Abigail and Hannibal were always going to have the better relationship and by better I mean they’re on more even ground and truth and knowledge of one another. They spent a year and some change with one another, Abigail knows and develops a relationship with Hannibal.

But Will? To Abigail he’s almost like a ghost of a person, she sees him a few times then only by word of mouth and never really sees anything of him that is truthful because he was sick.

So when I go to write fics it’s extremely important to me that even if it’s a Mizumono fix it there is still a lot of work to be done on the side of Abigail and Will’s relationship. Especially when her loyalties lie with Hannibal even if they’re shakey. Because Will has to shake not only GJH perception but his own obscured perception of who Abigail is in his mind.

I think most if not all my problems would be resolved if someone was to hold me like this

sometimes I think about Hannibal and Abigail’s relationship and I think about the fact that he didn’t kill her to frame Will. it would’ve been pretty easy. he’s a capable killer and what’s more damning than a dead body? but he didn’t kill her. and he didn’t store her away somewhere like he did with Miriam.

he kept her secret, made sure she was well taken care of. when we see her for the first time (when Alana sees her), she’s clearly not locked away. she’s not restricted in movement or to a specific room. she doesn’t look dirty or injured beyond having lost an ear. she had new clothes and everything. which can only mean Hannibal went out of his way to get those things for her, and he did them discretely enough that no one noticed.

I’ve seen discourse about whether or not Hannibal cared for her. but why do all that, why go through all that trouble if he didn’t care about her? why bother?

he didn’t use her to lure Will to go with him. he didn’t kill her. he didn’t leave her to be arrested for the FBI. and when he killed her? why kill her like *that* if he didn’t see himself as her father? there were a lot of other ways he could have killed her. he could have taken her with him and killed her afterwards, could have made her into one of his masterpieces.

ultimately, I wish we saw more of Hannibal’s relationship with Abigail. but I really do think that he loved her. I think all the little glimpses that we got showed that. and I think that if he didn’t love her, we’d have seen real evidence of that. we’d have seen him brainwash her or something. it was more effort and more work to keep her alive and well in that house than it would’ve been to kill her.

OKAY THATS ALL FOR NOW. Abigail is one of my favorite characters ever and I think her complexity should be observed more. She was a survivor and perceived in the light of those around her and never as she truly was and I mourn her daily. I think about how she deserved to go to school abroad and never want for anything but in the end was a playing pawn in a game between two men who were themselves too terrified and confused to make sense of each other much less her as an independent.
