Saw the post about how Yuki and Zuri bring out the best in Rouge and Tumble, and all I can think about is the song from Frozen's Fixer Upper ("People make bad choices when their mad or scared or stressed, bit throw a little over their way, and you'll bring out their best")
oh hell yeah, I can so see Amy being the one singing that part :3
ALSO YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW WELL THAT SONG FITS THEM, and if i could i would doodle the whole thing with the whole cast but i just did this

Have you seen Adrenaline Dubs's vids about the IDW comics? Their voices for Rough and Tumble are accurate and really good!
They've dubbed up to the end of the metal virus arc and they always put in music and voice effects, stuff's great, makes me cry every time!
Oh hell yeah, the example you sent is VERY close to what I imagined Rough and Tumble sounding like, tho I also imagined them having Brooklyn/New Yorker accents. "IM WALKIN' HERE" Is so something they would say.
This video here has some REALLY great suggestions to what some of the IDW characters could sound like. I love the Rough and Tumble ones but I also think Starline is SPOT ON. Clutch sounds a bit too young tho and some of the female voices could sound a tad bit more unique to one another, but its still great!

Seong Taehoon x Reader: A humbling punch to the face
G/N. Soft, lil silly. Masterlists
Tumblr media
You had always thought that Taehoon was someone who needed a good punch to the face.
Until you saw him sparring with his dad, and then you wondered if he was kicked too many times in the head growing up and that's why he is how he is.
Hansu denied this though, the one time you asked, chuckled then blamed Taehoon's mother for his disposition. Told you that's where he got his personality and attitude.
"Didn't you get into any trouble when you were younger, Mr. Seong?"
You didn't get an answer. Just a grimace before you were shooed away because Hansu suddenly remembered he had things to do.
You, however, have never been kicked in the face or been in a fight. You're not sure you would fare well, not that you're keen on finding out. And you would like to keep it that way too, despite the amount of times Taehoon threatens you.
"You want to die?"
"I'll kick your ass."
"Do you want me to beat you up?"
Occasionally, you would feel a bit too mouthy and delusional and respond with, "Yeah, what you gonna do?"
The few times you were really pissing him off, he had glared at you, muttering profanities under his breath and skulked off.
Usually though, you would receive a few harsh flicks to your forehead or cheek pulls for your trouble.
You could never defend yourself against Taehoon. There was no chance. You flailed and squirmed to no avail, and once Taehoon was sufficiently entertained with your antics, you might be rewarded with a kiss, accompanied by "dumbass".
In the better moments, the ones you think most fondly back on, he would pin you down, calling you a brat and leave you panting and breathless beneath him.
But his reality check comes not with a punch to the face, but when you're the one that flicks him harshly on the forehead.
An unexpected pain that causes Taehoon to flinch and spill his snacks all over your bedding.
"You need to look after yourself," you tell him, your worry and fears coming out short and angry.
First he was hospitalised due to Seongjun, and now because of Jinho. It's only been days since he's been discharged and you haven't left his side.
Taehoon sees the stress on your face, the bags under your eyes.
"Shut up," he tells you, dragging you close, trapping your body beneath his as he nips at your earlobes for your insolence.
With Taehoon, what you want, you always get. He’d hand you the world on a silver platter with only a minor grumble. And if you want him to be careful, for you, he will at least try.

Taehoon Seong proposing to you(-ish) Headcanons~
A/N: I love him so much I have a whole Pinterest board of him and an album on my phone and he's set as my wallpaper and AND ANDDD DMSBFIANNDANDJ. Pairing: Taehoon Seong x GN!reader Themes: Fluff, fluff, I love fluff. Marriage, proposal, fluffffff Grgrgrghhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-I have a feeling if he were to ever propose to you, instead of "Will you marry me?" He'll say "You will marry me."
-Like, bro already knows your answer anyway and wouldn't ask if he didn't think you'd agree.
-Pop the "question"? It's a demand.
-He'll be anything but romantic, but he means well. Do you really expect this nutjob to say a cheesy and heartfelt speech while clinging onto your hand while he kneels on the ground?
-If he did indeed pop the question, he'll still spare the sentiments or be completely awkward that he didn't say anything else afterwards.
-Then starts contemplating whether he should add more because you deserve better.
-But doesn't afterwards when he sees you're satisfied.
-Damn that look on your face tells him he's made the right decision.
-He'll just kiss you and do those touchy shit because physical touch is his love language anyway.
-He'll most definitely do it at the most unexpected times just to catch you off guard.
-Instead of going to romantic places or doing it on your anniversary, he'll do it when you're just chillin' or something.
-Either you just cuddling with him as he plays with your hair.
-Or playing Tekken, duh.
-Imagine him just opening the box and putting it near your face after you got mercilessly beaten up a round ago.
-If he wants to make it extra special, he'll probably propose in the dojo. XD
-Makes sure that Hansu isn't around though, otherwise it adds awkwardness.
-He will not propose when he thinks you don't want to.
-Discussed the idea of marriage at one point in your lives just so both of you would be comfortable.
-Married or not, he'll be fine with either.
-As long as you're with him in the end, that's all that matters.

