“Do you feel old?” You ask Jude, your voice hoarse from performing multiple songs back to back on the garish karaoke machine his mum had rented out for the occasion. There are now at least a dozen badly shot videos of you singing in Jude’s camera roll, including a rendition of ‘happy birthday’ sung by you and his brother where half his index finger is covering the lens.
“What’d you mean?” After hours of displaying nothing but rash energy, Jude finally feels himself getting sluggish while trying to endure the unbearable gnawing feeling of pins and needles rising up his legs; a big plush sofa sits untouched on the other side of the living room but you’ve both decided to drunkenly cram yourselves onto the armchair in a mess of tangled limbs.
“Just a silly question.” As you flutter your eyes shut, Jude tries to get a proper look at the glitter eyeshadow you had meticulously applied earlier that evening. In the wake of a large round of tequila shots, some of his friends had insisted on having their own ‘sparkle stuff’ and began queuing at the bathroom door like kids waiting to get their face painted like a tiger at the zoo. “Do you feel any older yet?”
“I’m not sure.” It’s the kind of question he’d once been asked in the primary school playground, with a blue birthday badge pinned proudly onto the fabric of his uniform. Back then it seemed very easy and obvious to answer plainly with a ‘no’, though now he’s finding himself stumped for a reply entirely. “Do you ever feel like that?”
“I think the last age I felt was seventeen.” You say definitively as if you've thought about it at great length before. Jude hadn’t known you at that age, but his home screen for almost a year was a photo your mum had shown him of you pulling a horrific face while blowing out the candles of your seventeenth birthday cake.
“That’s probably the same for me.” Embarrassingly, Jude had once referred to himself as a ‘seventeen-year-old’ during a frenzied post-match interview and then had to sheepishly correct himself by clarifying that he had just turned nineteen. Sometimes he feels like the years are slipping through his fingers like sand and there’s no sufficient way to stop them.
“Then before that it was twelve.” You continue as you do a little cat-like stretch with your free arm which Jude finds incredibly endearing along with everything else you do; he supposes it’s a very common side-effect when it comes to being in love.
“I found being twelve proper boring.” It was something he remembers expressing even at that age. Just as if he had been dropped off somewhere by his childhood and was painstakingly waiting for his teenage years to finally pick him up and take him somewhere exciting. “It’s such an in-between age.”
“That’s true.” The sky in the open window behind you is that awkward shade of grey that appears just before sunrise, like a page when a printer begins to suddenly run out of ink.
“I wish we’d known each other as kids.” Jude feels as though he goes through life with your name humming inside his chest like a second heart and yet this sentence seems so intimate that he can’t even look at you as speaks. Instead, he takes extra care and attention towards staring at the ceiling and inspecting all the sparse helium balloons that have floated up towards it.
“So do I.” Your words come out as a dozy whisper and Jude finds himself smiling up at a star-shaped foil balloon. He’s not twelve or seventeen, but he’s just turned twenty and loves you so much that he doesn’t even care that both of his legs have gone completely numb from sitting with you on this unbearably uncomfortable armchair.

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ strawberry lace
mdni, 18+ only
he’s always been cold on his birthdays, that much is a given. he expects the indoor parties and the alcohol blankets. he expects the raging hangovers the next day and the oily regret and the bitter realisation of one more year gone by; lingering in the air like the cold.
what he doesn’t expect is to wake up on the other side of the world.
the south side, that is.
he’s never been one for spontaneous travel—not one to throw caution to the wind and say fuck it! and all that jazz.
well, he wasn’t anyway. not before her.
alex is a planner. alex is careful. alex wants to vet things and carefully structure everything.
she does none of those things.
she’s a whirlwind of all things frazzled and exciting and chaotic. she’s everything he’s not; everything he wants to be.
and so when she begs and begs for a spontaneous birthday trip, (not for her birthday, it's for his birthday) he gives in for once.
he’s 38. he counts as a middle-aged man, alex is sure of it. and yet with her he wants to chase his youth again and again.
the morning of the fifth he wakes up in his own bed.
the morning of the sixth he wakes up in fiji.
what’s more is that he wakes up in an inexplicably pink, princess bedroom. there are balloons—so so many balloons! pink and white and silver and the foil ones that spell “HAPPY BIRTHDAY AL” on the wall in front of him. and the moment he moves an inch, she jumps on him and smothers him with kisses.
“there you are. i’ve been waiting!”
“waiting for?”
“for you to wake up!” she laughs. alex smiles in return and properly pulls her against him. “happy birthday, baby.”
her lips latch onto his, making him melt.
her entire body is warm—not the kind of warm that comes from being in front of the radiator. she’s sunshine warm, like she’s already been outside before he’s even ventured away from the land of the dreaming.
sleep makes his body melt into hers and alex happily nuzzles his face into her tits.
“what’s all this?”
“do you like it?” she asks and presses a kiss into his messy hair. “i could only find pink balloons at first so i just went with the theme.”
“‘s all very cute. just like you.”
alex presses a kiss on her collarbone and inhales the sent of her skin—sunshine and strawberries and vanilla. utterly sweet. once he’s started, there’s no way he can bring himself to stop tasting her skin, breathing her in. drinking in her soft sounds and shivers and relishing the feel of her fingers digging into his bicep.
alex hasn’t even properly opened his eyes yet and he knows he’s already in heaven.
“stay,” he murmurs and finds her lips.
she lightly runs her fingers along his stubbly jaw, all the way to the nape of his neck, sinking them into his hair. then her hand runs lower, gingerly raking her nails down his bare back, making him shiver in delight.
warmth coils in his stomach.
january is supposed to be cold and pine scented, it’s supposed to be stubborn remnants of christmas and bittersweet new years excitement. it’s never been warm, salty breeze and a sweet, sunshine girl in his arms.
“stay in bed with you all day?” she giggles and tries to kiss him again. alex lets her chase his mouth, then smugly pulls back at the last minute.
“stay and keep me warm.”
“you’re plenty warm!”
now that his eyes are properly open, he takes her in inch by inch—first the red of her lips and then down her jaw, her chin, her neck… she’s clad in a bikini top: white lace, printed strawberries, a bow tied at the back. before she can even object, alex pulls on the string and the knot comes undone.
“you’re like my little birthday gift, aren’t you? i get to unwrap all the layers.”
“mmm, is that what you’re doing now?”
her already red lip becomes redder when she bites on it and throws her leg over his so his knee hovers just below her cunt. one movement and he’ll have her shaking under him.
he takes his time though, time is what he has in abundance today.
alex feels his skin tingle, every press of her skin against his is electric—little sparks dancing in the barely-there space between them. her breaths comes out in quick pants and her eyes roam over him. over his face and then his chest that’s devoid of any clothes.
the only clothes he’s wearing are some cotton pyjamas. easy to discard.
the bikini top falls apart and there she is, right under him now, back arching so she can brush her chest against his. get any friction on her nipples really. goosebumps rise on her skin wherever his fingers touch.
