BBS is a tragedy in many ways, but one of the things that gets me is that the catalyst, the one big thing that caused this mess to begin with, is so avoidable.

Like, the story starts primarily because Terra starts to fear himself (because of the darkness he has unwittingly 'used') and this causes a spiral of doubt and obsession. A spiral which he could've escaped from or maybe not even started if he just 1) had been taught the balance between light and dark properly (that darkness is more than just unquestionable evil, that light is more than unquestionable good, that they can and should co-exist in balance), and 2) had consistent socialization from more than the same 3 people.

Like. BBS is a cautionary tale about what happens when people aren't exposed to a wide enough variety of people and, therefore, end up naive and overly trusting because they never learned that people have ulterior motives. Terra is consistently manipulated and used by people literally everywhere he goes, because he can't see that they might not have the best intentions! He can't see the red flags because he doesn't know there are red flags to look for!

Xehanort knows this. It's why he targeted Terra to begin with: because he would be susceptable to his words. The main reason he couldn't use Aqua is because she was too confident in her own values, she didn't have the seed of doubt that Terra had. It's the only thing that prevents her from being used the same way he is, even though she is just as naive and trusting as he is.

Ven probably has it the worst socialization wise. Unlike Terra and Aqua who, presumably, has/had a family and life outside of the Land of Departure prior to beginning training there, Ven doesn't remember anything before then (not that he had much he'd be happy to remember anyway). And since he's the youngest and most 'fragile' one (due to being in recovery for most of his time here), he gets somewhat coddled and shielded by everyone else. Not to mention the way Eraqus completely forbid him from leaving and never intented for him to ever see worlds outside the Land of Departure. Sure, Terra and Aqua aren't typically supposed to leave either, but at least they'd be allowed in certain situations. Ven wouldn't.

Ven isn't allowed to interact with anyone outside of home. He's not allowed anything that involves the outer worlds. (He and Naminé are a bit alike in that sense. Though at least the people he's stuck with are nice to Ven and do genuinely care for him, unlike Naminé...)

BBS happens largely because Eraqus failed as both a teacher and a parental figure to all of them, but Terra most of all.

Hold Them Close -DP*DC (12k words). I wrote the first chapter+Fanart. Danny escaped Vlad and his experiments with bb!Ellie, and flew straight up-up-and above. In the watchtower, our heroes sees a monster and (what they think is) a child in distress. Misunderstandings and whump, with the last quarter of the fic as comfort and fluff :)

Main serieses:

Sweet Dreams - (DC, 3 works, 1 complete. ~17k words). Reverse Robins + Badman verse (inspired by @byrambles fic). Batboy's younger brothers were taken by the Batman who defeated his father. Trying to protect them, he promise his loyalty to the newcomer. But even though he assure him he is perfectly trained, and can properly punish the kids to surrender, the man isn't impressed. In which there's Misunderstandings and sadness (first fic). The series deals with trauma and the ongoing issues it causes, and shows how it changes you. TW: Include suicidality+mention of kid's suicidality, flashbacks, mentioned past child sexual abuse, dissociations, Whump and angst with eventual comfort. I don't go in details about their past, but it's important to notice that the first 2 fics contains HEAVY (but non graphic) themes.

Liminal Skills for the Living Dead - also known as "therapy verse". DP x DC xover. AKA Anger Management! Fake dating for fun and profit. Hi! I'm Octopus, or at least that's what I go by on tumblr. I am just a silly creature lurking from the depths at other people's work.

I enjoy reading about recovery part of Whumpee's journey. Just something about Whumpee being safe but not believing it yet gets me. I also enjoy worldbuilding and thinking how different and how similar our world and BBU world would be. I have a lot of fun coming up with hypotetical arguments that sound coherent that in-universe BB/WRU supporters could make.

I don't write anything strictly in BBU, but I made "Pet Paper" that operates in all Pet Whump-adjacent worlds. I'm happy with how people joined in writing articles for it.

This is BB and Casper. They're our boys. Like brothers they roughhouse and bicker and ultimately love each other. They are also very lucky to be safe and sound!

Last Friday, the shed right next to their enclosure caught fire. We were all inside at the time. A neighbor we didn't know helped contain the fire early by calling 911 and bringing over her hose when ours melted.

Then the fire department came and rushed us off the property. We only had time to secure the cats already in the house. When they finally let us back in, we found BB and Casper hiding in the enclosure behind an old mattress - scared, but safe.

We should have had cat carriers ready to evacuate all of them, but this was all totally new to us. So my first PSA is to make sure you have carriers or leashes for all of your pets. Here's a useful link to read about pet disaster preparedness.

Here's the second PSA. Despite the heat of summer, do not use an extension cord to hook up an air conditioner.