How long has this been going on?
{Taehoon x Haesu}
Tumblr media
! If you're not interested in rarepair shipping content, you can scroll !
Details: scenarios of how the others would find out about their relationship. And I'm a little unsure on the timeline but whatever.
1. How Hobin finds out
As Hobin was walking with his girlfriend Bomi, he happened to take a glance at the window of a restaurant, and he was left confused at who he saw there. It was Taehoon with...Haesu? Didn't these two didn't like each other? What are they doing in a restaurant together? Those were Hobin's questions.
Hobin stopped for a bit in front of the window, and to more of his surprise Haesu had a small smile while looking at Taehoon. Something was wrong how are those two getting along?
"Bomi, wanna eat something at this restaurant?"
Hobin asked her, he needed to know what was happening there.
Bomi agreed, and so the two walk inside the restaurant. As they went for a table, Hobin first went to Haesu and Taehoon's table.
"What the hell are you doing with him!?"
Hobin said to Taehoon, as he points with both of his hands at Haesu.
Haesu then looked at Hobin, and he indifferently spoke
"Taehoon is just my meal buddy"
When Taehoon heard that he raised an eyebrow and frowns, was he just called 'meal buddy'
"Meal buddy? Is that what am I to you now? Not your boyfriend anymore!?"
Hobin only blinks in even more confusion over the two.
"Boyfriend? How long has this been going on?" Hobin asked them. Taehoon then realized what he just said out loud and his cheeks slightly rose.
"None of yer business..." Taehoon only says in response as he looks down at his food plate.
"Two weeks ago, he isn't actually my meal buddy." Haesu is the one who actually tells Hobin what Taehoon couldn't.
After that eventually the rest of the company finds out too. (Hobin wasn't able to keep it a secret for too long, and Taehoon wanted to almost kill him for that)
2. Yeo Rumi.
Taehoon was the third to date in their group (Hobin is second with Bomi)
And when Rumi finds out of their relationship, she would definitely want to make them guests for her shared newtube Chanel with Wangguk.
"Come on, it's gonna be fun!" Rumi tried to make Taehoon agree, but Taehoon only looked at her with an annoyed glare.
"Never in a million years am I agreeing to that bullcrap" Is what Taehoon told her in the face. Like Taehoon would ever agree when he finds couple channels cringe.
3. Hansu Seong, Taehoon's father.
It happened when Haesu first stayed over at Taehoon's house.
It's around the evening and Haesu was going to Taehoon's bathroom and before he went there he met eye to eye with Hansu, when he saw him he froze at his presence, because they never meet before.
"And who might you be? Hansu asked somewhat curiously as he also saw Haesu come out of Taehoon's room.
"I'm Taehoon's friend." Haesu answered, trying to be casual. Haesu was already feeling awkward over having to first meet his boyfriend's father like this.
"Looks like my son has made a lot of friends recently, I hope Taehoon treats you well"
"He does treat me well. You don't need to worry, mister"
Haesu puts on a smile to be friendly. After that they went with their own things.
Hansu only finds out Haesu isn't just a friend the next morning. When Taehoon comes in the kitchen to get something from the fridge while his dad was having his morning coffee, he looked up at Taehoon and sees a hickey on his neck, but he didn't dare to mention it to him as he knew he will find it very embarrassing if he did, so he only said "good morning" to Taehoon.
"Hm, not actually just friend..." Hansu states to himself after Taehoon leaves the kitchen.
《《《《《《《《《《《《《
Hope you like it! As always I'm happy if anyone reads this

I want to ask about the mountain girl au because it seems fascinating 🙋🏻‍♀️ since it was inspired by Pachinko, does this mean we get to see Hansu's personality in Eren as well? 👀
AAAAH I LOVE THIS ONE.
BTW let me be clear: I quite liked Hansu’s character, and while he’s done both good and bad things, I feel like the issue of grooming is often overlooked. Because of that, the answer is no, Eren will not be like Hansu. He’ll be entirely my own creation. I want to portray him as a genuinely good man, someone who has a past as a tough, rebellious guy but ultimately chose a better path and became a doctor.
Eren ends up going to the place where Mikasa lives, not out of selfish reasons but because he truly wants to make a difference. He also goes there to fulfill a request from his father to help the people in that area. His motives are selfless and grounded in his desire to do good. Later on, he will leave that place and aim to live in Switzerland, as the ongoing conflict between Marley and Paradis makes staying difficult.