“look at you,” alex breathes and swallows roughly. he feels a little drunk then, almost like he’s been intoxicated since the moment he woke up. “my beautiful, perfect girl,” alex hums.
his kisses turn feverish as his lips move along the hollow of her throat, her collarbone. the heat in his stomach intensifies, his hand comes to rest on the back of her neck. he’s often used this position to hold her in place, to stop her from squirming but this time his hold is gentle.
his mouth travels lower, ghostly kisses trailed down to her breast.
she mewls when his tongue circles around her nipples.
it doesn’t take another second before her legs are around his middle and his big hands are gripping her thighs. rough, calloused fingers digging into soft flesh while she tugs at the hair at the nape of his neck and makes him groan.
“oh, baby baby,” he breathes on her skin and lets her pull the pyjamas off him. “how am i supposed to let you go anywhere when you look like this.”
“don’t then,” she laughs.
her hands trace his spine and alex feels his cock twitch in his boxers. he needs to be inside her right now, needs to feel her walls clenching around him.
he also wants to taste her but they have all day for that.
“want to be inside you,” alex groans when he feels the wetness between her legs.
she tries to lightly grind onto his stomach, tries to get herself off even if it’s just a little bit.
fuck she’s beautiful, and he doesn’t want to was poetic but the sunlight streaming in through the windows and onto her skin makes her look utterly luminous.
as if in a daze, alex slides the waistband of her underwear off her hips and traces the exposed skin with his fingers. she moans something softly.
“i want you too, al. fuck! baby…”
they barely use their words after that. the room is far from silent though—it echoes with moans and sighs and the sound of her laughter when alex nips at her skin. it’s like a little rhythm—he bites softly and chases away the sting with a lick. he leaves a mark and then rewards her with a kiss.
she doesn’t resist him at all when her underwear joins the heap on the floor with the rest of their clothes.
his hang inches between her legs and finds her clit, fingers rubbing lazily over it, almost in circles, slow at first and growing faster until she’s squirming for more—more friction and more of him and this and ecstasy and alex knows whatever he’s doing isn’t enough but just this once he wants to hear her beg.
(oh, who is he kidding! he always wants to hear her beg and plead and show him how much she wants him.)
“stop being a tease,” she whines and he laughs at her desperation.
finally, alex decides to end this misery. for her and for him. the need is driving him insane too.
when the first thrust comes, slow and sensual—and without warning—her eyes roll back in her head. she whimpers something, curses softly and holds onto him, legs locking around him so she can take him in deeper.
“shit baby…” he moans too. she’s squeezing him so tight. all he feels is her wetness and warmth. all he feels is his cock stretching her open.
she closes her eyes and alex tuts. “open your eyes,” he nudges, “i want you to look at me when you cum.”
and so she obliges, looking him in the eye and moaning his name softly with each thrust, lifting her hips to meet his and grinding her clit on his stomach.
the pressure inside him builds with each thrust, his entire body feels charged and taut and a current runs right under his skin.
under him, she’s as electric as a live wire.
“look at what you do to me,” she moans and alex feels her thighs begin to tremble.
she must be close now, she’s certainly acting like it—nails scratching his back, teeth softly sinking into his shoulder so she doesn’t scream loud enough for everyone to hear. (if it weren’t mid morning, he would have liked to make her scream. alex mentally marks it for later tonight.)
her hips thrust upwards, trying and failing to match him. she’s erratic, almost manic. there’s no rhythm to her movements, only lust and desire and so much want for him that he feels a wave of it run through his whole body.
under him she shudders and cries out.
“al, baby… gonna cum, f-fuck!”
he’s about to speak, about to tell her to let go but she’s already there. her body goes tense as alex feels her squeeze around him, so fucking tight that it tips him over the edge.
alex thrusts into her as the orgasm hits him hard. ropes and ropes of his cum filling her up, spilling from the sides under the insides of her thighs are sticky and wet with slick. both their release combined dripping out of her.
alex can’t help but drip a finger in the mess they’ve made and bring it up to her mouth.
“taste us,” he says and shivers when she swirls her tongue around his fingers.
he doesn’t know how long it takes them to comes down from the high. all he knows is that they stay like that, bodies locked together, him on top of her, breathing her in. the strawberry scent of her body lotion has dulled a bit now, replaced by sex and sweat. he makes absolutely no move to pull out, only adjusts himself so his entire weight isn’t on top of her.
“happy birthday, al.” this time her voice comes out breathy and soft. it surrounds him, permeates through his skull and bounces around his brain.
birthday. yes. his birthday. that’s what they’re here for.
“mmm, thank you, darling. you’re my gift, aren’t you?” his mouth moves to hers again—another sultry, lazy kiss. another long minute passes. “the absolute best birthday gift i’ve ever had.”
“is that so?”
“would you like me to show you my gratitude?” alex smirks.
and then he moves again to position his mouth between her legs.

birthday
dealer! chris x reader
warnings: cursing, it’s kinda short
a/n: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY @fuckhim-fuckher-fuckyou
“chris! where are you taking me?” i asked, laughing.
his long fingers covered my eyes, leaving me to see nothing but darkness.
“you’ll see, baby” he spoke as his free hand found the small of my back, helping to guide me through my home.
when i first woke up this morning, chris seemed hellbent on getting me out of the house.
he asked me to pick up very specific items from the store, giving me a long list of things to shop for.
i tried not to take it personal, but it was hard not to when it felt like he was trying to get rid of me.
as soon as i got back, he had rushed to help me out of the car, covering my eyes eagerly.
once i realized that he had a surprise planned, i instantly perked up.
he took the bags from my hands, placing them down in the kitchen, before continuing to walk me through the house.
when we got to my bedroom, he removed his hands.
my eyes widened in surprise as i took everything in.
“chris, what the fuck? how did you do this? when did you get the balloons? how did you hide them? what-?” i asked in shock.
“don’t worry about that, ma. happy birthday” he said as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
“chris, you really didn’t have to do this” i spoke as i felt tears begin to prick at the corners of my eyes.
“i know, but i wanted to. you deserve it” he spoke into my neck.
i turned around to face him, holding his cheek in my hand.
“thank you” i whispered before placing my lips to his.
his hands ran up and down my waist as my lips moved against his slowly. his soft lips slid against mine perfectly, making me smile into the kiss.
after a little while, i pulled away for air. his lips chased after mine immediately, leaving a light peck to them.
i let out a sigh of content, and walked over to the bed, grabbing the box of chocolates.
“want one?” i asked as i opened them.
he nodded his head with a grin, making me laugh at his eagerness.
i unwrapped the gold foil before placing the chocolate in his mouth, then doing the same for myself.
“does this mean i bought all of that food for nothing?” i asked, remembering the groceries that we left in the kitchen.