That's how our shed caught on fire. My cousin did the same thing and melted his extension cord. If you do try this, do your research first, and at least make sure the amperage of the cord matches with the amperage of the air conditioner.

Here's a link for that research. And here's a news segment that talks about how common it is for this mistake to lead to fires (and a few ways to prevent it).

We owe so much to our neighbor, the fire department, and really the whole street that came out to watch and support us while we waited for the fire department to do their thing. I cannot express how eternally grateful I am that the fire only burned a small area, and everyone, including BB and Casper, is safe and happy.

some facts about my bb girl in this verse

🎡 She did gain more weight in this verse — simply because she feels safer and happier. V soft. It makes her feel a bit more self conscious, but she knows it’s a good thing. You know, not spending your days eating fucking drugs and alcohol.

🎡 Speaking of that, she’s on the road to recovery too. Betty attempts to cut down drastically on her drug and alcohol abuse. Which is significantly hard as fuck because again, that’s all she had for YEARS.

🎡 Genuinely smiles. Lets her hair grow out. Laughs like there’s no tomorrow. She’s happy in the Lust ring. The afterlife is finally starting to look like her own personal Heaven and even the Gods can’t take that away from her now since they casted her down to Hell in order to stop the cycle of immortality. This is her last pit stop — and she adores it. Considers it a reincarnation rather than a respawn.

🎡 Val’s pheromones are still in her body — which means the bloodshot eyes still exist. Unfortunately, that’s going to take a WHILE to fully leave her system. She just has to deal with leaking venom frequently until the last bit is drained out of her body.

warning: dis fluffy, it's real cute. you wear joel's shirt and he loves it on you. you're a little bit of a menace, he loves it honestly.

A/N: this is part of my 500 followers celebration running until 9/9 ♡

You love mornings like this.  The way the sun hits your living room just right, the coffee in your hand.  The man on your couch.  All of it.  It felt like a dream now that you were with Joel, now that things were official.

There were very few things about Joel that you didn’t like.  But most of all you loved that he treated you differently than he treated everyone else.  The way he was a little leery around everyone except for you – you always made his features soften, his shoulders relax, all just by being yourself.  This morning was no different.  You both fight yawns, and the birds chirped their songs out the window.

When you bring a sip of coffee to your mouth, you miss in your stupor, getting coffee down the front of you.  At first it stings, but then it leaves the fabric to cling to your chest – a splotchy mark over the fabric.  You pull it away to give yourself some recovery, but you both end up laughing about it.

“Alright, clumsy,” you hear Joel drawl out, your giggles soon replaced with wolf whistles when he takes off his shirt.

“Magic Mike’s very own!” you’re in stitches at his expense when he tosses the baggy tee to let it land right atop of your head.

“See if I ever help you again,” he mutters, but you know he’s grinning – even if you can’t see it.

“You gotta look away,” you apprise, placing your coffee cup on the table and you raise your eyebrows in wait when he denies your request – once you peek out from the shirt.  “I’m not doing that,” as if you’re making him miss a dire opportunity to see god herself and you hide your face beneath his t-shirt for a brief moment.

“Quit that,” you mumble, smiling sheepishly at the shirtless man on your couch before slipping your shirt off – leaving your chest bare to match his own before his t-shirt, all too big for you and with the sweetest softness, graces your shoulders.

“Damn, baby,” and you can see that grin now, effervescent as it tugs his cheeks, “you do look so good in my clothes.  Way better than I ever could.”

“You’re just buttering me up now,” you rub your cheek before going for his chest, fingers rolling through the hair of his chest. “I look better in all of your clothes?” you challenge and standing up, you go for his toolbelt that ended up on a counter from a project the night before.

“Nuh uh, put that down,” Joel sits up straighter, but you notice he doesn’t move – doesn’t really get you to stop and you wrap it around your waist, cinching his shirt so your waist looks insane yet so fucking goofy with the toolbelt and your shorts that barely cover the crease of your bottom.

“Y’look so dumb,” he jokes, but his face is solid.  It ain’t budging and that makes you smile harder.

“Don’t you smile,” you forewarn, but you know this old trick.  How you tell him not to do something and he’s so stubborn he’ll do the opposite – even at his own expense.

It shows up when a toothy smile expands and he shakes his head, taking a swig of the bitter and hot liquid.

“Girl, just get that thing off and love me already.”

“Yes sir!” you strip it off – first arbitrarily, then carefully you drape it over the couch when Joel flashes a look of worry and warning before placing his own cup down because you are tiptoeing to crash right on top of him in no time.

You purr at the feeling of his broad hands at your ass, keeping you in place as he peppers kisses over your face.  “You’re weird,” he noses at your forehead, and you nip the weathered skin of his throat with satisfaction.

“I keep things interesting.”

“Weird.”

“You love it, don’t you?  It’s okay to admit it.”

