@zukki-week Day 5: "There was only one bed" but now it's THREE people
AKA they all fell asleep in Zuko's bed after another assassination scare and are about to wake up like this except Zuko actually just might already be awake but is fine to keep pretending to sleep because he doesn't want to disentangle his leg from Sokka's quite yet because... this is actually... kind of nice?

@zukki-week starts early in these parts (because I wrote too much and need to lead in to the actual prompts)! Featuring the confusing line between best friends and dating, Zuko's lack of a blueprint for any and all new social situations, banter, flirting, obliviousness, getting together (for some people involved), and Toph realizing she's surrounded by idiots.
[Not that Zuko needed to be told, of course. It was always obvious that Sokka and Suki were together, or going to be together, or in the process, or…whatever. Zuko just didn’t realize they were finally together together. And it feels like he should have. They’re his friends, his two best friends out of the whole seven he tentatively thinks he can claim for himself these days, and it just feels… It just feels like he should have known.] OR, Sokka and Suki are thrilled that they and Zuko are all officially together, while Zuko very abruptly realizes that Sokka and Suki are finally dating. Which is okay. Obviously. He's happy for them. Really.

all i want is the here and now - purring
For day two of @zukki-week: hair
wc: 1006 | rated: T (for language and to be safe) tags: modern au, slice of life, feelings realization [AO3 link] [prologue] [previous part] [next part]
"And there's another hair," Suki grumbles to herself, pinching the offending thing between her fingers and pulling it free from her (her!) sweater. It's dark and long, straight as a rod. So, it's one of Zuko's, this time.
She never would have thought that living with two long haired guys would result in her having their hairs all over her stuff. But after 4 weeks of living together and washing her clothes in the same wash as them about two times, it seems that zero of her shirts are left hair free. It's as if she lived with cats instead.
It's annoying. But secretly, Suki also loves it. As much as she bitches about finding a hair of one of the guys on her clothing, she's secretly thrilled about it. It reminds her that she's always keeping a piece of them close to her, whether she's aware of it or not.
Whether they know it or not, they are marking her. Piece for piece, hair for hair. Suki loves it.
She still proclaims her disdain for the many hairs of her roommates overtaking the apartment and her stuff, especially when it's her turn to clean the shared bathroom – that's actually pretty disgusting.
But she also embraces them. Finds ways to fold carding her fingers through their hair into the affections they share regularly anyway, takes the opportunity to brush her thumb over Sokka's freshly shaven sides when she compliments him on the new cut and offers to braid Zuko's hair whenever he complains about it getting in the way. Or, lately, whenever he lets her.
He lets her more often than not.
When Suki turns to where the hair still between her fingers comes from, she catches Zuko reaching up to tuck a stubborn strand of hair back behind his ear. He's sitting on the couch with a book in his lap, apparently too engrossed in it to do something more permanent to keep his hairs out of his eyes.
The strand slips from his hold almost as soon as he's removed his hand. Zuko scowls, absentmindedly reaches up again, focus never straying from what he's reading.
Despite her fingers itching to get his hair tamed for him, Suki just keeps looking at him, enjoying that she gets to observe for a while without being caught. He looks so comfortable and cozy, like he's actually feeling at home and able to relax in their shared space. It makes something flutter inside of her, happy to see him like this and proud to have at least a part in it.
Zuko reaches up again, makes a little annoyed humming sound, but it's just too cute. She can't keep up the distance anymore.
She plops down next to him and instantly has his eyes on her. He's still smiling softly.
"I can help with that," she offers, holding up a hair tie.
Zuko's eyes light up. Suki's heart skips a beat.
"Mmh, please do," he hums and turns around to sit with his back towards her.
"Just keep reading," Suki tells him. She won't mind as long as he's content.
Zuko hums as she starts carding her fingers through his long strands, detangling what barely needs to be detangled before she starts separating his hair into small sections.
When the first braid is done and Suki tries stealing a glance at Zuko's face, his eyes are closed, and so is the book in his lap. His lips are slightly parted, something between surprise and relaxation. Suki's heart skips another beat at the clear display of trust.
She gets her hands into his hair again before she gets too lost in looking at him; gets lost stroking his hair and massaging his scalp instead. Zuko starts humming after a while, making other sounds of contentment that make her think how maybe she lives with a cat after all with how similar to purring they sound.