Their Daughters - Part I
[a small series of drabbles I wrote about the Manager Kim - Park Jincheol - Hansu Seong trio and their kids' dynamics]
[Tahoon is female in this. It'll be about Hansu reflecting on how Taehyun is and have some spoilers from the latest chapters.]
Despite Taehyun being how she usually was, Seong Hansu had never truly been worried for his daughter. He'd never had to even consider that she could get hurt. After all, Seong Taehyun was his daughter and he'd taught her well.
Even if the two of them haven't realized it yet, Hansu thought fondly on his friends. Jincheol and Kim were absolute demons to fight against and most likely stronger than the 'pre-generation' that Kim's boss liked to harp on about - he would know, being one of those 'demons' himself.
However, when he'd announced his firstborn had arrived and that the name him and So-hyun ah had picked out was Taehyun, Jincheol had laughed boisterously at how Hansu was the only one out of the three of them to have a son, Hansu had decided it would be fun to keep it a secret.
Taehoon had also decided to keep it up solely because it was incredibly amusing for her.
So-hyun had only laughed at the two of them and Haru had joined his mom in laughing at his big sister and dad.
(Honestly, Hansu was impressed that they'd guessed that Haru was a girl. Haru hadn't minded it so much back then - he only seemed to get offended when others outside of their family misgendered him. However, with how Haru had seemed to act as of late, Hansu suspected his son was trying to figure himself out.)
As Hansu relaxed as he knocked on the door to the Park residency, he chuckled as Sohyun clicked her tongue and fixed his shirt.
"At least try to dress up more neatly - even Haru got dressed well."
"Hey!" his son disagreed. Haru fidgeted with his cropped shirt as leaned back on his heels. "I'm not that badly dressed. Besides - Taehyun isn't even here. Why are you getting on my case?" He grumbled the last part and Hansu sighed and shook his head.
"Your sister's busy right now - so she'll come later. She told me she'd come a bit later." Sohyun turned to him, a question in her eyes, but as the door opened, Hansu motioned that he'd answer her question of where their daughter was later.
(Thinking back on it, he really should have picked up the damned phone.
Son or daughter, it didn't matter - Taehyun had needed his help and he hadn't been there.)
However, all Hansu did was chuckle as little Dabn opened the door and slung an arm around Haru as the family entered, Mrs. Park grinning as she saw her old friend and greeted her, Hansu himself greeting Jincheol and ignoring the vibrating of his phone.
"Shouldn't you pick that up?" Jincheol questioned as Kim came along with Minji, the two of them staring at Haru showing off their capoeira progress to the other two. Hansu sighed and shrugged.
"It's Taehyun - she'll be fine." Jincheol chuckled at that as he put away the dishes and Kim nodded as he approached them.
"Jincheol is right. It's not like Taehyun doesnt know her way through a fight. Speaking of - she called me too," Kim frowned at that and Hansu felt a sense of dread settle on him.
His daughter had called Kim and--.
No. No. She'd be fin. He knew Taehyun. He knew just how strong his daughter was - he'd seen her comfort Haru every time that So-hyun had to leave for work and how she would always assume the responsibility that had fallen on her shoulders.
He remembered how she'd brokenly pieced herself together after Dowoon's death and how he hadn't seen her actual roots in so long.
He renenberd how she'd cried when she'd been reunited with the Taesan Head's twins - how Ravi and Hwa had held onto her as the three of them were on the way to becoming legends in their own right.
And it wasn't that Hansu didn't want to pamper her like he did Haru - it wasn't like he didn't think of Taehyun as his dear daughter - but seeing other girls with their fathers, it never fit for him. It really didn't
As the evening wen't on, dread began to build up in Hansu until finally, he took out his phone to check what had happened.
Hansu's blood ran cold as he took in the multitude of messages that he could see - not from Taehyun, but from Ravi and Hwa. One twin was panicking about Taehyun going undercover (undercover? Since when had Taehyun done that... He really hadn't seen much of her recently, had he?) and the other was angry at him because apparently Hobin and Taehyun were trying to get in contact with him.
There was also a call from the kid that Taehyun had taken under her wing. Seong Yohan, if Hansu remembered properly.
Groaning, he massaged his forehead and was about to call back on one of the missed calls as he heard from near the door,
"Taehyun-ie, I'm surprised you came. And you brought - friends." The way Mrs. Park's voice became stilted, Hansu could tell it was definitely someone Taehyun had either (a) befriended, (b) beat up, (c) done both to, or (d) decided she was a better guardian figure for as compared to their most likely trashy parents - or even all of them. That happened at times as well. Worriedly, he made his way to next to So-hyun, who only stared at their daughter in shock. Well, it was to be expected - the last time she'd seen Taehyun in person was her 12th birthday and the last time she'd seen her online was a few days before Dowoon's death.
Now, Taehyun stood at about a couple of centimeters taller than his wife - whose height was at 186 centimeters herself, so nothing to scoff at. Taehyun's - no, the jacket she'd probably borrowed from Ravi - hooded leather jacket was tied around around her waist. dressed in a half-sleeved white shirt and blue jeans, her musculature on display was easily close to - and maybe even more defined than - Mrs. Park's and So-hyun's.
Pairing all of that with the black nail polish and eyeliner she'd taken to wearing and Converses that seemed to pair with her newly cut hair (it was back to black again, Hansu noted albeit the light brown highlights Taehyun had kept) , she wouldn't have even looked that different.
No, what looked odd was the tattooed boy who came up to Hansu's height that looked at Taehyun with confusion in his eyes as he supported her subtly (if anyone recognized the supporting your injured, crazy friend who somehow could fake being fine very well, it would be him and Kim).
On the other side, stood Yohan, who wore that admittedly well-designed God Dog hoodie he'd made and bent down to take off his shoes. Behind the three of them was a relatively tall young woman who seemed to be around that Yoo Hobin's height with red lip gloss and a black wolf cut, dressed in a white hoodie and black cargo pants. Hansu ignored the hint of Yamazaki tattoos on her arms as he turned to Taehyun.
Hansu didn't notice how Yohan quickly loosened the laces on Tahyun's shoes, but he definitely noticed the slight wince she did as she made her way to the couch.
With a grin, Taehyun was about to greet them as she transferred the bags she held to another hand, saying,
"Sorry I'm late, Abba - there were some things I needed to take care of. I picked up Haru's capoiera uniform on the way and that cake you asked me to pick up and-." She froze as she looked down and met her mother's eyes - So-hyun ah frozen as she stared at her daughter.
Well, this really wasn't the way Hansu had planned on breaking the news, but -.
"Taehyun, your mom will be in Korea for a few months."