“nope, we’re gonna bake stuff” he said. “i was gonna make you a bunch of stuff, but i’m terrible at it. so, i figured we could do it together”
“you’re too sweet, chris. i love you”
“i love you too ma. and i love seeing you happy” he said, pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“damn, i’ve turned you into a huge softie” i said, thinking about how different things were when i first started buying from him.
“yeah, just don’t tell anyone. you’re the only person who gets to see it”
“that’s fine by me” i said as i cuddled into his side.

Summary: It’s your birthday and Harry goes all out for it.
Pairing: Boyfriend Harry x Reader
Word count: 1,671
A/N: Thank you to the person who requested this, I had loads of fun writing it and hope you like it! Please feel free to send in any requests 💕
Today was your birthday. It also happened to be the start of Harry’s Wembley show’s.
You were heading down to London to spend it with your boyfriend Harry. He had the show of 4 in Wembley this evening, but he insisted you come down so he could spend time with you before it.
You got a cab from London Euston train station and made your way to the luxury 5 star hotel he was staying in. You texted Harry to let him know you were on your way, but he never texted you back.
Arriving at the hotel, you phoned him to ask which room he was staying in, it took him a while to answer and he sounded out of breath when he did.
“Hey!” He answered. “Hey, I’m at reception. What room are you in?” You spoke as you sat down in the reception area.
“Ehh give me 5 minutes and I’ll be down” he said, which made you grow a little suspicious.
“Can I not come up now?”
“5 minutes babe, I promise. Love you” he hung the phone up so quickly, you never got the chance to respond.
You sighed, just wanting to see Harry but you knew whatever he was doing must be important, so you waited, and waited. After 10 minutes of scrolling through Twitter, you heard the elevator doors open and saw Harry walking towards you, with the biggest smile on his face.
He walked towards you and you stood up “Hey” he said as he approached you. You smiled and he placed a hand on your neck, rubbing his thumb over your cheek.
His eyes were soft and never lost contact with yours until they slowly closed as he kissed you gently. It was a short kiss, but you were in public after all and you knew Harry didn’t like PDA all that much.
“You alright?” He smiled as you grabbed your bag, him taking your suitcase.
“Yeah, I’m good, you?” You asked.
“Better now” he smiled. He took you up to his hotel room and as soon as you walked in, you instantly realised why he had been stalling you.
Bright red rose petals in the shape of love hearts were sprinkled all over the floor and on the bed. There were big silver foil balloons that read “Happy Birthday” against the wall, a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses sitting on the table and lots of presents laid out on the bed.
You were completely overwhelmed “Oh Harry” you said, almost reduced to tears.
He came and hugged you from behind “Happy Birthday love” he said, placing small kisses on your neck as he wrapped his arms around you.
“I love it, Harry. I love you. Thank you”
You kissed for a while and having missed feeling his lips on yours for a few weeks, it felt so good to be back with him.
Eventually, Harry popped open the champagne and you lay on the bed for a while catching up on your lives.
“Wanna open your presents?” He asked and you nodded.
He grabbed them from the bottom of the bed and placed them in front of your lap.
Some were wrapped in pink paper with red hearts on them which he definitely didn’t wrap himself while others were in little gift bags.
“Open this one first” he said handing you an iconic orange Louis Vuitton gift bag. You smiled at him. He looked like a child on Christmas Day with a big grin on his face as he watched you open it.
You squealed when open untied the ribbon and realised what it was “You didn’t!” You exclaimed and Harry nodded his head.
“You’ve been looking at it for weeks, I couldn’t not get you it” he smiled as you pulled the gift out.
It was the OnTheGo MM Tote Bag in white and pink you had fallen in love with a few weeks and while you weren’t materialistic, you couldn’t help but fall in love with it when you first saw it.
“I love it, thank you so much” you said kissing him.
You opened the rest of your gifts which included a Tiffany necklace, a Chanel perfume, and a few other bits and bobs.
He ordered room service for lunch and you had a few glasses of Champaign to celebrate your birthday.
You knew he had to head to the stadium for 3 pm for rehearsal so before you knew it, Jeff was knocking on the door to tell Harry it was time to go.
Harry sighed and playfully rolled his eyes and you giggled. “Be down in a minute” he shouted to Jeff through the door.
“I’m sorry I have to work on your birthday love, it was already booked before I could change the dates” he said grabbing his bag from the sofa.
“Don’t be Harry, I love watching you play and I wouldn’t want to spend my birthday any other way” you said as you pecked his cheek.
“Let’s go” he smiled and took your hand down to the car that was waiting for him.
The ride to Wembley Stadium took only 20 minutes from the hotel and before you knew it, you were walking backstage, hand in hand with Harry.
You greeted some of Harry’s tour entourage like Lloyd and Pauli who wished you a happy birthday.
You eventually made it to Harry’s dressing room where you found Harry Lambert ironing his outfit for tonight.
“Hey lovers” he said looking up at you holding hands and you laughed.
“Hey, you good?” Harry asked him as he brought him in for a hug.
“Yeah I’m good thanks, how have you two been keeping?” Harry L asked as he then hugged you.
“Good! It’s this one’s birthday today so brought her to work with me so she can fetch me cups of tea when I need them” he joked as he pulled you into a side hug.
“If anything that’s you who should be running around after me!” You laughed at Harry
“You don’t look a day over 40 Y/N” Harry L joked with you while Harry almost pissed himself laughing at you.
“I’m kidding, happy birthday”
“Thanks, now that I’ve been called an old maid, I’m away to catering” you said exiting the room to go find a snack as Harry could be here laughing from the room at your reaction.
You found catering, got a snack, caught up with some of Harry’s team members and made your way to the side of the stage where you could hear Harry rehearsing for tonight.
You looked out to the empty stadium and took in the enormity of the venue.
You felt an overwhelming feeling of pride and that was without any fans, what would it be like tonight with 90,000 people singing back his lyrics. You beamed as you watched him dance around in his floral print yellow Gucci tracksuit.
He soon finished and came off stage “What did the oldie think of it?” He teased you
“Any more of that and you’re sleeping on your own tonight,” you told him and he laughed.
“But it was great, I don’t know how you don’t shit yourself every time you go out on stage. It looks terrifying”
“It doesn’t get any easier, I still feel like I’m gonna shit myself before a Wembley show” he laughed as you headed back to his dressing room.
On the way, he had to stop for the toilet but insisted you waited on him before going to his dressing room. He was in there for a good 10 minutes before he came back out.
“Was that you shitting yourself in there?” You said, sarcasm in your voice “Yeah I was, let’s go” he put his arm around you and headed back.
You walked the few steps to his dressing room and opened the door.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N!!”
You were in complete shock, the whole of Harry’s crew, the whole love band, his touring managers, his mum & Gemma were all in the room, some holding birthday balloons, others letting off party poppers and Lloyd and Harry Lambert were holding a giant birthday cake with lots of photos from different periods throughout your life on it with candles.
“Oh my god guys!” You said, completely overwhelmed at the gesture.
“H wanted to surprise you, so surprise!” Jeff said and you turned round to see Harry with the cheesiest grin on his face.