When she strokes along his neck, Zuko softly moans.
Suki freezes.
And Zuko whines.
Fuck.
She forces herself to unfreeze, going back to moving her fingers through Zuko's hair before he realizes what just happened. And only once Zuko is purring again, she lets herself spiral a little bit.
Thankful for how practiced her hands are at braiding and unbraiding his hair, she lets muscle memory take over while she replays those sounds again and again in her head, lets her thoughts stray to other contexts where she'd like to hear those sounds in.
"–looks really nice," she hears Sokka saying next to her all of the sudden.
She's snapped out of her thoughts, half-heartedly chastising herself for being so out of it, she didn't notice him getting home, while she tries to assess how incriminating the scene may look from Sokka's point of view.
But when she looks up at him, he's gazing at Zuko with a besotted look and a blush high on his cheeks. Zuko is blushing too, and inclining his head to try and hide his face, effectively pulling his hair from Suki's hands with the movement. Good thing the braids are in a state that counts as done.
Suki briefly considers leaving them alone, trying to figure out how to deal with that emotionally. But before she reaches any conclusion, Sokka turns towards her. The same enamored gaze still on his face, but now directed at her.
Oh.
"Can you do me next?" he asks.
Suki can barely nod.
Oh.
He sits himself down in front of her, or practically in her lap, and offers his wolf tail up to her.
And while Suki lets her hands caress Sokka's head, listening to the content sounds he makes, working and reworking braids into his hair, Zuko simply repositions himself to be out of the way of her elbows, opens his book again and seemingly continues purring.
"This is it," Suki thinks in the easy quiet, "this is why Sokka and I didn't work out last time. We weren't bad for each other, or too much – we were simply missing Zuko."

Happy to join in, and to hop on the Zukki week train!
“Oh, lotus cakes!” Sokka says as they come out of the basket, leaning forward over his elbows in interest. “That’s your favorite this time of year, right, darling?” Suki asks, her smile warm and her hand almost absent as she runs her affectionate fingers through Sokka’s loose hair, the motion so comfortable and intimate and familiar that Zuko— “Right,” Zuko says, dragging his eyes to the platters he’s still balancing in his arms. “Yes. They’re—yes.”
(Zuko is 'darling' here btw, which is definitely absolutely a totally platonic nickname you give your good bud)
As always I treat the concept of 'line' loosely lol

Modern au zukki being awesome aunt and uncles
“Say Sokka.”
“‘uki!”
“Sokka,” the boy in question emphasizes. “Sokka.”
Bumi giggles, head butting Sokka’s chest. “‘uki, uki, uki!” Sokka groans dramatically, falling back onto the ground. His nephew sits on his chest, happily laughing. “I can’t believe the betrayal. Fuck you,” he says to the ceiling.
“Maybe he just likes me more,” Suki says from her seat on the couch, pretending like she’s not snapping about a million pictures of her boyfriend and his nephew. Sue her, it’s adorable. Ever since Sokka agreed to babysit for Aang and Katara this weekend, it’s been nonstop shenanigans between the two. Shenanigans that have been equally annoying and adorable, if Zuko has anything to say about it. Speaking of which-
“Sokka, what are you doing?” Zuko sighs, showing his face for the first time that morning. It’s a rare occurrence that the guy ever sleeps in, but exams week seems to be the exception. Her other boyfriend looks terrible, greasy black hair pulled back into a messy bun, dark circles under his eyes. His face softens though, when he sees Sokka on the carpet.
“I’m trying to teach Bumi how to say my name,” Sokka replies, sitting up. Bumi collapses against his chest, whining. “The little traitor will only say Suki’s and Toph’s name though. How can you even pronounce Toph?” he lamantes at the toddler.
“What it sounds like is you’re cussing at a baby.” Ooh, and there’s Zuko’s judgmental face.
“The baby can’t understand!”
“The baby is learning how to speak! How do you think Katara’s gonna react when her kid drops an f-bomb after staying here for two days?”
“Whatever,” Sokka mutters sulkily. “You’re just jealous you don’t have a baby to indoctrinate.”
Zuko challenges this by dropping on the ground across from Sokka, cross-legged. Bumi perks up, immediately cooing at Zuko.
