It’s so eerie that Marilyn’s JFK birthday ceremony predicted her own death months before it happened
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marilyn Monroe performing at at John F. Kennedy’s birthday celebration in New York City, May 19th, 1962. There were roughly fifteen thousand people who appeared at what doubled as a benefit for the Democratic National Committee deficit from the 1960 campaign. Tickets ranged from $100 — $1,000. Aside from Marilyn, other performers included Ella Fitzgerald, Maria Callas, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Peggy Lee, Henry Fonda, Harry Belafonte, Mike Nichols, Elaine May and Mike Nichols, plus several, several more. Marilyn arrived nearly forty-five minutes late, to which Peter Lawford jokingly introduced her as “The late Marilyn Monroe…” An eerie statement seeing as she would be found dead only three months later. Beautifully, she took the stage and performed “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” and “Thanks for the Memories.” “I was worried I’d get up there and nothing would come out,” she told Richard Meryman during her Life interview a couple of months later. She was escorted by her former father-in-law, Isidore Miller, whom she had grown very close with during her marriage to Arthur. She spent almost the entire night at his side and made sure to introduce her to Kennedy.

Happy Birthday Chuck Grant!!!
Charles Ensworth Grant was born March 1, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the son of Francis Bingham Grant and Katharine Willis Grant Francis was a veteran who served in the cavalry and sold furniture. Katharine's family traces back to New England and her family moved west to California around the same time the Grants did. In the 40s Chuck would have her sister, his Aunt Elizabeth Willis Knapp and her family across the street from him as well as Grandma Willis who would move in with his parents later on. Katharine's brother Edward would live close by in West LA as well.
Chuck may have graduated from University High School in 1940 but he didn't take his senior picture so it's difficult to verify. He worked as a gas station attendant before taking a job with Vega Aircraft. He also listed his address on his draft card as that of a friend's father, a friend who's wedding he would be in as part of the wedding party. Later another member of that party would accompany him to Las Vegas as witness for his own wedding in 1946.
He fought every campaign with Easy company, from Toccoa to Austria. He is described by his fellow soldiers:
-"Loved life. Loved women. Sharp as a tack" -Babe (also memories.)
-"Sunny, quiet, golden-haired boy from CA"- Webster
-"Sinewy physique, excellent combat record..easy going but all man. "- Christenson (memories)
Chuck was promoted to Corporal at the same time Ranney, Petty and Harris were demoted to privates in 1943. Chuck received a Purple Heart for being wounded in Holland (shot in the ass) and was awarded the Bronze Star. He more than likely had more.
On May 27, 1945 he is shot by Floyd Craver of Item Company. Speirs, Foley and Roe loaded him up and took him to Battalion HQ where a sloppily dressed Captain said he couldn't do anything for him, so they loaded him back up and took him to Saalbach where they knew there was a hospital. Jack Foley kept his affairs in order while he was in the hospital in Austria and wrote his parents, as did Don Malarkey. Chuck's parents wrote him back and thanked him. After the war he is discharged from Hammond General Hospital in Modesto, California on November 3, 1945.
On November 2, 1946 Chuck Grant married Norma Jean Darland(She gets her own post), a marine, in Las Vegas with his friends Keith and Doris Morgan to witness. He and Norma move to San Diego where she is a cashier at the Naval Training station and he does get some veteran assistance. He fills vending machines 5 hrs a week. They have two children, Dan Edward Grant and Charles E Grant, Jr. In Sept 1954, Norma commits suicide by overdose and Chuck finds her in their bedroom. He takes the kids to a friends and comes back to call the cops. He never remarries. By 1960 he is back in Los Angeles area where he stays until his death in his home on Bracken Street Arleta, CA on October 12, 1982.
Chuck was an active member and officer of the Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart and a co-founder of a chapter of the 101st Airborne Association in his area. He was present at most of the reunions. He visited members of Easy who were ill like C.T. Smith and went to Arlington for the dedication. He was voted to be the 506 representative in the 101st in 1980 and it was well deserved.
There is no evidence Chuck lived in San Francisco and he would have had to do it between 1956-1960 where he falls off the radar in my research. He is a disabled widower with two little boys, the common sense move is to go back to LA where he has family. The gentleman who owned Grant's Smoke Shop in San Francisco was Edward L. Grant who's parents were English immigrants and no relation to Chuck.(separate post).