“That’s why you were stalling me?”
“Maybeee” he said and you laughed and hugged him.
“Thank you so much, guys! I can’t believe it! Who wants cake?!”
After cutting the cake and celebrating your birthday with Harry, there were just 15 minutes until he was due on stage. You kissed him, wished him good luck and headed out to the crowd with Jeff and Tommy as well as Gemma and Anne to watch the show.
When he came on stage, you could tell he was in a good mood, he played medicine, fine line, helped some fans come out and played Kiwi twice at the end of the encore. Seeing him on stage was the best present you’d ever received.
Towards the end of Kiwi, you headed backstage to Harry’s dressing room and started packing up his things so you could leave as soon as he came off stage. You made your way to the taxi that was ready to take you back to the hotel and waited for Harry.
You saw him run towards the taxi, pulling his t-shirt over his head and he got into the car all hot and sweaty and very out of breath.
“You went hard out there didn’t you” you laughed as he kissed you, sweat dripping from his forehead.
“Hard for you” he smirked as he breathed heavily while kissing you and raising an eyebrow.
He sat across from you and you talked about how the show went but that whole 20 minutes with you scanning Harry’s naked torso was torture.
When you got to the hotel, Harry didn’t even bother taking a shower before giving you an extra special birthday present in bed.
You couldn’t have asked for a better birthday.

Happy International Florence Pugh Day to those of us who observe! lol. Here’s how Kate and Yelena’s first birthday together in MAU goes down. All thanks to Ri being a snooping nightmare. You guys wanted early relationship? Here is 4.1k of pure early relationship domesticity/fluff.
///
Kate raps her knuckles thrice against the dark walnut door. She is speedily compelled to bite back a smile when she hears the over-the-top, disgruntled groan from somewhere on the other side.
“Knock again, mommy.”
“Pretty sure she heard us.”
Yelena swings the door open to find the now familiar sight. Since Yelena moved into this temporary rental, every time there’s been a knock on that door, one or both of the women currently standing across from her has been responsible. Yelena is even more dumbfounded than usual because the regular visitors have arrived with props…and treats. Ereka is wearing a party hat and holding a foil balloon with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written in bold, colorful letters and Kate is holding a single cupcake with a lit candle in the center.
“Happy Birthday, Yelena.”
Yelena furrows her brow.
“How do you know it’s my birthday?”
“You told Ereka.”
“I didn’t tell her anything.”
“You told me she told you.” Kate peeks down at Ereka, perplexed.
“Mommy taught me how to read her birthday on her driving card. It’s month. Then day. Then year. Yours said zero eight, then one six. August is month eight and today is day one six. It’s your birthday.”
Yelena is only further flabbergasted.
“When did you see my driver’s license?”
“YOU FOUND OUT BECAUSE YOU SAW HER LICENSE?! HOW?!”
“It was on the thing.” Ereka points at the side table by the couch where Yelena’s wallet sits next to her keys.
“You’re not supposed to be looking through people’s things!…She knows she’s not supposed to look through people’s things. I’m so sorry. She told me you told her.” Kate extends the cupcake. “You can still blow out your candle???”
“Make a wish! Make a wish! Make a wish!” Ereka chants, staring up at Yelena. Yelena tuts, begrudgingly leans forward, blows out the candle with contempt, and turns her back to them to step back into the apartment. “You forgot your cupcake!”
Yelena huffs, turns, extends her hand, snatches the cupcake from Kate’s hand, nods once as some sort of lame ‘thank you’, and moves to close the door yet again. Kate starts blurting out words to stop Yelena from doing so.
“Uhm…I don’t know if you know this, but grocery stores don’t really sell ONE cupcake. There’s five more where that came from, only two of us, and I need any excuse not to have my five-year-old eat more than one of them if I can avoid it. She won’t sleep if she has more than one.”
“Your daughter’s sugar consumption is not my responsibility, Kate.”
“They have sprinkles.” Ereka chimes in. When Yelena doesn’t immediately move, Ereka takes the initiative to step up, hold the woman’s hand, and pull on it. “Come on. I’ll tell mommy to open wine like she does when my aunts come over. They’re always happy after they drink wine. Mommy says adults only drink wine on big days and it’s your birthday. Can she have some wine with you, mommy?”
“I don’t need wine.”
Kate grins and laughs softly.
“You can have wine.”
“I’ll pass.”
“What are you doing that is so important that you can’t come over for a cupcake and a glass of wine?”
“I already have a cupcake…” Yelena lifts the one she’s holding. “…and I can buy my own wine.”
“What about the company? Can you buy that?” Kate fires back, peeved at Yelena’s animosity. “Sorry we bugged you.”
Yelena closes the door without adding a word. Kate and Ereka linger for a second, then step away and begin to head to their apartment.
“She’s not coming, mommy?”
“No, baby. Go grab one of those cupcakes. ONE! I’ll be right there.”
Ereka’s face lights up and she disappears into their place. Kate stomps back to Yelena’s door and pounds her fist on it.
“What?!”
“I’m not gonna beg or force you to hang out with my kid, but at least don’t be a fucking dick to her. Bare minimum.”
Kate storms off and slams her apartment door shut behind her while glaring directly at Yelena. Yelena slams hers in response.
—
Half an hour later, a knock. This time on Kate’s door. When Kate opens it, she finds Yelena looking borderline painfully contrite, awkwardly shifting her weight between her feet, and mumbling to herself.
“I wasn’t sure if there would be any cupcakes left, so I went to the bodega. They didn’t have cupcakes, but they had empanadas, so I said…close enough. And…” Yelena lifts the bottle she’s holding. “It’s bodega wine, so I’m sure it tastes like vinegar, but it’s the best I could do on short notice.” Kate doesn’t respond. “Look, I like the kid. I don’t know why but I like her. I didn’t mean to be a dick. Birthdays suck. I wasn’t in a good mood, but that’s not her fault. I get it if she’s asleep or she’s already had dinner or whatever, but…here…you can have these and…do whatever with them.”
Kate glares stoically for what feels like an eternity to Yelena.
“Hey, Ri...How many cupcakes do we have left?”
“Two!”
“I guess it’s a good thing we saved some, then.”
Yelena hears the pitter-patter of footsteps running to the door and within seconds, a head of blonde hair appears from behind Kate.
“YOU CAME!”
“Her bedtime was technically fifteen minutes ago, but she’s on a sugar high, so here we are.”
Kate takes a step back, welcoming Yelena inside for the first time.
“What did you bring?!”
“Nothing that you’re eating tonight. You already brushed your teeth.”
“And I can brush them again!”
“No, ma’am. You’re done for the night. Enough.”
“Do you see? She doesn’t feed me.”
“EREKA! I feed her just fine.”
Yelena surveys her surroundings keenly while Kate heads for the kitchen to get a wine opener and glasses and Ereka buzzes around the apartment, ranting at top speed and pointing at things.