Joel stifles that grin again, his arms wrapping around you and you bury your face in his scent, his warmth greeting you.

“Yeah, yeah.  I do.”

“I do, too.  You, I mean.”

You yawn again in the lazy quiet and you both drift off.  His shirt feels so gentle against your skin, and it smells like him.

Weak Yen Currency Drives A Surge In Luxury Shopping Among Tourists In Japan - Skywire London

Many a high-end brand has been seeing strong sales in Japan lately. However, this is not quite the unequivocal cause for celebration that some observers might initially imagine it to be. 

As recently reported by Yahoo! Finance, tourists have been heading to Japan in big numbers with a particular goal on their minds: splurging on desirable clothes and handbags at prices somewhat lower than those to which they are accustomed back home.

An unexpected growth driver for the Japanese Government – but luxury brands aren’t so happy  

During June, the east Asian country attracted a record 3.1 million foreign visitors, according to official data. This has put the state on track to exceed an annual record of nearly 32 million visitors from other countries set in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic halting global travel. 

The Japanese Government anticipates that tourists in the country will spend some eight trillion yen (around $54.74 billion) during 2024. This would be a significant fillip for a state where the ageing population has meant a relative lack of other growth drivers. 

However, the situation presents a headache to global luxury brands. Such a discrepancy in their goods’ pricing between Japan and elsewhere in the world has arisen due to a weak yen, the currency’s recent sell-off having caused it to reach a 38-year low against the US dollar before recovering ground. 

A challenging dilemma for luxury brands with a Japanese presence 

Shoppers from Asia and beyond have cottoned onto the news of these prestige brands’ products often being cheaper in dollar terms in Japan than elsewhere, which has fuelled a tourist boom. 

However, the brands themselves are taking hits to their profits as a result – and the volatility of the yen makes it tricky for them to put up the prices of their designer products to accurately reflect the currency. It seems that many brands, then, are forced to make do with lower margins in Japan, at least while they hope for a greater recovery for the yen. 

The Yahoo! Finance report cited the example of Louis Vuitton’s Alma BB handbag, which it said was priced at 14,800 yuan in China – the equivalent of $2,050. The same item was available in Japan for 279,400 yen, which worked out as $1,875. 

The sales of luxury spirits in Japan were also being fuelled with the help of tourists, according to French drinks maker Rémy Cointreau. The group’s CFO, Luca Marotta, stated on its first-quarter earnings call that lower margins were being seen on sales in the country. 

Also cited in the report was the Switzerland-based luxury goods holding company, Richemont, which counts the likes of Cartier, Net-a-Porter, and Montblanc among its brands. The firm said there had been a nearly 60% rise in its Japan sales during 2024’s first quarter, with Chinese, Southeast Asian, and American tourists all contributing to this.

hi bub, im the friendship breakup anon again im sorry i keep coming up omg u can totally ignore this but i feel like sharing this with u … ive just found out why everything happened why they distanced and tried to turn everyone against me today. they have been yapping nonsense and making up all these bad things about me for these past few months and of course i have noticed, but ive just found out a lot of new things today. they said i was too much when i asked them for help during my relationship troubles, they said i was ungrateful, that i had the worst attitude. i doubted myself to the point where i asked some people around me if thats true. one time they brought my family member up, talking shit about my mom as well as me and thats the breaking point. i no longer want any connections with them nor will i ever give them a chance in the future. i couldnt be happier with my current and honest friends who told me all this, and im so fucking glad the 3 years worth of friendship went down the drain. if youre reading this thank u so much hannah, for bearing with me <3

i’m so sorry they were doing those things :(( it’s rlly unfortunate that it’s been dragged out this long and they feel the need to still shit on u. imo if someone can’t let something go & they have to keep talking ab someone behind their back it’s usually a hugeee indicator of them being in the wrong — coming from personal experience lol cuz i get told all the time by other friends that one of my ex bsfs still posts ab me publicly and airs out allll my dirty laundry and private business (not that i care but it’s rlly embarrassing for her 💀).

it’s horrible that they made u doubt urself & once again from personal experience i can attest to the fact that they’re probably just bitter and you are none of the things they describe you to be, i’ve been gaslit into thinking similar things before and you have to remember to keep surrounding yourself w ppl who truly care & know to remind you you’re never all the negative things they keep saying u are. if they were real friends they should’ve helped you through relationship troubles regardless of what they thought of them, and should’ve been there to support you without a second thought.

i’m so glad you know your worth, and again i’m truly happy you’ve found other ppl to be there for you. sometimes friendships just aren’t meant to be and honestly there are some rlly fucked up, cruel ppl in the world who’d be able to disregard years of close relationships just cuz they’re bitter — i personally choose to view these kind of experiences as lessons & be thankful for the new start i get after they’re over <3.
