Hello Imane! I hope you’re having a lovely Friday! I just wanted to say I’m doing my first solo trip to VN this Dec-Jan! Mostly just doing a northern loop, Hanoi-Sapa-Ninh Binh-Halong and haven’t figured out the rest yet but I’m so excited! Your travel posts helped push me to just do it plus the food and coconut and egg coffee and it’s just so beautiful there :-) I’d like to ask what were your top places to go there? Cafe/food recs in general and hm, curious if you have travel shoes you’d recommend! I’ll probably be packing light since I’ll be on my feet and transferring buses/trains a lot. Thanks!
omg i'm so happy for you!! the north is *chef's kiss* i loved it there. my number one and only tip is to not do an overnight cruse in ha long bay, it's not worth it for multiple reasons (price, and horror stories about roaches on boats included ajkdklfjg) but a day trip is definitely worth it. i stayed at the lavender central during my visit and it was a really good hotel location and price-point wise.
travel shoes: i swear by my new balance 530, super light and breathable while also staying comfy the whole day
here are a few recommendations for food and cafe in Hanoi:
Cafe Phố Cổ
Cafe Giảng
Bánh Mỳ 38 Đinh Liệt - Bánh Mỳ Phố Cổ (i was there literally every evening)
Pho 10 Ly Quoc Su
any cafe on that train track thing but check out the train timetable to make sure you don't miss it!
actually i pinned so many places but don't remember half of them and that's a real problem that i have because I'm a google maps fiend but depending on what neighbourhood you're in save this image and use it as reference alkjdflgk ps you may judge me... i judge myself

Direct transfer Halong Bay to Hanoi airport - Detailed guide and tips
Cruise Halong Bay - Planning to go directly from a Halong Bay cruise to Hanoi airport can be risky due to the following reasons:
Tumblr media
Travel Time and Traffic Uncertainty
The journey from Halong Bay to Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) typically takes 2.5 to 4 hours by car, depending on the starting point in Halong Bay and traffic conditions.
Hanoi traffic can be unpredictable, especially near the city and airport during peak hours or due to road construction.
Timing Constraints
Many Halong Bay cruises end around 11:00 AM. If you leave immediately after disembarking, you'll likely arrive at the airport in the afternoon.
Most international flights require you to be at the airport 3 hours before departure, and domestic flights require 1-2 hours.
A delay in disembarkation, bad weather, or traffic congestion could result in missed checkoin times.
Weather or Unforeseen Delays
Poor weather in Halong Bay can delay cruise operations.
Accidents or road conditions on the highway could also cause unexpected delays.
Tips to minimize risks:
Book an Early Transfer Arrange a private car or shuttle to pick you up immediately after your cruise. Private cars are faster than shared shuttles.
Allow Extra Time If possible, choose a late evening or night flight to give yourself a comfortable buffer.
Check the Cruise Timing Confirm the exact disembarkation time with your cruise operator and communicate your travel plans to them. Some cruises may assist with faster transfers.
Plan an overnight Stay in Hanoi If your flight is early the next morning, consider spending the night in Hanoi instead of risking a same-day transfer.
When is it Less Risky?
If your flight is late in the evening (e.g., after 8:00 PM).
If you have a private transfer preobooked and travel light (to speed up the transition). If your schedule is tight, it’s worth consulting with your cruise operator to confirm the logistics or exploring alternative plans to avoid stress.
Guide to taking a transfer from Halong to Noi Bai airport To travel from Halong to Noi Bai airport, you can choose the following means of transport:
Passenger car/limousine
Advantages: Convenient, comfortable, reasonable cost.
Travel time: About 2.5 o 4 hours, depending on the type of vehicle and traffic conditions.
Popular bus companies:
Luxury limousine: Companies such as Phuc Xuyen, Van Don Xanh, or Ha Long Travel Limousine. Ticket prices range from 220,000 - 400,000 VND/person.
Sleeper bus: Ticket prices range from 150,000 - 200,000 VND/person.
Book tickets: You can book through applications such as Vexere, Booking.com, or contact the bus company directly.
Taxi
Advantages: Private, comfortable travel, suitable for groups or those with a lot of luggage.
Cost: From 1,500,000 o 2,500,000 VND/trip, depending on the type of vehicle and travel time.
Book a car:
Reputable taxi companies such as Mai Linh, Thanh Hung, or Grap/BeCar.
Can be booked via phone application.
Shared car
Advantages: Cheaper than taxi, suitable for people traveling alone or with little luggage.
Cost: From 400,000 o 600,000 VND/person.
Contact: Usually through Facebook groups or car-sharing service providers.
Personal car/self-drive car rental
Advantages: Proactive schedule, comfortable stops.
Self-drive car rental cost: From 700,000 - 1,500,000 VND/day, excluding tolls and fuel. Note: You need a driver's license and book a car in advance to ensure availability.
Notes when traveling:
Departure time: To avoid missing your flight, plan to leave early (4 - 5 hours in advance for international flights, 3 - 4 hours in advance for domestic flights).
Choose a route: The Halong - Hanoi - Noi Bai Expressway route is the fastest (via the Ha Long - Hai Phong and Hanoi - Noi Bai Expressways).
Book tickets in advance: Especially during peak tourist seasons or holidays.
If you need more information about the bus company or book tickets, let me know so I can support you in detail!