Unlike Yelena’s rental, this apartment feels like a home. There are pictures of Kate and Ereka at all ages. There are silly children’s drawings on the fridge and toys on the floor. Yelena feels the warmth of family and love here. Yelena steps further into the living room and notices colorful multiplication and division flash card sets splayed out on the coffee table.
“Isn’t she five?”
“Yeah.”
“This is…”
“Second and third-grade level…yeah.”
“And she’s doing it for fun?”
Yelena thumbs through the cards as she falls back down on the couch.
“Uhum. Quiz her. She’ll love it.”
“I don’t want to…”
“It’s just asking her questions,” Kate urges her while pouring some of the bodega wine into a glass and sliding it over in her direction.
“Hey. Do you want to do some flashcards?”
“YEAH!” Ereka instantly dashes over to Yelena at the suggestion and settles on the floor across from her.
“Four times seven.”
After a few seconds of thought…
“Twenty-eight!”
“Eleven times two.”
“EASY! That’s one plus one twice. Twenty-two.”
Yelena glances over at Kate, who shrugs with a boastful smile.
“Twenty-four divided by three.”
Ereka seems to struggle somewhat with this one.
“You got it.” Kate cheers from the sidelines.
“You can do it. Twenty-four divided by three.”
“EIGHT!”
Yelena lifts her hand and Ereka high-fives it.
“Good job. Nice.”
“What’s in the bag?”
“Empanadas.”
“Can I have some?! Mommy, PLEASE?! PLEASE, MOMMY?!”
“Ri, you REALLY have to go to sleep. Look at the time. You’re going to be a nightmare in the morning.”
“One and then I’ll brush my teeth AGAIN and Yelena will read me a story and then I’ll go right to sleep.”
“Yelena doesn’t have to read you a story, Ri.”
“She’s a grown-up. Grown-ups can read. You can read, right?”
“I can.”
“Then she can read me my story, mommy.”
“What is with you tonight?” Kate scolds the girl forcing Yelena to smirk.
“If it’s okay with your mom and if you brush your teeth and promise to go to sleep right away and not be a nightmare in the morning…I will read you a story. How does that sound? Would that be okay, mom?”
Kate and Yelena lock eyes with each other for a beat too long. Kate nods.
“Yeah. Sure.”
Yelena hands one of the empanadas to Ereka, who instantly digs in.
“So good!”
She mumbles with her mouth full, making crumbs fall everywhere.
“Ri, honestly. Why are you behaving like I haven’t taught you manners? Mouth closed, no talking.”
“Sorry,” Ereka replies, doing the exact same thing again.
Yelena chuckles.
“She’s not usually this insane. It’s the sugar…Which could’ve been prevented had you come earlier.”
“I will trust you when you tell me she can’t have more than one cupcake next time.”
“Thank you.”
“OKAY. BRUSHING MY TEETH!”
Ereka stands and runs to the bathroom.
“How?” Yelena looks down at her empanada and she’s barely taken two bites. “She inhaled that?”
“She eats like her dad. One minute it’s there, then it isn’t. Between us, it’s kind of a little gross to watch them eat together. Reminds me of vacuums at full speed sucking food into their mouths.”
Yelena chuckles and Kate joins her.
“DONE! Ready for my story now!”
“Ereka Shepherd, you didn’t even run the water. Nice try. Brush your teeth!”
“UGH!…CAN YOU HEAR THE WATER NOW?!”
“I hear the water, but if I can also hear you talking, that means you’re not brushing, doesn’t it?” Yelena snickers. “Do you have nieces or nephews?” Yelena shakes her head. “Are you ever around kids?” Yelena shakes her head again. “Don’t take mine as the standard then. I promise they’re not all Mowgli over there. Some of them are normal, human kids.”
Yelena offers a half grin.
“Yours isn’t whiny and snotty and germy. I kind of like yours more than the rest I’ve seen.”
“HA! If I had a dollar for every time that kid has sneezed directly into my open mouth, up one of my nostrils, or into one of my eyeballs, I wouldn’t be a millionaire, but I could at least afford a lobster dinner for two. With wine. She’s plenty snotty and germy. And don’t get me started on the whiny.”
“Maybe I like her a little less then. I…don’t know what I would do if someone sneezed into my open mouth.”
“Catches you off guard the first time. You kinda roll with it after that. It’s all about…”
Ereka runs over, opens her mouth on Kate’s face, and then blows warm breath onto her. Kate is forced to turn her head away.
“Can you smell the clean?”
“Case in point…You and I are going to have a really serious conversation about manners tomorrow.” Kate wraps her arms around Erika’s waist and flings her over her shoulder. “You…are going to bed. No ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’ anymore.”
“YELENA HAS TO READ ME MY STORY!”
“You need to be in bed for that.” Kate retorts while hauling her daughter away. Yelena stays put while they disappear into the little girl’s bedroom. A few seconds later, Kate’s head pops out, staring at Yelena, baffled. “You sorta need to be in the room to read the story.”
“Sorry! I didn’t…I…Right.” Yelena takes another sip of her disgusting wine, leaves the glass behind, and double times to where Kate stands. She enters the bedroom, looks at Kate coyly, then half whispers. “I’ve never done this before?”
“Read?” Kate teases her.
Yelena grunts.
“This…bedtime thing. To a kid…I don’t know how it goes.”
“Alright. Bedtime for dummies: the crash course. That is the bed. That is the child that needs to go to sleep. This is the bookshelf. The child usually tells you what they’re in the mood for. Sometimes they let you pick. You can also give them choices. It’s all a very fluid situation. Once the book is picked, you read said book to the child until the child is asleep. Then your mission is to exit the room without waking the child. If you do all these things successfully every night, you reward yourself by having wine and snacks without the child asking you what you’re eating and if they can have some. That’s about it.”
“Okay.”
“Kid’s already in bed, so this is where you ask her what she wants you to read. We’re in progress with a few things because she sometimes decides to spice it up and start something new. This is the stack of things we’ve started and haven’t finished.”
“The Boxcar Children, The Complete Book Of The Flower Fairies, Harriet The Spy, The Tal…”
“Harriet the Spy!”
Yelena grabs the book from the stack and looks at Kate.
“Should be an earmarked page or bookmark in there somewhere.” Yelena finds the mark indicating where they left off but still looks up at Kate, stumped. “...Now you sit over there and read it to her.”
“On her bed?”
“That is usually what tends to happen during ‘bedtime’, yes.” Kate takes a beat. “Hey, you don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“No…I just…didn’t want to be weird.”
Kate hangs her head back laughing.
“I appreciate that, but I’m standing right here. You can sit at the foot of the bed if that feels better. It’s fine.”
“Is it cool if I sit over here?”
Yelena asks Ereka while pointing to the spot by her feet and the little girl nods enthusiastically. Yelena takes a seat and cracks the book as Kate walks over to the little girl and places a gentle kiss on her forehead.
“Good night. I love you.”