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....
Hey there! I'm sorry for taking so long to answer, I've been away and only checked Tumblr in a rush.
Actually, I haven't had asks for a long time so this is really nice, thank you for the question!
Gotta say my top changes depending on my current obsessions haha but once I fall in love with a character, they stay in my heart forever.
Here comes my top 10:
1. Chu Wanning from 2ha/Erha (The Husky and His White Cat Shizun). Where do I start with Chu Wanning? I was never able to properly express everything this man made me feel along the journey that 2ha was. He is, imo, what makes the story so lovable and memorable, so unique. Cold and aloof but at the same time gentle, kind and eternally selfless, Chu Wanning is a dream character that changes the way you perceive things.
2. Lan Wangji from Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed - Lan Wangji is my first danmei love and has a special place in my heart. The fact that Wang Yibo plays him in the drama can only make his character more special for me because even though I love him in the novel, I adore him in the drama! Yibo's charm is unparalleled.
3. Kagome Higurashi from Inuyasha - my childhood sweetheart! So brave, smart beautiful and kind (she is, in fact, way too good for Inuyasha, I've always said that... but it is what it is I guess). She deserves the world! Kagome is the one who helped Inuyasha grow into a real man, make friends and become more understanding with people around him. Props to the best girl ever!
4. Eiji Okumura from Banana Fish - the definition of an angel boy! Eiji is to me what he was to Ash in the anime: a balm for the soul. He soothes everyone around him and allows them to be themselves without restraints. I loved him since the first moment I saw him!
5. Sunja from Pachinko - a female character that stayed with me for a long time after finishing the book. Sunja fell in love with Hansu - a proud and rich man who already had a family of his own. She was left alone with a kid, struggled and raised her children by selling kimchi on the streets of Japan (Sunja had one more kid later on with another man, pastor Baek who did what Hansu never dared to - married Sunja and formed a family with her). Throughout her journey, she never gave up and sacrificed many things for her family. She is kind, fierce, brave and unwavering.
6. Hua Cheng/Xie Lian from Tian Guan Ci Fu/Heaven Official's Blessing - just can't choose between these two. They're amazing characters individually but together they're perfection! They're also my favourite danmei otp so far and I guess their obsession for each other only makes them more appealing. I adore how Hua Cheng respects Xie Lian's opinions and decisions even when he doesn't agree with them and how Xie Lian saw right through Hua Cheng and didn't misjudge him like everybody else. Once again: perfection!
7. L from Death Note - a favorite since childhood. Death Note has been incredibly dear to me ever since I was a little kid. I admired and was fascinated by L's intelligence and diligence, he was an unbothered king from beginning to end! His "fights" with Kira were legendary and made the story an unforgettable masterpiece.
8. Sam from Lord of the Rings - everybody loves Sam but let's be honest, who wouldn't be in love with such an outstanding character? I have to say Frodo is a close second fave from LOTR and now that I'm an adult and see things in a different light, I'm in love with Sam and Frodo's relationship. Who needs a spouse when you've got such homies? Lmao! They're both (along with the other members of the fellowship) the heroes of the story. Sam was especially dedicated and loyal and also said one of my favorite quotes of all time: "There's still some good in this world, Mr Frodo. And it's worth fighting for!"
9. Nana and Hachi from Nana - again, I can't choose between the two heroines of this iconic anime. They're strikingly different but compliment each other perfectly. And let's get real - their relationship was the best thing of the story. Sorry guys, but the girls got the upper hand in Nana! I loved Nana and Ren but unfortunately, their bond was very toxic whilst Nana and Hachi developed a healthy and happy relationship throughout the tale. Still bitter about the ending of Nana though...
10. Rukia Kuchiki from Bleach - another childhood sweetheart. Rukia made me watch Bleach and as a kid she was a role model for me. She's one of the best female characters ever created and I love her for being so brave, strong, witty, persistent and understanding. She's Ichigo's (the protagonist) pillar and strengthens him whenever he's down. As a young girl, I must say I shipped them together but nevertheless, I'm happy with how the story ended because Renji has always loved her (and protected her too, in his own way).