Chuck struggled with partial paralysis but still was extremely dedicated to veterans, and Easy Company, and served years with vet organizations in the LA area. He appears to have never remarried, had one DUI, his stereo stolen twice.
Chuck appears in several photos besides Skip Muck (above), is included in the Niland story, and Hack Hansen was closest to him. He's not only the victim of what appears to be being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but not having a best friend who wanted to keep his memories alive and make sure he wasn't forgotten. He is way more than the guy who was shot in the head, but nobody was around to tell those stories to Ambrose.
Happy Birthday Chuck! And special thanks to my partner in research @noneedtoamputate who has been on this journey with me as we try to find out WHO was Chuck Grant besides 'the guy shot in the head'.
(under the cut- Dog Tags in possession of GMH. David Lowry's coveralls with Hack Hansen and Chuck Grant stenciled on them. Chuck from Easy Company photo at Fort Bragg. Chuck at a reunion which may be 1981 San Diego- from Winter's files. Also the write up from Christenson which seems to be were the tobacco and SF thing came from. 101st Airborne article and Bronze Start article).

song 35! candy (nct dream) + nishimura riki (spotify wrapped event)
honestly, today's the day, i’m gonna break up with you, i’m going to go see you, hope you'll understand
closest to a happy niki fic we’ll get i guess 😢 but happy birthday to the coolest guy on the planet (a year younger than me and still eating up my whole life’s achievements in one fancam) 🥳 requested by @sammm5225
Tumblr media
“I love you.”
Riki freezes. What. Why did I say that? Did I just say that?
He did, in fact, just say that, and his face flushes as yours does too.
“W-what?”
Well, he has to commit to it now. “I love you,” he repeats.
Your cheeks redden even further and he can’t help but feel his stomach flutter. “I love you too,” you say, and Riki knows he’s absolutely fucked.
Because there’s no way he just said that, not now, not the day when he was supposed to break up with you.
Nishimura Riki woke up this morning with a warm feeling in his chest. He felt different today. The sun was shining on his face and the air was crisp and he felt light as his feet touched down on the floor. It was a good day, as good a day as any, but something was different about it. He checked his phone and saw a text from you.
Y/N: hii are we still on for today??
Right. Your date at the park today. He felt a twinge of guilt. He totally forgot about that, if he was being honest. He realised now that he’s barely even thought of you the last few days. Was that why you were asking?
Part of him wanted to cancel, because at that moment, Riki just didn’t really want to be around you. Not that he dislikes you, but he thought he’d rather stay home and just chill while watching a movie, or go to the dance studio or play football with his friends.
Riki looked at himself in the mirror in his room. His eyes shifted to the polaroid stuck in the top left corner. It was a photo of the two of you. You’re both smiling and you have a peace sign up next to your face, while his arm is looped around you and his hand is pinching your cheek on the other side.
He smiled at it with some fondness, but even that wasn’t enough to stir his heart. Nishimura Riki is not the type to make impulse decisions. But he does like to base them off of the logistics, and the fact was that he didn’t think he felt anything for you anymore. He still cared about you for sure, and he hoped that you’d still talk sometimes, but the jig was up. The expiration date on your relationship had passed and he thought that today might be the day to throw it away.
He picked up his phone and sent a quick affirmative text. Short and sweet, but not enough to make you think he was super excited for it. Because he was not excited, of course! What kind of psycho would be excited to break up with someone?
“But it is a beautiful day,” he admitted to himself as he walked down the street. The park wasn’t too far from his house, and he wanted to enjoy the time to himself on this lovely walk. Then, as he walked under the shade of a tree, something dropped right in front of him. He looked down and saw a tiny puddle of white and green liquid, right in front of his shoe. Bird poop. Riki stared down in disbelief. Well, thank god it didn’t land on him. They say this is good luck anyway, or something like that.
He stepped over it with a wrinkled nose and continued to walk down the street with his hands in his jacket pockets. By the time he arrived at the park, he could already make out your figure waiting on a bench. You were wearing a parka and your nice jeans, and your hair was neatly styled, and Riki felt a little bad that you put so much effort in. He’d try and let you down easy, he thought.