“Night, Mommy. Night, Yelena.”
“Good night, kid.”
Kate retreats, leans against the bookshelf, and watches as Yelena begins to read.
—
About forty-five minutes later, Kate and Yelena sneak out of the room.
“She really made you work for that. She’s usually snoring her little heart out in ten minutes.”
“It must be the horrible, raspy voice. Stuff of nightmares. Kept the poor kid awake.”
Kate laughs.
“Solid running theory.”
“I should get going.”
“There’s still plenty of wine left. Can’t make me throw away top-shelf bodega wine. That would be criminal.”
Yelena studies Kate’s face, smiles, and nods wordlessly. They return to their old places on the couch and begin to eat the remaining empanadas in silence, albeit not an awkward silence. Once she’s done with her share, Kate washes them down with a big gulp of wine that ostensibly emboldens her to ask the question that’s been on her mind all night.
“Why do birthdays suck?”
Yelena shakes her head and takes a sip.
“Some people just hate birthdays.”
“And all those people have a reason for it, whether they want to admit it or not.”
“Why would I admit mine to you?”
“Because you have nothing to lose. I’m just a random stranger you met before moving to the other side of the world in a few months and never seeing me again.”
Yelena ponders for a long moment. Kate notices the exact instant Yelena decides to share because her entire body language changes. She stiffens up even more than usual.
“There was a woman…her name was Melina. She wasn’t my mom, but she was with my father since before I can remember. My real mom was never in the picture and Melina stepped up. She didn’t have to, but she did. She always made a big deal about my birthdays.” Yelena breaks out into a thick Russian accent. “‘You get to be more than princess; you get to be queen for day’, she would say. My word was law. Within reason. I once tried to ask if I could ride a zebra and that obviously didn’t happen. But most everything else did.”
Yelena sits in silence for a while and Kate doesn’t press her.
“She was just walking home. It’s so stupid. She was coming home with groceries and some monster wanted her. And he took her from us. I read the court transcript files a few years ago. When he was on the stand, the lead detectives said it was ‘one of the most horrid crime scenes’ he’d ever step into in his twenty-year career.”
Kate reaches out and places her hand atop Yelena’s.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I hope they caught that guy and he’s paying for what he did to you and your family.”
Yelena chuckles, not out of humor but irony. She locks eyes with Kate and, in the most casual manner says.
“He’s dead. My dad found him before the police did and killed him, then turned himself in. My parents brought me over from Russia and there was no one else, so…I went into the system. But I’m not some horror story. I didn’t get bounced around or abused. I lived with one foster family the entire time and they were great. They were fine, decent human beings. They had another foster. She was older and also Russian. We got close. Really close. Wouldn’t leave each other’s sides. I even followed her to school in California. We did our undergrads there. Natasha decided she wanted to stay on the West Coast so I applied to law schools there too and chose to go to Stanford. My second week there, I get a call. She was out riding her bike. Some guy’s breaks failed and he smashed his SUV into her at 125MPH. She probably didn’t even see it coming. I didn’t go home for the funeral. Haven’t really talked to the Rushmans ever since. Not much to say, I don’t think. But ending up with people like them was the one thing I can say was good about this entire situation.”
“Yelena, I’m…”
“I’m sure you’re stressing, trying to find ‘the right things to say’. You don’t have to. People have run the gamut and it always goes off the rails eventually, no matter how well-intentioned, so I’ll let you off the hook. You don’t have to say anything.”
“I’m really…”
“I’m telling you, leave it while you’re ahead. Trust me.”
“Okay.” After they sit in silence for a moment, Kate looks up at Yelena and asks. “Have you been queen yet today?”
“What?”
“Have you asked for anything yet? You get to be queen. What do you want? It’s your day and it’s not over yet.”
“No.”
“I don’t even know how old you’re turning.”
Yelena sighs.
“Thirty.”
“THIRTY!” Kate grimaces when she realizes she screamed a bit too loud. They freeze, but when no sound comes from Ereka’s room, they relax anew. Kate scream whispers. “THIRTY?! IT’S YOUR BIG DIRTY THIRTY AND YOU’RE SPENDING IT IN MY LIVING ROOM DRINKING BODEGA WINE?! WHY?!”
“Birthdays suck. We already went over this.”
“No. I can’t allow this. Not in good conscience. There are obvious limitations to what wishes I can grant, but…be queen. Go. Ask me for something I can do that won’t require abandoning my sleeping five year old and I will do it.”
“You are a weird woman, Kate Bishop.”
“That’s a statement, not a request.”
“I have no wishes or requests. I’m fresh out.”
“There has to be SOMETHING I can do for you that will make you even remotely happy.”
Yelena cocks her eyebrow.
“I don’t think that sounded right.”
Yelena laughs and sips her wine.
“You said it.”
“Think. I’m not letting you walk out of here without fulfilling your duties as birthday queen.”
Yelena grunts.
“You’re very pushy.”
“Indeed.”
Yelena leans back on the couch and scans the apartment, trying to find something, anything she can offer up to satisfy Kate. Making her way through the kitchen counters, she spots a box of pasta and a smile creeps up on her face.
“Mac and Cheese. It was my favorite thing when I was little. I used to ask for it all the time. Melina made the best. I haven’t had some in a long time…A long time.”
Kate springs to her feet and races to the kitchen while talking and opening cupboards.
“Well, you…birthday queen…are in luck because my kid is a mac and cheese FIEND and I only do the boxed shit in a pickle, so I happen to have everything I need to make all of your mac and cheese dreams come true. From scratch. Like the gods intended. Not the pasta. I’m not making you fresh pasta at…” Kate looks over her shoulder to the microwave. “...11:37pm. That’ll be next time. But the cheese sauce? That I can blow your mind with. And don’t think I won’t bake it to get a crunchy crust on it. You might leave this apartment at 3am, but it’s your birthday and I don’t care. You can nap while I work if you have to.”
Yelena laughs.
“Boxed will do just fine.”
“Aht-aht. You’re going to sit there and you’re going to wait until I give you your birthday wish…I do need you to do one thing for me.”
“What?”
“We’re going to need more wine.” Their eyes lock and they smirk. “Alcohol is on that top cabinet over there. Child lock is easier than it looks. They want kids to think it’s hard, so they give up before trying.”
“You childproof your top cabinets.”
“You wouldn’t believe the places I’ve found that kid after I’ve turned my back for five literal seconds. I have some vintage bottles in there. It’s more about protecting them from her than vice versa.”
Yelena smiles.
“What do you want?”
Kate stops to think.
“I should have a bottle of Chablis in there. Pull that down. We’ll drink that with the actual mac. It’ll pair well with the cheese. That’ll be the eating wine. For now, just grab any Pinot in there. They’re all good.”
“Two bottles?”
“You got anywhere else you need to be? Because this is gonna take a second.”
Yelena shakes her, brings down the second bottle of wine, then locks the cabinet again.
“Do you need anything?”