“you love me? are you sure?” (hansu + hakyeon)
* IDIOTS TO LOVERS ROMANTIC STARTERS
status: aceitando !
pairing: hansu + hakyeon !
Tumblr media Tumblr media

No, because Pachinko is a perfect example of how all book-to-screen adaptations should be like.
Yes, it’s important to stay loyal to the original source, but it’s also the producers’ jobs to improve or add their own touch to the story and maybe even filling some plotholes along the way.
Making Solomon one of the main characters straight from the beginning? Great choice. Because now we have a narrative to contrast to Sunja’s which helps emphasize the story’s message about the the struggles and sacrifices we go through for the sake of our families.
Hansu and Isak meeting face-to-face? It just makes sense. With the resources Hansu had on hand and how much he cared for Sunja, it’s only logical that he would have made the effort to speak directly to her new husband. I think we can all agree that the showdown between him and Isak at the shop was one of the more iconic moments of the show, and it gave us a great chance to see why Isak was such a better option for Sunja. Two men with such different values but are technically on the same side (both “fathers” of Sunja’s child and Koreans who have to survive living in a country where no one accepts them) made for such a great scene done better than the novel.
Bringing Sunja back to Korea? Brilliant. I personally always felt as though the book’s ending needed a lot more to say. Sunja finally going back to her homeland brings the story to a full circle. It shows that we all eventually go back to our roots and provides the audience a conclusion that we can understand. It also answers unanswered questions. Such as how she reunited with Bokhee in the show, while in the novel, it’s left to the reader’s imagination. Filling in the holes as you go makes it feel more complete. And the fact that she returns in order to spread Kyunghee’s ashes kind of makes Sunja’s return even more perfect. It’s unfortunate that they killed Kyunghee off, but also makes sense considering Kyunghee was nearly twenty years older than Sunja.
The singer from episode four? It didn’t make any difference to the plot at all but it was still so very welcomed since it gave us another view of the kind of oppression that Koreans had to face under Japanese rule. That no matter how successful they become, that difference in power is still evident, and you’re still essentially working for a system that takes advantage of your people. It makes a strong point especially since it was going back and forth between the contract signing, where Solomon begins to realize that his so-called beloved company may not appreciate him more than he thought. These original subplots like Haruki’s fate or Hansu’s recent death weave together what is a bigger story that goes farther beyond the Baek family.
Sure the show may have made some changes from the book, the biggest so far being Solomon’s job and life, which created a different kind of conflict than in the novel, but you could almost consider it a unique interpretation. It’s a different storyline but relays on the same themes about internalized racism and the struggles of second-generation immigrants just in a different way. Which is exactly how adaptions should be like. Viewers should be impressed by the quality in storytelling and be possibly inspired to read the book, and readers should be able to watch it and feel like they’re watching something familiar and yet fresh. The directors knew the best way to adjust the novel so it’d be more suitable as a show, and it worked. There was no shortcuts or copy and pasting done, just sincere effort to tell a story to reach bigger audiences and showing off your skill for entertainment.