“Hey, baby,” Zuko says, in the same soft voice he uses with scared animals, his baby sister, and Suki after a bad night. Something sentimental in Suki’s heart twists at the sound. “Is Uncle Sokka teaching you bad words?”
“Zzz-uko,” Bumi says.
Sokka gapes. “Are you serious, right now?”
Zuko holds his arms out. Bumi, unsteadily, stands up and stomps over to him, falling into his lap with a gurgle. Sokka looks up at Suki. And then back down at the adorable picture the sleep-deprived Zuko and happy toddler make.
“I don’t know whether to feel betrayed or not. Why is that so cute?”
“I’m not cute,” Zuko says, bouncing Bumi.
“Uh-huh,” Suki agrees, saving the video on her phone and sending it to Katara. “Sokka, stop saying bad words in front of Bumi.”
“You’re only saying that because Zuko’s here and you want him to make you coffee,” Sokka accuses.
“Maybe so,” Suki defiantly says.
“Make your own coffee, I’m busy,” Zuko sniffs. He’s now progressed to playing peek-a-boo with Bumi. Ugh, there’s only so much sweetness Suki’s heart can take before she fucking dies of cuteness. She slides onto the floor, next to her partners.
“Say Suki,” she says to Bumi, holding out her hands. Bumi, now the center of everyone’s attention, lets out a high-pitched happy shriek, hiding his face in Zuko’s shoulder. “‘uki,” he says, muffled.
“Ss-uki,” Suki emphasizes the s.
“Thhssss,” Bumi repeats. “Thhss-uki!”
Suki grins triumphantly as Sokka groans. Bumi peeks out, looking really fucking smug for a baby.
“This is-this is clear favoritism,” Sokka sputters. “Why do I even- this is the opposite of nepotism-”
“Say Toph,” Zuko coaxes.
“Ophf.” Bumi grins, flapping his hands.
Sokka groans, burying his face in Suki’s shoulder. Both Suki and Zuko laugh.
“Katara says to stop antagonizing her child,” Suki says, grinning at her phone. “And for Zuko to please go take a shower,” she adds.
“Tell Katara she's not the boss of me,” Zuko says back.
“Ka-aat,” Bumi repeats.
“Are you kidding me?!” Sokka flops on the ground, face down. “That's not even what he calls Katara.”
Suki and Zuko exchange a look. Then,
“Hey, Bumi, say Aang,” Suki whispers. Sokka sits straight up.
Bumi bounces in Zuko’s hold. “Aang!”
Sokka throws his hands up in the air. “Oh for the love of-”
“Fff-uck,” says Katara’s child. All three adults freeze.
“Sokka-”
“Katara is going kill us-”
“Can you delete language?” Sokka whispers, horrified. “She's never going to let us watch him again.”
All three of them exchange matching panicked expressions. Then,
“Toph,” Zuko says.
“Toph did it,” Suki agrees.
“Absolutely,” Sokka gives a thumbs up. “She fucking owes us for the weed thing anyway.”
“Stop swearing in front of him!” Zuko groans.
“It's too late now, we might as well!”
Suki shakes her head as they dissolve into childlike bickering. Bumi looks adorably amused, making happy laughs at Sokka’s over dramatic outrage. Suki grins at him.
Toph probably wouldn't collaborate their story. And Sokka was definitely getting reamed out in the near future. Oh well, that was a problem for future them.
She snaps another picture, sending it to Katara. Both Sokka and Zuko are clearly arguing, with Bumi looking on entertained.
i dread the day they get their own baby, she captions it.
jesus they better not be fucking up his development, Katara sends back a minute later.
Suki grins and pockets her phone. “Alright, losers, who's making me coffee?”

zukki, “Sukki walks into their living room with a spring in her step.”