“I do, actually. I need you to sit down, open that wine, and drink.” Yelena nods, perches herself on one of the stools, and gets to work on the Pinot bottle. “So, you were born in Russia?”
“I was.”
They trade off asking each other questions about anything and everything and going off on tangents while Kate cooks.
—
Sometime well past 2AM, the pair sits at Kate’s dinner table, huffing out boiling pasta from their mouths as they eat directly from the sizzling ovenware because they couldn’t even be bothered with plates. They’re a little drunk on wine, high on exhaustion, and, whether they want to admit it or not…a little hooked on each other.
“Please don’t take this the wrong way because it is fucking delicious…but do you have hot sauce?”
Kate shakes her head with her mouth full.
“I’m very white. Can’t do spicy. You like spicy?”
“A lot. This would be kind of perfect with some hot sauce on it.”
“Noted…Ri loves spicy food too. She eats it with her dad all the time. His family orders Indian, Thai, and Chinese and it’s always super spicy. I couldn’t even be in the same room when they were all together and eating sometimes. Always asked them to bag my White Girl Bland food separately when we ordered take-out to keep it from getting contaminated with their toxic chili fumes.”
They both laugh.
“You don’t seem very ‘White Girl Bland’ to me.”
“Not in general…I’d like to think. Just when it comes to flames in my mouth. Love to avoid that feeling if at all possible.”
“Good to know…Do you need help washing up? It’s super late. I don’t want you to have to do dishes too.”
“No. No. My housekeeper is going to be here in…four hours.” They chuckle. “This apartment would look like a nuclear site if I didn’t have someone over three times a week to help with that. I can leave them.”
“I should go then.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
They sit there, silent and looking at each other while still sneaking bits of mac, for longer than they should’ve before Yelena finally musters up the will to stand. Kate follows her to the door.
“Happy Dirty Thirty.”
“As you can tell, I get super rowdy.”
“You’re a wild one. Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving.”
“Am I? All of those things?”
“At least two that I can count.”
“Which two?”
“You’re smart. I’ll let you lawyer that conclusion out.”
Kate tells Yelena before she smirks and closes the door on her, leaving a more than mildly smitten Russian standing on the other side.

any fo birthday thoughts to share with the class :3
this took so long ;_; I’m sorry
chiaya has a little party…I like to think about chihiro posing it to the class and the hijinks of them trying to pull it off. it’s beautiful in the way only homemade cake and crinkly plastic tablecloths and big foil balloons can be. sweet and simple and nostalgic. I don’t think they would would do the “hide and cheer surprise” thing because that kind of loud noise could very easily bring aya to tears but I bet chihiro had to persuade her to follow them blindfolded…into the room with her classmates happy faces and the messy pastel streamers and all the love she could ever want.
lukeyaya celebrates sweetly :) they spend all their birthdays together as children so they try to invoke the nostalgia. luke tries SO hard to make a cake for yaya and in luke fashion it goes wrong but she loves it anyways <3 I think luke would probably “break in” to yaya’s apartment to decorate and hide gifts around (he goes way too out when it comes to gifts. luke please we’re canonically the poorest) and they end the day cuddling with cozy video games :)
#>.> late birthday ask !!#I love making these types of posts….#✉️letters#♡ friend: dwyer#lukeyaya#chiaya#haruka

Animal Facts:
Orcas, also known as killer whales, have been inhabiting the world's oceans for around six million years.* Source: Georgia Strait Alliance
The orca's closest living relatives are hippos. The chevrotain, a small deer species, is a modern example of what their ancestor may have been like. It hides from predators by diving into water when threatened.*Source-CBC (Sidenote: totally wild to me that a deer-like species actually developed into an orca)
Orcas have a large and highly developed brain, particularly in areas related to cognition, problem-solving, and communication. They are able to learn and use complex hunting techniques, and they often work together to catch their prey. In addition, they have an advanced echolocation system that enables them to navigate and locate prey in the ocean with precision.*Source-American Oceans
It has been demonstrated that orcas possess a high level of self-awareness, as they have the ability to recognize themselves in mirrors. Moreover, they have a remarkable ability to solve problems and reason, as they can manipulate objects and solve puzzles competently.*Source-American Oceans
Orcas, also known as killer whales, possess a complex and sophisticated language that is unique to each pod. They employ dialects, which are local variations in vocalizations, to differentiate themselves from other pods. These dialects are acquired and transmitted from one generation to the next and can significantly differ between pods in different regions. Scientists have discovered that Orcas are capable of communicating with each other over long distances, spanning several miles apart. They also have the ability to utilize echolocation to locate prey and navigate their surroundings.*Source-American Oceans
Consumerist and Technological Facts:
Computer images fact:Doug Engelbart invented the first computer mouse in 1964, which was made of wood.*Source-GeeksforGeeks
Mac and cheese fact: James Hemings, the enslaved chef of Thomas Jefferson, popularized mac and cheese as we know it. There is an Amazon Prime documentary on this incredible chef titled, "James Hemings: Ghost in America’s Kitchen.”*Source-Today(I will be watching!!!!)
Lipstick Fact: In 1770, the British parliament passed a law that condemned the use of lipstick. The law stated that women who used lipstick to seduce men into marriage could be accused of witchcraft.*Source:Allure
Balloon Fact:Balloons were created for military communications, scientific experiments, and transportation. However, rubber balloons were not produced in the United States until 1907. Despite this, their popularity grew throughout the 20th century. The first commercial sausage balloons were manufactured in 1912, and in the late 1930s or early 1940s, Americans started twisting balloons to make animals. Another surge in recreational balloon use occurred in the 1970s with the introduction of foil balloons. Foil balloons are better at holding their shape than rubber balloons, making them ideal for conveying messages like "Happy birthday!" or "It's a boy!" The environmental impact of releasing balloons was not considered when I was younger and I certainly didn't know that their original purpose was function over fun.*Source:Slate
Tire Fact: Lego produces over 306 million miniature tires annually, making it the world's largest tire manufacturer.*Source:ContinentalTire
"Beetles are still being harvested today to produce the cochineal used by the cosmetics and food industries. It is found in everything from M&Ms to sausages, red velvet cupcakes to Cherry Coke (to soothe the squeamish it is usually hidden under the far more innocuous label E120) There are signs, however, that humanity's appetite for cochineal may finally be waning:in 2012 Starbucks abandoned it as the principal red food coloring in strawberry Frappuccinos and cake pops after an outcry from vegetarians and Muslims." (Pg 143, The Secret Lives of Color)
Attendance Prompt: I remember when Starbucks stopped using cochineal in 2012. Many people were disturbed to learn that beetles are in our food and drinks. As someone who grew up in the 90s and 2000s, the idea of consuming an insect has always grossed me out. However, I recently discovered that one of my favorite cocktails, the Negroni, usually contains crushed-up bugs to give it its vibrant red color. The more I reflect on my upbringing, the more I find it ironic that basic, ugg boot-wearing girlies like me were concerned about bugs in our red velvet cupcakes when so many of the cosmetics and foods we ate growing up were artificial, banned in other countries, and contained cancerous chemicals. While I understand vegetarians and Muslims not wanting to eat beetles, I feel like I can sip my beetle Negroni and still enjoy it.