2022 kdrama/movie roundup!
It was a tough year for keeping up with anything because life, toddler, etc, but here are the things I watched, in part or whole, that I remembered. Hot Takes Incoming!
Sell Your Haunted House - Jang Nara in boots. Kang Mal-geum in dark lipstick. Touching, gay, many mother issues. The girls were fantastic. The boys weren't bad.
25 21 - I was dropped back into the 90s. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. The girls were fantastic. Na Hee-do was correct to dump Baek Yi-jin. Moon Ji-woong, perfect boy. Ji Seung-wan for PRESIDENT!
Why Her? - Someone thought it'd be a great idea to throw Seo Hyun-jin's ex-client (shudder) current-student (TRIPLE SHUDDER) Hwang In-yeop into the romance mix when billionaire CHOI YOUNG-JOON and Crown Prince Bae In-hyuk were already there. And they thought it'd be funny if Hwang In-yeop won. NO.
Eve - The superior commentary this year on the horrors of capitalism. It ends with reparations (Park Byung-eun hands over his entire empire to Seo Yeji, who promptly divests it), rich people dying in horrible ways and Seo Yeji doing the tango. Were the makjang knobs dialled up so high they're broken? Yes. Was it fun? YES, because I got to see Park Byung-eun's range, which includes Pained Hottie, and Seo Yeji running men's feet over in cars wearing couture. We can ask for no more.
Juvenile Justice - No one asked "What happens if we take three of the most charismatic working actors in Korean entertainment today and squeezed the life out of them?" But someone answered anyway.
My Liberation Notes - Lee El, a revelation. Mr Gu, a revelation when he started talking, and not the good kind.
Grid - Kim Mu-yeol. Kim Ah-joong and Jang So-yeon had a great year. I didn't understand the time thing at all. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Bloody Heart - Jang Hyuk has done nothing wrong, ever. The girls were fantastic. Lee Joon, I heard your script was meant for Lee Joon-hyuk. Sorry.
Pachinko - The girls were fantastic. Kim Min-ha, baby, you're gorgeous. JUNG EUN-CHAE was everything. Sorry to Lee Min-ho, who had the tough double role of acting as Ko Hansu and also like he belonged to this cast of greats.
Our Blues - Great acting, but my own blues were sufficient for me. The girls were fantastic. Unwanted to wanted pregnancy storyline: no thanks. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 75% love; 25% NOT THIS AGAIN.
Little Women - The girls were fantastic. I ran out of air by this point in the year. I'll come back for you, gothic interior design, poison orchids, and Song Joong-ki in the best role he's played all year!
Through the Darkness - Almost too many twirling moustache psychos and dead girls. I did it for Kim Nam-gil because he's so pretty in this and in case it wasn't abundantly clear by now, I don't think with my brain. The lone living girl - Kim So-jin - was fantastic. Jin Seon-kyu, well-adjusted stealth hottie!
Reborn Rich - Samsung owes Lee Sung-min its entire semiconductor business as @rain-hat said. Lee Sung-min owes me reparations for making me watch this show for him primarily (secondarily Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Shin-rok, Park Ji-hyun and Kim Nam-hee for their acting; Kim Young-jae because he is THE DILF). I'm manifesting NO TIMESLIPS in 2023 dramas.
Under the Queen's Umbrella - Kim Hye-soo pushing up her hanbok sleeves to carry babies and do embroidery should be projected onto my tombstone unto eternity. The girls were fantastic. And I know this is unusual, so bear with me, but: the boys? FANTASTIC ALSO.
Movies:
Vikram - Fahaadh Faasil, my thoughts are nasty and you don't want to hear them. The girls might have been fantastic had they been permitted to live and not be dumdums. That was never going to happen, of course. There was torture and a baby in significant peril, but it was also the most fun I'd had in a while. I should get my head checked.
Ponniyin Selvan - The sheer scale of work and sweat that has gone into the enterprise of making Vikram seem taller than Trisha Krishnan for the last twenty years! Iconic. The girls were fantastic.
The Naked Kitchen - This is sold as a story of a woman choosing between two men. That is a lie. It's about a man coming to terms with his marriage drifting into polyamory, and enjoying it. Shin Min-ah and Ju Ji-hoon fuck in a museum, which was also weirdly sweet.
Asura City of Madness - AHJUSSHIS WHY. Hwang Jung-min's shirttails worked very hard in 2012. Jung Woo-sung ate glass and has pathological issues about being as handsome as he is. We love him for it. We did not love this.
Hunt - Love is your bestie learning how to write and direct just to write and direct you in the role of a lifetime for you, personally. I don't know if that's what happened here, but that's what love is. And chemistry is whatever these two guys have in this completely ordinary movie that did not give any feelings. Hwang Jung-min, pussy OUT.
Decision to Leave - A well-deserved love letter to Tang Wei, just beautifully shot, gorgeous.
Il Mare - Absolutely lovely little film, reliant almost entirely on the star power of two actors who are so charismatic they don't need to meet in the movie to convince you of their romance.
Laal Singh Chaddha - There was a very beautiful wedding at the end. Aamir Khan's face must hurt.
Darlings - A movie that appreciated and respected noted hottie Shefali Shah.

