still healing from surgery. The stress has been mounting, and at this point, I’m full of holes and defeated, so take your shots, because now would be the time for someone to say something that’d really stick with me.