Essential Party Decorations: A Comprehensive Guide
Throwing a memorable party requires careful planning and attention to detail, and one of the most critical aspects of any celebration is the decorations. Whether you're hosting a birthday bash, a wedding reception, a holiday gathering, or a casual get-together, the right decorations can set the tone and create a festive atmosphere. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the essential party decorations you need to make your event unforgettable. From balloons and banners to table settings and lighting, we've got you covered.
1. Balloons
Balloons are a staple of party decorations and come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. They are versatile, affordable, and can instantly add a festive touch to any event.
Types of Balloons
Latex Balloons: These are the most common type of balloons and are available in a wide range of colors and sizes. They can be filled with air or helium.
Foil Balloons: Also known as Mylar balloons, these are more durable than latex balloons and come in various shapes, including letters, numbers, and themed designs.
Confetti Balloons: These clear balloons are filled with colorful confetti, adding a fun and playful element to your decorations.
LED Balloons: These balloons have built-in LED lights, making them perfect for evening or nighttime events.
Balloon Arrangements
Balloon Bouquets: Grouping balloons together in bouquets can create a stunning visual impact. Use a mix of latex and foil balloons for added texture and interest.
Balloon Arches: Balloon arches are perfect for entryways, photo backdrops, or as a focal point for your party. They can be customized to match your party's color scheme.
Balloon Garlands: These are similar to balloon arches but are typically hung along walls or ceilings. They add a whimsical touch to any space.
2. Banners and Signs
Banners and signs are essential for conveying messages and adding a personalized touch to your party decorations.
Types of Banners
Happy Birthday Banners: These are a must-have for birthday parties and come in various styles, from classic to themed designs.
Custom Banners: Personalized banners with the guest of honor's name or a special message can make your event feel unique and tailored.
Themed Banners: For themed parties, choose banners that match the theme, such as "Congratulations" for graduations or "Welcome Baby" for baby showers.
Placement of Banners
Entryways: Hang a banner at the entrance to welcome guests and set the tone for the party.
Photo Backdrops: Use banners as part of a photo backdrop to create a designated area for taking pictures.
Above Dessert Tables: Placing a banner above the dessert or gift table can draw attention to these focal points.
3. Table Settings
Table settings play a crucial role in the overall look and feel of your party. They can range from simple and casual to elaborate and elegant, depending on the occasion.
Tablecloths and Runners
Tablecloths: Choose tablecloths that match your party's color scheme or theme. For a more formal look, opt for fabric tablecloths. For casual events, disposable tablecloths are convenient and easy to clean up.
Table Runners: Table runners add a decorative element to your tables and can be layered over tablecloths for added texture and interest.
Centerpieces
Floral Arrangements: Fresh flowers are a classic choice for centerpieces and can be customized to match your party's color scheme. Consider using seasonal flowers for a more cohesive look.
Candles: Candles add warmth and ambiance to your tables. Use a mix of pillar candles, votives, and tea lights for a layered effect.
Themed Centerpieces: For themed parties, create centerpieces that reflect the theme, such as beach-themed decorations for a summer party or pumpkins for a fall gathering.
Tableware
Plates and Utensils: Choose plates, utensils, and napkins that match your party's color scheme or theme. Disposable options are convenient for large gatherings, while reusable options are more eco-friendly.
Glassware: For formal events, use glassware that complements your table settings. For casual parties, consider using plastic or acrylic options.
4. Lighting
Lighting is a crucial element of party decorations that can significantly impact the atmosphere of your event.
Types of Lighting
String Lights: String lights are versatile and can be used both indoors and outdoors. They add a warm and inviting glow to any space.
Lanterns: Paper lanterns or metal lanterns with candles or LED lights create a cozy and festive ambiance.
Fairy Lights: These tiny, twinkling lights are perfect for adding a magical touch to your decorations. They can be draped over tables, wrapped around trees, or hung from ceilings.
Spotlights: Use spotlights to highlight specific areas, such as the dance floor, dessert table, or photo backdrop.
Lighting Tips
Dim the Lights: For evening events, dim the main lights and rely on string lights, candles, and lanterns to create a warm and intimate atmosphere.
Colorful Lights: For themed parties, consider using colored lights to enhance the theme. For example, use red and green lights for a Christmas party or pastel lights for a spring celebration.
Outdoor Lighting: If your party is outdoors, ensure you have adequate lighting for pathways, seating areas, and activity spaces.
5. Backdrops and Photo Booths
Creating a designated area for photos is a great way to encourage guests to capture memories and have fun.
Backdrops
Fabric Backdrops: Use fabric in your party's colors or patterns to create a simple yet effective backdrop. Hang the fabric from a curtain rod or attach it to a wall.
Balloon Backdrops: Create a backdrop using balloons in various colors and sizes. This can be a fun and eye-catching addition to your party.
Themed Backdrops: For themed parties, create a backdrop that reflects the theme, such as a tropical scene for a luau or a starry night for a space-themed party.
Photo Booth Props
Props: Provide a variety of props for guests to use in their photos, such as hats, glasses, signs, and themed accessories.
Frames: Create or purchase large frames that guests can hold up for a fun and interactive photo experience.
Instant Cameras: Set up an instant camera station where guests can take and keep their photos as a party favor.
6. Streamers and Garlands
Streamers and garlands are versatile decorations that can be used in various ways to add color and texture to your party.
Streamers
Crepe Paper Streamers: These are affordable and come in a wide range of colors. They can be twisted, draped, or hung in various patterns to create a festive look.
Metallic Streamers: Add a touch of glamour with metallic streamers in gold, silver, or other shiny colors.
Garlands
Paper Garlands: These can be made from paper cutouts in various shapes and colors. They are lightweight and easy to hang.
Fabric Garlands: Fabric garlands add a soft and elegant touch to your decorations. They can be made from ribbons, lace, or fabric strips.
Balloon Garlands: Create a garland using small balloons in your party's colors. This can be a fun and eye-catching addition to your decor.
7. Party Favors
Party favors are a thoughtful way to thank your guests for attending and provide them with a memento of the event.
Types of Party Favors
Edible Favors: Treats like cookies, candies, or small jars of honey or jam are always a hit. Package them in cute containers or bags that match your party's theme.
Personalized Favors: Items like keychains, magnets, or coasters with the guest of honor's name or the event date make for memorable keepsakes.
Themed Favors: For themed parties, choose favors that reflect the theme, such as mini beach balls for a pool party or small potted plants for a garden party.
Presentation of Party Favors
Favor Table: Set up a designated table for party favors near the entrance or exit so guests can easily pick one up as they leave.
Place Settings: Place a favor at each guest's seat as part of the table setting.