What are Yuki and Zuri's favorite music genres (pop, classical, rock, etc)?
What they're most familiar is folk music, and I imagined they even be able to play some folk instruments from their kingdom.
However, I do think once in the main/chaos dimension; Zuri would grow a love for music she can relax to. Mostly something she can have in the background when she is doing something or even sleeping, as white noise. Her youtube playlist would be full of those "relaxing music to play why studying" basically. Tho for meditation I imagined nature sounds are her favorite.
Yuki on the other hand I imagined would like just about anything with a catchy tune. She'd hum quite often and when she loses focus its most likely because that damn catchy tune in her head
She does end up enjoying Tumble's mixtape he made for her, even if the songs aren't quite catchy for her taste, its the thought that counts and its more than enough for her.

Pachinko Book vs Korean Drama
Tumblr media
I knew about the Korean Drama adaptation of this novel months before it aired on Apple TV. I was interested in seeing the series and when it aired, I watched it. The 8 episode long drama had documentary elements laced to the story that went back and forth from the past to the "present." The story begins in 1989 with Solomon working at a successful bank in the United States and going to Japan to work at a branch to increase his reputation to go back to New York to get the promotion he was being denied. He arrives to Japan and stays with his family and this is when we see his grandmother. Once she is in the picture, we start looking into her flashbacks. This story telling style chops a lot of the story and leaves the audience that haven't read the book hanging in the air - with too many unanswered questions. This is the main reason why I decided to read the book sooner rather than later.
In order to do justice to the novel, the series should have been longer. And I think it would have worked better if it had gone in chronological order because in order to tie the story of the grandmother to that of the grandson, they changed a lot of things. Kyunghee dies in the series but she didn't die in the novel. In the series they had never gone to Korea after the occupation was over, in the book Sunja did visit Korea a couple of times and so had Mosazu and Solomon. Her mother did move to Japan and in the series Sunja never saw her mother after moving with Isak to Japan. In the series they give a backstory to Hansu that we didn't have in the novel. We knew about the Hansu in his 30s, 40s, up to his 70s since he was an always present force in Sunja's life whether she liked it or not. . . Even Solomon's story was changed too.
The story is named Pachinko because that was the one job Koreans could have and prosper in Japan. Pachinko was also linked to the Korean mafia, so Koreans that ran Pachinko businesses were not seen as respectable. In the novel we can see how this business becomes part of the family life. How Noa tries to avoid it and how Mosazu embraces it in a way that he can maintain himself clean from the mafia. In the series we don't see this. In fact, in the series we hardly see Noa's and Mosazu's stories, their lives were important and directly connected to the title of the novel. The many questions I had were related to these two characters, Isak and Hansu. The novel answered my questions and gave me so much more.
Min Jin Lee's novel tells a compelling story while the series just hints at it in a poorly way. Even as a stand-alone series - even if it hadn't been based on a novel - the series had too many holes in the story, it left us with too many questions. The novel has an open ending, but that's life - it is ongoing - and even so, it felt like we had reached a full circle, we could guess what would happen next.
The series had great performances, but the adaptation could have been better.
I liked the series but the book is so much better.