“Hi Y/N.”
“Riki, hey!” you greeted him with a pretty smile and stand to meet him. When he approached, he felt a jolt of shock when you grab his hand and lean towards him. Before he could stop you, you’d kissed him square on the mouth. Something tickled at his heart and he blinked in surprise before regaining his composure. Okay, this is fine. You’re fine, Riki. Be normal.
“I- uh, do you wanna go get some ice cream?” he asked. Yes, back on track. He’d get a jump on the gun so once he’d broken up with you, you would already be equipped with some dessert to console you. Maybe that’d soften the blow.
“Sure,” you beamed.
Riki led the way to the ice cream truck. He ordered your favourite for you without thinking, and regretted it instantly when you gave his hand a squeeze and leaned into his side.
“Aw, you two make a cute couple,” said the ice cream vendor as he handed you the ice cream.
“Thank you,” you said back.
Yeah, thanks a lot, ice cream guy, Riki thought bitterly. This was not going to be easy. But he knew what he wanted, and he had to stay strong.
As the two of you made your way to a spot under the tree where you usually sit, he steeled himself. He could totally do this.
His ice cream was left untouched as you both sat on the grass and he looked at you happily eating away. Okay, here goes nothing.
“Hey Y/N? I need to talk to you about something.”
You looked a little surprised at his sombre tone but you nodded anyway. Riki’s heart was beating very fast and he’d starting to panic a little bit. Okay, a lot. God, I’m about to go into cardiac arrest. He could see the headlines now. Nishimura Riki dies of heart failure at 18.
He looked out at the park, the grass green, the sun shining above him. The sky was so clear, so beautiful, and his heart seemed to stop for a moment, almost as if being rebooted before it started back up at a mostly normal pace. Something shifted inside him and he wasn’t sure what it was, but he was turning and looking at you and suddenly you looked like the most beautiful person in the world.
Your eyes were wide and glistening like some sort of anime character and your lips looked so pink and kissable, and now his mouth was opening before he’d even realised it.
“I love you.”
“W-what?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
He’s speechless. You’re blushing and he can feel himself doing the same. Well, he messed that up. But it’s okay. He can work with this. Nishimura Riki swears he will never leave your side again. That’s a promise.

Today is Marilyn’s 97th birthday too! So happy Birthday to the Queen of our hearts 💗💗💗💗 She’s touched so many hearts and had such a lasting impact on the world. I wish she was still with us and that I could tell her personally what she means to me. 💗 Happy birthday Momma M 🥰🥹💋
when I saw what a lovely idea @tinuvielsblog had with sending you a Marilyn gif during this crazy gossiping time, well - I wanted to ask you about Marilyn Monroe, I’m wondering what got you interested in her? If you don’t mind my asking!
She was beautiful and I remember reading some articles on her - she did have some things to say worth remembering, too 💛 This one’s pretty famous? But a good one anyway - "Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."
She was a very interesting woman who had a big impact on pop culture and film! I always loved, as well, how she was admired for having a full figure - that’s such a healthy thing to be admired for, I always felt! Just wanted to change the subject for you a little through this message, if that’s okay ✌️
Oh my gosh, yes. 🥹 Marilyn, my beloved!! ❤️ God, where do I begin? I absolutely adore her! I admire her talent, her beauty, her strength, everything about her. She has a very special place in my heart when it comes to my favourite actresses, old Hollywood and just as an amazing woman herself.
I miss her so, so much. She was more than just a pretty face and she went through so much. She’s absolutely one of a kind and gone way too soon. Marilyn deserved better and she still does—she deserves better than films like Blonde that make shit up and try to tarnish the truth.
I’m on the lookout for accurate and truthful books and documentaries about her so I can learn and understand more about Marilyn’s life. ❤️
I personally believe she was killed, and I’m not big on conspiracy theories and all that but that’s what I do believe.
I know I obviously wasn’t born/around in her era but when I watch her films, see her pictures, etc, I feel such an immense nostalgia. I would have to say only she and Marlon Brando have made me feel that way before. I love both of them very much and it’s all the more amazing to know they knew and liked each other! ☺️❤️

Rest in peace forever, Marilyn. ❤️
