I figured I would be one of the last to wish one of my biggest teenage influences a Happy Birthday. Some of my fondest memories always involved Harry Potter. Every summer in junior high was spent locked up in my room reading the books. I'm one of the fortunate ones to have grown up the same year as him. Also, he was what helped motivate me to become a writer and inspired some ideas. However, one of my most favorite memories involves the Trading Card game. On a nightly basis mom and I would drive to Target, buy some snacks (usually a Vanilla Coke for me) choose a few Harry Potter booster packs, and open them in the car. 9/10 times my mom always managed to get one of those extremely rare silver cards. She has that crazy magical quality that can sense them. We also experienced a car burglar, a woman falling off the back of a motorcycle, blood on the floor and an ambulance, and mom being so peeved she didn't get a single rare card so bought another pack that ensured a silver card. Those are just to name a few of the great memories. These cards still inspire me to write and draw. Harry Potter will always have a big place in my heart.