I physically cannot write only five sentences BUT I don't think anyone will complain about more content
Suki walks into their living room with a spring in her step. She walks up behind her boyfriend and throws an arm around his shoulder, relishing at the way he squeaks in surprise. "Good morning, Mr. Fire Lord," she chirps. Zuko tilts his head backward, surveying her upside down. It's a pretty unattractive angle for both of them, but Zuko still manages to be breathtakingly beautiful, even like this. The bastard. "Good morning, Commander Suki," he replies. "You seem happy today." Suki grins. "That's because I am happy, Zuko." She pats his, firm and muscled, chest before dropping her arm and moving to sit in the chair in front of his at the table. Zuko's eyes follows her every move. "I got a letter today." Zuko's entire face lights up with hope and excitement. They both receive a number of letters daily, from a number of people, but there's only one that could make her this happy. "Sokka's coming home?" Still smiling, Suki fishes the letter from her robe pocket and passes it over. Zuko grins as he takes it, unfolding it quickly with his long, elegant fingers. His eyes scan the page hungrily, though he must already know he's right. "Two weeks," Zuko breathes. He looks up at Suki. "He'll be here in two weeks?" Suki nods; her smile so wide that her cheeks are beginning to hurt. Zuko lunges across the table to kiss her, unable to contain his excitement and happiness any longer. It's a little awkward since they're both smiling but neither of them care. It's been six long, hard months without Sokka and he's finally coming home.
send me a ship + an opening sentence
#zukki#atla#asks#spectralcentroid#(sokka has been in the swt as he should be)#(but they miss him)#(also suki is whipped for zuko as she should be)

Since you just have to describe the fic and not write the whole thing I'm gonna be self indulgent. Zukki (or a subship) + 36 + 61
36. Text/Letter Fic
61. Love Confession
I have never read a Zukki fic that wasn't yours but letter writing is my JAM so let's GOOOOOO.
- Okay, so post-Atla canon, Sokka and Suki are in the same place, idk, doing ambassador shit, (EDIT: Important addition, they're NOT TOGETHER YET) and so Zuko, who isn't the greatest letter writer ever, just writes them joint letters because he hates writing the same letter twice when he knows that they could just swap letters cause they live right there together.
- One day a letter arrives addressed to both of them, and so Suki is hanging out in Sokka's room reading it to him while Sokka tinkers with his latest gadget, half listening. Suki gets to the end and reads I think I love you. and Sokka is still only half paying attention so he's like "Awww, you love me? That's so sweet of you Suki, I love you too." And she goes "No, I mean that's what he wrote." Letter isn't signed, etc. etc. just stops there. Sokka gets up and demands to read it himself, which he does, and then he's like "wait who was this addressed to" and they have this whole big fight over who Zuko even meant that for. They're both secretly kinda happy to fight over this because then they don't have to unpack Sokka thinking that Suki said she loved him (which they both are, you know, on board with, but nobody wants to talk about it).
- Meanwhile Zuko is searching high and low for this letter he started a few days ago, cause he really needs to fix it up (read: recopy and finish it) and send it, and Mai just shows up in his room, as she does, and is like "oh yeah, I sent that." "You did WHAT???"
- Now everybody is embarrassed. Zuko sends both Sokka and Suki apology letters, which feels weird cause usually he just addresses his letters to both of them, but they're not sharing to see what the other said because they both think this means that he meant it for the other one to get it. Both Sokka and Suki are upset by the thought and can't really tell if it's because they wanted Zuko or because they wanted each other. Intense three-way mutual pining ensues.
- Eventually Mai gets fed up with Zuko's depressed ass, so she forges a letter to each of them that's like, the Avatar equivalent of "CONGRATS you won an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii!!!" and since Sokka and Suki aren't really talking to each other because they're both so embarrassed it works. She gets Ty Lee to help her book a room for the three of them, so they're all stuck in this suite with a single king bed in it, and they all desperately need the vacation so they're all like "no this is fine, I'm not dealing with anything, I can hang out with you for a week, sharing a bed, this is fine."
- Reader, it is not fine. It is not fine at all. I haven't decided who breaks first, but there's some shouting, and some tears, and eventually they all end up making out in that giant bed and realizing that the best thing about this whole thing is that because they're all in love with each other, they don't actually have to choose. The End.
Give me a ship and two tropes off of this list and I’ll tell you how I’d mash them together.
