bday boy - ateez San | cloudy

today is San’s birthday. you hope that he isn’t too busy with schedules. Ateez will be having a comeback soon, and San would barely text you from how busy he was. San would, before texting or even calling you, spend a whole day with his friends, aka the ateez members. The company also bought a cake for him, he tried cutting while doing a live with his fans. You watched it, hoping to get a couple of chuckles from how cute he is while talking to fans.

After a very long day, of you keeping up with your boyfriend from afar, and keeping up with your workload of the day. Your job was also tough, but on a day as important as this, you couldn’t help but focus on San and San only. You walked home since you didn’t live far from your work. However, on the way home you saw a small but beautiful cafe from San’s favorite cafe that he always makes sure to stop by and buy some sweets for the two of you. You smiled softly before walking in and asking for the specific cake you saw. The owner of the cafe smiled and asked whose birthday it was.

‘my boyfriend! the one that always stops by to buy some sweets for us, do you remember him?’ you asked. Although San had come here often, the owner has amnesia, so she doesn’t usually remember people.

‘ah! is it the one that always has a different hair color?’ she owner asked while pricing the cake and you chuckled. San’s job always made him change his hair color, although he liked trying new things, it still wasn’t nice for his scalp.

‘yes, that may be him’ you responded with a smile and the owner told you the price of the cake. You paid and left, saying goodbye to the cafe owner and heard a faint ‘wish him a very happy birthday for me!’ with a smile, you turned around and nodded, assuring that you heard the owner.

The rest of the walk home was extremely peaceful. You started to walk a bit slower so that the cake would remain in perfect condition. The small box swaying by your legs every minute or so. You finally reached home and unlocked the door to find Sleepy already in between your legs. Sleepy was a very sweet ginger cat, but she was mostly sleeping; which is how she acquired her name.

‘hey sleepy, did you miss me?’ you placed the box on the kitchen counter and picked up Sleepy who deserved some love after not having seen her best friend for hours. You hugged Sleepy and pet her a few times before leaving her on the floor to finally call San.

Before you even reached for your phone, it was vibrating; a phone call from San. You smiled as your thoughts about him were confirmed once more; destiny. You answered the phone call to hear San humming a melody, a birthday song melody.

‘나의 사랑하는 산에게 생일 축하해. (happy birthday to my lovely San)’ you whispered in between his melody and he giggled. You giggled too. This was San’s first birthday you were spending as a couple. But even with the distance.. it still felt absolutely perfect.

‘I’m currently on my way to see you..’ San whispered and then let out a ‘shh!’ almost as if you two were planning a surprise birthday party for someone. Your heart jumped of happiness. You couldn’t help but smile and let out a soft ‘okay’ and then the phone call ended.

You hurried to your room and took a look at yourself, you didn’t look absolutely perfect, but you tried to fix most things. Such as your hair, doing a small touch-up on your makeup. And making sure that you smelled good, since San adored to give hugs. You smiled at your image in the mirror and noticed Sleepy go to your bed.

‘Sleepy, how do I look?’ Sleepy meowed and lied his head on his paws. You tilted your head before turning around, ‘I’ll take that as a compliment..’ you said before walking into the kitchen and unleashing the cake from the box. The cake was absolutely perfect, it was small and simple, just like how you’d describe your relationship with San. Small and simple moments were constant between you two, but somehow, even the touch of your fingers in between San’s hair felt special. Simple things and small gestures always had such big meaning.

Your ears were suddenly blessed by the noise of your front door opening. San had the keys to your house, but this time the door wasn’t locked. Everything was set and simply waiting for him to be there. You turned around and saw the most beautiful man in your life. Your feet rushed towards him, and without any hesitation, you wrapped your arms around him.

‘생일 축하해, 생일 축하해~’ (happy birthday, happy birthday~) you whisper into San’s ear, suddenly his whole body shakes from his chuckles. Then, San wraps his arms around you and holds you tighter than before, burying his face in your neck. You two stay like this for maybe a minute or two. No words being said, just close contact. Just feeling each others’ heartbeats. Just speechlessly expressing how much you two love each other.

‘the cake is delicious! I couldn’t even try the cake that kq bought because it was too hard to cut,’ San commented and laughed shortly, you smiled.

‘I watched a bit of your vlive, some fans found out it was a one star cake... can I please go and punch whoever owns kq for giving you such a bad cake?!’ you asked, from your point of view, you sounded so angry that even San could feel scared. On the other hand, San chuckled and ruffled your hair whispering how cute you just sounded.

‘I’m just grateful that I got to spend my birthday with the members and with you,’ San spoke softly before grabbing you by your face and kissing you on the lips. Once he let go of you, you placed your plate somewhere before returning to his lips. A slow kiss, quickly receiving a break because you had some coconut to swallow. San laughed and you whispered ‘ew’ under your breath and laughed too. San sat a bit straighter on the couch and looked directly into your eyes, ‘can I sleep here as a birthday present?’

Although San’s wording and expressions didn’t insinuate anything sexually, you still felt your cheeks burn hot. Had you and San been dating for almost over a year now? Yes. Have you and San ever had sex? No. Have you ever had sex in your life? No.

You grew up in an extremely strict family, and whenever a girl slept over at a boy’s house, in your eyes, it meant that they had sex. And whenever a guy slept over at a girl’s house, it meant that they had sex.

But this isn’t fully the case. You’re an adult, with a job and your own house. And your boyfriend wants to sleep over at your house. What’s the problem? You didn’t know.

‘I can sleep on the couch if you want...’ San spoke after noticing your thoughtful face. San knew what type of mentality you grew up on, and he understood it and always tried to make sure that you remained comfortable. ‘or, just not sleep here at all. It’s your decision,’ he smiled softly.

‘you can sleep here.. with me,’ you spoke softly and San’s eyes grew a tad bigger, suddenly almost becoming a line once he smiled. ‘you’re my boyfriend, it’s your duty to sleep with me,’ you chuckled awkwardly and San laughed along with your badly worded joke.

Going to bed felt a bit different, San always left a small backpack with a change of clothes at your house in case he stopped by here after practice. He got changed into more comfortable clothes and even had a toothbrush hidden somewhere in the backpack. You also did your night routine, warm shower, taking care of your skin, brushing your teeth and then changing into your pajamas. Once you walked into your room San wasn’t lying in bed yet, he was just sitting beside it and playing with Sleepy, that suddenly seemed energetic.

You got into bed, not really knowing what to do, and San glanced at you. ‘I can still sleep in the couch, it’s totally fine with me.’ San spoke softly walking towards you and you shake your head.

‘이리 와~’ (come here~) you say and San smiles, dropping his weight on the bed and slowly crawling towards you like a baby. San adjusts himself in your bed and you crawl towards him, hugging him from the side and you look up at him. ‘I like it~’ you say in a childish tone and San wraps his arm around you, his hand playing with your hair.

‘i love you’ San whispers, and your sight darkens as you fall into sleep.