Dear Hansu,
I just want to say that everyday I wake up in the morning and think about how much of an icon you are. Your Levi doll answering asks ideas? Iconic, Levi doll account? Fucking iconic and even when in the beginning of my rivamika career I was just finding out rivamika content, I heard these infamous words "After the War" - your story which is also fucking iconic, the way you write is fucking iconic. I wish there were better words to describe your✨ art ✨ but all I can think of is "iconic". Anyway, know that you deserve the entire world and all the love it has to offer. Stay safe and healthy, love you.😚
- sincerely, 🩰

Oh man... I’m so speechless, my brain won’t load but seeing this made me so so happy.
Calling me iconic is something I will take it from the heart. For me, I never saw any self-worth from myself... There are still times where I feel insecure when writing, times where I will rewrite an entire chapter all over and over again, and times where I doubt myself if I’m doing any good because most of the times... I never felt happy.
A million thanks to everyone’s love and support for Levi doll too. Until now, I never saw Levi doll as some sort of a toy... He is my valuable possession and he is very important to me just like a pet to a person, a child to a parent. Being alone has never felt so much lonesome and hard, isolated like the world had already turned its back on you and it was Levi doll who I found myself some plain reasons to be happy. I know it sounds crazy, but just think of me talking with Levi doll practicing all the lines I would put in After The War XD
What more else? I think I could never thank you enough... You and the whole RM fandom. My real life is plain bullshit and yet you guys managed to get me smile (It’s hard to smile when life gives you lemons) just by seeing every RM post in my TL. I still can’t believe that I can actually make people happy / satisfied so thank you very much from the bottom of my soul. You are such a kind awesome person.
Forgive me if I’m so talkative and if my grammar is talking drunk cuz I’m high as fuck XDDDD But thank you Ears / Shoe. So so much. I love you too, and I hope you’ll live your life awesome and happy. Please do know that I’m also here for everyone too! (:

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee begins, “History has failed us, but no matter.” It is on the opposite page from the first part’s epigraph: “Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than the magician ever spoke, or spirit answered to, in strongest conjuration" (Charles Dickens). And so, in an collective voice that will never return to the text, Lee tells us that home is powerful, only to prepare us to have history tear the word away.
This 479 page work of historical fiction tells the story of four generations of a Korean immigrant family that settles in Japan in the early 1900s. It begins with Sunja, a young girl in Yeongdo who gets pregnant after sleeping with Koh Hansu, who won’t marry her—but the honorable but sickly minister Baek Isak does, and he brings her to Japan. What follows is the struggle of a mother to feed and preserve her family, her sons, who grow to their own destinies. The novel is written in a somewhat halting but quick, engaging style, that keeps you moving rapidly through the years. Lee’s long flowing paragraphs followed by abrupt short stunners helps the twists of the novel pack quite a punch. By tracking the experience of Sunja’s family through the generations, Lee is able to examine the wide-ranging world of Korean immigrants in Japan from the 1900s to the 1980s—from the temptation to try and “pass” as Japanese to the bullying Korean children had to face in schools to the institutional and political challenges that Koreans had to overcome to succeed. Lee captures both the resignation and the rage that can rise from such a climate—both are encapsulated in Sunja, a mother who dedicates all she has to keeping her sons alive, a woman ready to survive but wishing to compromise as little as she can. I can see why this fantastic novel was Roxane Gay’s favorite of 2017 and a finalist for the National Book Award—I have not read such excellent historical fiction in a very long time, and it taught me much I didn’t know while enamoring me with its characters.

“When Isak proposes to me ‘Can you forget Hansu?’ but I couldn’t answer. I couldn’t spit out my lines. Tears just came out and I felt that, ‘How much she loves Hansu’ And that’s when I found out that her love towards Hansu is so deep.” -- Kim Minha 🔗 latimes.com/entertainment-… #leeminho #이민호 #李敏镐 #イミンホ #minoz #pachinko #파친코 #hansu #minhakim https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce7qwnWpkRN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