#zukki#avatar the last airbender#fanfiction#there you go Rae I wrote you some Zukki#I even threw in a little extra There Was Only One Bed just for you#I hope you like it

fuck it....................zukki college au
Alright yall theyre all students at the big university in ba sing se
Sokka is a political science/environmental science double major (hes so smart), suki is a public policy major with a womens study minor (hell yea), and zuko is psychology major and art history minor (hes a baby)
Sokka wants to help better his community, and climate change still exists in this universe soooooo when hes stuck between picking two majors hes like Why Not Bot
Suki doesn’t know what she wants to do w her life so she picked a widely applicable but boring major and shes a huge feminist so at least some of her classes are interesting
Zuko…. Wants to do something where he helps kids so hes kinda thinking about being a child psychologist? Or maybe sumn in social work… he wants to help kids that went thru trauma like he and his sister did
They meet… at a party… but its not just any party… its tophs 21st birthday party and everyone is just. Shitfaced. Zuko is invited by Aang bc they’re in the same religious arts class n that’s how he meets sokka and suki who are the champion beer pong team. By the time everybody leaves to go to the bars sokka is so drunk hes crying about how much he loves his friends and then zuko and suki take him to get tacos
Zuko works part time at his uncle’s tea shop close to campus and one day the next week suki walks in! and shes like hey I didn’t know u worked here! And zuko is like hi :D yeah! So sokka and suki start hanging out at the tea shop during zukos shifts and work on their homework and keep him company. He likes them both a lot but theyre casually dating and hes like :(( sigh
Soooo lets skip past lots of angst and pining and FINALLY sokka and suki clearly communicate they both like zuko and want to be with him and zuko is like….sounds fake but ok
They start things off slow at first like going to get food and watching Netflix on the couch and ending up in a cuddle pile and going to the park to feed the turtle ducks and so on
Suki is captain of the roller derby team the Kyoshi Warriors and they always go support her bouts when it’s a home match
Sukis roommate ty lee is also on the team and when zuko first goes to a match he’s surprised to see his high school gf mai there, who is ty lee’s gf!!! So they all hang out and support their kick ass gfs
Sokka drinks too much beer and gets drunk and almost gets kicked out for shit talking the other team too loudly
After the Kyoshi Warriors win the match, the team goes out and drinks and zuko picks suki up from the bars at like 2am and she cant stop telling him how CUTE he is and zuko is just like :)))))))))
And then they get mcdonalds
Sokka is like. Always busy bc hes a double major and a TA for two different earth science classes so hes in the library or tutoring center a lot and zuko always brings him dinner and snacks especially during midterms and finals
For Halloween they go as the powerpuff girls. Bc why not
Suki almost gets into a fight with some homophobic assholes at the bar and sokka n zuko carry her out of the bar and when theyre walking back to suki’s place she starts crying bc people are assholes and then zuko starts crying and then sokka starts crying and then they all get mcdonalds
They all take one unit pe courses together bc a) sukis gotta stay buff for derby b) both sokka and zuko have anxiety and exercise really helps and its one of the only times during the week where they can spend time together (they all have class/work at different times so its hard to get together)
When they finally get a place together, it’s a 2 bedroom apartment bc one closet would not be enough for all three of their wardrobes
Sokka n Zuko got that Drip
Its also nice to have an extra bedroom in case toph or aang get too drunk to walk home
Iroh stops by once or twice a week to drop off extra baked goods from the tea shop even though zuko always brings some home after his ship
(when zuko tells him that hes in a poly relationship, iroh does not Get It. But who is he to judge now that his nephew is so happy? Plus he loves having sokka and suki around so)
Life in that apartment is v happy bc even though theyre all stressed out college students, there is so much love 2 go around
They love napping on the couch together
Zuko and sokka love cooking n meal prepping together
Suki loves leaving cute little love notes around the house
Suki and sokka love showing zuko movies
Like for example – zukos never seen dirty dancing. That shocking revelation leads to all three of them attempting the Lift – with suki holding zuko’s waist above her head, and sokka behind her holding onto zuko’s hands so they don’t lose balance. It lasts for a minute and ends with them on the floor crying with laughter
So yea basically…..they love each other n they live happily ever after
i also like to make playlists so here is what i think they would listen to if they had a spotify account:
suki (riot grrrl/90s with some rap n hip hop)
zuko (just pure emo. some lorde. mostly emo)
sokka (pop rock n rap... my man likes to dance and chill ok)
BONUS: zuko is the biggest unironic emo… and when suki and sokka surprise him with warped tour tickets (I KNOW LOL DIFFERENT UNIVERSE JUST GO WITH IT) for his birthday he starts 2 cry
He never thought he would feel this type of love…like ever

Grey Day
Honestly, I'm not happy with the end of this one, but it's been sitting in my drafts for a while n i figured i should just get it out. Inspired by my bouts of executive dysfunction.
