Chapter 11

The teasing from Monica and Hannah eventually settled down, though they shot Cassie and Drew knowing looks every so often. Cassie did her best to play it cool, sipping her drink and pretending the kiss on her neck hadn't completely flustered her. 

Drew, on the other hand, seemed utterly at ease. He charmed Monica and Hannah with his stories from set, laughing at Monica's over the top reactions and even sharing a few funny behind the scenes moments with Cassie from the Outer Banks shoot. 

Cassie couldn't help but feel a tug of admiration for how effortlessly Drew fit into her world. It was easy, natural, like he'd been part of her circle for years. 

As the night wound down, the group decided to call it. Monica and Hannah were already planning their next outing, but Cassie had hit her socializing limit. 

"Alright, grandma," Monica teased, slinging her arm around Cassie as they walked toward the bar's exit. "You're free to go to bed now. But seriously, Drew, you're welcome anytime." 

"Thanks for letting me crash your night," Drew said with a grin. 

Monica gave him a cheeky wink before turning back to Cassie. "You're gonna text us later, right? Tell us everything?" 

"Goodnight, Monica," Cassie said, ignoring the comment as her friend waved and disappeared into the crowd with Hannah.

Once it was just the two of them, Drew shoved his hands into his jacket pockets and looked at Cassie with a small smile. "You good?" 

"Yeah," she said, nodding. "Thanks for coming out. I didn't expect you to actually say yes." 

"Why wouldn't I? You're fun to be around, Cass," Drew said, his tone genuine. "Your friends are, too. But honestly, I came for you." 

Cassie's heart did a little flip, and she quickly looked away, pretending to adjust her bag. "Well, it was nice to hang out without it being, like, work related or...I don't know." 

"Yeah," Drew agreed, stepping closer. "And for the record, about earlier. I do like you too." 

Cassie froze, her pulse racing. Drew didn't seem fazed at all, he just waited for her response, his gaze steady. 

"I..." she started, but she wasn't sure what to say. 

Sensing her hesitation, Drew chuckled softly and took a step back. "It's late. Let's get you home before your grandma instincts kick in completely." 

Cassie let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding, grateful for his playful tone breaking the tension.

They walked in comfortable silence for a few blocks, the quiet of the city night settling around them. Cassie kept stealing glances at Drew, her mind spinning with everything he'd said tonight. 

When they reached her building, Drew hesitated at the front steps. 

"Thanks for tonight," he said, his voice softer now. 

"You're thanking me?" Cassie asked with a laugh. "You're the one who made my friends night." 

Drew shrugged. "Maybe, but I had fun because of you." 

Cassie's cheeks warmed, and for a moment, she thought he might kiss her. Instead, he smiled and stepped back. "Get some sleep, Yeager. And maybe finish the show before I see you again." 

"Noted," she said with a smirk, unlocking the door. "Goodnight, Drew." 

"Night, Cass." 

She closed the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment. Her head was spinning, not just from the alcohol but from everything Drew had said and done.  ⊹₊⟡⋆

Once she'd changed into pajamas and crawled into bed, her phone buzzed with a new message. 

Drew: "I meant what I said tonight. Just so you know."

Cassie stared at the screen, her heart racing again. 

Cassie: "I know. Goodnight, Drew."

He didn't reply, but Cassie didn't mind. She turned off her phone and pulled the covers over her head, a small smile playing on her lips as she drifted to sleep.

Cassie woke up later than usual, sunlight streaming through her blinds. Her head pounded lightly, the remnants of last night's drinks still lingering. She groaned and rolled over, burying her face in the pillow, but flashes of the night before, Drew's touch on her waist, his kiss on her neck, the text he'd sent before bed, pulled her into full consciousness.

After a long sigh, she sat up, grabbed her phone, and checked her notifications. A few texts from Monica and Hannah filled the screen, along with some random social media alerts. She couldn't help but smile when she saw their group chat.

Monica: "Girl. You danced with Drew Starkey. DREW. STARKEY."

Hannah: "Please tell me you're seeing him again. Because I will personally riot if you don't."

Cassie rolled her eyes and quickly typed a reply:

"Can you two relax? Nothing's happening. We're just friends."

She didn't have the energy to engage further, so she tossed her phone aside and got out of bed.

After a quick shower and a cup of coffee, Cassie decided some fresh air might help shake off her grogginess. She threw on leggings, a hoodie, and sneakers, grabbed her headphones, and headed out for a walk.

The crisp morning air did wonders for her mood as she strolled through her neighborhood, her playlist providing the perfect soundtrack to clear her head. She couldn't stop herself from thinking about Drew, how comfortable he made her feel, how his presence seemed to ease every awkward moment.

By the time she returned home, a light sheen of sweat on her forehead, she felt better, though no less conflicted. ⊹₊⟡⋆

After making a quick breakfast, Cassie settled in at her desk to check emails and finish some work she'd been putting off. Among the usual casting updates and industry newsletters, one email caught her eye.

Subject: Wardrobe Fitting Scheduled

Cassie clicked on it, and her heart jumped when she read the details: Her fitting for Dune: Part Two was confirmed for next week.

"Okay," she muttered to herself, leaning back in her chair. "This is good. Stay focused."

She spent the next hour cleaning up her inbox and organizing her schedule, but Drew remained in the back of her mind.

Finally, she caved.

Cassie: "Okay, so...how about 5 PM tomorrow for coffee? My usual spot?"

She sent the message before she could overthink it. Drew's reply came almost instantly.

Cassie smiled to herself, setting her phone down. She still wasn't sure what exactly was happening between them, but part of her was excited to find out. ⊹₊⟡⋆

By the evening, Cassie had wrapped up her work and planned a low key night in. But as she scrolled through Instagram, she saw a new story notification from Drew.

She hesitated for a second before tapping on it.

It was a candid photo from the rooftop bar the night before, a shot of the city skyline lit up at night. The caption was simple:

"Good company makes all the differences."

Cassie's stomach flipped as she realized the timing wasn't a coincidence. She debated replying but decided against it. Instead, she took a deep breath and reminded herself to take things one step at a time.

Tomorrow's coffee date loomed in her mind. It wasn't just another casual hangout, she knew that much now.