~☆~
Everything was grey. Barren and grey.
Not the good kind of grey either, the kind that glitters like a pool of moonlight and mercury. No. This was the grey of rolling fields & charred trees, decimated by some long-gone tragedy.
It had crept in on his mind, slowly becoming the normal, the barren scene of a mind without.
After all, being in a position such as his brought repression. The need to seem perfect. To hold everyone up, especially when they couldn't do it themselves.
...it hadn't even been voluntary. An unconscious reaction to long-term stress of such a mindset. That everyone needed support, but you would be fine. He would be fine. He always was.
And so that was how the grey day, the first in weeks, had found him. Laying half-curved on a couch in NSR tower, scrolling around some bland social media, trying to ignore the persistant little voice in the back of his head that was whispering, barely a breath of wind across a barren plain.
He wasn't getting anything done. Nothing at all. That's okay. That's okay. He'd get stuff done when he got up.
But his limbs felt weighted, unmoving, as if someone had come along and filled them with cement.
Steps echoed through the room, and as Eve caught sight of him, the light of realization sparked in her vibrant acid green eyes. She pulled out her phone, and her voice echoed, melodious, down the line.
"Zuke? Yes it's me. I'm at the thirty-fifth floor of NSR tower and there's someone here who needs you."
He could faintly hear a tinny response, as if spoken from down a large tube, answer.
"Yeah, I'll be right there."
Eve took one last look at him, lying on the sofa, and walked away, heels clicking softly against the stone floor.
...
He didn't know how long it had been. Like hours had past, but felt only as minutes.
The door of the elevator opened with a soft whoosh, then came the thud, thud of shoes, and finally a weight dipped the other end of the couch.
"You okay Snow? Cause I left almost as soon as N-Eve called, but it's been hours. And if you haven't moved..." He sounded concered. So Snow should probably respond right? That was... socially acceptable. But he couldn't do it. Could work up the will to move his legs, or open his mouth to say a little line about little Zukkie missing him.
Zuke sighed and, carefully moving Snow's legs, sat at the other end of the couch. No! That whisper in Snow's mind wanted to scream, get us up! We have work to do! But they both just sat, waiting out the echoing silence.

all i want is the here and now - cuddlypoops
For day four of @zukki-week: relationship negotiations
wc: 1137 | rated: T (for language and to be safe) tags: modern au, getting together, pet names [AO3 link] [prologue] [previous part] [next part]
It's seemingly the middle of the night when Sokka wakes up with a crook in his neck and feeling way too hot.
He hears snoring that's somehow too loud to be coming from the next room. He tries removing his blanket, but it clings to him, and his cushion is uncharacteristically hard – and moving?!
He's very clearly not in his bed.
It still takes a while for his brain to wake up enough to clue him into where he is. But once it does, he recognizes the cushion as Zuko's abdomen and the blanket as Suki's arm.
They all fell asleep on the sofa in a pile, limbs around each other and faces smushed into soft body parts. On further investigation, even more body parts start to ache, but it's still too good to want to get away any time soon, he wants to enjoy it just a little longer, just a bit more...
When he wakes up the next time, blearily blinking his eyes open, he's greeted with a quiet "Good morning," in Zuko's raspy voice. And isn't it a treat to hear it even raspier this early?
Sokka even gets to look up at Zuko's smiling, sleep-soft face. He's also still warm and cuddled softly and so comfortable, so he doesn't really think when he answers with, "Morning, baby."
He sees Zuko freeze, almost starts to panic once he realizes what exactly he'd said, but then Zuko smiles even wider. Everything is great and his heartbeat picks up.
"Why does he get to be baby, what if I wanted to be baby?" Suki's voice suddenly cuts in.
"Because you're babe," Zuko's raspy voice supplies unexpectedly before Sokka can think of an answer.
"Mhm, yeah, he's right, babe. But then what am I?" he asks.
"Cuddlypoops," Suki and Zuko say at the same time and then break out in hysterical laughter at Sokka's indignant squeak.
Zuko shakes with laughter so much, it dislodges Sokka from where he was still lying partially on him and when Suki sits up to clutch at her sides, moving around quite a bit, it sends Sokka tumbling to the floor. It also breaks his stubborn pout, and he joins in laughing.
They send each other back into giggling fits a few times. But once they've calmed down a tense silence descends over the living room. Sokka isn't sure, if he really dares to hope or if that was all just friendly banter.
When he chances a glance at his roommates on the sofa, they are kind of holding onto each other and their faces look as guarded as he feels. So he dares.
"Can I–" he needs to clear his throat, needs to try again.
"Can I really call you baby and babe?" he finally asks. There are no protests.
Still, he can't look them in the eyes for the next part, but he needs to add, "And maybe girlfriend and boyfriend too?"
He's met with silence. Fuck.
Then two hands reach out to him, pulling him back on the couch.
Suki puts her hand on his cheek, making him look at her.
"Yes, I would really like that," she offers, stroking along his jaw.
Smiling affectionately at him, she adds, "Please be my boyfriend again."
Sokka's heart beats faster, but this time mostly from how excited he is and only a little out of fear for Zuko's reaction. He still didn't say anything.
But before he can collect the courage to turn towards him, Suki adds, "my cuddlypoops."
She snickers.
"Yes, cuddlypoops, I'd like to be your boyfriend too," Zuko finally answers between more giggles. He reaches out to twin their fingers together.
Sokka can't even be mad about the teasing, he's just so damn happy and feels so at home. He lets them hold onto him, moving closer to feel more of his partners, and they pull him in until he basically sits on their laps squished between them. Despite how he'd like to pepper them with kisses right about now, he closes his eyes again and enjoys the closeness, lets his heart calm down for a bit.
He just got a boyfriend and a girlfriend!
They press closer around him, touching in every place they can, until they are just one lump of bodies. It's perfect.
Then Suki speaks up again, her voice almost too loud in the comfortable silence that settled around them.
"Zuko, would you like to be my boyfriend too?" she asks.
Sokka feels frantic movement somewhere by his shoulder, probably, hopefully, Zuko nodding.
"Yes, I'd like that, babe," he eventually adds verbally.
Sokka's heart melts, explodes, mends itself. He's so happy, now that's actually perfect.
"I'm glad", Suki says, "I'd really like that too."
She's smiling wide and happy, it's obvious in her voice.
"But," she adds, sounding more serious again, "we need to discuss some things."
Oh, oh no.
Sokka wants to protest, doesn't want to get serious when he could instead cuddle with his girlfriend and his boyfriend, kiss them stupid, sleep some more in their arms.
But, once again, Suki is obviously right. He motions for her to continue.
"Most importantly, who gets a bed big enough for all three of us? But also, what about other people? Are we exclusive between the three of us? Do we tell people? What do we tell them?"
It sounds like she isn't done with questions, but Sokka needs to cut in, it's already too much to answer.
"You get the bed, or at least it goes into your room, we could help pay for it if we get to help decide. What do you think Zuko?"
Zuko looks unsure. "I think I'd like to sleep in my own bed most of the time. You know it's hard enough to sleep for me anyways. But otherwise, yeah, and I'll help pay too."
"Yeah, my bed isn't really a bed anyway, that works for me," Suki nods.
"And I'd like to keep it between us for the moment, if that's alright?" Sokka adds carefully.
"But I think I don't mind if we open it up in the future. You could still have a go at my exes, babe," he winks at her.
"My exes too," Zuko adds, "and other people. As long as it's not Jet."
Suki laughs at their offers, Sokka shudders at the memory of the shit show that Jet and Zuko's breakup was.
"So we'll keep it between us for now but talk about it again when the first of us feels like maybe crossing that bridge is what I'm getting? And I get a new bed soon," Suki summarizes.
Zuko nods. "Exactly, yeah," says Sokka.
For a while, they simply enjoy touching and feeling each other.
"Speaking of beds," Sokka eventually speaks up, "how about we all move to mine for now?"
Suki is up before he even finished the question, and when he finally arrives in his bedroom with Zuko in tow, she's already cuddled into his bed and reaching out for them to join her.
